They can talk, in death. Evan has questions. He wants to understand; he needs to know the whole story in order to process and heal. He needs to know why Mike was the way that he was to understand that it wasn't Evan's fault; and he wants to know what happened after he died, what it was like.

Michael wants to answer him. He wants to help; he's obligated to help, after everything he's done to Evan. He prepares his story, opens his mouth to speak...

And nothing comes out.

In which Michael threw himself to the wayside when he decided to save them, so much so that he isn't ready to talk about his own trauma after he dies.

let's talk about airlines and inaccessibility //kind of a rant lol

my first solo hotel say. i wish it was under better circumstances but it is what it is.

i'm disappointed but not surprised.

delta left me sitting waiting for a wheelchair assistant for nearly an hour between my flights. of course my next gate was on the other side of the atlanta airport so by the time we got there the gate was closed. three 15 dollar meal vouchers and a hotel stay is supposed to make up for having to book me on the next flight... which of course had to be over 24 hours later. a solo hotel stay sounds nice and all, but it's just not safe for me. i am dependent on my carers. miraculously i had the spoons to handle myself, bathe and eat, and make it to the airport the next morning without assistance, but if i was in a flare or having a low spoon low functioning day, I don't know what I'd have done.

i booked these flights way in advance and i requested wheelchair assistance at the time of booking. why do airlines still fail to schedule an adamant amount of assistants even when they know the need is there? i heard one assistant say he was working over his lunch break because so many people were going to miss flights.

what's sad is that waiting alone for an for hours or missing flights is nothing compared to the atrocities that happen to disabled passengers. the last time i took a flight, i had a meltdown and minor injuries due to over exertion, but i was still grateful that things weren't worse because flying while disabled can be terrifying. airlines being neglectful and showing blantant disregard for our wellbeing has cost people thousands of dollars in damaged medical equipment and injuries. people have died due to mishandling. being dependent on a corporate entity that doesn't care about your safety is scary. when employees are overworked and underpaid, understaffed and uninformed, people's lives are on the line. big business when left unchecked will always prioritize profits over people.

Shh. I forgot I was on the Diamondzai account oops. Anyways. Hi. It’s mod airplane. I promise, I’m still here, just.. there’s a lot going on, in my life, and I’m actually like. Doing well for once? I never wanted to talk about it, but Diamondzai was, really, how I coped, for a little. I will, of course, continue the blog, and welcome asks, but I might be a little different, a little more hopeful, and I hope that that’s okay.

“Airports delays are common, but especially during winter when jets need to be dowsed with thousands of gallons of deicing fluids to prevent ice formation and maintain the plane’s aerodynamics to avoid fatal accidents like the tragic Air Florida flight that fell into the Potomac River in Washington, DC directly after lift-off in a 1982 snow storm.

But as soon as any de-iced airplane takes off, most of the liquid slides from the surface of the aircraft and ends up polluting streams, lakes, and oceans.

Now, endeavoring to make a more efficient product immune to ice for such demanding industries, a team at the University of Illinois Chicago have developed a longer-lasting and eco-friendly alternative to conventional deicers.

“Glycols dissolve very fast and get washed away before the plane takes off, and it’s a serious problem that costs hundreds of millions of dollars—most of which literally ends up in the drain,” said Sushant Anand, assistant professor of mechanical engineering...

“A key point was to use materials which are bio-friendly. For example the anti-freezing gels we prepared are made of dimethyl sulfoxide (a by-product of plant industry and having miraculous medicinal properties) and gelatin (the stuff you use in making deserts and custards): so all very safe items.”

The gels are the best performing ones and have a significant edge amongst the developed formulations. They are easy to fabricate, require only two components, they can be easily cured/sprayed/painted/coated on any surface, regardless of shape. The best part is they are optically transparent even under icing/frosting conditions.

Their research published in Advanced Materials showed that, compared to commercial coatings available in today’s market, they perform better by an order of magnitude after exhaustive testing...

Of course, more exhaustive testing on actual airplanes in wind-turbines are needed to pass industrial test requirements before adopting them for real-life usage, but they do promise significant improvement over many commercial solutions available in the market presently.

“Since our anti-icing sprays are bio-friendly and anti-bacterial, we even think there is a potential to use them in agriculture to prevent crops from being ruined by severe frost,” Anand said. “But that is a pipe dream, and we need to do more studies to see if there will be any long-term adverse effect on the plants.”” -via Good News Network, 12/28/22
