Darkness and the Demonic Divine Part 1
(I am speaking from my own investigations, experiences and gnosis of this)
I would like to speak about darkness; as an energy, as a “place”, how it applies to the demonic divine and how it can show up. This is a bit dream-like, gnosis woven in here, to try and conceptualize and convey the energies I am speaking to in tangible human language form.
Many paradigms say that darkness is the opposite of light and that “one cannot exist without the other.” This is not something I feel to be accurate or true. Darkness existed before light came into being (as is the case in many world mythologies as well) and will exist after light fades; and this has always been. It does not need light to exist. Darkness in this case can be synonymous with chaos, the primordial void, the creative cauldron, or womb-tomb - depending on how it is seen. Darkness can also drift into more internal and internal realm philosophies and notions as well. As an energy Darkness is vast. Light in a sense, is what splits the darkness and can be used to differentiate- to categorize and put things into boxes- like conscious and unconsciousness (this aspect of it would be on a psychological level or light/darkness ideas).  Darkness exists in many ways and different spaces. Darkness is not merely the inverse of light and does not simply exist to “balance” things out. This dichotomy that quite a lot of human philosophy the duality- is not something that is applicable to otherworlds, realms etc. Darkness can also speak to dark matter, space itself and other such theories in existence. Darkness as an energy and  “place” is very complex, it can include things humans consider “evil” (but aren’t actually; energy it is neutral and evil is mostly a human morality judgement bias- this is a nuanced discussion for another time though). Darkness also includes things relegated to the shadows of human consciousness, the unknown, primal layers, primordial layers, the night, the void etc. There is also natural darkness; in this instance the natural darkness found in humans and darkness in nature itself- among other types.
There are different types of darkness it is not just a conglomerate energy, different flavors if you will. And yes, the “light” of consciousness can be beneficial to engage with in some instances with the darkness, but I find it need a more expansive approach then how consciousness, logic etc is usually engaged with. Shadow work is a good but complex example of this. To understand the different types of darkness (via energetic feeling rather than what is “seen” via the mind) is another. There are certain dangers that hide in the light and ones that hide in the darkness. Trying to approach true darkness as merely an inversion of what is found in the light is very limiting, as so much more exists in the darkness. Darkness also encompasses all that is unknown (incomprehensible to the “light” of consciousness) but also the unknown that exists beyond personal perception. It is both within and without. This is quite difficult to actually put into words to conceptualize (given the nature of darkness itself) and is most often alluded to in metaphor. Because it is more about energy then what human words convey and often language is not enough, nor is the human mind able to fully grasp this- as by its very nature to truly remain in the dark is to avoid the light of the conscious ego mind.
Demonic Divine Darkness
I have noticed that most who speak about the demonic divine online tend to have a kind of immature understanding of the demonic divine and darkness. There seems to be a tendency with the demonic divine to take a kind of “rhp” (somewhat neopagan narrative in a sense) perspective and paradigm of the gods and apply it to demons.
By this perspective I mean that - the gods/demonic care about you specifically, about all you troubles/ wants and needs- that what the gods/demonic divine do, trials in your life, what the gods/demonic “ask” of you is specifically for your benefit, ideas of “fluffiness” almost and oneness/unity. That the gods/demonic care about humans specifically and wouldn’t ever do anything to hurt humans. That the gods/demonic are approached and interacted with in basically the same way you would another respected human ie that the cultures, laws, social norms, functioning and beliefs that apply to humans are applied fairly automatically to the gods/demonic.
It is almost like transposing directly neopagan “rhp” like paradigms and understandings of “deity/spirit work” of how it is in paganism generally onto the demonic divine. Taking something from the “light” in a sense and placing it upon beings of darkness and expecting it to work the same way. This is never to say that the demonic divine should not be respected and treated well etc, but that its more nuanced then just taking something that worked elsewhere and applying it directly and expecting the same outcome and interactions.
A couple of examples of this: Lord Rosier for example is the Dark Lord of love (He is not the only DL with this domain though). Many people equate love with romantic relationships or what humans understand as love. And yes that is part of His domain- but He actually presides over all forms of love. This includes more “unsavory” things to human consciousness, like love of war, love of violence, love of the taboo etc, love to obsession and all the more “unhealthy” aspects of it too; it isn’t just happy fluffy romantic love that is in His domain. Love is much vaster than what the general human populace understands it to be. Lord Rosier also presides over and is knowledgeable about love to the point of obsession and madness even. As such He can be called upon for baneful work in those directions, or help healing from it. This is the darkness that demons carry and delve into.
With “love” as an example of the demonic divine domain-there is nuance to this. Take obsessive “love” or other harmful forms of love for example; these things can be (nuanced again) unhealthy and damaging. While these areas are technically within the domain of what love is; what the Lord Rosier and the Demonic Divine actually deal with; is the divine level of this. Whereas dangerous obsession or narcissistic self-love etc (the point that it is damaging to other people- but I’m not delving into the nuance of it here) is more on the level of false darkness- and what Lord Rosiers energy is actually attuned to is Divine energy and divine darkness- not false darkness.
And this is true of all Dark Lords their domains and who they are, what energy they actually “represent” and preside over is the pure divine darkness level. Pure energy doesn’t mean it’s either good or bad- energy is neutral. Similarly just because something is divine or pure for example does not mean it is always or even has to be either good, healthy or needed for humans. And this is also a nuance that is often missed; the idea that all divine is and “has to be”  good for you.
Another point for example is with Lord Lucifer. I have noticed that some have referred to Him as very loving, kind, caring etc and almost “fluffy” in a sense, and only seem to mention this-as though this is all He is. Lord Lucifer whom I connect with, has never been nice or fluffy and He does love but it is on a completely different magnitude to how love is generally understood in humans. He can be utterly brutal in this as well. Of course; people connect differently and are not likely connecting to the same being even, but it kind of comes across as trying to “tone him down” to suit what people (their egos) are comfortable with or make Him “more accessible”. Which to my eyes is verging on disrespectful. Demons are not “fluffy,” and honestly it does not suit every practitioner to work with them- specifically because of the level of divine darkness They are and exist at. They also do not need to be toned down for the masses, and They work with who they choose, and those who feel called and drawn. This is not to say the demonic divine may never act like that, but to suggest that they predominantly do- is missing a whole lot of Them. This is of course a nuanced discussion though.
Truly working with (pathworking with) the demonic divine is fundamentally different from working with pagan gods. How the demonic divine work and interact with practitioners differs in quite a number of ways because the demonic divine’s viewpoint and approach is different.
To take a fundamentally “light” based paradigm and place it on these beings is doing a disservice to practitioners because it is putting the Demonic Divine in a box and missing out on a large part of Their magnificence (which lies in the Darkness- after all They are beings of darkness). Trying to pierce the divine darkness with light, often scatters and reflects the shadows it doesn’t really make for a better connection to the divine darkness.
Differences between Pagan deities and Demonic Divine in workings
Pagan gods tend to be specifically interested and invested in humans and their lives and this world/earthen realm. While they do not need humans to exist, they are mythologically tied to humans and this realm. Most of their mythos is linked in some way to human life or understanding- creation myths for example. Their myths which could also be read as allegories for humans to understand how to function well amongst each other, stories, and examples of humanizing the divine. The Demonic Divine are not interested or invested in humans in the same way that gods are (on the level I connect with, but also in general). To assume that Demonic Divine care about humans in the same or similar ways (people’s everyday lives, minutiae, and mundane matters etc or even the more extreme version where the demonic are treated like a wish granting vending machines or they exist specifically for you and your desires) is distorted and not aligned the truth of it, nor of who They are. This isn’t to say that the demonic divine don’t “care” at all etc They can choose to and sometimes do, but its not the same way as gods do and its nuanced.
Also I think it depends on what level you get the demonic on as to how much They care; about the practitioners’ themselves, day to day lives and mundanity and more generally- about a wider humanity. For example; more “earthen level” demons may demonstrate more caring about humanity as a whole then say the otherworldly demonic I connect on. I don’t find the Demonic Divine to be as “invested” in the functioning of the (inner) and earthen realms, the way pagan gods can be. For example the Demonic Divine I connect with have no connection to seasonal nature on the earthen or inner realms. Given that the demonic divine are beings of darkness; in Their auspices and domains They also carry the darkness of these areas; which is much more expansive than what most people are aware of. Demonic Divine beings and Their domains do encompass the darkness in ways that are not bound by what humans find societally acceptable or even in ways that human minds and consciousness can truly comprehend.
The further away from the human realm one gets when exploring or connecting to these beings- the less human judgements  and biases even matter and honestly the more dangerous it can become. And in the vastness that is Darkness; it is also not just divine demonic energy, there are other divine dark energies that are not demonic. And there many types of darkness as well.

Whenever I'm tempted by Christianity...
Part 1. The psychology
Every so often I'm tempted to return to the faith of my youth. The hymns, the beautiful liturgy, the imagery are all things I honestly miss.
But then I open a prayer book:
In your mercy
Forgive my manifold sins
Save me oh Lord
I have done evil in your sight
I am nothing without your steadfast mercy
Forgive me lest I am consumed by thy wrath
On and on it goes.
It tells me what a worthless, dirty and pitiful creature I am. How can any person become whole with such damaging psychology. It reminds me of how spousal abuse victims are indoctrinated. Repeating such garbage is like drinking poison.
No matter how loving and kind Christians portray their God I can't believe it. He's ruthless in the Bible and his salvation is based on our complete and utter failure in living up to the standard of being unthinking robots to his will. But he loves us?
Part 2. The Theology
In the beginning god created all that is and it was perfect. Then some angels didn't want to be ruled all the time and rebellion broke out in heaven. They in turn corrupted mankind by revealing good and evil?
So this god decided to curse humanity with death, hardship and strife. Along came some fallen angels and fell in love with mankind. They taught them culture, metallurgy, astrology etc. For this mankind was punished with a flood to whipe out everyone from existence.
Now, this god decided to save humanity by becoming a man and take all sin onto himself. You see, God's justice demands our destruction but there is nothing we can offer that is worthy enough as a sacrifice. So in the end god has to do it... to appease himself!?
Still, if we sin we land in hell anyway, unless we repent and crawl in the dust.
Conclusion
Tumblr media
Human beings are worthless, undeserving worms and God would like nothing more then to destroy us. Yet, because he is merciful he decided to commit a divine suicide to appease himself.
In the end the infernal divines, the demons, did more for us than our supposed creator in Christian mythology. They taught us the difference between good and evil. They loved us, guided us and became our teachers.
God on the other hand would have liked nothing more then for us to have remained unquestioning, dumb marionettes. He punished us for every step towards sentience, maturity and self-reliance.
But I still miss the hymns, liturgy and imagery all the same...

While I wear the crown of Theistic Satanist, I am at my heart and soul a Pagan and Animist.
When I started in The Craft, I joined a Wiccan coven and worked through my 1st degree. Before that, I was always fascinated by theology, folklore, and mythology of North America, Ancient Rome and Egypt. I spent years reading and studying (non academic) about such things, so when I started my path I felt confident in my knowledge of the gods.
As a baby witch I had a difficult time "connecting" with a God and Goddess. No one seemed to call to me, or ones from cultures that didn't mix well did. Still, "Mom" and "Dad" eluded me. Then I found Baphomet.  Now I had heard the name before, and was aware of their usage as a symbol for Satan within Laveyan Satanism (Atheist). Thankfully, my High Priest at the time was a Freemason and assisted with questions I had.
As I've mentioned in prior posts, I read a book titled the Baphomet Codex. While I do not adhear to everything in that text, it assisted me with a foundation. Which is as follows.
Baphomet is all, and nothing. Baphomet is Source, Spirit, Universe, The Force.
The Divine Masculine is Sammeal.
When I met Him, it was not the Fallen Angel other Theists see Him as. He was Primordial, dark, unbridled. Very much the embodiment of a Dark Horned God (The Devil)
The Divine Feminine is Lilith.
The Dark Mother was just that, Primal, beautiful and Dark. I viewed(view) her as The Scared Mother. The snarling she wolf, the deep dark abyss, wreathing Primordial beast.
Their intensity hit me hard and fast, it was scary and traumatic. Certain aspects of my life started to fall away, and instead of trusting them I held on. Allowing the process of my awaking to them to slow down and almost stop. (More on that in a future post).
Being a Witch, I do enjoy ritual. Whilst studying and practicing Wiccan I simply referred to the quarters as their corresponding elements and titles of "Guardians of [insert direction]"
After reading the Baphomet Codex and other sources aligned with Demonolatry I found Watchers or Principalities of the quartets. They are as follows.
North:Earth-Hekate.
After meeting her in this capacity, I found her showing up in other aspects of my life and she has since become important to my practice outside of her principality.
South:Fire-Satan or Azazel
I first started with Satan or more importantly the creative trickster force of nature. I am someone who isnt to keen on separating Lucifer/Satan as different entities. So it became complicated for me. After some time, I started working with Azazel outside of this aspect. I soon found Him to fit nicely in the role of Southern Quarter. (His direction is south)
West:Water-Leviathan
Within the Baphomet codex, Taimat is the western principality. I attempted to utilize her as such, but did not feel a connection. I then incorporated Jorminder the great serpent from Norse pantheon, but soon found Leviathan to be more suitable. I am still in the process of building a relationship with Him. Being a heavy water sign, Sun Cancer, Moon Scorpio. I tend to get "lost" in the flow of Abyssly Ether when I work with Him.
East:Air-Lucifer
Oh where oh where to begin with dear Lucifer.
I did not "officially" meet Him in this aspect. Yes I felt his pull when I read the Baphomet Codex and saw Him placed in such a role. However I did not meet Him as such. That's another story for another time. I have found His standing as the Eastern Watcher to be beneficial, however He has come to play an even more important role in my life.
Working outward and away from the Quarters, I work with other Daemon, Sprites, Ancestors and guides.
I am not someone to only go to Daemon when I "need" something. I very much enjoy worshiping and Venerating them. There are certain ones I feel pulled to work with, recently it has been Raum, Stolis, Valac, and Paimon.
When it comes to Spirits, I often take an Animist/Shinto approach. I hold that there are spirits of the land, of a thing/place and a spirit that resides. I also hold that spirits of the dead are very much real, as are older spirits such as Fae, "cryptids" , hildafolk and those within other cultures I do not know their names.
When I speak of my ancestors it is not just those from ancient times. I have been attempting research into my family's history. Having both my grandparents and mother not within this plain of existence I often honor them when I can.
My guides tend to appear in animal form. Often times to teach me a "lesson" of some sort or reminders of my path. They are often animals associated with the God's I work with. Such as, snakes, owls, hawks, crows, goats, cats, and black dogs.
Another important guide is Lucifer. Though I hold Him in a higher standing, he often takes on this role.
Other God's I find important are those of the Crossroads, Underworld and Dark Feminine.
Note: What I have expressed is simply my own practice, no two practioners are the same. This is what works and calls to me. As my former High Priest would say, "eat the chicken spit out the bones". Take what you will from books and resources, only you know what works for you.

On the Mountain of the Otherworld,
where spirits flit amongst the trees and knowledge blossoms like bluebells, you see two paths.
Both, of course, lead to the summit. One twists and turns in upon itself, a wild thing where getting your clothes dirty isn't a question of "if," but "when." The other is straight, but steep and enveloped in fog.
The first path beckons to you, and promises illumination through ecstatic ritual and wild kinship with those who walk on four legs. The catch? Of course there's a catch, this isn't an ordinary mountain. It's the simple fact that the promised illumination will forever evade you if you lose sight of yourself and why you're here.
You shudder. Perhaps the second path is better suited to you. You crane your neck as you trace an impossibly steep, but paved stone road up to the summit. At the end of this path also lies the illumination you seek, but gained through transcending the realm of beast, plant, and human. The catch here is it demands of you an iron discipline, and you must leave your bones and your flesh at some point on the way beneath a hawthorn tree.
Now of course, traveler, you may stay in this tavern at the foot of the mountain. You need not fear where your next meal may come from, and the cold of night will not bite at your skin. But if you choose to delay your ascent, or even forsake it entirely, the secrets of the vines and stones and shrubs will remain hidden to you.

If your god is against homosexuality, then I’m against your god.
If you’re against homosexuality, then I’m against you.
Is your god actually homophobic or are you just projecting your homophobia onto your perception of divinity?
It doesn’t matter. Whatever you use as the justification for your bigotry, I wholeheartedly oppose.
I’m against anyone who paints the LGBTQIA+ community as inherently wrong, immoral, corrupt, or unnatural. I’m fine with being the opposer to any oppressive force, regardless of whether it’s a human, deity, institution, or otherwise. Your justifications are just excuses for your failure to be a good person.

King Belial: The Winter King
Tumblr media
(artist: Христина Ваврик on artstation)
King Belial (on the level I connect with) came to me a few years ago soon after I began working with Him under the guise of the Winter King. One of His demonolatry festivals is traditionally celebrated at this time of year; Yule/Litha, so He is often included in my celebrations – as abundance, provision, fertility - the jovial king of wealth and fecundity and all that represents- alongside Lord Mammon in these celebrations of course. (Though I find Lord Mammon more in the role of Holly king). But this time was different. King Belial appeared more wild then usual- more Etin like- a force of nature, blood on the snow, the blizzard, the freezing and near cessation of life, and Death in the depths of winter. King Belial for me has always been quite primal. The Witches God yes but also - more associated with animalistic nature, the raw strength and power of such. And too- the fertility, fecundity and bounty of the earth- the hidden riches, wealth in all its forms though particularly more earthen tangible riches- like gemstones etc. He is similar to Hades or Pluto in that aspect. The Winter King aspect is more saturnian though.
Tumblr media
As the Winter King; He is very connected with the cyclical nature of winter- being god of the Earth elements this is understandable. As the Winter King he is the embodiment of this. In this role He is far from civilisation, far from the civilised worlds, works and societies, and the trappings He may usually be associated with. Here He is the Wild. The harsh winters, blood on the snow, the nature of hunger, the frostbitten, the savagery of the winter nights, the arctic ice sheets, the power and raw fury of the harsh winter. And yet… There is life in every breathe- the pursuit of survival in the harshest of climates, the bright spark of life, of renewal in the depths of unforgiving winter. This is where the fecundity, more Jovian aspect is still apparent.
He is also the Hunt, the hunting and the hunted, the process and drive of survival, the killing, the slaughter, and the dying so that others may survive- the sacrifice- blood on the snow. And of course, Death itself, the last desperate inhale before the final chilled breath escapes and all movement stops…. There is honour and majesty in this too. King Belial as the Winter King has taught me much about the nature of survival, the strength it takes to persevere when all seems dead and lost around, and too- the majesty and magnificence of the game, of nature itself. Among these darker, colder aspects He also breathes life and space for hedonistic celebration, of pleasure, and of space for raucous fun- to keep the spark alive and to value our lives and being alive no matter where we are at. The importance of such acknowledgement and of what it truly means to feel alive- even in the depths of death and the ice itself.
In terms of death and the dead, in this aspect He is linked with the haunted, the spirit and the ghostly echoes. He gathers them to His mantle in this coldest of times to once again breathe new life- in restoration/reincarnation/renewal, come the spring. King Belial as Winter King has counselled me in the nature of mourning, allowing time and space to be and feel. This is linked with the stillness and times of reflection of turning inward that winter often signifies.
Tumblr media
(artist: Derek E on artstation)
King Belial is more primal at this time, even more connected to the natural cycles then usual and as the Winter King holds more purview over these areas then his usual Jovian wealth and prosperity aspects. I find Him a lot harsher and colder to work with though there is also wisdom and majesty to behold here as well.

Witchy / Pagan Question
I'm wanting to put up an altar but I'm worried that one of the cats (gotta be Sandra) will knock things around. She'll want to play with everything.
Does anyone have experience with altars and cats? Do you do anything special to keep the cat(s) away from important things?

Be you!
To be a Satanist, you don’t need to be edgy or a blasphemer. You don’t need a dark aesthetic or punk attitude.
If that feels good to you, then do it.
If it presents you authentically, then do it.
If not, don’t.
Satan tells us to be who we are, without fear. He honors you for you. Find that which empowers you to live fully, feel fully and just BE fully.
I honor you on your path.
Hail Satan.
