It breaks my heart everytime that Jim never knew at the end. Like, he was so happy at the end of S1 to be part of the group, to be accepted and to finally know what was behind everything, and he was so happy to be able to train them during S4. And then, the series ends with the gang telling him that something is over, that they are putting their secret in the past, and he ackowledges it, but he never knows. He never gets any answer, never gets to be included in their group again. And it breaks my heart.

All the cool kids are doing it, so. I guess, year in review for me.

First off, I finished Game Kids! like, officially. Still so insane to me that my love letter to video games and Code: Lyoko is now complete. Wow. Their story is ended for now. I even finished my 2 year long comic project for them waow. (Although I did write a chapter I mused about having the series end on that explains what happened to Dante, if you were interested in seeing that. I didn't put it in the book in the end because each one starts and ends with the character's narration who is the main focus of that book.)

(also while I'm promo-ing my original stuff, go read my Moon Sickness series. I started it last year but wrote some good stuff for it this year too.)

Secondly, I participated in a big bang! Fun and scary stuff. Absolutely go look at everyone's work, it's all fantastic. I made an ukagaka for it! Fun times for sure.

Third, I wrote my explanation for Snufpollo! Hooray!! The RGB boys have been haunting me since last year, but @detective-piplup and I have done a good job just going buckwild over them this past year lmao. I have contributed best I can (with some highlights being unhinged Snufkin in Prosecutor Luke au, isat flavoured Snufkin in RPG au, and the saddest Snufkin fic I have written so far lmao) and I'm gonna write more next year, I'm sure XD

Speaking of, ao3 stats say I wrote 400k words this year! wow. didn't get around to updating FtSotM, unfortunately (an update is in the works it's just taking me a while to get through the culture fest augh), but I did update several other of my fics I am trying to finish (Crystal Scriptlocke and Laywright Werewolf being the key two). It was an insane start to the year because ISAT is still on my mind, Siffrin my buddy Siffrin....

Also shoutout to my Study on Prosecutors I wrote the first 3/4ths of in just two days. This year was for insane writing and also meta analysis for sure. XD

BRACKET REVEAL

Alright. At long last, I present to you the bracket...or should I say...*BRACKETS* for the Virtual Character Tournament!

Given the scale, the first round is going to be one bracket per week, 4 a day, with each lasting 24 hours. I know that this is still tight, but given how many contestants there are, along with the necessary inclusions of images and propaganda (oh and I guess also my job), it's what I can do to keep this semi-manageable. Moots said they wanna hear about WIPs and I feel like I gotta get this brainrot out anyways so HERE I GO

I've only got three projects I'm actively working on right now, all of which are Owl House fanfics, although I've got ideas here and there for other things (video games I might've made if I weren't so burnt out, ttrpg characters that might need their own goddamn settings and stories to themselves, a Code Lyoko fanfic, music (mostly loads of disconnected song lyrics), 3D avatars, etc).

The Owl House fanfics in question are three(-ish?) fold:

Theseus Who?, a mostly-canon-compliant 5+1 post-titanification headcanon compilation that DOESN'T just let Luz keep her titan form (mostly it's just a bunch of changes along the lines of when Hunter's eyes changed color after Flapjack saved him). - It's actually sort of a tie-in to another, bigger fic I'm writing that's gonna be point 2, so you can assume anything mentioned in this one will happen throughout the timeline of the next one as well. - I've currently already got the 5 written, so now I just need to buckle down and finish the +1, unless I decide to do another sweep of edits (I think the excessive parentheticals might be too excessive). - - I only started it like a week ago, and I've been waiting for motivation to strike again to let me finish it for like half that time.

Masha and the Very Normal Nocedas, a mostly-canon-compliant sorta-multimedia veesha longfic based on the dramatic irony of Masha slowly driving themself nuts trying to piece together what the Deal is with Luz, Vee, and the rest of the Nocedas. - by "sorta-multimedia" i mean its got plaintext segments describing the story, journal segments of Masha recounting events as they remember them and trying to organize their thoughts, chat segments when the characters interact over text, and possibly more if I feel the Need. - I've only outlined the three prologue chapters and the following intermission, only have snippets and vague ideas for scenes for the main bulk of the fic itself, and have only actually written two of the prologue chapters and the intermission. - - won't start posting it until I at least get the third prologue chapter done, so I've got a usable buffer. Hopefully that'll be sooner rather than later.

The Overthinker AU (or "The Artificer AU"? name is also very much a work in progress), a canon rewrite that I think I'll actually split into a bunch of shorter "episodes", so I can appropriately tag each one, rather than tagging one monolithic fic with Everything Under The Sun. The basic premise is "what if The Owl House, but there's more time", both in the meta sense of "not bound by the 20-minute TV episode format" and the diegetic sense of "the broad-strokes plot of the show will happen over a longer in-universe period of time" (though I'm a bit stuck on just how much more time I want to give em). - for the most part, I wanted to put more emphasis on Luz's magical development, and extrapolate a somewhat wider magic system out of what we see in the show, but I also want to go into more detail on how her actions affect those around her, even outside of all the friends she makes (stuff along the lines of the little things the crowd mentioned while protesting Eda's petrification at the end of season 1). - I'm almost (reluctantly) thinking of pulling a Grapes of Wrath with it, structure-wise, by having main plot/character development chapters alternate with shorter intermissions focused on magical exploration, worldbuilding, and so on. - this project is currently just the scribblings of a madwoman in my private discord server and three wildly unfinished fics in my google docs folder - - one of these fics is Something Like a Bible, which is essentially a condensed version of the entire broader project, boiled down to bare plot and occasional commentary. Like a series outline and a plot synopsis rolled into one, though perhaps not quite the series bible it claims to be. - - - honestly I REALLY aughtta work on this one some more, just so I can get most of the Big Ideas out of my head and share them with people. - - the other two fics are currently untitled snippets of scenes from the project, one a sentimental/instructional note from Eda to Luz, and the other sort of a ragefic twist on the ending of Thanks to Them. - this project is gonna include tons of ideas from and allusions to other fics which inspired it/me, such as The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled by IdeaHunter, All that's at Stake by The_Lampman, and Decorative by TheTokenAro, to name a few. - I could make a whole post about this project on its own (and in fact, I have before), talking about all the little changes I'd make, the developments I'd include, the more sweeping changes, the additional themes I'd toss in, and so on, but there are some I REALLY don't think fit well into the "rambling tumblr post" format (and/or just don't want to spoil yet), so I shall Abstain (for now :P).

Can I talk about something kinda off the wall for me?

Like I know I mostly talk about Seven Deadly Sins these days, I'm all about analyzing those Fairies. And every so often there's some Kingdom Hearts sprinkled in.

But another thing that I've always really liked is Code Lyoko.

And there's one thing about that show that just really pisses me off. And this is another reason it's a deviation from my usual sort of posts, I almost always talk in universe. I talk about characters and canon and rarely ever meta things like the creators and voice actors as people. This is not an in universe problem.

See, I'm really sensitive to voices. I can always catch when one character sounds like another from something else and I kinda pride myself on picking that up. That reason that's troublesome with Code Lyoko is because of two of the main cast share a VA.

The character Jeremy Belpois is voiced by Sharon Mann. And in the first season she does a sort of stereotypical voice for him, it's nerdy, he sounds a little congested, that sort of thing. And it's good. I think it's good, I like that voice for him, it suits him. But she changed it later. She wanted to shift away from the stereotype so she dropped the congested sound and his voice comes out a little higher pitched.

Why is this a big problem? It's not just cuz I liked the first one better. There's a real reason and that reason is

Aelita.

See Sharon Mann also voices Aelita, and when she changed Jeremy's voice it made the two sound way too similar. Which is very annoying because the two are romantic interests and frequently speak to each other. Sometimes half the freaking episode is them talking to each other! They need to sound different!

holy shit okay . okay . . . god . september . THE WHOLE THING GETTING CLOSE . VARGASTOBER WAS CHASING ME AND I DIDN'T KNOW FOR HOW LONG I'D BE ABLE TO RUN BEFORE IT GOT ME

i say this on every thing i post . " getting my brain to do stuff has been getting increasingly more difficult recently " but it's TRUE . i'm braindead , i swear .

okay . as i already said before , i didn't get a chance to do something about this whole thing last year . lots of things happening . so , for this year's list i had three options :

+ working with the same list ( discarded because i wanted other people to participate too

+ making a list using chapter's names as prompts , so people could draw a thing based on that chapter ( discarded because there are 34 chapters , and because some of them are too short / repetitive

+ or just working on a new list . ( decided to do this

so well i was constantly thinking " just work on a new list " and talking with my friends about it . the thing is i've been pretty depressed lately , and i blame that for my constant inability to THINK . i've been feeling useless for months now . i didn't think i'd be able to work on this by myself . last year i had some friends to help me ! but this time it was just me ( si alguno de ustedes está leyendo esto , no hard feelings guys ily

i was on a call with nyne , meta and brusk one day and i mentioned this whole thing . about what i wanted to do with it and stuff . meta said that if i needed help with prompts , she had ideas for them ! so , two or three days ago i decided to ask her . SHE WAS SUPER KIND ABOUT IT and gave me loooots of ideas to work with . different themes for prompts , even ! but as fried as my brain was i just couldn't think of an actual answer . she was saying all these super cool things and meanwhile i was like " hhhahahahah ( backing away slowly in fear ) " because everything sounded way too intimidating for me . that and i was watching code lyoko . here we are , going far , to save all that we love !! /lyr

okay thing about this is that . i've seen inktober's prompt lists before , and many of the prompts are pretty ambiguous , let's say . PRETTY OPEN TO INTERPRETATION . YOU NEED TO BE CREATIVE AND ABLE TO THINK IF YOU WANT TO GET NICE RESULTS . and i may be creative but . I CAN'T THINK . maybe my brain went on vacation . i've been waiting four months for it to come back . please come back , i miss you .

so , on saturday night , i decided to sit on my desk and FORCE MYSELF TO FINISH THE LIST . I JUST HAD TO ADD 14 MORE . CAN'T BE TOO HARD

I DIDN'T WANT TO WASTE ANY MORE TIME . IT WAS ALREADY TOO LATE . so , i decided to set some nice titles on canva and get some of my friends to choose their favorite .

these are the titles i put together ! made like , 5 people to vote . and at the end the first one received 2 ( ? ) votes and the fifth one also received 2 votes . i chose the first one ( even if my personal favorite was probably the second one ) . i just changed the text from lowercase to uppercase because it looks badass

in the end , i did make some prompts out of chapter's names . also , i got some of the list from 2023 because some if them are just too iconic . AND ALSO BECAUSE I DIDN'T GET TO WORK ON THE LIST LAST YEAR . at some point i just had 7 prompts left and i could just . use the character's names as prompts , like last year . BUT I JUST WANTED THIS LIST TO BE SSSSOOO SUPER NICE !!!!!!!!!!!!! and that felt kind of lame . even if it isn't . somehow I GOT THEM ALL DONE . i didn't know if i wanted to add buterfly to the list . . . it's a nice prompt but it's a reference to violation and the whole diaryverse au . and i wanted to keep the list mainly focused on the canon fic . I STILL ADDED IT . LET'S JUST SAY IT'S A TREAT FOR MYSELF . PLEASE .

ONCE THE LIST WAS DONE I LITERALLY RAN TO CANVA SO I COULD JUST FINISH THE THING . i searched for a nice font on the app but at the end i just searched the actual font they used for inktober's list and i used that . i don't have canva premium . . . so i had to get the text done in csp , then get it exported as png , and then getting it on canva . STRUGGLE

once everything was set and done i was thinking . . . what can i do to make this prettier . . .

last year i had this bit of yarn on the title ! i think it looks pretty nice . i remember that , when i offered to edit the pic i already had this idea in mind .

I ACTUALLY DON'T KNOW HOW MANY OF THESE I'LL BE ABLE TO DO . god , i need to do something on tuesday so i won't be home . i need to take care of the piece for that day TODAY , so i can post it on time . need to finish it and all . maybe when i'm not home i'll sit down and think of how many prompts i actually want to do and set ideas for them . i need to do that i REALLY nnnneed to . Pretty much what it says on the tin : an analysis of xanafication, as well as an attempt to separate different types of xanafication, how they occur, their pros and cons.

nemesisadraste: Emotions aren't rationnal. Even when they have to devirtualise themself but "killing" each other (unless is for saving someone from the virtual sea) they have to plan it out to fell good about it.

I know. I was more poking fun at the fact that Ulrich and Yumi get so caught up in things here they seem to forget the other will be fine haha. Or they seem to care so much it doesn’t matter that the other will be fine. There are some episodes they react with reason, like in Saint Valentine’s Day when Yumi slips through Ulrich’s grasp and they’re not sure if Jeremie’s going to devirtualize her before she hits the digital sea, or in Franz Hopper, when XANA bugs up the program so devirtualization = death and Ulrich gets hit and both Yumi and Odd cry out because they don’t know that Jeremie fixed the program in time. But in Guided Missiles and Kadic Bombshell there’s no ‘serious’ reason for it.

In the earlier episodes, Ulrich and Yumi don’t react at all to seeing the other non-lethally devirtualized. It’s near the end of season 2 into season 3 that Ulrich starts showing Yumi’s general devirtualization bothers him, like in The Key. He’s holding Yumi’s hand as they’re both hanging off a ledge, and when she’s devirtualized he actually reaches for her hand as it disappears (and her fingers seem to reach for him too). Then his hand curls into a tight fist.

In Straight to Heart, Yumi’s devirtualized, and Ulrich turns and shouts her name, and Odd has to scold him because Yumi’s virtual death is distracting Ulrich that much.

“Forget it! Concentrate on our monster friends!”

In William Returns, Yumi cries Ulrich’s name after he’s blown up by a mine (that sounds really violent written out jfc). I hate to keep referencing Ulrich, but he’s the one who shows it bothers him the most, like in Opening Act, William takes Yumi out and Ulrich growls, “If you’re trying to get a date with Yumi, I’m not so sure that’s the right way.” Or in Distant Memory, similar to The Key, Ulrich immediately notices Yumi’s been devirtualized, and he glances back, glaring.

Then in Guided Missiles and Kadic Bombshell you’ve got the shouted “No!” from Ulrich and Yumi respectively when they see William ‘kill’ the other.

Yumi’s shout is more dramatic imo because it ends up getting her killed right after Ulrich rip. (“Ulrich, no!” is also a really mean parallel to Fight to the Finish when William, on Earth, throws Ulrich across the room in what should be a lethal manner. Ulrich’s skull and spine should’ve cracked against the wall, and Yumi doesn’t just shout, she screams, shrieks, “Ulrich, NO!”)

But I’m pretty sure Ulrich gets killed here in the first place because he’s distracted by Yumi struggling in battle. 

Ulrich’s looking aside a bit, I think over William’s shoulder, and William takes advantage of it. He catches Ulrich off guard, and then Ulrich’s kind of forced to retreat back until he’s cornered against the wall. Too bad Odd wasn’t there this time to tell him to focus. 

Ulrich and Yumi don’t shout or express concern/emotion when their other friends are devirtualized unless it’s dire, and it’s interesting how early on in the series they don’t even express that concern for each other unless its dire. The emotion just kind of starts showing over time, which is a little funny cause you’d think they’d get used to watching each other virtually die as the story progresses but instead they seem to get more discontented with it. Probably because they’re falling in love. Not the childish crushing that’s going on for a good chunk of the story, but deeper, more adult love. Actual love.

And it shows in other ways besides devirtualization. For ex, the Ulrich of the earlier seasons would not get killed on Lyoko because he’s distracted by Yumi. He would not be so focused on getting to Yumi on Earth that he completely forgets his own life points (Crash Course). I don’t even know if the old Ulrich would admit he wants to be the one who helps Yumi in that situation. He certainly would not swallow his jealousy, would not let the extent of his distress for Yumi show around others, would not let emotional truths slip out on accident or otherwise (”What wouldn’t I do for you?”; “What a nightmare.”; “Better believe it!”).

The Yumi of the earlier seasons would not go out of her way to be physically affectionate with Ulrich. She wouldn't be brave enough to kiss his cheek, his forehead. She definitely would not pretty much admit to Ulrich’s face that she’s into him by saying he doesn’t have to do anything to get her attention, because he already has her attention--she already thinks about him all the time--and she definitely wouldn’t insinuate that she wants him to talk to her about it/make a move (”Next time, try talking to me instead of doing something so dumb.”). The old Yumi would sooner pick a big fight than admit any of that (Routine). She wouldn’t let her feelings show. She wouldn’t (finally) answer Ulrich’s soft gaze with one of her own, which is why this is one of my favorite parallels ever:

(I can’t even express to you how desperately I wanted Ulrich to touch Yumi’s face the second time, brush his hand against her cheek or something. If there was ever a moment for them to kiss (or almost kiss again), honestly, it’s here. Look at how soft he’s gripping her shoulders. Their faces are so close, expressions so tender. I could stare at these pictures forever. I’m dying.)

And I could get more into their relationship, totally break down when/how/why things change, but this post has already gotten away from me. So: Yes, emotions aren’t rational, and Ulrich and Yumi express more emotion toward the other’s devirtualization as time goes on, and this correlates with other emotional behaviors they start exhibiting later on, which matches with how I personally interpret the course of their falling in love throughout the series. But I can’t say it was done on purpose, that the writers had this all mapped out. Maybe. Probably not. And I’m not going to touch on devirtualization being likened to death here because I’ve already got a separate post started about that in my drafts. Yeehaw.

Yumi's decision was the right one IMO. I absolutely get that the gang felt desperate and under pressure at this point but William was such a loose cannon. Lack of boundaries on a personal and professional level was a fundamental problem in William's character and, even if he hadn't been possessed by XANA as early as he did, I can see that trait causing huge problems.

I can't remember if he knew about the danger of RTTPs at that point but there's clearly a sense of being above the unspoken rules of the gang re secrecy and efficiency.

(Going into speculative territory: I can absolutely imagine a few close calls on the Earth side of a XANA attack giving William cause for an overinflated sense of closeness. "Hey we just saved each other's lives, isn't that so romantic! What do you mean, you aren't in love with me yet?")

Makes you wonder if Yumi ever felt comfortable enough to talk to the gang about her reservations about William. Her male friends don't have the lived experience of being a woman subject to aggressive, unwanted male attention, and Aelita doesn't have much life experience at all, though she'd be the obvious one to speak with about it. I wonder what that conversation off-screen would have looked like.

William had his heart in the right place but if I'd been in Yumi's position, after that whole thing with the kiss, it would have taken a long time to restore trust in him afterwards.

So it’s kind of interesting rewatching Code: Lyoko as an older 20-something, at least in part because there’s always more to pick up on each time. Currently, I’m actually thinking about the episode, “The Secret,” and specifically each member’s reason for voting the way they did. I think when I was twelve, I understood that Yumi had some vague distrust by that point, but I think what also surprised me that episode was that Ulrich didn’t also vote “no” to letting William into the group. But rewatching the episode now, I can kind of understand everyone’s reasons for voting the way they do.

From Ulrich and Odd’s perspectives, they’ve just seen this guy go out of his way to deactivate a bomb that would have blown up the factory, even warning them to get out of the blast radius so they won’t be killed if he fails. And this isn’t the first time he’s helped the group either, assisting Odd against the materialized Krabe in “A Bad Turn” and helping Ulrich and Yumi fight off their Xanafied classmates in “Lyoko Minus One.” From Odd and Ulrich’s perspectives, they’ve largely seen his better side lately.

Jeremie and Aelita are a bit harder to pin down, and I think that’s because the perspective they’ve seen is perhaps a bit more nuanced. On one hand, he did sneak into the factory and demand to know what they were doing, but on the other, he also went out of his way to help them deactivate the bomb, and because sometimes they can also be a bit more pragmatic, they’re probably weighing the benefits of having another ally as well. They’ve got decently good reasons to vote either way, and in Aelita’s case, she seems to prefer to see the best in people, so she’d be willing to give that chance.

Yumi, on the other hand, has gotten to see a worse side of William in this episode. While the initial crash on the skateboard is understandable, having snuck out to see a movie, it’s also fairly apparent that his pressuring Yumi for a goodnight kiss makes her uncomfortable, and the next day, he gives her crap about dodging out of it, becoming somewhat belligerent about finding her secret when she tells him she doesn’t like the constant flirting and that he needs to f*ck off. On top of that, when he comes to the pool to get her for the Lyoko mission, he seems pretty dependent on the idea that there will be a Return to the Past, considering he loudly announces that there’s a Xana attack in front of her entire class. Given his behavior at the beginning of this episode, it’s already understandable she would vote no. I can definitely relate to her experience of wanting to just be friends with a guy, but then every conversation keeps turning into a flirtation. I can see why she might be concerned about that escalating, or at least be uncomfortable with the idea of never being able to get away from that even on a mission, where it could also effect her performance. But then add the loud announcement in front of the class on top of that, and it’s pretty clear why she thinks he’s a loose cannon. From her perspective, he’s demonstrated a recklessness with their secret, or at least an overreliance on the Return to the Past. On top of that, their confrontation with the Xanafied worker could arguably demonstrate a lack of strategy, or at least a lack of understanding of what he’s up against. It’s pretty clear why she’d vote no from any one of those reasons alone.

Imagine Ulrich keeping succulents because they're hardy and don't need much care but they have pretty flowers when they bloom. And they may be pointy, but people like them anyway. (Kind of like him)

this also got me thinking about headcanons for the other Lyoko warriors and what kind of plants they would be (haha)

so Odd would definitely be a sunflower, just huge and bright and cheerful. i could see Aelita as an aster maybe? they’re soft and pink and floofy and also symbolise love and patience (which she had to have a lot of sitting on Lyoko all the damn time) - they’ve also been historically considered ‘enchanted’ which fits with her elf persona and all-around intrigue!

i feel like Jeremie would be less of a flower and more something practical and low-key, like. maybe a spider plant? haha

maybe a black dhalia for Yumi; gothic and represents dignity and elegance which i think fits with her graceful movements on Lyoko and her general chill vibe

i’m kind of stumped on William but depending what aspect of his personality you wanna go with, mayyybe an amaryllis? it’s associated with the myth of a tragic love story (and this boi be angsty as anything so MAKES SENSE) and symbolises pride and determination!

My Deepest Wishes

You know, since I am finally getting back to posting regularly now that I am on spring break, I would like to share some of my deepest wishes, my first deepest wish is for Glitch Productions to announce a Meta Runner season 4, my second deepest wish is for Celeste Notley-Smith to reprise her role as Tari and not have Lottie Bourne voice Tari because we all know that would piss off the fan base even more ever since Tarigate and because Celeste Notley-Smith deserves so much respect, my third deepest wish is to voice a Meta Runner character and it could be a generic background character or it could be a character who is connected to a main character's backstory like I don't know, voicing Masa Shimamoto's little sister, but it's not like that's gonna happen since I don't think Glitch Productions would pick a 15 year girl who barely has the will to live to voice a character who is optimistic and actually has the will to live but that's just my opinion since I would gladly voice any character that Glitch Productions will assign me regardless of how much screen time they have since I have nothing to lose and would gladly voice a character who has the characterization of a stick of butter, but if Glitch Productions happens to contact me because they saw this post and they want me to voice Masa's little sister, Yuko, or whatever the hell they decide to call her, in Meta Runner season 4, I would gladly accept so I can hopefully make someone happy and hopefully restore my will to live in the process, and finally, my fourth deepest wish is for people to spread this around Tumblr and other social media websites so Glitch Productions can see and hopefully grant my wishes but it's not like they will ever see this since I barely get likes on my posts and only one person has ever reposted one of my posts and it was a belated happy birthday post for a 100 Kanojo character which I am not proud of, since Momiji is one of my least favorite characters and that's not going into the fact that I have only 3 followers and even though my posts can be seen, people just don't seem to care and I want people to care about what I post and not just like my Code Lyoko posts since I have grown out of my Code Lyoko face but do people care? NOPE!, they do NOT care or maybe my posts on stuff other then Code Lyoko are just bad in general and that's the reason people don't like and repost my posts because they KNOW that my posts are bad but I can at least hope that people actually like my content but I only think that in my dreams and in reality, people don't actually like my posts and I'm just deluding myself into thinking otherwise but if anyone out there happens to find this and decides to spread it around, that would absolutely make my day. Writing my way up to H.G. Wells + J.R.R. Tolkien-tier and beyond

I mean, I would like to get a few short stories / poems / animation shorts / short films / "software toys" going and by far. So may as well pitch a few of my current narrative draft ideas for initial practice...

I guess I will make it clear that I feel a powerful need to write down immersive / cohesive yet oxymoron Axis victory set of stories. Most likely with some cultural & technological nuances (not about making Nazism, Fascism and others legitimate but definitely challenging some assumptions we societally made from the world wars) & conflicted characters as far as emulating dystopia-writing with a humane / relatable touch.

These are not the only narratives I would like to convey, far from it. I got a couple more related to historical "mysteries", my constructed world(s?) slice-of-life-s and overall making optimistic meta-narratives. So I finally finished Season 1 of Code Lyoko! One down, 3 more to go I think! And...ho boy, X.A.N.A. continues to be terrifying! I forgot to mention the times they tried to ram a bus of kids into a power plant and had a movie anamatronic choke out Ulrich and Yumi in front of Sissi. Like, imagine if they couldn't return to the past. Imagine how traumatized Sissi and would've been after seeing Ulrich, her crush, and Yumi, a potential friend, nearly slowly die right in front of her.

Oh, yeah, and he just reverses gravity. Like, yeah, no big deal. X.A.N.A. can just reverse gravity. WHY DIDN'T THEY TRY THIS AGAIN?!

Actually, all of the Lyoko Warriors could probably use some therapy. These middle schoolers are fucked...

So here's Part 2 of 'Code Lyoko is a Horror Show'!

Killer Music, where X.A.N.A. basically puts people into comas with music. Free music that can be downloaded off the internet with full on Joker smiles. Odd nearly fucking dies, dudes! Holy hell!

Amnesia, X.A.N.A. basically hacks nanomachines to give Ulrich amnesia. Like...first of all, imagine if he managed to do this to ALL of the Lyoko Warriors. Instant win! And imagine if X.A.N.A. tried AGAIN and could better control them while they were asleep. Surgically fuck up their brains so they forget how to breathe.

The Robots, where X.A.N.A. just nearly causes the robot appocalypse like Skynet.

Rock Bottom?, X.A.N.A. can just...melt the ground, nearly drowning Jim in mud.

Routine, which is a REALLY good one. Cause not only does X.A.N.A just make consecutive attacks on the Lyoko Warriors, probably mentally draining them from having to constantly fight, return to the past, repeat days-you'd think this would be an entire episode, X.A.N.A. just wearing them down, but apparently hacked the virtualization program so when they DIE IN LYOKO THEY DIE FOR REAL!

Oh, but the icing on the cake for me was Ghost Channel; X.A.N.A. traps Odd, Ulrich, and Yumi in a fake Earth and basically has them at their mercy. It's actually one of my episodes cause Jermie got to save the day. It's a very different fight with X.A.N.A. and really shows the friendship the Lyoko Warriors have with each other, but also shows that X.A.N.A. is learning. His knowledge of humans isn't perfect, but he made a damn good attempt.

And naturally, the Season 1 finale happened and yup, there was the episode where Jim was temporarily part of the group and Aelita finally touched grass. And...

Okay, 1. THIS, this is why I love nerd romance in my fiction, cause fuck, Jeremie and Aelita are SO FUCKING CUTE together.

2. It's honestly kinda baffling how they never thought to keep Jim on the team permanently. Yeah, status quo is God and if Jim was in on it, he might squeal to someone or something.

But, like, when he goes off to fight X.A.N.A.'s virtualized monsters with a nail gun, it honestly just makes sense for him to be a part of the team full time. He can help them get away, he can hold down the fort and protect the school while the others go to Lyoko where they're of better use-remember, the sooner they can deactivate the tower, the sooner they stop X.A.N.A.'s plot and can stop people from dying, something going back in time doesn't fix.

And yeah, I know about William, and we'll get there when we get there, but, like, the Lyoko Warriors should've really considered adding more to their numbers sooner. But, yeah, there was probably meta reasons for why they didn't.

But tune in next time for when I scream about why Sissi, Nicholas, and Herb should've joined the Lyoko Warriors. :P
