Hi! I have a question. Im not entirely sure if these belong to chinese fashion because I only ever saw them in uncredited pictures. Theyre very intricate "eye patches", seemingly made from like gold or metal? they cover only one eye and I was wondering if they have a name or if its something made up? thank you for all your work!
Hi, thanks for the question, and sorry for taking ages to reply! (x)
Tumblr media
The intricate gold/metal "eye patches" covering only one eye that you see are most likely based on "半面妆/Ban Mian Zhuang" ("Half Face Makeup"), a popular Chinese novel written by 萧十一狼/Xiao Shi Yi Lang and published in 2015. Well-known Chinese gufeng-style illustrator 古戈力/Gu Ge Li provided beautiful artwork for the novel, as seen below (1, 2):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gu Ge Li's artwork inspired many hanfu photoshoots with ornate eyemasks (1, 2, 3, 4, 5):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These eyemasks are essentially made-up fantasy masks with Chinese elements incorporated into the design. They are not based on historical Chinese masks, which look very different. Thus you can just call them 面具/mianju, which is the general Chinese term for masks.
On a related note, similar types of fantasy masks also appear frequently in Chinese guzhuang (period costume) films & dramas, especially in the wuxia and xianxia genres. As @audreydoeskaren touched on in this post, these masks are typically not historically accurate, but are included for aesthetic effect (like many other elements in guzhuang media).
Below - fantasy masks in Chinese film/dramas. Clockwise from top left: women - Painted Skin: The Resurrection, Legend of Nine Tails Fox, The Empress of China, The Blue Whisper; men - Love and Redemption, Xuan-Yuan Sword: Scar of Sky, The Untamed, Battle Through the Heavens:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Deriving inspiration from art and television, fantasy masks have become a popular accessory for hanfu photoshoots.
For more examples of Chinese masks (both historical & fantasy), please see my masks and eyemask tags.
Hope this helps! ^^

Full Name: Hong Joshua Stage Name: Joshua Group: Seventeen DOB: 30.12.1995 Blood Type: A MBTI: ENFJ Sun Sign: Capricorn Chinese Sign: Wood Pig Life Path Number: 3
Spread / Question: Ideal Partner Deck(s): Tarot in Wonderland
Tumblr media
Body - Ace of Cups
Joshua’s special person is likely someone who doesn’t seem to stand out in a crowd, they just blend in with the surroundings and follow the dress code that’s common in their field of work. They look completely ordinary like a tea cup, just one out of many in the cupboard of life. This plain and mundane look on the outside is likely to be a coverup for their real special and quirky self. In private, this grey mouse is likely to change utterly and feel most natural wearing something completely different from their usual apparel. Maybe they love to cosplay or maybe they love to wear like a vintage or steampunk fashion or maybe they just walk around their apartment in a unicorn onesie.
Heart - Page of Cups
Joshua’s ideal partner is a dreamer at heart. They might often space out or seem lost in their thoughts as they might have a tendency to daydream. Their inner life is very rich, they have many brilliant and unique ideas but they might lack the expertise or confidence to turn them into reality and so they just stock them up in their drawer, waiting for the time when they receive some well meant push to materialise them.
Spirit - Queen of Cups
Joshua’s perfect match is a very sensitive person, they can navigate through the emotional waters very well and they are likely to be highly emotionally mature. They don’t throw tantrums and they don’t give silent treatments to people, they are more than capable of communicating everything and anything through the way the other party won’t get upset regardless of the issue. This person is a down-to-earth romantic and while they do like to fantasise about a perfect romance, they have realistic expectations when it comes to their real life relationships. Joshua’s special partner is a person of well-developed intuition and they are likely to be able to help with processing complex emotions and feelings to other people while they don’t get personally overly engaged in the drama.
Soul - 5 of Cups
Joshua’s destined partner wasn’t born emotionally mature, they have been through things that left scars on their souls and hurt them. While they might have been through emotionally challenging times, those only helped them to grow and become a better person. They could have stayed bitter about the failures or disappointments but they decided to see the positive side of it all. Instead of holding grudges, Joshua’s special person let go of hate and resentment and embraced the little gifts in life. They managed to recognize the blessings rather than focusing on what went wrong. And this helped them to reach the emotional calm and peace of mind they have now.
Time - 7 of Swords
First thing that comes to my mind here is a thief of hearts. Joshua’s ideal partner might sort of sneak into his life and slowly but steadily build a close connection with him. See how the person on the card is leaving but leaving traces? Joshua’s significant other might try to escape as they recognize things are getting too serious but they - intentionally or unintentionally - leave so many traces behind them that it’s not a problem for Joshua to track them down and continue with the romance.
Place - VIII Strength
Joshua’s ideal partner is likely to create a very safe home for them both to live in. They might be very protective of him but at the same time respecting his nature and his ambitions. Joshua’s perfect match is likely to adjust their home in order to make it most comfortable for them both. If Joshua needs to travel, his partner is going to travel with him and turn any hotel room into an improvised home nest.
Possible Physical Features
Tumblr media
(Joshua’s Ideal Partner might only have one or two of these features or they can have them all.)

Okay here’s the thing, some of you are asking for the 2019 Aziracrow Cosplay Pics** in my inbox, and upon reflection how could we not. You’re gonna get so much more lore than you could’ve ever asked for or wanted, though. This is a long post, and I almost want to apologize for it. **Pre-HRT baby face pics ahead
For context, Damien and I have known each other since freshmen year of high school, 2012. In fact, we had like no classes together, and whenever one of us mentioned our nerd shit in class the first couple of days, kids kept telling us we HAD to meet each other. We finally met in a history class after they got transferred into it, and exchanged fandom memes back and forth after school on the sidewalk that day until our rides picked us up, and pretty much from then on freshmen year EVERYONE thought and asked if we were two little queer kids dating in our Catholic School.
And of course we weren’t— we just sat in each others’ laps a lot, or grabbed at each other a lot, and were a little inseparable for a while. Neither of us read anything into this. We were also, very importantly, cringey little 14-15 year old SuperWhoLock girlies, only I didn’t watch Supernatural, and they didn’t really watch Doctor Who, and we both thought Sherlock was pretty good. We supplemented our own love for our special little shows for the other. We were so inseparable that Damien’s 1-month-long-freshmen-boyfriend got them a Doctor Who gift for Valentine’s Day. The key to the Eleventh Doctor’s TARDIS. (My favorite, at the time, and also one that I knew they definitely sold at the comic book shop up the block.) They break up with him for giving them chocolates with nuts(allergy), and immediately give my little autistic ass the TARDIS key at lunch. Neither of us read anything into this. This is a common theme.
Damien, at some point, tells me to read a book they love, Good Omens. Due to my brain being the way it is, it takes about 3-4 business years, until college, to read Good Omens at their recommendation.
Damien is one of my best friends throughout high school and college. I also think it’s important to note that they were a jock, and I was a theatre kid. And the only time I convinced them to do something, a haunted house, with the drama club, to share a hobby maybe, they got hit in the head with a lightsaber by a 1st grader and needed stitches immediately after we started.
ANYWAYS.
I get Damien into cosplay a year or so later- 2013? 2014?
But it also takes us years to cosplay together- we would help with each others’ cosplays a lot. By that I mean I built a bunch of their props and they helped by getting the supplies with me and generally just hanging out. It takes us until 2019 to cosplay together.
Good Omens is out on Amazon Prime.
We text each other.
“Do you want to do a couple’s cosplay of this?
Yes, yes of course I do.
And yes, of course you’re Crowley, and of course I’m Aziraphale. And of course I’m Crowley, and of course you’re Aziraphale.”
Tumblr media
Pretty much every week that summer, we built our wings from scratch, from wire and masking tape and ethically sourced goose and duck feathers and mall Chinese food. We go out and plan and shop for our gay little outfits. We sit and talk in their car, in my driveway, for ages every time, every night.
Tumblr media
Another fun fact: this was the same convention that I painstakingly painted their tits blue for. And also painstakingly helped them wash blue off of in the shower, drunk, later that night. Unrelated, Aziraphale was the first cosplay I felt comfortable in.
Another fun fact: while getting ready for the photo shoot we booked that morning, my family dog scared my cat Almondmilk, and he peed all over my Aziraphale cosplay, and I yelled a bit. Our photographer rescheduled, blessedly, and a few hours later our photographer was asking how we wanted to stage the kiss, since of COURSE there had to be a kiss, but instead we sort of just—
Tumblr media
“We’re really good friends— We’ve known each other since high school— We’ve already seen so much of each other this is no big deal— Do you need another shot?”
“Uh-huh,” Our photographer says, knowingly. “I think maybe one more, if we’re comfortable with—“
“Oh yeah, no problem at all-“
“Uh-huh, Yeah,” Our photographer says, knowingly. “Tilt your head up more.”
Not many couples can say they somehow managed to get their first kiss documented and edited in HD.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Damien got nauseous at the last day of the con, and the only thing we had to help were these honey sticks from a tea shop booth. They couldn’t open the little sticks themself, with their fangs in, so I took them and ripped them open with my teeth to give to them. Completely, totally unrelated, though, I think this was the summer I began to realize, perhaps realize once more, that I was so absolutely done for for Damien.
Anyways all of that went SO well, that we were planning every Ineffable Husbands cosplay we could. Somehow, our most logical next choice was a fun and very quick, messy little boudoir photo shoot in my college dorm room, while they were visiting me 3+ hours away from their school.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Down so bad you lovingly pack wigs to go to college with so that you can have your best friend sit in your lap for your little ship.
We did that as Just Good Friends, literally in front of an old friend who took the photos and helped us stage the poses a bit.
We went to sleep that night in that bed. It was big enough to fit 3, maybe even 4 people if you were in a pinch. The bed was not treated like it was that big. (Note, we now sleep on a full sized bed, and it’s suddenly too small.)
And we talked for a while and we went to bed and all I could think about was how much I loved them no matter the sense of the word. And how many nights we sat talking in your car in my driveway for way too long, wondering if I should ask if I could kiss you. (A quick pronoun change, because I know you’re reading this.)
And
Nothing
Came
Of
This
For
LIKE
FOUr
MORE
YEARS.
Just good friends. Just good, good friends.
And that’s how Good Omens helped me realize, in retrospect of 2019, how in love I was with my Crowley best friend.

Dear BL Legend,
Do you have recs for Bodyguard romances except Kinnporsche. Any country. Any quality. (Actually the insaner the better) I have an itch to scratch.
The only ones that qualify as bodyguard romances are:
Golden Blood
Where Your Eyes Linger
Never Let Me Go
Advance Bravely (sort of, if you can stomach the censorship, it is INSANE tho)
It's not a super popular romance chassis in Asian dramas in general. Sadly.
Oh right, erm, what's that historical Chinese one? Legend of Long Yang: Rebirth, something like that. It's on Gaga. It's QUITE bonkers. Whipping boy trope… literally, servant character takes the strap for the prince, who then makes him his bodyguard and lover when he becomes king. Low budget historical, comes off as kind of cosplay wuxia version of Irresistible Love, but we get (in the credits) an actual kiss, and they both live. So yay for small mercies.
Weirdly, if you want insanity that might scratch the same itch you might consider Addicted. There's certainly a "protective no one can bully him but me" thing going on with that one. Although baby can TOTALLY take care of himself.

Hello! I am looking to cosplay wei wuxian and/or xie lian(from the donghua) can you please describe the layers of their clothes, I have zero experience in sewing clothes or pattern making and I have no idea where to even begin. Thank you very much!
Hello there, Sorry for the slow reply, I've been distracted by real life and my continued PT for my wrist. But I can type much more normally at least now. As far as Wei Wuxian, I haven't really looked at his outfits seeing that he's got so many different versions in the live action CQL/The Untamed and in the MDZS donghua and manhua as well. I'm not a huge fan of MDZS, so, I can admit I haven't paid much attention to it. I think like most MXTX characters, he relies on a heavy black/red color palette and is pretty open to interpretation. I think focusing on the donghua would be your best bet since when you have to animate someone you would simplify their outfit, but the drama might have more realistic clothing to draw from since and actor wore it. Xie Lian is considerably easier since he wears many layers of white. I think the main thing to realize with all these outfits is that you have a foundation layer and then multiple layers over top with great variations.
The foundation layer (zhong yi) is usually the skin layer in white (cotton/linen) that it is breathable and washable. It seems for a more dramatic effect a character like WWX will have this as black. This is a top and pants combo, but I was lazy and skipped out on pants for my Wen Kexing b/c it was very warm already. I don't use Taobao sites (no Chinese skillz here) but it might be worth your while to look at some of the hanfu retailers to see how they construct their tidy little package outfits.
Like Hanfu Story which has a very good website and plenty of english language descriptions. Even though the colors aren't plain white, this one has a very close match to what XL wears. It has the skirt with the slight pleating like XL and simple sleeves and cut.
Tumblr media
It is interesting to note that many of these outfits only sell the top layers, not that base layer.
When it comes to determining the exact layers just look at the neckline, that pretty much lets you know what else is on top of that base layer.
If this is your first time sewing and drafting a pattern, I would enlist the help of a friend who may have more sewing experience. Also, since many of these outfits don't reveal the full aspect of all of their layers, you have to guess what you think is underneath - that is what I did after lots of screen shots from as many angles as possible - or hoping for a zhong yi late night confession scene (as in Word of Honor) which allowed me to nail the sleeve shape for all the layers. I'll do and example with XL since his outfit is much easier.
Tumblr media
As we can see here, he's only got two layers.
The inner layer is more form fitting in the torso, with wide-ish sleeves. The skirt portion appears to be pleated, which is why we get a ripple effect in the front. It appears the outer layer is a simple straight hem robe with wider sleeves that he wears very loosely since it flares back. You can't tell from this picture but the left side should also have a slit that runs along the left side of his body to allow for easy movement - it isn't a full rap around robe structure. He has a narrow belt that is tied off with the cyan colored cord and his bandages and basic hat. I haven't watched the donghua for awhile so I can't remember if he also has pants on underneath the pleated skirt. I'd go back and refer to the scene where San Lang notices the shackle on his ankle to see what he's wearing then.
When it comes to picking a layer to draft first for the pattern, it really doesn't matter. You will need to make a mock up and adjust. If you want it to be the inner layer it will need to be the same length but less wide than the outer layer. I just made a pattern and tested it out - it was terrible but hey, I knew where to go from after that. Good luck and hope this helps!

LWJ Cosplay Log - Master Post
Tumblr media
Making Lan Wangji
(AKA My Lan Zhan Cosplay Log)
This went from a historical project to cosplaying all the Hanguang-Jun, Lan Wangji in existence!  The main concept is Lan Wangji’s (LWJ) novel/manhua/audio drama design.  As the project started pre-pandemic, I didn’t consider the butler or dragon au in the design.  That would be too much.  There is a dash of videogame in him since there were some details I liked in that model.  If the title is “Mo Dao Zu Shi” then I have incorporated Lan Wangji’s description and concept arts into my design.
Lan Wangji as known in The Untamed was generally avoided save for a tiny nod to the show’s Gusu Lan Clan.  “Mo Dao Zu Shi” Wangji and “Untamed” Wangji are distinct in my opinion.  Neither is superior from the other, just different enough that I need to pick one interpretation to play with.  The actors of Untamed, especially Xiao Zhan, really claimed the characters as their own and portrayed them wonderfully.  Wang Yibo’s Wangji is his Wangji, I won’t interfere that.  If you want to see that interpretation of Lan Wangji, then go watch the show.  It already exists.
A few caveats before you dive in:
1)     I am not a seamstress or tailor so I don’t know all the proper sewing terminology in English or any other language 2)     Also, modern romanization of Chinese confuses the shit out of me, a native speaker, so apologies for any spelling mistakes.  The Yale Romanization made so much more sense but then China thought they understood the English alphabet better than native English speakers so here we are.  Do as the Romans do, I guess. 3)     I am not a historical costumer either so all my info come from conjecture and research 4)     I am not a Chinese historian but I like to think I know enough about my history and culture through osmosis and the hell-hole disguised as Chinese school to talk about it 5)     I am not trying to make an authentic historical costume, I’m trying to make an anachronistic fantasy costume. Historicity went out the window the minute LWJ and every adult character decided to have their hair down.  I did try to make a semi-historically accurate version?  Depended on the mood at time of construction. 6)     I suck at being Chinese apparently so that will be my safety net if everything fails horribly :P
The Lan Zhan Cosplay Log Layer 1:  Undergarments! Layer 0:  Hair, Props, “Cheating,” & Overall Stats

Finally posted the first part of making Zhou Zishu cosplay on YouTube. This video is showing how I made the under garments and tunic of this commission. The next video will be about the over coat. It is really hard to flim making hanfu since some of the pieces can be really large. Also compared to the over coat the under layers can be a little boring to look at. I hope you guys enjoy this ^_^

Naomi's Basic Info
Tumblr media
Name: Naomi Seika Sato
Now, I know Naomi has only appeared maybe three times in my writing (the winter stories from 2022), but I have plans on adding her to some of my future stories, so I figured I might as well make a board for her. Again, this was surprisingly easy, and the only one I had any difficulty finding was an actress from the 60s as there weren't a ton of well-known Asian actresses. Anyway, in the 60s, we have Irene Tsu (How To Stuff a Wild Bikini); the 80s, Cherie Chung (An Autumn's Tale); the 90s, Nicole Bilderback (Bring It On); and now, Momona Tamada (Avatar: The Last Airbender).
Nicknames: Mimi, NayNay (by very few people), and Koneko (a Japanese term of endearment that means "kitten". Only her grandparents call her that, and it's mostly her grandfather)
Age: 17
Date of Birth: September 29
Zodiac: Libra
Birthstone: Sapphire
Nationality: Asian-American
Sexuality: Asexual, but don't tell her grandmother that. The woman desperately wants grandbabies, and Naomi has no interest in ever giving her any. Her parents and grandfather know and don't care so long as she's happy, but they all know better than to tell her grandma.
Birthplace: St. John's Riverside Hospital, Yonkers, New York
Current Residence: Park Street, Rockland, Maine
Occupation: High school junior, professional figure skater, junior medical assistant at her parent’s office
Talents/Skills: Acting (mostly in high school or town productions), making flip books, animating short videos
Birth order: Only
Parents: Kyoya Jin Sato and Hina Mai Suoh
Signature:
Tumblr media
Height: 5’1”
Race: Japanese-American
Eye Color: Dark brown, almost black
Hair Color: Brown
Glasses or contact lenses: Glasses for reading, contacts for fun
Distinguishing features: A birthmark on her hip that looks almost like a cherry blossom, a scar on her inner right calf from a skating incident, and a single dimple on her left cheek
Mannerisms: Bopping her head to music, mumbling to herself while working on projects, and keeping the tip of her tongue between her lips when she’s deep in thought
Health: Chronic migraines, Type-1 Diabetes, and POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome)
Hobbies: Gardening, baking, watching anime and Chinese historical dramas, playing cozy games, scrolling Pinterest, writing fanfictions, and cosplaying
Greatest flaw (in their opinion): How everyone still sees her as a child/childish. As the only child/grandchild in her family, Naomi is often babied by her family members. Her father was an only child, and her mother was the only daughter of four kids and was the golden child, leading to Naomi feeling more like a toddler as anyone who came to visit would treat her like a little doll. She appreciates their love and care, but all she really wants is for her family to see her as the near-adult she is, not some naive little girl in need of shelter from the outside world. In a way, that was the reason she and Lexi became friends. She needed someone in her life who treated her like an actual person, not a child.
Best quality (in their opinion): Her determination to succeed in everything she does. While she doesn’t fear failure or disappointing her family, she strives to be the best version of herself she can be. Whether it’s working hard at her family’s practice, learning new skating skills, or trying out a new recipe, Naomi puts her whole heart into all she does. She is a very determined individual, but that doesn’t stop her from taking breaks now and then or spending time caring for herself.
Biggest fear: Losing her sense of self for the sake of others. Naomi is fairly confident in who she is as a person - an intelligent, pink-loving, figure skater who wants nothing more than to help her parents run their practice. However, she fears that someday, if she were to find herself looking for a different job or maybe falling in love, those people would try to change who she is for the sake of professionalism and maturity. She has taken the time to grow into who she is and finally loves herself just as she is; the last thing she wants is for someone to try to change her to meet their needs. If they can’t love her for who she is, Naomi knows it isn’t worth it, but she knows she wants love sometime down the road, and the thought of giving up her style and personality for someone to see her as a mature human being is something that deeply terrifies her. Real life is nothing like the books or movies she loves so deeply, after all, and she knows this. That is why she keeps many potential friendships/relationships at a distance until she knows they won’t try to change her.
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw
Favorite ice cream: Strawberry mochi
Favorite color: Pastel pink
Favorite number: 2, as the number represents balance and harmony in Japanese culture
Favorite songs: ballad of a homeschooled girl by Olivia Rodrigo, ALICE by PEGGY, and Platonic Love Song #1 by Lauren Bird
A place they want to visit: Forbidden City, China, or Bunkyo City, Japan

ACOTAR should be a C-Drama
If they're gonna do an acotar live action it should be done in China. Chinese Xian Xia dramas already have all elements of acotar built into the genre eg the realms
If anyone watches C-dramas - specifically xian xia - you know how the demon realm almost always has a sort of Arabian or Turkic inspiration*? (thinking of LBFAD with Cangyan Sea where the Moon Tribe live)
Doesn't that remind you of the Night Court? Especially acomaf NC that had the girls in harem pants and cropped tops like they were in Princess Jasmine cosplays.
