On a brighter note I've taken to cleaning and reorganising the kitchen since I'm the one that mainly uses it now and it gives me serotonin to see my baking supply all neat and tidy.
Last week I tried my hand at making a no bake matcha cheesecake and a matcha bread with red bean paste yeee

McDonald's Singapore first introduced this locally inspired burger to us in 2017 and wowed me with the truly iconic dish in burger form. It came back briefly in the menu in 2019 and never appeared again until now. Of course I had to go buy the Nasi Lemak Burger Feast (S$11.50) which comes with Potato Wedges, Cocoa-Nut Pie and a small gassy drink. Upgraded the carbonated drink to a small ice green tea (+S$0.75).

For the 2023 version of the Nasi Lemak Burger, McDonald's tweaked the sambal sauce from sweet to savoury while also make changes to the chicken patty. Taking a bite, I did feel that the sauce was spicier than before, after all the sambal sauce is made from belachan, curry paste, chilli, shrimp, anchovies and other spices. The chicken patty is both crispy and juicy, boasting stronger flavours. Overall, the burger paired with fragrant saut茅ed onions, crisp cucumber slices and a fried egg was a sedap (Malay word for delicious) eat. While I enjoyed the soft and fluffy Potato Wedges over shoestring fries anytime, I did wish the wedges were dusted with some forms of spice mixture to elevate the flavours.

Now on to the Cocoa-nut Pie dessert. Breaking the pie into halves, all I see is the creamy coconut sauce with very little pieces of nata de coco inside, a far cry from the one I ate a few weeks ago. At least the pastry shell is still warm and crispy.

I tried to just make up a recipe for a sweet and salty dessert pizza and it wasn't good because of the cheese I used. I tossed it out in the yard and I've been watching crows eat it.

The McSpicy burger I have tried it quite a few times over the years. Frankly speaking, I found it a little too spicy for me though in recent time the heat seems to have been toned down or maybe I have grown more tolerant of the spices. When McDonald's Singapore released the new Sweet BBQ McSpicy and a new dessert, it is time to go try them out.

youtube
At the self-serve kiosk, I chose the Sweet BBQ McSpicy Feast (S$10.40) which came with the mentioned burger, a medium-sized fries and a Cocoa-nut Pie. Paid S$0.85 to upgrade the cola to a small ice milo. It is still the same old McSpicy that I know but with a sweet and smoky twist and slices of crispy chicken bacon! The BBQ creme sauce adds flavours and toned down the spiciness so I don鈥檛 have to keep reaching for the cup of ice milo. Overall, a notch better than the OG McSpicy but for a limited time only.

Now for the cocoa and coconut dessert, the warm Cocoa-nut Pie. The crispy cocoa shell hides the creamy coconut milk and nata de coco filling. It is not too sweet and the chewy pieces of coconut water jellies complements the crispy crust.

"innocent" housewife feeder concepts- holidays edition 鉂勶笍
making the most hearty, butter and cream-laden foods, it's cold out, you need food that'll stick to your ribs and keep you warm
packing a thermos full of rich creamy hot cocoa with your lunch every day
trying SOOO many recipes for various holiday gatherings and i make you my official taste-tester (but you end up having more than a taste, we can't let it go to waste!)
constant baking- endless batches of holiday cookies, bars, brownies, cakes, pies from scratch with all-butter crust.... i offer that you take some of the extras to share with your coworkers but you scarf half of them in the car, i've slowly worn down your willpower and you just can't resist
i take you shopping to get new winter clothes because you've way outgrown last year's, although i insist it's only because i love to see you in a nice new fuzzy sweater
movie marathons, cuddling under blankets on the couch with snacks and eggnog, and i can't keep my hands off your full, softening belly
once i've figured out your all-time favorite holiday treats i make sure there's a constant supply available
and of course, lots of TLC after you've overindulged at a party, peppermint tea, ginger, so many belly rubs, plus shortbread cookies and homemade bread to help "settle your stomach"....

Simon Riley X Reader: Domestic Headcanons: Baking
Warnings: Simon misses his Mum :c, fluffy
Tumblr media
Pt.2
Simon has very few fond memories of his family but he remembers how his Mum used to cook during the holidays, and would always involve him in the food prep to distract him from his Dad's foul mood.
After losing his family, cooking just isn't the same without his Mum, and even if he isn't on a mission he tries to avoid being in the kitchen because it just aches for him.
But then you come along, working on base under Laswell and Simon constantly hears you fiddling around in the kitchen. He avoids investigating like the plague for the first few weeks but eventually, his curiosity gets the better of him.
He finds you covered in flour in mid-October, making a pumpkin pie crust from scratch, and has to just stand there for a moment and watch in befuddlement as you swear at the bowl you just tipped over.
There's something bubbling on the stove, and you're too distracted to notice that your simmer pot is going to boil over. You've got a mix of orange and lemon slices with diced apple and cinnamon sticks. It's just like how his Mum used to make them.
The click of the stove dial has you jumping, having not noticed the shadowy figure of Ghost slipping into the kitchen.
"Heat's too high," he says, and you blink at him in confusion before understanding settles on your pretty face.
"Shoot! I...forgot to turn that down when I..." you gestured awkwardly to the bowl of flour and he tilts his masked chin downwards at you.
You give him an awkward smile before returning to the task of making your dough.
He doesn't leave immediately, just watches you struggle a bit with kneading the dough before he huffs and yanks his gloves off, pushing you to the side as he surprises you by properly kneading the dough, and laying it in the pie pan perfectly.
You watch him from the corner of your eye as you finish making the filling, and add it to the pie crust.
You can hardly believe that you're baking a pie with Lieutenant Ghost. You shrug it off however and pull two mugs from the cupboard, filling them both with the contents of your pot, however, when you turn around to offer him one, he's already gone.
The second time you're in the kitchen making apple turnovers for your co-worker's birthday, the window is open for you to enjoy an early November rainy day, and you're in your coziest pair of socks.
You almost don't recognize him, jumping at the sight of the tall blonde man who has materialized out of thin air to peel your apples. His eyes peek at you over the top of a black surgical mask, and you feel your heart stop, then start up again with a disjointed stutter as you take in the familiar chocolatey color.
He doesn't say anything, just peels the apples until the bag is empty. You reach for the last one and realize there's no Leuitenant to be seen.
The third time he joins you you're trying to perfect your gravy recipe. Most of the base's inhabitants have gone home for the holidays, but the few that have remained are planning a Thanksgiving potluck.
"You're still here." He actually makes you jump.
"Couldn't afford plane tickets for Christmas and Thanksgiving, and I'm not missing my Dad's pumpkin log and hot cocoa," you explain
He hums softly, leaning against the counter as he examines your cheese biscuits.
Your eyes widen slightly when you see him pull the surgical mask down just enough to take a large bite of the biscuit he nabbed off the tray.
You're greeted with the sight of a sharp jaw and full lips, and you quickly pull your eyes away, focusing on the gravy in your pot.
Something doesn't taste quite right, and you frown softly. Ghost leans over to take a deep whiff, bumping your shoulder in the process.
"You added salt?"
You offer him a deadpan expression.
"Scoot," he orders, pushing you aside and fishing a spoon out of the drawer. He nods to himself after a taste and proceeds to add a hefty helping of rosemary.
You try not to think about the fact that you've never seen his face before now as you try his concoction. It's not bad. "Where'd you learn how to cook, Ghost?"
He stares deeply at you for a few seconds, before he sets the spoon in the sink. "My Mum."
He leaves you after that, and you doubt you're going to see him at the potluck.
You don't see him in the kitchen again until December, and you're baking snickerdoodles to leave the boys with when you return to your family.
He's avoided the kitchen for a few weeks, and you're strangely relieved to see him lurking there.
"Wanted to give you this before you left."
He holds out a carefully wrapped package, and you accept it with a dumbfounded expression. He's out the door again before you've even thanked him.
A few days later you're sitting in the armchair of your parents' house, a pile of unwrapped presents at your feet as you carefully tear away the paper concealing the Leuitenant's gift. You're greeted with the sight of an old leather-bound book, one filled with handwritten recipes you realize upon closer inspection and an elegant Mrs. Riley engraved on the front page.
You have a feeling Ghost will be joining you in the kitchen more often. Maybe even Simon.
AN: Requests are always open!

Whenever you need me
Teen Severus Snape x Teen Reader
Reader comes from a bad home situation and goes to find Severus at Hogwarts during break.
(Just a quick one-shot. I was in need of come soft comfort)
Tumblr media
It was Christmas break and the school was nearly empty. Sev was the only Slytherin staying over this time and he was making use of the peace to catch up on his studying and research. He was in the empty Great Hall one afternoon, a stack of books on the table beside him as he read. The sound of the large doors opening jolted him from his concentration and he looked up to see who it was.
When he saw you, snow caked and windblown, dragging your trunk behind you, he jumped up and ran to you. "What are you doing here?" He asked, taking in your bedraggled appearance, "Are you alright." "They kicked me out" you stated flatly, biting the inside of your cheek to keep tears from rising into your already sore eyes. Sev said nothing, just nodded his head once in understanding. He knew the troubles you had at home and new not to push. You would talk about it if and when you were ready. Sev wrapped his arm around your shoulders and lead you to his place at the table. As he helped you off with your snow crusted cloak, he asked, "How did you even get here?" "I hitch hiked to London, then floo'd from the Leaky Cauldron to Hogsmeade." you explained. Sev held you close against his side as you sat on the bench next to him, rubbing your arms briskly to warm you. "You're half frozen. Have you eaten anything?" You shook your head, leaning against Sev for warmth. Sev knocked on the table twice and a house elf, Winnie, popped up next to them. "You call me, Mr Snape?" "Winnie, could you bring us a plate of food, please, and some hot cocoa?" Winnie looked at you with concern in her big eyes before smiling softly at you both, "Coming right up!" she said before disappearing.
A moment later, a tray of soup, sandwiches and hot cocoa for two appeared on the table in front of you. Sev slid a soup bowl closer to you, "Eat, it'll warm you and you'll feel better. What would you like to do after we eat? A bath, a nap?" You took a few spoons of the soup before reaching for your cocoa mug, "Cuddle in front of the fireplace?" you asked, softly, holding the mug in both hands to warm them. "Of course we can."
A few hours later, you were curled up together on a couch in your common room. You were fast asleep with your head on his chest. He kept his arms wrapped firmly around you. A few more months, he thought, then you'd both be finished with school. Then you could leave together, and he would always keep you safe.
========================================
Hope you enjoyed this. Title comes from "I'll be there" by the Jackson 5, which was what I was listening to as I wrote this <3
