A small laugh escapes her at the colorblindness. Of course, most creatures with tapetum lucidum had different color spectrum vision, or colorblindness- but since C-virus took from insects and marine life, it was worth questioning if there was ultraviolet or infrared spectrum that Carla saw through.

Just colorblind.

"Hm. Protonopia? Deuteropia? Tritopia? Achromatopsia?" she prods, thinking to herself.

Then, the question of her own eyes draws her out of her thoughts. She has IRIS shut off for a moment, to think about her response.

"Not my choice."

She turns off the penlight, and hands it back over to Carla.

"Not really, any way. I was part of an intelligence program as a part of my fostering. Lots of little diaspora babies that would blend into different places others couldn't. China was my focus. Infiltrating Triads and conservative performance arts cults."

She shrugs, "Later in the program, me and my... I suppose you could call them 'classmates' were screened and preselected for experimental surgeries integrating cybertechnology, and undergoing training for dealing with the strain of implants."

"I was the one that ended up being selected for this very select, expensive thing- after surviving preliminary surgeries that didn't boil my brain and completely incapacitate me. What luck, huh?"

"I'm colorblind. I would not know."

Reds and blues. Just reds and blues. That, verifiably, was all her own.

"Yes. The scarring is in most infected- you don't clear a Progenitor virus, thus, the tissues cycle and can cause further degeneration and diamond shaped lesions without maintenance to regularly treat the eyes or stimulate clearing."

She had the unusual task of maintenance in a human context. Monsters were not typically maintained in a way of care or concern. They did not possess cognitive thought in most cases. The very aware thinking and feeling monsters did not have medical care.

As much as the J'avo were her fodder, and they absolutely were, she had invested a lot of time and resources into their unique biology, and catering maintenance of their bodies to their needs. It included her own.

She watched the IRIS watch her back. What a fun little piece of technology. Like looking into a funhouse mirror to see an alternative path for her own physical presentation.

Over two years, Thibault trained the algorithm to understand his thoughts and progressively increase the movements he could make.Researchers from the University of Grenoble in France, biomedical research center Clinatec and the CEA research center implanted recording devices on either side of Thibault's head, between the brain and skin, to span the sensorimotor cortex -- the area of the brain that controls motor function and sensation.Electrode grids collected the man's brain signals and transmitted them to a decoding algorithm, which translated the signals into movements and commanded a robotic exoskeleton to complete them.Over a period of two years, Thibault trained the algorithm to understand his thoughts by controlling an avatar -- a virtual character -- within a video game, making it walk and touch 2D and 3D objects.

Recording devices were implanted on either side of Thibault's head, between the skin and the brain (that means they drilled his skull out and put electrosensors in its place).He trained on simple virtual simulations before using the exoskeleton -- which is assisted by a ceiling-mounted harness -- to eventually walk, and reach for targets with his arms.Over the course of the study, Thibault covered a total of 145 meters (around 476 feet) with 480 steps using the avatar, video and exoskeleton combined, researchers said in the study, which was published in the Lancet Neurology journal on Friday.Scientists have said that the technology is an experimental treatment for now, but once improved, it could have the potential to improve patients' lives."I can't go home tomorrow in my exoskeleton, but I've got to a point where I can walk. I walk when I want and I stop when I want," Thibault told AFP.

The Maelstrom is one of the most notorious and dangerous gangs in Night City. They are all about the cybertechnology in Cyberpunk 2077 to the point of becoming cyberpsychos due to all of the augmentations they have made to their bodies. Many of them have visually changed their appearances with cybertech to the point of having mechanical faces and the like.

The name of the event seems innocuous enough, if a terrible mouthful – Black Tie Networking Cocktail Party for Finances and Technology.

"You're familiar with the organizer, so you know what this networking event is likely a front for," M says. "With your cybertechnology know-how, one of your civilian identities will do just fine to meet up with Val Tech."

Q's eyes dart to 004 and Bond on either side of M. "And the Double-Os, sir?"

"As you'll be the in-field operative for the mission, 007 will accompany you as a handler," M says.

"Really." Q can't help the way his tone drops in disbelief; from the way the corner of Bond's mouth twitches upwards, it's clear everyone hears it. "With all due respect, sir, 007 has a tendency to hijack missions even when he's the operative in question."

(Post-Spectre fic, where Q and Bond embark on an acquisition mission to obtain an important component in the cybertechnology war against Spectre, in which Q is the one wearing the suit and Bond the glasses, and the two of them have the chance to see the other in a different light).

ahhh q being a fantastic field agent is such a mood. i adore him and bond in this fic, and the characterisations of everyone from minor characters like 004 to m and major ones like q and bond are so well done.

Cyberoptical implants, cyberlimbs with built in combat modifications, and subdermal body plating are especially common” (pg 160).

Maelstrom’s territory is the industrial part of Watson. Its factories, the Totentanz Club – you’ll meet them there. They are obsessed with cybertechnology, and their urge to improve the weakness of human flesh is far stronger than their fear of cyberpsychosis.

I already did this one with Double-Oh!WWX and Quartermaster!LWJ, SO HAVE THE REVERSE:

WWX takes over R&D/Q-branch at 31 (the youngest ever Quartermaster in history), and drags everyone kicking and screaming into the world of computers and cybertechnology; LWJ is an old-school guns and explosions kind of guy, and would rather bring back the whole bloody computer rather than try to hack it on the spot

WWX likes to run comms for LWJ for the pleasure of annoying him with annoying tidbits all day long; as it turns out, most of the seemingly irrelevant information turns out to be super relevant much later on in the mission, so LWJ grudgingly allows it (although occasionally WWX will recite erotic poetry to him for three hours just for shits and giggles and watch LWJ try to decipher how it’s Relevant To The Mission - it isn’t)

LWJ doesn’t do honeypots, flat out refuses to do them even though he’s the best looking of all the Double-Ohs; WWX finds this a bit strange given his line of work, but also quite endearing that LWJ still has principles even though he already lies and kills and does everything else that goes against his principles

One time WWX was allowed in the field to assist, and kept backseat!spying, commenting about how LWJ should have done this instead, and why did you do it that way Lan Zhan, you should have—and it pisses LWJ off so he snaps at him to do it himself if he’s so good at it and WWX does and does it SO WELL; LWJ is so fucking turned on he gets angry and blows up the factory after they clear out (the paperwork afterwards is INSANE, but LWJ takes it as punishment)

LWJ discovers that WWX has the highest marksmanship score in the history of the establishment and demands to know why he isn’t out there on the field instead of in Q-branch; it’s the first time he finds WWX’s (Highly Redacted) case history and why he was permanently grounded and relegated to R&D instead (although he flourishes there too)
