It's Check-In Weekend #1!

From our Information and Guidelines page:

For authors: "When the first check-in date comes, you must have proof of either: a coherent, detailed story idea (a few paragraphs) or a comprehensive outline. Check-in drafts must be typed."

For artists: "When the first check-in date comes, you must have either a coherent, detailed art idea (a few paragraphs) or very rough sketches for both art pieces (or the equivalent). "

All of that still holds! Later today, you'll be receiving a message from @catstrophysics if I haven't heard from you on the check-in yet (this isn't a problem, some people just like to get out ahead of it). When you hear from me, just send some proof that you have what we've asked for above, and you'll be all set! This is just to ensure you've started working.

Check-in #1!

Hello, writers!

We are approaching our first check-in, which is next Friday, August 18th. This is designed mostly as a way to (hopefully) help writers pace themselves and avoid a last-minute panicked Deadline Crunch.

What should be submitted for this check-in?

Essentially, what we're looking for is confirmation that you've gotten started. The baseline requirement is either an outline (whatever that means to you) or 25% of your minimum wordcount (which would be 2,500 for Big Bang participants or 625 for Mini Bang participants). Please send all submissions to the event email: battlestargalacticabigbang @ gmail.com

This does not need to be finalized, or edited. And there is still time to scrap your entire plan and write something completely different, if you feel like you can complete that by the final deadline--you're not locked into a particular story until story details are due on September 15).

If you're seeing this post and are just now realizing you'd like to sign up--don't worry! Signups are still open, it's not too late!

For this and all other deadlines, if it's still August 18th (or whatever the applicable date is) anywhere in the world, you're good to go.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again

so we're out for a meal at one of those fancy tasting menu places and they went on about the sourdough for some elements of it so i was obv delighted to talk yeast with the chef

and when they bring us out our bill stuff and little extras at the end of the night look what i was gifted:
