Their MK IVs? Usually not. It's the MK Vs that get the make over treatment.

Their 'human' disguises, the MK IVs, don't necessarily need to match their charters. Those bodies are for the 1010s' own personal uses to get out on the town. And they usually won't be in them when they're with their charters, those bodies lack built in weapons for 'proper protection' and a big part of their jobs under their charters are as body guards along side being assistants.

(There are exceptions as Tatianas face isn't known as a charter, and there are also probably obscurities with Sayu's team as well. Not as big of targets as say, DJ Subatomic Supernova who everyone in Cast Tech should know of.)

The 1010s are usually just going to dress how they personally please in their MK IVs. Though that doesn't mean there wont be overlaps, don't think Yellow would honestly need to change his usual MK IV get up to blend in with Sayu's team.

There's this one particular bit in here though I zeroed in on while reading this ask.

She bent down, gathering some gravel to throw at the window, “Celia,” she whispered and threw some of the gravel, hoping no one else would hear.

After a while, Magdalena heard the balcony door open and Cecilia appeared, “Magda?” she said in a hushed voice, “what are you doing here?”

“I’d like to talk,” Magdalena said, “could I come up? I can climb the tree.”

Cecilia gave her an unsure look, “just be careful.”

Magdalena climbed up the big oak, careful as to not slip on the wet bark. When she finally reached the balcony, Cecilia grabbed her hands.

“You’re drenched! Come, let’s go inside,”

Throughout the trilogy, Effie is a personification of what the average Capitol citizen is. It is Effie who Katniss thinks of when Gale mimics the Capitol accent (THG, 1). With little contact, Effie has come to be what 12's citizen envision when they think of the Capitol.

As readers, we receive an early glimpse into what the Capitol is like through her fashion style and persona during the reaping ceremony. Effie is bright, bubbly, has pinkish hair, and a spring green suit (THG, 2). When Katniss arrives in the Capitol, its citizens are eager to see the tributes. The Capitol's colours are artificial, "the pinks too deep, the greens too bright, the yellows painful to the eyes" (THG, 4).

As Effie views her previous tributes as "savages" (THG, 3), so does the Capitol commentary reflect a similar view when they refer to District 12 as "a bit backward but that local customs [the three-finger salute] can be charming" (THG, 3).

District 12 is an underdog whose chances to win the Games are marginal and who rarely receive sponsors (THG, 4). This unpopularity within the Capitol is represented by Effie's exclaim that she might be promoted to a "decent district next year!" which leaves Katniss uncertain whether Effie is "overcome with either the emotional parting or the possible improvement of her fortunes" (THG, 10).

Effie's emotions pertaining to the tributes are akin the feelings the Capitol citizens have of their tributes. The crowd "screams assent" (THG, 10) on the prospect of more information on the star-crossed lovers. The tributes are pawns in their entertainment system, and the prospect of an interesting storyline is emotional and exciting. There was no uproar to question the Games, no saving these two kids—this fascination relied on their inherent doom. Thus, while emotions alike Effie's might be at play here, they are not enough to question the legitimacy of the Games just yet.

Once victors, Katniss and Peeta are placed in a different rank to the Capitol society as the Capitol engages in a voyeuristic enjoyment in their lives (CF, 3). While much of this can be read in a sensational manner, and that is no false interpretation, the Capitol citizens are interested in the lives of their victors and receive Katniss' and Peeta's fresh love with interest—Katniss and Peeta are celebrities who they have built a relationship with, such as being emotionally involved in their wedding (CF, 12).

Effie's care for the victors can be understood as a symbolic interpretation here, too. She has come to care for Katniss and Peeta, and it is expressed by gestures such as offering Katniss sleeping pills (CF, 5). No more tributes associated with barbarianism, she, much like the Capitol, has uplifted Katniss and Peeta to a new status; now caring for them, because she assumes they are guaranteed a long life.

On the 3rd Quarter Quell reaping day, Effie gifts Peeta and Haymitch golden jewellery and wears golden hair. She is upset at Cecilia being reaped and has come to view the victors with a loving care despite their flaws, such as when expressing Chaff could not stay out of a fight. Overall, Effie cares for the victors and seems to be in visible distress at the Quarter Quell's prospect (CF, 14).

In much the same way, Peeta states that the people in the Capitol citizens are unhappy that the victors must return to the Games. In his words, the Capitol citizens got "attached to their champions" (CF, 14).

When the victors are being interviewed on Caesar's stage, their statements consist of appeals targeted at the audience, such as the victors' deep bonds created with the Capitol people. Once Katniss enters the stage, "the audience is an absolute wreck" and "the sight of me in my white silk bridal gown practically causes a riot" (CF, 17).

However, it is Peeta's statement that causes this riot. "As the bomb explodes, it sends accusations of injustice and barbarism and cruelty flying out in every direction. Even the most Capitol-loving, Games-hungry, bloodthirsty person out there can't ignore, at least for a moment, how horrific the whole thing is" (CF, 15).

The word "barbarism" is the Capitol's citizens journey—and by definition Effie's journey—they have had throughout the past year. From perceiving the tributes in such a manner to seeing the 75th Games for what they are, the reaping of the Capitol's champions, these who they have began to care for, is reason for great upset.

The implications for Effie have no villain-hero morality attached to them—she is marked by her representation—and is a morally grey character whose indoctrination is slowly shedding away. Her status as an oppressor are bound to her Capitol citizen status, as the Capitol reaps the fruits of the District's labour.

Like Effie, the Capitol citizen's had been indoctrinated and their beliefs around the Districts were shaped in their own understanding of being the peak of civilization, as their language expressed—"savages" (THG, 3) and charming local customs (THG, 4).

Their awakening, that of Effie and the Capitol, occurs simultaneously. Effie, remaining Katniss' frequent Capitol contact, is an expression and mirror of the Capitol society. Yet, her focus, similar to the audience's focus, on the victors alone remains a vital aspect to understanding her character. They system itself is not questioned. Instead, there is upset for having wronged the Capitol's "champions" (CF, 14). Their tears and upset do not evoke questioning the broader system. In that, the Capitol citizen and Effie herself are rendered in an ignorance about their own participation.

She is neither villain nor hero. Like her fellow citizens in the audience, she is a part of the system by being born into it. While her role as an escort has granted her a larger part in the Capitol's complicity, she remains a character whose upset is ultimately powerless and whose fear of the Capitol remains always present (CF, 17).

Okay, so I'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but to me, many of the characters within the narrative of THG are disabled/ have experienced disability in some way! Sorry for how long this post this about to be!

I'll explain further just so others can understand my thought process:

Katniss- Goes deaf in the first book, and whilst that is cured in the 2nd, throughout the rest of the trilogy has PTSD/ trauma, which is a disability/ becomes disabling.

EDIT: Katniss is indigenous (Gale and Haymitch are also part of the seam!) How disability and race intersect is important, too!

Peeta- Loses his leg and has to use a prosthetic, a visible disability, on top of the hijacking and how that affects his mental health.

Johanna- Also has PTSD and severe Hydrophobia due to being electrocuted by the Capitol- to the point where she can't go out into the rain and is used against her when applying to D 13's army. (Not sure if that's 100% correct, but Johanna stans, feel free to correct me!)

Beetee- Again, most likely has PTSD, but also in book 3, due to the lightning ( I think), he is in a wheelchair.

Enobaria- Again, PTSD; I also want to include how her teeth were fashioned into fangs ( Idr if it happened in the book!) But I'm unsure how that would affect her emotionally, physically, medically, etc., so I can't get deeper into that. I've put it down anyway.

Mags- Had a stroke, and her speech isn't as clear as it used to be. Also, she uses a cane, which was taken away from her during the 75th games, presumably because it can be used as a weapon, and she had to rely on Finnick to be mobile during that time in the arena, on top of PTSD or some form of trauma.

Haymitch- Has PTSD (i.e. the bad nightmares), and whilst nothing is said in the book, the alcoholism he has to use to cope with everything has probably messed his liver up. On top of that, the withdrawal symptoms whilst sobering up in D13 were probably disabling, too.

Annie- Has PTSD or Psychosis. She has hallucinations, putting her hands to her ears when triggered by things that remind her of the 70th games or being tortured.

Finnick- PTSD and had multiple breakdowns in D13. On top of the trauma that comes with sexual exploitation, which many other Victors would also have (maybe not the same presentation of symptoms/ coping mechanisms!) if/when Snow forced them into prostitution.

Also, obviously, Chaff, Seeder, Wiress, Cashmere, Cecilia, and basically every Victor is dealing with the trauma and various mental and physical problems after the games, which again are disabilities or disabling!

Non- Victors

Mrs Everdeen- Has depression that renders her mute and unresponsive after Mr Everdeen's death.

Gale- Not stated explicitly, but having to work in the same mines that killed your father, having to then be the one to have to hunt so they survive on top of being in poverty, and then having to save as many people from your district when Snow tries to bomb it would lead to some sort of impact on your mental, physical and emotional health. Also, the whipping he received in Catching Fire would leave a massive injury and be a nightmare for anyone.

Madge's mom- Has constant migraines, which I assume increased after Maysilee's death.

Pollux—He has his tongue cut out and communicates through gestures; this also applies to the rest of the Avox's.

District 10 Boy- in the 74th games, this tribute is described as having a crippled foot.

Those are all the characters from the book who are disabled or become disabled by the system. And I think the fandom forgets that a lot—which isn't helped by the movies erasing things like Johanna's Hydrophobia or Peeta's prosthetic leg. This is annoying to me as many characters, such as Annie, will get ableism thrown their way, yet that person's favourite character will actually be considered disabled- also because I am a disabled woman and having to put up with ableism is a nightmare anyway.

I know we talk about trauma such as PTSD and Psychosis a lot in this fandom, as we should! It's imperative to the message of THG's and the characters of these books! But I've never seen someone explicitly say these characters are disabled; they count as disability representation. And I think if we did that, then

a) We could talk about things like psychosis, PTSD and other traumas these characters experience with greater insight and find empathy and strength within characters we couldn't before and maybe the ableism thrown at the characters would lessen a bit as well.

b) Calling it disability/ disabling on top of the diagnosis would enable us to examine other bits of Panem and see another way it affects people. It would also provide a greater depth of analysis in terms of how we talk about poverty, the games, and other things within the narrative.

Such as how if you were a wheelchair user in the districts, especially D8-12, you wouldn't have access to a mobility aid, so you are either forced to find or create an unsuitable mobility aid such as a cane or are effectively left without aid. On top of this, if they did have a wheelchair (I highly doubt it!) It would be taken away because it could be used as a weapon ( like Glimmer's ring or Mags's cane- also, wheelchairs make good battering rams), so you would be left immobile. We could also discuss how D1-D4 are wealthier and how that affects things like disability and healthcare compared to D7, 8, 9, 10,11,12. Also how D1, D2, D3 and 5 or 6 have the materials or would be the Districts most able to make mobility aids if the Capitol even let them.

This is also a double-edged sword because I know if this conversation around disability within THG starts, there will be many that are going to have some terrible takes. It's going to make my blood pressure rise, and it'll be a nightmare to combat and, as a disabled woman, worse to read. And if this discussion does take off, then I'm gonna need this fandom to understand the three models of disability at a bare minimum! Not that you can't comment without that knowledge at all it just will save a lot of bad takes!

DISCLAIMER- I am just one disabled woman. There are plenty of disabled ppl within this fandom with a different opinion from mine, and I AM NOT AN EXPERT on disability!

TLDR: Many of the characters are disabled and yet face ableism within fandom when they shouldn't. We should start explicitly analysing the series through a disability lens on top of the ones we already explore, but I am terrified by the terrible takes and analysis that would occur.

the sun beamed down upon an ocean of grass, trees and flowers alike waving hello as you passed. cecilia’s stretched into your field of view, craving the soft linger of your fingertips, and the insects watched from afar, letting butterflies and birds cross your path instead. the earth swallowed sharp rocks and threatening stones, allowing you to move unhindered. the air was calm, perfect, the slightest of breezes brushing across your skin and rippling your clothes. the sun was warm, but not hot, there just enough for the wind to soothe.

joy.

the statue was tall, it’s figure kind. the small blue ball pulsed as you approached, but there was no surge as with the traveller. instead, it was as if the world around you became more alive for a moment, an invisible voice on the wind saying hello. you did not wield the wind, it followed you. it guided your hand up to birds and other wildlife, it swayed the lamp grass as you passed, encouraging you to pick one of the small plants to take with you. the earth will not mind, for to travel with you is payment ten times over.

confusion.

the city’s walls stretched tall, imposing, an island that lost any welcome to its character. you want to frown as the wind urges you away, towards the peaceful fields once more. the slimes are tame in your presence, the hilichurls have gifted you fruit, and the wilderness has been so pleasant; won’t you agree to stay a little longer? you don’t want to, you remember the city, the guards at the front and the birds on the bridge. it is not an enemy. the wind insists it is.

concern.

the boy stared as you passed, though his birds did not flee. they hopped up to you, as all others have, and you stopped to pet them. the pidgeons cooed and chirped, the small claws on their feet clicking against the stone. the boy was running, the wind urging you to run, even as you straightened. why? why were you in danger? why was the boy talking to the guards?

apprehension.

a sharp shout. a pale cry. man and animal alike cried injustice. weapons were taken from their place, blades drawn from sheaths, helmets joining the rest of the armor. you stand, surrounded by birds, by the wind, by the butterflies that land on your shoulders and flap their wings in a small sort of rage. the guards form a wall, a platoon, one that’s shouting words you don’t understand. you haven’t done anything, so why are they angry? the wind urges you to run. you hold your ground.

unease.

two- three people push their way to the front, blue uniforms and purple hats and white fur gleaming under the suddenly too-hot sun. the guards ask the woman in the middle a question. she nods.

indecision.

the wind howls a storm, the sun beating down upon the metal armor. the birds cry and caw, the bridge quickly turning into a hurricane of distrust with you at the eye. a small figure launches themself off the city wall, landing in a crouch in front of the three. they do not look surprised; neither do the guards. he’s reaching for something at his side. do you run, as the wind so desperately urges you to?

tension.

the small figure shouts a warning you do not hear, his words hidden within the gale surrounding you. a moment’s pause. everything happens at once.

calamity.

the guards draw their swords, the three at the front doing the same with the exception of the woman on the left, who pulls a book out of nowhere. the boy in the front raises a bow—the air is only barely able to redirect it from you in time.

horror.

the birds flutter as you turn, finally understanding the hurricane’s call. the insects around you buzz angrily, you’re surprised they’re not swept up in the storm but are too caught up in running. the stone is hard under your feet, the wind at your back pushing you along at an almost inhuman speed. you understand why it didn’t want you hear, why it fought with silent words and pulled with invisible hands. you wish you had trusted it.

fear.

your feet thudded against the earth, digging in and kicking up, digging in and kicking up, pushing you along your path. you couldn’t falter, you couldn’t stop, you couldn’t. you had to run. shouts and cries followed you, human and not, the trees opening before you only to swing back down in the face of your attackers. the cyclone around you spurs you forward, and you follow wherever it leads. you know better.

you only wish it hadn’t come at such a price.

Story: 2/5 - Without sufficient intrigue, the central mystery feels repetitive and randomly resolved. Additionally, any humor is forced.

Performances: 2.5/5 - No one stands out save for Loftus as the sarcastic, old matriarch. Crawford is a second-rate Bob Hope and Lugosi is little more than a cameo.

Cinematography: 4/5 - The film's strongest feature. Some creative framing and great use of oblique shadows reminiscent of expressionism.

Music: 3.5/5 - Largely fitting.

Sets: 4/5 - The mansion is almost its own character, both luxurious and on the verge of disrepair with secret passages.

name 10 songs with 10 names in the titles that I like and tag 10 people at the end.

So I wasn't personally tagged on this, but after reading @allisonreader's post, I was inspired to do it. They left it open for their followers, so here I am listing 10 songs that I like that have names in the title.

I didn't realize writing a post with no pictures is extremely intimidating  🙃

i. Gale Song by The Lumineers - I can easily list the whole album where this song came from, but I only picked two that I like the most. One of them is the Gale Song. One of my go-to's when I'm having a campfire

Favourite line/s: "When you say my name, may it never give you pain"

ii. Marilyn Monroe by Nicki Minaj - I still remember when I first purchased the album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded back in 2012, and this was the first song that really caught my attention. It's still one of my favourite Nicki songs. It's also special coz one of the few songs where Nicki did not rap.

Favourite line/s: "Truth is we mess up till we get it right" "I can get low, don't know which way is up. Yeah I can get high, like I could never come down"

iii. Vincent by Don McLean - One of the few songs that I remember my dad listened to when he was alive

Favourite line/s: ."..how you suffered for your sanity and how you tried to set them free. They would not listen, they did not know how" "And when no hope was left in sight on that starry, starry night you took your life, as lovers often do"

iv. Cecilia by Simon & Garfunkel - This song is a 'cleaning the house' staple for me. It just gives me so much positive energy

Favourite line/s: "Jubilation, she loves me again I fall on the floor and I'm laughin"

v. Angela by The Lumineers - the second song from the album Cleopatra - where The Gale Song also came from. Definitely a road trip/campfire song.

Favourite line/s: "Strangers in this town, they raise you up just to cut you down"

vi. A Rose for Emily by The Zombies - a really depressing song I discovered from a really depressing podcast. If you haven't listened to the Podcast "S-Town", give it a whirl.

Favourite line/s: "She keeps her pride somehow that's all she has protecting her from pain" "...as the years go by she will grow old and die. The roses in her garden fade away, not one left for her grave"

vii. Hey Jude by The Beatles - classic. Probably my favourite Beatles song.

Favourite line/s: "anytime you feel the pain, hey Jude, refrain, don't carry the world upon your shoulders" "Na-na-na-na-na Na-na-na-na, hey Jude Jude, Jude, Jude, Jude, Jude, Jude"

viii. Billie Jean by Michael Jackson - another classic. Don't have much to say about this song

Favourite line/s: "... be careful of what you do 'cause the lie becomes the truth"

ix. Think of Aaliyah by Boys II Men - probably the most 'deep track' on this list. A tribute to Aaliyah. RIP. A cover of "Think of Laura" by Christopher Cross.

Favourite line/s: "Hey Aaliyah, where are you now? Are you far away from here? I don't think so I think you're here taking our tears away"

x. Helena Beat by Foster the People - I still remember that year when I only listened to the album 'Torches' non-stop. It was a good year.

Favourite line/s: "You know those days when you wanted to choose to not get out of bed and get lost in your head again"

As for Magdalena, her days were mostly spent reading and writing.

She’d also started attending the weekly meetings of the local women’s suffrage movement.

The memories of Cecilia haunted her less and less. That was until one day, as she was walking to one of the meetings, she saw Cecilia standing outside the house where the meetings were held.

Magdalena froze, all the feelings she up until now had managed to push to the back of her mind came washing over her once more. She soon gathered herself however and walked up to Cecilia, clearing her throat as she got closer, "good evening, ms. Grey," she said coldly.

Cecilia looked up with watery eyes, "Magda," she said, her voice hoarse, "I was hoping to see you."

Magdalena chuckled dryly. How ironic, she thought, I´m in control now, "well, here I am. Say your piece."

"I wanted to apologize," Cecilia sighed. Magdalena stepped closer and narrowed her eyes, her past lover pressing herself against the wall, seemingly wanting to sink through the floor, "I´m sorry."

"I don´t want your apology," Magdalena said, shaking her head, "it´s too late Cecilia.”

Maureen family really is the worst, but her brother intrigues me. Did he also distanced himself from his father and others? What does he think of Gale? Did he fought in the war?

Yeah, I really headcanon the both of these Kendeigh siblings being distanced from the family intentionally while being “socially” near. Because a big ole break in that society is just a mess and funny enough, like a sick Venus Fly Trap, that society won’t let its victims go fully, no matter how shitty you were treated or what kinda scene you made at dinner about hating them all, you will be getting a RSVP invitation to cousin Cecilia’s wedding next summer and you’re the asshole for not showing.

Lance did fight in the navy and as such was rather admiring of Maureen’s choice to join, wasn’t sure she’d be any good but he was somewhat proud. Probably snickered like a little brother would when she was flunked from being a pilot. He was also the only one to send her letters in the stalag.

He likes Gale well enough, I think? Theyve got about nothing in common except for liking dudes and that’s not something Gale Cleven talks about while sunning by the pool with a random brother in law so, it’s a rather quiet affair except for Lance’s ramblings and the splintering of Gale’s toothpicks
