Current mood: Honestly, emotionally drained. It's been a week.

Current activity: Answering this questionnaire, listening to Speak Now (Taylor's Version), procrastinating cleaning my house.

Currently thinking about: That's a loaded question my friend...Let's see: My rabbit's food intake (he's had a VERY rough week), cleaning the house, my WIPs...

Current Obsession: In general, definitely Sandman. I had wanted to read this comic series for years (since meeting my husband in 2012), but it's a very heavy series. Essentially, I wasn't in the right headspace to dive into Sandman's many existential themes, until 2020. So I listened to the Audiobooks and feel deeply into the lore and the characters and the amazing world building. Then the Netflix show came out last year and Dreamling became a Thing.... Yeah sorry, I'm stuck here.

On a smaller note... I'm way too currently obsessed with how much Hades is eating and pooping. He was in GI Stasis on Tuesday and we almost lost him. It's been... it's been rough over here. He's ok. Death is a mug's game for him apparently. But now husband and I are just obsessively checking his food intake and how much he's pooping while he recovers.

Current favourite song: The same one it's been for like the last decade. Dreams by Fleetwood Mac.

Currently reading: Dreamling fics (specifically You create me against your lips by @delta-pavonis) (GUYS... THIS FIC!) (no but seriously... it's SO GOOD, and the art by @teejaystumbles makes me feral).

I also bought this beautiful Jane Austen anthology, so I'm making my way through it (currently reading the intro/biography).

Currently watching: I got Disney+ recently and it's got BOTH Boy Meets World and Criminal Minds so... randomly watching eps from both shows.

The next shows I'm planning on watching are Silo and I wanna watch Nimona.

Current favorite character: Hob Gadling from Sandman. He's just SUCH a guy. I already liked him a whole lot from the comics, before Ferdinand Kingsley rocked on up all "yes, but what if you loved him MORE?"

Not only do I love Hob's zest for life and hunger for everything, I love what he represents. He's the Human Everyman in a story about eldritch beings and supernatural magical beings. Hob's just there loving life. On the other hand, he is also the representation on what it means to be human. He is NOT a good man, but he keeps trying to be. Like humanity, he keeps trying to be better and to learn. Like humanity, he strives to grow and experience. He serves as a grounding presence for the otherwordly beings we meet in The Sandman series.

I dunno... I just think he's pretty neat.

Current WIPs: Oh God... Ok... so... I've got two in my Carry On list (Youth Without Youth and No One To Save) and three in my Sandman list (Hob Hanahaki, Reincarnation AU, and Grey's Anatomy AU). I also have a Renaissance/Queer coming out novel that I've been plotting out.

Currently thinking about: Oh you’ll wish you hadn’t asked. After spinning around all week attempting to fit the work of 3 full-time employees into one full-time week (a bunch of people quit & the slack fell to me), I received an unpleasant email from my boss complaining about the ways in which I did not somehow actually complete the tasks of all 3 jobs 🙄🙄 🙄 Next week I have to fly to Alabama to deal with some depressing aging parent issues, after which I will fly back late at night, drive 2 hours home, then hit 5 days in a row of 12-hr shifts. It’s all in my head on a loop.

Currently obsessed with: the above, plus tracking packages from all the online retail therapy I’ve unwisely indulged in this week. The color green. Salt & vinegar chips. My new Ooni pizza oven (PIZZA). And Snowbaz, always always.

Current favorite song: Been listening to Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right by Bob Dylan a lot lately, also Your Best American Girl by Mitski

Currently reading: *sobs* I used to read SO MUCH. I’ve been too tired to get into anything recently. I started Angels Before Man the other day but I’m not sure if I’m into it.

Currently watching: I just finished Glamorous. It was cute! And Otter Dynasty on hbo amuses me to no end. Every nature documentary should be narrated this way 😂

Current favorite character: Elliot Schafer from In Other Lands has my whole heart. He’s so abrasive and vulnerable and unshakable. Ahhh I love him so much.

Current WIPs: This really depends on how strictly you qualify “WIP”, lol. I am actively writing one, my crucible marriage fic. I have 3 other Snowbaz fics that I’m *thinking* about but haven’t written much for, and then there’s my COTTA fic, which I haven’t begun writing but for which I have some ideas I’m excited about! Simon will be researching his dragon ancestry by visiting a jaculus on the outskirts of Pompeii in 79 A.D. I haven’t entirely worked out how the eruption of Vesuvius will be set about, but it will be magickally precipitated and Simon will then struggle to save Baz and his family.

You know? People say a lot "I was born the wrong generation" for a lot of things, and there's one thing in particular I think about that makes me think the jobs we have today are just unfulfilling.

As hard as work was back in the 40-50-60s (my grand parent's years) I feel like most of it would be more fulfilling than most jobs these days.

They HAD to cut down wood because people NEEDED it for housing, people had farms because people NEEDED those farms to survive, villages were starting to be built so EVERYONE in the village had an important purpose because it was such small communities, everything everyone did affected everything around them, and if you did something good it would show, it would be appreciated, you know that by having your farm selling the food in the nearby village it would feed the village, people who built houses in that village could see people living in them and being able to make their own positive impact on their community

Today? Sure, working at a coffee shop is cool and all, but it doesn't feed a village, even less a city. We are more and more disconnected from the impact our work does, what's fulfilling about stacking store shelves so that entitled customers don't get mad? What's fulfilling about being a secretary doing basically minimum wage for a company that makes billions every year?

"We need to appreciate the little things" That's true, and also the whole "If I'm able to make just one person smile, I'll be happy" Of course, I am not denying that and especially for how much I actually enjoy customer service and talking with people and providing them with a good experience.

However, today? We see how the world is getting worse and worse from big companies, the actions/ lack of actions from the government. And us? We can't do a single thing on our own. We are powerless, we can try to make our OWN situation better, and I encourage anyone to go on strike to get better working condition, always, but we can't exactly strike in a meaningful matter to be able to get billionaires to agree to stop fucking up the planet so much.

We still need to eat, we still need jobs and we have people we need to provide to, we are powerless towards the environment and so many other things.

With the education we have that makes basically slave workers ready to be exploited, and some places (I won't name the country) but they keep dumbing down education and banning books, basing the studies on religion rather than facts which all leads to people not being smart enough to vote for the people that wants to actually help.

On top of that, even those who have a decent education have less and less opportunities to go to higher studies with the current salaries and prices around.

Imagine if everyone had access to the opportunity to learn new skills, get more education, be able to do the work they want instead of a minimum wage job that doesn't pay the bills, the world would be such a better place, there would be more people on the front discovering new things, achieving new inventions and breakthroughs, you know; a fulfilling job.

All and all, I got a bit sidetracked but now with all of us doing exploited jobs that really aren't fulfilling, no wonder most of us are depressed or using drugs or alcohol to cope, life is getting worse and we are powerless

The Trump administration has issued an executive order aimed at dismantling the Institute of Museum and Library Services - the ONLY federal agency for America's libraries.

Using just 0.003% of the federal budget, the IMLS funds services at libraries across the country; services like Braille and talking books for the visually impaired, high-speed internet access, and early literacy programs.

Libraries are known for doing more with less, but even we can't work with nothing.

Tell strangers, for that matter. People in line at the check out, your elderly neighbor, the mail carrier - no one is safe from your library advocacy. Libraries are for everyone and we need all the help we can get.

...Wait, why do we need this IMLS thing again?

The ALA says it best in their official statement and lists some ways libraries across the country use IMLS funding:

But if you want a really specific answer, here at LCPL we use IMLS funding to provide our amazing interlibrary loan service. If we can't purchase an item you request (out of print books, for example) this service lets us borrow it from another library and check it out to you.

IMLS also funds the statewide Indiana Digital Library and Evergreen Indiana, which gives patrons of smaller Indiana libraries access to collections just as large and varied as the big libraries' collections.

As usual, cutting this funding will hurt rural communities the most - but every library user will feel it one way or another. Let's let Congress know that's unacceptable.

Rewatching Pretty Little Liars, about to finish season 2!

Sol de Janeiro 76. I've always seen the brand but never tried it and now I'm hooked on this scent!

Doing gel on my nails at home. I'm using the new cream gel from Gelish, very fun and can easily kill so much time doing them. But I can already see it damaging my nails so I think I'm going back to Dashing Diva nail strips.

New music from artists that aren't Taylor Swift, Noah Kahan or MCR...

Songs include- Agony by SM6 (great band and this song is so fucking perfect for me!) also their song Hands. Starting to get into Chappell Roan and the ones I have on repeat are HOT TO GO!, Pink Pony Club (obvi) and Casual. Then lastly Sabrina Carpenter's Espresso and Please Please Please.

Driving around alone listening to said music.

Just tried and now switching from Redkin to Ion. My hair is falling out so much (pretty sure it's one of the med side effects), it's so frizzy and hay-like feeling. So I was trying Redkins Acidic Bonding line, it worked a couple years ago but having no luck this time. Anyways I tried a sample condition from Ion's Repair line and I was hooked and have now switched over. And they're like 33% the cost of Redkens too!

And that's pretty much my life. Watching Pretty Little Liars, doing my nails, and listening to music. And sleeping too much to ignore the fact that things aren't so great and are heading down a worse path.
