Transformers Robot Husband Poll: MBTI Types

A few of you have seen me mention this special interest of mine, but the rest of you are new. Hello, and welcome. I’d like to talk about our Round Three* contenders in light of personality typology, specifically the MBTI theory based on Jungian typology.

(*Why 3 instead of 4? Because I’d planned to post this yesterday and already had those characters listed.)

Yes, I’m aware this is classified as a pseudoscience. Yes, I put a questionable amount of stock in it. Now you see why I’d get along with Drift so well. 😛 This post is for fun, so please don’t take it as seriously as I am unless you’re genuinely curious. The main goal of this post is to present some interesting observations related to the correlation between who are most desirable fictional husbands and their MBTI types. That’s it. A TL;DR is at the end for the Blurrs among you. Anyway, here we go:

While I’m sure most of you have at least heard of MBTI, you should know that it’s not just the four-letter dichotomies: I vs. E, T vs. F, etc. I won’t bore you with the details; I just want you to be aware that mainstream culture has watered down the theory to a four-letter code when there’s far more complexity beneath the surface. Cognitive functions, function axes, etc.

“What does all of it mean though?”

Well, it tells me that the fandom really loves their xNTPs and xSTJs. You may have no idea what that means on a detailed level, and that’s fine. The short version is that people either love down-to-earth guys who are dependable and know how to get stuff done or the funny guys who have a nerdy, creative, or rebellious streak. This is obvious just from looking at the results and tags, but it’s interesting to me that the overall trends can also be seen through the lens of MBTI.

Now, for the fun part: I’m expecting the semifinal contenders to be Cyclonus, Knockout, Soundwave, and Jazz. Their respective types are ISTJ, ESTP, ISTJ, and ESFP (or ENFP). Once again, opposing temperaments. (i.e. ISxJ vs. ESxP)

Furthermore, the projected finalists are Cyclonus and Soundwave—both of whom are ISTJs. The conclusion is that, despite the appeal of the xNxP guys, ISTJ characters are more likely than any other type to be seen as good husband material, which lines up perfectly with the general stereotypes associated with ISTJs.

TL;DR - The majority of the fandom agrees that ISTJ characters are peak (stereotypical) husband material, and a deeper look at the type would reveal that they are absolutely correct.

I’ve seen this a few times while perusing the Stardew tag and thought it seemed fun! As such, I’m looking for a Stardew Valley match-up, if you will; I’ve no preference for the gender of the match up (bisexual nation RISE UP!!!)

I go by He/Him pronouns. I’m a chubby/stocky man who often jokes about being the “tallest man on earth” (complete lie) (But maybe I am telling the truth… you’ll never know). I am autistic and I suffer from and am medicated for depression and anxiety. Other illnesses, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, also run in my family, but I had never been professionally diagnosed with them. I have a debilitating phobia of dolls and some mannequins and puppets, to the point of nausea. I have chronic migraines.

I’m EXTREMELY heat intolerant, often times getting horribly ill when I do overheat. I take measures to make sure my room is always cool, and I even have some cool packs I rely on in the summer months.

According to MBTI (is that the right order for the abbreviation?) I’m an INFP. My big three astrological alignments are Pisces sun, Sagittarius moon, Taurus rising; however, my friends who are FAR more into astrology than I am say I seem more like an Aries sun (which is interesting, since I was born a week early— I would have actually been an Aries if I had been born on my actual due date).

I have only a few hobbies as of right now (video games, listening to music, and writing), but I have an abundance of new hobbies I would love to (and plan on!) getting into in the future (a couple include crocheting/knitting, building my own PC, and working/building with wood). I have a lot of struggles with reading, to a degree that makes me feel insecure a lot of the time; I worry it negatively effects my ability and love of writing, and it admittedly can feel a bit alienating at times when people I’m close with talk about the joy they get from reading.

I’m a BIG collector, to the point I don’t really consider it a hobby as much as I do a general part of my life; primarily, I collect stuffed animals! I sleep with a Snoopy Build a Bear every night, and get anxious when I don’t have him in my arms at night. I’m an out of box collector, and none of my stuffed is in “mint” condition— I collect for myself, first and foremost, and for the future generation second; everything is well loved, and will continue to be loved.

I’ve become a big “write that down” type of person as I’ve gotten older. I strive to be the guy people come to for notes for a video game they play, or perhaps for recipes that I wrote down even though I’d never make it myself since I’m a very picky eater.

As a kid, and even now, I dreamed of being an oceanographer; I love the ocean dearly, and I always will. I grew up playing the Endless Ocean games on Wii (side note: very excited for Luminous to come out!!!), which was the source of all my love and interest in the ocean. I love learning things I didn’t know about the ocean before, and love sharing my knowledge even more. I may not be able to drive a car, but I’d love to one day be able to have a boating license!

I’m a big animal guy!!! I grew up surrounded by animals all my life, and I’m a firm believer that a home isn’t a home without having an animal around that you can take care of, whether it be a dog, cat, turtle, or otherwise.

I have a moderate fear of going down stairs, as I can’t do it correctly (going down them one step at a time, body often veering off to the side and pressed up against the banister; no, I have no idea why I do this) and have fallen down them quite a few times. Luckily, I’ve never been seriously injured.

Cars also moderately scare me. I don’t like the idea of being in a fast moving box. This often causes embarrassing social blunders, because I reach up for the car handle when I get anxious. I promise it’s not because you’re bad at driving, driver!!!

I can make near-perfect imitations of select animal noises; I’m partial to my quacking noise, as it’s become something of a vocal stim for me. I can also bark and “purr”.

I hate lenticular lining (the thing that makes those images on bookmarks move or seem 3D)— the feeling and the sound it makes when you scratch it makes me feel sick!

I’m often described as an “old soul” by people in my life who are far more spiritual than I am. I don’t exactly know what that means, if I’m honest, but I know it’s a compliment and it makes me feel nice and warm inside when I am describes as such.

My biggest goal in life is to be the fun, supportive uncle/cousin if any of my friends or family ever have kids. I don’t foresee myself ever wanting kids, but I know that any children that would be introduced into my life would be loved and cherished by me. Hange is probably the least teasing person on this list. But that certainly doesn’t mean she won’t tease you when she feels like it.

I don’t think she’s capable of talking to anyone as if they’re dumb. She just assumes people will know what she’s talking about, even if she’s using the most complex scientific terms.

In a modern au, Hange would absolutely be into watching stimboard videos. That is so up her alley, it isn’t funny. She’ll ask for recommendations occasionally and gets to know your preferences so she can recommend videos for you to watch as well.

I’m generally a pretty reserved person, but when I’m more comfortable with people I find that I can be pretty loud. If you put me in front of a group of people I’ll hate it, unless I have someone with me to make me feel more confident. I’m a huge people pleaser and I find it hard to say no to others, especially when they’ve been kind to me. I try to give others as many chances as they can but once they finally get on my “bad side” it’s pretty hard for me to forgive them. I struggle sometimes with my mental health, and although it’s gotten pretty bad in the past I’ve been on a good streak for a while. I’m an INFP if that helps.

As for hobbies, I love drawing and writing and expressing myself creatively. I also enjoy going for long car rides and listening to music. I can’t sing at all but I love music, and I’m always listening to it.

With social anxiety, is it the case that you only have to trough yourself in social situations, and then you’ll over come it? I believe I have social anxiety, however I haven’t been to a professional therapist about it. I tried to force myself into being social, but I feel like it’s getting worse. As a general point, social anxiety is different from social anxiety disorder. It is normal for anyone to experience social anxiety in high stakes social situations. The average person, with decent emotional intelligence, can accept a moderate amount of anxiety and still get on with life. When the level of anxiety becomes unmanageable, it is time to get professional help.

Social anxiety is considered to be a mental disorder when it becomes serious enough to interfere with your personal growth and prevents you from living your life as well as you'd like to. In such cases, the anxiety is often related to more deeply rooted psychological issues that require professional attention, such as: extremely low self-esteem, toxic shame, or past relationship trauma. If you're unsure where you stand, it's best to get a professional assessment and diagnosis.

I will consider your question to be mainly about learning because you seem to emphasize the fact that you're not improving despite your efforts. Due to inferior Te, INFPs often struggle with learning because they don't systematize, analyze, and quantify very well.

1) Systematization is important for learning efficiently and includes things such as: drawing important distinctions, categorizing information, and creating effective methods/plans.

One important distinction that applies in your case is "theory" versus "practice". Theory is about learning the concepts, principles, steps, or standards that are required for basic competency. Practice is about putting your theoretical knowledge to the test and refining/deepening your understanding as you learn through experience.

Not everyone is good at learning through practice alone (aka hands-on experience). For instance, Ns tend to need more theoretical knowledge than Ss to perform well. And not everything can be learned through hands-on experience alone. Imagine that you tried to pilot a plane without learning anything about how to do it beforehand, do you think you'd succeed just by learning on the job?

As far as I can tell, you're diving into socializing without enough theoretical knowledge of "how to" socialize successfully. Perhaps it would help you to read a book or two about social skills and how to develop them properly (see the resources page for recommendations).

2) Another important aspect of learning is analysis, being able to dissect and break down problems in order to resolve them efficiently. You say your skills aren't increasing, which means you're not doing enough to review what happened and determine what needs to change.

- To grow your knowledge, you have to acknowledge what you don't know, so what knowledge deficits need to be remedied? For example, were there situations in which you felt "stuck", as though you didn't know what to do, so you were forced to improvise blindly? What knowledge could've gotten you through those moments more smoothly? How would you obtain that knowledge?

- To improve your skill, you have to learn from mistakes, so what mistakes/missteps have you made? After you go through a social experience, analyze what didn't go well and/or what you should've done differently, and then apply that new knowledge the next time. This should produce incremental progress.

3) If you want to see tangible improvement when learning, you have to have some concrete standards and benchmarks for measuring your progress. On what basis are you quantifying your success? How do you know whether you've done something well or not? For instance, what, exactly, distinguishes "level 1" social skill from "level 10" social skill, and all the steps in between? Without clear standards, you won't have clear goals to aim for, and the learning process remains very haphazard.

Is our attitude about personalized treatment related to type? My INFP friend and I go the same art school and she frequently complains about how our teachers are too strict when it comes to deadlines (most won’t accept anything if it’s past the due date), and it’s not even about herself (her assignments are always on time), it’s on others defense.

This is interesting, since hers sounds like a Fe approach (what’s best for all of us), unless she is denying that it is about her, and that SHE hates it, ergo it’s unfair to everyone. But it could also be a strong social instinct.

That being said, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to INFPs rail about any kind of limitation on their creativity, deadlines, etc, because inferior Te struggles to abide by them, finds that too hard/restricting, etc. It’s especially apparent when INFPs grow up and have to do things like tax code stuff, and then they rant at length about how it’s all red tape and paperwork, etc (stuff they suck at and find hard, and hate, because they’re not good at it, and super slow at it, and so it’s “bad” for themselves and everyone else).

I on the other hand think it’s only natural, as respecting deadlines show we are taking this seriously as well as respecting others: no one should get a pass otherwise everyone should, then rules lose any meaning. Also our teachers for sure have to obey the institution regulations themselves, and for sure also have their own deadlines to attend to, so why should we be any different? But I also wonder if I’m a hypocrite, as even if I’d never ask for lenience myself if I failed to turn in an assignment and a teacher offered me an extension I wouldn’t say no to the opportunity.

I don’t think that’s being hypocritical -- you can still believe something like a deadline is necessary and we should do our best to abide by them, and make a mistake or forget and feel appreciative of leniency on someone else’s part.

In general, yes, how types respond to deadlines, restrictions, etc., does tend to vary by type and has a lot to do with the placement of their judging functions. :)

Whenever you need alone time or just some space away to recharge your social battery (which we all do sometimes) he'll always give you your space. He's super respective of your space and so if you need some time away he's willing to give it ofc.

Okay, idea, I think one night, before you guys go to bed, he'd see you doing your skincare and immediately want you to try it on him. He's a bit of an old school guy, meaning he just uses a bar of soap and water to wash his face. But when he sees you put so many extra products he finds it really interesting and will ask you if you can try it on him too lol.

HE ABSOLUTELY LOVES when you ask him for cuddles. It's his favorite thing ever. Just holding you and feeling you in his arms is so amazing. His favorite cuddle position would have to be whenever you lay your head on his chest. HE just loves holding you. Especially after the war because he has hard trouble going to sleep, but when you guys cuddle he can finally get the rest he needs.

But he loves whenever you're affectionate in any way possible. He's affectionate too. HE loves your curves so he'll always take any chance he can get *respectfully* to grab, hug, and kiss on you.

Overall, he's just a super sweetheart for you and is totally in love with you!!
