Obsidian: A jet black stone that’s actually volcanic glass. Associated with banishing negativity and protection. Can be used in similar ways to smoky quartz. 

Moldavite: A green stone formed by impact from a meteorite. Associated with psychic awareness, cleansing auras, and spiritual awakening. This crystal is particularly trendy but packs a powerful wallop – I recommend starting with one of the more accessible quartz crystals above. 

WARNING:

Some crystals are considered water-safe, meaning they can be safely submerged in water without being damaged or adversely affected. These crystals typically have a hardness level that allows them to withstand exposure to water without deteriorating or dissolving. Examples of water-safe crystals include:

Quartz (including clear quartz, rose quartz, amethyst)

Citrine

Agate

Jasper

Aventurine

Tiger's Eye

Garnet

Moonstone

Fluorite

Carnelian (though NOT safe in salt water)

Obsidian (FYI: can break in EXTREME cold or hot water temperatures)

On the other hand, some crystals are not water-safe and can be damaged or adversely affected when submerged in water. These crystals may have properties that make them vulnerable to water, such as solubility, sensitivity to moisture, or the potential for rust or corrosion. Examples of crystals that are not water-safe include:

Selenite (due to its softness and water-soluble nature)

Halite (salt crystals)

Angelite

Calcite

Celestite

Lepidolite

Malachite

Pyrite (can rust or tarnish when exposed to water)

Turquoise

Kyanite (can splinter or fracture when exposed to water)

It's important to research the properties of each crystal before exposing them to water to ensure their safety and longevity. If you're unsure whether a particular crystal is water-safe, it's best to err on the side of caution and avoid submerging it in water. Instead, you can cleanse these crystals using dry methods such as smoke cleansing, sunlight, moonlight, or sound vibrations.

How to (Affordably) Use Selenite to Cleanse and Charge Other Crystals

Let's start this post off with a little definition of the two terms, charging and cleansing.

Cleansing is the removal of negative or unwanted energies from an object, in this case crystals. Charging is enhancing or activating the energy of crystals and/or adding intention to them. Some people believe this is b.s. and that crystals don't need to be charged, that is up to you to decide what you believe about this.

So how do you cleanse or charge your crystals without breaking the bank? Even though selenite is a very affordable crystal, Sometimes you'll see aesthetic social media posts of crystals charging in beautiful selenite bowls which is lovely but can be pricey. To get the same effect, simply take any piece of selenite you have, select the crystals you wish to work with. And place them in a bowl, on a plate, or wherever. Just make sure they are close to the selenite and that's it, you're done, no fancy crystal bowl needed. I have also heard some people say that a crystal only needs to be within three feet of an object to affect it, once again, that is for you to decide whether that works for you or not.

Note: I know there are other ways of cleansing and charging, this is not me saying any of those ways are wrong, this is just one way.

Cleansing crystals

There are several methods you can use to cleanse crystals:

Saltwater soak: Mix a solution of water and sea salt, and place your crystals in the mixture. Be sure to rinse your crystals thoroughly after the soak to remove any salt residue. This method is not recommended for porous or delicate crystals, as the saltwater may damage them.

Moonlight: Leave your crystals outside during a full moon to allow the lunar energy to cleanse them. This method is especially effective for crystals that are associated with the moon, such as selenite and moonstone.

Sound: You can use singing bowls, bells, or even music to cleanse your crystals. The vibrations from the sound waves can help to clear and purify the energy of the crystals.

Visualization: Hold your crystals in your hands, close your eyes, and visualize a bright white light surrounding the crystals. Imagine the light purifying and cleansing the crystals of any negative energy.

Earth: Bury your crystals in the earth for a day or two. This allows the natural energies of the earth to cleanse and recharge your crystals.

Remember to always handle your crystals with care, and be mindful of their specific properties and needs. Some crystals are delicate and may be damaged by certain cleansing methods.
