Pirate Terms and Phrases

Batten Down The Hatches - tie everything down and put stuff away for a coming storm.
Brig - a prison on a ship.
Bring a Spring Upon 'er - turn the ship in a different direction
Broadside - the most vulnerable angle of a ship that runs the length of the boat.
Cutlass - a thick, heavy and rather short sword blade.
Dance with Jack Ketch - to hang; death at the hands of the law (Jack Ketch was a famed English executioner).
Davy Jones's Locker - a mythical place at the bottom of the ocean where drowned sailors are said to go.
Dead Men Tell No Tales - the reason given for leaving no survivors.
Flogging - severe beating of a person.
Gangplank - removable ramp between the pier and ship.
Give No Quarter - show no mercy.
Jack - flag flown at the front of the ship to show nationality.
Jolly Roger - black pirate flag with a white skull and crossbones.
Keelhaul - a punishment where someone is dragged under the ship. They are cut by the planks and barnacles on the bottom of the ship.
Landlubber - an inexperienced or clumsy person who doesn't have any sailing skills.
Letters of Marque - government-issued letters allowing privateers the right to piracy of another ship during wartime.
Man-O-War - a pirate ship that is decked out and prepared for battle.
Maroon - to leave someone stranded on a. deserted island with no supplies, typically a punishment for any crew members who disrespected the captain.
Mutiny - a situation in which the crew chooses a new captain, sometimes by forcibly removing the old one.
No Prey, No Pay - a common pirate law that meant crew members were not paid, but rather received a share of whatever loot was taken.
Old Salt - experienced pirate or sailor.
Pillage - to steal/rob a place using violence.
Powder Monkeys - men that performed the most dangerous work on the ship. They were treated harshly, rarely paid, and were expendable.
Privateer - government-appointed pirates.
Run A Shot Across the Bow - fire a warning shot at another boat's Captain.
Scurvy - a disease caused by Vitamin C Deficiency.
Sea Legs - when a sailor adjusts his balance from riding on a boat for a long time.
Strike Colors - lower a ship's flag to indicate surrender.
Weigh Anchor and Hoist the Mizzen - an order to the crew to pull up the anchor and get the ship sailing.

Welcome to the official 'The Decaying' webcomic Tumblr, thanks for stopping by and reading my silly zombie cat comic and if you decide to stick along then I give my heart to you.
TD takes place in a human-esque society of cats undergoing the zombie apocalypse, and follows current protagonists, Valentino and Maverick, as they grapple with grief, lies, love? And what it means for someone to be immune when the other isn't. The comic and world building are original and completely separate to any media like Warrior cats.
TD is intended for ages 14 and up. It features:
(illustrated) frequent blood, gore, animal death, and violence. Other possible triggering topics include: guilt, grief, and depression, abuse, LBGTQphobia, alcoholism, suicide, gun use, body horror, murder, smoking, stalking, underwater imagery, uncanny imagery, disordered eating, fatal illness, illness, hospital imagery, unethical experimentation. It's to be noted some of these are hardly mentioned while others are more apparent, but that pages are typically tagged with cws/tws.

A Garou Glossary
A
Anchorhead – A spirit gate between the Near and Deep Umbra. (See Membrane.)
Apocalypse – The prophesied age of destruction, the final battle against the Wyrm, and the end of Gaia. Many Garou believe this time is now.
Auspice – The phase of the moon under which a Garou is born, influencing personality and role in the pack: Ragabash (New Moon) – Trickster. Theurge (Crescent Moon) – Seer. Philodox (Half Moon) – Judge, Galliard (Gibbous Moon) – Moon Dancer, Ahroun (Full Moon) – Warrior.
B
Bane – Malevolent spirits serving the Wyrm, including Scrags, Kali, and Psychomachiae.
Bawn – The patrolled boundary surrounding a caern.
Blight – A location corrupted by the Wyrm, either in the physical world or the Umbra.
Breed – A Garou’s ancestry: Homid (human-born), Lupus (wolf-born), or Metis (born of two Garou).
C
Caern – A sacred site where Garou commune with spirits.
Celestine – The highest-ranking spirits, akin to deities. Examples include Luna (the Moon) and Helios (the Sun).
Chiminage – A debt or favor owed to spirits, often in exchange for gifts or aid.
Cliath – A young Garou of low rank.
Concolation – A grand moot where multiple tribes convene to discuss matters affecting the Garou Nation.
Concord, The – A pact ending the Impergium nearly 9,000 years ago, establishing laws still followed today.
Corruption – The destruction, decay, or debasement of life, particularly by the Wyrm’s influence.
Crinos – The war form of the Garou, a terrifying fusion of wolf and human.
D
Deep Umbra – The distant reaches of the Umbra beyond the Membrane, where reality becomes unstable.
Delirium – The madness and memory loss suffered by humans who witness a Garou in Crinos form.
Domain – A small sub-Realm within the Umbra, often connected to a greater Realm.
F
Fera – Other shapeshifters besides werewolves, most believed extinct.
Feral – Slang for a Lupus Garou.
Fomori (singular: Fomor) – Humans possessed by the Wyrm, mutated into abominable monsters.
G
Gaffling – A minor spirit, often a servant to a greater entity.
Gaia – The Earth, both physically and spiritually; the Mother Goddess of the Garou.
Garou – The werewolves’ name for themselves.
Gauntlet – The barrier between the physical world and the Umbra; strongest near technological sites, weakest at caerns.
Glabro – The near-human form of a Garou, slightly larger and more bestial.
H
Harano – A deep, soul-crushing melancholy, often caused by witnessing Gaia’s suffering.
Hispo – The near-wolf form of the Garou, resembling an enormous dire wolf.
Homid – A Garou of human ancestry; also refers to the human form of a Garou.
I
Impergium – A 3,000-year period in prehistory when Garou actively culled human populations.
Incarna – Powerful spirits beneath the Celestines in rank.
J
Jaggling – A spirit servant of an Incarna or Celestine.
K
Kenning – A mystical howl used for communication.
Kinfolk – Humans and wolves related to the Garou, immune to the Delirium but unable to shift.
Klaive – A sacred silver weapon, often a dagger or sword, imbued with spiritual power.
L
Litany – The ancient code of laws governing Garou society.
Lupus – A Garou of wolf ancestry; also refers to the Garou’s wolf form.
M
Membrane, The – The boundary between the Near and Deep Umbra, passable only through Anchorheads or the Dream Zone.
Metis – A sterile, often deformed Garou born from two werewolf parents, traditionally outcast.
Moon Bridge – A mystical portal linking two caerns, often appearing during moots.
Moot – A sacred gathering of a sept or tribe at a caern.
Mule – Slang for a Metis Garou.
N
Near Umbra – The spirit world adjacent to Earth.
P
Pack – A small group of Garou bound by a shared mission rather than blood or tribe.
Penumbra – The spirit world’s reflection of Earth, where many physical landmarks have spiritual counterparts.
Protectorate – A pack or sept’s claimed and patrolled territory.
R
Reaching – Entering the spirit world.
Realms – Stable planes of existence within the Tellurian, including Earth.
Ronin – A Garou who has been exiled or abandoned their kind, living as a “lone wolf.”
S
Sept – A community of Garou that protects and maintains a caern.
Stepping Sideways – Entering the Umbra; some elders consider this term flippant.
T
Tellurian – The entirety of existence.
Totem – A spirit representing a pack’s or tribe’s essence. Tribal totems are Incarna, while pack totems are lesser spirit avatars.
Triat, The – The three cosmic forces: Wyld – Chaos and creation. Weaver – Order and structure. Wyrm – Decay and corruption.
U
Umbra – The spirit world.
V
Veil, The – The supernatural illusion that prevents humanity from recognizing the existence of creatures like the Garou.
W
Ways, The - The culture and traditions of the Garou Nation.
Weaver, The – The cosmic force of order, technology, and rigid structure.
Wyld, The – The force of raw chaos and uncontrolled change.
Wyrm, The – The cosmic force of destruction and corruption; the Garou’s greatest enemy.
Wyrmhole – A spiritually corrupted location tainted by the Wyrm.

TIĀN MǓ / 天母 ([戟指灰毒,甲上反光如狼瞳。] / [Her gauntlet points to HUĪ DÚ, armor-scratches glint like wolf-eyes].) 取可汗长女。 Then take the Da Khagan's eldest. 草原狼种,正合燃薪。 a steppe-wolf's whelp, fit kindling.
HUĪ DÚ / 灰毒 ([颤声,气将断未断。] / [Her voice trembles, breath not yet broken].) 吾非薪。 I am not kindling.
DÀ LÁNG / 大狼 ([锁链暴起,棘刺入肉。] / [Chains rattle as manacles bite into flesh].) 这也配称'道'? You call this the Tao? 这不是道。 This is no Tao. 是屠宰场! It is the abattoir! ([唾血] / [Spits blood].) 玉皇必降天罚—— The Jade Empress will curse your—

TIĚ YĪNG / 铁英 ([并指为鹤喙,点向灰毒后腰。] / [Fingers coiled like a crane's beak, pressing to HUĪ DÚ's spine].) 道予炁,道夺炁。 The Tao gives qi. The Tao takes it. They wear cracked opera masks. They pound on the door with ceremonial staffs –– one with a noose, the other with a bronze yang inscribed with the inscription of a lustful ghost. DÀ LÁNG holds a black lantern dripping with putrid liquid. The air is filled with the smell of ash and moldy silk.]
TIĀN MǓ / 天母 ([自高窗窥下。] / [Peering down from an upper window].) 何人叩门?血煞星?本将不需神明,我即复仇! Who dares knock? Xuè Shà Xīng? I need no goddess. I am vengeance! ([铁链残腕铿然作响。] / [Rattles her stump-chain].)

HĒI DÚ / 黑都 ([扮黑无常] / [As HĒI WÚCHÁNG].) 谁碎珠门而听血之歌? Who cracked the pearl-gate and laughed as the blood sang?

GLOSSARY OF TERMS
Bái Sī [白丝]: Literally "White Silk." Youngest daughter to the late Empress.
Bái Wúcháng [白无常]: "White Impermanence." One of the two Heibai Wuchang, deities in Chinese folk religion responsible for escorting spirits of the dead to the underworld. Often depicted in white robes.
Bǎ Xī Lā [巴悉拉]: The Chinese transliteration for "Basilas" or a similar European name; in this play, an evil Nestorian Christian missionary.
Dà Láng [大狼]: Literally "Big Wolf." Head of the Five Poisons Sect.
Dāntián [丹田]: "Cinnabar field" or "Elixir field." Energy centers in the body, crucial in traditional Chinese medicine, martial arts, and meditation for the cultivation and storage of Qi. Often refers to a point in the lower abdomen.
Dàzhùi [大椎]: "Great Hammer." An acupressure point on the spine, considered a vital point.
Feng Shui [风水]: Literally "Wind-Water." A traditional Chinese practice of arranging spaces to achieve harmony with the natural world and harness positive energy flows (Qi).
Five Poisons Sect [五毒教]: A fictional martial arts sect common in wuxia, specializing in poisons and often portrayed as villainous. The "Five Poisons" traditionally refer to the centipede, snake, scorpion, toad, and spider.
Five-Eyed Toad [五眼蟾蜍]: A mythical toad, often associated with poisons, dark magic, or wealth in Chinese folklore. The "five eyes" imply heightened perception or a connection to the five elements.
Hēi Dú [黑毒]: Literally "Black Poison." One of Dà Láng's daughters.
Hēi Wúcháng [黑无常]: "Black Impermanence." One of the two Heibai Wuchang, deities in Chinese folk religion responsible for escorting spirits of the dead to the underworld. Often depicted in black robes.

Leviathan [利维坦]: A biblical sea monster, here used by Bǎ Xī Lā to invoke a sense of monstrous, chaotic power.
Lǐguān [礼官]: "Officials of Rites." Court officials responsible for ceremonies, protocol, and rituals.
Mandate of Heaven [天命]: An ancient Chinese political and religious doctrine used to justify the rule of the Emperor. Heaven grants the emperor the right to rule, but this mandate can be lost if the ruler becomes unjust or ineffective.
Mìngmén [命门]: "Gate of Life." A crucial acupressure point on the lower back, considered a vital center of Qi.
Nestorian [景教]: An early branch of Christianity that spread along the Silk Road and reached China (where it was known as Jǐngjiào, 景教).
Nine Tripods [九鼎]: Legendary bronze cauldrons said to have been cast by Yu the Great of the Xia dynasty, symbolizing the sovereignty and unity of ancient China. Possessing them signified legitimate rule.
Paper Effigies [纸马 / 人像]: Paper representations of objects (like horses, servants, money) burned as offerings to the dead in traditional Chinese funerary rites, believed to provide for the deceased in the afterlife.
Phoenix [凤]: A mythical bird in Chinese mythology, symbolizing virtue, grace, and often associated with the Empress or auspicious occasions.
Qi [炁]: "Vital energy," "life force," or "spiritual breath." A fundamental concept in Chinese philosophy, medicine, and martial arts, believed to flow through all living things. Its destruction can lead to death or a zombie-like state.
Ren Meridian [任脉]: The "Conception Vessel," one of the extraordinary meridians in traditional Chinese medicine, running along the front midline of the body.
Sàtǔn [萨吞]: Eldest daughter to the late Empress, her name might be a transliteration or a chosen powerful-sounding name.
Spirit Tablet [灵位]: A plaque inscribed with the name of a deceased person, used in ancestral worship to house the spirit of the ancestor.
Tao [道]: "The Way" or "The Path." A fundamental concept in Chinese philosophy, particularly Taoism, referring to the natural order of the universe, the underlying principle of existence.
Tiān Mǔ [天母]: Literally "Heavenly Mother" or "Sky Mother." An elderly female general, the protagonist.
Tiān Yòu [天佑]: Literally "Heaven's Blessing" or "Protected by Heaven." Tiān Mǔ's son.
Tiě Gū [铁姑]: Literally "Iron Aunt." Court official and Tiān Mǔ's sister.
Tiě Líng [铁翎], Tiě Lián [铁链], Tiě Xuè [铁血], Tiě Yīng [铁英]: Daughters of Tiān Mǔ. Their names often incorporate "Tiě" (Iron) and another character: Líng (Feather/Plume), Lián (Chain), Xuè (Blood), Yīng (Eagle/Hero).
Wuxing [五行]: The Five Elements or Five Phases (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water). A conceptual scheme in traditional Chinese thought used to explain a wide array of phenomena, from cosmic cycles to interactions within the human body.
Xuánnǚ [玄女]: The "Mysterious Woman" or "Dark Woman." A Chinese goddess of war, sex, and longevity, often credited with aiding historical figures in battle.
Xuè Shà Xīng [血煞星]: "Blood Fiend Star" or "Star of Baleful Blood." A malevolent deity or astrological influence associated with bloodshed and disaster.
Yahweh [耶和华]: The Hebrew name for God in the Old Testament, used by Bǎ Xī Lā.
Yellow Springs [黄泉]: The Chinese mythological underworld or realm of the dead.
Yùshǐ [御史]: Censor or Imperial Inspector. High-ranking officials in imperial China responsible for investigating and impeaching other officials, maintaining discipline and protocol.
Zhanmadao [斩马刀]: "Horse-Chopping Saber." A type of long, single-edged Chinese sword, often wielded with two hands, known for its power.

Toyfolk Glossary Masterpost
Collected in this masterpost is a glossary of terms concerning the worldbuilding of my series Misfits in Toyland.
Toyland - A phantom island of games and toys inhabited by the toyfolk. Also known as the Land of Toys, Island of Misfit Toys, the Doll Kingdom, and Merryland. Although autonomously ruled and governed by a monarch, it belongs to its creator, Krampus. It exists in a parallel plane of existence that dances in tandem with the mortal realm known as the Otherworld.
Toyfolk - People who’ve been transformed into living toys and sent to Toyland as punishment for their misdeeds by Krampus. This punishment is reserved only for adults. They don't possess any vital functions and thus have no need to eat, drink, or breathe.
Rule of Play - the magic that allows toyfolk to interact with toys as if they were real simply by playing pretend with them. For example, toyfolk can move their bodies simply by pretending that they can, despite not having muscles, a nervous system, or any of the necessary organs. Same goes to their ability to speak and sense the world around them. Externally, they can make any toy real for them by interacting with it as if it were real - such as pretending to eat toy food in order to mimic the sensation of eating. There are, of course, limitations to the Rule of Play. For example, it cannot be used to create life (playing with a normal doll or a toy animal won’t cause it to come to life) or cause death (playing dead won’t cause suicide). Toyfolk roleplaying with each other can even temporarily alter their perception.
Phantom Nervous System - named after Phantom Limb Pain, the Phantom Nervous System is what allows the toyfolk to move without muscles, see without eyes, hear without ears, taste without tongues, think without brains, and even feel (temperature, texture, pain, erogenous stimulation, etc.,), all without possessing any organs or nerves. Toyfolk are essentially undead - the mind and soul bound to a lifeless object and animated by magic.
Toy Fugue - Named after Dissociative Fugue (although the two should not be conflated), Toy Fugue is an altered mental state where Toyfolk lose their memories and sense of identity. Their minds are subsumed by their Toy Brain and form a new identity based around the type of toy they are. Toy Fugue is a mental escape triggered by traumatic events and emotionally distressing experiences. It’s often the end result of those who fail to find a way to cope with an existential crisis. Unlike dissociative fugue, Toy Fugue isn’t temporary, nor does it cause one to wander. While some have been able to snap out of it, others may be doomed to remain that way for the rest of their lives.
Toy Brain - also known as Play Brain, refers to the “programming” that all toyfolk have that gives them a collection of instinctive urges to play the part of whatever type of toy they are. Many struggle to find a balance between these urges and their own personalities, and it's a great source of discomfort for many of the toyfolk. Much like a Chinese Finger Trap, attempts to resist these urges will only cause them to intensify and worsen. If toyfolk fail to control their urges, their urges will ultimately end up controlling them and descend into Toy Fugue. These urges can range from specific (such as tea parties) to more broad (such as animal behaviours).
Magic - Magic works differently in the Mundane World than it does in the Otherworld. One can be forgiven in thinking magic doesnt exist in our world, but the truth is exists in its most fundamental and purest form - imagination. In its passive form, it manifests as thoughts, ideas, creativity, emotions, and problem-solving. In its most active form, it can manifest as psionics (also known as psychic powers and ESP). Long-term exposure to another plane will cause an entity to slowly acclimatize to the laws of that reality.
Wind-Up Keys - Wind-up keys have the ability to temporarily influence a wind-up toyfolk's personality and behaviour. Each key contains toy brain traits of the wind-up toy it came from. For example, a toy soldier wound up with a music box key would suddenly start to act more feminine and want to dance like a ballerina.
Voice Boxes - While most toyfolk are able to speak through the Rule of Play, those with voice boxes are bound to the rules of the voice box. Those with pull-strings, for example, cannot speak unless their pull-string is pulled. The voice box isn't just an analog for the larynx, but also functions as the speech center of the brain (particularily the Broca's Area). It contains their voice, vocabulary, speech patterns, accent, language, everything. Damage to this aparatus may cause something akin to aphasia, dysphasia, or dysarthria.
Playing Dress-Up - For dress-up dolls, costumes and outfits can influence their behaviour and personality. For example, a business suit could make them feel and act confident, a girly dress could make them feel and act girly, a maid uniform could make them feel and act like a maid, a collar could make them feel like a pet, so on and so forth. The affects are temporary, only lasting as long as they're wearing the outfit, but their original outfit they ever wore as a toyfolk gets imprinted into their toy brain, making it their default trait.
Currency - The official currency of Toyland is the Standard 52-card deck of French-suited playing cards. Playing cards were chosen over play money on account of the fact they couldn't decide on which nation's or board game's play money to use. They ended up turning to Quebecois history for inspiration. Playing-card money was a type of paper money used periodically in New France from 1685 to the British Conquest in 1763.

Ropecabulary:
My understanding and usage of some common words and phrases found in rope bondage:
*These are not the only definitions for these words within and without the world of shibari and other people may have different understandings and experiences of these words - the world is a vast and rich place!*

Rope bondage: a type of bondage which utilizes rope in wrapping, binding, restraining, suspending a person, often but not exclusively, as an act of bdsm
BDSM: an acronym standing for Bondage Dominance (or Discipline) Sadism (or Submission) Masochism
Shibari: to bind or tie 
Kinbaku: the act of binding a body tightly 
*Both shibari and kinbaku are colloquially used to describe rope bondage and often interchangeably - I use shibari as a synonym for 'rope tying' and kinbaku to describe the act of exchanging energy with another by way of binding them or being bound by them - as this is my understanding and experience of the application of these words* 
Tension: as a verb and a noun - the act of applying force to stretch (v)  the state of being stretched (n)
Examples: "If you tension your harness too much, your partner won't be comfortable"
"There was not enough tension in the harness and the rope slipped down her shoulder"
Friction: the resistance to motion that occurs when two objects touch - in rope bondage it is a series of movements that captures tension where two or more ropes meet. So what that looks like in rope bondage is varied and numerous as friction may occur any place where two rope paths interact - a munter hitch is a friction, a half hitch is a type of friction, a simple twist is a type of friction, an x friction is a friction, etc...

Bight: A loop of rope, as distinct from the rope's ends
When you fold your rope in half, the middle curve or loop created is called the "middle bight"
Rope ends/tails/working end: the ends of a length of rope, as distinct from its middle bight.
The ends of the rope describe the two ends of a length of rope which has been folded in half for shibari practice - these may be knotted at the end of finished in another manner
The physical ends of the rope also guide the ''working end'' of your rope which is another term for the length of rope continuing out from the bight or initial anchor point
Examples: "I secured my single column tie around their ankle and continued wrapping my working end up their leg"
"I like to make sure my rope ends are tucked away when I've finished building a harness." 
Column: the body part or thing you are tying around
Examples: an arm, a torso, a chair leg, a pillow, etc..
Single column tie: a secured cuff of rope encircling one column or encircling more than one column together as one column without any cross-axis cinch
Double column tie: a single column tie which has been divided or cinched by a cross-axis rope, a secured cuff of rope which encircles 2 or more columns distinctly from each other by way of a cinch rope or kunuki
Rope burn/mark/bite: an impact impression left on the skin after contact with rope, either for an extended period of time or by way of a shearing force of rope against flesh. Rope marks differ in degree of presence and severity and take many visual forms such as depressed areas of the skin, red marks, purplura, and bruising. These marks should resolve in reasonable time after the responsible ropes are removed.

Forward tension: a directional wrapping or tying movement in rope bondage which assembles each subsequent wrap by moving in the same direction as distinct from reversing tension at a friction point
Reverse tension: a directional wrapping or tying movement in rope bondage which assembles each subsequent wrap by reversing direction on a friction point
Bukashi/Rope Top/Rigger: one who gives or applies rope distinct from one who receives or is bound by rope aka the bunny
Ukete/Rope Bottom/Bunny: one who receives rope, one who is bound in rope in kinbaku distinct from the one who is tying or giving the rope aka the top

A Lick and a Promise - to do haphazardly.
Above Snakes - If you were “above snakes,” you were above ground; still alive.
Acknowledge the Corn - admit the truth, to confess a lie, or acknowledge an obvious personal shortcoming.
An Invite to a Dance - could mean shooting at a man’s feet to make him dance.
Bake - to overheat a horse by riding too fast, long, or hard.
Barkin’ at a Knot - Doing something useless; wasting your time, trying something impossible.
Barn sour - horse that loves his stall; speeds up the pace as he nears the barn on the journey home.
Bedroll - Blankets rolled and carried for sleeping.  Also called sugans, soogans, hot rolls, or dream sacks.
Bee in Your Bonnet -  An idea.
Boondocks, Boonies - far from civilization.
Broom-Tail -  a negative term for an ill-behaved or ugly horse, often a horse that looks or acts like a mustang.
Burn the Breeze - ride at full speed.
Chuckwagon - A wagon used to carry food on a cattle drive, which also serves as a mobile kitchen.
Clipped his Horns -  took him down a notch or two; referring to a fight or a braggart.
Cowboss -  In charge of the cattle operation on a ranch.  They choose where the cowboys will ride and hire and fire cowboys.  Answers to the general manager or ranch owner.
Curly wolf -  real tough guy, dangerous man.
Dilly-dally - loiter or vacillate.
Flannel mouth - overly smooth or fancy talker, especially politicians or salesmen. 
Night-Wrangler -  A cowboy that herds and cares for the saddle horses during the night. 
Pull in your horns -  back off, quit looking for trouble.
Rustler -  A horse or cattle thief.
That Dog Won’t Hunt - That idea or argument isn’t going to work. Or, the person saying it doesn’t believe what you’re saying.

Pronounciation Guide:
Since I keep getting yelled at [kindly, people are actually really nice about it] That I keep getting stuff wrong [Since I keep forgetting] I'm gonna type it all here.
DEMONS: Many demons go by titles instead of personal names, titles styled like XX-Jun are for high ranking demons and some titles are hereditory.
Courtesy Names: A courtesy name is given to an individual when they come of age, usually at the coming age of twenty for their first crowning ceremony, but it can also be presented when an elder or teacher deems the recipitent worthy. Generally a male only tradition. Women adopt a courtesy name after marriage. Courtesy names reserved for the upper class.
Diminitive Nicknames and name tags: Xiao- : A diminitive meaning "Little." always a prefix. [i.e Xiao Jiu, Xiao Yuan]
-ER : A word for 'son' or 'child' added to a name, it expresses affection similair to calling someone 'little' or 'sonny' always a suffix [I.e, Yuan-er, Jiu-er] A- : Friendly diminitive, always a prefix, usually for monosyllabic names, or one syllable out of the two-syllable name. [I.e, A-Yuan, A-Jiu, A-Lou] If the name is longer like Qui JianLOU that last part is the same nickname as Binghe [hence the truama for Shen Qingqiu as he heard that name]
Family: Di : Younger brother or younger male friend, can be used alone or as a honourific.
Didi : younger brother, or male friend. Casual
Xiao-Di : does not mean 'little brother' instead refers to ones lackey or subordinate, someone a leader took under their wing.
Ge : Familair way to refer to an older brother or older male friend, used by someone younger- or lower rank in status.
Gege: Same as Ge, has a cutsier feel than "Ge."
Jie : Older sister, or older female friend.
JieJie :Older sister, or older female friend.
JiuJiu : Uncle (maternal, biological)
Mei : younger sister, or younger female friend,
MeiMei : younger sister or an unrelated younger female friend, casual.
Shufu : Uncle (Paternal, biological) Formal address for one's fathers younger brother.
Shushu : An affectionate version of 'Shufu'
XiaoShu : Little uncle.
Cultivation And Martial Arts:
-Jun : a suffix meaning 'lord' Zhangmen : Leader of a cultivation/martial arts sect. Shizun : teacher/master gender nuetral, meaning "Honoured/venerable master." And is a more respectful name of address Shifu : teacher/master for ones master in ones own sect Shiniang : the wife of a Shifu/ Shizun [Luo Binghe to everyone around "Refer to me as Luo-Shiniang! yes! Good little ducklings!] Shixiong : Older Male disciple ShiJie : Older female disciple Shidi : Younger martial brother, for juniour male disciples Shimei : Younger Martial Sister, for junior female disciples Shishu : The younger martial sibling of ones marital master [Such as Shang Qinghua and Liu Qingge a disciple would refer to them as Shishu as they are lower rank than their Shizun.] Shibo : [As Yue Qingyuan is sect head and his title makes him the older martial sibling would make him Shibo. And so a disciple would refer to him as Shibo, or Yue-Shibo- idk about Zhangmen-Shibo if thats a thing? - Or if disciples of An ding would call Shen Qingqiu Shibo as he's second rank of the sect. Shizhi : [If Shen Yuan was a disciple Yue Qingyuan would call he Shen-Shizhi, or Luo-Shizhi, or just plain call him Shizhi]

Terms: Manhua: Danmei: XianXia : Qi : Gong : Shou : Chrysanthemum : A flower that is a symbol of health and vitiliaty. In sex scenes it was a metaphor for a mans backdoor entrance.
Chinese Calender: Year dates/era for a story> The Chinese calender uses Tian Gan Di Zhi [Heavenly stems, Earthly Branches] system to mark the year. [Meaning lost] There are ten heavenly stems, and twelve earthly branches [Zodiac adjacent] Each Stem and Branch is associated with either Ying | Yang and one of the elemental properties, wood, fire, earth, metal and water. The Stems are and branches are combined in cyclical patterns to create a calender where every unit of time is associated with certain attributes: Analysing such a calender for the stem, branch characters and their elemental associations was considered essential information in divination, fortune telling, wedding dates, and even buiness deals.
Confucianism:
Is a philosophy based on the teaching of confucius, it placed heavily importance on respect for ones elders and family, a concept broadly known as Xiao "Filial piety," the family structure is used in others that have similair behaviours, such as respect of a student to a teacher, or people of a country towards their ruler.
Cores/Golden Core: A good Cultivation base/Core/Foundation: Means learning from the right age, good training and keeping consistent and percevere. A bad Cultivation Base/foundation: Means you were half-assed it/ sabotaged with an improper manual, learned too late/early, can be prone to Qi deviations.
Meridians: Qi travels through the body, like a magical bloodstream, or map/rivers of the body. redirecting, manipulating, or halting qi circulation focus on targeting the meridians at speicific points of the body, known as acupoints. Technqiues that can block qi prevent a cutlivator from using qi until the block is lifted.
Qi Circulation: The metabolic cycle of qi in the body, where it flows from the dantian to the meridians and back. This cycle purifies and refines qi, and good circulation is essential to cultivation. In Xianxia, Qi can be transferred from one person to another through physical contact and can heal someone who is wounded if the donar is trained in the art Qi Deviation:
"To catch fire, and enter demonhood." occurs when ones cultivation becomes unstable. Common causes include: Unstable emotional state, or strong negative emotions, practicing cultivation methods incorrectly. Reckless use of forbidden or high-level arts. or succumbing to the influence, of demons and evil spirits. When qi deviation arises from mental or emotional causes, the person is often said to have succumbed to their inner demons or "Heart demons." Symptoms: Panic, paranoia, sensory halluciantion, and death. Fixes [not cures] : Forced relaxation, voluntary or forced by external party, massage, meditation, or qi transfer, from another individual.
The golden core forms and replaces the lower dantian, becoming an internal source of power for the cultivator. Cultivators who detonate their golden core, almost always die in the end. The destruction/removal of a core is permanent and cannot be recultivated as there is no longer a lower dantian o form it, its destruction stops an individual from ever performing to cultivate qi normally ever again.
Tradtionally cultivating a golden core is in nine stages, but is often simplified in fiction; Qi Condensation/ Qi Refining Foundation establishment Core foundation/Golden Core Nascent Soul. [A cultivation technique where a soul can project it's soul outside its body and travenl indipendently, this can allow them to survive the death of their physical body and advance to a higher state. Deity Transformations Great Ascension Heavenly tribulations
Dantian: Refers to three regions in the body, Navel, Chest, forehead. The lower is three finger widthds below and two finger widths behind the navel. This is where the golden core is formed and is where Qi metabolsim process begins and progresses upward.
Pilles and Elixers: Magic medicines that can heal wounds, improve cultivation, extend life, etc. These are usuallly delivered in pill form and created in speical kilns.
Spirit Stones: Small gems filled with Qi that can be exchanged between cultivations as a form of currency. If so desired the Qi can be axtracted for an extra energy boost.
Currency: In most dynasties was based on the exchange of Silver and Gold, weight was also used to measure the denoniminations of money. i.e: One Liang of Silver."
Daoism: Daoism is a philosophy, of Dao. Involves coming into harmony with the natural order of the universe, which makes someone a "true human." safe from external harm and who can affect the world without intentional action.
Disciples/sect:
Clan and sect members are known as disciples. Disciples live on Sect grounds and have a strict hierchy based on skill and seniority. They are divided into Core, inner and outer. With core being the highest, Higher ranked disciples get better logdgings and other resources. A sect is like a family, hence the name for martial sibling, and teachers are parents.
Incense time: A common way to tell time. One incense time: is roughly 30 minutes.
The Three Realms:
Split into three realms, the heavenly realm, the mortal realm, the Ghost realm. Heavenly realm: Heavens, heavenly officials. A Celestial court where gods reside and rule. Mortal Realm: Realm of humans. Ghost Realm: Refers to realm of the dead or in scum villain/demon realm.

Title Meaning and Themes of Iron Eclipse
The title of this alternate Metal Slug universe is a reference to how the light of hope and determination is often eclipsed by corruption, war, the scary advancements of technology, and internal struggles. The word "Iron" is a nod to the name of the classic run and gun game series, Metal Slug.
The themes and concepts explored include the impacts of war on both fighters and civilians, morality, political corruption, the struggles of a challenging life, the motivations behind conflict, the human experience, working towards realising one's full potential and purpose, the dangers of ambition, change, teamwork, and found family.
The Use of Tuatha Dé Danann Technology
The Amadeus Syndicate, the Rebel Army, the Regular Army, and the Ptolemaic Army are the sole factions utilising the technology of the Tuatha Dé Danann, albeit for divergent purposes. The Amadeus Syndicate employs it for scientific research, whereas the Rebel Army and Regular Army focus on developing protective gear, military vehicles, and advanced weaponry. The Ptolemaic Army is primarily interested in harnessing its supposed magical properties, but they also use it to advance the technological development of their paramilitary forces and cult.
Magic
In the Iron Eclipse universe, wizardry and dark magic are rare and formidable arts, feared and respected for the immense power and terrible risks they pose to those who dare to wield them. Effective magic requires the spoken chanting of spells, hand gestures, and deep concentration, which serve as the focal point for harnessing magical abilities.
Wizardry encompasses various disciplines, including:
Abjuration: It's a magical art that enables practitioners to conjure shields, deflecting physical attacks and bullets for a temporary period, while also healing their minor wounds.
Divination: It's a magical art that enables its practitioner to uncover specific insights and predict future events through diverse methods, including card reading, the rustling of leaves, and the migratory patterns of birds.
Shamanism: It's a magical art that enables practitioners to connect with the otherworld, communicating with ancestral spirits and healing even the most critically ill and injured individuals. This is achieved during a meditative trance, wherein all external sound is blocked out and one's perception of time appears to stand still.

Glamouring: It's a magical art that enables practitioners to craft vivid, psychological illusions that exploit others' deepest phobias. These illusions can induce a paralysing trance, rendering the victim immobile until they overcome their fears, or provoke a frantic flight response, causing them to flee in terror.
Necromancy: It's a magical art that enables practitioners to summon the spirits of the deceased, allowing these entities to reanimate their own corpses or possess the bodies of others. Once invoked, these spirits are bound to obey the practitioner's commands, carrying out their intended actions.
Nominative manipulation: This magical art, fueled by knowledge of true names, grants practitioners control over an individual's bloodstream, neural pathways, and spiritual essence, allowing manipulation for various purposes.
There are two magical disciplines that defy easy categorisation as either wizardry or dark magic: self-resurgence and gateway manifestation. Self-resurgence is only possible if a practitioner has previously cast a self-reviving spell or has obtained a second chance at life through a pact with a deity. The effectiveness of this discipline is limited, allowing for one, two or three self-resurrections, depending on the specifics of the spell or pact. It heals all fatal and non-fatal wounds and can reconstruct a body from spilled blood and/or organs or a pile of ash or bones. Gateway manifestation enables practitioners to temporarily bend fragile rifts in reality, creating portals to access familiar locations. These portals remain open for three minutes before closing. To avoid potentially destabilising the fabric of reality, practitioners can only create one or two portals at a time.
There exists a third type of magic known as antediluvian magic, once wielded by the Tuatha Dé Danann. However, the knowledge of how to harness this powerful magic has been lost to the passage of time. It's commonly believed that chanting spells are not necessary to fully harness this power as it can only be accessed through intense mental and emotional concentration. Antediluvian magic is considered far more perilous than wizardry and dark magic, and it's believed that only survivors of the Tuatha Dé Danann's extinction possess the ability to wield it.
Apotheosis
Humans have the potential to attain godhood, but this requires a combination of factors, including undergoing multiple rigorous experiments and harnessing magical sources of power. To increase their chances of achieving apotheosis, they must find a fractured soul remnant from the bodies of fallen deities. This remnant contains high levels of psionic energy, which can then be used to imbue themselves with great intellectual and physical capabilities. However, even after achieving this state, they aren’t fully divine and thus remain susceptible to very specific mortal limitations, such as deadly diseases and mental illness.
Digital Consciousness
All human newborns undergo a mandatory process of uploading their consciousness into a vast, virtual expanse of interconnected digital realms at the hospital where they were born or brought to. To maintain harmonic resonance between the physical and virtual aspects of the self, periodic updates are required every five years. These systematic augmentations guarantee an accurate and dynamic representation of the evolving individual, capturing the nuances of cognitive growth, emotional maturation, and experiential accumulation.
Downtime
In the downtime between missions, Marco and his team can unwind and recharge alongside their Regular Army coworkers. During this time, they can take vacations, visit family, and pursue personal hobbies. They also use this opportunity to strengthen their bonds with one another and work through personal struggles, although drama sometimes ensues.
After successfully completing a mission, Marco's team and their comrades often throw a big celebration. The festivities include a large feast, plenty of drinking, music, karaoke, a piñata filled with candy, and a range of fun activities from musical chairs to poker.
Codenames
To maintain anonymity, most members of the Regular Army and its special forces, Rebel Army, Amadeus Syndicate, and Ptolemaic Army utilise codenames, often replacing or supplementing their true names. This practice takes various forms, including legal name changes (e.g. Doctor Amadeus), adopting common nicknames (e.g. Fio, Pupipi, and Gimlet), creating personal aliases (e.g. Trevor and Eri), and shortening surnames (e.g. Walter, Ralf, and Clark).

Bioweapons refer to diseases and entities that have been biologically engineered to cause widespread destruction and harm.
Super soldiers are genetically modified humans and creatures created through bioengineering experiments for the sole purpose of warfare, programmed to follow commands from their superiors and engage in combat.
The term "New World" is used by various world-threatening powers to describe their envisioned era of dominance, marked by a malevolent and oppressive rule. However, its meaning is subjective as each faction has distinct goals, methods for achieving them, and perspectives on what this era will entail.

Wich can be roughly translated to "word" or "true” is a mexican expression derivated from the patriarchal system we have been subjugated to, Using the most common slang for the phallic form (chile) and paired with the article al (to the) it indicates a trueness and approvation to the topic at hand. While giving it the entonation necessary, the expression doesn't leave room for doubt nor regret.
