I think it would be really funny if C.C and Marilyn Batson were minor legends in the archeological community. Like, dying in a suspicious archeology accident? People would go nuts for that. And also they just in general made huge contributions to the archeology community in their time. Obviously nobody outside of this very niche community knows anything about the Batsons at ALL but other archeologists respect their legacies greatly.
What I’m getting at here is Cassie’s mom told her all sorts of stories about her work and would reference the Batsons in every other new find and has showed her pictures every so often of the couple. Then the first time Cassie meets Captain Marvel she’s like C.C. BATSON?? MY MOM IS OBSESSED WITH YOU and Billy has precisely zero idea how to respond to this

I’m genuinely surprised marvelsonas aren’t more of a thing in fandom spaces considering how prevalent sharing powers with others is in literally every canon

New 52 C.C. Batson being alive but still looking weirdly like shazam has such comedy potential.
Like imagine the hero that randomly popped up in the city you grew up being your doppelgänger.
Maybe Billy saves him one day with the justice league and everyone’s like “WOW, that guy looks exactly like you? How crazy is that??” And Billy has to not blow his cover by the fact that his estranged father his standing right in front of him while C.C. is absolutely bewildered looking at this younger and buffer version of himself.
Do you think he would take advantage of this and become a superhero impersonator?

WIP guessing game: help
"I know about Billy, Marvel," Batman says, and Billy . . . blinks.
"You know?!" he sputters. Okay, so apparently his secret identity was just . . . literally never a secret at all, then. Which, well–Batman, so that just figures, really. So actually this is kind of a relief and might even mean that he's fine with–
"Yes," Batman confirms with a nod. "So I understand your current reservations about parenthood."
. . . wait what.
"Huh?" Billy says, blinking stupidly at him.
"I don't know how much of you is still C.C. Batson or what you do or don't remember about being him," Batman says. "But the resemblance is undeniable, if nothing else. Certainly your and your wife's deaths were . . . well, suspicious. And you're hardly the first archeologists to dig up a god or six."
Oh, okay. Well.
This is apparently what Billy gets for his personal mental image of a "hero" being his dad, then, isn't it.
Crap.
"To be honest I've been looking for Billy for a while now, I just didn't want to bring it up before I found him," Batman admits, looking dissatisfied with himself. "My most recent reliable intel puts him in Fawcett City, but I assume you're aware of that, given your evident attachment to the place."
"You're looking for Billy?" Billy asks incredulously. "Why?"
"Because he's your son," Batman says. "And because he's a homeless child who's been abused and neglected and needs help. I honestly don't know where you go when you're not being Captain Marvel–frankly I'm not sure if you even exist when you're not being Captain Marvel, given what little I actually know about your powers and your death and your role as the Champion of Magic and just how damn impossible you are to find when you're off-duty–but I'm assuming that wherever it happens to be is not necessarily conducive to providing a stable home environment and being legally dead certainly can't be helping with that, so my original intention was to find the boy and help you arrange some manner of care for and visitation with him. And given the revelation of your relation to Robin, well . . . I'd like to take Billy in myself, if you'd both be comfortable with that. It seems . . . appropriate, under the circumstances."
"You want to foster Billy because I'm Robin's soulmate?" Billy says, absolutely positive that he's misunderstood literally every single word that just came out of Batman's mouth. There is no possible way that he did not.
"It's not exactly out of my wheelhouse," Batman replies wryly. "Although I'll be keeping this one out of the tights, ideally. Though I make no long-term promises about that because quite frankly at this point I'm spoiled for soulmates who insist on wearing capes and I wouldn't really be surprised to turn up another one, especially given that Robin is yours and your own involvement in the superhero community."
Billy stares at him.
"Wait, are all the Gotham vigilantes your soulkids?" he blurts unthinkingly.
"Not all," Batman says. "But, well . . . probably more of them than you'd expect."
"Oh my god," Billy says in disbelief. "And you're just telling me that?! You don't tell people things, you're Batman!"
"I haven't always been the father I should have been," Batman says, and then he pulls down his cowl. Billy chokes, and then chokes again because apparently Batman is Bruce freaking Wayne and his brain just . . . just needs a moment to process that fact, like there is literally any way whatsoever that he could ever actually process that fact. He would've been less surprised to see a Kardashian under that mask, he's pretty sure. At least they've got athletes in the family, technically! "So I'm not going to make things difficult for you with Robin. Clearly he needs more than I'm capable of providing, and I'm perfectly willing to be transparent and to co-parent with you as much as possible. I want Robin to be safe and content and grow up well, and frankly put, Batson, you've proven yourself to be a good man time and again and I trust you to do what's best by our son."
Okay, well, now Billy just feels like dirt.
"You do know what happened to Billy, don't you?" he asks just a little bit desperately, because there is literally no way that this conversation is a real and actual thing that's really and actually happening. "Like, just–everything that happened there? There's a reason he's not in school or the system or with a relative or anything like that."
"What happened to Billy wasn't your fault," Batman tells him, meeting his eyes all quiet and intent and sincere. "And I will do everything in my power to help you make it right."
"Oh no, you're actually like . . . just genuinely a really good person, aren't you," Billy says despairingly, staring at him all over again and really, really wishing he could swear right now.
Maybe he'll just go throw himself into the sun. Maybe that's what he'll just go and do.
The corner of Batman's mouth quirks up wryly. His eyes even crinkle a little, which Billy can see on account of his total lack of cowl right now, oh god.
Billy despairs.
"I mean it," Batman says gently. "It wasn't your fault, and it doesn't mean you can't be a good father now."
"I need to talk to Robin," Billy says, because he definitely, definitely needs to talk to Robin. Batman inclines his head in an accepting nod, because Batman is probably under the impression that Billy wants to go give Robin a good ol' traditional "I know I'm not your biodad but I'm here for you, champ!" kind of speech, and Billy just . . . really cannot explain the real situation to him right now. Or ever.
Can he just lie to Batman for the rest of their lives, maybe? He can just pretend to be his own dad for the Justice League and keep dodging whatever Bat-surveillance happens to be in Fawcett and parent his older-than-he-is soulmate, right? That's a thing that he can do?
That's probably not a thing that he can do.
Although he might be willing to try, at this point.

Y'all know how, in some versions of Spider-man's origin story, his late parents were spies? What if that were the case for Billy Batson’s parents as well? Just a little idea for an AU, just a thought, hear me out on this--
While they were publicly known as archeologists, their secret lives could have been full of espionage and secrets. Hidden money, family secrets, probably one of the reasons why C.C. Batson distanced himself away from his older brother, Ebeneezer, and other family and friends. If they didn't, someone would have taken Billy in and noticed Mary was missing when they died. Also, how much was Billy and Mary's inheritance?? I feel like it was a lot for Ebeneezer to steal without mercy and to spend recklessly in his personal investments and finances. He gave out loans to people (unfairly), how much money was this?? What were Billy's parents hiding?? If this was in cash form, was this stash just hidden in their home, and when Ebeneezer found it, casually kicked Billy out?
What kind of mission would they have been sent on? In one version, I think, they were employed under Dr. Sivana. Infiltrating Khandak for Dr. Sivana? Or a more private organization? C.C. did know some of the older Fawcett heroes. Did they take Mary with them for a cover and to not be suspicious, acting like a normal tourist couple?
I'm rambling, but I like thinking about Billy and Mary's parents and who they were before passing.

Alright ya'll, hear me out.
So the citizens of Fawcett city start to notice this homeless kid. Now, this wouldn't be too strange normally, but this kid is weird.
He will randomly walk out of alleyways that no one saw him entering. He has strange lightning scars up and down his face. Coincidentally, the sound of thunder seems so follow wherever he goes. If you try and talk to him he will answer vaguely before running off and disappearing without a trace. Some people say his eyes glow in the dark. Others mention him having conversations with a tiger. Criminals who attempt to rob from him get caught the day after.
After a little while, Batman catches wind of this, and of course, he needs to know everything, so he starts to investigate. After gathering intel about the kid, he finally goes to approach Captain Marvel about it. Marvel starts acting strangely, skittish, on guard, suspicious.
So Batman gets even more interested and starts diving deeper into this Billy Batson kid. It doesn't take long for him to discover C.C. Batson, the boys father, and sharer of Marvel's face. The whole family seemingly disappeared overnight, parents dead, both children missing.
Batman brings up some evidence of Billy to Zantana and after examining it she states that this kid is definitely not human. His aura is flickering, like his corporeal form is in flux.
So, Batman comes to the only logical conclusion. Billy is a ghost
and Captain Marvel murdered him.

So I know there's a lot of "Bruce or a Bat or Superman" is Danny's father or Danny is their AU "Jack Fenton" son. Likewise with being related somehow to Diana Prince or John Constantine.
I know I mentioned these in a reblog before but here's the two ideas on their own.
Johnathan Kent, as in Superman's father, is an alternate timeline Jack Fenton. The parallels are fairly decent there what with a mid-western father whose son is not... quite human but the man loves him. The differences are plenty since the man is less bumbling than Jack and knows his son isn't human but as far as I know never judged people for what or any of that. This I think would lean more towards wholesome family stuff.
C.C. Batson is Danny's AU father. That one is more leaning on the fact that Billy Batson is also a magically transforming kid hero who has a mentor figure that is an ancient cryptic force of... maybe good but probably balance. I don't really know much of C.C. outside of being Billy's parents being dead but you could argue the whole archeology thing being a fascination in death/the afterlife to mirror Jack's ghost research. This one would lean more towards dramatic reveals and fighting magically powerful enemies.

Halloween Shazam Plot: Take a 'Captain Marvel looks like C.C. Batson' fic and have Cap interact with Jason Blood. Give him some quick help on some magic stuff, but familiar enough it seems like they're old friends. The Justice League sees this, hears about it, Cap tells them about it, or even they call in some backup. Whatever it is, they now believe the reason C.C. abandoned Billy is that there's a demon attached to him and he's terrified for his son's safety. They start using this explanation to piece together things like disappearances, spotty understanding of magic, extreme powers he seems unwilling to use all the time, memory lapses and confusion about current events, and... the fact that he once mentioned he could transform, but it would be dangerous....
gone, gone the form of man, call forth the demon named Shazam

I feel like Question would understand what caps deal is as the champion way before Batman or any of the non magic league members bc you just know he’s all up in ancient Egyptian lore and of course he’s all over whatever legends of black adam survived to present day and anything he can get his hands on the Wizard as a result

I don’t tend to age Billy passed like 12, or even young teenagerhood for some snippets, just as a personal preference thing, but I have another Billy Batson concept - where Billy, now entering adulthood is a grown man and closer to Marvel’s supposed age and looks. No longer is Marvel some child fantasy of being Grown Up, because now he IS a grown up. And how would that conscious inner awareness go, with those streams crossing.
Like, he gets mistaken as Marvel by someone. Maybe it’s the black hair and blue eyes or maybe it’s the way he smiles with his whole face and laughs with his whole body. But it’s obvious that he’s NOT, ya know. Billy isn’t as big and strong, doesn’t have the height or muscle or radiating magical aura that draws others in. But still it’s the first time as BILLY that a stranger has seen / thought of him as Captain Marvel.
And it gets to him.
In a way that has him staring at his own reflection. Because he always thought Marvel looked like his dad - C.C. Batson. He’s thought that the moment he turned into Marvel. And he knows that it is reasonable for him to grow and look like his father. But he never thought about the next step of him, Billy Batson, looking like Marvel when he grew up. And now he’s staring at this face that sorta looks like his dad and sorta looks like Marvel and is all Billy, and it hits him that he’s there at that point of existence he never thought he’d live long enough to reach.
Like a Lost Boy all grown up.
And he doesn’t know if he’s disappointed or elated that he doesn’t look exactly like Marvel. That he looks close enough sometimes, at certain angles or when he does something reminiscent. Wonders if maybe he should work out more or instead dye his hair a completely different color.
Then he wonders what changes to himself he could do that would transfer onto Marvel. Because Marvel is more an avatar than an actual body, but it’s the ideal Mighty Mortal body taken from the blueprint of Billy Batson, so why wouldn’t different hair or a tattoo show up? Thats all different from the scars he has, the Lichtenburg figures and the evidence of a hard life at a young age permanently marring his skin.
And how eerie that must be, now so close to Marvel’s build and physique, to look upon the proof of his mortality and life, and see them gone from the other body that no longer feels like he’s a kid wearing an adult suit. Left wondering if he’s going to keep aging, if he’ll keep living, and one day look older than Marvel, or if this is where it stops. If there was ever a Champion that lived long enough to see that, too.

The original, real Captain Marvel and Billy Batson, by co-creator C.C. Beck.
Tumblr media
Captain Marvel mega-fan Alex Ross’ version of the same.  It’s great how Ross uses the likeness of actor Fred MacMurray for Cap’s face;  MacMurray was whom Beck and other artists at Fawcett Comics used as the model for The Big Red Cheese.
