Mizus Gender

I know the writers of the show wrote blue eye samurai with Mizu as a woman disguised as a man in a way similar ish to Mulan but uh

They accidentally made it deeper than that ??

If you removed like 2 lines of dialogue in episode 5 you could even make an argument for trans masc Mizu. Or at the least gender queer.

Being transgender is not a concept in this time period. But trust. People have always wanted to be other genders, probably for the entirety of human history. And how someone would go about being trans in a world with no true understanding of the concept, might be similar to what Mizu IS DOING RIGHT NOW.

Living as a man. PERMANENTLY. Not temporarily to achieve some near goal like Mulan and the many other stories with this concept. Mizu has lived as a man nearly their entire life and no intention to ever live as a woman in the future.

Mizu admires their freshly binded chest in the mirror as a teen.

When alone Mizu refers to himself as a man.

When alone with Ringo, (someone who knows the secret) Ringo also refers to Mizu as a man.

Mizu threatens to straight kill Ringo at the the very use of the word “girl”.

When, and ONLY when seeing 2 MEN kiss does he think of Taigen.

Not to mention madame Kajis indelicate insinuation of gay sex to Mizu, something I believe wasn’t for no reason. OR Madams iconic line “you are more man than ANY come through my door” (I’m convinced she has an idea of Mizus true sex but doesn’t care to accuse or call them out for it)

They HAD lived as a woman in the past. Only for about a year, and they did it to get married for her mothers sake. To save her from a life of prostitution. She was able to be happy, because it IS POSSIBLE to be happy while not presenting how you like. It’s a strain and some can never be happy doing so but it’s possible and people do it all the time to make their lives easier or to keep the peace with family or for many other reasons.

Episode 5 gave HUGE VIBES of going back into the closet when living with your parents or just visiting. And Mizu looked SO uncomfortable and awkward in woman’s clothing and doing “wife things” (partly cause they have never done that before) and maybe it was my own projecting but I felt so uncomfortable FOR Mizu.

These things don’t necessarily mean being a transgender man specifically. Gender is actually really complicated and has ALOT to do with what society deems it.

Mizu is a masculine person. Being what Japan wants women to be isn’t in line with what Mizu is. A violent, practical, stoic, cold, masculine, confident and capable warrior.

dressing up as a woman with the makeup ONLY to try and make her husband happy. She didn’t WANT to. “To soften her husbands heart, the bride… danced” performed femininity FOR HIM. Only for Mikio to betray her for, in his eyes, being more masculine than him, by beating him in a physical fight.

Mizu is both the ronin and the bride. Mizu will be whatever they need to in order to achieve their owed deaths. They HAVE to be a man to get their revenge but that doesn’t mean Mizu WANTS to be a woman. (To be fair who WOULD in that time but I digress) and it doesn’t mean they WANT to be a man. They WANT their revenge. Everything is secondary to that.

Mizu is so different from other characters…

I grew up in a kinda misogynistic place and my mom really didn’t let me “do boy stuff” or dress masculine in any sense until my late teens. I my self don’t know if I can even call myself Trans. But I’m masculine, I like looking like a man and dressing as one but I don’t WANT to be a man necessarily. But I don’t WANT to be a woman. I feel like we as a society put to much distinction between the two and the people who don’t fit either side get left out at times.

Mizu is such a relatable character to me, like no other characters complicated feelings about their own sex and gender have ever come close.

They are for those who don’t have a strong sense of their own gender. Especially those who are biologically female and hesitant to lean into their sex because of the societal baggage.

Once people realize that how you dress, how you act, and what you do in reality have nothing to do with your bio sex and everything with what society has forced people to do based on factors out of our control is the day we can finally stop having these conversations.

Do what you want, gender is fake.

I reblog so much of Aphblr, I felt the need to share this headcanon of mine (or well, my personal take on Travis from Phoenix Drop High.)

At one point, I had "remade" the characters. Kind of like, reassigning them vibes. Nothing major. It was something I kept in my head or made (Pinterest) boards, and this one document for.

And during these, I headcanoned Travis as trans. Specifically; ftm. I had looked at his wiki, discovered he 'apparently' was originally going to be a girl, and it stuck.

He quickly became my favorite character in my little imagined 'rewrite' besides Aaron and Aphmau. (They were all weird high schoolers being edgy, but mostly themselves, and Aaron and Aphmau resonated the most.)

However, I'd constantly get these imagined thoughts of a nervous Travis experiencing dysphoria, struggling to make friends because he -- didn't want someone to mistake him as a girl. He wanted friends that he felt safe with, that treated him properly, when he was still adjusting.

My idea was, his father was accepting, but they had a deal for him not to transition until he was eighteen. So, he was extremely pre-T and very feminine/flamboyant despite his attempts to man up (under Dante's influence and the gentle pushes from Aphmau.)

I imagined him finding out Katelyn is bisexual, and feeling like he might have a chance with her. But also having an extreme anxiousness that she wouldn't see him as a man, considering she is attracted to women.

I can imagine him not knowing how to tie a tie, and it still being awkward for him to ask his father -- so he asks Dante. Dante takes him under his wing, and it establishes their close relationship and why Travis picks up so much from him. (Although, in this remake, it was Aphmau that helped Travis be more confident around people.)

I imagined Travis using the staff bathrooms to change, and only telling a select few people. Though, he often finds himself mistaken for a girl anyway.

I never decided what his "dead name" would be, in this headcanoned universe of mine because -- it didn't matter? Travis is Travis.

I imagined the moment he opened up to Dante, Aphmau, and a few other friends about his dysphoria and what he struggles with -- really strengthened their bonds.

I'd probably use this as an excuse for him to grow closer to Katelyn due to her acceptance, even if a relationship between them wouldn't work. (Right people, wrong time, for them in high school. But also, all these characters deserved to go out with people, date different people, before settling on each other for life. But, that's not a major fault, it's just something I'd like.)

I don't know, all these posts on here about people's rewrites really brings me joy, and -- allows me to think of my own that I never committed to. Of course, I am working on a world similar to MCD and Mystreet right now, but it is not a rewrite. It's something I did to appreciate the kind of fantasy MCD showed, with some tastes and twists of my own.

...Maybe I'll share the characters from it, one day. :)

Although, more on Travis. This headcanoned version of him was a major Kirby fan. He would often read the fan fiction Aphmau wrote, and get flustered by some of risque themes she would add. And Aphmau would just wiggle her eye brows at him, and they'd both crack up.

(As, this version of PDH Aphmau is a content creator in universe, and a lot less... Innocent? More well-rounded with hobbies and style. She's one of those, 'my mom would kill me if she found out I put make up on at school,' kind of kiddos.)

like what's the vibe of their dynamic after all that? how does it change over time?

Their relationship is…complicated.

They both just got out of a situation that was toxic and pretty fucked up, to say the least.

Hunter was controlled, used like a tool, changed physically and mentally against his will, and his brother wasn’t the one making the call to do that, but he was enforcing it. He fully believed he couldn’t trust or talk genuinely to anyone around him, because one of those people was Gaster and the other acted like he was on his side but then turned around and heeled whenever Gaster whistled.

Vi was controlled too, but it was made invisible, he couldn’t talk about it and he had to act like he was broken in to Gaster’s will while fighting the temptation to do just that, to give up. He was constantly stuck between a rock and a hard place—Gaster’s orders and seemingly 24/7 surveillance and Hunter’s defiance and open scorn of his actions.

They both hurt each other, failed each other in different ways.

Vi didn’t protect Hunter from Gaster and he kept too many secrets to be someone Hunter could trust.

Hunter gave Vi no grace or benefit of the doubt and often put him in hard situations where he would either catch hell from Gaster, Hunter, or both no matter what he did.

They were both severely isolated and learned intimately what it was like to have their free will taken away from them.

So…they’re cagey with each other, after it all.

Wary.

Awkward.

Hunter knows now that Vi was just as leashed as he was, and Vi no longer has the axe hanging over his head for if he slips up, no one for either of them to answer to…

But there’s still a lot of ingrained patterns to undo, ways of thinking to unlearn.

When they have a common goal, they still work together like a well-oiled machine, ruthlessly efficient and totally unhesitating, but in the downtime they still stumble—and there’s a lot more downtime these days than there used to be, now that they’re cut loose.

They’re still figuring out how they work without Gaster in between them to make it hostile, learning to trust each other and be more open, but it’s not something either has any practice with so they do mess up.

Vi tries to assume too much control of what Hunter is doing and has to intentionally back off, Hunter blows Vi off when he means well and realizes later he probably shouldn’t have, but…y’know, the rest of the time, they’re…pretty okay?

They can talk to each other and joke and be, what seems to be, brothers, moments that used to be interrupted by Gaster intervening, or the stain of him felt even when he wasn’t there.

Sometimes even now the ghost of him will do that, making moments feel awkward and uncomfortable when they remember what things used to be like, what he would’ve said in that situation…but that’s fading with time.

Some of the best bonding they manage to do is in the process of delinquent type shit—they both like getting into places they probably shouldn’t be and picking locks, parkouring up to drop a fire escape ladder, or helping each other over barbed wire fences is an easy way to feel in-sync and get somewhere quiet where they won’t be interrupted.

They can’t talk about what happened to them, not and look each other in the eye-socket, so when they do end up actually talking about the tough stuff, it’s usually on a roof somewhere—one will go up and sit down and start thinking deep thoughts, and the other will eventually come join him and sit back-to-back until the words come out. They don’t always, sometimes there’s just silence, but…even that helps, a little.

It's a work-in-progress, those two, and it's not always easy but they’re trying.

Hello there, Anon! I'm happy to hear that you like my posts :) And thank you so much for asking; as it happens, I do know about the songs. Though if I'm being honest, the only one I listen to semi-regularly is Tanizaki's "Bewitching Screens" (usually when I'm roleplaying/writing fanfiction with him and need the inspiration).

I do have some thoughts, though I think the reason I never posted anything about the song is because I feel like the lyrics are kind of self-explanatory anyhow, but they do reinforce my interpretation/meta of Tanizaki.

Rambles under the cut :)

His song has a very low key, chill vibe, but only at first. It goes from carefree and casual, to something with a darker, more aggressive undertone, then finally, the ending, (which I will touch on later in this post). It's representative of who Tanizaki is as a character-- the deceptive "softboy" energy he has normally, which belies his proclivity towards violence and darker psyche.

Also, it's worth noting that the lyrics kinda just come out and confirm that Tanizaki has "secrets [he doesn't] want to tell anyone", particularly in regards to "[his] existence". The song is essentially him singing about himself, repeating the usual narrative:

Maybe that’s why miscellaneous odd jobs is sort of my specialty My social status is so-so Even getting carried away is fine,

My redeeming quality is probably my diligence I don’t even want to shed blood As far as myself is concerned

But these verses always end on a darker note:

But there is only one thing I cannot forgive

But don’t cross over the forbidden territory.

Of course, I think the other reason why I never really talked much about the character songs is because I wasn't sure how much of an input Asagiri actually had in their lyrics/composition. Like sure, there's definitely some reading between the lines to be done, but at the end of the day, I felt like it didn't really tell me anything new about Tanizaki, it's just a song about what can already be deduced based on his actions in the series.

BUT! One thing I always found interesting was that his character song ends with "Sayonara" (goodbye), WHICH could be interpreted as just a melodramatic thing thrown in there for the aesthetic, but… I guess it wouldn't be me if I didn't read too deeply into things that probably aren't that deep. I do recall reading a comment once (which I cannot find atm, if you think you're the person who originally made this connection then lmk and I'll mention you if you want) that Dazai and Tanizaki's character songs both end on the "goodbye", though now that I'm actually looking into it, it's completely different, because Dazai says "goodbye" in English (a.k.a. its another "Guddo Bai" reference, which is a completely different meta that I'm certain someone else has already written)

The thing is that there's multiple different ways to say "bye" in Japanese, and "sayonara" has a certain sentimental connotation, therefore, its really awkward and a dead giveaway that you're not a native speaker if you use it in casual conversation. The correct way to say 'goodbye' to a friend would be some variant of "Jaa mata ne" (see you later then), though notably this is pretty informal and should not be used with a coworker or teacher or senior-- but I digress! The point is that "sayonara" has the implication that you may not see the other party for a long time, possibly forever.

Okay the other element here is that, assumably, he's singing to Naomi, due to this verse:

I want to protect you (I want to be here) I want to protect you (I cannot forgive this) I want to protect (the incorruptible) everything “you” are –

Which, combined with the "sayonara", really kinda makes me wonder. I think the easy interpretation to get out of this is further reinforcement of the "Naomi is actually an ability construct and her real self died in Middle School" theory, which is valid, but also, consider that the rest of the song is about who Tanizaki is. In the chorus, he asks the listener:

Slowly…look, at the illusionary screen Tell me, what do you see?

To me, it sounds like Tanizaki is asking "do you see the real me, hidden behind this facade of ordinariness?". And when he wants "to protect the incorruptible"-- he doesn't want "you" (Naomi?) to know about this darker side to him. Again, that's just what I'm getting from the song lyrics, which weren't necessarily written with Asagiri's manga canon in mind (still unsure?). But, this interpretation is supported by the fact that Tanizaki only ever snaps when Naomi is in danger, therefore unconscious, and ignorant to Tanizaki's actions following her being harmed.

Personally, I think it's a disservice to Naomi's character to think she's completely unaware of Tanizaki's darker psyche, the side of him who would literally burn the world down if it meant keeping Naomi safe, but… BSD never claimed to write women with agency :,) On the other hand, as much as Naomi acts airheaded and oblivious, we also frequently see a much more perceptive side of her, usually, when Tanizaki isn't in the picture. It's canonically stated that Naomi is, in fact, smarter and more observant than her brother, but, just like Tanizaki, this "hidden" side of her only emerges when Tanizaki isn't around to witness it.

Anyway, that was kind of off topic from the character song, but what I was getting at was that the "sayonara" means that Tanizaki has revealed his "true self" to "you"/Naomi, therefore, he's saying farewell to the peaceful illusion he had built between them— of himself, as just a "normal guy", and of their relationship, just an innocent sibling pair that used to be high-schoolers.

Hopefully my rambles satisfied your curiosity, Anon! It's a good song, and it's pretty validating for my headcanons/metas.

Totally with you on a) the defintion of shipping and b) that it would not be narratively satisfying to have the show go in the Will and Mike get together direction, for all the reasons you listed.

The dialogue around it also makes it nearly impossible to find meta or even just discussions around Mike that don't centre the possibility of a romantic relations with Will and it's so frustrating. I love that little guy and I just want to talk about how much he loves his friends!

But then the first thing I created for this fandom was a byler breakup fic so... I'm probably not in the majority.

Ah thank you! Yeah. The series is grounded in the friendship the party has. That's the first thing we learn about them. It feels insulting to both the characters and anyone who likes the non romantic aspects of relationships when people insinuate that Will couldn't have a happy ending without dating Mike. (Mike doesn't owe Will a romantic relationship. Will doesn't owe Mike one!! It also feels insulting that people say there's going to be a time skip and I guess Will is still pining for him? Let him let go at that point Sheesh.).

The basis of any romantic relationship, especially in canon, between Will and Mike (or any party members) is a deep and strong friendship. Acting like those aren't as important is so rude to people and mischaracterizes them. Mike Wheeler loves his friends so much he would jump off a cliff for any of them. He would deny their death with the barest shred of illogical proof even when presented with a body. He would try to contact a girl for almost a year to see if she was still alive. He holds his friend's hand when it seems he's fading away, insists on going into danger to help with a distraction, and apologizes better to a friend than his girlfriend. He's a moody, angsty teenager, going through a lot of emotions and confusion, and can be an asshole even to his friends, but my god what are you doing if you deny Mike's platonic relationships mean everything to him.

It's also disregarding Will's relationships too! Like. El is his sister now!! You cannot separate that. Would Will want to date Mike even? Loving and wanting to date are different. Dating a sister's ex? Legit so many arguments are just saying El doesn't love Mike, and I guess implying she wouldn't give a shit if Mike stsrted dating a friend that became a brother who is also the only one as deeply connected to the Upside Down as her. It gives me the vibes of people like...taking away the agency El has in her own feelings and saying she loves Mike.

Maybe he just wants to be able to honest about his feelings. Get them off his chest. Keep his friendship with Mike but have everything out in the open, and they can work through that together. Strengthen their friendship and maybe be open to potentially dating in the future (there is an apocalypse on!) while also strengthening their friendship with El. So many people just. Ignore her and her feelings in all this, as though both Will and Mike have not showed they valued her feelings greatly. Why would that not factor in at all? Why would Will put his sister into that position? Would it not be awkward for Mike too?

That's why it wouldnt be satisfactorily executed in S5. The characters and the audience need time to process any breakup between El and Mike. Let them cool off and us register it. Another anon said if they were going blr canon route they should have ended mlvn in S4, and I agree. It needs Breathing room. Not just them breaking up and a two year time skip where we're told time has passed but for us it feels like nothing, so the impact isn't the same and it doesn't have the same satisfaction of knowing they've worked it out but just being told about it. If that makes sense?

Plus the series has struggled with ending romo relationships, and the only one starting that wasn't awkward or weird (Both Nancy and Jon AND Joyce and Hop have Murray be the catalyst which annoying and kinda lazy, not to mention the cheating) was Lucas and Max. That doesn't paint a picture of confidence in me. Sometimes a ship going canon is not actually good. Sometimes in fandom you are actually thankful a ship that honestly should have been canon by the end, or at least post-series didn't, because whatever the show runners would have done with it would have probably ruined whatever dynamic that made them compelling in the first place. it may feel like a betrayal or rip off at first, and would likely continue to, but with time comes a feeling of oh. Maybe it's better this way... Would come.

So yes. Seeing how people reacted to me simply saying that, by the end of the series, I don't think it could satisfyingly become canon, while prioritizing their relationships with each other, Not a lot of nuance is allowed, it seems. Though I'm sure many shippers are cool and chill, it's really just a few people who are loud about it that try to inhibit discussion or meta, it's a damn shame that the only discussion allowed to those shippers is when or how it will be canon. Where's the fun in that? Everyone can interact with fandom differently, and it's a shame some folks want to dictate how others do so.

Thoughts on Olivine and his relationships with the other clan? Shipping or platonic wise?

Aster: We don't see them interacting much (I think? there's a lot of events I haven't seen) but they seem to get along well. In Silver Miracle Aster drags Olivine away from the creamy hot pot to a different one, so they're on good enough terms for that to happen. Friendly but nothing special seems to be the vibe.

Morvay: I absolutely think they're BFFs. There's something very sweet about a priest and an incubus being the best of friends, and honestly they're about the same level of horny. They go to 'medicinal herb' (aphrodisiac) shops together and probably swap book recommendations.

Ship-wise: definitely friendship only and zero romance. I think they're prooobably not sexually compatible, unless it's a threesome and they're sandwiching one top between them. They both crave cock in them too much.

Yakumo: They're very very sweet and uncomplicated (or, well, they were uncomplicated until CoD. let's ignore that for a sec.) Olivine's gentle demeanour gets on very well with Yakumo's nervousness. Their dynamic is such that they don't challenge each other or push each other out of their respective comfort zones, and sometimes, that's exactly what you need in a relationship.

CoD complicates this. They both had protective/self-sacrificial streaks to begin with, and now they both feel guilty about what went down with the cult. Let's be honest, the game probably won't touch on this, but there really should be some complicated emotions between them.

Ship-wise: they're not the whirlwind romance Hallmark movie type, but they're the cute domestic type where they go shopping and then make dinner together. Also the sex is fantastic because Yakumo can be overwhelming and Olivine loves being overwhelmed.

Edmond: They're friendly, but earlier on in the event timeline, I also got the sense that out of all the clan members, Edmond is the one that places the most importance on Olivine's priesthood. That's a point of conflict, because Olivine's whole deal is learning to be An Actual Person outside of his job. As long as Edmond sees him as Father Olivine The Priest and not just Olivine, there's going to be some amount of distance between them.

I think they must have figured this out offscreen at some point, because in CoD Edmond drops the 'Father' title and just calls Olivine by name. So there's an unspecified stretch of time where they have the awkwardness I talk about above, but where we currently are in the event timeline, I think they're good friends. There's interesting places to explore in regards to how they both feel bound by duty and both (used to) struggle with feeling ashamed for having sexual desires.

Ship-wise: I've talked about olimond a lot these past few days. I still love the idea of them having the most chaste regency romance slowburn. Sexually, Edmond might be the only man Olivine will be a Dom(ish) top for, but Eiden has to get them started because Olivine doesn't know what to make of Edmond's CNC thing.

Quincy: Also very uncomplicated. Quincy likes that he's quiet and polite, and Olivine just generally likes people. They simply get along well.

Ship-wise: I'll be honest, I don't find romantic quinoli to be that much better than other romantic Olivine/clan member ships, at least when it comes to canon and canon-adjacent settings. They're sweet, but there's not a huge amount of depth to their dynamic. AUs are different because you can change up their circumstances to add that depth; AU romantic quinoli has the capacity to be super good. See: Pages and Priests by Zerenovation.

Regardless of whether they're romantically involved, the sex is really hot. Quincy is very straightforwardly, physically dominant and Olivine would love being manhandled. If you've ever peeped my ao3 profile you'll know I'm unfortunately an omegaverse enjoyer and these two would be the quintessential alpha/omega pair. (Quincy putting Olivine in a mating press... now there's a thought.)

Kuya: Oh Boy. tl;dr - the most complicated Olivine-clan relationship by far, which makes it very interesting.

Here's the kuyoli tag on my blog. I think requiodile says it better than I can, but to paraphrase my favourite parts: they're uniquely positioned to challenge one another in ways that they just don't get from anyone else.

They both have a thing about being seen for their station (priest/powerful yokai) before they're seen for themselves, and they both don't really care about each other's station. Kuya doesn't give a shit about the church or its priests. Olivine respects other cultures and respects that Kuya is held in high regard among the yokai, but ultimately, Kuya is just another one of God's creatures. We see all the way back in Kuya's introduction chapter that Olivine doesn't seem intimidated by him, just kind of annoyed.

There's a few angles their dynamic could take, depending on circumstance.

Kuya intentionally tries to piss off Olivine just to see how much Olivine is willing to take. Olivine is very accomodating, and knowing that Kuya is trying to get a reaction means he would try to stay calm, but even he has his limits.

Kuya, on account of being old as balls and a yokai, has a sense of morality that can seem incomprehensible and callous to humans. Olivine might try for something along the lines of "I know there's cultural differences, but I still find your actions unacceptable", which Kuya would hate.

In either case: we'd get Olivine being genuinely angry. Not just "I was worried for your safety" angry, but genuine "you are such an asshole and I can't do anything about it" angry. I think it'd be neat to see a new side of him. NuCa events being NuCa events, they'd resolve the conflict soon enough, but they're never going to be buddy-buddy. The potential Kuya-Olivine dynamic of "we respect each other but don't like each other" is still a very unique one for Olivine.

If you just wanted PWP, Kuya is absolutely capable of straight up bullying Olivine so hard that he gets flustered and submits before there's even anything for him to be mad about. They're very sexually compatible, being the most sadistic top and the neediest masochist bottom. I think Kuya would find it a fascinating challenge to have a sub that'll take anything he can give and still beg for more.

Garu and Karu: I really don't know what to make of their relationship. Olivine comments in Forest Carnival that he can't help but want to watch over Garu and Karu, so it's... kind of a parental vibe? But that's a really fucking weird vibe to have when they're all having sex with the same guy. I dunno. I'm unsure of what to make of Garu and Karu in general, and given what I know of their writing in events and intimacy rooms, I don't think the devs know what to make of them either.

Blade: I think they're cute! Olivine is a master of social cues and Blade doesn't know what a social cue is. They'd have a lot to learn from each other. I'm going to plug another Zerenovation fic here.

Much like Kuya, Blade also doesn't especially care that Olivine's a priest, but it comes from a place of not knowing what a priest is and not from antagonism. I think that'd be somewhat strange but also nice for Olivine.

Dante: I find it hard to get a read on how Dante generally interacts with the other clan members. Dante and Olivine interact in Festive Glimmer, but miraheze doesn't have the transcript for me to remind myself of how that went. I think they'd be polite and friendly, but not especially close. They might have something to explore in terms of Dante also being very defined by his duty - probably not the sort of thing that'll ever be touched on in canon, but could be interesting in fic.

Ship-wise: I think it'd be funny to see how Dante tries to figure out topping Olivine. He's so used to dealing with Eiden's bratting, and Olivine is... distinctly not a brat. Romantically, there's currently not enough depth in canon for me to be interested, but if a fic existed I'd give it a shot.

Rei: We really haven't seen enough of Rei at all for me to get any sort of read on him. Olivine might have something to say about Rei chipping fragments off the water elemental gemstone?

Ship-wise: Rei might be the only person who can make Olivine a sub top. Like, pin down or tie up Olivine and ride him kind of thing. But again, I don't really know enough about Rei to be confident yet.

Hey, have you been watching The Last of Us? I get a Bethyl vibe from Ellie and Joel but only in the “stuck together against our will at first, eventually come to care about each other a lot” way, and also in the grumpy-sunshine dynamic way. But I can’t see how you can look at characters like Joel and Ellie and see a father/daughter (or familial in general) relationship and then say the same thing about Bethyl. It’s totally different! Obviously age gaps with both (more severely with Joel and Ellie), but Joel and Ellie are so playful and truly a father/daughter dynamic, whereas Bethyl has such strong romantic moments between them. I truly don’t understand how anyone can say they are brother/sister or father/daughter in any way. I know shipping them makes some people feel icky, but honestly seeing Daryl carry Beth to the kitchen, the way he watched her play piano, and the “oh” moment.. calling them brother/sister makes me feel icky lol.

No, I haven't watched The Last of Us yet. I probably will at some point, but haven't gotten around to it. I've had lots of people tell me about it, though. I'll probably watch it eventually. I do know that Ellie has many similarities to Beth, even in terms of the plot.

To your point, though, I totally agree! I've said similar things before, specifically using the Bethyl hug in 4x01 as an example.

Let me put it this way. I come from a family of huggers, and I have lots of brothers. The vast majority of them live relatively close by me and we see each other pretty often. Even so, when we're all leaving each other, we're the kind of family that hugs--even if we'll see each other tomorrow or something--and say, "love you guys." So, my point is, I have no problems putting my arms around my brothers.

I don't, on the other hand, full-body hug them, then look up into their eyes from inches away with tons of silent awkwardness allow a sweater to fall off my shoulder. That would be weird and creepy (and, you know, somewhat Cersei Lannister?) if I did that with my brothers.

Beth and Daryl were clearly meant to have a romantic vibe. That moment--and most others--were written to have a ton of sexual tension. And things like that are ALWAYS purposely written in by the writers. Anyone who says differently is just in denial.

Rewatching The Hunger Games movie for the first time since I saw it in theaters! Let’s go.

Literally the only thing I remembered about this movie was that the beginning was a different style than the rest, but I forgot it was because of enough shaky cam to make me motion sick. I am so glad that did not continue through the whole thing.

The world starting to gain color after they left the district did give it a sort of “Dorothy stepping into Oz” feeling, I can dig that

like I think JLaw is actually doing a decent Katniss, it’s just that Katniss is such an internal person who gives off awkward hostile energy inversely proportional to how many people are around, which doesn’t make for the best film protagonist

I am sad at the lack of Madge, because her part of the story is a big chunk of the theme of generations, but I grudgingly recognize this is the sort of thing that gets lost in a film adaption

and I do like the pin being a tie back to Prim, and then an early piece of rebellion from Cinna with it being not officially approved but snuck onto her outfit.

Aha. Things really picked up on the no-katniss-narration-to-guide-things front when it got into the arena, and they’re able to explain what’s going on by cutting back and forth between the gamemakers room and Haymitch doing sponsor things. Both of which are honestly fun to see.

It’s done to varied success here, but I do love seeing filmmaking attempts to show messed up emotional/mind states, and they clearly had fun trying different ways of doing that during the bloodbath and the tracker jacker sequences

(Peeta at the end of the book is like, he’s coming out of this with a boatload of trauma and he even lost a leg to this but at least he’s got Katniss! oh wait she maybe didn’t love him after all. this feels so less weighty)

Aw man I am cranky about the generic mutts. The horror of the tribute-mutts was SO evocative and really drives home the point that all of them are the Capital’s to play with (Did they really use their eyes? probably not but you don’t doubt it’s possible)

Instead they gave the moment to Cato with his little hope lost speech as a shortcut, which. hnn...fiiiiine.

nitpick but Katniss saying ‘trust me’ as she gave Peeta the berries bothered me bc it inferred Katniss knew how it would work out, when the irony is she started this rebellion on complete accident

Hmmmm okay whereas the end of the book is like, “I went through all of this but now it’s over (with strong hints that it’s not going to be that simple)”, the end of the movie is like “we are not even out of the arena before we realize that actually you're still fucked.” Like it is really focused on setting up the sequel and they almost forgot to give this film an actual ending.

You can’t stomp on the horror of the hunger games and how nobody wins it, even the “victor(s)”, that’s the whole point! bah.

I’ll say, 3/5. Can understand why they made changes they did, even as it frustrates me that they’re undercutting the message. [throws up my hands and reminds myself “it’s a movie, it’s hollywood, what’re you gonna do”] Overall, I enjoyed it for what it was. i still have a headache from crying over Rue, goodnight.

*kicks door in* I KNOW IT’S NEAR MIDNIGHT BUT I HAVE AN AU. 

It makes very little sense and I probably won’t ever have the motivation to create content for it, but nonetheless: Star Wars Original Trilogy x 70s era Scooby Doo! It’s a similar setup to Scooby Doo--young people chasing down crooks, meeting all sorts of strange creatures and getting involved in all manner of wacky hijinks along the way--but there’s some space-y elements involved (I’ll elaborate a bit on that later)! I’ll introduce the characters here, and if there’s some interest, I might write some more!

So, without further ado:

Lando as Fred! He’s the confident, friendly leader that usually gets the gang involved in these messes, but he’s also very good at getting them out! Much like Fred with his traps, Lando is an expert at creating elaborate little schemes to stop the culprit once and for all (which are usually constructed with Han and Leia’s help; Lando may be smart, but he’s not an ace mechanic). 

Luke as Daphne! Surprisingly, these two clicked immediately for me; both are a tad bit ditzy, but disarmingly perceptive; the team really wouldn’t be the same without them! (This is where Luke’s Force-sensitivity comes in. He isn’t by any means a Jedi in this AU, or even quite aware of his gift, but come on, he’s accidently discovered waaaaay too many trapdoors/secret entrances for it to be coincidence). Also, both are undoubtedly “the pretty friend”. Trendy scarves and Chanel boots aside, Daphne’s been flirted with by at least a dozen one-off male characters, and you cannot convince me that Luke would be any different; he’s got a different hunk on his tail every other day and he’s absolutely enjoying it! 

(Also, yes, Luke is wearing the purple blouse and matching miniskirt in my mind, no, I won’t be elaborating or taking constructive criticism, thank you ;)).

Leia as Velma! The vital braincell of the group, Leia is definitely the most grounded. Her first impulse is to figure out as much as she can about the current threat, though she’s certainly not above swinging a blunt object if things go awry! Because she’s the most thoughtful--or as Han likes to complain, a buzzkill--the others tend not to hear her out right away, more focused on their overdramatic, overcomplicated solutions than a conveniently missing piece of evidence or strangely timed encounter that she notices along the way. (Again, Leia’s Force-sensitivity shows itself in a similar fashion to Luke’s, but even more subtly; where he tends to sense physical disturbances, Leia just feels when someone or something isn’t quite right. Again, it’s not so much a power like in the original films as it is an odd quirk, but it’s definitely there!) Seriously, things would wrap up so much faster if they just let her handle things for once! 

(Unfortunately for all of us, those instances are few and far between. Her boys are very lucky that she loves them as much as she does; they’re so much trouble).

Han as Shaggy! Alright, I know this one is a little strange but here me out: same aesthetic, but entirely different vibe. I always interpreted Shaggy as someone who seems very useless and cowardly but when he gets himself together enough to play along, he’s surprisingly adept and a real asset to the team, maybe even brave! Get it? Okay, now imagine Han as the exact opposite of that. He’s reckless and hotheaded on the surface and is usually running after the monster without a plan, a weapon, or any information before the rest of the gang can so much as blink (think canon Han, but a little more awkward and less outwardly cocky). Granted, he actually manages fine when he stops to think--he can be surprisingly cunning at times and brings Lando’s schemes to the next level!--but usually, he’s a mess and a half that the others are constantly rescuing. 

(Note: the idea that actually spawned this AU was a quiet scene of Lando, Luke, and Leia researching this week’s monster while Han goes looking for more clues. Leia grumbles in response to Lando’s confidence in his friend, “I just hope he really can handle this on his own”. Smash cut to Han screaming at the top of his lungs, running from about half a dozen more monsters than we were aware of 5 minutes ago (???), and just all around Not Handling It Very Well).

And good ol’ Chewbacca as Scooby Doo! As the token furry mascot, poor Chewie is constantly saving somebody from something. He’s very clever and intuitive, and his miniscule observations, much like Scooby’s, are usually what save the day (when he can get his lovable but idiotic human friends to listen, that is!). Just a good bro, with a big brain and a bigger heart, Chewie is the glue that holds the team together :) 

(And yes, he absolutely picks up Han bridal style and carries him out of danger while said idiot throws a tantrum--”It was fine, Chewie, I could have handled it--I was not screaming like a little girl!!”--at least once every episode :P).

I feel relaxed to see that you are not shipped them blindy and can also see the things which shows jk's two sided behaviour sometimes. Finally i can to talk someone who can think from both sides... postive and negative. He even sat on tae's lap at the concert..so he basically did things for both of the shippers y know. I promise to always look at all evidence, regardless of how it makes me feel. I’m not interested in deluding myself. There’s plenty of solid instances of Jikook over the years that we don’t need to make things up. But neither should we hold onto the past if the evidence is showing us something different now. So you can always talk to me about Jikook and I’ll give you my honest assessment.

I like to think what separates us from the cult is the ability to think critically and accept reality. And the reality is that something is a little off this year, compared to all the other years. We don’t know why, but a lot of us sense strained vibes.

During the most recent concerts and warm ups, JK kissed Hobi’s cheek, gave a long back hug to Yoongi, wrapped his arms around Joon’s waist in a long hug, played (carefully) with Jin, and also heavily flirted with Tae (twirling, shoe shine moment, lap sit). The first two days were painfully awkward between Jikook (to me). The third day was getting better. The last night—the night they filmed—he was all over Jimin and they did the bridal carry.

I’m not saying it was all for the cameras because I don’t think they are liars or fakes, but if they knew it was the last concert for several years, the maknae line probably wanted to give all their fans various “ship” moments. So I take what happens during a performance with a grain of salt. Not a huge indication of their real life relationship.

More telling is the way Jimin stayed behind while JK worked on the seom game design, or how happy JK was during the Vegas Vlive to say Jimin will be his boxing partner, or the way JK tapped Hobi’s shoulder and silently put him on the floor so he could sit on the couch next to Jimin, plus they stayed so close together while playing games in the arcade in DC. They still chose to orbit each other in free time…

As for talking about Jimin’s OST—keep in mind it was a YamYam production, not a Hybe one like Yoongi’s or Hobi’s. Not sure what the rules are around promotion of outside efforts. No one spoke of it; Tae played it and he knew the melody and lyrics by heart. But no one mentioned “Good job, Jimin! We support you!” And since that would take literal seconds on social media to do, I have to conclude not mentioning it was a conscious decision.

But what’s baffling is that Jimin never once mentioned or promoted With You—except to answer a question in his Weverse article explaining his friend wanted to do something like that with him for years. It has been two months and both Jimin and Sungwoon and everyone around them act like that song never happened. It’s first day was cut short, it wasn’t listed in the proper genre category, it didn’t have an official Spotify artist page or playlisting, it didn’t get much radio play… I have zero clue why. Very off.

It did shake me that JK said he didn’t know Jimin’s solo songs or 7 tattoo placement. Some fans insist he was teasing/deflecting but I hesitate to make assumptions just because I find them more comforting than simply holding the fact in my mind, waiting for more clarification. Taken at his word, JK doesn’t know THE most intimate details of Jimin’s life right now, so that implies distance—physical and emotional.

There seem to be murmurs on K forums that since festa dinner, Jikook have been out to dinner and affectionate with each other, but no proof makes it hearsay. I don’t speak Korean so I’m getting those rumors third-hand.

I think given nine years of intimacy plus an INSANE first half of 2022, I have to withhold judgment about Jikook right now. I’m leaning towards they are fine and still in love but it’s been a crazy few months and they are being quieter while enlistment and solo era firms up. That’s my take thus far!

I got this from a different fanfic that is really good on A03, but here's the plot. Shawn is a curious little shit, so he buys a spellbook and whatnot. He fucks with it a little and pop! Taker shows up and is like "hey, wanna fuck?" And they develop a relationship

Oh yeah, I'd definitely do something like that. I remember I started a Succubus au a while back but never really finished it, so it never got posted. I also did a vampire!Taker x Explore/Knight!Shawn type thing. That was complicated but never finished that either. So, this will be a long answer.

Vampire-

I'd probably go down the old route of Shawn wandering upon Takers mansion after his car broke down. (Cliche but I love it) and he kinda, well not kinda he does, break into Takers house thinking it's abandoned just looking for a place to rest. Taker who's out hunting with Kane or something, doesn't know until he gets back and finds a blonde in his bed.

Lucky for shawn, taker isn't like kane who'd just kill him on sight and taker waits for shawn to wake the next day before talking to him.

And of course Shawn finds him hot as fuck. And it confuses him because he never thought his type would be a goth man in a abandoned looking mansion. But atleast he's tall and stronger than shawn. He asks shawn questions about why he's here which Shawn just replies he was running away from some problems and his car broke down. He thinks he hit something.

So taker, clearly hot for the blonde, offers him the guest bedroom until he can get ahold of someone.

Stupid idea because this leads to awkward flirting and lust just building between the two. And takers scared, of course Shawn doesn't know what he is. Shawn finds out after another vamp tries to eat him and taker appears, snarling his fangs at the vamp and clinging to shawn. Shawn offers him a drink, as he thinks the vamp has been starving himself to protect shawn from the truth, which would most likely lead to sex. Because it's Shawn. And taker 100% has a blood kink, and shawn probably has some sweet blood.

Succubus/incubus-

Its 100% the kliqs fault Shawn ends up with taker. They peer pressure him into buying a choker with a ring on it. And well Shawn likes it so he buys it anyways. He didn't know it came with sex demon, a nickname taker hates, after their first time, taker tells him to keep it and wear it so taker can find Shawn easier.

Shawn becomes use to the demon living in his house. Waking up to a hungry demon. Falling asleep to a full one. Shawn isn't complaining, he gets sex with an attractive man..well demon. Shawn obviously doesn't tell the others. Which confuses them as they get concerned as shawn hasn't told them about his sex stories in over a month. They think he's gone clean, something bret wanted him to do if he wanted them to date, which the kliq did not want. In reality, shawn has fallen in love with a lust demon, taker also hates that name, and can't bring himself to sleep around.

Which taker knows, he just doesn't mention as shawn doesn't seem to notice his lack of sleeping around or the fact he loves the demon. He doesn't mention it as the man seems happier and more content. Taker knows what he wants and gives it to him. More than sex aswell. He holds shawn at night even though he doesn't need the sleep. He's there when he wakes up. He tells him when he's leaving and when he'll be back. Taker doesn't mind. Shawn feeds him enough that he doesn't need to see others and well he has feelings for the small human aswell.

They both teach each other things they didn't know. They both always enjoy each others company, which shawn can't say about many.

The kliq only find out after taker appears to defend a distressed Shawn. Bret starts on shawn and taker suddenly storms in and defends shawn.

The kliq are just madly confused as shawn explains that he's his boyfriend. Taker is also confused at the term but gladly plays along. Kevin, saw the ring around shawns neck glow before the man turns up and does his research and tells the others. Which leads to them confronting shawn who admits the truth but adds that he does love taker and that he thinks taker loves him.

Which leads to another confrontation between the kliq and taker. Which taker admits yeah he feeds off shawns lust but he does love the man.

This Christmas would be different, for one particular reason.

Watari has hereby refused to keep buying presents for L to give you. He’s vowed to stop decorating the tree for him and setting up Christmas lights in patterns intricate enough to win competitions. No more…at least for this year.

“I’ve given you a break between cases for a reason, L. Spend time with them.”

L is the KING of practical gifts. Remember that vacuum cleaner you mentioned needing a while ago? It’s showing up under the tree with a bow on it.

“Oh, what’s this?”

“Detergent.”

“…”

“You said we needed detergent.”

He means well, and he really did put a lot of thought into your gifts. He thought about everything you said you needed from the last few months and went out of his way to go to a store and get it for you.

Because of that there’s no way you can even feel disappointed. Besides, you’re not receiving pointless shit that you don’t know what to do with. And you did need detergent.

Man’s tall. He can hang Christmas lights without a ladder.

He also puts the star on the tree.

And runs into all the mistletoe you hang everywhere.

Mello’s family used to celebrate Christmas diligently. And even though he doesn’t have the best of memories connected to his family, the Christmas season has always been a time when his family would mend itself, at least for a while, and he could focus on simply being a kid with presents and food and joy.

It kind of catches you off guard when he’s so passionate about Christmas, but in a good way.

Considers “Die Hard” a Christmas movie

He tries so hard to get you something you’d like, but the poor thing honestly isn’t that great at gift giving.

He probably overthinks it too and stresses himself out so much before resorting to a gift card.

And he’d feel extra shitty if you get him a really sentimental or expensive gift. Like one time you got him this really sick pocket knife that was coated with matt black and engraved with gold on the blade.

But other times…you get burnt out too.

“Okay, so I’m really sorry”

“But I couldn’t really think of anything good enough for you this year.”

Christmas is a very casual occasion for Matt. He never celebrated it and he doesn’t mind continuing that. He’ll really only contribute if you want to celebrate it with him.

Shit at wrapping presents, but a master at picking out great ones.

He remembers a surprising amount of things you tell him.

“Woah, is this (insert thingy here)!? Didn’t I only mention this once? And weren’t you on your phone the whole time I was talking!?”

“What, you think I wasn’t listening?”

He’ll go along with whatever you want to do, honestly. Going sledding? Sure, no probs. Building snowmen? ‘Kay, Matt’s game. He’s making a snow Mello.

But the time Matt likes the best is when you’re cuddled up after these chilling activities by the fireplace while watching a movie. Hot chocolate may or may not be available, depending on how much Mello has already had. If not, coffee is a fine substitute.

This is Matt’s preferred time to give you your gifts and, although he doesn’t require it, he’ll be delighted if you give him one as well. Games for his console is always a safe bet, but giving him something sentimental will always warm his heart.

Just the thought of you going above and beyond for him when he told you that you didn’t have to…it really puts it into perspective just how much he means to you.

“It’s a necklace! Now, I wasn’t really sure if you like jewelry but I made sure the beads were your favorite colors and — oh, look! — I picked out a charm from that game you said you were obsessed with as a kid and…are you okay, babe? Are you…are you crying??”

Christmas isn’t always about bribes and reluctance, though. Near really likes setting up his toys in the nativity scene display thing, so that’s something he’ll do willingly.

You can tell he appreciates everything you get him because he spends hours playing with your gifts afterwards.

He also takes a few hours to open like three gifts. Just because as soon as he opens one gift he likes to take it out of the packaging, read the instructions, set it up, and mess with it for at least thirty minutes before moving on to the next gift.

It’s a process.

✿ — chenle. another boyfriend who also gives off best friend vibes. the two of you would be going backwards and forwards insulting each other playfully, never wanting the other to get the last word. he would be protective in the way that he would get very angry if someone talked badly about you, he would always stick up for you. he wouldn't hesitate to call you out if you were in the wrong, but that being said he would still be so supportive and would give you advice if you wanted it. he would also be very comfortable around you, he'd treat you like a friend he's very close to in that sense. chenle would also be buying you things 24/7, and not in a showy-offy way, it's just because he sees something he think you might like, so he buys it.

✿ — jisung. he would be so so so shy at first. like, even if he just wanted to hold your hand, he would have a whole internal debate about it. you might have to initiate a lot of the skinship in the beginning, but sung would slowly get more and more confident in being physically affectionate, that now he just leans over and kisses your cheek without even thinking about it. he loves comparing your hands, or just seeing the difference between his hands and you. we know he has huge hands, and he loves just placing your hand against his and seeing how small and cute yours looks next to his. he also loves cupping your face with both his hands and seeing how they're bigger than your entire face. he definitely would do stuff to try and impress you (sometimes failing on purpose to make you laugh <3).

Harry had come up with a thousand scenarios of how this day would play out. Actually, he’d been thinking of this day since the moment he’d received the news. He didn’t dare to hope that she’d say yes to coming back for a sequel. He’d been sure that they would write her character off, give a lame excuse for how his love interest could not make a return and make his character forget about her completely to move on with a new girl in town. It would have been great if it was that easy in real life. Once someone was written off the script, they were gone for good. Real-life relationships were not that simple. Goodbye didn’t mean ‘never see you again’. You would still share the same friend circle and social bubbles, and it was worse when you two worked in the same industry. Harry didn’t know how he’d lasted a year without running into her, not since the Grammys.

“Didn’t you two date?”

“No.” Harry shook his head, but his eyes stayed glued on Y/N from across the room. She wasn’t looking his way, too busy saying hello to everyone else. “No,” he repeated, more to himself than to his co-star. “We didn’t.”

“But she wrote an entire album about you,” said the other twin. What was her name again? Lulu?

“Luna!” cried her sister, Lex. “You can’t ask him that!”

“No, it’s okay,” Harry said with a tight smile, slightly annoyed by the blonde twins, but he didn’t want to seem like an ass on the first day of filming. “And I don’t know if it was for me. You should ask Y/N.”

“Ask me what?”

Harry flinched when he looked up and saw Y/N padding towards them. She hugged the twins, who seemed way too excited. Harry guessed they were Y/N’s fans. They gave off crazy fangirl vibes, probably just pretending not to know the drama to interrogate him. He couldn’t blame them for assuming he was the villain and definitely could not blame Y/N for portraying him as one. It was more important that he knew who he was and how much he had changed since his last relationship. Maybe they could finally be friends.

“Were they bothering you?” Y/N asked him once the twins had left.

Harry nodded. “They’re your friends?”

“Oh, I met them last year on tour. I’m surprised you don’t know them. They were on Disney.”

“I don’t watch Disney,” Harry admitted with a smile. “Well, not today’s Disney.”

“Understandable.” Y/N nodded and bit her lip. She seemed guarded with her straight back and hands hidden behind her. She eyed him up and down, quite subtle yet noticeable. “How have you been?”

“Pretty good,” he said, nodding slowly. “You?”

“Yeah, but mostly tired because of tour.”

“You’re done?”

“Yup, last night was the last show.”

“Nice.”

Y/N raised an eyebrow. “Nice?”

Harry blinked. “Did I say something wrong?”

“No.” Y/N giggled. “You still sound very...you.”

“Well, shouldn’t I?”

“Yeah, you should. But it’s been a year so…I mean, you haven’t changed much.”

“Right,” he said lowly, his eyes falling to his feet. Harry supposed he should say something else, perhaps bringing up another random topic to discuss, but all he could think about was what had happened between them. Things had been messy, hadn’t they? How could they go back to before that? Before her first song about him. Before he’d chosen someone else over her.

Or he could talk about her new relationship. She’d been in a happy relationship for almost six months, right? No wait, hadn’t they broke up two weeks ago? He wasn’t sure because he hadn’t been catching up. If they’d broken up, he’d sound like an ass to even mention her ex’s name. He should just stay quiet.

“I’ll see you later?” she said, gesturing at her stylist who was waiting by the door.

Harry could ask her right now -- the reason she’d agreed to film the sequel to their first movie together. He’d heard from a very reliable source that she’d specifically asked her agent to decline any project that he was in. So did this mean they were good? That she didn’t hate him anymore? He could have gathered his courage and got the answer right then…

“Yeah, see you.”

...but he didn’t.

And so she gave him a smile and a little wave, then happily returned to her stylist.

“See you tomorrow, Y/N!”

“See you, Annie!” Y/N said as she put the rest of her things into her tote bag. Her new driver had got her schedule mixed up, and so she had to wait here for another half an hour. She was in no rush. It had been a light first day, and she’d had a fun time getting to know the new cast members and catching up with old friends.

She sat on the sofa in the lobby, legs crossed, texting her best friend about her day. She’d purposely left out the short off-screen conversation with Harry, and her best friend didn’t even bother to ask. In their world, he didn’t exist, and his name was censored in every conversation like a curse word that was even worse than ‘cunt’. Nevertheless, she didn’t hate him anymore. She was doing just fine on her own, being busy with her career, and she’d been in a happy relationship after her fall out with him.

She and the guy, a model, had broken up two weeks ago due to long distance and some differences that they could not change. They had ended on good terms and decided to stay friends. They said you could only stay friends with your ex when you still had feelings for each other, or you had never loved each other that much in the first place. For her, it was probably the latter. Her previous relationship had been more platonic than romantic, apparently. So she had nothing but the best to say about him.

As she was going through her camera roll, just reminiscing about the past, she heard footsteps approaching and looked up to find Harry. He offered a smile and gestured to the spot beside her on the sofa. “May I sit here? My ride is late.”

“Yeah, sure.” She hurriedly scooted over.

“Good job today,” he said. “You were great.”

“Thanks, so were you.” She smiled, and they both looked away at the same time. This was so awkward. She hated small talk. She’d never had to have small talk with Harry. Conversations with him used to be so easy and natural and silly. Whatever this was, it wasn’t them.

“Can we just be normal?”

At first, Y/N thought she’d been the one who’d said it, so when she realised it’d been Harry, she was speechless.

He swallowed and sat a bit straighter, still not looking at her. “I don’t want us to be weird and awkward.”

“Okay,” she said.

He cleared his throat. “Wanna try again?”

“Yeah, sure.”

“Okay, not to sound like an ass but when Joey kept forgetting his lines, I was so pissed off, I could throw a chair at the wall.”

“Right?!” exclaimed Y/N, feeling free to have finally broken out of her shell. “Like, he doesn’t even have many lines. I know he’s new but damn...you can’t get far if you don’t learn your goddamn lines.”

Harry shook with laughter. “Oh God, we sound like dicks, don’t we?”

“Maybe.” Y/N laughed, covering her mouth. “But you know what? We can’t be nice in this industry. It’s impossible.”

“Shhh, if someone heard this, we would be into big trouble.”

“Oh please, I’ve had worse articles written about me than ‘Y/N speaks facts about her lazy co-star’.”

Harry tossed his head back and cackled. “The worst one I’ve got this week was ‘Harry Styles hates therapists.’”

“What?!” Y/N gasped. “No way! That’s so stupid!”

“Right?” Harry rolled his eyes. “I could get all my therapists to speak up for me but I’m kinda immune to bullshit now.”

“Therapists? Like plural?”

“Yeah, one in every city.”

“Damn.”

“Yeah.”

Y/N rubbed her hands onto her legs. “Rough year?”

Harry’s eyes rolled to the back of his head as he leaned back. “You have no idea.” Then he swept his hair out of his eyes, sucked in a breath, and finally looked at her. “I wish I could have talked to you, though.”

She bit her tongue, knowing what she was about to say next would disappoint her best friend so much, but she had to. “So do I.”

Harry looked taken aback before his lips curled into a smile. “It’s silly, isn’t it? I haven’t talked to you in a year, and I feel like I know everything that’s happened to you except that I don’t.”

What he’d just said might make no sense for most people, but Y/N knew exactly what he meant. She nodded and wetted her lip. “You only know as much as everyone else does.”

“Yeah, I got updates on you from the news and our friends.”

“Same.” Y/N smiled back. “I hate how they write articles about your new haircut but not mine.”

“I like your new hair colour.”

“Thanks. I like your new car.”

Then they both burst out laughing. It was fun and also a little bit strange that Y/N didn’t feel the same anxiety talking to him as she used to. It must be because they had grown and were now meeting again as better people.

“Damn, my ride's here,” Y/N said as she read the text from her driver. “I gotta go now.”

“Oh, okay.” Harry stood up and followed Y/N to the entrance. “Hey, just wondering--”

“Yeah?”

“Am I...am I still blocked?” He looked a bit flustered as she tilted her head and squinted her eyes. “On your phone. Because I remember you having my number blocked--”

“I unblocked you on your birthday.”

“Oh, really?”

“Yeah.” Y/N shrugged. “I should’ve sent you a happy birthday text but...I didn’t want your girlfriend to get the wrong ideas.”

“My ex.”

“Yeah, I know.”

They smiled at each other one last time before saying goodbye. Y/N knew it was silly, but she was hoping he would go after her.

Ding.

A notification popped up when she was in the car. She was almost home, and it was from Harry’s number. He’d sent her a link with a message that said, “Hope you like it :)”.

Curious, she tapped on it and was directed to an audio file titled ‘Track 5’. The upload date was last year. About two weeks after their short conversation at the Grammys.

Hurriedly, she fumbled inside her bag for her iPods and put it on before she pressed play.

“Hey, Jeff, I couldn’t sleep so I wrote this song. Listen and let me know if it should go on the album.”

Then came the piano intro. It sounded good, so Y/N wondered how it hadn’t ended up on his last album.

But when he started to sing...

The song was for her. He’d written it when her new relationship had gone public. Y/N sat there, staring blankly ahead until the honking of a car tore open her inner peace, and reality came crashing back in. The driver dropped her off at her house. Instead of going inside, she stood on her front steps and replayed the song one more time. When it ended, she decided to text him: Why didn’t this make it to the album?

She didn’t know where he was now, but it showed ‘typing’ in less than a second, as if he’d been waiting in their chat since he’d sent that link.

You would’ve hated me, Y/N.

True, she replied. Still, I would’ve loved the song lowkey. And added, I love it btw.

He took so long to type that it was driving her crazy. She flopped down on the concrete stair with her phone clutched in her hands, her heart thundering against her ribcage. Anxiety popped like a balloon when his message appeared: Were you happier?

She reread it again and again.

No.

I wasn’t either, he responded. I kept getting deja vu.

In the beginning, Itadori probably thought you were shy until you actually talked to him in a full conversation or when you were fighting a curse in front of him.

You just didn’t talk much and you would distance yourself away from new people when they come - like this was really evident when he and Kugisaki came to Jujutsu Tech.

You even stay quiet around Gojo and not as easily irritated as Fushiguro, you just have a bit more self-control.

During the time before your relationship, Itadori notices how much of a good listener since you unintentionally do things that he really likes - like maybe go to a restaurant that serves his favourite food together or you buy him a manga that he has been wanting for some time.

Sometimes he also slowly begins to notice that you do things he hates for him, like folding his clothes or buying him new ones since Sukuna keeps ripping them - like an act of services type of thing.

During your relationship, Itadori is the one that talks to fill in the room for the both of you, but you would smile at him while he talks because he looks so happy explaining his day to you.

Itadori will still think you are a bit shy since you are reserved and don’t show your feelings often, but once you give him some simple physical love and affection, his heart will just explode.

Like if you give him a kiss on the lips or cheek, maybe even a hug, he would be the happiest sunlight there is.

Cuddles are just peaceful together, he really likes it when you sit between his legs while he is playing games like you will ask questions on what is going on and he is happy to explain, but he really likes how you turn quiet to concentrate - it’s like you’re the one playing.

There are times when Itadori would want you to open about yourself more if you are too reserved since he wants to know everything about you - you probably know a lot of things about him because you just fully listen to him.

Of course, you slowly open up to him and he really appreciated that since it's like stepping out of your comfort zone slightly.

However, when it comes to fighting curses or during the Kyoto Exchange Event, he realised that you are quite strong and not as reserved when you have an objective of defeating someone.

You’re still quiet since you don’t like talking in battle, but you are strong and that scares him slightly.

In conclusion, you and Itadori are like opposites but it doesn’t affect your chemistry and relationship at all, rather it makes you both discover more about each other.

You and Fushiguro are basically the same person - there is no question to that and I will refuse anyone that tries to rebuke my statement.

When you both first met, it was really awkward since you both weren’t willing to talk to each other but when Fushiguro starts the conversation that is when you will contribute.

Before your relationship, Fushiguro didn’t really think you were shy since you never really showed hints of it at all - you were just closed off about yourself.

However, since he kind of has the same personality, you both somehow become close and just vibe with each other.

When you both are in a relationship, you both can just hang around each other in silence and just relish in each other’s presence.

Like you could be laying on your stomach while reading something or playing Genshin Impact on your phone (that is me) and he would be leaning against the headboard while reading a book with one arm on your outstretched legs to make sure that you are actually there - sometimes it gets a little too quiet.

Mornings are like the most perfect thing for both of you because no one wants to get up and if you don’t talk, then no one has too at all right?

When you both cuddle, Fushiguro will sometimes read to you while you listen or he just draws patterns of your back or arm to lure you to sleep.

Sometimes he really likes to lay between your heads and have his head on your chest because I know he has a hard time sleeping.

Since you are not shy at all, you are the one that initiates the physical aspects of the relationship like kisses and hugs and maybe more...and when Fushiguro becomes shy, that will cause you to smile lightly because that is a cute sight to see.

Fushiguro sometimes worries that you are too quiet since he really doesn’t know what you want if you don’t say what you want, you know? - Communication people.

So at the beginning of your relationship, you both would work on communications and maybe have signals for each other to tell the other person what you want - like when you link pinkies, you want to hold hands or when you tug his sleeve twice, you want a kiss.

What surprised Fushiguro the most is when you fight curses because you ain’t so reserved and you seem really confident.

But that keeps him calm since he knows now that you can take care of yourself when he is not around since he is really protective of you.

In conclusion, you and Fushiguro just naturally draw closer to each other and that makes it easier for you to open up about yourself to him since we all know that Fushiguro is a good listener.

When you and Gojo are together, he will make it his mission to get a reaction to get a whole reaction out of you since you are like a stone statue to him….emotionless….you’re not, by the way, he just sees you like that.

He will do anything to make you shout/yell at him. He will joke, flirt, irritate you every single day, so he can get you to break away from your overall persona - of course, it doesn’t work since being reserved means you have a lot of self-control.

If you met Gojo, during his Jujutsu High days and you were a student as well, expect four years of pure annoyance and hell with him.

When you both start dating (somehow) Gojo will still make it his mission to make you react and his students get really confused on why you are with him and what he is trying to do because he is probably doing something really silly.

One thing he really wants as well is a blush from you since you are not shy at all. He just wants to see a peek of red on your cheek - just a tiny bit….

Gojo will kiss you in front of students, nibble on your ear, neck or collarbone or tap your ass while walking past but you just don’t react like how he wants you to.

When you are quiet, I feel like Gojo will wonder if he has done something wrong beforehand and will try to get an answer out of you since he is worried that he has messed up.

Only for you to say that you just can’t be bothered to open your mouth and talk since that requires a lot of effort.

Since you are also reserved, you don’t talk about yourself much (not on purpose, it’s just who you are) and Gojo will do anything to make you talk about yourself more by bribing you with your favourite food - just because he is childish doesn’t mean he isn’t smart.

However, one thing he really likes about your personality is that you don’t get bothered by anyone that tries to steal you away from him - why date someone when you are in love with the strongest right?

Like he will giggle and laugh at people’s attempts because you will give them a silent response after they have given you a flirtatious joke - you just make the situation awkward because you’re not reacting.

Although, when you are fighting a curse, Gojo finds it really sexy and attractive that your personality takes a whole 180 and you just seem so confident.

Like after the battle, he will come and just shower you with love and kisses while you just turn back into the stone statue that he loves - at least he got the glimpse of your other side right?

In conclusion, Gojo will turn to do anything to get a reaction out of you since he is used to your quiet personality but it’s just an excuse to get to kiss you more since he is just a clingy hog.

When Sukuna meets you for the first time, he has an impression of you being really irritating since you don’t give off a reaction that he desires or that you might be obedient due to your quietness - spoiler alert, you are not.

However, he soon discovers that he is incorrect the moment you raise a weapon to him when he is just plainly annoying you - bad move but hey, why not.

Sukuna is probably the only one out of all the characters that can break your reserved manner because you usually have good self-control of your emotions - but he is just a different breed.

But he really likes that you are not shy since that doesn’t mean you’ll become timid to his advances - but he would like those moments like Gojo.

When you are fighting curses, Sukuna can’t help but be intrigued since this is when your confidence really shows and he can’t help but smirk.

Since you’re not shy, Sukuna would really love it when you give him all your attention with a few kisses here and there - it’s like you are worshipping him.

You are just comfortable with him and that worries some people since….like why? But it’s you and Sukuna only loves you since you are just calm around him - you don’t act like he’s a monster but rather a person that is hard to deal with because he has a confidence that it just cocky now (and murderous but we don’t care about that)

If he loves and adores you, he will give you some back to attempt to make you give off a few sounds that he really wants to hear - like a moan or a whine.

I feel like Sukuna would really like that face that you are self-sufficient since you can handle things on your own and he doesn’t have to lift a finger - but he is still protective of you since he doesn’t want anything leaving a mark on you, only he can do that.

However, he will have a mixed reaction that you love time to yourself since he wants your undivided attention 24/7 - he won’t admit he likes your presence, so he will make up an excuse to be with you.

In conclusion, Sukuna has mixed feelings about your personality, there are positives that he really likes but there are times where he gets annoyed that it just motivates him to get something out of you.
