#but they usually do a good job with remakes and the fandom wants some remakes but

ngl it's getting rly annoying seeing people say "remake of x game!" constantly. people are so obsessed with the idea of remakes lately. they don't wonder what the next new game will be like. they just want remakes (including in franchises that don't do those often. not every franchise is Tales, where they've been doing remakes actively throughout its lifespan and not just during this Uwu Remake Era).
with FE, remakes make me a bit eh bc they've all sold poorly or just barely made a profit. Marth's games' remakes on top of the failed Tellius sales almost sent FE into its grave. SoV is just... there. it happened and the fandom moved on, save for the Alm and Celica alts in Heroes.
but like, it was so annoying watching VA interviews and just seeing the word "remake" thrown around so much from the chat. people want "remakes" of games that just don't need them. updated ports is one thing, but entire remakes?
there's more to FE than remakes, but it's all people seem to talk about. I'd like Tellius ports as much as the next girl for people's accessibility (and specifically bc IS' lack of marketing destroyed those games' sales and now they're so rare they're super expensive), but a remake? it's not necessary. even with quality of life features added, those games only need ports. I play them very regularly and frankly have way more fun with them than I do with modern day Menu Emblem.
also, I don't want the fandom wank carrying over into remakes of games that never even had wank. the biggest wank Tellius ever had was the Ike vs Micaiah wars in the fandom, which were not only a fraction of what happens now post Fodlan games but also weren't anywhere near as aggressive.
idk I'm just tired of remake this, remake that. it's also because of the rampant remakes in the industry that I'm tired of it, but it's also tiring to see it constantly in this fandom. I'm glad that FE7 is coming back, but as a port on the Switch and still as a GBA game. FE4? super glad it came back as a port (JP eShop only). remakes though? too tired of the concept (especially when FE remakes have not only almost killed the franchise from lack of sales but were otherwise just mediocre and moved on from pretty quickly). I also don't trust the FE fandom with remakes at this point. character hate is so rampant in this fandom that for the life of me I don't even want Tellius ports if it's going to save me the headache and aggravation from people's lack of character comprehension. :') that shit will turn me into a hard stan and my blog will have to be painted in my blorbo just to keep haters away. :'''')
#DCB Comments#do not reblog (i don't want jerks whining at me for having thoughts/opinions on this and just need to rant a bit)#like no seriously you can't even talk abt Jugdral anymore without people whining abt remakes#instead of ppl discussing the games as they are (not just those two but any of them)#they always bring up remakes instead of enjoying what already exists. it makes it sound like#ppl don't actually /really/ enjoy what we have and won't until it's remade#remakes aren't even necessarily bad in and of themselves. Tales does really good with them usually#they've had a few bad apples or generally unpopular ones (Innocence R is the worst thing they ever did in that franchise tbch)#but they usually do a good job with remakes and the fandom wants some remakes but#I don't see the word used even half as much in that fandom as with FE#also remakes kinda worry me in FE bc like... they only come out on handhelds#(specifically to date they've only ever come out on handhelds so there's no history of console remakes to speak of)#and if they don't just totally bomb they don't do much for the franchise as a whole#while yes I think Jugdral remakes would end up with the games being more known and might sell well#the fandom wank is going to be insufferable and I've been through enough Jugdral wank /without/ remakes#I like when ports come out and the games are released again on moderns consoles but... remakes? eh#as far as FE goes remakes just don't work for me. I've heard FF has good remakes?#idk I don't play FF but it seems to get a good reception for remakes. Tales usually does#Hearts R is a mixed bag bc it was absolutely great but the loc was absolute dumpster garbage#they tried to be ~quirky~ and weird but only had JP audio so you'd get like#tiny sentences in English subs with a whole long sentence spoken in JP and you can tell how lazy they were with the loc#Hearts R is a remake and needs a remake just to fix what they screwed up so badly#Innocence R was just entirely a mistake that was a stain on Innocence itself and I refuse to acknowledge it (as do most fans)#other than that they've done tons of remakes and they do genuinely usually improve the games. FE though? yikes#also tho Tales' fandom is more sane than FE's and I don't even trust them with the GBA games let alone Jugdral/Tellius games#and like wanting remakes generally speaking isn't bad... but it's like ALL ppl talk abt anymore regarding ''the next game''

tw: opinions.
sometimes i truly cannot stand videogame fandoms. the constant comparison towards the women is insane. i always find people arguing with me about ellie williams, ada wong and numerous others being ‘strong’ enough to beat lara croft in a fight.
first of all — all these women work completely different jobs. i don’t even know why ellie is being brought into the conversation, considering she hasn’t experienced anything like lara, and more so like ada, but not exactly. this brings in my first argument, really; she doesn’t share the same experiences considering she’s much younger than both lara and ada so let’s quickly draw her out of this!
second of all — regarding lara and ada. the reason i get into so many debates is because the people i’m talking to are usually hardcore aeon stans. which is fine, i’m not going to generalise, and really i couldn’t care less about who ships who. it’s just annoying, considering ada is heavily inspired by lara in many, many ways. lara is not just an archaeologist (you don’t see her digging up fossils and researching them. 🤦🏼‍♀️) she’s done many spy-like jobs like in tomb raider 7. i like ada, re4og ada is actually one of my favourite videogame characters, but definitely not the first. i don’t mean to say lara is better because my opinion wouldn’t apply to many people and another thing that irks me, these two brilliant women are from completely different videogames.
lastly, my actual thought on this debate? lara would win. i’m sorry, but let’s bring some facts into this. ada lacks upper body strength because she uses mainly grapple hooks and fireweapons, but this doesn’t mean to say she’s weak and can’t throw a good punch. it would just put her at a disadvantage, plus the heels she wears (which she rocks) but let’s be real for a moment here. ada is incredibly agile, she’s a fast runner and can think well in complicated situations similiar to leon which is an attribute i think they share, so her lower-body strength is really good. only problem is, she’d be versing a woman who literally has the best aerobic ability, both in the reboots and the classics. if you haven’t seen how high lara can jump, i suggest checking it out. she’s flexible, incredibly intelligent and sneaky, i can’t really give a comparison between the reboots and classics because she’s equally good in both.
another thing that puts ada at disadvantage, her arsenal. lara uses all sorts of fireweapons (rifles, launchers, sub machines, hand guns and etc.) , combat knives, archery gear, explosives, and of course, grapple hooks, climbing equipment— her hands and legs. in the resident evil four remake, ada wears that iconic sweater dress which tears quite easily in seperate ways, which also puts her at disadvantage as lara usually wears tactical gear that can protect her. her critical hit damage ranges from over 300% whereas ada’s (and leon’s and almost every other resident evil character) ranges from 25%. why? experience. she was born in 1968, which makes her older than ada in 2024.
so if some silly person were to ask me that immature question again, and actually wanted an honest answer; then yes, i do believe lara would beat ada, i do believe she would beat ellie and lots of others. even jill. but this is my opinion that’s based on facts that i’ve seen from playing the entire tomb raider triology.
but overall it’s a stupid thing to even discuss because it seems like i’m putting those women down. i’m not. they’re all strong in their own ways. if ada weren’t an anti-hero i believe she’d get along with lara, and it’s needless to say that ellie and lara would get along too, kind of in a claire and sherry way, and jill? honestly, i think they’d be best friends.
(by the way, i love leon so much, but he wouldn’t stand a chance against lara either. especially classic lara, who is practically op.)

Considering your meta on Leon is one of the best interpretations of him (if not the best) I've seen in the fandom after playing the game, it's pretty sad reading some of the twitter drama and seeing people say you're part of the problem for fandom Leon acting ooc. It really does show that the second someone starts shipping something "noncanon" (read: I need everything spelled out for me by devs) or caring about sex/romance people stop taking them seriously. But I just wanted to quickly go against that and say you're doing a good job! Hope you're not feeling too down because of anything.
Dude, you guys are so nice to me, even at times when I probably don't deserve it. I'm done deliberately sticking my hand in the fire for a while, though. I've done enough shitstirring to last me probably the next few years LMAO
And it's alright. This is far from the first time I've been shouted down. That's why this is my pinned Tweet:
Tumblr media
You should have seen the shitstorm I caused in FF7 fandom when I tried to tell them that Rufus Shinra is going to be a secondary protagonist in Remake. They called me a fascist sympathizer who never actually played the original game.
Then they learned what Before Crisis was, and then Nomura came out and said that a plot thing happened because Rufus is integral to the plot and will have an extremely high level of agency moving forward, and I've had people slorp-glorping my Rufus meta ever since.
I practice Death of the Author when I analyze stories for a reason. 9 times out of 10, later canon or Word of God comes out to affirm what I took away from the text when I looked at it divorced from any other noise. Usually, when I miss, it's because external circumstances regarding late-stage capitalism interfered with the storytelling process (looking at you, The Evil Within 2).
Regardless of people's feelings towards the... less than ideal way I communicated my opinion today, my writings (both fic and meta) speak for themselves. RE4make is barely half a year old, and people's impressions are still fresh and unrefined. Just like with FF7 fandom -- in time, they'll learn that I'm right.
Or they'll move on to a different fandom entirely, and they won't.
You know, whatever. It do be like that sometimes.

Chapters: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
Read on Ao3
_____________________
Vash smiles as he hands the young woman her drink.
“Sorry! I know you asked for no whipped cream today, but I kind of just put it on there out of habit. I can remake it if you want!”
The woman looks up at Vash , down to the drink, then back up at Vash and smiles.
“You’re way too nice, thank you!” She takes her drink, waves goodbye, and leaves the cafe.
Vash waves back as he pretends not to notice his coworker sighing and rolling her eyes next to him.
“Awfully convenient that you just happen to mess up her order after she was talking about not getting whipped cream because she needs to save money.” Meryl places her hands on her hips and cocks an eyebrow, waiting for Vash to acknowledge her.
“What? No! She just usually gets whipped cream so it’s what I’m used to! It was an honest mistake!” Vash looks down at Meryl, feigning as much innocence as he can despite knowing he’s been caught.
Meryl rolls her eyes again, sighing in exasperation.
“Fine, whatever. My shift is over anyways, so it’s legally not my problem anymore.” She begins untying her apron as she heads for the back of the shop. “Think you could ring me up a small coffee that accidentally turns into a medium frappuccino while I clock out, Mr. Honest Mistake?”
Vash laughs as she leaves the room, then does a very good job of looking busy when Meryl comes back a few minutes later, only to find a frap and a bag of mini croissants sitting on the counter.
“And I suppose this is a botched order of some kind that’ll just get thrown away if I don’t take it?”
Vash hums and shrugs noncommittally, carefully avoiding eye contact.
“I know your family owns the place and all, but can you really afford to give away so many freebies?”
“A happy employee is a good employee, right?”
Meryl sighs, but can’t stop a smile from appearing on her face anyway as she picks up the ‘botched’ order.
“So I suppose that means whipped cream lady is starting tomorrow then?”
Vash laughs as he waves Meryl out, grinning as he watches her leave and braces himself for what is sure to be a boring afternoon.
-
Cafe Seeds isn't exactly popular. It’s tucked away on a side street a few blocks outside of a trendy neighbourhood, meaning it loses most it’s clientele to the more conveniently located (and much pricier) cafes that actually reside within said neighbourhood.
But even if Vash is always a little strapped for cash, he’d take empty pockets and his handful of quirky regulars over a healthy bank balance and hoards of nameless customers any day.
Though, he’d also take a healthy bank balance and a couple more regulars if it were an option...
The day passes in a blur of pleasant monotony, mostly Vash busies himself with cleaning and doing inventory, but a few customers trickle in to distract him briefly.
Vash likes to play a game with his customers, weather they know it or not, where the goal is to make them smile or laugh at least once before they leave the store. An up-sized drink here, a free cookie there, and occasionally some playful banter (the kind Meryl would insist was flirting no matter how hard Vash denied it) for customers who didn’t want anything extra with their orders.
It always worked, his win rate was 100%.
If he was being honest with himself, a small part of the reason he did this was because her knew making sure his customers left the store with a positive impression was good for business, making it more likely they’d decide to come back in the future. But for the most part he just genuinely enjoyed making people smile.
Making coffee might not be his dream job, but it was something he enjoyed well enough, and having the opportunity to make the world feel just a bit friendlier for so many people was something he really cherished.
About 30 minutes before close, the bells above the door ring, snapping Vash out of his boredom induced haze and into customer service mode. He turns away from the dishes he was cleaning and flashes a brilliant smile toward the man entering his cafe.
Vash is pretty sure he’s never seen the guy before: black hair, black clothes, black shades, and a pissed off expression that would make god think twice about crossing him. Definitely not the kind of guy who smiles easily.
But the challenge just makes it more fun.
“Hi there, what can I get for you?”
“Black coffee, biggest size you got.”
“Sure thing! We’ve got a couple different roasts, if you-”
“Just whatever’s strongest.”
“O-oh, of course! Coming right up!”
The man pays without another word and moves down the counter to wait for his drink.
Vash pours the coffee, trying to figure out how to get a guy like this to smile. He obviously doesn’t seem up for small talk, so that's out, and he already ordered the biggest coffee size, and asked for it black, so there's nothing Vash can really do to the drink itself.
Baked goods it is then.
Vash turns and flashes another bright smile towards the man, moving to hand him his coffee.
“Y’know, we’re about to close up, so if you want a muffin or a cookie or something, I’d be happy to throw one in for free!”
Vash has barely finished speaking when the man takes his drink, turns and waves dismissively.
“I’m good. Thanks.”
And just like that the man is gone, bells above the door ringing to let Vash know time was up and he had lost his own favourite game for the first time.
Vash heads home that night sulking, wondering what kind of person turns down free sweets.
-
Vash groans and turns away from the sunlight so rudely sneaking it’s way through the slats of his blinds.
His clock tells him there’s no point in going back to sleep, his alarm will go off in a few minutes anyways, best to just get out of bed now and take those minute to enjoy an extra long shower before heading back to Seeds for the day.
He rolls out of bed and shuffles his way towards the bathroom, keeping himself wrapped in his blanket until the room begins to warm from the heat of the shower water. Once he manages to stumble his way in, he finds himself dozing off in the pleasantly hot water, mind wandering back to the previous evening.
Really though, what kind of person comes into a cafe all by themselves at almost 8pm, just to grab a coffee and leave? And turns down freebies?
Vash is pretty familiar with late night caffeine seekers, but it’s usually stressed out students or tired night workers, both of which are always more than happy for a little chitchat and some free snacks.
Vash takes a deep breath and exhales through his nose, trying to untie the knot of frustration tying itself in his stomach.
Lots of people have late coffee, he reminds himself, for lots of reasons. And lots of people don’t like talking to strangers, and lots of people have strict diets. The guy was just living his life, it wasn’t his fault Vash liked to play silly games, and it wasn’t his fault he had ruined Vash’s perfect record.
He had probably just had a bad day. Sure, he had a pretty scary face, but he didn’t really look like a bad guy. Even with the shades on Vash could see he had kind eyes. Maybe that’s why he wore the shades? To try to make himself look tougher?
He really did look pretty tough though, broad shoulders and thick arms his leather jacket hadn't been able to conceal, artfully messy hair and a bit of rough stubble on his chin and neck, leading down to some rather impressive looking pecs barely concealed by the tight black V-neck he’d had on...
Vash’s alarm blares from the other room, snapping him out of his thoughts.
Right. So maybe he was frustrated by more than just losing his favourite game....

Welcome  all!  This  is  a  private,  independent,  selective  roleplay  account  for  Caleb  Dume  who  is  also  known  as  Kanan  Jarrus  from  the  Star  Wars  franchise.  This  portrayal  will  have  similarities  from  the  source  material,  but  will  also  be  heavily  headcanon  based/canon  divergent, and will take things post empire from Legends.  Important  information  such  as  rules  and  changes  will  be  down  below  under  the  link.  If  you  have  any  other  questions,  feel  free  to  message  me!
Interest   tracker.   Promo.                      Affiliated: perhaps soon!
Changes:
When the time comes for him to be knighted, he finds peace with Caleb Dume. From that point on, he goes by Caleb Dume.
As much as I find Hera and Kanan cute, I won’t be writing them as if they are in a relationship. However, this doesn’t mean I’m not open to shipping with a Hera. I personally would rather find a connection with one.
The Ghost doesn’t get too involved with the Rebellion, at least Caleb and Ezra don’t. They continue to take from the Empire, train, and help people in anyway they can, and stay based on Lothal. I think with two Jedi being involved in the rebellion as deeply as speaking with Mon Mothma and Bail Organa doesn’t give the shock to Luke Skywalker as it should. This is my personal preference, and makes sense for the story as a whole.
Rules to follow! I'll keep it simple: Mun: My name's AJ! I love characters, love talking about them all the time. I love to read and write. I mostly read horror, and recently found it's actually a favorite genre of mine. I'm a nerd, a dork, hella shy, and would love to be your friend!
Please be kind and respectful! If there are any issues with me, please come to me in an appropriate manner. I don't bite, I promise. We all know we can't read each other's minds!
NS.FW. It could be possible on this blog since i have yet to decide if I will make a sideblog for it or not. Either way, I will only write this with those I am comfortable with.
Shipping. I love to ship. I'm opened to it as long as we both are good with it, and talk about our muses to see if they click.
Controversial characters. Totally down to write with any type of character. I won't limit myself. If this bothers you, please do not follow.
Triggers. I'll tag what I can/remember. I will NOT write with drunk muses. This doesn't need to be tagged for your threads, I just don't want to deal with it one-on-one.
OCs/Fandoms. Totally chill with OCs, just have some type of an about page. I can try and fit my muses into anything, and will follow blogs I can see working (even if I don't know the fandom).
Be patient! I have a full time job and a few other blogs I hop on. I usually go with the flow, see what muse I have. Plus please be aware that I struggle with depression. Some Days are good and others not so much.
OOC. I love to chat ooc. Through IMs or discord. Whatever works for you. Although, discord is only open to mutuals.
Icons. I will be remaking my icons so it might take some time. Either way, I am find with not using icons.
Disney Star Wars/Sequels. Okay so... I am not a big fan of the sequels. I won't take much from most of Disney live action shows, but I am not a grouch! I'm very much open to talking to find a common ground for plotting!
MUTUALS ONLY!!!!

Mobile friendly rules under the cut:
Short, sweet, and to the point. Follow these rules and we all have a great time.
Mutuals only. I must be following you and you must be following me. Only those that I follow can like starter calls, send in character asks, and reply to posts.
1a. I will not interact with non-Mutuals, that includes asks, unless it’s done anonymously and it doesn’t have a url attached. Anyone who breaks this rule will get about a few pardons but after that will be blocked.
My time is limited here in what I can do. This means that I am very selective in what I reply to. Doesn’t necessary mean that I am ignoring anyone. Some days I reply to everything and everyone, others I am so burnt out from irl things or work that I just lurk and do the bare minimum. My mental health and well-being comes before anything else.
2a. Replies vary by length and time. I normally work eight to ten hours a day and experience a lot of exhaustion. Unless I don’t see a thread or an ask going anywhere and publicly make a post saying it’s been dropped, consider everything as pending / will do ASAP. Memes are okay to send in late unless it clearly states, not accepting. My timezone is Eastern Standard Time or EST. United States is where I am located at. I am usually online from 10 PM EST to 3 AM EST unless it’s a day off from work, which the online time will vary from 12 PM EST to 3 AM EST.
2b. Role-playing is a hobby, not a job. Do not pester me for replies or asks to be answered. I am not obligated to owe anyone anything on this website. I am human and can’t cater to everyone’s needs. Being persistent here is not going to make me answer yours faster than other people.
2c. Don’t follow, unfollow, and then refollow my blog. It’s not going to make me want to follow you back, ever. It’s annoying and no one is being crafty by doing that. If you continue to do this and it isn’t a tumblr glitch, I will be inclined to block and possibly report for spam.
If you do need to break mutuals with me, HARD BLOCK my blog. Don’t just UNFOLLOW or SOFT BLOCK because chances are that I could mistakenly follow you again. And that’s something we both don’t want since it would be quite awkward.
3a. I have the right to unfollow whoever I want to and so do you. Please don’t go on a hunt and try to guilt trip me into following you back again. Just don’t. I can and will tell you the reason why I unfollowed you but other than that, just let me leave in peace.
3b. Personal blogs and non RP blogs will be blocked on sight. Please, if you have a side blog let me know through asks so I don’t accidentally block you. IMs are not a good way to let me know since they are closed for non-mutuals.
Duplicates are welcomed to follow me. The more the merrier. I do not suffer from same muse anxiety and encourage any of the same muse to follow me. Only request is that you don’t steal my headcanons, edits or icons. Other than that, we should all be able to have a good time. I’m always up for twin verses or alternate universes shenanigans.
4a. Original Characters are allowed to follow me. However, they need to be a little flesh out before I make a decision to follow them back or not. Just a small backstory or biography is all that I need. Headcanons also work if there isn’t an about page but must have about one page worth for me to consider following.
4b. Crossover Characters from other shows are allowed to follow me but I must know about said muse or else I’ll have a hard time whether to follow or not. Few fandoms I won’t interact with because I have no interest in these series are: Avatar the Last Airbender, Avatar the Legend of Korra. ( more to be added ).
I am a multi-ship blog. All ships are separate in their own standings. Akira is usually is between 16 and 17 in the ORIGINAL game and ROYAL remake. Akira is 17 in SCRAMBLE. I will only ship him romantically with muses that are in the ages between 15 years to 17 years of age.
5a. I am open to all kinds of ships, not just romantic ones. I also enjoy platonic, rivalry, and familiar bonds. All ships are open to discussions through my IM(s) or otherwise known as Instant Messenger. Chemistry is key. As long as we interact a little, there’s always the chance that both muses can be in a relationship.
5b. Is there any ship that you do NOT want forced on you?: I personally don’t ship AkeShu / ShuAke ( the Protagonist x Goro Akechi ). Please don’t force this ship on me. I’ll only except a slow burn for both characters and only that when both the other mun and myself agree to do this.
Things for you to tag for me are: BIRDS, CHAIN LETTERS, ORGANS, DOGS. For the birds and dogs, just irl ones trigger me. I am fine with cartoon / art / video game ones as they are not real.
6a. This blog will contain sensitive themes from time to time. However, I will tag common things like those mentioned below. If you need anything tagged, please let me know through instant messaging / IMs. Things I’ll tag for you are but not limited to: BLOOD, GORE, DEATH, BODY HORROR, EYE HORROR, INSECTS, MAGGOTS, BRUISES, SCARS, GUNS, KNIVES, CLOWNS.
I am over the age of eighteen. However, I refuse to write smut as I am not comfortable with that subject to begin with and Akira is a minor. Please never force me to write this with you and if you keep sending things to me in this type of nature, I will report you, no questions asked.
7a. If I see any form of hate and I find out it was you that sent it, I will immediately BLOCK you. No questions asked. Life is too short to send unwanted hate, anon or not. All anon hate and hate towards me and my characters ( s ) in general will be reported and then blocked, no questions asked.
My pen name on here is SERE. Obliviously, that is not my real name but it’s what I go by. It’s short for ‘Serena’, the English name that DIC gave Usagi Tsukino in the Americanized version of Sailor Moon. It’s pronounced; SIR-REE.
I am not a meme source. If you need to reblog a meme from my blog and don’t plan to send me anything, reblog from the source. I hardly get asks as it is, and for you to just use me as a meme source puts a bad taste in my mouth and I feel like I’m being used, which isn’t a good feeling. If you wonder if you should send in a meme to me, please do. I love getting asks. I do hoard them from time to time like a dragon hoards treasure but I do get to them eventually. The more memes / asks, the merrier.
9a. Feel free to turn inbox items that are answered from me into threads. Just remember to make separate post when replying. Do not reblog threads not meant for you and don’t reblog my headcanons. It’s okay to reblog my asks though if you want them to be keepsakes on your own blog. Also, it’s alright to reblog musings and images from me.
I usually am not considered spoiler free. All games in the Persona 5 series ( original game, dancing in starlight, pq2, royal, and Strikers / Scramble ) will NOT be tagged. Follow at your own risk to avoid spoilers.
10a. Please tag the popular ship AkeShu / ShuAke ( Goro Akechi x Persona 5 Protagonist ) / ( Persona 5 Protagonist x Goro Akechi ). I am not a fan of this ship at all and would request it to tagged at all times. Tags can be as simple as ‘akeshu’ and ‘shuake’.
10b. Please don’t refer my Protagonist as Ren Amamiya. This will surely make me unfollow or possibly block you. Yes, I am aware that this is his ‘canon’ name in the Dancing Game, Anime, and Mementos Mission but this new name just makes me uncomfortable. I’ve been using Akira Kurusu on my previous archived blogs and I am more inclined to have the Persona 5 Protagonist to follow the original manga and the original game more than the newer content.
10c. Please tag your Persona 4 Arena / Ultimax hate. These games are near and dear to me as these were the first Persona games that I have played and made me want to invest in the series as a whole. Failure to do so will make me HARD BLOCK you if you do it more than three times.
10d. Please tag all of your the Protagonist / Joker is Bayonetta’s son. I really don’t care for that take and don’t want to see posts like that on my dash. Failure to do so will make me HARD BLOCK you if you do it more than three times.
I rather not be bothered by callout posts and any potential drama that might accumulate. I am just here to have fun and I hope everyone else can too. Life is too short to spend on certain things that don’t matter in the long run. If I see multiple call out posts from you in a single day or that’s all you post, I will quietly unfollow you.
Out of character posts will be on here from time to time. Mostly talking about life in general or me venting once in a great while. If this annoys you, please remember that this is my blog, not yours. You are welcomed to unfollow / block at any time.
12a. The best way to interact with me is to send memes / asks / inbox things. I am always up for unprompted things in my inbox. Also, my instant messenger is always open if someone needs to contact me out of character or to plot something. Don’t hesitate to talk to me. I will try my best to respond.

Also, if you are gone for more than 6 months, I consider your blog inactive and will probably assume that you aren’t going to return.
I’m really laid-back in nature so don’t feel pressured to reply to anything I send to you. I understand that life happens and that sometimes you just need to unwind from the stress of daily life.

for the WIP game, the day the moths died sounds super intriguing... please tell me more
ahh thank you! it's...a huge wip. i'm still heavily planning out a lot of things about it, but i'm super excited to write it out once i've got it all sorted.
it's also a remake of an old fic i had started back in one of my old fandoms. i never got past the first chapter because i realized it didn't really...work for the characters in that fandom? but it honestly fits perfectly for tdj, and for the dystopian aesthetic of the show
it's gonna be super niche, though, so it probably isn't for everyone lol. it's also pretty self-indulgent. by that, i mean it's got elements of things that i personally find fascinating. concepts of alchemy (less fullmetal alchemist more haunting ground), homage to an indie game called 'inside', a detroit become human-ish plotline (actually that's the first fandom i was going to write this for back in 2019), the list goes on and on lol
basically, it takes place in the wake of a disaster that wiped out a great deal of the human population. in anticipation of said disaster, the united nations had come together in an underground project to create artificial human placeholders for jobs and other economic needs in order to keep society functioning as closely to normal as possible. they'd been steadily integrating these beings into society over the course of the past several decades, and following the disaster, sped the process up.
these artificial humans were meant to coexist with society fluidly as if they were human themselves, but giving something that was supposed to be more like a robot autonomy usually doesn't pose good results. not being given choices as to who they would be or what they wanted to do with their lives--simply expected to perform the task they were given at creation--these beings eventually rebelled. some of them violently, some of them running away. and as more and more begin to do so, governments all across the world are forced to act.
i'd like to point out here that these beings aren't robots or androids or anything like that. they're artificially-created humans. this is important.
in south korea, a special police force is created for the sake of tracking them down. they call them 'moths'--a blatant reference to them being considered a pest, and the fact that most of them have short lifespans. they also exist solely as an indirect aid to human reproduction.
enter kim gaon, a newly promoted detective, who is assigned to this group. he and his cohorts (you guessed it--soohyun and jungho) investigate reported sightings of escaped moths as well as places where people have been attacked by them. on one mission, gaon finds himself diving headfirst in a chase after one of the most infamous of the moths--a rogue from the early days, coined 'atlas'--and his view on society is turned on its head.
i'm gahan trash, so it's definitely going to be the main pairing.
i couldn't find a short way to explain this fic, and this still doesn't cover all of it. i do have a bit of the first chapter typed up, so here's a little snippet:
How do you feel during a storm? What do you think of when you see the violent flash of lightning? Hear the clap of thunder reverberating around you after? Are sheets upon sheets of thick, heavy rain chaotic? Or are they cathartic?
What is your perception of the things surrounding you? Do you tremble in fear and anticipation? Are they ominous—a sign of terrible things to come? Or are they opportunities? Can you latch onto them and change them into something that makes a difference for yourself and those around you?
Is it the end of the world, or is it a new beginning?
It’s strange, how such broad questions have always been posed to Gaon in small, square rooms. With politeness and anticipation, a quick bow, silent acknowledgement of the words being spoken to him. Pondering, wringing his hands in his lap, while his mind works to try and understand the purpose of what’s being told to him. As far as he knows, he’s never had need for a therapist, but the higher-ups insist on counseling—it’s a necessary part to being a detective in today’s world, they keep telling him.
And Gaon wants nothing more than to make a difference. So, mental health visits, whatever the station tells him he needs to do, he’ll do it. For that reason, he always tries his absolute hardest to bring reason into the questions the man typing away on his laptop is asking. He closes his eyes and breathes deeply—envisions a tempest of pouring rain and wind ravaging the city—and tries to understand his interpretation of it. Other times, he scans the bland gray-beige of the empty, lifeless walls in the small room and tries to make something more out of them. The colors are intended to be calming, most likely, but Gaon feels stifled more than anything. Still, he does as he’s told and insists to himself that in order to escape these four walls, he must handle this session correctly.
seems unrelated to all the description i put above, but it's actually super important. i won't spoil it, but these initial paragraphs are a HUGE foreshadow toward the route the story takes in the fic. things are not what they seem, and i'm hoping when i do manage to get this written out, y'all will enjoy it as much as i'm enjoying working on it.
but again, it's suuuuuuper niche. as you can probably tell haha
either way, thank you so much for this ask!

FFVIIR THEORY TIME!
I don’t usually do this because my fan theories are never very original, and these ones probably aren’t either, but here we go. Just so you know, I don’t take this stuff super seriously, so you probably shouldn’t either.
Full disclosure: I’ve been following the lore closely, but have not had a chance to play the games yet other than the OG. I was holding out until I could get a PS5 for the Remake, but we all know how well that’s going for everyone. That said, I think I have a pretty good grasp on what’s going on, but if I get anything wrong-especially something that totally Josses these theories-don’t be shy and let me know. To make it easier, I’ve put an asterisk by the ones that I’m not 100% sure about.
This post contains some pretty heavy spoilers for FFVII Remake and “that scene” in Intergrade/Intermission so consider yourself warned.
Tumblr media
Seriously, don’t come crying to me if you read ahead and see something you don’t want to.
.
.
.
.
.
Still plenty of time to turn back, folks.
.
.
.
.
.
To start off, let’s talk about the Whispers. These guys are neither an enemy nor are they allies, neither good nor evil. If this was Dungeons and Dragons, their alignment would be True Neutral. Their singular purpose is to keep everything and everyone on a path that leads to a predetermined outcome. If someone survives who was supposed to die, the Whispers kill them later. If someone dies who was supposed to survive, the Whispers bring them back to life. If someone goes left when they were supposed to go right, the Whispers are there to make sure the latter happens as it was supposed to. It would also appear that one of their jobs is to keep the timeline from splitting and alternate universes from being created.*
Now, after Sephiroth is defeated, the Whispers go on to coalesce into the Whisper Harbinger, who the party ultimately defeats, which would suggest that the Whispers have been obliterated as well. There’s now nothing to prevent this person from living, that person from dying and the other person from turning left. There’s also nothing to prevent the creation of multiple timelines. Determinism has been obliterated and nothing is predestined now.
Update 12/15/22: Yeah, I got the boss battles in the wrong order and the Whisper kaijus got got first. I'm a dumbass. But there are still Whisperers floating around during the Sephiroth boss battle, so this ship ain't sunk yet.
THEORY 1: ZACK TO THE FUTURE (WELL, THE PAST)
The common theory I’ve seen regarding Zack’s survival is that he is in a different timeline, and this timeline was created due to the elimination of the Whispers/Harbingers. We know this because in the Remake’s timeline, Shinra’s mascot Stamp is a beagle. In the timeline where Zack survives and makes it to Midgar, Stamp is a terrier. For the sake of brevity, the Remake’s timeline and Zack’s timeline will be called the Beagleverse and Terrierverse, respectively.
But there are hints that not only are Zack and a version of Cloud in the Terrierverse now, they’ve been deposited a number of years into that timeline’s past. A few things stand out, but are just vague enough to keep everyone guessing and, because this is fandom we’re talking about, fighting about it.
· The church in the Beagleverse is weathered, run down, dirty and the floors are torn up in spots. It looks just like how you would expect a derelict building to look. In the Terrierverse, the church is bright, clean and well-kept, and the floors appear to be intact. It doesn’t look like a building that has been crumbling for 5+ years, suggesting that this is the church as it looked in the past. This could be chalked up to Intergrade/Intermission having better graphics than FFVIIR, but for the sake of argument, let’s say it’s not that.
· The church is full of injured and traumatized people, suggesting that these people took refuge there following the dropping of the Sector 7 plate. But at some point in the Remake, Aerith remarks that years before, a section of the Sector 5 plate broke loose and fell.* That’s a pretty big piece of information to just toss out as throwaway dialogue, so it’s got to mean something down the road. What if these refugees are survivors of the Sector 5 disaster and not the dropping of the Sector 7 plate, which would not have happened yet?
· Zack bursts through the door and is crestfallen upon seeing the refugees. But when the camera is back on his face, his mouth drops open in shock. The screen goes black and he quietly says Aerith’s name in a questioning tone. We don’t see what he’s reacting to, but why would he just say her name instead of calling it out like he was looking for her if she wasn’t there? And why would he have a look on his face like he was seeing something shocking? Could it be that the Aerith he sees hasn’t aged a day since he last saw her or may even be a bit younger? Now I could have this all wrong and what I see as shock could be awe instead and he’s reacting to seeing what a beautiful woman his age-appropriate long lost love has become after 5 years. But since I’m theorizing, I’ll go with my version.
So there are things that point to Zack not only existing in a new timeline but in that timeline’s past. How did he get there? Hard to say. Perhaps the destruction of the Whisper Harbinger caused a temporal glitch that allowed it to happen. Or perhaps the rules governing time and space in the FFVII universe don’t apply anymore without the Whispers there to enforce them. It would appear so, because the last scene in the Remake shows Terrierverse Zack and Cloud passing by Beagleverse Cloud and Aerith and none of them acknowledge each other because we’re actually viewing two timelines at once and one is not aware of the existence of the other. But. Buuuuuuut. Cloud’s arrival at Midgar actually happened several days/weeks before that moment in the Beagleverse. I’m going to go ahead and say that time is far, far less linear and more malleable in this new world.
So why has this happened to Zack? Even if it was an accident in-universe, the developers didn’t just do it for shits and giggles or because it seemed cool at the time. This is going to be a factor in future installments. For now we have to assume that Zack will be left to figure out what’s going on without any kind of cosmic guide to help him. If he’s far enough into the past with knowledge of what will happen in Nibelheim, there’s a good chance that he would try to get to Sephiroth before the trip to Nibelheim to tell him what will happen if he goes. He, Cloud and Sephiroth would be connected due to the S-cells in their systems, not to mention they would have something in common since all three were subject to Hojo’s abuse. Sephiroth wouldn’t be so alone in the world. The three of them would probably become pretty good friends because of that. This would be even more interesting if they went far enough back that they could try to prevent what happened to Genesis and Angeal.
THEORY 2: WIBBLY WOBBLY TIMEY WIMEY SEPH
Going back to what I said about the old rules of space/time not applying anymore, this might offer a little insight into the identity of the version of Sephiroth that appears at the Edge of Creation. The version of Sephiroth who tries to be helpful to Cloud and asks for his help in return. The version that could have easily ended Cloud right then and there and won but instead chose only to defend himself and fight to a draw. The version that uses “ore” as a pronoun in the Japanese version. The version who speaks as though he’s seen the beginning of time, the end and everything in between. The version who seems to be able to transport himself and others to some point outside time and space that he calls the Edge of Creation. That’s not the Sephiroth we know, so who is he?
Sephiroth is a very powerful man, both physically and magically, and can do things that no one else can even with materia. He was always this way, even before Jenova got a hold of him, and the stories about him actually downplay his strength. If anyone could figure out a way to travel through time, hop between timelines and pull it off like a boss, it’s him. And in this scenario, his descent into homicidal madness may not have happened in the Terrierverse.
As for what he’s doing and why he needs help doing it, that’s not clear. He knows to take Cloud by the wrist to snap him out of one of his fits/visions, implying he has done this before either for Cloud or for someone else in similar distress. He asks Cloud to lend him his strength, but since when does Sephiroth need anyone’s strength to supplement his? It seems like he has discovered a threat so massive that even he can’t handle it on his own. Perhaps the destruction or domination of the Lifestream in the Beagleverse would be cataclysmic to the Terrierverse.
PROBLEMS WITH THIS ONE: if Ore!Sephiroth is from the Terrierverse, why does he fight the party in the singularity? Why does he appear to be controlling the Whispers? It could be that he’s not controlling them, but that they’re controlling him. Aerith says that each time she’s touched by them she loses a bit of herself. What if the Whispers managed to ambush Sephiroth and displace enough of his will to force him to do their bidding, but not enough to have full control? This is touched on more thoroughly in the next theory.
THEORY 3:SANDBAGGIN’ SEPHIROTH
So the version of Sephiroth the party fights as a final boss and the one in the Edge of Creation are one in the same, but the version fought as a boss behaves similarly to the one seen throughout the rest of the Remake and Compilation. He uses “watashi” instead of “ore” in Japanese and appears to have the same motives as our usual boy. But the differences between Final Boss Sephiroth and Edge of Creation Sephiroth are pretty striking.
What does this mean? Well for starters, Final Boss Sephiroth wanted the party to defeat him in order to free himself from the Whispers.
What may have happened is that Sephiroth jumped from the Terrierverse to the Beagleverse at some point in the past to do…something. I’m not sure yet. Maybe he just wanted to see if he could. The Whispers would see it as being wildly out of place and would do whatever was necessary to contain this threat to the timeline and to destiny. Even Aerith notices this in the English version (“you’re wrong! Everything about you is wrong!”). Of course it’s wrong that he’s there, that version of him isn’t supposed to exist in that timeline.
So as many Whispers as it took to subdue Sephiroth and get him under control would be sent to literally go and live inside him. The best they can do, though, is to try to turn him into as close of a version of Beagleverse Sephiroth as they can get. You can see that with the wing and such. Terrierverse Sephiroth, however, is still somewhat in possession of his will because it’s too strong for even the Whispers to defeat. He manages little escapes, and allowing the party to defeat him is one of them. This defeat breaks the Whispers’ hold on him, and he’s free. Once the party defeats all of the Whispers, he is no longer in danger of being subdued again.
This is supported by his talk of following destiny before the boss fight but talking about how he needs Cloud’s help to defy it afterward.
Update 12/15/22: Yeah, I got the boss battles in the wrong order and I'm an idiot for that, but there's still Whispers milling around during the boss fight with Sephiroth, so this one may still hold water.
THEORY 4: MAMA’S GONNA MAKE ALL OF YOUR NIGHTMARES COME TRUE
So in Part I, there are four versions of Sephiroth according to Word of God. There’s Hallucination Sephiroth, who only Cloud can see. His appearance is preceded by Cloud having one of his seizures. There’s Flashback Sephiroth, who exists only in Cloud’s memory. There’s Black Cloak Sephiroth, which is one of the black-cloaked, tattooed men being hijacked and assuming Sephiroth’s appearance. Then, of course, there’s Ore Sephiroth, who is a wild card.
Let’s talk about Hallucination and Black Cloak. People mostly seem to be on the same page that this is Sephiroth manifesting, but what if it’s not? What if it’s Jenova herself?
In the original game, Jenova has the ability to scan people’s memories and morph into any person she sees in them. It’s how she managed to infiltrate the Cetra and nearly destroy them. Sephiroth can do this as well, as we see in OTWTAS. He abandoned all of his memories to the Lifestream and doesn’t remember what he looked like, so he has to dig into the memories of those who remember him.
If it’s Jenova who is warging into the black cloak guys and appearing to Cloud as a vision, and if it’s maximum psychological impact she’s after, she probably wouldn’t appear looking the way she did when Gast found her buried, because that wouldn’t have much of an impact on Cloud and Tifa. She’d be just another boss to fight. But imagine how devastating to them it would be if they were confronted and taunted by the man responsible for the worst tragedy in their lives. Imagine what it would do to Cloud to have his dead mother’s last words smugly repeated back to him. If it’s psychological warfare that Jenova is waging, these are some pretty good tactics to use.
The thing is, the fans that first played the OG when they were 13 are in their 30s now, for the most part, and are more likely to appreciate a well-crafted story with characters that have far more shades of gray than the types that would appeal to a kid. And in my observation, the older teens and twentysomethings that may be new to the FFVII-Verse are pretty on the ball, too (seriously, some of the more interesting theories I’ve seen have come from this demographic). Sephiroth the mysterious boogeyman was terrifying to a 13-year-old, but not necessarily to an adult, who might be more inclined to take his origin story into account and see him as a borderline sympathetic if not completely sympathetic character who was done wrong. The developers painted themselves into a corner when they showed what he was like pre-Nibelheim in Crisis Core, not gonna lie. But they also gave themselves an opportunity.
THEORY 5: SPEAKING OF NIGHTMARES…
In the original, Jenova is regarded as more of a dumb animal fulfilling basic instinct and isn’t sentient. I think the Remake is going to play around with that, because while she’s like that in the OG, in other mentions, her actions are carried out with purpose. She’s not just hunting out of hunger or attacking out of fear, she’s actively trying to wipe the planet she’s on of its dominant species. And she’s not just attacking, she’s manipulating. She’s infiltrating. Think of the Predator, but instead of her being an interstellar trophy hunter, she’s looking for a new planet to devour before moving on to the next one.
Ifalna talks of her impersonating the Cetra’s dead friends and relatives. One of the novellas talks of how she would generate paranoia and suspicion in an attempt to turn the Cetra against each other so they would wipe each other out. Those aren’t merely the instincts of a mindless animal trying to survive, those are the purposeful actions of a malevolent force. She would know exactly how to get into someone’s head like an alien Hannibal Lecter and turn them into a bloodthirsty willing accomplice before they even realized something was off, especially if her target was mentally vulnerable at the time.
Does that someone sound like someone we know? Sure it does.
Now I’m not on board with the notion that Jenova was literally controlling Sephiroth’s every move like he was a drone she was piloting. I do believe that he was heavily influenced by her, though. He was in a very vulnerable state even before he got to Nibelheim. He was grieving, he was disillusioned with his job and Shinra, which had defined his entire life up to that point, he was likely drowning in self-doubt and on top of all of that he was almost certainly suffering from untreated PTSD from the war. Entering the Shinra mansion’s library signaled what was probably the lowest point in his life. In real life, these are the kinds of lonely, angry and vulnerable young men who are targeted for recruitment into cults and terrorist organizations because the recruiter offers them a human connection and a way to punish those who have wronged them. It's how extremists are made, and post-Nibelheim Sephiroth is most certainly an extremist. On top of that, he believed she was his mother, who he thought had died in childbirth. Take the emotional impact of that and combine it with all the crap that traumatized him up to that point, and he didn’t stand a chance against her.
Jenova would pick and pick at his shattered psyche, manipulating him, angering him and molding him into what she wanted him to be until she had herself a live nuclear warhead to deploy at will. In his moment of extreme vulnerability, he allowed himself to be radicalized by her and probably didn’t even realize it.
And she would be able to do it. What the Shinra scientists call “reunion” is a property of Jenova’s cells to be drawn to the main body. If someone has a high concentration of Jenova’s cells in their body-as Sephiroth does-the pull toward her would be unbearable. We can also assume that these cells allow someone to communicate psychically with another person with the same cells, as suggested by Cloud’s hallucinations/visions of Sephiroth in the Remake (assuming that’s what’s happening here, and Cloud isn’t just losing his mind). Sephiroth has so much Jenova in him that he’s essentially a human/alien hybrid. She wouldn’t have a problem poisoning his mind, because he was halfway there from the start.
There are a few things that suggest that Sephiroth is carrying out Jenova’s agenda, perhaps even thinking it was his idea the whole time.
One example is his megalomania post-Nibelheim. In Crisis Core, he didn’t appear to be interested in fame or glory. Leadership was just his job, and he was more than happy to hand the mantle of Hero to Genesis. But post-Nibelheim his plan is to become a god? That’s quite a leap. And he plans to become a god by absorbing the Lifestream and gaining control over it. That’s Jenova’s gig, and she may have sold him on that.
In Advent Children, his famous line about sailing the cosmos until he finds a new planet to create a shining future on is basically also Jenova’s thing. She goes from planet to planet, devouring what’s there and moving on like a swarm of locusts. Sephiroth may think he’s writing off this planet as doomed and using it to find a better place, but he’s carrying out Jenova’s agenda.
Welp, that’s all I’ve got for now. I’m sure that when Part 2 comes out, the theory machine will start rumbling again. One of the things Square Enix excels at is keeping things just vague enough that fandom speculation can go on for years. Maybe by then I’ll have finally gotten my hands on the unicorn known as the PS5. Or I’ll die of old age. Whichever comes first.

IronStrange Starter Kit - Master Fic Rec List for all Y’all Because You’ve been Asking and I’ve been Avoiding
Hi! All you anons and askers, I made a list!!! Hopefully some of these are what you’ve been after. :D
(Please reblog this, lol, I spent too much time on it...)
General rules: These are complete unless indicated otherwise, and end happily unless indicated otherwise. There’s a variety of ratings, as I have no qualms against smut, but I don’t usually read it outside of a larger plot. So I don’t think there’ll be many explicit stories on here. Word counts vary; I indicate general length but don’t go into specifics. What else, uh... Bold stuff is the headers and general subjects. I link the titles. Block quotes are author summaries. Enjoy!!
Okay so first off, there are a couple of Fandom Staples who just have leagues worth of good short stories, and if you haven’t read them, then definitely treat yourself to the array:
A Thousand Futures of Me and You - VisionaryGalaxy (Vishanti, what a legend, ily so much). This is a series of unconnected one-shots, each their own and covering a variety of tropes and moments and themes and AUs. They’re so fun (and/or painful and/or thought-provoking and/or tense and/or sexy)! In-character and amazing, consistantly.
Prompt Collection -  amethyst-noir (Arbonne). (Also a legendary human). This is exactly what it sounds like: a series of prompt fills in all sorts of tones. You’ll almost certainly find something here that feels like it was just made for you!
Alright, onto the individual stories and series!
Long fics/series:
The of overqualified hands and pi figures series - lantia4ever. (This was my first Ironstrange story, and it is no less magical now.)
A series of one-shots, all set in the same alternate verse in which Tony and Stephen first meet following the events of the first Avengers and then continue to meet after that throughout the canon up until Infinity War and eventually beyond it. Becoming friends - and more along the way.
Time After Time - fancylances. (I love love LOVE this one. Highly recommended.)
Tony Stark is unstuck in time. Stephen Strange might just be the only person in the universe qualified enough to help.
Citizen Erased - Imagined. (This author. Just... such a wonderful, talented, stunning person who makes wonderful, talented, stunning works. This story is masterful.)
What do you do when no one in the world ever manages to remember you?
Anyone who sees Tony Stark promptly forgets he ever existed after mere seconds. When everyone he has ever cared about has lost their memories of him, he goes to Stephen Strange, possibly the only one who can help him lift the curse. But a terrifying danger is coming, and saving the world isn’t an easy job to do when no one can remember who you are.
if only the gods had mercy on us and it’s sequel a soul too deep - orphan_account. (Vishanti, this series...  It’s so beautiful and emotional and heart-breaking and heart-warming. And it has so few views for so many words! One of my absolute favorites, VERY highly recommended.)
Tony Stark loved Stephen Strange. He loved him more than anyone could ever imagine. But then a terrorist group attacked the convoy. Then there was a car accident. In the middle of it all, there is tired, battered love. (And, maybe, a little bit of genius)
From the Top - lucifersfavoritechild. (Everyone reads this fic. Written by the blogger Monarch Of The Ironstrange Ship, it’s an MCU rewrite around the relationship. Very fun.)
“Stephen, if you’re . . . there somewhere . . . when I drift off, I’ll be with you again. I can’t wait.”
|| Personally, I think the MCU would be much better as a love story between Stephen Strange and Tony Stark. Don't you?
Starting from Iron Man, and going all the way to Endgame, with all the appropriate stops in between. Let's take it from the top.
UNFINISHED: Skin Deep - Mystical_Magician. (Super cool premise, and super interesting to read! The dynamic here is very fun.)
A battle that should have finally killed Stephen instead launches him into a parallel universe. Exhausted from centuries as Sorcerer Supreme, he chooses instead to explore this new world in any animal form except human. Having hoped for peace at last, he can't stand to be looked up to, to be responsible for others, to have the world on his shoulders.
If he'd hoped to avoid excitement, however, he really should have stayed away when he noticed an enormous explosion and a falling metal suit of armor as he passed through Afghanistan.
UNFINISHED: The End of Infinity - FriendlyNeighborhoodFangirls. (Self rec. Very long, very slow-burn. Canon-compliant Endgame fix-it. I’m trying so hard, lol.)
In 2023, the battle for the universe has been won. At a cost no one can forget, the fight is over—for all but one. Stephen Strange has an idea. An impossible idea spanning dimensions and timelines, life and death, and the lines of good and evil. But he's played impossible odds before—perhaps he never stopped.
All that Loki wanted was to fight, one last time, for the fate of his universe. So when he finds himself fighting for another, crashing into the past, he has a few intended words for the wizard that forced him there. But not before he finds a boy. Or, more accurately, before the boy finds him.
Peter Parker had been waiting for the next mission. He just doesn't expect it to come from the future, armed with a ridiculous story demanding a ridiculous quest. And he doesn't expect not to be able to tell Mr. Stark.
Tony Stark is trying to rebuild from the Civil War, knowing that someday, something will come that he needs to be ready for. And he doesn't know it yet, but two universes are trying to rebuild around him, and that something is already here.
Seven Stones. Five dead. Two universes. And one impossible quest to tie it all back together.
UNFINISHED: Sunrise in Exile - Ragdoll (Keshka). (Another fandom favorite! And for good reason. This is really really good!)
Tony does the math and realizes their best chance to save the universe is by... not confronting Thanos on his own turf.
So he steals a wizard and a spider and a space ship. And he runs.
(Three humans and an A.I in space, the alien friendships they make along the way, and discovering how science and magic might coexist in a universe where they can be one and the same.)
Shorter plotty ones:
Out of Suffering - Mystical_Magician. (So this author??? THIS AUTHOR??? Very very good, much yes, very good.)
Stephen Strange does not like people, but 14,000,605 lifetimes of fighting and dying alongside this small group have worn down his walls. He likes them, gods help him. He might even consider them friends. It’s really for the best that they all go their separate ways once Thanos has been defeated. In their eyes, he’s barely even an acquaintance.
Now if only Tony and Peter would stop surprising him.
moros - spookykingdomstarlight. (Almost got a spot in the angst section. Very good).
There were fourteen million universes Stephen had birthed into existence and let die and, in far more than he cared to count, the visitor standing before him had become something… dear.
Shaking is Caring - mariadperiad20. (This is just STUNNING. Highly loved.)
5 times Stephen's hands would shake, +1 time they didn't.
It's Kinda Chalky - DestielsDestiny. (This one’s pretty short, but definitely worth it.)
You can live an entire lifetime by looking into someone’s eyes. His sister used to say that all the time. Stephen never gave it much thought back then. These days, he can think of little else.
Something Magic - Imagined. (Beautiful!)
There is only ever one rule that matters:
do not fall in love with the enemy.
An Idiotic Theory - FriendlyNeighborhoodFangirls. (Self rec! I tried to be funny.)
His wizard has been cursed, again, and Tony's already used up his luck for the day.
(Stephen says it's not a curse. He says Tony's whole daily-allotted karma-based luck theory has minimal merit, citing the fact that Tony had come up with it while he was drunk.)
Tony really should have saved his miracle.
Love Through Time - babywarg (morphaileffect). (I love this one. It sticks with you.)
Tony discovers an old drawing of, and finally remembers, his invisible friend Stephen from when he was a child.
Alternates - doobler. (Super cool!)
After being punked by a lowbrow magician, Stephen finds himself falling through doors to otherwordly dimensions. How will he ever get home?
132 - 28ghosts. (Soulmate AU! Very fun, incorporates Stephen’s time-loop with Dormammu.)
Ninety-nine point eight percent of humans have a soulmate mark that tells them the age their soulmate will be when they meet them. Tony Stark has a mark. It's just that his is...different than most people's.
(Or: six people who aren't Tony Stark's soulmate, and one who is.)
and when the world falls (I will fall with it) - HeavenChild. (Another multichap soulmate AU. Absolutely lovely.)
Tony will give anything to those he loves.
People will take everything he gives before leaving him in shambles.
Rhodhey, Pepper and Vision have had enough.
Or the five times Tony had his heart broken and the one time he didn't.
i saw the end of the world - JumpToConclusions. (Why has no one read this fic??? It’s so good!!! Stephen knows the future since he saw it on Titan, and things grow more complex from there.)
Tony and Strange are trying to make this work, this being remaking The Avengers. ...And maybe they'll stumble into something else along the way.
Tiresome heart, forever living and dying - Mystical_Magician. (R e a d  t h i s  p l e a s e. The mythology is so cool and the symbolism is so beautiful and the prose is so satisfying. One of my absolute faves.)
As a fledgling crane, Stephen was too curious for his own good, and it was this curiosity that led to Eugene Strange finding and stealing away his feather robe. Trapped in human form, cruelly forged into the perfect son, not even his father's death freed him when his robe was so well hidden. He only managed to break his father's mold after breaking completely in the aftermath of his accident, and slowly gluing those broken pieces back together at Kamar-Taj, but not even magic could find what had been hidden. Enter Tony, after the defeat of Thanos.
Fluffy ones:
From The Outside - Live. (Hilarious.)
Being a sentient life-form surrounded by humanity can be hard. Especially when said humans just can't admit their feelings for each other.
Sleeping Iron Man - Golden_Asp. (Another fun one. Perfect balance of ridiculousness with a touch of angst to make it interesting.)
Stephen Strange stared at the Avengers on his doorstep, Tony Stark flung over Steve Rogers' shoulder like a sack of potatoes. "He touched something, didn't he?" "Yuup." or The one where Tony touches Sleeping Beauty's spindle, is put into an enchanted sleep, and everyone, even Rocket Raccoon, take their turn kissing him. But Tony only has one prince charming.
Doctor Ob(li)vious - lantia4ever. (One of my very favorites. So cute.)
Stephen starts getting some weird looks from the Avengers, spanning across disturbed, confused and even scared all the way to curious. He dismisses it at first until weird turns into knowing.
And knowing turns into realizing...even if the scheming teenagers had to all but paint it on the walls for him to do so. Oh wait...
Applied Combinatorics in Two-Player Games - 28ghosts. (Short and fun and full of snark.)
After a battle, Tony Stark and Stephen Strange argue about games.
-
“Chess is not a solved problem.”
“Has been since ‘97, Kasparov versus Deep Blue. Kasparov, 1; Deep Blue, 2; three draws.”
“Chess is a game, not a problem.”
The Courtship of Peter Parker's Father (Figures) - flyingonfeatherlesswings. (Peter plays matchmaker! Adorable.)
Peter couldn't stand to sit by while Tony and Stephen danced around each other any longer. Something had to be done.
Speaking Eyes - Vrishchika. (Not Steve Friendly. Tony is amazing in this. And Stephen is so fantastically dramatic.)
Tony has always had expressive eyes.
The Signs of Sleep Deprivation - FriendlyNeighborhoodFangirls. (Another self-rec. <3)
"Tony said to put the potato in the dishwasher, so that's what I did."
Sometimes, Avengers just show up to say hi. Sometimes, they all show up at once, and Tony makes an party out of it. Sometimes, he invites the snarky, oblivious, somewhat insecure wizard because, and Peter quotes: "everyone else is coming".
Sometimes, something needs to be done.
Show Me Your Scars (And I'll Show You Mine) - Imagined. (Adorable. Lovely. Imagined does it again.)
The worst part is that Stephen keeps tucking his hands away, just as Tony wants to hold them. He keeps hiding them, surreptitiously, no matter what they’re doing. It’s only when Tony kisses Stephen, or hugs him, that he feels the hands settle on his back, uncertain, ready to pull back within seconds.
It only makes him want to cuddle up to Stephen even more, but he backs away, not sure if it’d be welcome.
Promise? Promise. - sharonscarters. (AU, kidfic, absolutely adorable.)
A four year old Tony Stark runs away from home and finds his Guardian Angel.
What The Doctor Ordered - wakandan_wardog. (Post CW. Kind of not Rogues friendly? So fun, makes me smile. I re-read this one a lot.)
The Rogue Avengers are called back to New York because the heavy hitters are going to be needed against Thanos. Of course, there are some truths that Steve Rogers will need to accept sooner rather than later. Tony Stark has moved on and Stephen Strange will not suffer fools lightly.
Hurt/Comforty ones:
Among The Chaos of The Stars (You're My Safe Harbour) - ShootMeDead. (Oh my vishanti. OH MY VISHANTI. So so so so SO good.)
Stephen has always been able to hear the stars. Tony is the only one who can silence them.
each night like a white noise frequency - Phierie. (I ADORE THIS FIC. OKAY. I LOVE IT. READ IT.)
Stephen is no stranger to making hard choices. He doesn’t regret his actions on Titan, but months later they weigh on his mind heavier than ever; the cracks begin to show.
Just An Accident - CucumbersInGold. (I really like fics with Stephen’s hands and the difficulties thereabout. Idk, just one of my favorite things. This is beautiful).
Stephen's hands act up.
Learning, Unlearning - Caaaaaaas. (More character study than anything else. Really good.)
Whatever Stephen wanted with life, life just didn’t seem to know what to do with him.
In which Stephen learns and unlearns some very important lessons.
your eyes have their silence - doctortwelfth. (Oh look it’s another scars fic. I told you I liked them.)
Tony is gentle with Stephen’s hands even when Stephen forgets to be.
Burning Lines Into The Snow - petroltogo. (Not very Steve friendly. Short and sweet.)
Post CW: It's not just the team that's so broken they are barely able to comprehend how many parts they're missing now, how many have been ripped and twisted and torn. It's Tony as well, right down to the core, the damage so far-reaching even he doesn't know how to fix it.
And then there's Strange, who has his own way of covering the cracks.
Old Bones - CJtheWeeb. (Owch. Dumb geniuses trying to be invulnerable.)
Sometimes Stephen Strange has great days, where he was nearly pain free and his hands still enough to where he could pick up a cup of water and barely spill a drop.
Today was not one of those days.
something taken, something new - meowrails. (So in-character. The premise was a little off to me, but I’m so glad I decided to read this one. I really really like this fic.)
The ChronicConnection implement and app allows a person that lives with chronic or illness-induced pain to transfer their burden temporarily to a willing loved one.
Tony and Stephen sign up as beta testers.
Angsty ones (happy ending unless otherwise mentioned):
day one - days4daisy. (THIS IS SO GOOD OKAY IF YOU READ NOTHING ELSE ON THIS LIST READ THIS).
Three days in Stark Tower. Stephen must be in bad shape if he just agreed to this.
His Merlin - babywarg (morphaileffect). (This author keeps showing up on this list because they are A LEGEND. A LEGEND I TELL YOU.)
As a child, Tony imagined himself a Knight of the Round Table. Little did he know he would grow up to be a king. And that he would have a wizard by his side to lead him to either glory or destruction.
there is no heart for me like yours - turtle_abyss. (Soulmate AU! Wonderful. <3)
Being able to feel your soulmate - a phantom touch, a bone-deep awareness - is a divine torture. To know, but not see. To seek, but not find. To feel someone holding your hand and not be able to hold theirs.
Grace - StrangeMischief. (*cries in beautiful fic* Happy ending!)
“Pain’s an old friend.”
Us...Me - StrangeMischief. (This will hurt you. So melancholy. Pepper and Tony live their life, and Tony remembers. Not a happy ending.)
“I don’t believe in happily ever after.”
One-Thousand Cranes - FriendlyNeighborhoodFangirls. (Self rec, sorry. Hopeful ending.)
After it all, a man with shaking hands makes a wish.
courtesy - deathofglitter. (Dealing with the fourteen-million futures. So good.)
Stark looked at him like he looked at the amulet that rested on his chest like a steady promise - dutiful, a bit burdened, and trying to hold a profound lack of personal emotion whatsoever, still personal enough to protect as anyone would a precious object.
La Douleur Exquise - BananasofThorns, StrangeMischief. (More pain. Pepper and Tony, and Stephen watching and trying not to wish. Very good, no happy ending.)
The before was easy. There were fewer boxes in their minds and no chains around their hearts. There was no hurt. No tears. No dreams.
But those days were long gone.
Stigmata - babywarg (morphaileffect). (AU! Soulmates again. Very interesting, beautifully done.)
Since Stephen was little, mysterious wounds have appeared and disappeared on his body, leaving mysterious scars. His mother says it's because he's one of a Pair, and he's absorbing pain meant for someone else.
*wipes brow* PHEW! That gotta a little more in-depth than I first intended... Have fun, my MysticIron friends. Happy quarantine.

Fall 2020 Anime Season:
Golden Kamuy Season 3 is, so far, just as good as the first two seasons. For anyone unfamiliar with the show, it follows a former soldier called “Immortal Sugimoto” (nicknamed so for his tendency to survive a lot of shit that would kill most people) and a young Ainu (the Japanese equivalent of Native Americans) girl as they search Northern Japan (and even parts of Russia) for hidden Ainu gold. The story is pretty wild, with threats coming from the wildlife and the harsh, snowy conditions as often as from mercenaries, assassins, and various other human dangers. The cast has expanded enough that we have several separate groups of cool, well-written characters roaming about (and they’ve shuffled a bit from season two, making their interactions very interesting). Sugimoto remains one of my favorite anime protagonists. He’s one of the more brutal, violent main characters I’ve seen, but, strangely, also one of the nicest. He’s kind to innocents (both people and animals) but will slaughter his enemies without hesitation. He’s also pretty funny. Then again, almost every character is subject to the show’s weird but endearing humor. It’s very hard to dislike any character, even the ones who are quite cruel. The show is also notable for having a lot of homoerotic subtext. The beefy, handsome men sure do love taking their clothes off and wrestling. Like, taking it ALL off. Multiple times per season. Yeah. Watch this show, everybody.
Ikebukuro West Gate Park is a new show this season that I was initially interested in because it reminded me of Durarara!! in that it’s set in Ikebukuro and features color gangs. That’s where the similarities end, however. Whereas Durarara!! had tons of supernatural elements and just plain craziness, IWGP is more realistic by comparison. The show follows Makoto, a seemingly normal guy who seems to function in a sort of “odd jobs” type of role for a color gang called the G Boys. While they’re a gang, they don’t seem like criminals or thugs, or even delinquents. They really feel more like a club, held together by their respect for the leader referred to as King. So far the series seems to be episodic in nature, with most stand-alone episodes focusing on some sort of social issue, from drug addiction to immigration. It’s interesting to see these issues presented in such a sympathetic light, viewed through the lens of Tokyo’s youth. The art is nice, with varied character designs and animation that’s just good enough that you don’t notice the problems very often. The music is a highlight, with my favorite opening theme of the season and one of the better ending themes.
Magatsu Wahrheit is a show I was very iffy on at first. It has a lot of things working against it. It’s based on a video game I’ve never heard of, the opening theme is one of the cheapest, most unimpressive things I’ve ever seen (note: it does improve a few episodes in!), and the series overall has a low budget feel (though nowhere near as bad as Gibiate from last season). But the story is actually very interesting and very well written. The basic premise is that Young Man A (I’m not remembering these weird names, sorry) works as a delivery truck driver in your usual “modern fantasy” setting (kingdoms and monsters and other medieval fantasy trappings alongside trucks and cars and advanced science laboratories). When he’s loading up his deliveries, Young Man B, a fresh recruit in the kingdom’s military and general goody-two-shoes, randomly offers to help Young Man A load his truck. Young Man B spots some boxes off to the side and, assuming they were part of the load, puts them into the truck while Young Man A is talking to his boss. These boxes turn out to be illegal weapons being smuggled by a group of... freedom fighters? I guess? This, in turn, drags Young Man A into a shit storm of trouble when the illegal weapons are discovered in his truck. It also leads directly to tragedy for Young Man B as well, setting them both on wildly different but similarly dangerous paths. The whole idea that a simple act of kindness for a stranger sets off such a terrible series of events is pretty engaging. As it stands in the show right now, Young Man A is the more compelling character. He’s just a truck driver. He’s a coward who runs from danger and wants no part of any of this. But at the same time, he can be surprisingly brave at times (usually when a child is in danger). In a twist on the usual trope, these spurts of bravery are rarely rewarded. At least twice, his decision to act has led to heartbreaking tragedy. So far Young Man B is your typical “idealistic youth realizing the military isn’t comprised entirely of nice people” type of character. As such, he’s just not as interesting. He hasn’t had as much screen time though, so hopefully he’ll grow as a character. I guess it says a lot that I’ve written so much about the show, and almost all of it is about the plot. But the plot is really the only remarkable thing about it. In this case, that’s enough.
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is, well, a bit of a trainwreck. And I’m not necessarily talking about the quality of the show. Let me explain: The show was marketed as a remake of the 2006 anime, which was one of my all-time favorite series. I was pretty excited about it. Lots of new fans who had never watched the original started this one. The first episode was okay. I wasn’t crazy about how shiny everything looked (I realize the original’s visuals are a bit dated now but at least they were unique, this new one looks like pretty much every harem anime from the past five years) but the story seemed to be doing good and I looooooved the use of the original opening theme song as the closer. Then episode two dropped, and the fandom basically exploded. The first few minutes of episode two reveal that this is not a remake, but a sequel! Shock! At first, I was impressed by this little bit of manipulation. It felt exciting to realize the truth. But then it dawned on me (and the rest of the fandom) that new viewers who came to watch this were screwed over. Those first few minutes of episode two spoil some very important things from the original series (we’re talking major spoilers here), and it’s going to ruin a lot of plot points for those who never watched the original and now want to go back and watch it first. So here’s a PSA: If you’re new to Higurashi and want to try this new series, DON’T unless you’re okay with watching a sequel that spoils the original.
Okay, so now let’s talk about this new series/sequel. First, the good points: The ending theme is GORGEOUS. Just... go watch it. Soak it up. The opening isn’t bad but I can’t help comparing it to the far superior original opening. Aside from the overly shiny and generic character designs, the rest of the visuals are pretty great. The scenery in particular is very nice. In terms of story, I like the idea of beginning each new “arc” by staying close to the original story, then throwing in some pretty wild deviations that make them end in completely different ways because a character that lived through the original is trying to make subtle changes (that so far have ended up turning out very badly). When it comes to the bad points, one in particular sticks out: It’s not scary! The original had some truly unsettling moments, and so far this one hasn’t even been creepy. It’s had some moments that obviously tried to be scary but have failed miserably. For example, the early scenes with Rena in the original were actually terrifying. But I felt none of the intensity or creepiness in this sequel. Still, it’s nice to see these characters again and to see how this story deviates as someone tries desperately to change the outcomes.
Haikyuu!! has another new season and... I don’t really know what to say about it. I’ve talked about this show several times now. Looks like this season is going to focus primarily on one long match, a concept I’m not crazy about. They also made the baffling decision to cut in with a full episode about a rival team’s match right in the middle of showing the match with the main team. I mean I love seeing more of the rival teams but it felt disjointed to do it this way. Still yet, it’s a fun and energetic show full of great characters and easily understood volley ball matches.
Jujutsu Kaisen is probably the most hyped up new show this season, and I would say it definitely deserves that hype. It’s a pretty familiar shounen fighting anime setup: A teenage boy acquires special powers and joins a school to train so that he can use those powers for good. However, following that formula does little to negate just how fun and well-done this series is. A lot of people have compared it to Naruto (the protagonist is a vessel for a powerful entity, he joins a trio of characters with a more serious and moody black-haired boy and a chick, and they have a badass teacher with silver hair who keeps his face partially covered). So sure, it’s like Naruto... except it’s much better than Naruto in every conceivable way. The animation and fight choreography are consistently fantastic. The main character is not the least bit annoying. The only chick in the group (there are more cool ladies in the story, just not in this group!) is a badass in her own right and her story and motivations have absolutely nothing to do with romantic interest in any of the guys. Even the teacher character is incredibly fun. The music is great, with my favorite ending theme of the season. You know it’s an excellent ending theme when people start making different versions of it using characters from other shows. It’s so, well, fun. A word I keep using here, because that’s the first word that comes to mind when I’m watching this series.
Talentless Nana is one of those shows that’s going to be difficult for me to talk about without spoiling a very cool surprise. This surprise comes at the end of episode one (basically, the show makes you think it’s about something, but turns out it’s about something completely different). So if you want to really enjoy that surprise, stop reading this and go watch episode one before coming back. If you’ve already watched it or don’t mind having the surprise spoiled, here we go: The first episode sets up the series to be a cheap Boku no Hero Academia knock-off. We have a school of “talented” (super powered) kids training to use their powers to save humanity from (so far) unseen monsters referred to as “the enemies of humanity”. We are told one boy has no “talent” or special power and he’s ridiculed for this. There’s a new transfer student named Nana, a super sweet and cheerful girl with pink hair who has the ability to read minds. There’s also another transfer student, a sullen and quiet boy named Kyouya who hasn’t disclosed what his “talent” is. With that setup, I think a lot of people were ready to dismiss it as “BNHA, but not as good”. But then, a few minutes before the first episode ends, we’re hit with the twist that reveals what this show is really about: Nana is the one with no “talent”. She lied about being able to read minds (the boy we thought had no talent did actually have one). She’s a totally normal human being, and she has been sent to infiltrate the school and kill off the students, the true “enemies of humanity” (called so because their powers make them incredibly dangerous). Thus, the show is about a normal human girl using only her wits and skill in manipulation to kill off super-powered individuals. Watching her work is an absolute delight. She is ruthless and incredibly intelligent, but she does have one major problem: the other transfer student Kyouya, who is at least as smart as she is and is suspicious of her right off the bat. But since he’s not sure she’s up to no good, he can’t really act on his suspicions. Nana in turn knows he suspects her, so she has to be careful around him. As a result, the two become “friends”, constantly watching and outmaneuvering each other. In this way, the series reminds me of the early, best parts of Death Note, with the mental sparring between Light and L. But the most fun you’ll have with this show is watching Nana come up with ways to deal with each new “talent” she comes across, from the ability to time travel to necromancy, all while having no special power of her own. The art is nice, a bit generic, nothing too fancy. The music is great, with one of the better opening themes this season.
Moriarty the Patriot focuses on the classic Sherlock antagonist Professor Moriarty. Let me get this out of the way first: I know next to nothing about Sherlock. I haven’t even watched any of the various tv shows about him. What I know of the character basically comes from mentions of him in Detective Conan. So I’m coming into this series with no preconceived notions about these characters and no other versions to compare them to. Anyway, Moriarty as a series is about class warfare. Moriarty as a character pretty much embodies the phrase “eat the rich”. If you’re familiar with the phrase and understand its meaning, you’ll probably like this show. Moriarty works as a professor, but his side job is as a “Crime Consultant”. He helps the poor lower classes get revenge on the cruel nobles and elites who have wronged them. This revenge most often involves murder. There’s something refreshing about how unapologetic it is. In most anime, the hero tries to find other ways to punish evil than by actually killing them, or there’s some lesson involved about how revenge isn’t the answer or how killing someone who wronged you makes you as bad as them. In this series, there’s absolutely none of that. People get their revenge and, so far as I’ve watched, seem to be living much happier lives afterwards. In this way the show totally avoids being preachy. The art is gorgeous, with classy character designs and lovely backgrounds. There’s a certain lushness to it. The music is very nice as well (particularly that poppy ending theme). The only downside is that this has probably ruined me for watching other versions of these characters now. I mean, once you see them as sexy anime pretty boys, it’s hard to see them as anything else.

On that note, this book will contain swearing, mentions of rape and torture. I will try not be explicit but that's really relative. Read at your own risk. There will be warning before if I make a explicit scene so that you can skip it.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy and don't hunt me down for this.

---------------------------------------------
Another day she had needed to spend with the idiots in her class. Once again, she felt like cursing her parents.
Marinette was by all means done with Lycée, she was following University courses but after Tom and Sabine had disowned her in all but name, it's not like they knew that. Most of her old relations had no idea what she was up to and it suited her not seeing them ever again.
But despite everything, the Dupain-Chengs she didn't consider herself one anymore did to her, they still didn't want her to dishonour their family even more so they made an arrangement with her and her Lycée.
She had to at least show up for the exams and any school functions and they would leave her alone to do as she pleased instead of sending her to a boarding school and well with all her responsibilities, she never really had a choice.
Which brought her here - on the Gotham Field Trip. She really didn't know why they had even sent her here, they were only wasting their money and Sabine must have known that the chances of her meeting Bruce were high, especially since their activities were centered around Wayne Enterprises.
Today they were going to be assigned to one person they had to shadow all day - it was supposed to help them get some actual job experience.
Marinette was chosen to shadow the CEO - how surprising - and it just so happened that today was one of the rare days Bruce Wayne was in the company so she would have the pleasure of helping both him and Tim depending on who needed her most - yay her.
She was willing bet her future fashion empire that Bruce had orchestrated this in an attempt to get a chance to talk to her.
However she had to admire that one good thing come out of this - Lila Rossi got served.
Like she had mentioned it before, she didn't have anything to do with her past classmates except the bare minimum but it seemed even now the liar still felt threatened by her every time they met. And honestly, she couldn't care less except that wench was the reason her parents had turned against her and of course how could we forget the worse thing of all? That Lila Rossi was willingly working with Hawkmoth - a known terrorist.
So the jobs had been announced and Lila has started her usual act and name dropping and oh there must have been a mistake, Timothy told me that I would be chosen to work with him since I'm already used to helping him. That had received a sharp look from the one delegating and a simple comment about Miss Rossi you are to report to our legal team, they have something prepared especially for you. Seeing Lie-La pale and shut up so yeah that had been the highlight of her day.
But now, now she was most certainly going to be forced to speak to her father and she kind of wished that Lila had succeeded for once.
Just as the lady she had grown to like was about to show her the way, her father magically appeared not really, she had seen him hiding in the shadows for the last five minutes and offered to guide her himself.
As she predicted, he said nothing else, until they were in his office but once the doors were closed…
"Mari-" He started to speak but then the doors banged open and a haggard looking Tim Drake stumbled in.
"Nette, I heard I got you today. Thank fuck I didn't get one of the brats." He stumbled in on the couch, paying Bruce no mind and grinned at her. "Plus, I get sister bonding time so win-win for me."
Marinette looked from him to Bruce. "You have impeccable timing." She informed him. "So I'm going to make you coffee."
"You are an angel." He declared. "An absolute angel. Now I understand why Damian likes you so much."
Marinette laughed it off. "Damian likes me because I don't call him Demon Spawn Timbers."
"In my defense." He groaned. "He was a brat back then and now, well it's basically a nickname. Call it brother's privilege if you want. And he knows it."
Marinette smiled gently at him as she placed a cup of coffee in front of him and Bruce, and sat down drinking her own cup. "Does he know that?"
Tim blinked at her, a thoughtful expression taking place on his face.
It lasted until he tasted the coffee, then it was replaced by awe.
"This is so good, how is this so good, it's literally the same thing I drink everyday? Can you work for me permanently?"
She was amused and this conversation seemed to shock her father so it was a plus. "But Timmy, if I change my career how are you going to get your special MDC suits?"
That strangely made him go serious.
"About that, I needed to talk to you."
Marinette raised an eyebrow, this should be good.
"What would you think if Wayne Enterprises becomes the main sponsor for MDC?"
She leant back in her seat crossing her feet and took a long sip of her drink.
"Now why would I agree to that?"
Tim looked surprised while she was careful to keep her own face carefully blank but he recovered quick enough and seemed to thrive on the challenge.
Marinette could pinpoint the exact moment when he changed to his game face. "Why wouldn't you? This in the long term will benefit you especially when you decide to release your line or officially start your company."
"Who said anything about releasing a line? Right now I'm on a clientele only basis and the greatest thing about MDC right now is my anonymity. My business is flourishing and I'm on high demand, especially among celebrities so you can imagine the price I get for each of my works. Why would I want to change that?"
"While that is true, the novelty will eventually wash off. Your designs may be good enough for you to get some loyal customers but you won't be as you put it in high demand anymore. And I may have known you for only a while, but I doubt you haven't planned for the future."
Marinette could admit, she was a little impressed. "Also true, but I'm currently a millionaire and have more than enough money to launch a line by myself."
Tim opened his mouth to interrupt but she continues before he could.
"And yes, I do understand how accepting your offer will benefit me more but signing with you also means that will represent my brand and how can I - bearing my own interests in mind - accept knowing is publicly involved with Wayne Enterprises?"
He looked completely lost and Marinette was probably having more fun that she should with this. "I'm not sure I follow?"
"I mean that even if people don't outright state it, everyone knows that the Wayne finances and outfits the Gotham vigilantes."
"And your point is?" The poor boy was going to make her say it.
"Your costumes are a fashion disaster Timmy, an eyesore if not a horror?"
"They're not that bad!"
"Do not get me started on the first Robin's costume. Were you not in your right mind when you allowed it?" For the first time in the day, she spoke to Bruce.
"Wait, you know?" She shot Tim a questioning look. Why hadn't told him, she figured it out? The boy just shrugged and she sighed.
"It's not that difficult to figure out Bats. You and Mom literally met while you training in extreme martial arts and the way she described you doesn't match up with the idea the media has of you so I was already suspicious and then I met them and I saw them in costume, they have the same build and everything and their alibi was frankly terrible. Also the rate at which you take in kids matches with the appearance of each new Robin."
"When was the last time you got your IQ tested?" He demanded.
Marinette elected to ignore that comment in favour of finishing her conversation with Tim. "So?"
"So if I get everyone to agree to a costume redesign by you, you'll sign?"
"I get to re-design and remake all of your costumes as well as become the go to for the family for all your events."
"That's a lot of conditions."
She shrugged, a smile playing on her lips. "Those are my terms but if you'd like, you can consider the part about your costumes a favor to you sister so that she doesn't get a heart attack everytime she sees you suited up."
"I'll agree as long as you admit you're exaggerating."
Marinette gave him a deadpan look. "Have you ever seen the Red Hood helmet. I have nightmares about it."
He considered it. "Yeah okay that's fair. So should I start working on the papers?"
Marinette shook her head. "I'm going to rebrand once and for all once I'm 18 along with my face reveal."
"Rebrand, why?"
"Like you rightly pointed out two nights ago MDC stands for Marinette Dupain-Cheng. Well I don't want to be a Dupain-Cheng for longer than I have to. I'll be changing my name hence the rebranding."
"Would you consider Wayne?" Bruce asked softly. Marinette paused. She had been considering taking Master Fu's name actually. "I don't know B."
"I'll leave you two to talk." Tim said slowly getting up and she would have protested but she could not run from this forever and the Kwami pressing against her leg seemed to agree.
"Yeah just…" She took out her phone and send him a contact. "That's my lawyer, you can send her the papers to review. I'll talk to her about it."
Tim checked his phone and went slack jawed. "Elle Woods. Elle Woods is your lawyer." He threw his hands up in defeat. "I don't know why I'm still surprised at this point but I'm gonna ask, how did you get her to work for you?"
"She's one of my regulars. "
"Of course she is." Tim muttered. Marinette watched silently as he went to refill his cup of coffee but ended up taking the whole coffee machine with him and walked out of the door.
Marinette turned to Bruce. She was not looking forward to this but she sighed and got up. "I'm supposed to be working so give me something to do."
"I thought you agreed we need to talk Marinette."
"I never agreed to anything." She reminded him. "But yes we'll talk." She pointed a finger at him. "While I work. So, give me something to do."
"You need this to be on your terms." He noted.
"I know you've researched what happened. After having been stripped from my senses and having my will taken away from me, yes I do enjoy being in control." She dared him to say something. "So. Give. Me. Something. To. Do."
"You can arrange the paper on the desk. According to the project names, put it in alphabetical order with A being on top."
Marinette set to work without another word. Bruce took that as his cue to start speaking.
"You know about Batman. The year I stopped talking to you was when when I was assumed dead-"
"Then why?" She cut in sharply. "Did Alfred not even deign inform me that my father was dead? Or what about after you came back?"
He stayed silent.
"The truth B is that even before that you were speaking to me less and less. Your phone calls, rare as they were, were always so short I was never able to tell you what i wanted." She gave out a humorless laugh. "You know I used to be scared that you didn't want me. I mean why else would you keep me a secret from your other children? So I didn't complain because I didn't want to stop having the little time you even gave to me. Guess, I was right in the end."
"No." He stood up and came to stand in front of her. "Marinette sweetie, please believe me. I fell in love with you from the moment I saw you. I've never not wanted you but my lifestyle was always very dangerous but I never realised how much it really was until Jason died and then shortly after I returned Damian died. Every child of mine has been traumatized in some way by my enemies. I didn't want the same to happen to you. There are villains out there who know who I am. I got scared Marinette, distancing myself from you was me trying to protect you. I know - I know it doesn't excuse me not being there for you but you need to know I am so so sorry. Please let me make it up to you. "
Marinette felt the kwamis on her person press against her, offering their silent support.
"I'm willing to try." She said at last, finishing arranging the last of the documents. She looked up at him and could basically read the hope in his expression. "But you need to give me space. I'm not coming to live in Gotham nor am I going to defer to you. I've built my own life, you're not going to interfere with in. You can be in it but you don't get to try and change things."
"Okay, okay I can work with that."
"Then you've got yourself a deal." Marinette offered him her hand to shake and he did shake it but right after, he pulled her in a hug.
Bruce realized his mistake when Marinette stiffened up but she relaxed in his arms and she slowly, almost hesitantly clutched his shirt, like a small child holding their dad's shirt, trying to hide in his arms.
And a father's heart broke all over again.

Ib and Ff7
FF7 is under the cut bc I Had Some Thoughts about it, and I am so sorry.
Ib:
Favorite thing about that game: I was NOT expecting to end up as emotionally invested as I got after like, a handful of minutes playing it? Like it's a little indie rpg maker game and yet it's honestly one of the most impactful games I've ever played.
Least favorite thing about that game: The motion controls are a bit wonky which like, small indie rpg maker game mechanics are to blame, but it made getting out of the mini-maze hell when I was on my "I have to save Garry" run.
Favorite character in that game: Garry, I've never gotten so attached to a fictional character in such a short amount of time only to be BETRAYED by my own choices, resulting in him being dead and in a painting for my first ending.
Would I recommend it? Why? Yes yes yes, it's free, it's fun, and it only takes like, 30 minutes to play.
Free space to go off about something! Despite Mary being the antagonist and responsible for Garry's death in several endings, I do feel a bit bad for her and wish there was an ending where Ib could like, save both Garry and Mary. It doesn't make much sense for the overall mood of the story, but still.
Rating out of 10: 9/10, good game overall, strong narrative, slightly wonky controls, excellent soundtrack, endearing aesthetics.
FF7:
Favorite thing about that game: It has a really interesting plot and cast of characters, and just a really strong narrative overall. Getting into all the extended compilation stuff was easy because the initial game experience left me wanting to explore more. The Remake does a really good job integrating a lot of this extended lore into...whatever the Remake's narrative is trying to do.
Least favorite thing about that game: The fandom--Okay, for real though, in the original game I hated Aerith's death. Like, yes, from a story perspective as the player because she was one of my favorite characters, but I actually think that was strong writing for the narrative development. What I mean is that mechanically it was a hideous decision because it leaves this gaping hole in the game. Maybe the player was using her and now has to try and get a character they weren't used to using up to level speed with Cloud and whoever else they were using for their main battle party, and that's just frustrating from a player perspective, but also when she leaves she takes everything except the materia she was carrying with her and the player looses access to that entirely for the rest of the game, but can still purchase her staffs and stuff from in-game vendors? Like, knowing this now what's the point of using her at all for the first part of the game? There's literally no point in leveling her up when I could use the exp for someone else, and there's no reason to buy her any good equipment because her most powerful staff is in the last dungeon you can use her in and you could give her any throwaway bracelet because you're going to lose it anyway. It literally makes no sense from a mechanic standpoint and I hate it because the original game's mechanics are already wonky (although that wasn't entirely rare for that era's jrpgs) but then just having this mechanical gap appear halfway through the game just messes things up even more. The original FF7 game has a lot going on in it, but because there's so much I feel it lacks the sort of polish it could have had, and I especially feel that Aerith's death just made the lackluster mechanics feel more insulting. However, the Remake has so far done a fair job of balancing the party mechanics so that even if the writers do decide to kill off Aerith again, I don't think there will be the mechanical gap that the original game suffered from because the Remake is much more mechanically balanced and well-designed.
Favorite character in that game: Aerith and Tifa, even when I was playing through the original game with it's really wonky writing (or localization, maybe), I just liked them a lot. Aerith breaks a lot of the "jrpg squishy healer girl narrative's heart" tropes I've come to expect, and Tifa had a lot of depth stemming from all that was going on in her personal character arc, and I really appreciated the writing for both. The Remake's kept the momentum and added even more details that make me love these two even more. Special mention goes to Nanaki (Red XIII) because would it wouldn't be a game series I've been obsessed with if I didn't love one of the characters the main writing team loves to ignore.
Would I recommend it? Why? Y...yes? I mean, sort of. Like my very long rant shows, I'm not actually a fan of the mechanics of the original game, and that's saying a lot since I actually love a lot of old game's for their wonky mechanics. But like, I had a hard time figuring out the internal logic and battle systems, and I'm still not even sure what healing magic scales off of right now, or the most effective use of materia and other items to their maximum effect, which is something I usually pride myself for knowing in jrpgs. The story is really interesting, but there's also a lot of plot gaps that sometimes get explored in extended lore but were never hinted at in the original narrative (like, when I found out that Tseng and Rufus not only survived their "this character very much just got killed on screen" deaths, but got quasi-redemption arcs, I was so, so confused). Also the general pacing is really weird, like the Midgar section sets up the Turks as being Really Serious antagonists, but then they just. End up being comic relief for the rest of the game, and slightly annoying boss fights. Rufus gives this really dramatic speech about how he's going to be a tyrant who rules by fear and then spends the rest of the game Not Doing That, instead chasing after Sephiroth and failing and then dying but not really dying bc as I noted, that got retconned. Hojo is literally one of the most evil characters in the story and the root of almost every issue, but you also get directions from him on a beach surrounded by girls in sexy (for PS1 era graphics) swimsuits, and it's like, why? So like, the original is decent and has a lot of interesting points, and the ost is amazing, but the mechanics are wonky and the actual plot flow is...weird. So like, if you just want to know the story, watch a playthrough, but if you want the challenge of the wacky mechanics (which I know damn well people have figured out and made incredibly strong end-game teams), then go ahead and play it yourself. As for the Remake, I would suggest at least watching the original game to get to know the narrative to better understand how the Remake is changing the direction of the story, but also like, I'd recommend it just because it's plain fun, the mechanics are pretty easy to pick up, the ost is still amazing, and the narrative is even more rich. I would suggest a handful of things from the extended compilation works to better enjoy some of the Remake additions (i.e. the novel where Kyrie and Leslie first appeared as characters, they're both actually super amazing and the Remake only skims the surface with them), but like, it's not necessary for the overall enjoyment of the Remake.
Free space to go off about something! I've gone off about enough already, but I would suggest avoiding the fandom if you're interesting in getting into the game because there's so much petty arguing over shipping nonsense and what is or isn't canon, like, it's not the most toxic fandom I've ever seen but it's not what I'd call fun either. Would fully recommend the entire compilation though, I really loved all the novels/short stories, and even just watching playthroughs of the games related to FF7 was so much fun and added so much depth to the world and characters. Would recommend Advent Children, but only after playing/watching the original game and reading at least On a Way To a Smile (and additionally reading The Kids Are Alright for the Complete version of the movie) because nothing in the movie makes any damned sense otherwise.
Rating out of 10: Original game is 6/10, and the Remake is 9/10

I feel so conflicted about Timmy. I loved the sweet, humble guy he was, but now he acts like the biggest diva, going to fashion shows, only hanging out with famous people. I miss the old Timmy, what I see now I don't like. And I don't like that he left earlier and didn't care about Armie, but can stop rehearsing to show his face at fashion weeks. I feel at the beginning it was only about his talent, now it's more about his fashion choices. I don't want to hate, I just feel different about him.
Tumblr media
Me @ everyone who will read this answer : Please be kind?
Seriously, just be kind. That’s not a question, just be kind.
More important, unless you’re Nonny and looking for an answer of mine you really don’t have to read all of that. It’s mostly an observation on how Timmy’s career and image is handled right now and nothing groundbreaking at all. There a little bit about his relationship with Armie towards the end. Honestly even you, Nonny, you weren’t probably asking for an answer this long. I just love to hear myself thought, apparently. Sorry if it’s boring as hell for you 😅
I choose to believe that this ask isn’t coming from a wickedness place and doesn’t want to be mean. That’s the main reason why I’m answering this ask, instead of deleting it.
The second reason is because I’ve been contemplating the same kind of questions and the same kind of issues about Timmy for a while now. And since I’m now mostly at peace with all of it, and with the way I see him, I thought it could be interesting to share around that.
By sharing my view on how things are at this moment, I don’t want to invalidate your feelings, dear Nonny (or anyone who feels the same way). Like I said, I understand where they come from. I only hope that, by reading a different point of view, you’ll managed to feel a little bit less conflicted and maybe go back to enjoy some Timmy content like you used to. I hope I won’t sound to harsh or anything. This isn’t my intention at all.
I think the most important thing to remember is that 99% of what we see of Timmy is work. The work of an actor is not only acting. Especially when you have the ambition to become and to stay the kind of actor Timmy wants to be. Every time you see him at a public event, he’s working. Networking is working. Existing in the media eyes is working. Attending as fashion shows is working. That doesn’t mean that, in the case of fashion show for example, Haider isn’t also his friend. Of course they’re friends and of course he’s also showing support for his friend’s work. But it’s also a work relationship. That’s why it needs to be public. Haider is the one dressing him for the premieres of his movies. Haider is one of those who helped build his fashion reputation. Being seen together and publicly supporting each other work, it’s good for both of them, professionally speaking. What I mean is, when you see Tim at a fashion show or at a Hollywood party, it’s not free time for him. It’s a scheduled event on his work schedule. So when you said that he stops rehearsing to go to fashion show, that’s not entirely true. Firstly because it’s on week-end. Secondly, it would be like saying that he stops acting to do promo. Both things are work. Attending to Haider’s fashion show is also work.
Beside the London-Paris journey is hardly an effort. It would take me almost the same amont of time to go to Paris using public transports and I’m living like really close to Paris. And beside bis Timmy has seen SWM within the window of two days that was allowed by his work schedule so it’s not like he has never managed to make things work for Armie either.
For me, the problem is that Timmy has three jobs at the moment. He’s ‘one of the best actor of his generation’, the ‘most influential man in fashion’ and ‘a heartthrob for teenagers and young adults’. I’m phrasing things this way on purpose, because it shows how much weighs on him at the moment. All of this means a lot of expectations on him, a lot of judgements but also a lot of money depending on him. Even if all of his current statuts has been happening in a more or less natural way (he’s one of the best actor of his generation because he’s good at acting, his interest for fashion seems genuine and… well… He’s damn cute so of course he’s a teenage dream), my main concern is the fact that, right now, his public image is handled to encourage these three status at the same time. As long as his acting career is doing fine, it’s not a problem. If his acting career starts to be on the skids, or if one of his parts on a movie is suddenly having very bad reviews, the whole world will start to look at him and at his fashion/heartthrob statuts with different eyes.
But that moment hasn’t happened yet so I think it’s unfair to call him out on that now. He has shown nothing but hard work on the acting part of his career, and he has great things aligned for the next year. He’s a lead on the Dune remake by Denis Villeneuve, he’s starring on a Wes Anderson movie, he has that Bob Dylan thing who he seems really committed to and he’s about to do a run of a promising play. I think his choice on going back to theater, where everything is about acting, is really relevant of how focused is still he’s on acting.
I think it’s also interesting to notice the timing. For the past two years, Timmy has always been disappearing around that time of the year. So much that the Timmy drought has become a thing in the fandom. In the past, Timmy has expressed his need of disappearing and ‘going back in the mud’, both literally and figuratively, after being exposed to public eyes at this extend and for a long period of time. Truth is, I believe that Timmy is not allowed to disappear anymore. I don’t think you’re allowed to disappear for a while when Legendary Pictures is betting a lot amount of money on your pretty face. Because to disappear means media and social media will talk less about you and, in this industry, if people stop talking about you it basically means you’re dead.
So he can’t disappear. But somehow he found a way to focus on acting through theater, even if he has to do it in front of the public eyes. To be honest, I think it’s the least bad solution. I think the need to disappear for him (or anyone for that matter) for a decent period of time is really crucial for mental health and he hasn’t had this opportunity for a while, and I’m afraid he won’t have it either for the near future. Don’t get me wrong, I love that he’s doing theater again. I love having the opportunity to see him live perform I just wish he has a little bit more time to stay off the radar before going back for a whole year of craziness.
I understand that it can be frustrating to feel like most of the talks about him are about something else than his roles or his movies or his acting skills. Like I said, it’s part because of his/his team’s fault because they’ve been feeding the talk so it can keep going and going. It’s also part because the world works this way and is superficial as hell. Movie talks last a few months with the pre-promo/the premieres/the actually promo. A little bit more if you’re lucky enough to get nominations and awards. Then it becomes old news. Timmy’s persona exists every day. He’s doing and wearing new things every day and people are always more excited by what’s new. And the media will keep on using anything to have him as click-bait. It’s a win-win situation for both sides.
Except you never know when people are going to switch. One day they keep on waiting more and more of someone and the next day, they already grew tired of thi person. It’s been too much. They over did it. I sometimes use a tag that say something like « when can we say that too much is too much? » to react to what people and media sometimes do/write/say about Timmy to express this kind of feeling. Of course Tim and his team can’t control everything that is being said about him but I believe that the decisions they made in the past year? year and an half? have lead to this kind of craziness. This makes me think of that french paper, which was basically saying ‘why don’t we stop to consider Timmy as a kitten and make a fuss of everything he did and why don’t we start focusing on how he acts, because that is the real interesting thing to talk about.
Despite everything I can’t hold all of this too-much-ness against him when he’s still working so hard on his roles. I can’t blame him when I think of him giving so much on himself in that before-the-battle speech in The King that I want to go fight with and for him. I can’t blame him when I see him giving so much of himself for Laurie that he’s making me laugh and melt in the middle of a cinema room full of people when I’m usually pretty stoic in public. I just can’t blame him when I hear him talk about Dune and being so excited that he literally can’t stop himself for bouncing on his chair. I just can’t.
What I can do is not not pay attention to everything. I know it’s not an easy thing to do on tumblr and on social media when he’s everywhere and people are retweeting and reblogging the same things over and over again but if I’m not interested, I try to not pay attention. Back during CMBYN and BB era, I think I was looking at and reading everything. I’ve stopped shortly after. I didn’t read the article you’re referring to, for example. Because what’s Timmy is wearing interests me but not the shallow and irrelevant articles people will write about it. Most of them will say the same thing, that it’s Timothée Chalamet world now and us peasants are just humbly living on it. It’s going to be said over and over again until something newer, younger comes along. It’s ok. Being a teenage heartthrob will pass. Being the most influential man in fashion will probably also pass. I mean his fashion choices will probably keep on arousing interest but the world is going to catch up. Eventually.
But acting will stay.
And if in the meantime, he manages to enjoy a little bit of more superficial things and take a shot or two of confidence along the way without regretting too many decisions he made, I say why not let him do that? It’s not like we have a word to say anyway.
I understand what you mean about missing him being sweet and humble even if I disagree with you. I’m not saying that he’s not sweet and humble anymore but I felt something shift between the BB era and TK era. It’s also frustrating because it’s more a feeling than something I can prove or explain. I just don’t think he’s changed, I think he’s a little bit more guarded than before. And if I look at things from an human perspective, it makes sense?
The more people are watching me, irl or online, the more I’m going to be cautious about things I said and how I behave. The more guarded I’ll be. And in my case, we’re only talking about dozens from a few hundreds tops of people tops. Can you imagine living your life in front of millions people? I’d put some distance and some defenses between me and the world as well. He has to if he wants to survive.
We’ve been lucky to have witnessed something as precious and rare as what we have witnessed during the CMBYN and a little bit during the BB era. It was something beautiful but it wasn’t meant to last. Not in the same kind of proportions anyway.
So I don’t think Timmy is acting like the biggest diva. Like I’ve said, what we see of his life is 99% work-related and we see about 10% of his time? Less of that?
Like for example, he’s been in London for what? 10-12 days now? And if I’m not mistaking, we haven’t seen him anywhere except from fans meeting him briefly outside of the theater and him picking up food? Whatever he’s doing, if he has a wild life or if he’s in bed at 9pm every night, he’s being discreet about it. Like he’s always been discreet about his private life, his close friends and his family. Just because he’s discreet about it doesn’t mean he doesn’t see them — old friends and people who aren’t famous. He just doesn’t feel the need to post their face on social media or meeting them in front of paparazzis.
Of course if I wanted to see him as a diva, I could. I’d look at him wearing sunglasses inside and declare that he’s a diva. When there could be thousands of reasons for him to wear sunglasses inside. I wouldn’t surprise me to learn that flashes during fashion week are painful for the eyes, especially for people with color eyes as light as Timmy’s. Especially if you’re tired. Or hangover. Or maybe he’s just thinking of sunglasses as an integral part of his outfit. Like shoes or socks or jewelry or backpacks. Or maybe he just feel safer that way and it helps his anxiety. I tried wearing sunglasses all day long at a couple of occasions when I was particularly tired and it was kind of amazing. Plus it allows you to avoid eye contact with humans which is also amazing.
I wanted to touch a little bit on the fashion topic before moving on to the Armie one. I’m guessing you’re not really passionate or fond of fashion. It’s ok. You’re allowed to and fashion and haute couture don’t do much to help themselves. Or didn’t do much. I guess things are slowly changing like everywhere else. But there are a lot of ego, of superficiality, a lot of changes and improvements that could be made. A friend who has worked for designers and still work in the fashion industry once told me that the industry wouldn’t be that bad if designers stop acting like they were saving the world with their clothes. My point is, just because something has a reputation, doesn’t mean every person who takes part of this thing has the same reputation. There are people in fashion who are truly passionate about what they’re doing and teach you things about fashion that make you look at clothes as wearable pieces of art. Because when you look closely at haute couture, you can see that fashion can take its influences in architecture, sculpture, painting and in many many others artistic disciplines. It has its own history, its own revolutions, its own movements. It tells something about our time and ourselves as a society. All of that goes without even mentioning the close relationship between fashion, high fashion and movies, which I’m sure is very interesting from a Timmy perspective. (I swear I wrote all of that before reading the Dazed itw. Like pinky swear).
At this point, Timmy could have a seat in the first row for every fashion show of every brand. He could attend to all of them, with a different outfit for each, make a show every time and take all the clothes that designers would sell their cat to see him wearing. He doesn’t. He shows up for about two designers and communicate about one more and that’s all. It’s work. Something related to his red carpet premieres. It’s fun and something he uses to express himself and his personality. I think he said something in the Dazed interview among these lines. That fashion is fun but is main focus in on acting.
Here :
“With the development of my career, I also slowly entered the fashion industry. I can feel that fashion and movies are similar to a certain extent. For me, participating in a movie or wearing a suit is about the people I work with, not the brand or money. That's why I keep working with Haider and Virgil. I also maintain good relationships with many brands, but I will not be overly tied to fashion for this. Because my career is an actor, my dream is to be an actor, and I am very satisfied and very happy to be an actor.”
Regarding of Armie… Honestly I’m kind of tired of the debate. Because I’m tired of what the debate says about how we see relationships these days, without even talking about Armie and Timmy.
I’m still trying to understand at which point we has started to need public proofs of private relationships. Likes, Facebook statuts, pictures shared publicly, couple selfies… I mean what the point? How have we become so insecure about relationships and ourselves that we’re now feeling the need to share proofs of private relationships with the whole world to believe it? And to the point that we are now projecting our own insecurities on relationships of others? It makes absolutely no sense to me.
If I wasn’t talking with/seeing my close ones for a whole year or a whole decade for whatever reason, they would still be my close ones. I believe the same thing about Armie and Timmy. Except these two idiots seems to be talking to each other all the time and seeing each other pretty regularly. But because Armie isn’t about work anymore, we don’t have to see it.
Over the past four years, they’ve done nothing but showing and saying how much they care about each other and know about each other and how much they’re still close. Timmy literally said I love you to Armie in a damn public speech. Name me another person for whom he said that. The three words, plane and simple.
If you’re willing to believe that liking each other post on social media or showing up at a public events or pose in front of photographers are better proofs of closeness that what they’ve been doing so far, that says something about how you see relationships, not about how they really are.
Loving someone is not always about rubbing it off publicly for everyone to see. More often than not, loving someone is about answering your phone in the middle of the night, because the person you love and care about can’t sleep or is on another time zone and needs you. That something you can show off on social media or get papped. And maybe we need to start to believe that it’s even more valuable exactly because of that.

So like, not a question but i see there's drama (as always lmao) about this current season of druck so i wanted to bring my worthless 2 cents. I was super into the og skam, so i totally get the being hypercritical of every supposed flaw every clip has; i still, to this day, have nightmares about sana's season. since that experience ultimately brought more anxiety than anything (again, i get it) I swore to myself I wouldnt get as involved in the remakes 1/4
And i've mostly stuck to it, dipping in here and there for the gay stuff. So feel free to ignore this, but I just wanted to say that as a (mostly) casual watcher, this season of druck has so far been the best remake i've watched so far; fatou is SUCH a fresh character and her season is actually quite clear about what the themes it's set out to touch are and they are new and important and im sure they will have a satisfying conclusion 2/4
I think, as skam fans, we're used to criticising a season on a set checklist based on what we've been used to getting in previous seasons and our own expectations and theories and we are so used to getting spoiled with brilliant, innovative content that we can’t help but overanalyse every little thing comparing it to the unattainable level of perfection that we expect from the franchise as a whole (except for skamfr, which… eh not for me) 3/4
But from my privileged (i guess?) distanced pov, every season is beautiful and every season is imperfect and I think it’s important to try to enjoy this frankly unprecedented content (yo 2 queer, multifaceted wocs hello??) the in real time experience and leave the final verdict for later, when it’s over and all the cards are on the table and we’ve gained some perspective. So yeah, i guess ‘please chill’ is what i wanted to say i think bye 4/4
Hey 😁 YES, anon, YES! Thank you for sending this! I agree so much! I don't really know what's going on with this season fandom wise, because it is following the same Skam formula in the way that the main has problems, and the LI is a bit shady at the beginning of the season, and you don't really know what's really going on with them. Which is why I'm baffled by some people's reactions, because in that way it's not different than any other Skam that I'm assuming most of these people have watched before...
Yet, there is something so refreshing about Fatou and this season. Not only is it incredible to see a black lesbian main, but also that the love interest is a woc too! This season is affecting me like no other Skam has before. As soon as I get a notification, I'm like 'oh my goodness. What's happening? I have to find out now!'😁 My heart beats out my chest when I go on to watch any new clip!
I think Sira is doing such a good job. I'm enjoying as well that Fatou's issues (although issues are very individualistic, and you can't tier them into levels of seriousness as they effect people differently), I am enjoying how Fatou's problems are a little less intense in some ways than other mains. It gives the season a calming aura, I really love just watching her with the fish, and Maike. This season is so comforting to me, as well as the usual stress😅 But I think few mains have been as soothing as Fatou.
You are so right that people need to stop being so critical of every detail when we are literally just getting to episode 5. If people still have issues after the whole season, fine, it's all a matter of opinion. But people are judging things you know are going to be resolved by the end

Turnabout Toilet Brush
Fandom: Ace Attorney Pairings: Wrightworth, background Klapollo Wordcount: 12196
AO3 FFN
Summary: Phoenix, with no ulterior motives whatsoever, calls a meeting to resolve an office dispute. Apollo and Athena, meanwhile, try to solve a few office mysteries, like why Phoenix is suddenly so insistent on not using their powers in the workplace.
More importantly: who broke the damn toilet brush?
***
"I think we can all agree," Phoenix began, fingers steepled in front of his face, "that things have gotten out of hand."
The three of them had gathered around his desk, which he'd finally cleaned off for the occasion. Apollo and Athena slouched in front of the desk, both looking like sulky students who'd been called to the principal's office, while Phoenix had managed to maneuver the agency's best chair behind the desk for the first time in years. In the center of the desk's polished wooden surface sat one toilet brush, snapped in half at the handle.
Apollo glowered off to the side, arms folded across his chest, probably thinking nostalgically of the time he'd punched Phoenix in the face. Athena, meanwhile, looked perfectly calm, but Widget's worried expression and the way her fingers toyed with her ponytail told a different story. Neither said a word as Phoenix stared them down.
Fine, guess I'll have to move things along myself. Phoenix never liked having to bring out serious boss mode, but desperate times called for desperate measures.
He drew the Magatama out of his pocket, placing it on the desk between them. "We need to talk about the use of powers in the office."
***
(One day earlier...)
"Mr. Wright, whose turn is it to clean the toilets?" Athena asked.
It was a slow morning for the agency. Apollo sat at his desk, concentrating hard on something on his computer that was almost certainly not work-related, while Athena lounged on one of the couches, flipping through a handful of court documents. Phoenix, meanwhile, relaxed on the other couch, enjoying coffee and quiet as he read through the morning's news.
"Apollo," Phoenix said, without looking up from his newspaper. He wasn't sure, but the answer was usually Apollo.
"What?" Apollo said, spinning around in his chair to face them. "No way! It was my turn last week!"
Phoenix sipped his coffee. "Oh, sorry. Must be Athena's."
Athena's cry of outrage was almost as loud as Apollo's chords of steel. "Wait, no! I definitely remember cleaning them last week! I was only asking so Apollo would remember to do his job!"
Phoenix shrugged. "I don't know, then. Does anyone know where the schedule is?"
"Trucy used it in another one of her magic tricks." Apollo groaned.
"Hey!" Trucy sat perched on top of Phoenix's desk, shuffling and reshuffling a pack of cards. She'd told Phoenix she wanted to learn more card tricks, and had been obsessively honing her technique ever since. "It's not my fault you wrote the schedule on the back of one of my props."
"You didn't have to burn it!" Apollo countered.
"I didn't know what it was! Your handwriting is terrible!" Trucy shuffled a little too vigorously, sending all her cards onto the floor. "Anyway, I don't know what you're talking about. I would never do fire tricks when Daddy told me specifically not to." She smiled winningly at Phoenix.
Nice save, Trucy.
Phoenix sent her a stern look intended to mean 'We'll talk about this later', but her smile just widened, and he shook his head. "We need more paper for this office, so we're not writing chore schedules on the back of Trucy's props. Could whoever's not cleaning the toilets go out and get some? I've got to get Trucy to school."
Athena leaped up, grabbing her bag. "Sure thing, boss! I'll head out right now!"
"Hey, wait," Apollo said, shoving himself out of the desk chair. "Since when did we decide it was my turn to clean the toilets?"
"Well, I guess we didn't, but it seems pretty likely," Athena said, flicking her earring.
"What? Why?!"
Phoenix winced. "Apollo, no chords of steel before noon, remember?"
"Well, Mr. Wright said he thought it was your turn first, didn't he?" Athena said. "And he'd probably know best. Anyway, I know I cleaned last week, so it's definitely not my turn."
Apollo pointed at Athena. "There!"
"Apollo," Phoenix repeated. "Please-"
Apollo grabbed the bracelet on his wrist, jerking his arm up toward Athena. "You're lying! You keep fidgeting with your hair when you say you cleaned last week!"
Athena folded her arms, regarding Apollo with a piercing look usually reserved for difficult witnesses. "Are you sure there isn't something causing you lots of anxiety about what you're saying?"
Apollo waved both hands at her. "Of course there is! I have a lot of anxiety about cleaning the toilets when it's not my turn!"
"I don't know," Athena said, rubbing her chin. "Are you sure you're not just feeling a lot of emotional discord because you're the one lying?"
"I'm not- Mr. Wright!"
Phoenix looked up. Both had turned to face him, and he knew what was coming. He sighed, setting down his paper, and wondered what Pearl and Maya would say if they knew the mundane things the Magatama was being used for these days.
Scratch that, they'd probably support it, if it meant this office got cleaned.
"I can't keep using the Magatama to settle office disputes," Phoenix said anyway, leaning forward.
Apollo folded his arms across his chest. "Fine, just this one time. Then we can remake the chore schedule, and stop fighting about this."
Athena mirrored Apollo's pose, jutting out her chin. It was eerie, sometimes, how many little habits they'd picked up from each other. "Yeah, Boss! Just tell us, who's really lying?"
"Alright," Phoenix said, drawing his Magatama out of his pocket. "Repeat after me: I cleaned the toilets last week."
"I cleaned the toilets last week," Athena said confidently.
"I cleaned the toilets last week," Apollo repeated, directing a glare at Athena.
Phoenix watched in amusement as chains appeared in the air along with two locks, one over Athena, and one over Apollo. He shook his head, not bothering to hide his grin. "You're both lying."
Athena's mouth dropped open. "What! But-"
"Fine, I'll go out and get some paper for you, Mr. Wright," Apollo said, darting toward the door.
"Wait!" Athena sprinted after him, blocking his exit with an arm across the doorway. "I already said I was going! It's your turn to clean the toilets!"
"No way, it's been my turn for the past three weeks!" Apollo said. "See you later!" He ducked under her arm, disappearing into the hall.
"Not if I see you first!" Athena called, sprinting after him.
Their shouts echoed down the hall before finally fading into blessed silence. Phoenix let out a contented sigh, taking a deep swig of his coffee and picking the paper back up. Apollo and Athena were both talented lawyers, valued employees, and very good friends, but both were far too loud in the morning.
"Hey, Daddy." Trucy popped up from behind his desk, clutching half of a deck of cards between her fingers. "You think they'll ever figure out that the schedule always vanishes before one of us has to take a turn?"
Phoenix chuckled. "Let them solve that mystery on their own. It's part of their training."
"You're the best, Daddy." Trucy placed the cards on the desk, and disappeared behind it again.
"Now about this fire trick..."
"Sorry, I can't hear you, I've got to pick up all these cards I dropped!" Trucy called, voice muffled by the desk. A hand came up and swiped at the cards on the desk, sending more on the floor. "Whoops, guess we'll have to talk about this later!"
Phoenix glanced up at the clock, and finished his coffee. "Leave those, Trucy, we've got to get you to school." We can talk more about your trick on the way.
***
"Okay, maybe we have gotten a little out of hand..." Athena began, fidgeting with her earring.
"A little out of hand?" Apollo raised his arm, indicated a bandaid on his forearm. "You almost shoved me down the stairs yesterday. I'm lucky to only have a scratch!"
"I'm sorry!" Athena said. "I didn't mean to, really! I didn't think you'd be so easy to push over!"
"What's that supposed to mean?"
Phoenix cleared his throat. "Regardless of how easy Apollo is to push over-"
"Come on, Mr. Wright!"
"-I think we need to stop using powers in the office," Phoenix said. "It's causing too many problems. I don't want to scare clients away because we're shouting at each other."
Athena leaned forward, gripping the armrests of her chair. "Well, hang on, Mr. Wright, it's not like my power is something I can just turn off! Plus, none of this would have happened if Apollo just admitted he didn't clean the toilets last week!"
Apollo sank back in his seat, pressing a hand to his forehead. "Can we forget about the toilets, please? I'm so sick of arguing about the damn toilets."
"Fine," Athena said. "Then admit you lied, and go clean them."
"He can't clean them," Phoenix said. When both of them looked at him, he gestured to the snapped toilet brush resting on the desk. "No one can."
Athena and Apollo looked down at the toilet brush, and up at him. Apollo sighed. "You're saying you think one of us broke the toilet brush so we wouldn't have to clean the toilets today?"
Phoenix shrugged, letting their minds do the work for them.
"Why isn't Trucy here?" Apollo said, voice rising. "She probably broke it for one of her magic tricks!"
"She's at school." Phoenix reminded him. "Trucy and I left the office together last night before you two left, and I dropped her off at school this morning and came here after you two arrived. Neither of us had an opportunity."
Apollo shook his head. "Mr. Wright, this is ridiculous. Just buy a new one. Can we get back to-"
"It was probably Apollo," Athena interjected. "He always gets so angry when we talk about cleaning the toilets. I bet he took the brush in a fit of murderous rage, and!" She mimed snapping the brush over her knee.
"You're the one with the freakish strength!" Apollo snapped.
Athena balled her fists. "Hey! That's not something you should say to a lady!"
"When I came in this morning, you were already here!" Apollo said, waving toward the rest of the office. "You could've broken it before I came in!"
"Yeah, well, when I left last night, you said you were working late! It's not like you have a client right now, what were you working late on, huh?"
And for some reason, that question made Apollo color. He sunk down in his seat, muttering something about 'reading up on the latest cases', and Phoenix turned his attention to him. This wasn't the point of the meeting, and he wasn't sure he had time for the detour, but it was intriguing.
"See!" Athena said triumphantly. "He's acting totally suspicious! I can hear it in his voice!"
Apollo sent a look of desperation at Phoenix. "Mr. Wright, weren't you just saying that we shouldn't use our powers on each other?"
"Uh..."
Athena crossed her arms. "Boss, isn't it suspicious that now Apollo's on board with this no powers thing? He's definitely got something to hide!"
Athena wasn't wrong. Phoenix was a little surprised that Apollo had suddenly jumped on board, given his insistence on using the Magatama yesterday to figure out who was on toilet duty. It didn't take a lot of thought, though, to understand what was going on. Apollo had very few secrets that made him turn that color.
Reading up on the latest cases indeed.
***
(Several weeks earlier...)
The first time Phoenix had seen Athena and Prosecutor Gavin interact was also the first time he'd worried about the practicality of cramming four lie detectors into one tiny office. Gavin had come by to discuss a detail on some old case with Apollo, and Phoenix had watched Athena carefully. He'd seen a few defense attorneys be too starstruck to stand against Gavin in court- it was one of the reasons Apollo was so well-matched with him- so it concerned him when the normally talkative Athena didn't say much while Gavin was in the room. Instead, she kept sneaking glances at him and Apollo.
It apparently concerned Gavin, too, because, after the usual three minutes of bickering with Apollo, he smiled at her. "Ah, I believe we've met before," he said, extending a hand to Athena. "Athena Cykes, was it not? Herr Forehead, where have you been hiding this lovely lady?"
Phoenix expected a blush, a slip of the tongue from Widget, a giggle, something, but instead, Athena just smiled brightly, shaking his hand. "It's good to see you again, Prosecutor Gavin!"
"You two already met?" Phoenix asked from across the room, and Apollo muttered something under his breath, glaring at nothing in particular.
Athena nodded. "Yep! During the Themis Academy trial!" With that, she and Gavin fell into such easy conversation together that Phoenix wondered if he'd imagined her previous shyness. By the end of the conversation, they'd discovered they'd both spent time in Germany, and were talking rapidly in German. Phoenix sent a bewildered glance at Apollo, but Apollo had returned to his desk, back to the room.
Finally, Gavin laughed. "You are too funny, Fräulein, but I'm afraid I've got a meeting to get to, and I can't keep Herr Edgeworth waiting. We must speak more of this later." He nodded at Phoenix. "Herr Wright. Herr Forehead."
"Yeah, bye," Apollo said shortly, digging a pen out of a desk drawer.
For a moment, Phoenix thought he saw a crease between Gavin's well-groomed eyebrows, but, with another easy grin, the man waved and left. Phoenix eyed Athena. She was smiling as she returned to her seat, but there was no longing sigh, no lovesick swoon, no pink cheeks. She did, however, catch Phoenix staring at her.
"What is it, boss?"
"Uh." Phoenix ran a hand through his hair. "I wanted to see how you reacted to him. You might have to face him in court someday. I wanted to make sure you wouldn't have any trouble because he's, you know..."
Athena shrugged, still smiling. "People are just people, Mr. Wright, even celebrities. I'm sure whenever I have to face him in court, I can take him on!" She punched one hand into her palm, striking a confident pose.
"Great," Phoenix said. "Apollo's faced him lots of times, he can give you some advice. Right, Apollo?" He was a bit concerned by how tightly Apollo was gripping his pen.
"Yeah," Apollo grumbled without turning around. "He's not actually German. He just pretends he is to impress girls."
Athena's smile didn't fade, but Widget turned an anxious blue. "Oh, he told me he wasn't German! He studied there for a while, right?"
If possible, Apollo's shoulders tensed even more, and Phoenix thought, if he squinted, he could make out a cloud of gloom over Apollo's head. Am I about to have to mediate my first-ever office dispute over Klavier Gavin, of all people?
He cleared his throat, trying to think of something halfway professional to say. Phoenix desperately wished Trucy or Edgeworth were here. Trucy was better at alleviating tension than he was, and much better at calming down Apollo when he got in one of his moods. Edgeworth, on the other hand, had no issues keeping a firm hand on the prosecutor's office, and his employees were more difficult than Apollo or Athena. Then again, Phoenix thought he'd rather die than ask Edgeworth's advice on something like this.
"Maybe we should talk about something else?" Phoenix suggested.
"You're right, boss. Besides, I got the feeling that I'm definitely not Prosecutor Gavin's type." Athena said, as if he hadn't spoken. "And he's definitely not my type. All that blonde hair, uck! I can't stand guys who are musicians!"
Phoenix blinked at her incredulously. Granted, Wright Anything Agency was never a professional environment at the best of times, but he got the feeling this was unprofessional, even for them. "Athena," he said slowly. "Let's not discuss the dateability of prosecutors at work."
Apollo spun around in his chair, arms folded. "Yeah, why'd you have to bring that up, huh? I don't care what you think about Prosecutor Gavin! What are you so defensive about?"
It didn't take special hearing to tell that Athena wasn't the defensive one here. Oh, no, Apollo.
"I'm sorry, I just thought that you two were-" Athena's eyes darted around the office, and she sank back into her seat. "I guess I was wrong. I'm sorry."
Oh, no, Athena. "It's alright," Phoenix said, not wanting her to think she was in any real trouble. "Let's get back to work. Apollo, can you show Athena how to shelve evidence?"
"Hang on, what'd you think?"
Phoenix closed his eyes. Forget Trucy or Edgeworth, he needed to call Maya and have her channel Mia for this. She'd handled him when he was head-over-heels for Dahlia, she could handle whatever was going on here. "Apollo, please."
Apollo held up a hand. "No, this isn't about how dateable Prosecutor Gavin is, I promise. I don't care. I'm just curious. It's just casual conversation, Mr. Wright."
Doesn't sound like it. But he also didn't want Apollo to corner Athena about it later, when he couldn't intervene.
"Nothing," Athena said, clutching Widget. "I thought- nothing." Apollo narrowed his eyes, and she offered him a nervous smile. "I thought since you're his friend, you might try and set me up with him, and I wanted to let you know that I don't want that to happen."
"Really," Apollo said flatly, eyes flicking down to her hand on Widget.
"Nope!" Widget chirped. Athena winced, sinking further into her seat.
"Apollo, drop it," Phoenix said, passing a hand over his face.
Apollo turned his glare onto Phoenix. "Why do you want to end this conversation so badly, huh? Do you know what she's going to say?"
"No." Apollo gestured toward his bracelet, and Phoenix sighed. "Fine. I have a feeling it's going to be about Prosecutor Gavin's love life, and it's going to turn into an even longer conversation about Prosecutor Gavin's love life."
"It's okay, Boss, I'm trained for this," Athena said. "Maybe if I just get it all out in the open, we can move on."
Phoenix very much doubted that, but he also very much doubted that Apollo was ever going to let this go otherwise. He waved for Athena to speak.
"Well." Athena smiled at Apollo, her hand still clutching Widget. "You acted so grumpy around Prosecutor Gavin just now, but I could tell, under that emotion, you were really happy to see him. So I guess I just thought maybe you...like him more than you let on?"
Phoenix buried his face in his hands, waiting for the explosion. It apparently took a second for Athena's words to sink in.
"You think I like Prosecutor Gavin?!"
"Apollo!" Phoenix said. "Chords of steel!"
"I didn't say that!" Athena insisted. She waved her hands from side to side frantically, as if trying to clean an invisible slate. "All I said was that maybe you guys are better friends than how you act! I didn't mean it like, um, something romantic!"
"It's totally romantic!" Widget chirped.
Phoenix did his best to turn his laughter into a cough, but, judging by the furious look on Apollo's face, he didn't succeed. "Sorry, Apollo. I tried to warn you."
Apollo scoffed. "Oh, like you're one to talk, Mr. Wright!"
Phoenix drew himself back up to his full height. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"About being closer to prosecutors than you act?" Apollo said. Phoenix stared at him blankly. "About pretending you're just coworkers when there's something else going on?"
Phoenix shook his head, reaching for his coffee mug. He had an inkling of what Apollo was trying to say, but he and Edgeworth had always been open about their friendship with each other. They toned it down if they were interacting in a professional capacity, sure, but there was no acting or pretending going on. "I don't know what you're talking about, Apollo."
"Come on, Mr. Wright, everyone knows you and Chief Prosecutor Edgeworth are dating." Apollo said, and Phoenix gagged on his coffee."You two aren't even subtle about it. I don't know why you feel like you have to keep it a secret, nobody cares."
"What- but we're not- everyone?" Phoenix said, dabbing at his chin with a napkin. They really weren't. Phoenix wouldn't deny that there'd been times over the years when he'd thought- but they really, really weren't. "Apollo, the chief prosecutor and I are very good friends who've known each other for a long time. We're not, and never have been, dating."
Apollo's face reddened, his eyes widening in horror. He glanced down at his bracelet, and back up at Phoenix. "You're really not?"
"No," Phoenix said shortly. This could be a funny story to tell Edgeworth later- or, more likely, another memory to throw deep into the box of 'things to forget about forever and never, ever bring up again'. "Who's, uh, everyone?"
"The entire prosecutor's office. Most of the police department." Apollo said, still looking like he'd seen a ghost. "And a few others- we thought you two just wanted to keep it private, so no one said anything. But-"
Phoenix set down his coffee cup, hard enough for hot liquid to splash onto his desk. "Apollo, could you show Athena how to shelve evidence? Please?"
"S-sure, Mr. Wright." Apollo nearly knocked over his chair as he stood. "Come on, Athena."
Athena got up much more slowly, lingering by Phoenix's desk as Apollo made his way to the door. "Um, Mr. Wright..." she began.
Phoenix looked up at her. "Yes?"
She directed an uncertain glance at Apollo, and Apollo shook his head. "Never mind. I'll shelve evidence really well, and no more talk about prosecutors, I promise." She saluted with a smile and followed Apollo out.
It's a good thing neither of them have a Magatama. Talk about locks on the heart.
"Shut up, Phoenix," Phoenix muttered to himself, wiping up the spilled coffee.
***
Phoenix considered his options, looking between Athena's furious glare and Apollo's desperate pleading. After a moment, he clasped his hands together in front of him. "I think Apollo is telling the truth about working late. I'm sure he has some side projects to work on."
It was an easy decision. Besides the fact that he had no desire to needle Apollo about something the kid was clearly sensitive about, calling him on that lie would set a dangerous precedent for the types of questions they could ask each other. The entire point of this whole conversation was respecting each other's privacy, after all.
Apollo grinned, sending a victorious finger toward Athena. "See? Mr. Wright believes me! Which means it was you who broke the toilet brush!"
Athena's mouth dropped open. "But-"
"But," Phoenix said, "no matter what Apollo was doing here, he still had an opportunity to commit the crime." Apollo's shoulders slumped, and Athena stuck out her tongue at him. "Both of you did. Unless either of you have any evidence to prove you didn't?"
Neither of his employees said a word. Apollo stared at the floor, and Athena crossed her arms, frowning.
Phoenix nodded, relieved to finally return to the point he was trying to make. "It doesn't matter who broke the toilet brush," he said. "We can buy a new one. What matters is that an argument got out of hand thanks to everyone using their powers, and-"
Apollo looked up. "What if I had a witness?"
Phoenix checked his watch. "Apollo, I don't care who broke the toilet brush. What matters is-"
"No, we're defense attorneys, right?" Apollo said, straightening. "Give me a chance to prove myself innocent."
Athena nodded. "Yeah, I wanna hear this. Because I sure didn't break the brush, so it must have been Apollo."
"We'll see about that." Apollo pulled out his phone. "I'll call him right now."
"Him?" Phoenix asked as Apollo dialed, and then he noticed the flush had returned to Apollo's cheeks. Oh, no, kid, I was trying to save you from having to do this.
"Here, I'll put it on speaker." Apollo pressed a button, and the sound of the call connecting blared into the office. He set the phone down next to the Magatama, and waited, arms folded, staring at it. Athena sent an uncertain glance at Phoenix before watching the phone, too. Phoenix, meanwhile, checked his watch again, wondering how things had gotten so off track.
As soon as the other line clicked, a smooth German voice filled the room. "Liebling, this is a nice surprise!" Klavier Gavin said. "I was just about to call you, I wanted to ask-"
Apollo leaned forward, arms still folded. "Prosecutor Gavin, you're on speakerphone."
"Ah." When Gavin spoke again, he sounded still sounded friendly, but it was an entirely different kind of warmth. "Who am I speaking to?"
"Hi, Prosecutor Gavin!" Athena called.
"Hi, Prosecutor Gavin," Phoenix echoed obediently. He had a very bad feeling about where this was headed.
"The entire agency!" Gavin said. "Only missing Fräulein Wright, of course. To what do I owe the honor?"
"I want you to clear something up for me," Apollo said. He squeezed his eyes shut, taking in a deep breath. "When you dropped me off at home last night, we stopped by the office on the way back, yes?"
Athena immediately gasped, and slapped her hands over her mouth to silence herself. Phoenix sat back in his seat with a creak, watching Apollo. Even Gavin took a bewildered pause before replying.
"Uh, ja."
Apollo nodded, opening his eyes. "And when we stopped by the office, I gave you the key so you could let yourself in and use the restroom. Yes?"
"Ja," Gavin said. "I don't see where this is-"
"And when you were in the office, there was a toilet brush in there." Apollo continued, as insistent as if he were pressing a murder suspect. "Yes?"
Phoenix's bad feeling rapidly evolved into outright dread. There was no way Klavier Gavin of all people- and what had Apollo been doing with him in the first place-
"Ah, I don't know," Gavin said. "I wasn't looking for one. I'm not sure what we're talking about right now, Herr Forehead. Did something happen?"
"Did you or didn't you?" Athena snapped, leaning towards the phone.
"Excuse me?"
Athena fired off a rapid sentence in German, and Gavin responded in kind, sounding even more bewildered than before.
Phoenix shook his head. "It doesn't count as witness testimony if we have to take Athena's word for what you're saying."
"Sorry, Herr Wright," Gavin said. "I was just telling Fräulein Cykes that I believe I remember seeing a toilet brush when I stopped by the office. Is that...all you called about?"
"One more thing."
Gavin's voice brightened. "Yes, Herr Forehead?"
"When you saw the toilet brush," Apollo said, leaning forward, "was the handle broken?"
Apollo and Athena stared at the phone, both looking like they'd forgotten how to breathe. Phoenix, meanwhile, began mentally calculating the timing of last night's events. There was no way- was there?
"Nein," Gavin said. "It was a toilet brush."
The effect on the room was instantaneous. Apollo grinned, relaxing back into his chair, and Athena tensed, balling her hands into fists. "I didn't do it!" she snapped. "Apollo still could have done it! What about when he let Prosecutor Gavin in, huh?"
"Would one of you please tell me what is going on?"
"Someone broke our toilet brush to get out of cleaning duty," Apollo said. "We're trying to figure out who it was. Whoever did it has to clean this week."
Phoenix, in the middle of trying to figure out when, exactly, Apollo and Gavin had dropped by the office, flinched. "Hey, punishment was never on the table!"
"Sure it is!" Athena said, slamming her fist into her palm. "Apollo broke the brush and I'm gonna make him pay for it!"
"A noble cause," Gavin said. "I'm happy to help, then. I asked Herr Forehead to assist me with an investigation last night, as he is not related to the case, and much better at reading people than I. We left your office around six-thirty pm, and returned around ten, on the way to his apartment. I, ah, needed to use your facilities, so Herr Forehead lent me the key and I let myself in. He stayed with the bike the whole time."
"Ooh, where'd you guys go?" Athena asked, apparently unable to resist herself.
"A restaurant, and then a bar," Gavin said. "...It was a long investigation."
"That's irrelevant!" Apollo said forcefully, jabbing a finger at the phone. "What matters here is that I have a witness who can vouch that the toilet brush wasn't broken after I left the office at six-thirty. And as Prosecutor Gavin said, I was with his motorcycle the entire time he was in the office at ten. He was carrying my key at the time, so there was no way I could have gotten in without him knowing. Therefore I'm not the culprit, so it has to be Athena!"
Athena was gaping at him. "You two rode on his motorcycle?"
"Don't worry, Fräulein, Klavier Gavin does not drive drunk."
Apollo nodded vigorously. "Especially because it was an investigation. We would never drink on an investigation. Right, Prosecutor Gavin?"
"Boss, come on, they're totally lying!" Athena said, turning to him. "Prosecutor Gavin's got to be a biased witness, listen to them! This has to be a conflict of interest- boss?"
Phoenix blinked, shaking himself out of his stupor, to find both Apollo and Athena staring at him. He offered a smile. "Um, yeah, that's probably right."
"Boss, are you even listening?"
It wasn't possible. There was no way. Years ago, Klavier Gavin had, admittedly without knowing the full story, ruined Phoenix's life, and now here he was, about to do it all over again.
Not all over again. Isn't that a little melodramatic, Wright?
Apollo's eyes narrowed, and he leaned back toward the phone. "Kla- uh- Gavin, did you notice anything else strange when you were in the office? Anything that wasn't there when you picked me up?"
"Now that you mention it, I did," Gavin said. "The lights were on, and I'm sure we turned them off when we left. I remember seeing a wine bottle and two wine glasses on the coffee table, too. I'm sure they weren't there before, or I would have suggested we take the wine on our investigation." He hummed thoughtfully. "The bottle was empty, though. Schade."
Nope, not melodramatic, he's ruined my life. Again.
"Thank you, Prosecutor Gavin, that's all I need," Apollo said, picking the phone off of the table. "I'll call you later about the, uh, investigation."
"Happy to help, liebling."
Athena was apparently too engrossed in this revelation to react to what Phoenix was sure was a pet name. "But there wasn't a wine bottle here when I came in this morning!"
"I figured," Apollo said, tucking his phone in his pocket. He aimed his stare towards Phoenix. "Which means someone else must have been in here last night."
It took all of Phoenix's training from years of poker to hold Apollo's gaze. "Isn't this irrelevant?" he asked. "Prosecutor Gavin said the toilet brush wasn't broken when he left. Maybe someone else came in beforehand for unrelated reasons."
"But if the wine bottle and glasses were gone when I came in, someone must have cleaned them up after Prosecutor Gavin left!" Athena said. "They could've broken the brush then!"
"And that someone had to have a key." Apollo stared Phoenix down. "I don't remember any signs of a break-in."
Athena nodded, tapping her chin. "Plus, that'd be a really weird break-in. I feel like some of Trucy's props would be worth more than a wine bottle and some glasses. And why would they snap a toilet brush?"
"Why indeed," Apollo said, elbowing Athena. Athena followed his gaze to Phoenix, and narrowed her eyes.
Struck by the glares of both of his subordinates, Phoenix felt sweat dripping down the back of his neck. He quickly considered his lines of defense.
Accuse Gavin of breaking the brush? Nope, he has no motive, and no real reason to lie about it.
Blame the wine and broken brush on Athena? Too obvious a lie, it wouldn't take much to discredit it. Athena's not old enough to buy alcohol.
Give up and admit the truth? Can't do that.
Redirect their attention?
Phoenix cleared his throat. "The broken brush wasn't actually what I wanted to talk to you about-"
"Boo!" Athena said, grabbing a handful of Trucy's scattered cards and throwing them at him. They sailed a few inches through the air before fluttering onto the desk.
"Yeah, that's not fair!" Apollo said. "You let us think one of us did it!"
Phoenix chose his words carefully, trying to keep his expression and movements still, his errant emotions under control."I never said I was the one who broke it."
"I can tell you're trying to talk like a robot, Mr. Wright!" Athena said.
Redirect, redirect. Keep them from asking the important questions.
"Fine," Phoenix said, with a tiny sigh. "I'm responsible for the broken toilet brush. I was hoping to avoid the punishment of, what was it, one week of toilet duty?"
"One month." Athena corrected.
Apollo shook his head. "Two months."
Phoenix, despite knowing there were more important things to discuss, rubbing the back of his head, smiling. "Hey, we never agreed there had to be a punishment at all, did we? I never agreed to that."
Apollo returned his smile. "Let's take an office vote, then. Majority rules?"
"We're getting off track," Phoenix said. When Apollo and Athena protested, he raised a hand. "Fine, I'll buy a new brush and clean the toilets for the next two months. Like I said, that wasn't the important part of this meeting." He took a moment to gage their reactions- both still looked furious, but they were listening to what he had to say. "We need to stop using powers in the office. I'm sure neither of you-" he sent a significant glance at Apollo- "want us prying into your personal lives, and we can't keep using them for office disputes. It escalates things until we end up pushing each other down the stairs."
Apollo's gaze had drifted to the floor as soon as Phoenix said 'personal lives'. Athena, however, was frowning, looking as though she were already preparing an objection.
"I know you two and Trucy can't turn them off like I can," Phoenix said, gesturing toward the Magatama. "But maybe we can try not to focus or, uh, listen too hard when we're having everyday conversations with each other, and not bring up anything weird you see or hear unless it has to do with a case. Does that sound reasonable?"
"Yes, boss," Athena said.
"Yes, Mr. Wright." Apollo echoed, not looking up.
"Great!" Phoenix checked his watch again. Somehow, he'd managed to get his point across in just enough time. He stood, hastily maneuvering his way around the desk and toward his bag on the coffee table. "Good work today, everyone! I'll see you both tomorrow!"
"Hold it!"
Phoenix turned back around. Apollo stood, holding the Magatama out toward him, determination in his eyes.
Phoenix forced a smile, reaching for it. "Thanks, Polly. Maya would've killed me if I lost it."
"Just one more thing, Mr. Wright," Apollo said, jerking it out of Phoenix's grasp. "If we're going to sentence you to two months of toilet duty, we need to make sure you're actually guilty."
Phoenix reached for the Magatama again, and Apollo dodged backward. Fine, kid. You want to play hardball? I learned hardball years ago, from the Nickel Samurai, no less. "I wasn't lying earlier," he said. "I'm responsible for the brush being broken. Apollo, don't you have your bracelet for this? Give me the Magatama, please."
Athena's eyes narrowed, and she swiped the Magatama out of Apollo's hand before Phoenix could take it. "Wait, boss. Did you really break the brush?"
Phoenix sighed. "Didn't I already answer that? Listen, you two, I have someplace I need to be, so-"
Athena traded an uncertain glance with Apollo, but she didn't let go of the Magatama. "Did you actually break it, though?"
"I don't know why you keep asking me that," Phoenix said, shaking his head. "Only the three of us have keys to the office. Was it you, Athena?"
"No!"
"Apollo?"
"No, but..."
Phoenix shrugged, not saying aloud the obvious conclusion.
"But he's acting so weird!" Athena whispered to Apollo. "His emotions are all over the place!"
Apollo took the Magatama from Athena, eyeing Phoenix thoughtfully. "Mr. Wright, how did you break it?"
"I had too much to drink." Definitely true. "It was an accident." Also true, at least as far as I know. He checked his watch again, making a show of it this time. "Apollo, can I have the Magatama back, please? I really need to go."
He could tell Athena's resolve was wavering, her don't-upset-the-boss instincts kicking in. Apollo had known Phoenix since long before he deserved to be called anyone's boss, but there was clear hesitation in his eyes. Phoenix held out his hand, waiting.
I could just run, he thought, but then they'd just ambush me tomorrow morning, and I'd look even more suspicious. Better deal with this now.
"Apollo," Phoenix repeated, using his best serious boss voice. "Arguments like these are why I wanted to ban the use of powers in the office. We-"
He could tell the exact moment the locks appeared. Apollo's mouth dropped open, his eyes tracing invisible chains through the air around Phoenix. Phoenix's stomach sank as Apollo clenched the Magatama more tightly in his hand, and Apollo met Phoenix's eyes, resolve strengthening.
Apparently that one was a stretch even for the Magatama. Goddammit, I was so close-
"Mr. Wright," Apollo began, "why do you really want to ban the use of powers in the office?"
Phoenix groaned. "Apollo, please."
Apollo shook his head, although his serious expression had melted into something amused. "This is a major change in office policy, Mr. Wright. I think all of your employees deserve transparency for why it's being established."
"Yeah!" Athena said, balling her fists. "Plus, you just spent the last thirty minutes trying to frame us for breaking that brush, and I wanna know why!"
Phoenix opened his mouth, shut it, and opened it again, mind blank of anything to say besides the truth. Clearly, the Magatama wasn't going to let him get away with much here, and even half-truth-half-lies about the subject would be damning.
I could really use a miracle about now, he thought. Anything to distract them so I can run, and call in sick until they forget we had this conversation. A flock of birds could fly in the window! A hurricane could level the building! Trucy could leap out of the desk as part of an elaborate magic trick! She'd...never let this go, but still, anything!
Someone knocked on the door, and all three of them jumped. "I'll get it!" Athena called brightly, moving past Phoenix toward the door, and Phoenix's shoulders sagged in relief. Then, he checked his watch again. His worst suspicions were confirmed when he heard the familiar voice greeting Athena.
...Anything but that.
"Chief Prosecutor Edgeworth!" Athena said, backing up to let Miles into the room. Her pleasant smile was undercut by Widget's anxious frown- Phoenix had always suspected she and Apollo were intimidated by Edgeworth. "What brings you here?"
Miles's gaze swept the room before landing on Phoenix. "I trust you are ready to go, Wright? I was expecting you outside." He turned to Athena. "Your boss and I have a business meeting to attend tonight, but it seems he's forgotten-"
Apollo let out a high-pitched yelp, and the Magatama clattered to the floor. He clapped his hands over his mouth as Athena and Miles stared at him.
Phoenix smiled tiredly, bending down to pick up the Magatama. "Punctual as always, Edgeworth."
***
(Last night...)
"You cannot be serious, Wright," Miles said from the couch.
Phoenix grinned down at him. He struck a pose, one foot up on the coffee table, with the toilet brush jutted out in front of him like a sword. "I thought I did a good job reenacting it."
Miles pressed his fingers to the bridge of his nose, his other hand struggling to keep his glass of wine upright. "You cannot expect me to believe that your subordinates began fencing over whose turn it was to perform a chore. Clearly, your daughter's penchant for showmanship has rubbed off on you." He was chuckling, though, a rare sound even these days, and it, more than the wine, warmed Phoenix from head to toe.
Phoenix hopped down, setting the brush down on the table. "Just because your subordinates never do it...besides Blackquill, I guess." He grabbed his glass of wine and fell back onto the other couch.
Miles replaced his glasses, fixing Phoenix with an unimpressed stare. "If this is how the Wright Anything Agency functions, it is no wonder your trials are always so haphazard and-"
"What are we celebrating tonight, again?" Phoenix asked, raising his wine glass toward Miles.
Miles sighed. "You're absurd."
"That's what I thought."
It'd been too long since Phoenix had a night like this. He and Miles had gone out for their usual weekly dinner, and had their usual pleasant time discussing the antics of their respective subordinates. The evening had taken a different turn, however, when Miles presented him with a bottle of wine in celebration of closing a particularly ugly case, and Phoenix had suggested they open it for their usual one-drink nightcap at the Wright Anything Agency office. At some point, one drink had turned into 'just one more', and from there into 'we might as well finish off the bottle', and now, after a steady two hours of drinking, the only wine not yet consumed was in Phoenix and Miles's half-full wine glasses.
Phoenix hadn't felt this relaxed in a long time, and, judging by the way Miles slouched back into the couch cushions, he wasn't the only one.
"Whose turn was it last week, then?" Miles asked, pushing his glasses up his nose.
"What?"
"To clean the..." He gestured vaguely towards the office restrooms.
Phoenix blinked. "Does it matter?"
Miles rolled his eyes. "It's an interesting puzzle, Wright, that's all. They were both lying, and you and your daughter apparently are never on the schedule."
"I'm surprised you can't figure it out."
"Of course I can. You know, then?"
Phoenix nodded, smiling patiently. "You want the solution?"
"Truthfully, I don't care enough to work it out," Miles said with a beleaguered sigh.
Phoenix took that to mean, Give me a hint. "One of them wasn't lying. At least, not completely. It was their turn, but they didn't do their job."
"Forgetfulness?" Miles said, pushing his glasses back up his nose. They seemed determined to slide off his face. "Or spite? Ms. Cykes seems more likely to have forgotten, but Mr. Justice has been quite bitter in the past about the chores you assign him, if I recall."
Phoenix shrugged. "What do you think?"
"From as much as I can trust your melodramatic recollection, Ms. Cykes seemed shocked to discover both of them were lying, while Mr. Justice did not. My assumption then is either Ms. Cykes didn't realize she forgot until that very moment, or that she was aware it was Mr. Justice's turn and was surprised to hear he didn't perform his duties. Mr. Justice must have known either way-"
"You can call them Apollo and Athena, you know," Phoenix said. "You're tipsy, and you've definitely spoken with them enough."
"As I was saying, Wright," Miles continued. "If Mr. Justice truly was not surprised, then I can only assume he knew neither he nor Ms. Cykes performed their duties. Therefore it was his turn, not Ms. Cykes', last week, and he didn't do as he was told." He sipped his glass slowly, eyes unfocused. "I can't comprehend why either would get your Magatama involved, however."
Phoenix shrugged. "Because asking me not to use it would be the same thing as admitting they were lying, wouldn't it? Apollo was the one who insisted on it. Maybe he was hoping Athena would crack under the pressure and admit she was lying first, or maybe he just wanted to drag her down with him."
"Your office sounds like a nightmare, Wright."
"We don't have any hawks," Phoenix said. He shuddered. "Or Paynes."
"I would take Taka any day over the amount of interpersonal meddling and gossip that appears to go on at the Wright Anything Agency."
Phoenix snorted. "Like the prosecutor's office never has any gossip."
"Of course not. We're professionals." Miles drained his wine glass and set it on the table beside the bottle. "We know how to stay out of each other's personal lives."
"Oh, really," Phoenix said, smirking. "Come on, Edgeworth, I know for a fact that-"
Wait, I don't want to talk about this, what am I doing?
It was too late. Miles was already watching him curiously over the rims of his glasses. "You've heard gossip from the prosecutor's office?"
"Uh..."
It'd been weeks, and he still hadn't forgotten the rumor Apollo had told him about him and Edgeworth. Maya had always teased him for being too easy to read, but, up until that conversation, Phoenix had thought he'd managed to keep that particular secret more or less under wraps. If everyone in the legal system believed this rumor, then Miles had to know, right? And if Miles knew, then he clearly didn't want to talk about it, or he would have brought it up already. And if he didn't know-
"Is something the matter, Wright?"
Phoenix tilted his head back, finishing off the rest of the wine, and set his wine glass on the table. "Nope."
"If you've heard rumors about me, I can assure you that does not affect me in the slightest," Miles said, gaze drifting to Phoenix's empty wine glass. "As I'm sure you're aware, I've dealt with rumors for most of my career."
Phoenix closed his eyes, remembering a time where rumors had greatly affected Edgeworth. "They weren't about you." he began, before realizing that the obvious lie would confirm Miles's worst suspicions. "Well, they were, but it wasn't anything...bad."
"And?"
Phoenix opened his eyes. Miles was watching him, face impassive. Phoenix fidgeted in his seat, scratching the back of his head. "It's not anything mean, either. It's, uh..." He couldn't bring himself to say it. "Hey, Edgeworth, you won't fire anybody over this, will you?"
"Of course not," Miles said dismissively. "I told you, I don't care about rumors. What is it that has you so rattled?"
"Rattled? Me?"
"Wright." Miles shook his head, smiling. "You look like you just realized your accused has run off with all of your evidence."
Phoenix, about to run a hand through his hair, clenched his hand into a fist in his lap. "It's a silly rumor. The entire prosecutor's office apparently thinks we're, uh, secretly lovers."
Lovers? Where'd that word come from?
Miles's face didn't change, but he picked up his empty wine glass. "The entire prosecutor's office."
Phoenix nodded. "And most of the police department. And a few others. Apollo said we're, uh, not subtle about it." He forced a laugh. "Isn't that funny?"
Miles's expression still hadn't changed. "You have an odd sense of humor, Wright." He brought his wine glass to his lips, and blinked down at it, confused.
"It's empty," Phoenix offered.
"I am aware." Miles cleared his throat, pushing himself to his feet. "Would you like to go for a walk? I think we could both use a clear head."
"Yeah, sure." Anything to end this conversation.
They locked up and wobbled their way down the stairs, only a little unsteady on their feet after the past couple hours of slow drinking. The cool air of the street outside was a relief, although Phoenix no longer had the excuse of the too-warm office for the flush on his face. As soon as they left, Miles strode ahead of him, headed in no particular direction, and Phoenix had to jog to catch up.
"Whoa, hang on!" he called, and Miles slowed slightly. "What, did you miss your cardio this morning?"
Miles gave him a withering look that Phoenix wasn't entirely sure he deserved. "Wright, you are out of shape."
"I've also been drinking." Phoenix pointed out. "Not all of us have your inhuman tolerance." Miles didn't respond, and Phoenix shoved his hands in his pockets. "So, where are we going?"
"I thought it might be nice to walk around your neighborhood." Miles adjusted his glasses, not looking at Phoenix. "I admit I haven't seen much of it in all the times I've visited. Is there anything of interest around here?"
"Uh..." Phoenix checked his watch. "Not at...ten at night, there isn't."
An uncomfortable silence followed as they passed underneath a streetlight. Phoenix glanced at Miles and, for a second, thought he made out panic in his expression. He cleared his throat. "Trucy's old elementary school is near here. It's not really a landmark, but-"
The creases in Miles's forehead smoothed out immediately, his shoulders relaxing. "Lead the way."
As they followed a route Phoenix and Trucy had walked hundreds of times, Phoenix didn't ask why they were visiting his daughter's elementary school in the middle of the night. He didn't ask why they were going for a walk in the first place. He was so busy not asking that he didn't hear the roar of the incoming vehicle right as they were about to cross the street.
He did, however, feel Miles' arm, thrust across his chest before he could step forward. "Careful, Phoenix!" Miles snapped, and the use of his first name snapped Phoenix out of his thoughts just in time to see a motorcycle speed by, a few yards ahead of him.
Phoenix looked down at the arm across his chest, and up at Miles, who was glaring down the street after the bike. Miles muttered something irritated under his breath.
"Hey, it's okay, Miles, people are always flying down this street," Phoenix said. "Thanks, though."
Miles studied him for a second, a mix of several emotions present on his face, and Phoenix raised his eyebrows. After a second, Miles's eyes widened in realization. "It was the best way to get your attention, Wright," he said. "You were lost in thought. You should have been watching the road."
"Sure, Miles," Phoenix said, with a rush of courage he attributed to the wine. He made an exaggerated show of looking both ways before crossing the street. "Trucy's school is just up here, come on."
Trucy's school was much more rundown than he remembered. The playground appeared to have been redone, though, with a few new death traps dotted around a mulched field that he was sure wasn't there before. Then again, he was getting old, as Trucy often reminded him. He walked up to the chainlink fence, intertwining his fingers around the metal, and heard Miles's footsteps as the other man came to a stop beside him.
Miles cleared his throat. "This is it?"
Phoenix nodded. "They've added a few things, but this is it." He pointed. "There's the swingset where she broke her wrist trying to prove she could fly. Those are the monkey bars she spent two weeks trying to master. She nearly broke her wrist again." He shook his head, not even bothering to keep the fondness out of his voice. "She's a stubborn kid."
"I can't imagine where she gets it from," Miles said, apparently not trying too hard to keep the fondness out of his voice, either. "As I recall, the monkey bars took you four weeks." He smiled at Phoenix, his first smile since Phoenix mentioned the rumors, and something fluttered in Phoenix's chest.
Phoenix laughed, looking away. The question of why they were visiting Trucy's old school at ten at night was growing into a larger question, one he'd kept at the back of his mind for years, only braving when he was tired or tipsy. Like now. "Uh, Edgeworth." Phoenix tightened his grip on the chainlink fence. "Sorry if I made you uncomfortable, with the..."
"I told you, Wright, I do not concern myself with the rumors of my subordinates." Miles's smile vanished, though, and the crease had reappeared in his forehead.
"Right." Phoenix, later, didn't know what made him decide to keep going, although it was probably that smile. "It's weird, isn't it, though?"
"What is?"
"What Apollo said." Phoenix kept his eyes trained forward, on some kind of spiral-shaped contraption that looked like an injury waiting to happen. "That we aren't subtle about it."
The ensuing silence was so long that Phoenix began idly daydreaming about going back to school, getting a physics degree, burying himself in research, and inventing time travel to prevent this conversation from ever happening. He didn't look over at Miles. He didn't want to see the expression on the other man's face. If he'd just upset a decades-long friendship, he wanted a few more moments of blissful ignorance before having to face that fact.
"Wright," Miles said, slowly. "Are you suggesting something?"
Phoenix wished Miles had gotten easier to read over the years. "I don't know," he said. "What would you say if I were?"
Miles eyed him, not responding.
Dr. Wright has a nice ring to it. They make people with PhDs in physics doctors, right? And Trucy would probably love time travel, I bet she could use it for magic tricks-
"Wright, look at me."
Reluctantly, Phoenix met his eyes. "Listen, Edgeworth, you don't have to let me down easy. We can pretend this conversation didn't happen. I don't-"
"Wright-"
"-want to make you uncomfortable. I can stay away from the prosecutor's office until the rumors-"
"Phoenix, for once in your life, would you listen to me?" Miles snapped.
Phoenix shut his mouth, but Miles didn't speak, scowling down the street at nothing in particular. "Okay," Phoenix said, carefully. "What do you want to say?"
"I..."
It happened in an instant. One moment, Miles was staring down the street, hand gripping his elbow in a familiar gesture, and in the next, Miles had stepped closer, his hands on Phoenix's shoulders, his face close to Phoenix's own, and-
What the-
Phoenix, shocked, took a step back, and Miles pulled away. For a beat, Phoenix tried to figure out what exactly had just happened, while Miles curled up into himself.
"Wright," Miles said. "Please tell me I didn't misinterpret-"
Phoenix quickly closed the distance between them and kissed him, letting go of the chain link fence to card his fingers through Miles's hair. It took Miles a moment to respond, but he did, with enthusiasm. The kiss was clumsy, fumbling, and tasted strongly of wine, but when Phoenix pulled away, he couldn't keep a smile off his face.
"You didn't misinterpret anything, Miles," Phoenix said, a bit breathlessly.
Miles looked vaguely gobsmacked, as though he'd just been told Franziska had quit criminal law to become a daycare teacher. A smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. "I see."
They kissed seven more times on the walk back to the building, three more times on the stairs up to the office, and once more by the door, not that Phoenix was counting. As soon as they were inside with the door closed behind them, the kissing became something much more distracting, and either both were drunker than they thought, or the phrase 'drunk on love' really held water, because neither noticed the coffee table behind them until Miles stumbled and fell back onto it with a loud crack.
"Ow," he said, sprawled on top of the table.
Phoenix stifled a laugh as he offered a hand to help Miles up. "Are you okay?"
Miles took Phoenix's hand, standing, and rubbed his back. "I"m fine." He looked down at the table. "I don't know about your table, though."
His fall had knocked the- thankfully empty- wine bottle and glasses onto the floor, and Phoenix gathered them up. The drinkware was unbroken, and the table appeared fine, too. "It's alright. No harm done," Phoenix said, carrying the wine bottle over to the office's recycling bin.
Miles bent over, picking up half of the toilet brush off of the ground. "What about this?"
Phoenix groaned as he discarded the bottle and took the wine glasses to the sink. "Apollo and Athena are going to have your head for that. There's been enough fighting about that toilet brush as is."
Miles's eyes widened. "You're planning on informing them?"
"You want to keep this a secret?" Phoenix asked. He turned on the faucet and ran water over the wine glasses, watching as the last traces of wine swirled down the drain in thin red trails.
"Whenever we do tell people," Miles began, picking up the other half of the toilet brush, "I have a feeling we're going to have to fill out a lot of paperwork. Of course, we will do nothing unethical beforehand, but I feel it would be best to get our footing before telling others. Don't you?"
Phoenix placed the wine glasses back in the cabinet and wiped his hands on the dishrag. He could already imagine the reactions from his own employees if word got out that he and Miles were, actually, dating. "Yeah, I get it. I'll make up some story for the toilet brush, I won't tell them you came by tonight."
Miles raised an eyebrow. "I know your employees have certain gifts..."
"I'll come up with something," Phoenix said, taking the broken toilet brush from Miles. "I've been meaning to get them to tone down using powers in the office, anyway." He examined the two halves. "Actually, this might be the perfect excuse."
"I don't follow."
"Don't worry about it, just help me clean up." Phoenix grinned, placing the broken brush on the table. "I'll take care of everything. They'll never even know we were here."
***
Looking back, Phoenix should've known the motorcycle that almost ran him down belonged to Klavier Gavin, on his way to the Wright Anything Agency. It was exactly the sort of coincidence that always happened to him. Franziska Von Karma had once said that she didn't know if Phoenix was lucky or unlucky. Phoenix didn't know either, but, going by the events of the past twenty-four hours, his suspicions leaned heavily toward the 'unlucky' category.
(Although he supposed he'd gotten lucky where it counted- having such ridiculous people in his life in the first place.)
***
Apollo's wide eyes darted between Phoenix and Miles, hands still clapped over his mouth. Miles sent him a quizzical look and nodded at Phoenix. "Shall we go?"
"Uh, yeah," Phoenix said. As he stepped forward to join Miles at the door, he tilted his hand so Miles could clearly see him putting the Magatama in his pocket. Come on, Miles, catch on, we can't lie to them, they suspect too much already.
"Wait!" Athena said. "What's going on? Apollo, why are you making that face?"
Apollo lowered his hands. "I'm not making any faces! This is just my face!" His voice was audibly shaking, though, and Athena's eyes narrowed.
"What's happening right now? What did you see with the Magatama?"
At the mention of the Magatama, Phoenix felt Miles tense beside him. "Wright, what exactly have you and your subordinates been discussing?" he muttered.
Phoenix closed his eyes. "It's a long story. Everything got kind of out of hand-"
"And you two!" Athena whirled, pointing at them. "I can hear you whispering! Mr. Wright, I know you're hiding something! You still haven't told us why you want to ban powers in the office!"
Apollo rubbed his forehead. "Trust me, Athena, you don't want to know."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
Phoenix cleared his throat. "Look, the chief prosecutor and I really need to be going." He grabbed Miles' arm, spinning him around toward the door. "Come on."
Miles allowed himself to be led out into the hallway. "What happened in there?" he said under his breath. "It didn't go well?"
"What do you think?"
"Hold it!"
Phoenix turned around, just before they reached the stairs. Athena stood in the doorway, one hand on her hip, the other pointed toward them. Behind her, Apollo had buried his face in his hands again.
Phoenix smiled. "I'm sorry, Athena, we've don't have time for this."
"But..." Athena glanced back helplessly at Apollo behind her. He still looked as though he wanted the ground to open up and swallow him. "But you're lying! I know you are!"
"Daddy's lying?"
Phoenix stifled a groan as Trucy appeared at the bottom of the stairs, backpack slung over her shoulders. She took the stairs two at a time. "What are you lying about, Daddy?"
"Hey, Trucy," Phoenix said, letting go of Miles to hug her. "How was school?"
Trucy pulled back with a smile on her face. "It was great! What are you lying about, Daddy?"
"The toilet brush!" Athena strode forward into the hallway, a look of determination on her face. "Somebody broke it last night, and your dad knows something about it, and he won't tell us!"
"I told you, Athena, I broke the-"
"Last night?" Trucy repeated, and then comprehension dawned on her face. "Oh. Oh." Her eyes became impossibly wide as she looked at Miles and Phoenix standing next to each other, Miles staring pointedly toward the wall. "Oh!"
"What?" Athena asked.
"Nothing!" Trucy said, although the giant grin on her face said otherwise. She hugged Phoenix again, and then turned and threw her arms around Miles for good measure. He stiffened, but returned the hug. "I just- had a really good day at school, that's all!" She gave Phoenix another hug. "A really, really good day!"
Wait, how did Trucy figure us out? Has she been expecting this?
Athena was watching the whole exchange open-mouthed, one hand over Widget. She glanced down at her necklace, as if trying to confirm what she was hearing, and back up at the trio on the top of the stairs. "What's...what's going on?"
"Mr. Wright, please, can we just tell her?" Apollo said, emerging from his hands. "She's going to interrogate me and Trucy the moment you leave."
Phoenix glanced over at Miles. Miles nodded, and Phoenix took his hand. "Athena," he said. "We were hoping to keep it quiet, but Edgeworth and I are headed out on a, uh, date."
He expected Athena's gasp, Trucy's noise of delight, and Apollo's groan. He did not, however, expect a smooth German voice to say "Really?" behind him.
"Oh, for God's sake," Miles muttered, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose as they turned to greet the new intruder. Klavier Gavin stood at the bottom of the stairs, open-mouthed, carrying what looked suspiciously like a new toilet brush under one arm- a toilet brush with a rather ostentatious bow on its handle.
"Prosecutor Gavin," Miles said coolly.
"Herr Edgeworth," Gavin said, look of shock melting into a smile. "I didn't mean to intrude, I was simply making a social call."
Miles's gaze flicked down to the brush, and back up to Gavin's face. "Indeed."
"Did you buy us a new toilet brush?" Trucy said, bouncing down the stairs.
Gavin's eyes were still on Miles. "Uh...ja."
Apollo appeared at Phoenix's elbow, making him flinch. "You did what?"
"Herr Forehead!" Gavin raised the toilet brush in some kind of toast. "To assist you with all of your future toilet-cleaning duties!" His eyes darted around the group, who were all staring at him. "It was, ah, intended to be a joke. I was not expecting..." He gestured vaguely towards Phoenix and Miles. "...everyone to be here."
"Apollo won't be doing toilet duty for a while, though!" Athena said, stepping up beside Apollo. "Mr. Wright confessed to breaking the brush, so he's got two months of toilet duty, although he's still acting weird about it."
She shot him a glare, and he groaned. "Athena..."
"Two months?" Miles mouthed.
"What?" Athena said. "It's great that you and, um, the chief prosecutor are, um, dating, but I still don't get where all the emotional discord in your voice came from! Did you actually break the brush?"
Gavin raised his eyebrows. "That mystery still isn't solved?"
"The mystery isn't solved because it doesn't need to be solved," Apollo said, folding his arms. "Mr. Wright had too much wine, and he broke the brush. That's all there is to it."
Athena gasped. "Wait, but the wine! The two glasses! There was someone else there! Maybe-" Her gaze turned to Miles, and Widget's expression rapidly cycled through shock and fear. "Oh, um, never mind. You're right, Apollo. Mr. Wright broke it. He has to clean the toilets for two months."
"Oh, crap!" Widget added.
Miles began to laugh.
It was such an unexpected sound that even Phoenix stared at him. For a long moment, no one spoke, and Miles kept laughing, hand over his mouth. Eventually, he removed his glasses to wipe his eyes, and cleared his throat. When he spoke, his tone was businesslike again, although he hadn't stopped smirking. "Phoenix, while I was not aware there was a punishment at the time of the crime-"
"Neither was I," Phoenix muttered, shooting a glare at Athena and Apollo.
"-nevertheless, it would be a shame for you to serve the sentence for a crime you didn't commit. Justice must be done. If you like, I can take the punishment instead."
The hallway went dead silent again as, Phoenix assumed, they all tried to picture the dignified chief prosecutor on his knees scrubbing a toilet. Phoenix grinned. "We can negotiate, Miles. It was partially my fault, anyway."
"Gross!" Apollo burst out.
"I didn't mean..." Phoenix shook his head, resigning himself to whatever assumptions the other members of the Wright Anything Agency were going to make about him for the rest of his life. He took Miles's hand. "Come on. If that's everything, the chief prosecutor and I have a date to get to."
"Have a good time!" Trucy said, darting back up the stairs to give him a kiss on the cheek. "Don't stay out too late!"
"Thanks, Trucy." Shouldn't I be the one saying that?
Miles swept his gaze over the group, instantly assuming the power of his job title again. "And we would appreciate if you would be discreet with this...new knowledge you have gained today. We are planning on informing everyone, of course, just not in the first twenty-four hours."
"Of course," Apollo said, still beet red. Athena saluted, and Widget cringed. Trucy and Gavin nodded, too, and Phoenix grabbed Miles's hand, tugging him down the stairs.
As they passed by Gavin, he shifted the toilet brush to his other arm, laying a hand on Miles's shoulder. "Chief Prosecutor," he said. "Gratulation."
Miles nodded. "Danke."
"What was that about?" Phoenix whispered as they continued down the hall.
Miles glanced back. "Mr. Justice is not the only one who thought we weren't being subtle, it seems."
Phoenix followed his gaze. Gavin had climbed the stairs, and he and Apollo were talking intently, Apollo gesturing to the toilet brush. Athena, meanwhile, was giggling at something Trucy said, her hand still covering Widget. "I think my subordinates are terrified of you," Phoenix said.
Miles smirked. "They are." It wasn't a question.
"I wish I could say the same about me."
"It's not a bad thing to be friendly with them," Miles said. "You three- four make a fearsome team, both in and out of court. Your bond is one of your strengths."
"Tell me that again when I manage to keep a secret from them for more than a day," Phoenix said, smiling. He squeezed Miles' hand. "Who would've thought your idea of romance would be offering to clean toilets for me for two months?"
Miles scowled. "I recall mention of negotiations-"
"It's just like Gavin buying Apollo a new brush," Phoenix said cheerfully. He glanced back. Trucy and Athena had disappeared into the office, but Gavin and Apollo were still in the hall, standing almost too close to each other. He couldn't hear what they were saying, but Apollo's smile spoke volumes. "For...whatever's going on between them."
He fingered the Magatama in his pocket. It seemed monumentally unfair for him to be interrogated until his secret relationship was revealed, and yet no one questioned Gavin bringing Apollo a new toilet brush, wrapped up in a bow, less than an hour after finding out the old brush was broken, as part of a 'joke'.
"Don't," Miles said, eyes following the movement of his hand.
Phoenix sighed. "I won't. I'm the boss, right? I have to follow my own rules. No more powers in the office."
Miles nodded. "That, and I'd rather not spend our first date trying to figure out if our subordinates are dating."
"Don't worry," Phoenix said, grinning. "I've got much more pleasant things to think about."
If Phoenix had looked back, in the last second before they turned a corner and were out of sight of the stairs, he might have witnessed decisive evidence of what, exactly, was going on between Klavier and Apollo. But Phoenix didn't turn, and Miles smiled to himself, and the mystery remained a mystery.

(Coda)
"You know what's weird?" Athena said, fiddling with her earring.
"That Prosecutor Gavin bought us a new toilet brush?" Trucy said. She crossed to Phoenix's desk, gathering up the cards scattered all over its surface.
"No," Athena said. "I mean, everyone knows why he did that. No, the thing with the toilet brush had me thinking- when was the last time you were on toilet duty?"
Trucy straightened, happy her back was to Athena so she couldn't see the look of horror on Trucy's face. She pasted on her best magician's smile and turned around. "What do you mean?"
"Well, we worked out a schedule, and it's supposed to be all four of us, but you and Mr. Wright never do it," Athena said. "I mean, it should have been your turn at some point in the past month, but we kept restarting the order because the schedule was-" She paused, eyes narrowing in accusation. "...destroyed in a magic trick. Twice."
What's a magician's best trick? Redirect their attention! Luckily for her, a distraction appeared in the form of Apollo in the doorway. He had a tiny smile on his face, both more pleased and more private than his usual grin, and the bow-clad toilet brush was tucked underneath his arm.
"Polly, did your boyfriend already leave?" Trucy asked. "I wanted to thank him for the new brush!"
"Yeah, he had to-" Apollo began, and then his smile vanished. "Wait, boyfriend?"
Trucy assumed an expression of innocence. "Isn't he?"
"What?" Apollo looked between her and Athena, backing up. "Trucy, we just had an office meeting about this! We're not going to pry into each other's personal lives anymore!"
"Technically, it was just about using powers to pry into each other's personal lives," Athena pointed out.
Trucy nodded. "Plus, I wasn't here for it, so I can still pry!"
"No, we're not dating!" Apollo said, flushing. "You guys are so weird! This is why we had to pretend last night was an investigation! Can't two men go out for dinner and drinks together without it being a date?"
"But sharing a motorcycle-" Athena began.
Apollo gesticulated wildly, waving the toilet brush. "It was the fastest way there!"
"And he keeps calling you all of those German pet names when he thinks we're not listening," Trucy added.
"How did you- no, that's- that's just how he is!" Apollo said. "He treats everyone like that!"
It took one look at Athena's expression for Trucy to confirm that, no, she was not crazy, and yes, Prosecutor Gavin did not treat everyone like that. "Okay, Polly," Trucy said cheerfully. "If you say so."
Apollo threw up his hands in defeat. "Ugh, all of you are impossible. I'm going to put the new brush away in the bathroom." He stormed off, slamming the door behind him.
Athena was first to break the ensuing silence. "Do you think he knows he walked into the evidence room?"
"He'll figure it out," Trucy said, and Apollo stormed out of the evidence room, sent them another glare, and stormed into the bathroom. Somehow, him slamming the door a second time didn't have quite the same weight behind it.
When Trucy looked back at Athena, Athena was already eyeing her. "I haven't forgotten about you destroying the chore schedules, you know," she said pleasantly.
Darn.

It’s Been A While Since I’ve Been Tagged! But Here You Go!
I was tagged by @misteria247! Thank you very much! It’s been some time since I’ve been tagged!
What do you prefer to be called name-wise?
Selena or Nia, if you guys don’t mind.
When is your birthday?
June 9th!
Where do you live?
The US, as most could tell by me reblogging so much US election and voting stuff a few days ago.
Three things you’re doing right now?
Listening to music, trying to relax and typing this tag out!
Four fandoms that peaked your interest?
Hmmmm. I’ll say Twisted Wonderland is the one I’m most interested in right now, as you can tell if you know I have a TWST side blog. Other than that, I’ve gotten back into the remake of Fruits Basket, the Scarlet Pimpernel, and Good Omens.
How has the pandemic been treating you?
All things considered, everything’s okay for me. I have been affected financially and mentally, but I haven’t lost everything and everybody I know IRL is doing okay from what I know, so I consider it a pretty good.
A song you can’t stop listening to recently?
Wait A Minute! - Willow Smith (Namely this slowed down version I found)
Miss Jackson - Panic! At the Disco (Also a slowed down version I found)
They’re Only Human - Death Note Musical Cast
Madame Guillotine, The Creation of Man and Into the Fire - The Scarlet Pimpernel Musical Cast
Recommend a movie?
I recently rewatched the Emperor’s New Groove recently. I think it’s pretty funny.
How old are you?
20.
School, university, occupation, etc, -
I mean, I’ve been through my country’s education system besides college, which I'm saving up for currently. Currently in training and looking for a job.
Do you prefer heat or cold?
Heat! While I grew up in a cold area, I really appreciate warm weather and rain.
Name one fact others don’t know about you!
I used to be insecure about having big boobs because most of the peers I was close with had small boobs, so I guess there’s one stereotype broken for those who stuffed their bras. It also made my first encounter with guys who like boobs at my middle school and learning society and and some people online saying they liked big boobs suuuuuuuuuuper weird for me.
Are you shy?
I’m shy because I’m socially anxious! But, yeah. I am. Especially around new people.
Preferred pronouns?
She/her
Biggest Pet Peeve?
I don’t usually think about it, but I guess it’s just hypocritical people in general.
Favorite ‘Dere’ type?
Deredere!
Rate your life from 1-10 -
I don’t think i can do that from an object standpoint, as I’m super emotional and really not the person who knows everything about my life. But, I’d say compared to others, it’s a 5. I think I live an average life.
Main blog?
You’ve found it! It’s @selenecrown!
Is there something that people need to know before they become friends with you?
I’m kinda of a walking pile of emotional garbage, so I may say or do things at others might see as jumping the gun, but I have good intentions, or that’s what people say, I promise!
Tagging, IF YOU WANT TO!: @gayangryspacedorito @dascanadiansparkle @ayahoes @memeticallyengineered
