Have been scrolling thru ur Kid Xequla tag for a while now and i REALLY want to ask just a few things. Who’s the Hermit that mostly babysits Xequla? And Has Xequla ever seen Scar as another parental figure seeing how close Scar and Grian are?? If not Scar, has he seen anyone else as another parental figure?

I think Mumbo babysits Xelqua the most tbh, my reasoning behind that is.... literally just how close Mumbo and Grian are as friends. Mumbo was the first to know everything abt Grian and the Watchers. (in my au.) Plus they had Grumbot together, so its not a huge leap to babysitting sometimes.

Xelqua is also pretty close to Mumbo too, he'll occasionally steal Grian's communicator and call Mumbo.

Xelqua primarily sees Grian as a parental figure, like, for him theres just One Papa and Grian fills that role ! Xelqua still close to Scar, but i think he does that little kid thing where he starts to get jealous when Grian and Scar are too affectionate, like uhmm thats myy?dad? why areyou holding his hand.... If Scar spends the night, Xelqua doesn't let him sleep next to Grian, lol, he's not messing up his routine ok. Grian thinks its funny, meanwhile Scar is like </3333whatd i do</3

I also like to think that Scar feels parental towards Xelqua, like, thats his boyfriend's son, and they're pretty serious.. He wants to be the dad that steps up !!

I pretty much agree sorta but I will also be pushing the DadTim agenda and that man is very good at taking care of things even while in the middle of a mental breakdown!!!

Big believer in Tim, Dick, Jason and Damain would all be amazing parents!!!

My understanding of the Bats as pertaining to parenting (correct me if wrong):

Dick: wants kids, eventually, maybe (yes, but indecisive. Would almost definitely be a spur of the moment or surprise thing)

- good parent, though desperately in need of someone who can be “the bad guy”

- feels he’s assembling an airplane mid flight the entire time

- very likely that his kid will grow up feeling like they can do anything. An-y-thing

Jason: very loud about not wanting kids (constantly a few seconds from kidnapping another new orphan)

-excellent parent. Could parent his way through a manic breakdown while off his meds. Everyone kinda assumes he’ll fall apart around the teenage years but is shockingly good (he learned from Sasha and is dedicated to not making the same mistakes)

-tends towards overprotectiveness, especially when the kid’s small. Terrified to death of turning out like either (any?) of his parents. Yells at his kid once (1) while mad and nearly starts crying about it.

- kid will most likely have lifetime issues with money (over cautious) and risk of codependency

Cass: no specific plans either way. Would be a killer auntie but also kinda likes the idea of doing it right this time.

- absolutely a “mama bear”. A quiet, deadly mama bear. Both deeply wants her kid to be able to explore freely but equally yearns to protect them. Nonetheless, deeply compassionate and caring.

- her child will either be 1) extremely confident, or 2) relatively shy and anxious. Possibly both. Most likely feels a similar struggle connecting to peers.

Tim: not really into the idea of being a parent. Likes babies but older kids are not really his thing. (Keep trying to kill him) If he ended up becoming a parent anyhow he’d most likely freak out but get his shit together. Possibly after some light slapping.

- at the biggest risk of being a “bad parent”, primarily out of a combination of having no idea how much attention a child needs, not wanting to turn out like his own parents, general emotional awkwardness, and an overconsumption of parenting books all giving conflicting information. Desperately needs a support, and luckily has it.

- Ultimately would do pretty good for himself. Kid would probably struggle to feel connected to him in a meaningful way. Know they’re loved but don’t know if they really KNOW their dad.

Steph (sorry man nothing here. No plans to become a parent any time soon. Probably would feel guilty that she had to give away one kid but kept the other if she did have one and that would be a terrible thing the bear)

Duke (honestly I don’t know man. Don’t even have a round about guess. Feel kinda bad about that :()

Damien: coin flip. On the one hand, would do well as a dad. On the other, would probably feel ill equipped to shape a whole person’s emotional state.

- Caring. Quiet. Probably moves to a ranch when he’s older. Instills a strong sense of confidence and responsibility. Has to personally force himself to be affectionate because he knows how much it meant to him as a kid even though he couldn’t see it.

-Their relationship would be absolute HELL through the teen years. ( “YOU DONT UNDERSTAND ME!!!” “TRUST ME, I DO. THERE WAS NO BIGGER EDGELORD. ITS EMBARRASSING. IN A COUPLE YEARS YOU WILL BE EMBARRASSED. GO TAKE A NAP AND TALK TO PEOPLE)

Daily reflection

Today was the celebration for my son's first birthday.

Here he is having a ball as the ringmaster of his very own circus. As a parent for the last year ive experienced plenty of anxiety, and a whole lot of fear for the future. I often think of what will happen to my son, and how he will turn out due to my raising him. Sometimes this thinking turns into worrying, and the worrying into an anxiety attack because what if I'm not good enough? What if I make too many mistakes? What if I fail as a father?

After a long day of preparation and sickness, I began to realize that I probably will make too many mistakes and fail as a dad, because I'm NOT good enough. The only thing that I can do is point my son to God and do my best to love and nurture this boy into a man.

Before and after S was born we heard a lot of “make sure you take time to be a couple again,” “don’t forget date night” and my favorite one “you are husband and wife before mom and dad, don’t forget each other.” While these statements were good advice, it’s not the best. Instead, here’s my advice to new (and current) parents: Don’t forget YOU. Don’t forget to take time for YOURSELF. Sometimes date night is actually self-care night. For us, it means we have a “date” of pizza delivery and our favorite show while the baby mashes pizza and Mac-and-cheese in his hair and play with him before bedtime. Then we take the time for our own self-care. For him, it’s playing Xbox with the boys for a bit while keeping an ear out for S. For me, it’s catching bugs and fish on my island while watching crummy reality tv on YouTube and sipping on hot chocolate or hot cider (yes I know it’s a thousand degrees outside 🙄).
