I know this is annoying, and even us nerds still get confused by this, but there is Chronos, and there is Kronos. The former is the primordial personification of time, while the latter is the leader of the titans and father of the original six Olympians, whose domain is agriculture

For Adonis' backstory, I think it would've been more logical to have Apollo or maybe Asklepios as the bad guy (Apollo being the more likely). If you still want the healing of the sick to be the motivation for the curse, that makes sense as they both preside over healing and medicine (and plagues in Apollo’s case). Hubris is a big thing in Greek Mythology, so you could have Adonis and Alexandra taking credit for the healing or saying they're more skilled healers than the gods, or their skills must be of divine origin or something, causing one of these gods to be feel sligthed (cuz Greek gods do nothing better than take things personally)

Hades, meanwhile, probably wouldn't really care. By all accounts, he's one of the chillest gods (blame popular media for characterising him as a bad guy, mostly because of the association with death and the Underworld (blah blah blah Christians making a link with the Devil and fucking up the original characterisation)).

I'd see him more as true neutral (as I see most death-associated gods, not inherently malevolent). More of a "Why would I care if you prolong some people's lives? I'll have you all in the end anyway"-vibe.

However, knowing Brennan, he’ll probably have some plottwist about this up his dleeve

I think my general takeaway is that Brennan might not be the biggest Greek mythology nerd, but he very definitely did his research to make this season as fun and engaging as he could while utilising the worldbuilding that was already there and making it his own. I’m excited to see what they’ll get up to next!

hi!! thank you so much for the ask, i spent a long time debating on this but i would say: Ronan Paul Jackson

the name was unplanned. Jason first heard of Ronan in a world literature class at NRU, it was an author's name. being the little linguistics nerd he is he looked into it bc that's just a thing he does with names and words, found out it means little seal. ok cool, he filed it away.

now, they're blessed with this sweet baby boy, spitting image of percy (Jason's features are in there but all he sees is Percy, nothing new there) only he has percy's baby seal eyes dialed up to 1000. and it comes back to him: Ronan, it fits the little dude perfect. and while it does tie back to Irish mythology a bit it's not a legacy or namesake so the two are comfortable with it.

Since Percy picked Arabella's middle name, he let Jason pick out Ronan's. no hesitation, Jason throws out the name Paul. Jason and Paul bonded a LOT ok, they have a lot of overlapping interests and Paul definitely guided Jason on settling into mortal schooling. paul is probably the closest Jason got to a father figure. if that wasn't enough, seeing the way Paul has been there for Percy after all the things he went through with Gabe, and hearing Percy call him dad all these years, it warmed Jason's heart. He loved that Arabella got grandma's name, he wanted Ronan to get grandpa's. Percy almost cried when Jason told him the middle name, Paul did.

For greek class we had to make something creative around the odyssey or Iliad (from what we read in class) and my ass though it was smart to make SMAU and add twitter to it, i could just do one short or mid long one but no i made three, even my teachers and friends were like Cath you can do one and i was no too many ideas, the only hard part was searching old names for my made up characters (who i totally made no backstory for and what happened to them outside of the SMAU, i cried when i made one of my babies die in my head, cause there all besties and ughhh my babieeesss) cause there name had to fit their vibes, i wish i could share with the word butt its all in dutch���� (idk why I'm telling you this but i still can remember you're a greek mythology nerd)

A/N: Soooo this story takes place in a timeline, where Reader and Dui have twins. Yes, I named them Castor and Pollex again. Why? Cause I can. And because I am a huge Greek mythology nerd. Enjoy!!!!!😊😊💕💕💕💕

Prompt: The clouds gather (Day 22 January 2025)

"Don't run, you'll slip!" I laughed, as I watched Dui get dragged outside the house by our twin sons.

The boys had grown up to be perfect copies of their father, with his chestnut hair and his big doe eyes, which resembled melted chocolate, on a cozy Christmas morning.

Dui pulled Castor's hood over his head, shielding the little boy from the cold October air and pulled Pollex closer by his small hand.

"Dada!" Pollex cried out, pointing to a spot in the pavement with his free hand. "A puddle."

Dui chuckled. "Yes! It's a rain puddle!" He confirmed, following the flow of his our children's enthusiasm, helping them live their childhoods to the fullest, ensuring the two of them will have stories to tell once they grow older.

"Can we jump in it, like they did on the TV, dad?!" Castor, looked up at his dad, his hood falling again, when he raised his hand. His smile was bright and big, some teeth missing.

Dui pulled his hood up again and nodded. "Sure. But you will both hold my hands tightly, so you don't fall."

The twins nodded and tightened their grips on their father, excited to be doing this.

It was raining without any remorse for the past two days, the clouds offering the harvest life and helping the pavement cool from the August heat and the lingering scorching sun of September.

"On three." Dui said. "One... Two..." He waited, for the sake of suspense. "Three!"

The three of them jumped, the twins squealing excitedly. Dui stood still, once he landed in the water left behind from the downpour, but the kids kept jumping, their red and green rainboots slashing water all around them.

Dui laughed, along with Pollex and Castor, who gazed up with broad smiles, basking in the love and approval of their father.

After a while, the light dimmed, as the clouds began to gather overhead and a quiet rumble echoed across the evening sky. I approached my husband and my kids with an open umbrella, holding it over their heads. "It'll start raining soon. Shall we go inside?"

Pollux and Castor pouted at the thought of being unable to stay out here any longer, but I chuckled and tried another tactic. "I'll make us all hot chocolate."

The twins' eyes lit up immediately and began to run back towards the house.

Dui and I laughed as we watched them race to the front door, finding their ability to make everything a game extremely endearing.

I def hc MK in both canon and au being a big mythology nerd in general, not just for SWK.

He'd be the kid running around the library with a bunch of mythology books too mature for him to check out without an adult (Tang said no cus they'd both get in trouble with Pigsy). Has different phases of interest throughout his childhood - the parents probably can gauge how old MK is in some photos based on what mythology he was currently obsessed with.

SWK, pointing to a photo in an album: "Was MK seven or eight in this one?" Tang: "Just turned seven. See the little wooden sword on his belt?" Mac: "Ah. The King Arthur phase. He had a cake shaped like a rock that year." Pigsy: "Easiest to design really. He just wanted a fake sword coming out the top." Sandy: "Also the year he figured out how to turn himself into a squirrel cus of the disney movie." SWK: "He cried so much for that girl squirrel." MK, overhearing and getting emotional: "She didn't understand! She was in love but couldn't understand why Wart couldn't be with her! It was heartbreaking!"

I'm projecting because I was that kid who knew all the greek gods names, and by proxy all the planets and their moons.

MK would make obscure mythology jokes that no one gets except Mac (theatre and mythology nerd intertwine often), and a certain demon.

MK, very tired after eating a bunch of mooncakes: "Feeling like I ate the wrong kinda lotus rn." Everyone else in the room: ??? Red Son, suddenly starts laughing: "Oh because of the lotus-eaters! Sorry, it took me a moment. Very clever noodle-boy." MK: ( ♥ ͜ʖ ♥)

But yeah MK is 100% still a Monkey King nerd, but he also nerds about other mythological heroes. Has all the OSP mythos videos saved into his memory. Frequently blames his magic/divine problems on completely unrelated gods aka "Damn you Zeus!"

I won't make any promise of doing this on a schedule, but from time to time I want to run down everything I'm currently watching, in rough order of how invested I am.

Current Favorites

Cherry Magic (Thai) Sukiyanen Kedo Do Yaro ka (Although I Love You and You) Cooking Crush

Bundling these three together because I'm loving a lot of the same things: grownups! Direct communication! Being nice to the person you like and showing that you care about them! Cherry Magic delivered the most romantic sequence in the world to me this week with Karan observing and quietly meeting a bunch of Achi's trivial daily needs, and then Achi realizing this and immediately rushing to undo the hurt he'd carelessly caused. Cooking Crush is also doing a wonderful job of queuing up a bunch of potential problems and then having the lovers resolve them with honesty rather than letting them escalate. And SukiDoya looks to be setting up a beautiful slow burn between two men who have drastically different communication styles, but are drawn together and appreciate each other.

Dead Friend Forever

On the other end of the spectrum, we have the slasher drama with a bunch of students trapped in the woods watching their pasts catch up with them. So far this is delivering exactly what it promised: a solidly-executed suspense thriller with a hefty dose of gay drama. I'm enjoying it immensely.

I Love You, But...

The Sign

Look. It's a mess. As soon as I saw the second trailer and realized we were doing big mythology as well as crime drama I knew this show was biting off more than it could chew, and I knew I'd be seated for the duration. Billy and Babe are doing a fantastic job anchoring this wild hodgepodge of a drama, and I'm having a great time with it.

Last Twilight

This one was in the top bracket for me up until last week. As I've said before, my feelings about it are really going to hinge on how they move forward from the big episode-11 fight and breakup. We shall see.

Intern in my Heart

Not a BL, but with what looks to be a developing BL side plot. I'm enjoying this one, but three episodes in I'm not deeply invested enough to put it into the top bracket. Favorites are the female lead, played by Cris who I loved in Mama Gogo, and the gay bestie, played by Toptap. Hi Toptap! Missed you!

Doing Just Enough

First let me say that I will cheerfully drop shows that I'm really not feeling, so even this bottom bracket is all shows that I like. I just don't look forward to them in the same way I do the above shows, and they might be a few wrong moves away from getting dropped.

7 Days Before Valentine

Episode 9 was my favorite one since the beginning... I liked getting more hints of Q's backstory, and I thought the final rooftop scene was a good culmination of what the show's been building toward. It's been draggy at times, but I am interested to see where we'll go from here.

Playboyy

I'm a sexuality educator and sex nerd, so a show like this is going to have my eyes no matter how messy and chaotic it gets. I've been watching it mostly with that lens: none of the stories or characters are particularly compelling to me, but I'm enjoying seeing what it wants to say about sex each week.

Sahara Sensei to Toki-kun (Mr Sahara & Toki-kun)

I'm kinda sticking this one out for morbid curiosity, and because Toki is perfect and deserves the best. Sahara is a character I could really love in a different drama, but the romance here isn't working for me. I'm not even opposed to a (fictional!) teacher-student romance, and if this show was setting up their relationship as problematic but compelling I might be here for it. Instead it seems to be stalwartly ignoring that there might be anything weird or inappropriate, and it's both jarring and dull.

The four of them made their way up the stairs, mostly in silence aside from Minato chatting with Orpheus. “What did you mean by you forgetting how much being a persona fucks with your perception?” “Well, I was mortal, like you. In life, I was gifted this lyre by Apollo, and I could even get animals to dance to my melodies.” “Huh.” That's funny, I can do the same thing, except with my voice. “When I lost my wife, I was so heartbroken that even the gods cried. I still regret looking back before leaving the underworld, but…” Orpheus sighed, “regrets come and go, but what matters is moving on.” “What was your wife’s name?” “Eurydice. I remained loyal to my death to her, but by Apollo’s name, did being ripped apart by those damned Dionysian Maenads hurt like a bitch! I still feel phantom pains of my limbs being torn every now and then.” “Was that how you died?” “Yes, and all because I refused to join their bloody orgies. Drunken bastards.” “You sound like you hold a grudge against Dionysus.” “I don’t like most gods because of their faults. The only exceptions were Hades and Persephone because they bring the seasons, and they usually like to keep to themselves, and Apollo because he gave me my lyre.” “I mean, valid, considering that one god gave you something that you love, and the other two let you take your wife back.” “I didn’t mention that part, how did you know?” “Greek Mythology.” “I see. I am always down to try and convince people to read my favorites!

I’ve always been inspired by classic authors like Jane Austen and Alexandre Dumas. The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my yearly re-reads (rip to me, it’s a 50 hour audiobook) and I love trying to figure out where the plot is going. Some of my favorite lines from it are :

“Ghosts only appear to those who ought to see them.” “The difference between treason and patriotism is only a matter of dates.”

I’ve also always been in love with Maggie Steifvater’s writing. The best way I can explain the way she writes magic into her world is ethereal yet grounded. Her worlds feel so organic, and her style of writing makes me wanna shake something and scream. I have an entire shelf in my bookcase dedicated to her. My favorite book of hers is The Scorpio Races. How can you not fall in love with this gut-punch of an opening?

Other honorable mention to Ovid and Homer of Greek classics fame. Charles Martin’s translation of Metamorphoses is a big part of the reason I’m such a nerd about Greek mythology (shoutout to my awesome colloquium teacher, too). My dog Echo is named after the nymph Echo, my cat Skylla is named after the monster in the Odyssey (if I get another cat, it’s gonna be named Kharybdis, because I’m like that lol), and of course I can’t leave out my rottie mix Artemis. I’m gonna leave you with this excerpt of Martin’s Metamorphoses translation, because it’s a banger ;P

but let’s talk about them (without going into too many spoilers, so this will be about the thematics in their relationship). they are light and darkness. the ying and the yang. forever intertwined. one would not exist without the other, yet they cannot exist together. for madoka has too much love for every living thing and too little for herself. and homura has too much love for madoka it blinds her to everything and everyone else, and she struggles with deep self-hatred. madoka has forsaken her own existence for the world, and homura has forsaken the world she created for her. the show has a lot of religious imagery, and madoka is akin to a god; there’s a shot of homura, who grew up catholic, kneeling at the feet of a gigantic statue of madoka, praying, but her hands stain her clothes. because if madoka is god, then homura is lucifer - specifically, iblis, the muslim version of lucifer, who loved god so much he betrayed him, for he’d rather defy him than bow to his creation, humans. and homura would rather defy the sanctity of madoka’s wish, rather than obey its laws, for she will take madoka’s happiness in her hands, if she refuses to. in the movie, dolls representing homura’s inner machinations yell, “gott ist tot”, for homura’s god, madoka, dies in the movie, when homura remembers that madoka was human first, and godhood was something she reached to save everyone, against her best interest and happiness. their relationship is one of love, kindness, obsession, devotion, hope, faith, worship - they are the thesis and the antithesis, the beginning and the end, the alpha and omega, an unstoppable force and an immovable object. forever locked in a struggle, never fully embracing, for madoka will always sacrifice herself for the world, and homura will always doom the world and herself for madoka."
