Lrb no, for real guys, you NEED to be aware of the manipulation tactic of "switching the point". A person made a statement that the book was not written by a man (because he IS a man... very "mature". :/ ), another person debunked the claim, and that person them shifted onto saying that book woukd not have been popular without his wife. "She wrote it" was switched into "she made it HEARD about" without any acknowledgement, so the debate would take a turn of the opponent attacking a fair point, not the initial atrocious bait one.
To play the devil's advocate a bit though, often such people are not conscious about using this manipulation, they use that intuitively because they are convinced in their head about their unfair judgment of [demographic] being fundamentally bad by design, and their own logic and points suffer because of it. Still, it doesn't change the fact that this shit is how they anger and frustrate their opponent and make themselves look like more reasonable one in the debate when they are NOT. Whether a better advice is to just not even try to argue with such people because you can't reason with irrational mind, but if you DO - watch for this shit and point it out when it occurs!

So are we just going to ignore how messed up the Pyro Archon's name is?
For those who don't know, her name is Murata. Which is scarily similar to the extremely racist Spanish term "Mulato/Mulata" used to refer to children of black people with white people aka mixed races (And by the way! Is most of Latin America's population)
Tumblr media
""Mulata": In the Spanish language, it referred to the mix between a donkey with a mare. The enourmous pejorative term is even bigger when you say "Exportation type Mulata", reiterating the black woman body as merchandise. The word refers to the idea of seduction"
And before anyone says "Stop being dramatic it's just because of Himeko Murata" I would like to ask you some questions:
1. Why did it have to be with Natlan?
2. Why would they use a JAPANESE name?
3. Why did they choose the archon?
Oh, and reminder that Natlan is inspired by Africa and Latin America, the exact countries where this word is used as a derogatory term.
Tumblr media
And not to mention her rumoured design?? What the fuck??? Did they not think it through? It's literally a Spanish colonizer.
Tumblr media
I heard people saying that she isn't the real archon but still. It's so unnecessary. Seriously? Murata? Did you really expect people to not notice after changing one letter?
As a Latina I'm so angry at this. They're basically pointing at our history and laughing.
First the lack of ANY character with curls now this? Fuck you hoyoverse.

This might be a bit controversial or something...
I also think police should all required to take a de-escalation course AND have at least a year worth of training.
...I'm just saying.... anyway, what do you think?

Have you ever read a book you 1000% hate with In the first few pages, but when you go to the rating everyone loves it? And then you realize you might be the problem?
Cause this was me with T.H. White's "Once and Future King" I can not express with words how much I was pissed off with in the first 3 pages. I couldn't make it past 5.
I almost cried, maybe I just don't get classic literature...
But idc what anyone says, this book sucks in my eyes.
This is a hill I will die fighting on, or end up bury the world on.

yes i’m salty and mad bc why don’t i see hate of Shinjuro as much as Sanemi ? because if we back track, wasnt he verbally abusive to Rengoku and Senjuro AND even physically abusive to Senjuro ? bad mouthing his dead son about how he didn’t do a good job and never turning his head to look at the great achievements he’s made and also drinking himself and turning violent towards a fucking 12/13 year old ? oh but it’s okay because he’s a dilf? because he’s hot ? but when SANEMI does it, regardless of blind rage, suddenly he’s gonna be like his father and die and he’s a jerk ? the double standards are INSANE because y’all pick and choose who to flutter your eyelashes at.
By no means am i defending Sanemi in his actions but y’all are for sure hypocrites because once you see Rengoku’s father doing it, for no apparent reason other than alcoholism and grief, it’s okay because y’all like dilfs. Get a grip you bumbling bafoons before you cherry pick what is and what isn’t a bad character.

***PLEASE HEAR ME OUT AND DONT HATE ME FOR THIS***
This may be controversial, but, besides the obvious reasons, I think one of the reasons there is Tashi erasure from Challengers is weirdly because she’s played by Zendaya.
In my mind, I know why this may be a cause but I don’t know how to explain why, if that makes sense.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who thinks this. 😭
I’m not saying this because I don’t like Zendaya or anything because I think she did a WONDERFUL job portraying Tashi in Challengers.

If this means I'll have no kids it's probably accurate. If it means I will have kids it's inaccurate. Because I personally can't stand small children for even a few hours so being in the presence of a child for years and have to teach them everything from the ground up? Nah. And also I'm also aroace. I don't think I'd be a good father anyway.

because blorbos are for the girlies and waifus are for smelly men... or something like that idk
i just dont really like how some people convinced themselves their way of enjoying characters is better than that of others
i'd even go as far as to say some of thrm are just as shallow in their treatment of the charas they claim to treat better but thats another story
Tumblr media
Hmmm... Very good take, anon. You nailed it. Poor Maria is basically a mascot of more shallow and toxic type of fans - they will think that "unlike us filthy misogynists" they AAAAACTUAAAAALY respect her... only to completely ignore her nuances as a complicated and tragic character and simplify her to angry, rude, badass woman that enjoys killing and being a bitch to all men but girlies are good. Like, okay, if all you can say about the character is how much she loves women and murder, and all you can draw for her is her smooching Adeline with a lesbian flag background - sorry, but this is ALSO pretty simple. This is ALSO one-dimensional, same as some gamer bros drooling about how much of a 'waifu' she is and not being able to draw anything of her besides horny fanart with her clothes being skin-tight so we all can see her boobies and oddly thin waist or something.
And yes, when you figure that the ONLY rebuttal they can use against the accusation of being simple AS WELL with their vision is 'well but [demographics] is not oppressed and horny gamers from reddit are worse just because they're cis het men lmaoooo 😭😭😭' - you also figure the problem. That they make it about ideology and some sort of activism, revealing that they do not care about "respecting the complexity of the character". They are very much okay with character being simplified and not explored past like 1 trait (2 if they are feeling REALLY generous)... but only as long as the way to simplify the character itself matches THEIR tastes. Reducing character's entire personality to masculinity and sexuality good!!! Reducing character's entire personality to being a potentially good gf/wife and sexual appeal bad!!!
Tumblr media
No, you are not "respecting the character". You are doing feminism activism in front of my salad the fandom, which is a place for ALL types of fans to go to, and ALL takes to be shared. The only requirement to be part of the fandom is to be a fan of the source material - in it's entirety or a part of it!
_________________
At the end of the day, there is nothing criminal in simplifying the characters. I am not a fan of one-dimensional takes myself - I like to deep dive and analyse the characters, I like seeing every single corner of their life and personality and purpose in overall lore! I like complexity and various aspects of the characters shown, not only one side of them! I can be bitter in my own autistic way, but it is about preference, there is no point to be made about who is "right" and who is "wrong" in how they treat fictional characters. They are not real and do exist for our entertainment and happiness FIRST of all - whatever makes the person happy. Just like how I get sorta bitter when people draw Malenia with huge honkers and thin build - but I will also be bitter if Micolash is prettyfied (I mean the ingame status quo, he could have looked prettier when he was healthier). But do I also think artists are allowed to invest their time and effort in what they personally enjoy, without hassling over "respecting canon"? Of course!
The sentiments can coexist. They SHOULD coexist, in fact. Not having an opinion and preference and equally liking everything is probably not a good sign... unless you are a fan of a character so rarely acknowledged that you do love anything at ALL about them, ahahahah. Someone's way of enjoying the character is not "better" only by the virtue of being more representative or canon-accurate - objectively. It comes down to preference. What I love about us Mico simps a lot, actually, is that those of us that prefer canon Micolash in all his ugly, hideous, sickly glory is that we do not make it out to be some loud political statement, accusing artists of "lookism" or "ableism" or literally... anything you could pull out of the fact that a dude that looks like a corpse got a makeover fsdhfsdh Get creative! Maria fans can get creative with seeing "misogyny" and "dyke-hating" in the places where it doesn't exist! So, let's also use our imagination.... NOT!!!
We just pout and say 'you are not REAL fan' as a joke. It is always. just. a joke. The more avid fans of iconic female Soulsborne characters should learn from us to own up for their subjective preferences instead of starting weird ideological fight over whatever lady they claimed THIS time.

Def a controversial take on Voltron but I don't like Alluras character in later seasons.
Not because of ship wars and everything else, Lance and Allura were ADORABLE together-
What I don't like about her character was how it felt like she was pretty much reduces to Lance's love interest and how she seemed to get younger over the span of the last few seasons.
Allura is such a strong, powerful female protagonist and I wish they elaborated more on that rather than just making her do reckless things to further the plot.
On the flip side I understand why she made the decisions she did such as letting the entity in and traveling into Honervas mind. They were all desperate and trying to win but weren't making any progress and it was time sensitive.
I really love Allura but more of the Fandom version of her, strong independent woman. It felt like they were trying to make her rely on a male character, but in the same thought it was nice seeing those relationships blooming between them.
The only problems I really have with Allura and Lance getting together is how little we actually see of their relationship and how quickly they got close after Lotor.
I do genuinely think they're so sweet together and it was such an important thing for Allura to give Lance Altean marks. I want to emphasize the fact that me being a klance shipper has NOTHING to do with the fact of not liking Alluras character- it was just the way the creaters decided to push her character in the end.
She showed so much improvement throughout the show and grew just like the rest of the characters and I really wish they did more with her than just a love interest and sacrifice.
Also it didn't really make sense to me on why she had to die if someone could help explain that please? I've been hyperfixated on this show for YEARS but I still can't really understand why she had to.
I would've loved to see more of her after the war and I think Allura out of ANYONE deserved to live.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk 👍
