Sort of a distant tangent off my post about Ashton, but I'm growing more and more suspicious of the fandom claim that there's no time for small RP moments in Campaign 3. I do think that it's been challenging to get deeper party bonding or serious conversations that aren't about the big philosophical questions they're facing, since those do take much more time; but then I think about Calamity, or Candela Obscura. I can genuinely give you at least a couple paragraphs about pretty much every relationship in the two Circles, or in the Ring of Brass. I can also point to no shortage of small moments between characters in the Mighty Nein Aeor or Vox Machina Vecna endgame episodes, which were all extremely plot-heavy and fast-paced, and D20 consistently nails character relationships in a fraction of the time.
I think it really does come down to, as Brennan Lee Mulligan always says, the character creation phase. Laying down a solid groundwork in which everyone has a detailed, rich backstory and sense of personality and relationship history (in the case of characters who knew each other prior to the start of the series) is absolutely crucial, and even in the case of characters who don't know each other before going in, a good amount of time spent in character creation ensures that it's easier for them to develop those interpersonal relationships on the fly. I know in actual play there's some degree of finding the character as you play, but there are games for which there is a very short runway, and I don't think it ever hurts to do more extensive character prep than the bare minimum. And if there are gaps, I think it also helps to go back and fill those in mid-way, away from the table - Travis clarifying Chetney's backstory being a great example that allowed the history of Chetney and Deanna to feel realized and full, despite only a few episodes.
I'll also be blunt: most of the time when people complain that there aren't moments because the plot keeps moving...they're mad about shipping. Which has always rung hollow to me. It was a common complaint in C2, that no time was taken for character relationships, despite them taking an entire half of an episode for the Beauyasha date and despite no shortage of moments for all three of the other couples (and plenty of platonic moments between friends). The issue was never a lack of time; it was that the characters they wanted to talk to each other didn't actually have the relationship in canon that the fans had dreamed up, and so, when the chips were down, they went to other people.
It takes two seconds to say something like "I hold their hand", even in the middle of plot-heavy adventuring. If someone doesn't say it, it's rarely the GM rushing them; it's the player either choosing not to do so, or not remembering to do so, and either of those is quite revealing regarding how the player feels about that relationship and where it stands in their priorities.

So you know how in stories kids will hide the creature they found from their parents? Like “gotta hide and disguise the alien or mom will ground us!” Or “quick lil fairy, hide! We can’t let dad see you” Or “mom will freak out if she found out I was friends with a giant robot!” Etc etc. And I understand that it’s from the fear of getting in trouble over the littlest of things (god I can relate to that) but also if I had kids and found out they were hiding a whole ass person or mystical creature or giant or alien I’d be upset that they hid them from me but I would be SOOOOO excited to meet them. Like: “Hey son, I found an alien in your room. Are they your friend? Why haven’t you introduced me to them yet?” Or “You’ve been hiding a giant robot??? And you didn’t think I’d want to meet him?!?!?!? This is the best thing EVER!!” Or “sweetie…your telling me magic exists and you’ve known about it for a week now? This is awesome. Yes I’ll keep her a secret don’t worry, a friend of yours is a friend of mine.” Etc etc. just really supportive about this new wild friend they have. Imagine that though, imagine having a parent who would be chill about finding out about that you made friends with an alien, monster, superhero, robot, etc. I think that would be nice and I’d be that parent.

It's actually really disappointing people are genuinely angry/upset about Hunter's haircut
Y'all. It's the exact same scenario as Amity changing hers
It was a style their abusers forced on them to mimic a specific person, so by changing it they get to take their autonomy back
The other thing with Amity's cut is it was symbolic of her cutting her abuser out of her life; between the new color relating to her passion (abomination) & purposely keeping some of the brown rather than it just grew in over time (her father's hair color), it was some cool foreshadowing that Amity was going to cut Odalia out of her life, like she did the green out of her hair, but that Alador was gonna stay. I wrote a post about this months ago after COTH aired
Hunter's cut is the same symbolism. He only had that style because he was modeled after Caleb, and because Belos genuinely never saw a single GG as their own person, they were all just Caleb to him. Yeah, I would've liked to see the headcanons of him dying it red for Flapjack, but him changing the style itself is still symbolic of him no longer being modeled after Caleb, and literally cutting away the last of Belos' influence on him.
I'll admit I found Amity's new cut weird when we first saw it but I was fully behind the idea of her completely changing it after we saw it was modeled after her abusive mom. Now when I rewatch S1 the old style looks weird to me bc I'm so used to the current one (and the meaning behind the old style really sours the look of it for me which is a shame cuz I loved the green when we first met her)
Hunter's new cut might look weird (esp since it's just in a poster rn) but again, I'm fully behind the idea of him completely changing it after everything we've seen since Hollow Mind. We won't have nearly as much time with it as we had with Amity's new look, but I'm sure the "it looks weird bc it's different" feeling will fade just as fast as it did for Amity, especially when you remember the meaning behind the old one.
TL;DR even if you think the specific style of Hunter's new cut looks weird, 1. It's because it's brand new you'll get used to it, 2. The meaning behind the cut is more important than "his old style looked better"

Every Day I Worry All Day about Empress Luz AU!Hunter struggling to put his emotional eggs in more than one basket. Like that other anon said I feel like at first he'd be repulsed by the very idea of it... I love a codependent dynamic but I also love the angst potential in the process of breaking out of that dynamic and it's something I haven't actually seen explored much before. "I feel guilty and angry about loving more than one person because it's fucking scary. Loving ONE person already hurts so much I think if I love anyone else I'll Actually Die." Screammmm
YEAH.... YEAH.... and i think this is part of why hunter has gotten attached to amity, in his weird bitey grumpy threatening way. because amity feels Safe. because he doesn't care about her like he does luz, or at least he doesn't think he does. they have a camaraderie but he's not Fucked Up over her. so she can be his friend. she's tough he's not worried about her. loving someone means feeling so anxious and sick that you have to stop yourself from dry heaving like 15 times a day, right??
him meeting willow will be.... interesting.

Is there a Badger Cereal-esc name for Vlad and Valerie?
If not I'm coining it "Revenge Penpals."
'cause both of them seek revenge against those who ruined their lives and Valerie got her suit from Vlad through the mail.

I read homestuck like a fucking heathen because if I get bored or sick of what I’m reading I go to the wiki for a character I like and then click on a random scene they have to read that instead. NO I don’t know the context. I don’t know who some of these characters are. But this is how I recharge to read it normally lmao
