#chocolate Carmel cookies

Chocolate Carmel cookies

Makes 4 dozen cookies

(Candy coating chips can be found in party supply stores)

Ingredients

25 caramel candies

7 tablespoons butter

¼ cup sugar

½ teaspoon vanilla

¼ cup old-fashioned oats

¾ cup flour

2 tablespoons cocoa

¼ cup finely chopped pecans

1½ tablespoons milk

2 cups milk chocolate candy coating chips

2 tablespoons white chocolate candy coating chips

Directions

Preheat the oven to 375° F.

In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar. Add the vanilla.

In a separate bowl, combine the oats, flour, and cocoa. Add to the butter mixture. Stir in the pecans.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and pat to a ⅛-inch thickness. Cut with a 1-inch round cookie cutter. (If you don't have one this size, use a well-floured bottle cap.)

Place on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.

Remove from the sheets and cool on wire racks.

While the cookies are cooling, in a medium-size saucepan, melt the caramels with the milk. Stir until smooth.

Place about ½ teaspoon caramel on top of one cookie and top with another cookie. (If the caramel runs off the cookie, wait a couple of minutes for it to thicken.)

Chill for about 15 minutes to set the caramel.

Melt the milk chocolate chips in the microwave or the top of a double boiler until smooth. If you're using the microwave, place the chocolate in a shallow bowl, heat for 1 minute, stir, heat for 30 seconds more, and stir. The chocolate will be more melted than it looks; don't burn it!

Remove the cookies from the refrigerator and dip each cookie in melted chocolate.

Place on wax paper to cool.

Melt the white chocolate chips in the microwave for 45 seconds or the top of a double boiler. Drizzle each cookie with a light band of white chocolate.

I know that a lot of American Jews felt a special kinship with Hersh Goldberg-Polin because of his Americanness. Although I never met him and hadn't heard of him before October 7th, my connection to him was a bit deeper than your average American Jew. My brother is in the same grade as some of Hersh's cousins, who are members of the same synagogue as my family. My brother was in Hebrew school classes with Hersh's family. I know these people. And because of this connection, my synagogue community also took a special interest in the fight to bring Hersh and all the other hostages home. I don't claim to know the pain of Hersh's immediate family, but the news last night just hit way too close to home.

In March, my campus Chabad handed out mitzvot for the hostages. I randomly grabbed a bag of Shabbat candles. I had drawn lighting candles for Hersh. That same Shabbat, I was over at a friend's house for dinner. The person who had brought dessert had made Hersh's chocolate chip cookies from the recipe posted as part of the hostage family cookbook. I felt like I was getting some sort of sign, but I didn't really know what to make of it. I got just a little bit of extra hope from that weekend.

It's hard to comprehend such a huge tragedy, but having one person that I connected with made it that much more real, that much more human and personal. I want all of the hostages home, and I really wanted Hersh home. I wanted that joy and relief for my community. Because of the work of Rachel and Jon, Hersh's parents, I had hope. Hersh was going to come home alive.

But he didn't. He was murdered by his captors just before the IDF got to him. He'd endured almost 11 months of captivity and torture just to be killed because the people that had stolen him didn't want him to be able to go home. He was only a few years older than me. He'd gone to a music festival. He worked for peace. Hersh Goldberg-Polin was kidnapped and murdered for having the audacity to be alive.

Yes, we should have had a ceasefire-hostage deal months ago. Yes, Netanyahu and his right-wing sycophants stood in the way of that and continue to stand in the way of a deal. Yes, Hamas also refuses to negotiate in good faith. I applaud the protestors in Israel who are pressuring their government to take any deal that brings their family home. But playing the blame game from our phones in the US won't bring Hersh back. It won't erase the pit I feel in my chest right now or fill the hole that will exist in the hearts of the Goldberg-Polin family for the rest of their lives. We must sit with the tragedy before we start debating if the person who pulled the trigger or the person who did nothing about the person holding the gun is more at fault.

Baruch Dayan HaEmet. May Hersh's memory be a blessing, and may the memories of Ori, Almog, Alex, Eden, and Carmel be blessings themselves.

Remus Lupin x (F)Reader

Summary: (Y/N) helps Remus with a hole in his favorite sweater. Which leads to somewhat unexpected feeling almost coming out.

Part 2

Sitting on the common room couch, (Y/N) silently did her potions homework. She hadn't had much luck with potions this year, potions currently being one of her hardest subjects.

Well, she was working on potions homework until a certain group of rowdy boys came into the common room. James and Sirius were squabbling about something, which wasn't uncommon for the two. One might even think they were a pair of sibling fighting over the last cookie, or who gets to sit on mom's lap.

(Y/N) was getting rather bored of her potions homework, so she welcomed the distraction when James and Sirius came to her to settle their dispute.

"(Y/N)! Toffee, the obviously better choice." James says, sneaking the snide comment about whatever the other option was.

"Or Carmel, the actual better choice" Sirius finishes, glaring at James slightly. (Y/N) thought for a moment, before giving them their long awaited answer. Most likely going to end their dispute.

"Neither." (Y/N) answers the two "I think chocolate is better then both of those options." She remarks as James and Sirius groan. "That doesn't solve anything!" James huffs. "Then maybe next time choose an option that's actually good." (Y/N) rolls her eyes at her two childish friends as Remus sits besides me.

"What are you working on?" Remus questioned, looking at the unfinished potions homework in (Y/N)'s lap. "Its my homework. Decided I should probably try to get a good grade." (Y/N)'s mind wandered back to how angry her parents were with her grade first semester.

(Y/N) then noticed the book Remus held in his lap. "What book are you reading?" (Y/N) looked at Remus curiously "Oh! um.. Romeo and Juliet.." Remus answers sheepishly, still harboring some excitement from the questioning him about his reading. A hobby Remus has shown to take very seriously.

Remus showed me the cover of the book, that's when I noticed a hole in his maroon sweater. It wasn't too noticeable from far away, but as you got closer it was easier to see. "Oh, Remus you've got a hole in your sweater.." (Y/N) exclaims, taking Remus' arm to look at the hole in his sweater clearer. Remus must have snagged it on something.

At this comment, Remus' examines the sleeve of his sweater, finding the impurity on his sweater. "Awe, this is my favorite sweater!" Remus groans, obviously saddened at the event of his favorite sweater noy being so perfect anymore.

Suddenly (Y/N)'s expression brightened "I have a sewing kit in my room! I can fix it right up for you." (Y/N) smiles, standing up and pushing her homework to the side. Probably to never pic up, touch, or look at again. Taking Remus' hand, (Y/N) leads him up the stairs to the girls dormitory. Opening the door of my room, Remus looks around like he's just found a new land.

(Y/N) leaves Remus' side to go find her sewing kit. Digging around a few drawers (Y/N) finally found it. After looking around and finding the "Lost treasure", (Y/N) sits on her bed motioning for Remus to sit besides her. Opening her kit, she threads her needle, bringing up Remus' arm to sew up the hole. Taking another little piece of fabric, almost the same shade as the sweater is, (Y/N) stitches it over the hole of his sweater. She cuts the thread, finally finished.

(Y/N) looked up, seeing Remus staring at her intently. When he realized he had been noticed he quickly avoided eye contact, a blush covering his cheeks. "Thank you." 'No problem!" (Y/N) quickly replies. (Y/N) puts the items she used to stitch up Remus' sweater back in the bag containing her sewing equipment. "(Y/N), I need to tell you something." Remus pipes up, seeming very nervous. (Y/N) turns to him, about to put her sewing kit away in the drawer she found it and forget about it again until needed.

"Yes, Remus?" (Y/N) asked, curious to what her friend had to say. Remus seemed to freeze up looking at (Y/N) before adverting his gaze to somewhere else, anywhere he was able to avoid (Y/N)'s. "Never mind.." Remus murmers standing from (Y/N)'s bed and quickly leaving the room.

Although (Y/N) didn't say anything, she knew how Remus felt about her. She didn't say anything.

Simple Additions that Spice Up Recipes: Part 1

Grilled Cheese:

Mayonnaise (almost a given)

Bacon

Onion (powder works fine)

Tomato

Salt & Pepper (you should be adding this as a default tbh)

(Please for the love of god use actual cheese and not Kraft Singles. Please, I am begging you)

Rice Krispy Treats:

Brown sugar & salt

Extra marshmallows and/or chocolate chips added in later so they don't melt

I work inside I coffee shop. I see a lot of orders and a lot of the common stereotypes people have for coffee orders are less likely to be true than you might think. Let’s try and figure out what each Link would order then, shall we?

Time:

- Started off by just getting plain black coffee.

- He felt like that was expected of him because he got into coffee when he was already a bit older.

- At some point, he got a sip of Malon’s drink and LOVED IT.

- Now he loves the seasonal flavors.

- Pumpkin Spice? Sign him up.

- His baristas love him because he stepped in when some dude got uppity.

- (Sometimes they will undercharge him, but do not tell their boss.)

Twilight:

- Not a big Espresso dude.

- Used to get Hot Chocolates

- Had to stop because he turned into a wolf and, quite frankly, he was worried he would be allergic so he just ordered something else.

- Learned that Steamers were a thing and started getting those.

- It’s literally flavored warm milk. He can’t go wrong with it.

- He still gets a cup of whip cream every time, though.

- His baristas will see him in the parking lot, grab a small cup, and just write his name on it. Everyone who works there knows it’s for whip cream.

Wind:

- Really wants black coffee. Frankly, he would love having it.

- None of his adults let him have that, though.

- They kept telling him to pick something else.

- He started getting frappuccinos so he could still get caffeine.

- Carmel Ribbon Crunch or a Mocha Cookie Crumble became his go to choices.

- Eventually, he starts taking himself and just gets a small black coffee.

- His baristas joke around with him a lot, especially after he starts taking himself.

- They recognize him and will start making a freshly brewed container just for him.

Wild:

- He started with the Pumpkin Spice Latte before discovering other things.

- He has tried the entire menu.

- His favorite is probably, weirdly, cinnamon dolce or plain vanilla.

- Even still, he likes to spice it up when he does swing through.

- At least, until he got sick and his Zelda made him try the Honey Citrus Mint Tea, also called the Medicine Ball.

- That stuff WORKED.

- Now he gets that regularly, while grabbing a dragon drink or several shots of espresso in a cup for his Zelda.

- His baristas more often talk with Zelda than they do with him.

- (Bro spent so long examining the menu trying to figure out what he wanted that Zelda had to hold conversation to keep it from being awkward.)

- Newer baristas tend to get confused when he gets tea and she gets plain espresso, handing out the orders backwards.

- They’ll learn.

Warriors:

- Red eye, Black eye, and Green eye were his choice drinks for a while.

- Plain black coffee with one, two, or three shots of espresso respectively.

- At some point he learned that blonde espresso has more caffeine and started getting that.

- He was always in there at weird times in the night and his baristas (and friends, if we are being real) started getting worried.

- Straight up got cut off. Too much caffeine at midnight every night.

- Started getting teas and refreshers.

- Really likes the pineapple one.

- His baristas worry about him.

- He always came in at odd times ordering so much caffeine.

- He seems a lot calmer now than he did before, and they will take whatever victories they can get.

Sky:

- You know that “don’t talk to me until I have had my coffee” thing?

- That’s him.

- He just wants a regular hot latte.

- In fact, that’s all he says.

- “Medium hot latte.”

- He puts his payment on the table and goes and sits down.

- Once he has had a few sips, he can hold a conversation, but until then?

- Nah.

- Not happening.

- At some point, his baristas recognize him and just key everything in before he gets to the till.

- The grunt he lets out in thanks made one barista keel over in the walk in freezer laughing.

Legend:

- Whether or not he has a person with him will drastically change his coffee order.

- If he is alone, he will get a peppermint hot chocolate.

- No whipped cream.

- Extra chocolate and chocolate curls.

- Coconut milk.

- As Hylia intended.

- If he is with someone else, he gets a plain black coffee.

- Somehow, he thinks it’ll make him appear more masculine.

- (He hates it. Desperately wants the sweet drink he gets every other time.)

- His baristas recognized this pattern and started either sneaking him sugar packets or just making his peppermint hot chocolate and saying it was the black coffee.

- He almost cried.

- Almost.

Hyrule:

- This dude either loves plain espresso or loathes it, depending on the day.

- He likes the Vanilla Bean Frappuccino, which has no caffeine or coffee taste at all, on his hating espresso days.

- On other days, he just gets 5 shots of espresso over ice with vanilla cold foam on top.

- Other than that, he doesn’t change up his order at all.

- One time he drank the whole iced espresso in one gulp.

- His baristas were shocked by that.

- Not… judging… but definitely impressed.

- And a little bit confused.

- Wasn’t he sat in the corner, literally kicking his feet over what is basically a milk shake YESTERDAY?

- ???

- Okay, maybe more confused than they are letting on.

Four:

- He orders a lot of things, but not nearly as much as Wild did.

- If he has a different color shouting in his head about something, their usual order may take precedence over whatever else he wanted.

- On his own, he likes to get either a plain latte or a caramel apple spice.

- Literally warmed up apple juice and caramel syrup.

- It’s sweet. It’s warm. He likes it.

- There’s not much else to say about Four when he is not dealing with inner turmoil, so let’s get to how the baristas see him, yeah?

- They love him.

- He is so respectful all the time, asking about their lives, telling jokes, swapping stories.

- An absolute sweetheart.

- One barista almost jumped over the counter because someone made a short joke. (That’s how Four learned how protective the baristas were of him.)

- (They also undercharge him, again, do not snitch on them. They have their favorites.)

BONUS!

Red:

- Pink drink.

- He wants extra berries in it.

- He might add a cold foam to it, vanilla and mocha being his two preferred flavors of foam.

- He talked so excitedly about his favorite drink that one barista decided to try it.

- Unfortunately, it was the one who does not like sweet things.

- They coughed it out.

Violet:

- Earl Grey tea.

- That’s it.

- That’s the tweet.

- He just wants a hot black tea.

- He’ll settle for English breakfast if he needs to, but he likes Earl Grey the best.

- His baristas sigh in relief with his order. Half the time he shows up, it’s at the end of a rush, and his order is easy enough to complete.

- He’s very calm about everything, and that attitude seems to rub off on the other people in line.

Green:

- Chai tea latte.

- Hot or cold doesn’t matter too much to him.

- Sometimes he will add flavors to it, but his base remains with that chai tea.

- He also always seems to come in after a rush.

- He’s not too picky about it, which takes some of the stress off the baristas when they make the order.

- He loves to swap stories with the baristas while he is there.

Blue:

- Water.

- He just wants water.

- Cold, filtered water.

- Look, the water tastes good, okay?

- He’s gonna get the largest size water.

- He calls it the “big boy” for some reason.

- Actually, maybe he’ll get a second.

- The water tastes nice, after all.

- His baristas laugh a lot.

- Honestly, he is just there to joke around and relieve a bit of stress.

- It’s a great way to wind down the day, drinking water and telling jokes.

Shadow:

- Shadow doesn’t really order anything directly.

- He’s there, listening in, but he doesn’t talk.

- That’d probably scare somebody.

- So instead, he’ll add his order on to somebody else’s.

- His baristas were confused, initially, hearing a voice that was so close to the person in front of theirs yet wasn’t.

- One of the baristas caught on, however. Setting a cup of whipped cream down beside the drink.

- They watched out of the corner of their eye as it disappeared into the shadow of the man that had just ordered.

- From then on, they consistently did so. Never prying or even really mentioning it. They just set the cup of whipped cream down and moved on to another drink.

Fierce:

- It would be too easy to say a black coffee, so instead…

- Carmel macchiato.

- Iced.

- Extra caramel drizzle.

- Sometimes he will ask for a topping, but most of the time, that’s enough.

- His baristas were intimidated, to say the least.

- He just likes sweeter drinks, and frankly, he likes listening to people talk.

- If you listen really closely, sometimes you can here him whisper out a “that b****” while he hears a barista talk about their ex.

Day 24: Ice cream

Both of them loved going to Andre’s but given their past experiences visiting him together, they decided to just get ice cream from the grocery store and make creations at her apartment. “Ice cream, chocolate syrup, carmel sauce, sprinkles, cherries, whipped cream, and cookie chunks I think that’s everything!” Marinette says enthusiastically. To make this date special the two decided to make each other’s sundaes.

Marinette’s sundae for Chat having one scoop chocolate chip cookie dough, one cookies and cream, and one chocolate, topped with a little whipped cream, caramel sauce and rainbow sprinkles.

Chat’s sundae for Marinette having one scoop mint chocolate chip, one hazelnut and one scoop coffee ice cream, topped with cookie chunks, sliced strawberries he’d taken out of the fridge and a light drizzle of chocolate sauce.

They gave each other their ice creams and sat down to enjoy them while watching another movie.

Additional "eventually" cooking projects:

Replace white flour with oat flour in baking when possible (yummy!!! I learned how to make oat flour out of regular oats with my food processor and now I use exclusively oats and oat flour when making oatmeal baked goods like cookies and muffins and breakfast bars)

Figure out how to make rice flour (fantastic corn starch replacement, sadly expensive as hell)

How to grow basic pantry fresh items, like garlic, spring onions, and ginger. Maybe parsley rosemary and thyme (but no sage, see what I did there, also sage is gross), are bay leaves easily kitchen or backyard growable? Them too if so. And I guess invest in a mortar and pestle for grinds.

How to carmelize and candy ginger, for ginger-based sweets

So I can *buy* white chocolate that's dairy-free but do you think I could *make* it???

Anyone remember those big peanut butter cookies that you get in school lunch and at gas stations, hard on the outside but soft and almost gooey on the inside? They were like an inch thick and 4-5 inches across? I have a mighty need to figure out how to make them and possibly a sugar, snickerdoodle, and oatmeal variant.

Moonshine fudge. I buy it from a supplier but it's very expensive so I'm interested to learn how to make it myself. Obv non-chocolate varieties- they were making this cotton candy variety I bought all the time but they rotated that out and I want more.

Something I did for the discord server. And had a lot of fun doing too!

Adam: marshamallow. Soft boi. Sweet so very sweet 💕

Red: cinnamon bun, churros, or horchata. Very nice flavor and the spice makes people want more!

Roseytoesy: strawberry. Sweet and refreshing almost everyone likes strawberry’s!

Cyber: grahm cracker. Sweet but not overwhelmingly so. Good by themselves or with others. 

Griff: mango/pineapple salsa. Spicy and sweet. Ready to fight god to protect. 

Lexi: cream cheese and crackers. Sweet savory mix. 

Novorehere: rainbow sherbet. Chaotic good dessert. 

Lucky: aggressive spicy. Spicy taco chicken vibes. Can go with lots of stuff. 

Medium-sized-snack: milk chocolate everyone likes chocolate and they get eaten a lot as soon as they show themselves. 

Fish: creamy scrambled egg. Savory but light and versatile 

Lizard: medium steak. Tough on the outside but very soft inside. Savory but very heavy meat flavor. Too much iron from eating knives >:c

Medli: pina colata. Refreshing and sweet, tropical vibes!

Penlo: vanilla cake. Supportive sweetness. Goes with lots of different things!

Vore-toast: homemade Carmel. Can be very sweet or very salty depending. Very overpowering flavor when with others. 

Mystic: vanilla ice cream at party’s. Ready for anything and goes with just about everything! Melts easily ;3

Naess: Grybukai cookies! (Mushroom cookies!) very unique spice flavor to the soft cookies. Unique but fun and makes you smile every bite!

Nebby: Baklava. Layered sweetness and perfect mix of flavors. Super sweet, like overwhelmingly sweet! Also somewhat foreign but in a welcoming way!

Cj: jam puffs, Victorian era treat that’s sweet yet unique and simple to make. 

Cecil: raspberry brownies. The closest thing I can think of to an anxious treat. Treat with kindness.

Fuck it we ball. I'll tell you what jjba characters smell and taste like (/nsx, i mean Synesthesia ). 1/???

Okay so. Og anime Polnareff tastes like Snow and Metal (Silver Chariot tastes straight up like Metal). However OVA Polnareff tastes like Mozzarella or Alfredo sauce. Its not bad but its not great. Also both severely smell like hair spray get him out of here. 6/10

Jotaro smells like ocean + salt water. Sometimes a bit of smoke but like.. in a good way not in a gross way ( but then again i enjoy smokey smells ). Tastes like salt water taffy. 8/10

Dio is complicated because part 3 absolutely tastes like lime and orange / citruses. Smells like that too. But part 1 smells like vanilla and warm wood and tastes like rose. So. 6/10 for part 3, 4/10 for part 1.

Joseph Joestar.. um!!! This one is a little harder. Part 2 Joseph tastes. Sweaty tbh. But he smells like Vanilla also. Part 4 smells and tastes like those. Hard carmels. Part 3 doesn't really have a taste or smell to me? Kind of like a (good) musk smell perhaps. 5/10.

Hol Horse. Smells like grass/outdoors and tastes like chocolate chip cookies. I'm not sure why. But he does. 8/10.

Thats all I'll do for now bc it does take some concentrating for me
