Regarding that music reblog can u drop some music recommendations 🙏🙏🙏
ABSOLUTELY I LOVE THIS QUESTION the day has finally come when someone has asked me for music recs 🤞🤞 (i didn't know what to start with so ur gonna get a bunch of random artists i like)
also if anyone wants to ask for recs for anything at all (like books, fics, writers, etc.) pls ask!! i love sharing 🥳
beabadoobee — i love love love her new album this is how tomorrow goes, its 10/10 and every time she makes rock music adjacent she never fails to eat down and devour. my recs for her are beaches, take a bite, cologne, talk and ripples because they all have a sort of nostalgic vibe. like they're somehow so familiar even though you've never heard them before. i love beabadoobee she's so good at what she does.
hozier — okay i know he's lowkey middle aged woman core but his lyricism AND production are literally unmatched i get why the lesbians love him. I'd recommend dinner and diatribes, jackie and wilson, northern attitude (by noah kahan ft hozier), angel of small death and the codeine scene and movement 🙏 his music makes me absolutely ascend to a different plane of existence.
laufey — call me a basic asian all you want but laufey synthesises older jazz/classical sound with modern lyricism and structure and creates something so beautiful i love her so much and i regret missing out on her concert tickets every day. i love love love night light, must be love, let you break my heart again, dreamer and lovesick, all her instrumentals never miss. her songwriting is also top notch and gives young, dumb and in love energy ykwim 😍
taylor swift — HEAR ME OUT her new album specifically the anthology half of ttpd has like no skips and i will die on this hill. her older music is good too but i am here to talk about the anthology. the anthology has 10/10 songwriting and minimal production which makes the lyrics stand out more and i love it. i'd recommend the black dog, the prophecy, how did it end and peter because they make me want to scream and cry tbh. also good inspo for fic writing LOL
billie eilish — i have been a fan of hers since my emo phase in 2018 and i can confirm that finneas' production is genius. honestly i recommend the entirety of hit me hard and soft because it was meant to be listened to continuously with all the melodic motifs and lyrical motifs but yeah. also no time to die was a cultural shift that changed my brains hardwiring.
chase atlantic — okay wild 360 from billie eilish and soft ballads (and this artist has lowkey been ruined for me by a certain someone..) but they do have bangers 🎉 i love heaven and back, right here, die for me and dancer in the dark, their music is really sexual though so uh parental guidance 🤞
the neighbourhood — i love love love the vibe of their discography and even though their music might be counted as "tiktok" music because of some of their popular songs they're still so good. I recommend reflections, compass, devil's advocate and stargazing. introspective kinda vibes with their music yk.
the arctic monkeys — I LOVE THEM AND i regret not going to their tour every single hour. alex turner might be a grandpa but i love his accent in his songs and the production is literally liquid gold. pls listen to stop the world i wanna get off with you, snap out of it, fluorescent adolescent, you're so dark, one for the road, and honestly their entire AM album. It's their most popular for a good reason i fear.
i feel like i've rambled way too much but i do have more if you'd like. can you tell i'm a mainstream music kinda person with a couple less popular artists 😭😭 ANYWAY THANK YOU FOR ASKING I LOVE SHARING MUSIC AND DISCUSSING MUSIC ITS THAT INNER MUSIC NERD WITHIN ME if you'd like classical music recs however i'd be too scared to say anything at fear of invoking the wrath of my other classically trained musicians

ash’s g.o.a.t. list (part one?) [spotify]
this playlist includes a few songs ash would include in his “greatest of all time” song list (and many have influenced his own music creation). this playlist is not in any specific order or all-inclusive of all of the songs ash would consider the greatest of all time.
i. all too well - taylor swift.
this one is a given on any list of this kind. ash was already into songwriting when red came out, but when he heard “all too well” for the first time, he realized he wanted to write songs like it. he wanted to be a songwriter who could tell a captivating story and make anyone who listened feel the emotions he was trying to convey, even if they’d never been through the situation themselves. “all too well” could be blamed for ash’s struggle to de-personalize his songwriting, but it can also be credited for his own realization of who he wanted to be as a songwriter.
ii. take me to church - hozier.
“take me to church” is a song ash never gets tired of. hozier’s debut studio album could be credited in general as a piece of art, in ash’s opinion, but take me to church blew up for a reason. he can’t even describe what it is about “take me to church” or hozier’s music in general that is so powerful to him, but hozier’s music without a doubt inspired ash’s tendency for metaphor and poetic language in his lyrics. it’s how powerful the song feels to ash that has landed it a spot on his greatest songs of all time list. ash also has a huge crush on hozier.
iii. call out my name - the weeknd.
ash does not shut up about this song. again, it’s about the feelings it elicits in him. it’s the perfect mix of lyrical storytelling, production, and vocal delivery. if “all too well” is a masterclass in lyric-writing to him, “call out my name” is a masterclass in every piece fitting perfectly together to create an all-consuming atmosphere for the listener.
iv. tears in the rain - the weeknd.
another one that just hits ash in his emotional core. it’s the mix of regret, hopelessness, and disillusion that captivates him.
v. new year’s day - taylor swift.
this is the only song on this list ash has ever taken it upon himself to cover without fear of not doing justice to it stopping him. out of all of the other songs on the list, this isn’t one he’s likely to bring up at first thought when asked about his favorite songs, but it has a way of sticking with him that gives it a place on his list.
vi. can’t help falling in love  - elvis presley.
this could be the elvis presley version or the ingrid michaelson cover, to be honest. ash thinks they both have their own merits. this makes the list because ash considers it one of the most romantic songs of all time. “ take my hand, take my whole life, too”? yeah, that shit fucks him up. he’d like to release a studio cover of the song one day.
vii. run away with me - carly rae jepsen.
ash has the very popular opinion that carly rae jepsen has several great examples of pop perfection in her discography, and “run away with me” is her best, in his opinion. it’s not easy for an upbeat song to make this list, so that’s all the more credit to how much ash loves this song. on the not-so-frequent occasions when ash writes upbeat, feelgood pop music, this is what he’s going for.
viii. liability - lorde.
has anyone ever told ash he’s too much for them? not really. has anyone even ever actually dumped ash? uh... no. does ash still think lorde specifically wrote for him to cry to? yes. that’s why it’s here.

1. What kinds of genres of music do you listen to? >> It’d be easier to name the genres I don’t listen to...
2. Are there any types of music that you don’t listen to at all? >> ...which would be bluegrass, polka, uh... noise... K-pop... yeah, that’s all I got right now. Honestly, K-pop is probably only here because I just haven’t gone to check out any songs, not because I actively don’t like the genre.
3. Do you own any band tees? >> Yeah, most of my t-shirts are band shirts.
4. Name some of your favorite male solo artists. >> Eddie Vedder, David Bowie, Steve Vai, Orville Peck, Sam Cooke.
5. Name some of your favorite female solo artists. >> Elle King, Sia, Beyoncé, Anita Baker, Céline Dion.
6. Name some of your favorite boy-bands. >> Okay, so are we talking boy bands, like Backstreet Boys and One Direction, or just bands with dudes in them? Because I don’t really listen to boy bands anymore (aside from songs that I remember from childhood), so.
7. Name some of your favorite all-girl bands. >> Hmm... I’m not sure I listen to any all-female bands. There’s some female-fronted bands in my library, but the rest of the members are dudes.
8. Name some of your favorite bands/groups in general. >> Oof. Here’s five: Zeal & Ardor, Coheed & Cambria, Pearl Jam, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Volbeat.
9. Do you sing in the shower? >> Sometimes, if a song I know the lyrics to is playing. I listen to music every time I shower, it helps distract my hell brain.
10. Do you sing along with the radio in the car? >> I don’t sing along in the car because Sparrow has a thing about people singing.
11. Do you listen to music while you are cooking, filling out surveys, or cleaning the house? >> Sometimes I listen to music while taking surveys, but I don’t do it often because I find it too distracting. I do listen to music while cleaning, or taking walks, or doing any other task that mostly involves my body more than my brain.
12. What’s the name of the song that you’re listening to right now, if any? What’s the name of the band/singer? >> I’m not listening to music.
13. What kinds of music do your parents listen to? Do you think that their music taste differs greatly? Whose music taste is better, in your opinion? >> I grew up listening to soul, R&B, gospel, that sort of thing. I still listen to that stuff because I enjoy it.
14. Do you ever listen to music without any words? >> Sure.
15. Are there any famous musicians that you’ve met? Are there any that you would like to meet? >> Yeah, I’ve met uhh... Avenged Sevenfold, Coheed & Cambria, and Sevendust multiple times, as well as Halestorm, Steve Vai, three-quarters of Volbeat (lead singer wasn’t feeling great so he left the venue early)... yeah, I think that’s it. I used to be really into that kind of thing, but I’m largely over it now; I actually think it would be cool to see Sparrow meet Hozier, because she’s not had that experience.
16. What was the first concert you’ve been to, if any? How about the last/most recent? Which, out of all of the concerts you’ve attended, was the best? >> First concert was Avenged Sevenfold and Coheed & Cambria (co-headliner tour), in Asbury Park, New Jersey, in April 2006. The last concert I went to was Hozier here in Grand Rapids, last year sometime. I think it was last year. :x My time sense is all fucked up. Anyway, I’ve been to way too many concerts to start naming one as the best one ever, that’s crazy. Most of the shows I’ve been to were awesome as fuck (there were a couple ehhhh... ones, and then there was one I was way too high to enjoy lmao, but usually I have a great time).
17. Do you have a favorite movie soundtrack? What is it? >> I have a favourite movie soundtrack composer, actually, and that’s Clint Mansell. Everything he does is just... AAAAAAAAA for me. I can always tell when he’s done a score because I can just feel the music in my bones, and then I look at the credits and I’m like “OH OF COURSE IT WAS YOU.”
18. Would you want to be a band groupie? Why or why not? >> I had a phase way back when where I was obsessed with groupie culture (from like the late sixties through the eighties) and if you’d asked me then, I’d have said yes. I’ve wised up by now and I definitely would not want that.
19. What is a band/singer you would like to see but haven’t gotten a chance to yet? >> Yeah, there’s a lot of bands and singers like that. But I’d have to be really picky nowadays about who I went to see, because I just can’t deal with most concert environments as well as I used to anymore.
20. Do you care more about the beat of the music you listen to, or the lyrics? >> I mean, when it comes to the first listen, it’s going to be the melody that catches me. If that doesn’t happen, then I’m not even going to bother looking at the lyrics, so...
21. Does anyone in one of your favorite bands play an unusual instrument? >> I listen to some prog bands, so there’s definitely some unusual instruments happening in at least some songs.
22. What are some of the songs that you listen to the most frequently? >> I don’t know, probably Master Boot Record and Zeal & Ardor tracks. I’m a bit obsessed right now.
23. Could you make a playlist of songs that describes your life? What kinds of playlists do you have made? >> I don’t think so. I’ve definitely tried in the past, but when you really start thinking about the vast array of experiences and feelings that make up a life, it becomes fuckin impossible.
24. Do you remember listening to music on CDs and cassettes, not just on the internet? >> Yeah. Definitely don’t miss it, gotta say.
25. What kind of music device do you use in order to listen to music? (iPod, MP3 Player, etc.) >> I use my phone or computer, with Spotify.
26. Is there anyone in your family who is a musician? >> ---
27. Would you ever consider a career in music? >> No. I love music, but as a consumer.
28. What is a song that would describe your current mood? Who is it by? >> I’m not really in any kind of mood. If you know a song about being vaguely tired, then that’s it.
29. Are there any musicians of the past that you really admire? >> Well, sure...
30. Do you listen to Top 40 type music? >> I don’t even know what’s on the Top 40, so... maybe? Probably not, though, I haven’t really gotten into any mainstream-popular artists recently that I can think of.
31. What musical instrument would you like to learn how to play? Have you ever played an instrument before/taken lessons? What was it? >> I don’t really care to learn any instruments. It’s not something I feel passionate about, not like how I feel about listening to music. I’ve taken bass guitar lessons before, in like... 2008 or so? IDK. Years are fake.
32. Do you enjoy watching musicals on DVD or sitting through them as plays? Which method do you prefer, and which is your favorite? >> I would love to watch musicals live, but I definitely cannot afford it. I’m fine watching recordings of them (or movie adaptations, in some cases). My favourite stage musical is Phantom of the Opera (I say “stage musical” because I also have a favourite movie musical, and that’s Repo! the Genetic Opera).
33. What was the worst concert you’ve ever attended before, and what made it the worst? >> Taste of Chaos at Nassau Coliseum. It was the worst because arena shows are just the worst, period. I was right up in front (my friends and I camped out overnight) and I just got repeatedly slammed against the barricade and crowd-surfers landed on my head multiple times, et cetera. I’m surprised I didn’t leave with actual injuries (was wondering if I was gonna need a neck brace by the end), but I did feel pretty damn shitty the next day.
34. Have you ever crowd-surfed during a show or been a part of a mosh pit? >> Nope.
35. Have you ever gotten into an altercation with a drunken concert fan before? What happened? >> Nah, everyone I’ve met at shows have been pretty cool, if not downright awesome. That’s one thing I always loved about going to concerts, I seemed to make new friends every time.
36. Have you ever dated someone who was a musician? >> No, but I’ve fucked a few.
37. What are some of your favorite music videos to watch? >> Oh, man, it’s getting late and while I could go ham on this question, I don’t have the time right now lol. I’ll just say that I love nineties-era music videos, and some from the aughts as well. I feel like those were the best years for music videos, but that might just be nostalgia (and the fact that I haven’t really seen as many videos from the 2010s). As far as recent artists are concerned, I think Orville Peck makes really evocative and moody (not necessarily moody like pensive or depressive. mood-y. mood-evoking) videos that I appreciate.
38. Have you ever made a lyric video on YouTube? >> No.
39. Have you ever recorded a cover song and posted it? What kind of feedback did you receive? >> No.
40. Is there an album cover design that you really admire? >> I’ve seen so many excellent album covers, I couldn’t even begin to address this.
41. What are some of the most overplayed songs right now, in your opinion? >> I wouldn’t know, I don’t listen to radio or anything.
42. Do you watch music awards shows on television? >> No.
43. Have you ever competed in any sort of singing contest before? >> No.
44. Have you ever tried to start your own band before? >> No.
45. What’s the name of a band/singer that you recently have discovered? >> Dreamcar (yet another Davey Havok side project, because he just can’t be tamed, apparently).
46. What are some annoying/weird/funny songs that have gotten stuck in your head before? >> Barbara Ann gets stuck in my head all the time, but that’s okay because it’s fun and I love it.
47. Are there any songs that actually make you cry? What are they, and who are they by? >> There are many songs that make me cry. We ain’t got time for a list like that.
48. Do you listen to any music in another language? >> Sure. Off the top of my head, I can think of fave songs in German, Swedish, Japanese, Indian, and Italian. [a-zebra-is-a-striped-horse]

-------------------------------------
The excitement over lighting the bulb was short-lived. After the first lightbulb, Rhonda had gotten ambitious and stole a few bulbs of various sizes from a supply closet. In her practice room, she laid them in a circle on the floor and stood in the middle. She had worked at it for nearly an hour, and though maybe she should have been glad she could now get them to flicker without touching them, she was frustrated with being hard-pressed to do more than flicker.
She stepped out of her circle of bulbs and paused the top 40 pop song playing on her phone. “Sia,” she muttered with annoyance, “Thinks she’s an artsy Rihanna or some shit.” She huffed and started searching on her music app, “I need something I know.”
Rhonda’s taste in music was all over the place, but mostly gravitated to two moods: Marilyn Manson, System of a Down, and Rammstein, or Missy Elliot, Christina Aguilera, and Destiny’s Child. She found a playlist fitting that second mood and started nodding her head to a bass beat that would have some good thump on better speakers. Without thinking about it, her feet started moving and her hips winding. Her old, worn dance hoodie found its way off her body, tossed carelessly on the slightly dusty hardwood floor. The familiarity of the beat and the sexy, unapologetic lyrics had Rhonda turning and stepping all over the room, whipping her hair and sweeping her arms in powerful arcs. She smiled, and sparks lit from her cheeks and fingers. The bulbs didn’t light, but she wasn’t even thinking about those anymore except to step around them. Movement, and the freedom it gave her, dissipated all her frustrations as long as she could feel the floor under her feet. Song by song, she felt better, until--
“We should find you some twerk tutorials,” someone said flatly from the doorway.
Startled, Rhonda’s rhythm broke and she ducked into a low fighting stance.
Ellie was leaning against the door frame. Her smile faded when she realized why there was a rule about not startling Rhonda. “Sorry, um,” Ellie edged into the room. “I know I should knock or something--”
“How long were you standing there?” Rhonda’s heart was racing, and she tried to breathe slowly, force herself to calm down, and not let on how scared she was for that split second.
The teen raised her shoulders and answered, “Just...two and a half songs? I forgot how cool it is to watch you go.”
Rhonda paused the music. She wanted to fuss at Ellie, but couldn’t make herself do it. Instead, she asked curtly, “What’s up?” Acutely conscious that her arms were bare, Rhonda snatched her hoodie off the floor and quickly pulled it back over her head.
For someone who kept a stony face so often, Ellie had an absolutely darling smile. When she grinned, Rhonda saw the little girl who used to play with black nail polish and liked trying on Rhonda’s X-Men boots. “Colossus said to come get you, lunch’ll be ready soon.”
Rhonda couldn’t resist smiling a little herself. “All right. Give me a minute to put the tripping hazards away.”
Ellie helped her box up the dozen or so new lightbulbs. “So? Who are you liking on that playlist we made?”
She snickered more than she meant to, “Well, not Sia.”
Scrunching her nose, Ellie shook her head, “She’s overplayed.”
“Panic! At the Disco is fun, though,” Rhonda stacked the boxed lightulbs neatly on the floor by the wall. “I dunno why I wasn’t always into them, they’re great.”
Ellie beamed, “They did get better, though.”
They finished the bulbs and headed down the hall toward the stairs. “I’m not wild about the new Metallica album,” Rhonda admitted glumly, “Nothing tops their old stuff, I guess.”
The younger woman carefully rubbed her eye without smudging her eyeliner. “Nah, but it’s better than St. Anger.”
Scoffing, Rhonda muttered, “Anything’s better than that shitstack.”
“Have you listened to Hozier yet?”
“Who?”
“Ho--” Ellie stopped and dropped her voice to a whisper. “Hozier. Yukio would give me a ton of shit for this, because I tell her I don’t like him, but,” she grabbed Rhonda’s shoulder and stared her hard in the eyes. “He’s objectively good. You gotta try him. The whole album.”
“Okay,” Rhonda chuckled, “It’ll be the next thing I listen to.” She gave a sidelong glance, “Why did you tell Yukio you don’t like him?”
Ellie rolled her eyes so hard it was a wonder she didn’t knock herself unconscious. “When ‘Take Me to Church’ first dropped, it was super overplayed and everyone and their mom was obsessed with it. It is pretty good, though.”
They started walking again. Ellie said under her breath, “And if he does a show anywhere near here, we’re going.” When Rhonda gave her a sidelong glance, she added, “For Yukio.”
“You two seem really good together,” Rhonda hooked her arm through Ellie’s.
Let the record show: young badass Negasonic Teenage Warhead was blushing. She said through gritted teeth, “She’s the best and I would kill for her.”
Rhonda thought she might rupture a sinus from how hard she was trying not to laugh. “Yeah?”
“Also?” Ellie slowed her walk.
“Hm?”
“She wanted me to ask you if, uh, if you’d let her,” Ellie winced, “Fix your hair?”
Tugging a strand of frizzy, mousy colored hair, Rhonda scrunched her mouth to one side, “It’s pretty crusty, huh? I dunno how all this grey got here.”
Ellie playfully shoved her with her shoulder, loosening their linked arms as they went down the stairs. “You used to tell me you started going grey at fourteen and that’s why you dyed your hair every color you could find!”
“You remember that?” Rhonda’s jaw dropped. “That was a secret!”
“I never told anyone,” she giggled.
“You told me just now!” Rhonda was laughing too.
Ellie laughed harder, “You--but? You’re the one who told me!”
On the first floor, they passed a parlor that was used as an office now. The door was open and Rhonda saw a familiar form. “Hey, Ellie?” Rhonda pulled away. “I’ll meet you in the kitchen, ok? Tell Piotr I’ll just be a minute.” With a nod, Ellie broke away and walked off.
Nerves making her chest tight, Rhonda hesitated by the door, debating whether she should enter at all.
Michelle sighed and without looking up from her work at the desk, said, “Either come in, or keep walking, Rhonda.”
Taking a deep breath, Rhonda forced herself to walk calmly into the room. She cleared her throat and nodded, “Michelle?”
“So you do know my name,” Michelle turned and stood--and looked down at Rhonda with a chilled glare.
Finally giving her a good look, Rhonda realized Michelle was tall. She had to be about six feet tall, built like a mythical queen with long, willowy limbs and a perfect bunch of thick, dark curls bouncing just past her shoulders. Her skin was such a warm, glowing sepia brown, Rhonda guessed she would shine like a human chunk of tiger’s eye if she stepped in the sun. She was gorgeous. It was no surprise she’d caught Piotr’s eye--she looked like an exquisite sculpture in a museum.
Rhonda, by comparison, was shorter, stockier, and though she was looking much better than a few weeks ago, would still compare herself to a pile of dry leaves.
Michelle impatiently drummed her fingers on the edge of her desk, “Is there something you want?”
“I am...I’m sorry...about before.” Rhonda looked like she was going to choke from trying so hard to swallow her pride. “I should have said thank you.” She stole a glance at Michelle’s face, then looked down to fidget with the hem of her hoodie. “You made Piotr happy at a time when...that probably wasn’t easy. And he, um, ha,” she forced a light laugh, “He deserves every ounce of happiness he can get, right?” She was nervous and uncomfortable under Michelle’s gaze. She sighed and looked up at her again, “You took care of him. Thank you. I dunno if we’ll ever be friends, but...I don’t want to be enemies.”
Michelle gave her a stern up-and-down glance with her golden hazel eyes. “He really believes you’re still some kind of sweetheart. This is the first time I’m tempted to believe that.”
She moved suddenly, and Rhonda instinctively took a quick step back. Michelle rifled through a few papers on her desk before grabbing a business card, holding it up, but not extending it to Rhonda just yet. “You still haven’t been to see Charles.”
Rhonda’s jaw worked, “Not yet.” She realized Michelle was tense too.
The taller woman shrugged with one shoulder, conceding, “Look, I get it. If you’d rather talk to someone else, this is a colleague of mine.” Finally, she held out the business card for Rhonda.
Both were careful not to let their fingers touch as Rhonda took the card. She fidgeted with the corners with her fingernails, looking at the name and phone number for a therapist who specialized in mutants. “He’s not a telepath?”
Michelle huffed and rolled her eyes, “He’s not, but what do you have against us?”
To retort, Rhonda raised her eyebrows and tossed her head, over-enunciating for sassy effect, “If I wanted to talk about it, I’d say so, out loud, with my noisy face hole.”
“Whatever,” she adjusted back to her seat and got back to work. “I just better not hear about you stabbing anyone else.”
As she edged out of the office, Rhonda grumbled under her breath, “Like you’ve never wanted to stab Kurt. Have you met him?” By the time she reached the kitchen, she'd stashed the card in her hoodie pocket.

I adore you for all of the music references in your fics. Do you have a playlist?
I adore you for noticing and asking this question! Like mostwriters, I rely on music BIG TIME for inspiration. I don’t have any playlistscreated, but here’s a little masterlist of songs I’ve referred to in my writingthat usually play some kind of role. Warning, it ended up way longer than Irealized lol
Darling, So it Goes“Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley – Okay, don’t we ALL fantasizeabout Shawn singing this song to us acapella? That old clip of him singing it?Kill me. The title of this one-shot comes from that song as well, of course.
Take Me Back to theStart“The Scientist” by Coldplay – I think this would be Shawn’s go-to breakup song, the one he’d play on repeat to try to process his feelings. Which is exactly whatI had him do when he and Alex hit the rocks. Naturally, that’s where the titlecomes from as well.
Every Little Part ofMe is Holding on to Every Little Piece of You
“End of the Road” by Boyz II Men – Just as The Scientist isShawn’s go-to heartache song, Alex’s is End of the Road. Her mantra is “if thelove don’t feel like 90s R&B, I don’t want it”. Also, I have to admit I kindof stole this from my OG crush Seth Cohen, as that was his “play on repeat”breakup song.
“Water Runs Dry” by Boyz II Men – Alex’s backup song to cryto, which is playing when Shawn shows up.
“I’ll Make Love to You” by Boyz II Men – Sensing a theme? Luckily,Boyz II Men is there for you both in times of sadness and times of makeup sex. Andas Shawn knows, Alex cannot resist a slow jam.
“Tough” by Lewis Capaldi – I took the title from the lyricsof this song. Lewis Capaldi is one of my favorite artists to listen to forangst/fluff inspiration.
Wouldn’t Fall forSomeone I Thought Couldn’t Misbehave
“Nobody” by Hozier – This one-shot is all about Shawn’sjealousy over her fangirling for Hozier. So it was a no-brainer to choose aHozier lyric as the title, which comes from this song.
“Movement” by Hozier – I don’t call this song out by name, but it’s the one I imagine her teasing him to in the car. It’s just a hell of asultry song and would have definitely driven Shawn even further up the wall.
Put in Work
“All Mine” by Kanye West – As we ALL know by this point, Kanyeis Shawn’s go-to gym music. When it comes to a one-shot that’s literallyuncalled for fantasy gym smut, what song would have been more fitting? Yeah, you supermodel thick, damn, that assbustin’ out the bottom, I'ma lose my mind in it. Definitely the wordspounding through Shawn’s airpods while watching Alex on the stair climber.
Bonus: “Skin” by Rihanna – Alex is a freak too, let’s bereal. Although I didn’t mention it in the fic, her gym play list is 100% heavyon Rihanna. This is the song that ends up on repeat anytime she watches Shawnlifting.
Might Just Be MyEverything and Beyond
“What’s Your Fantasy” by Ludacris ft Shawna – If you’re alate 90s baby and don’t know this song? You won’t understand how ridiculous itis that it’s Alex’s go-to karaoke song.
“Beyond” by Leon Bridges – For one, this is an altogetherbeautiful song. I listened to the acoustic version non-stop while writing thisone-shot and thus it’s where the title comes from. Just the kind of fluffyboyfriend vibes I imagined Shawn feeling waiting for his girl to come home.
“Lost in Japan – Remix” – Okay, ya’ll know this one. But I’mmentioning it anyways since it pops up in the insta story of Alex jamming outto it pool side, a proud girlfriend hyped for her man.
Slow Burn
“There’s No Way” by Lauv ft Julia Michaels – This songinspired the entire fic, tbh. It’s the definition of a Slow Burn song.
“American Girl” by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – Only mentionedin passing, but Shawn and co realize at some point early in the European legthat if you play this song? Alex loses her fucking shit. Even if she’s having abad time, cranky, pissy, argumentative, what have you – this song gets her to shoutalong and dance like the happiest little bean on earth. So it becomes a runninggag for them to play it whenever possible, just to watch the only American chickin the bar go nuts.
“Free Fallin’” by Top Petty and the Heartbreakers (but alsohave the live John Mayer cover in mind) – As slightly established in the firstchapter, Alex is a huge Petty fan. In chapter six, this is the song Shawn isattempting to teach her on the guitar. The one she’s too impatient to learn andmakes him just play for her instead.
“Feels Great” – Cheat Codes ft Fetty Wap & CVBZ – I couldn’tthink of a better song for the “young crew” to be listening to during a heated pre-showping pong game in the green room. It’s just a fun fucking song about beingyoung. That’s all.
“Outta My Head” by Khalid ft John Mayer – This is the songAlex is mumbling in the elevator before everything…intensifies. No deep reason here, I just bet they’ve all beenlistening to Khalid’s new album a ton and that song is a bop. Oh, and I GUESSthe lyrics are kind of fitting…. Can youfeel the tension? You’ve got my attention, I know we’re just friends but I’drather be together.
“Power Over Me” by Dermot Kennedy – These are the lyrics Iuse in the opening of the second chapter and a song that definitely inspired my interms of Shawn’s feelings for Alex. Especially early on, when everything isstill completely unspoken. Honestly, Dermot’s music has inspired me A LOT whilewriting this fic, so check him out if you’re not familiar.
“Uh Huh” by Julia Michaels – First off, Julia is a QUEEN. Hervibe is something I picture for Alex so I listen to Julia a lot particularlywhen writing more deeply from Alex’s point of view. Hence using it as theopening lyrics for chapter three. This is definitely a song that demonstrateshow Alex’s mind and body are at odds over her feelings for Shawn.
“Lost” by Dermot Kennedy – Again, on a constant Dermot kick. His lyrics are so poetic and it’s impossible not to take inspiration from him.I used his lyrics to open chapter four and I think they perfectly describe theatmosphere of that night in Krakow. I particularly love the lyric “since thatnight the moon has never looked the same” which I think perfectly puts the wayShawn and Alex both feel after that turning point of a night, dancing oncobblestone streets in the moonlight. Yep. Lost in feels again.
“Can I Be Him” by James Arthur – The perfect song about aguy falling for a girl that’s already attached. Because using TYB would havebeen to on the nose, haha.
“Peer Pressure” by James Bay ft Julia Michaels – If you’veread chapter six, it’s pretty obvious why I used these lyrics to start itoff. Generally, it’s another song I’ve listened to a lot while writing Slow Burn.It seems fitting for two people that are used to being in control of themselvesand their emotions but losing that control and giving into one another.
Look How They ShineFor You (Slow Burn Bonus)
“Yellow” by Coldplay – This song is a HUGE part of this littleblurb and I highly recommend listening to it while you read that one. It’sbeautiful as a piano cover and if you’ve ever heard the Vitamin String Quartetversion??? Jesus. Let’s just say that’s going to be the song Alex walks downthe aisle to someday. Now I’m all in my feels.
BONUS: Current Songson Repeat While I Write
Pretty much all of Lizzo’s “Cuz I Love You” album. It puts me in a kickass mood. That’s all.
“Falling like the Stars” by James Arthur – It’s just a sweetsong that makes me want to write Shawn and Alex all loved up.
“Wilderness” by Jon Bryant – See above. A song that makes mea soft little puddle of inspo.
“Can I be Honest?” by Anatu ft Zubi – I don’t know how Istumbled across this song but it’s fucking fantastic and you should listen toit.
“Night Moves” by Bob Seger – Alex is a classic rock junkie,if she could time travel she’d head straight back to the 70s (possibly the 60sso she could live through both decades). That’s her entire aesthetic, honestly. This is the type of song she puts on to dance around her hotel room while Shawnbegs her to hurry up and get ready to leave.
“Drive” by The Cars – Honestly, this is just a personalfavorite of mine because there’s something so 80s RomCom about being drivenhome by a guy you have romantical tension with. Maybe it just very, veryspecifically relates to my high school experience. A song that puts me in a starry-eyed,butterflies in the stomach type of writing mood.

The Scientist (Chapter 28)
Summary: In the events following Asgard’s destruction, Loki finds himself on Earth seeking refuge to await the inevitable. Much to his surprise, it comes from a source he would never have expected.

The Soundtrack So Far
Warnings: domestic fluff
Word count: 4k
A/N:  Ugh, another long boy. Oh well, gear up, y'all. First off, I'm still a ball of anxiety and sadness about Endgame and knowing that a good portion of the trailers isn't real sure makes it worse. But hey, we all get to suffer together.
Masterlist
----------
On a peaceful, snowy morning, Loki woke to the smell of fresh breakfast and the sound of soothing music. It was a usual start to his day, but he always welcomed them. Stretching and rubbing the back of this neck, he rose and followed the spicy aroma to its source.
Out of the corner of her eye, Luna spotted him and threw him a charming smile.
“Morning. Merry Christmas. Or should I say ‘Happy Yule?’” She pointed with the spatula to the yellow-white mixture in the pan. “I’m making some eggs and toast for us if you don't mind."
“Of course not. Smells good,” Loki said, voice rough from dehydration. He envied the smoothness of Luna’s voice.
Sensing his discomfort, Luna gestured to the coffee maker. “I just brewed a fresh batch. It’s a good one if you want.”
Loki did, so he shuffled past her, took a clean mug, and poured himself a cup. Leaning his hip on the counter edge, he felt the warmth of his beverage seep into his tired bones. He clenched and unclenched a hand, stretching out the ligaments, and eyed the decal on his mug of choice. The familiar red-white-and-blue shield drew a muffled chuckle from his throat. Of course, he had to pick this one out. But he didn’t mind. It amused him. Given his past with everyone else, he held an inherent dislike for them, save his present company.
The music caught his ear over the crackling of hot oil. He doesn’t remember hearing the voice of the artist or the song playing. Curious, he gives it a listen.
“These lyrics,” he says absently, “they’re so macabre.”
Luna spares him a glance. “Yeah, but the feeling is romantic.”
“What’s so romantic about being dead and buried? And then have the corpses be found later on?”
“Nothing, really,” she reaches and grabs the toast, “but it’s the way it’s said. Like, ‘I would do anything – even die – so long as I did it with you.’ You know?” Luna took down two plates, handing one to Loki. “Romantic, I guess, whether or not you believe in that stuff.” The soft smile she was sporting dissipated.
“What stuff?” He asked as she served him a portion of eggs and a toast.
“You know, love.” Luna scooped her own portion and stood across from him. “That stuff.”
“You don’t believe it?” Loki probed her.
Luna waved a hand as though she were swatting away his question. “Eh,” she sneered a little. Not a topic she wished to get into on a holiday morning. “I put red pepper flakes in here, so be careful. Sometimes I can’t tell if I put too much in.” She hands him a fork, and he tastes her new creation. The bite of spices was commonplace in her home, and he welcomed it.
Content, he affirmed to her, “As always, it’s delightful.”
--------------------
A book in his right hand and a plate of cookies to his left, Loki lounged on the couch and finished up his story. It was a rousing tale of murder, mystery, and a charismatic serial killer. But, alas, as all stories do, it came to an end. Closing the novel, he did a visual sweep of his surroundings.
The album had finished its first full play, and in its place, a movie was on with the volume set low. ‘Home Alone,' it was called if Loki remembered correctly. Luna mentioned how she watched it every year around the holiday season and how he may take a shine to Kevin. True to her word, he did. Kevin’s tricks and independent spirit pleased and reminded him of his own childhood.
He watched the film in silence, gathering the plot points he’d missed and slowly partaking in the sugar cookies. He made a mental note to find time to watch it from the beginning. Near the end, he let his gaze wander over to where Luna sat. Diligently, she decorated their little tree with a small set of ornaments, a box of candy canes, and a bag of Hershey Kisses. Loki felt an itch to participate. Having enough of media, he stood and approached his friend.
“Hey,” Luna greeted, scooting to the side to give Loki some space. “How does this look to you?”
He took the space she gave him and assessed her decorating. “It’s good.”
Luna couldn’t help but beam. “Good. Glad you like it.” A Kiss in hand, she placed it on a central branch. "Little sweets," she adjusted an ornament, "baubles and such,” and folded her hands in her lap. “It’s good.”
Loki reached for the side table and plucked the object of his interest – a bundle of mistletoe – off it. “What about this?” He held it up to Luna’s line of sight. “Where would you put it?”
“That,” she took the thing from him and put it down, “is going nowhere.”
Her reluctance amused him. “Hypothetically, where would it go?”
Luna sighed. She knew he was faking it. “You know where it goes.” Loki couldn’t trick her.
He crossed his arms. “So, why not put it up?”
“Because if one of us stood under it, we would have to kiss, and the only kiss you’ll ever get from me,” Luna grabbed a Hershey Kiss from the bag, “is one of these.” She tossed it up into the air, and he caught it without a fumble.
Maintaining eye contact, Loki unwrapped it as carefully as he could and placed the chocolate in his mouth. “I’ll take it.”
Luna huffed, a little embarrassed, and softly pushed his shoulder. Loki leaned back on his hands and chuckled, her bashful grin satisfying him for the time.
The small packages and bags under the tree caught his interest, the number of them piquing his curiosity. He wondered if anyone else would be joining them. He hoped not.
As if she read his mind, Luna chimed back in, saying, “We’ll open these later, after I make some of the hot chocolate I know you like.”
Loki felt it necessary to voice his concern. “Will anyone else be coming?”
“Nope.” Luna shook her head. “Just us. Why? You already tired of me?” She smirked, teasing him. Loki chuckled and held his hands up in mock defense.
“Oh dear, you got me.” His sarcastic tone gave him away, for he could never have a boring moment with her. Chaos was his specialty, but he favored her tranquility. Though, he was confused. “But really, what of the rest of your family?” Luna had praised her mother many times to him. In his mind, if he removed himself, they should be together at this time. He was concerned as to why they were not.
Luna ground her teeth, doing her best to hold the truth back. Yes, Loki was her friend, but no one in her life now knew of her personal life details.
She scoffed lightly. “You don’t need to worry about them.” With a swallow, she buried her secrets down in the deepest part of her soul. “They can have their own day. We have ours.” A slow smile took its place on Loki’s handsome face. He took the bait and sated his curiosity for the time being.
Silence overtook them; one Luna wasn't comfortable with. Desperate to fill it, she changed the subject. "Hey, uh, can we go over those steps from the other day? I don't really feel like I got the hang of them yet.”
“You did them well enough the other day.”
“Tell you what: we go over the dance, and then after, we see what the elves brought us for under the tree? Or rather, in your case, the dwarves.”
Loki stood to his full height and extended a hand down. “It’s a deal.” Luna took it and pulled herself to her feet.
Fingers intertwined, they moseyed to the stereo. Not bothering to change the CD inside, Loki turned it on and scrolled through the tracks to find the one his heart desired.
“I see you like Hozier.” Luna smiled. “I’m glad.”
“Oh, he’s exceptional,” Loki praised as he selected a song. “And, to our luck, he has crafted an appropriate song for us.”
Pressing play and leading Luna into an open space, he took his position as she did hers. It was the song he had the privilege of waking up to and, oh, how appropriate it was. A bit forward, but he took to it nonetheless.
Circling each other slowly, they moved into the dance Loki knew by heart, mind, soul, and muscle. A rotation in one direction, a quick pivot of the foot, and a rotation in the other.
“Babe, there's something tragic about you; something so magic about you. Don't you agree?”
Changing direction again, they touched their wrists together. Luna’s hand was tempted to grab Loki’s, but his correcting remark from the first time she did it reminded her to not. They repeated the move again as their feet changed and took them the opposite way.
“Babe, there's something lonesome about you; something so wholesome about you. Get closer to me.”
It was protocol to maintain eye contact with a dance partner, but Loki was magnetic; Luna couldn’t look away, no matter if she wished to. A flustered feeling bloomed in her breast, but she dismissed it in turn for concentrating on her timing and footfalls.
He brought his hand down and molded it into the curve of her waist. Hers did the same, their touch as gentle as could be. The warmth emanating from her skin soaked through his shirt. He expected the sensation, but it never ceased to usher a slight tingle.
“No tired sigh, no rolling eyes. No irony.”
A wide sidestep took the two from each other’s grasp, but the dance commanded they not stray far. Hand still outstretched, Loki took hold of Luna’s and, with a swift pull, brought her back into his embrace. Closer than the previous step, but the next called for it.
Arm set firmly across her back, he tilted her backward, supporting her full weight. The arm she encircled around his neck gripped him tight in fear of slipping. But she held steadfast in her confidence in him and let her head tip back a bit further, allowing her an upside-down vision of her living room. He delighted in the carefree giggle she let out.
“No ‘Who cares?’, no vacant stare. No time for me.”
Bringing Luna back to a standing position, Loki took her hand from his shoulder and spun her away. He couldn’t let go, however. It would be improper to break contact now. Bringing her back to him, one held the opposite hand of the other, forming a small circle between them. Though, from how they held each other, the existing space separating the two was mere inches wide.
“Honey, you're familiar, like my mirror years ago.”
In time with the song’s signature, Luna stepped to Loki's side, and he stepped to hers; her right to his, his left to hers. She shook aside temptation and looked to her feet. Accidental entanglement with Loki’s feet had been embarrassing, and she was determined to not make the same mistake again. Loki spotted her conduct violation and released a hand to tilt her chin back up.
“Eyes on me,” he mumbled, holding Luna’s gaze as he retook her hand.
"Sorry," she breathed out. Loki held no grudge against her, for he did the same as a youngster.
“Idealism sits in prison, chivalry fell on his sword.”
Once more, Loki spun her, but not far. Gently guiding her under his arm, he lay the back of his hand on the far side of her waist, close enough for her to keep hold of his fingertips. Luna draped her free arm across his mid-back and bent her wrist far enough for him to grab her hand.
They locked eyes and made another slow rotation. Luna strained her neck a bit looking up, for he was so tall. It made her wonder if the princesses he danced with in the past had a similar problem. An idle thought. Maybe they didn’t. But who’s to say? The issue could be overlooked for the sole sake of dancing with a prince of Asgard.
“Innocence died screaming; honey, ask me, I should know.”
Finishing the turn, they separated, turned in their place, and did the steps again in the other direction. Loki took Luna around slowly, feeling her against him. He reminisced on how he performed the dance in the old days: adorned in gold and green, fresh-faced, a bright glint of mischief in his eye, and a partner on his arm he routinely forgot the name of.
He entertained the fantasy of Luna being a visiting royal from a neighboring kingdom. Oh, how he would jealously guard and horde her attention. As the other princesses would silently compete for Thor’s hand, Loki would indulge himself and dance with his own princess until the sun rose and set over the edge of the world. His darling friend, all to himself, for as long as they wished.
With the dance nearing its end, Loki grabs hold of Luna’s hand and brings her back around to face him. He spins her once more for good measure, releases her, and gives her a gracious bow. Brimming with pure joy, Luna waves her arms out to either side of her and reciprocates his gesture.
“See? You got it,” Loki praises, making no effort to hide his proud smile.
“Glad you approve.” Luna holds her hand out to him. “Ready for another round?”
Loki takes it, soft and natural. “Need you ask?”
“I slithered here from Eden just to sit outside your door.”
--------------------
Together, they finished out the song, going for two more rounds of the routine. Amidst her lifted spirits, Luna congratulated herself on entirely diverting Loki from the topic of her family. Friend or not, it wasn’t his business to know anything about her past further than the things she casually told him.
Turning the music off, Luna shuffled to the kitchen. “How about some hot chocolate?” She stooped and took out a small pot. “As promised.”
Loki rubbed his hands together, already tasting it. “Couldn’t say no if I wanted to.”
“You can always say ‘no.’” Luna poured out two servings of milk. “But, by the way you said it, I’ll take it as a ‘yes.’”
“Oh, please do.” Loki situated himself on the sofa and turned the television on again.
In place of an Irishman's soulful voice, the chiming of an eleven-year-old Macaulay Culkin made its way to Luna's ears. Unable to resist, she giggled and made a comment.
“Lost in New York? The streets are numbered!” Her obscure reference and uncharacteristic word enunciation caught Loki’s attention and confused him completely. Suspecting him to, Luna turned her head and called out. “It’s a line from a John Mulaney show. I can show it to you later if you want.”
Of course, Loki was interested. “I just might take you up on it.”
In his time with her, Loki had watched many quality films. Luna had good taste, lucky for him. The movie in question wasn’t good, but he kept up with the story regardless. Kevin’s charisma made up for where the direction and writing lacked.
Twirling a lock of his hair around his index finger, he took a look at the array of gifts beneath the tree and another at the kitchen. Channeling his inner child, he grew impatient; curious about what was for him and what was for Luna. She had neglected to label them, so all he could do is guess. The dwarves of old granted him and the rest of the royal family with lavish gifts, many beyond compare to the other realms under the Allfather’s rule. But, far away from all the glitz and glamour, anything meant for him was more than good enough.
The appearance of a steaming mug of hot chocolate broke any new thought manifesting in his head; its accompanying aroma drawing him in further. Loki leaned towards it to take it, but Luna carried it out of his reach.
“May I tempt you enough to pull you away for a bit?” She said, nodding to the tree in the corner.
Loki stood. “If that’s part of the deal,” he points to a mug, “tempt away.”
“Well,” Luna took a step closer to the tree, caressing the side of the mug, “you better come and get her before she gets cold.” She takes a spot on the floor and sits with her feet tucked beneath her.
“Ooh, we wouldn’t want that, now, would we?” Loki sits to her left and gingerly takes the mug from her.
Luna takes a sip of her hot chocolate. “Alright. So, I have a couple gifts for you and some from Peter.”
Loki, a bit perplexed, eyes his friend and the presents she’s referring to. “Peter?”
“Mhm.” Luna nods. “Isn’t he just the nicest? Apparently, he handmade something for you. How about we start with his things?” She passes him the bag Peter gave her and takes a smaller gift for herself. “Here, this one’s yours. He said to be careful because it’s fragile, and no, I have no idea what it is.” She sips from her mug, anticipating Peter’s gift.
“I will take the utmost precaution,” he mutters as he opens the bag and draws out the wrapped object.
Beneath the soft fabric, he feels something small and hard. He takes excellent care unfolding the cloth surrounding it. Resting in a sea of black is a small ceramic snake, coiled up and painted a vibrant green, with a gold horned helmet encasing its head. Loki traces the curves with a finger, barely touching the shiny surface. Luna scoots closer and leans in to get a better look.
“Oh, it’s beautiful,” she coos, restraining herself from touching it. “And he put your helmet on it too.”
Loki flashed a smile. He was utterly taken with his new miniature. “He must have remembered my story.”
“Which one?”
“One from when I was a child.” Loki set his little snake on the coffee table for safe-keeping. “My favorite prank to pull on my brother. It never failed to get him.”
Luna drew her legs to her chest and rested her chin on her knees. “What would you do?”
“Thor’s favorite animals are snakes, so I would regularly transform into one to surprise him.”
“And he never caught on?”
“Oh, he did, but we were having fun, so we never stopped.” Loki reached over and brushed the snake’s tiny curved horn, feeling a familial affection for the boy settling in his heart. Yet another human has earned their place on his good side.
“Don’t forget the shirt.” Luna placed a hand on the crumpled cloth. “He says that’s also a thing for you.” Haphazardly, Loki straightened out the shirt and held it up. A retro design sat on the front of two boys facing each other, knives in hand, with a bold-print caption reading ‘My First Knife Fight.’ Loki’s amused laugh stoked Luna’s curiosity, so she leaned closer to get a better look. “Is that part of the story too?”
“Oh, yes. The most crucial part.”
Luna looked at him suspiciously. “Don’t tell me you stabbed him.”
Loki chuckled. “Alright, I won’t tell you.”
Luna threw her hands up. “Of course you would stab him.”
“What gave it away?”
“Literally everything. You’re an expert in sharp objects, and you Asgardians heal really fast, so a regular stabbing wouldn't do too much damage. Besides, it’s kinda your style.”
Luna shrugged, smug and proud. “Surprise.” He eyed the gift Peter intended for Luna. It was still unopened. “So what did he give you?”
“Oh yeah," Luna said in realization. She unceremoniously tore into the colored paper and unfolded the little bundle of fabric. “Aw, Spider-Man socks.” She held them close and smiled gratefully. Pulling them on, she made a mental note to give Peter a big hug the next time they meet. “Of course, he’d know.”
Loki was suspicious, as evidence of her secrets continued to pile on. “Yes, they are nice.”
“Ooh, ok. My turn now.” Luna moved to her original spot. “The rest are your presents from me. Let’s do,” she hovered a hand over the remaining three objects and plucked one from the pile, “let’s do this first.” She held it out for Loki to take at his leisure.
It was soft and small, not unlike Peter’s gift for Luna. Loki ripped the package open and held up his own pair of socks. They were bigger than Luna’s and decorated with simple insignias of trees, ornaments, sprigs of holly, and reindeer.
“These are… interesting.”
To Luna’s dismay, Loki was impossible to read. He looked neither impressed nor disappointed. “Patterned holiday socks.” She tried explaining, but she felt like a fool. “You don’t have to wear them. It’s just … I've never gotten socks for anyone before, and I wanted to get those for you. I can always return them or give them to Tony if you don’t-,”
Loki held the pair close to his chest as though he expected someone to snatch them away. “Now, why on Earth would I let you do that? They’re for me.” He pulled the plastic tabs holding the pieces together and slipped them on his feet. “Now, no one can take them.”
“They suit you very well.” Luna was proud of herself. The first of three was a success. “I hope they’re comfortable enough.”
“Indeed they are.” Loki rubbed his feet together, feeling the soft cloth against his skin. “What else do you have for me?”
“Ooh, yes. I have two more things.” Luna handed him a hard, rectangular box a bit longer than his hand. “I didn’t plan this one, really. I just saw it and thought you’d like it.”
Loki uncovered it and revealed a flat gold chain necklace long enough to encompass his neck and rest easy along his collarbones. He dropped the cover and lifted the chain out. The metal shined bright and slid smoothly in his fingers.
“You are indeed right.”
Luna clenched her fist and grinned. Another victory on her part. “Here, let me.” She took it carefully out of his hands and shuffled on her knees to kneel behind him. Avoiding his hair, she draped the chain around his neck and latched it closed. She leaned to one side of him and admired his new piece. “Gold looks good on you.”
Loki couldn’t help but smirk. He was hardly immune to her flattery. “It’s lovely,” he said, giving it another feel with his fingertips.
“I’m glad you think so.” Luna crawled back to the tree and handed him the remaining box. “Ok, last but not least, this one.”
It was another hard box. Loki made short work of its wrappings, no longer able to withhold any self-control. Embellishing the lid was the Stark Industries logo. Loki was puzzled. He knew Luna knew how he disliked Stark, so why gift him a product? He placed the box on the floor and lifted the lid. Inside sat no jewelry or mug or other paraphernalia; it was a glass rectangle similar to the one Luna possessed. No, not similar. It was the same one.
“Is this… is this what I think it is?” Loki eased it out of its packaging, watching the tree lights reflect off the surface.
“Mhm.” Luna nodded, doubly excited “I don’t have a phone here, so I figured you might want a way to reach me if you need anything while I’m at work. Or if I’m running late, I can call and tell you. I activated it already, so you just have to turn it on and work it. Like this.” She clicked the top button, making the default display screen come to life. “FRIDAY is connected to it, so she’s always there if you need help or whatever.”
“Thank you for this. All of it.” Loki was honest, through and through. It was a scary feeling, but Luna helped quell his fear a little.
A broad smile took place once more on Luna's face. Today was full of them, it seemed. “You are very welcome, my friend.”

@sinuzaki tagged me!! ❤ Rules: list ten songs you’re currently vibing to and tag ten people
UHH, oh man, I love talking about music so here we go, in no particular order other than I recently started bumping them on spotify.
I've been a real rock rat recently...
1. Young and Menace by Fall Out Boy, "I'm just here flying off the deep end, I'm just here to become the best yet." This song goes fxxking hard, I don't care what anyone says. I love screaming so that whole ending break down section must makes me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. Believer by Imagine Dragons, "Seeing the beauty through the pain, you made a-- you made me a believer." Imagine Dragons is probably my favorite band and though the Night Visions album is always going to be special to me I LOVE their new stuff. Dancing in the Dark is hella good, too.
3. DNA. by Kendrick Lamar, "I got loyalty, got royalty inside my DNA." I know the critiques. I know. This album though. This album (particularly DNA. and XXX.) goes off, dude, idk what to tell you. You sorta have to listen to the whole thing in order to get it, get it which is pretentious to say, but not incorrect.
4. LIES GREED MISERY by Linkin Park, "Saying that I softened, I was ducking down to reload." & "Let me show you exactly how the breaking point sounds." Today was the first day I actually listened to them since.. we got the news so I'm a little teared up right now but when I started vibing this a few weeks ago it was just so. I don't know, I never really grew out of my angry screamo phase so this... feels right. Especially now.
5. Lapis Lazuli by Katuchat This has no lyrics, but I like things that sound like you should be listening to them while floating in a hazy cave right before you receive enlightenment or something...
6. Wake Up by EDEN, "And you can't see what's wrong when you're sleeping through the PM." I love the way this song paints an entire narrative and it's also just, again, that hazy cave sound. I was invested in the story of the lyrics but the music added to it, didn’t distract from it imho
7. Cardinals by The Wonder Years, "We're no saviors if we can't save our brothers." I don’t know, I like yelling, but I also like yelling that sounds like something other than just anger. I love this story and the tone and just, ugh. I believe the lyrics, you know? The story feels real.
8. Doomed by Bring Me The Horizon, "It's getting darker but I'll carry on. The sun don't shine but it never did. And when it rains, it fucking pours, but I think I like it." I missed BMTH during my scene phase but Spotify suggested them to me a few months ago and I'm Feeling™ this song, I love it.
9. In A Week by Hozier, "We'll lay here for years or for hours, thrown here or found, to freeze or to thaw. So long, we'd become the flowers. Two corpses we were, two corpses I saw." I love Hozier and I'm also a morbid little shit so I love the whole concept of... like, not dying together, but rotting together, for fucks sake, that's a gross way to put that, but that's exactly what I mean.
10. History Maker by DEAN FUJIOKA, "We were born to make history." Listen, LISTEN this is a great song ok, it's not just because of YOI, this is a really good song, I get happy goosebumps whenever I hear it, like??? I feel like I should stand on a chair and do a waltz when it comes on.
Yeah, so that was more involved than it needed to be, but hey, I had a good time so whatever. And uh... hey no pressure to play!! I’d also like to just hear even just one song you’re vibing to recently:
@homebodyheart @powerfulstarfish @caffou @theragnarokd @salteverywhere
+ anyone else who wants to play can say i tagged you!

music
fav genre; uh. pop? i guess it's pop. i am pretty bad about knowing genres, and like, sometimes i'll dip my toe into emo, but anything remotely hardcore i tend not to be able to listen to for very long. fav artist; HONESTLY. like. i will go to bat for carly rae jepson and hozier. those are like, the two that are the only 2 moods i experience. oh fuck, and left at london (she just put out a new album, highly rec all her shit) fav band; ummm well it was patd for a little bit. *pulls up spotify* uhhh. mcr. THE CLICK FIVE. i can't explain to you why, you either get it or you don't. fav song; god i don't know if i have one, uhhh. as the world caves in by matt maltese makes me cry every time i listen to it? so there's that. love will find a way from the lion king 2? me from the beauty and the beast broadway show, and brutus by the buttress most listened song recently; probably either stalker's tango by audioheart, 70s porno music by cute whore, or an unhealthy obsession by the blake robinson synthetic orchestra song currently stuck in your head; my head is a cyclical mess of every song i've ever heard. literally every time i hear anything that could be remotely close to a lyric, that song is playing in my head for hours, or god forbid a tiktok has a song in it. fav lyrics
And hey, you, don't you think it's kinda cute That I (I) died (died) right inside your arms tonight That I'm fine even after I have died Because it was in your arms I died
My name is Brutus and my name means heavy So with a heavy heart I'll guide this dagger Into the heart of my enemy My whole life you were a teacher and friend to me Please know my actions are not motivated only by envy I too have a destiny This death will be art The people will speak of this day from near and afar This event will be history And I'll be great too I don't want what you have! I wanna be you!
radio or your own playlist | solo artists or bands | pop or indie | loud or silent volume | slow or fast songs | music video or lyrics video | speakers or headset | riding a bus in silence or while listening to music | driving in silence or with radio on.
books
fav book genre; romance!!! tropey, tired romance. especially time-displaced partners and fake dating, and a desperate longing to like fantasy as much as i used to. fav writer; i don't have super set writers i return to, but i had a long love of christopher pike (at least, his non-scifi stuff for me) and r.l. stine. fav book; you know it's the great gatsby. we all know. we wish it was something else, but we know. also ouran high school host club by bisco hatori. good shit. or is that a book series? i'll put another in series. fav book series; THE FIREKEEPER SAGA BY JANE LINDSKOLD. i was OBSESSED with this series when i was younger! a princess raised by super-intelligent wolves??? INCREDIBLE. WISH THAT WAS ME. also beastars AND beast complex by paru itagaki. and the wize wize beasts of the wizarding wizdoms by nagabe. people shouldn't skip this one in favor of beastars necessarily! comfort book; you know it. you love it. it's the great gatsby again, baybee. or, in my younger and more vulnerable years, the greek's chosen wife by lynne graham. e.e;; look, it was the one harlequin novel i'd found at the time w/ a fat protag. especially one who wasn't shamed for it. FUCK IT. MANGA TOO. beauty pop by kiyoko arai. god it's so charming. the closest i come to dealing with that tsundere boy shit. perfect book to read on a rainy day; damn, any good gay romance novel. can't go wrong. i wish i had a better rec for you. fav characters; haruhi fujioka (ohshc), firekeeper/tamara (firekeeper saga), nick carraway (the great gatsby), i have such a frustratingly bad memory lmao 5 quotes from your fav book that you know by heart;
i'mma be real, i dont know full quotes by heart, but i know parts of quotes so you'll get the full versions. also not 5
Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter—tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. . . . And then one fine morning— So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
He smiled understandingly — much more than understandingly. It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced — or seemed to face — the whole external world for an instant, and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you just so far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself, and assured you that it had precisely the impression of you that, at your best, you hoped to convey.
Do you ever wait for the longest day of the year and then miss it? I always wait for the longest day of the year and then miss it!
tv + movies
fav tv/movie genre; r o m a n c e. mostly movies, since show romances tend to be utterly drawn out and largely forced. for shows, probably procedural crime shows, since no one knows how to make a mindless crime show quite like the us fav movie; god dammit it's the great gatsby again, the 1974 version. but also the 1946 version of beauty and the beast. and cry-baby directed by john waters. and sleepaway camp (1-3), and behind the mask: the rise of leslie vernon, and pontypool. comfort movie; i kinda have a rotation? for a while it was johnny dangerously, and george of the jungle, and the road to eldorado (the animated dreamworks one), and even the quiet man. the lion king 2 movie you watch every year; i try to watch a couple holiday movies (particularly valentine's, halloween, and christmas) every year, but i been slackin'. i think i watch creepshow pretty regularly, though, along with sleepaway camp 1. fav tv show; columbo. the owl house. the 1990s beauty and the beast show as a concept. comfort tv show; columbo. the owl house. leverage. lie to me*. most rewatched tv show; COLUMBO. ultimate otp? god i dont know anymore. mormor? harringrove? 5 fav characters; lieutenant columbo, eda the owl lady, nuka (tlk2), jason voorhees, cry-baby walker
tv shows or movies |short seasons (8-13 episodes) or full seasons (22 episodes or more) (either!) | one episode a week or binging |one season or multiple seasons | one part or saga | half hour or one hour long episodes| subtitles on or off | rewatching or watching just once | downloads or watches online
and gleefully tagging @candycoatedcarnage <3 <3 <3

12. saddest song you know >> A sad song I know in general, one that makes me really sad just to hear, is A Perfect Circle’s 3 Libras.
13. Favourite song to sing in the shower >> Blood Red Summer, Coheed and Cambria. Or any of the Doomstar Requiem songs.

15. What song would you like to have your first dance to at your wedding >> I don’t know.

Helvegen by Wardruna is a... I think it’s a dirge, actually, but I guess I like the idea of having sex to strange songs. Leave me alone. 37. A song that has a lot of meaning to you >> Nothing As It Seems, Pearl Jam. That song’s been with me through a lot.
38. A song that reminds you of school >> Prayer, by Disturbed, because that was out when I was in high school and I used to watch the video on the school computers all the time. Also, I drew like 16-inch-tall chibi versions of the band from a screencap of the video, and I laminated the David Draiman one and would just carry it around school with me all the time. So, you know, there’s that.
