Summary

"Kon tried not to think about the future they all saw while they were ping-ponging through time - the year 2020 where the video archives showed their adult selves in their 30s fighting yet another war. All of them except Bart. Up until about a week ago Kon wrote the entire thing off as ludicrous and a sick and twisted joke pulled on them by time itself. But now… now…

Bart was in a coma, and he would not wake up."

War was war, and there never were any real winners. Particularly not for Kon as his mental health spirals following the Our Worlds at War event due to his guilt for being responsible for marooning his team on Apokolips. With kind and firm words from John Henry, Cassie's blunt compassion and even Bart haunting him, Kon struggles to find himself after the war.

Kon can forgive anyone, but can he forgive himself?

Earth wasn’t anything like how he remembered it was when he returned with his friends. Metropolis, his most beloved city, was pockmarked by the war with a haunted population that looked at him with distant eyes and made him feel like he really did step through a looking glass into another world. Even Martha Kent’s kind smile and gentle love to him was through a haze of gray and grief that washed her light out. The more guilty and paranoid part of his mind was certain it was because they were looking at a murderer, and they knew it. 

They all knew he killed Bart. His clone. Didn’t matter. Someone died that day on Apokolips. Multiple people. The Lobo clones. They all were dead because he couldn’t accept the mission he was given, and in an effort to save Steel’s life that didn’t even need saving, he instead crashed all of them on the worst planet in the universe. Less than six hours later, several hundred Lobo clones were a bloody biomass and Bart was a crumpled spasming husk. 

If Kon could have switched places with Bart, he would have, because it was his fault and Bart didn’t deserve this and… “He’s going to get better,” said Cissie as they visited Bart in his bone bleach white hospital room at STAR Labs. She sat on the bed near his large feet and rubbed his blanketed shin gently, her blue eyes glassy.   Bart, the person that Kon remembered as a bright and loud hurricane thunderclap more free than the wind, was a thin limp corpse, imprisoned in a bed and abused by his own biology. As Kon looked at Bart, he intrusively remembered the end of the real Little Mermaid story where the mermaid melted into seafoam and how serene a death it must have been, and those white blankets and pillows Bart melted into could have been bits of foam and ocean as he faded away from life.  But Bart clung fiercely to life as the machines he was hooked to beeped in disjointed harmony.

However, in a twist of fateful events;

Eren’s beliefs are tested shortly after taking on an odd job. Foolishly, he’d set sail alone. Subsequently, his ship crashed right into a beast of a storm. Thrusted into the chasm of the deep blue, his world goes black swiftly after the thunderous sea sinks his vessel.

Next thing Eren knows, he’s waking up staring straight into nearly sky blue, silvered eyes. A glimmering, shimmered tail whipping around a head full of lustrous raven locks.

“How goes it, human?”

“Uhm, y-yer a…”

“Yes, a mermaid. And I saved your life. That means you owe me one.”

Well, guess Eren be damned.

With that, they were able to start planning out their outfits for Halloween. However, Cassie knew she didn’t have the material to make the scale-print shirt for Lawrence.

“I could always go looking for some with Mom tomorrow, after school. Would that help you?” He asked. 

She nodded. “That would be really helpful. I think I’ve already got the material I need for my costume. So I can work on mine, then work on yours.”

He beamed at that. “This is going to be so cool- especially with Hannah and Chris there!” Cassie tried to hide her disappointment, as he kept going. “I think Hannah’s going as a mermaid, and Chris is going as a hippie again, from what they told me.”

She didn’t really want to talk about Lawrence’s friends. Not right now. So, she tried to change the subject. “Hey, are you going to be using your chair for Halloween? If you are, it’d still really fit Monty.”

For Cassie:

Color: you would think it would be pink, but it's not. She does like pink a lot and finds it fun, but her absolute favorite color is seafoam green, the kind of thing that lets you imagine yourself as a mermaid with limitless potential in the cool, bright waters. It makes her brain calm.

Shoe choice: She really likes cloth hightops, in a different color every time. She used to cover them in stickers until she met Liliana, and now she begs and bargains to get Lily to paint them. She has done many chores and given up many desserts to accomplish this.

Season: the very concept of winter is traumatic for her, so fall makes her nervous. She's a summer child, the kind who never seem to overheat because they find some convenient water to jump in, who don't wear shoes for three straight months, who only come inside long enough to sleep and eat.

Animal: She really likes birds, especially fierce ones like hawks. She has a whole book about them. But she'll take any bird, and has befriended the crows and minionized the seagulls near her home.

Pastime: This one's probably a toss up. On the one hand, she loves thrills that force her to live in the moment, and in her life the best thing for that is skateboarding. On the other hand, she loves biking to the arcade where she feels just like any other kid and wasting money to play games all afternoon.

Alright you tumblr goblins It’s mothafuckin ramble time. The topic being brutally dissected today? Shapeshifters.

I swear these posts are literally just me taking my OCs and going ‘ah yes, let’s figure out how their anatomy and whatnot works’.

Gonna start this off with me clearly saying that I am going to desperately try my best to slap science in here. Most of this will probably have plot holes and inconsistencies but if there is, blame magic. Starting with General Anatomy. Shapeshifters I like to think we’re descended from humans or some sort of human like creature, because in modern earth they’d probably need a human identity/facade to survive. Their stable unshifted form would be the form they were born in (I’ll touch on this later). So one shifter might have a human form for their stable, whereas another might be a fish or a fox. Unstable forms would be anything other than their unshifted form, which is a little self explanatory. These forms would be unstable and hard to hold for long periods of time, causing fatigue, pain, and exhaustion in the shifter from the constant muscular strain on their body. If put through enough pain the shifter will lose hold on this form and buckle, reverting back to their true self in a desperate attempt to ease the pain. Genetics wise a shifter takes the DNA of the animal/person they shift into while also carrying the shifter gene so if they were to have kids/mate in a different form they can still pass the gene onto their kids without having to be in their stable form. It’d probably be more likely for the kids from a shifter mother to carry the shifter gene than kids from a non-shifter mother as the shifter mother would expose the unborn young to shifting before they are born.

I’m going to keep this short but the actual shifting pert would probably be hella painful. Your whole body just warping and twisting into a new form? Not fun sounding at all.

I have a few Headcanons too that I personally like for shapeshifter characters, just make em a lil interesting. -Fangs, if they usually shift to animals, it’d probably make sense to give em fangs, even if they’re just little ones. -Shifter marks, little markings that are like natural tattoos that cannot change when a shifter changes forms. -Make em short, I don’t think shapeshifters should be talk and menacing. I think they should be at that height that they could bite at your ankles in a moment’s notice. (4’5”-5’3” is my go-to human form shifter height range) Anyways I had more but tumblr decided to say FU and delete half of it so yeah. Not rewriting all of that. That’s my ramble for the time being, prolly gonna tackle lycanthropes/werewolves next.
