Got anything else you want to talk about when it comes to King shahryar

I was thinking about the way King Shahryar acted towards Eggman in Sonic Runners. It made me imagine what it would be like if they met in more detail, so I'll take this as an opportunity to share some ideas for it!

Eggman would almost be envious of Shahryar's life of luxury, how he lives in a palace so grand, and always gets what he wants. His life is less stressful because he doesn't have plans for world domination that are repeatedly foiled by an annoying hedgehog. He wishes he at least had the control and position Shahryar has, as a mere starter for one day ruling the world, of course.

Whenever Eggman expresses awe at just how alike they are in appearance, Shahryar heavily denies it. Eggman also compares their personalities to get his point across because of the way they both demand respect and desire control. It would get to the point where he'd literally make him look at a reflection of them both side by side to prove it but Shahryar would still deny it.

Eggman finds him attractive because he's a spitting image of himself lol, but Shahryar wouldn't appreciate his attempts at flirting. He'd be too focused on denying their likeness. The reason he's in denial is that he doesn't want to believe anyone can match his own magnificent appearance. He believes everything about him is better than Eggman, despite them being the same.

He also doesn't like Eggman's attitude and outspokenness because he feels like he's trying to rival his own confidence. Because he demands the highest amount of respect, he'd feel like Eggman isn't giving it because he's loud and rude. But again, Eggman's behavior is actually a perfect match to his because neither of them treats others the way they want to be treated.

One thing Eggman can't understand is how Shahryar doesn't desire much beyond what he owns, besides treasure for his collection at least. The king is content with his life and what he has but Eggman will forever seek more, even if he were to accomplish all his current life goals. That's one of their biggest differences. Eggman wouldn't settle for just a kingdom, the entire world will always be his goal.

I still haven't decided how Eggman ends up in the story or why he visits in the first place, but he'd stick around for a bit to learn more about the world and Shahryar's life. Shahryar doesn't want him to but when he realizes he won't shove off, he gives in and lets him tag along for the day. Eggman sees that Shahryar's life isn't very active but he spends his days very similar to his off days, so he doesn't mind it.

Eggman likes to see Shahryar ordering around his underlings with confidence and how he demands everything to be perfect. He'd be entertained by it and admire the fire in him. He'd offer advice when it comes to demanding respect and punishing those that refuse to give it. Shahryar already has a good start with the way he has people executed for the pettiest of reasons but if he hears Eggman out, he'll learn some more useful tips. XD

Eggman gets to stay for mealtime and he very much appreciates Shahryar’s tastes in his big royal feasts. He says it’s no wonder why the king is just as fat as he is but Shahryar would still deny that they have so much in common. Eggman constantly points out their similarities but stops trying to push too hard to fully convince him because he doesn’t want to be kicked out. Especially not when he’s lucky enough to get to stay for a pleasant meal.

They bond over their experiences with Sonic because Shahryar didn't like the hedgehog’s attitude and how he didn't respect him in the way that he expects everyone to as the king. They'd rant about him but Shahryar would be surprised by how Eggman's hatred is much more intense, he'd also be very confused by his rambling about the brilliance of his creations as he wouldn’t understand a word. He doesn't even know what robots are!

Eggman finds out that Shahryar likes to show off his sword and challenges him to a playful fight as an opportunity to display his skills. Shahryar has never dueled outside of serious circumstances before, he enjoys it and is even impressed by Eggman's skills. He also warms up to his charm and starts to feel quite flattered when he flirts with him. It makes him realize it’s possible to have fun with him and that he isn't so annoying after all. He doesn’t admit it but Eggman can tell and he’s pleased his charm has worked once again.

When he learns about Shahryar’s treasure chamber, Eggman is allowed to enter it see. Only because he said he has no desire to steal anything because he’s already wealthy and he only wants Chaos Emeralds. He shows him one and Shahryar is instantly charmed by its beauty. He wants it but Eggman is of course very protective. But seeing it up close makes Shahryar consider owning his world’s equivalent, the World Rings. He would want them solely for display purposes while Eggman is most interested in the emeralds for their power.

Eggman will ask Shahryar why he doesn't at least dream of having more beyond his kingdom and will try to make world domination seem appealing. He'll try to get him to consider because he'd love for the equivalent of himself in every world and dimension to rule the world. It's what his greatness deserves. If Shahryar won't do it, Eggman will make his world another place of interest to conquer himself. He definitely won't be telling the king this!

SNSD/ Girl’s Generation Kwon Yuri Birth Chart Description

hi fairies! I decided to do another birth chart description with another SNSD member that I find interesting --- Kwon Yuri!

Miss Yuri was born on 5 December 1989 which makes her a sagittarius sun, pisces moon! just based on her sun and moon alone, yuri possesses a lot of neptune and jupiter influences. This is very obvious in her personality and the way she presents herself, because she is extremely entertaining, honest to a fault, ditzy and innocent! In terms of innocence, I would say she’s not the type to play much mind games, and this may cause others to take advantage of her easily. The SNSD members often take advantage of this trait of hers, by tricking her when playing rock paper scissors or making gag jokes out of her!

With a sagittarius sun, yuri is bright and motivated. at a young age, she was already known for her swimming skills, and her sporty side! even in snsd sport shows, yuri remains as the top few of the team with a athletic body and quick reaction. Yuri is also honest and does not appreciate trickery. She fits well with members who have stronger air or fire in their chart, because she is a very fiery person herself! Sagittarius suns also tend to be outgoing and friendly. Yuri is known to be friends with almost everyone, and she was also often found in clubs when she was younger! I would say she’s one of the wilder members in SNSD, although all of them are wild in their own right. She is naturally kind-hearted and competitive while sporting camaraderie.

I would say Yuri’s pisces moon influences her a lot. Having a 1° 13' pisces moon makes her sensitive and receptive to the emotions around her. she turned 18 when she realized she had lost so many years to living in a mold she no longer fit in. she was more than just preppy church outfits and cooking sundays with her mother, she was more than a daddy’s girl who washed tables when the restaurant was closed. what did adults always say? a good education promised a good future, so, veronica applied to the college of southern nevada for a degree in communications with a minor in women’s studies. she had no idea where she was heading, but it was a start.

veronica worked as a stripper during college until she graduated with a degree that would soon become irrelevant and useless. with contribution from her parents who never even judged her for her job (it was true nikki did tell them it was just a dancing studio) and with her savings, veronica moved out of nevada and headed to california. she found a small place and joined a community business that organized all kinds of social and sport activities. she became a pro at all yoga, zumba, meditation and dancing activities. she loved to work with the kids, the families and the older people who were just searching for a fun time.

while she was working there, nikki started to get active on social media. she would most dance choreographies to massive songs, making hundreds of thousands of views on youtube. she liked the attention she was getting, but she still preferred her real job the most.

mid-twenties

so she met someone. randomly. they hooked up with no after thoughts, then hooked up again and again and again... it felt like love to them. everything escalated so quickly, but it felt like she was finally meeting her parents’ expectations so nikki went with it. Count: First met him when she was “adopted” by the bunch of vampires. He was offering to give them residence, but they all turned him down. Met him again when she was touring the world alone and made him an acquaintance, they became really good friends after that.

Leonardo: Met him when she was touring in Italy with Count. He kept treating her like a small child (still do), and they would drag each other like how he and Count would. He likes messing up her hair, she likes stepping on him when he’s asleep. Also a pair of good friends.

Arthur: Arthur was interested in Salvie and find her dominating personality challenging, but he knew well enough not to lay a finger on her. You just don’t simply go against someone who could lop off your head and had associations with the mafia. On the other hand thou, they were drinking buddies, and sometimes Salvie would pick up girls with him. They gamble a lot together too.

Dazai: They have an odd relationship. It might be because they’re somehow similar in a way, they know what line not to cross. They just have this weird bond that no one can put a finger to determine what it is.

Isaac: They don’t really talk much, she only knows he really likes apple from what she heard from Dazai, but that’s probably a lie…

Theodorous: God how Salvie loves to tease and sass him. Much like Leo, they would banter every time they met, but Theo always ends up leaving, flustered. He was too young compared to her, maybe a couple more years and his bantering skills might improve. They weren’t really on good terms, especially with how Salvie was involved with Shakespeare and the goddamn mafia, plus how close she and Vincent is.

Vincent: Pure, innocent baby boy. “I’ve only met Vincent for 15 seconds and if anyone hurts him I’ll kill everyone in this room and then myself.” Absolutely adores him and prefers him over Theo. Salvie admires how innocent he was, and that nature of him would always make her worry about him. She will also give him everything he wants or needs, just to see him smile.

Sebastian: When Count first brought him to the world, she was intrigued by the human who managed to charm him. So she would frequently visit just to see how Sebas works… Until he starts digging her information. She knew his passion well and understood that, but she would prefer if Sebas exclude her from his mysterious notebook.

Napoleon: Salvie was very interested in him, being a demi-vampire, but she does not question him about it. If he isn’t willing to say, then she had no reason to pry. Along with Jeanne, the three of them practiced sword fights from time to time. Salvie would always be fascinated by both of their skills. You could say that their relationship is quite well.

Mozart: Salvie does not talk much with Mozart, but lowkey likes his performance. She would always attend a ball or an activity if Mozart is the one playing the piano. Salvie also finds his prickly attitude fun to tease, but would rather see Arthur tease him. They would only exchange words when it comes to music and that’s it.

Jeanne: Aside from sparring with him, Salvie also supplies weapons to him. She doesn’t question why, as that was the nature of her business. She couldn’t refuse too, since business is business, and he was a resident of Count’s, which she promised the dad before that she would sponsor his residents too, because he was a friend of hers.

Shakespeare: Basically (kinda) love at first sight. Both of them were born with chaos in them, and so they attract each other. She did not meet him when he became the first resident of Count, but she did hear about it. She met him in a ball. It’s a long ass story how they get together but yeah, these two dumbasses are doing fine and dandy as a couple, have their banters and bickers sometimes but all is well. Unless….?

PERSONALITY

Likes: Gambling, attending balls (especially masquerade balls), hunting, going off adventures with her beloved horse, sword fight, overly sweet stuff

Dislikes: Following a schedule/orders, getting treated like a feeble maiden/young child, proper meal, proper sleep

Strength: She’s superb at gambling and swinging her sword, mediocre at drinking, she aced in “not giving a shit”

Weakness: Hides her feelings a lot, tends to distance herself from people who know her to a certain degree, can’t sleep in peace ever

Personality: Let’s just start with: Salvie is chaotic. Very chaotic. Even the name “Salvatore” already tells you she spells trouble. She doesn’t like being bound by rules, schedules or anyone’s orders, she’s a free soul who decides every step. However, she isn’t reckless, each action she took is calculated and rationally think through, as she does not wish to take a step she regrets. That careful and meticulous approach made her seem wise–despite how young she looks–mature even. Well, but sometimes Salvie could be bratty too, since “her adorable looks is the biggest fraud” (quoted from Leo). She also has a bold personality, and that results in her sassing the great men fearlessly, yet that doesn’t mean she doesn’t respect them, in fact, it’s the opposite. She looked up to them greatly, as they were awesome enough to get their name engraved in history.

Her biggest charm is definitely her carefree attitude. She’s just, y’know, damn chill. Salvie doesn’t have a care towards anything, therefore her pronouns and attire choices. Although her easy-going characteristics is an appeal, it’s sometimes a flaw as well. It made it difficult to get along with her as the specifics about her is unclear. Since she was so chill with everything, it’s certainly hard to pin down what are her favourites and stuff. Contradictorily, that light-hearted manner doesn’t apply to people. She unintentionally looks after people, even if she doesn’t want to care, she would still unknowingly do something for them, like leaving them a cup of tea on the table every morning.

On the other hand though, kinda like Dazai, Salvie’s breezy and free demeanor makes it hard to grasp her true character, not mentioning the fact that she tends to sweep everything under the rug. She has a way with words that always, somehow, avoid the topic about herself, and that made her mysterious in a way. She was very quiet of her thoughts, especially things on her mind, rarely talking about her problems. She would tend to fend off questions about that with a gentle reassuring smile and a wispy attitude, as she disliked someone poking into her problems (and of course because she didn’t want to seem weak).

HISTORY

Backstory: Salvie was not recorded at any point in history, yet she was revived. She did not know why and did not question so. When she was first revived, she did not remember anything except her name. Dozens of questions were in her mind, yet there was no one to answer her. For what feels like an eternity, she wandered on the streets aimlessly until she met her kind. They were strong, independent, and raised her as if she was a newborn. Well, she was, kinda. The days gradually passed, and she too, came to understand that she had been reborn into a person–no, an immortal with unrestrained freedom, with unlimited time (not really, but you get the idea). As soon as she came to that conclusion, she bid goodbye to her friends, (guardians maybe?) and took a flight to achieve her dreams–to live how she wanted in her previous life.

Family: Salvie doesn’t remember (or rather, it was insignificant to her) her family in her previous life. She only recognized the group of vampires that took her in as her guardians.

Other history: How Salvie was involved in the mafia is… Well, chaotic. She was supposed to be on the tour with Count to Italy, to visit his long lost friend Leonardo, but along the way she somehow stumbled into an illegal gambling den, challenged the don (with very extreme conditions), defeated the don and accidentally become the new don of the mafia. After going through all the messy procedures, the news about a new mafia boss named “Lord Salvatore” quickly spread through Italy. His nature was depicted as cruel and ruthless as he gets anything he wants, and no one stands in his way. Yet what’s weird was that the “Salvatore Family” was rumored to be civilized and noble, as they were ordered that no blood should be drawn unless it was required to. You can imagine the horror on Leo and Count’s face when they heard about this, and the compliments from her guardians.

lucifer s5: best guesses about tone/theme

I think it’s going to be a pretty positive feeling season. I have no clue about specific plot stuff, but just the overall tone and thematic message. I’m coming at this from several assumptions (any/all of which might be wrong!), which are:

It’s a myth/fairy tale that’s supposed to convey psychological truths about the life cycle

Specifically, like a lot of fairy tales/myths, it’s a story about the maturation process, emotionally, from child to adult

The angels are eternally in the “child” role in their family because they do not question their Father, just obey and admire him. They do not form families of their own, or articulate what they want the world to be

Lucifer was the first angel to become a “teenager” and start the process of separating your identity from your parents by questioning/rebelling against them... and he was smacked down so hard for that (told that he was evil) that he’s been stuck in that stage until he came to Earth this time and started getting therapy/forming real emotional bonds outside his original family

Their vision of adulthood is one that balances Duty and Desire/the inner Adult and Child

This is represented by Chloe (Duty) and Lucifer (Desire). They’re a woman who never got to be a child and a man who was told perpetual obedient “childhood” was the only way to be good and dutiful. Both characters have within themselves the other’s dominant quality: Chloe desperately wants to express desire/joy and embrace her inner child for the first time and Lucifer wants to find a way to embrace duty as an adult, as something he chooses and owns for himself, rather than blind obedience to Dad

When they start out they have negative/unbalanced versions of Duty and Desire - Chloe just buries herself in what she owes to others and she’s suffering. She’s isolated, she’s hurting. Apart from Trixie, none of her connections really nourish her soul. Lucifer embraces desire so much that none of his connections really nourish his soul either. He’s living entirely in the fun side of things, but that can be empty if there’s no genuine giving to and connecting with others beyond that. There has to be a balance and they seek that balance in each other.

IMO it’s not a coincidence that talking to Chloe and holding her while she cries and then turning down her offer of sex out of concern for her is an important turning point in her growing trust in S1 and his burgeoning growth/redemption arc. He doesn’t just want the fun things he can get from her: he wants to be there for her when she’s hurting too

IF (and it is a big if) I’m guessing right here, then S4 was about the Duty/Adulthood side of things.

Lucifer figures out how to embrace duty as an adult (rather than an eternally obedient child/angel). He ends up in the same place (literally) that he was, but this time from active choice and out of his love for the family he’s found separate from his parents, no longer caught in a desperate cycle of love/hate with his dad, no longer entirely defined by that relationship.

And it’s hard but it’s satisfying - in the same way Amenadiel becomes an adult, as a father, having to really look at the world and make choices about what he wants it to be. Two eternal children, trapped as the Good Son and the Rebellious Son, break that cycle and achieve the point of maturation, which is to make your own decisions about what *you* believe should be and then follow that up by putting your money where your mouth is and living out your values with the people you love.

Even when it’s hard, it’s *yours*. Your life, which you’ve chosen. Nobody else is telling you what to think or do.

The whole thematic feel of S4 is the hard work side of things in that sense. For the main romance, the hard work of repairing a long-term relationship is the focus of things for Chloe and Lucifer. How you have to decide whether you want to keep choosing this person or not, even when they show that they’re flawed and cause you pain.

But, like.... okay, so they fought their way to a positive articulation of duty as an adult who owns their own choices and consequences. But where’s a positive articulation of desire/letting your inner child have fun too?

That’s what I see as missing and they have one season left to address that, so.... I do think it’s going to be overall (in tone and mood) a season with some real joy in it. Not 24/7 but an overall sense of claiming the joy that’s the other side of all the hard work of owning your life and your choices as an adult.

The final piece of evidence for that, for me, is that if this is a coming-of-age story about the maturation process, then it ought to have a happy ending: people find their way, make their own lives and pay the price for that but also reap the rewards.

It’s not just my shippy heart that wants scenes of Chloe (after trying so hard previously and having it not work out!) getting to have *fun* with Lucifer in a real way. And him getting to experience fully the positive side of desire: which is how enriching it is when you share it with someone you *also* share your adult burdens of duty with. So there’s a positive cycle of sharing obligations and joy between you.

It’s also a story about community and they’ve built up a pretty great blended/found family - so I think there’s probably going to be something about how the strength of that family will come together to resolve the final situation. I don’t think the show intends for Dad to be a bad guy entirely. But I do think the extremely authoritarian/patriarchal original family is something both Lucifer and Amenadiel have grown beyond. And that we’ll see more of that.

Hopefully there will be enough time to develop Maze’s relationship with her mother and/or continue her journey toward finding a partner, since Maze is the third part of this trio of supernatural beings who were caught in perpetual childhood/adolescence and have grown into adults.

I also think Ildy and Joe will use the season as a love letter to the story and fans and everyone, which will involve a more positive tone.

But I don’t think that positive tone will be “false” - there’s a ton of people on Reddit who think the tragic ending of S4 was perfect because tragedy is better than comedy. And, it’s like, er, no?

The story of growing up is a very real thing billions of people engage with. People really do go from obedient child, to questioning teen, to adults who take on responsibilities of care/commitment to others. Sharing burdens and joy. Choosing each other, even when it’s hard. Like, the world is a mess, but there’s a lot of good, kind people trying their best too. And if people didn’t do that creative and hard and beautiful work, BILLIONS OF US, every day, the world wouldn’t have that goodness.

It’s totally cool to tell a myth about that process, its pain and beauty. It’s part of the truth of life and as valid as the tragic parts of life are valid. And I do think that’s what they’re aiming for!

/shrug/ I could be off in my guessing. If they don’t go the general direction I’m expecting I won’t be fussed about it or anything.

But I really think there’s some loveliness ahead, both for deep story reasons, in terms of what they’re trying to say, and just because they’ve had such a wild and beautiful run and they’re going to want to bask in that in their final season.

Place of Birth: funny, he was actually born in Fukuoka. None of his family ever lived there. His parents just kinda happened to be there that day. Everyone thinks this means he was raised there. Nope

Hometown: OK,so "town" doesn't mean the same thing between Japan and America. In Japan towns are a division of wards, which are a division of cities, at least as far as cities go. Rural village is rural village. It's kinda like, if anyone's familiar with Los Angeles, how Compton is a town inside the city of Los Angeles. Anyway, Karakura is a fictional town inside Toukyou. So his hometown would be both Karakura and Toukyou.

Spoken languages: He's actually pretty adept at language. Not quite sure how much I wanna take from my project,which already has a few prequel fic up, but he speaks a few Asian languages and European languages each. He definitely speaks Cantonese, Spanish, French, Punjabi. He has trouble with English because he's just had a lot of crummy JET-type teachers.

Sexual Preference: I'm assuming this actually means "orientation." For that, panromantic grey-ace.

Occupation: Depends when you get him. It's really tempting to give him my career (except Japan has a social safety net,so he'd probably work for the City of Toukyou) because I went into it for the same reasons Ichigo resonates with me. You may get him as a student, though. You may get him with a baby at home being a stay-at-home parent. I'm just gonna say it varies.

I put social issues into my play.

Scared Easily: He's really afraid of failure. He feels as if he has to bear the world, and is afraid of people suffering if he fails. Badly.

Jealous Easily: in romance, he's poly, and is pretty secure about the love in his life. He used to be jealous of the freedom people without power had, but when he lost his, realised it was like losing a leg. Not anymore.

Trustworthy: With everything except being honest about his feelings, or if you rely on him in a bleak situation, he'll make it out to be way better than it is because he feels responsibility to your peace of mind.

Introduction: Unfortunate Partners in Life

Right, I made the introduction chapter for this AU I created called Mindshare and I haven’t written anything in so long! I’ll definitely be expanding on this but for now, everything will be its own story with a slice of their life over the years.

Awareness seeped into his brain. He had finally awakened.

Systems were running as they were supposed to. All knowledge pertaining to the Armada’s history and the current objective was loaded. The file given designated him as a science drone to assist in building technology for the upcoming invasion titled Impending Doom. Red errors popped up in his mind’s eye, but he cast them aside, knowing that starting up always smooths out later. He identified himself as the Irken Zim, ready to serve the Empire and the Almighty Tallest. Zim wanted to make sure he was fully functional and ready for duty, so he took his time to run a diagnostic on his pak. Surely his leaders would want him at full-functioning capacity, and he would not let them down during his first moments of existing.

More warnings were popping up, irritating Zim and causing him to dismiss them all in a rush. He had to hurry and open his optics. The world would not wait for him forever to complete his own internal mission and join the rest in glory.

Muffled voices broke through the fog before the world was abruptly ripped away from him. He screamed to himself in the darkness of his brain, not understanding what had gone wrong. Any attempt to send a distress signal from the pak commands were unresponsive, causing his mind to retreat further into the machinery. For a short while, he could feel the cool metal floor of his smeetery chamber and hear the voices of those that would prepare him for the future. For a little bit, Zim had felt complete. Now, in this prison that housed his consciousness, he didn’t know what to do.

Maybe the armada was testing him? That could have been the answer. The mighty Zim wasn’t going to be decommissioned before proving his own worth! He would wait patiently for them to replug him back into his body and show his Tallest how functional he was. There were a few alerts about intense environmental conditions from the outside, but that was nothing to worry about. The pak was the finest technology in all of Irk. Zim would be safe unt-

Screaming. A horrible pitiful wail tore through the air. Something was terribly wrong. Only one optic nerve seemed to be working. He breathed in a gasp and paused, realizing something else wasn’t making sense. He was taking in air despite irkens not having to truly breathe. The only conclusion he could come up with was that his pak had latched onto the closest object to reawaken itself, which in this case was another life form. His pak must have gotten lost in space and landed on a distant planet.

Usually, this would be a downgrade from his superior self, but Zim saw this as a perfect opportunity to get back to his body using this borrowed vessel. If he was attached to something that was not his own irken flesh, the creature he was stuck to would eventually die off and give him complete control. Strangely, the repair protocols were being activated, feeding themselves into the life-form and repairing strange damage that couldn’t be properly identified. The energy needed being too great caused Zim to fall back into a dormant state.

Eyes blinked open, but everything seemed to be slightly blurred. Against the odds, the creature he was attached to was still alive if not a little broken. It seemed to have it’s own mind intact as well. Impressive for a less superior species. Zim could feel the weight of its presence clinging to him like a filthy growth. The mind was not inside his pak, for only one could be encoded to the machine and was binding for life. With no defenses inhabiting the organic squishy brain of the other organic Zim took a chance and pushed through to take control once more, also hoping the other mind would disappear forever. The brightness swam through eyes not his own. A giant stinky monster in some sort of clothing hovered over him, as tall as the Almighty Tallest and draped in white cloth. His eyes were covered by protective gear and his giant gloved hands reached down to pick Zim up, making him realize the host he was attached to was extremely small.

‘Warm...’ Zim thought in awe as he was able to feel for the first time since he had been plugged in. An echo of the same thought came back.

“Why hello there son! My my, you gave the boys and I such a big scare. Turns out that the device is keeping you nice and stable. No more termination for you today.”

‘Termination? Death? How dare this creature try and dispose of me! It will suffer the wrath of Zim!’

With as much power as he could Zim waved his clawless hand in front of the giant face and hissed menacingly. His strength tired out quickly however and he seemed to be pushed back into the background once again, aware that the vessel he housed had started crying again.

“Uhh sir? Why was your child hissing?”

“Oh, it’s probably nothing. He just recovered from a traumatic experience of near-death after all. There there little Dib, no more crying for tonight.” The creature cooed while attempting to rock the crying alien smeet.

‘Shut your whining you worm creature, your yelling is worse than the sqorchmurfs of planet Brakiclax!’

It cried harder as if to defy him. Oh, the creature would pay dearly when he gets control back. He could feel the pain and confusion seeping through the mental connection, creating a small barrage of half baked thoughts that could barely count as actual words or images.

It was literally a primitive smeet without knowledge or understanding. The blankest slate in the universe. Just great… The pain of the creature's emotions was getting progressively worse, causing Zim to try and console the little creature in hopes of getting it to finally quiet.

‘Um... there there little Dib-thing? Shut up so the big monster will put us down!’

Funny enough, the creature now tagged in his database as 'The Dib' stopped its crying and changed his tone to a soft whimper. After he was hooked back up to the medical equipment for monitoring and the giant creatures left, Zim made sure his host was unconscious again before extending a wire from his pak to plug into the mainframe. He had some learning to do.

Zim tried piloting the tiny legs towards the machine, already imagining many ways to blow up the miserable planet. He discovered the rock was called Earth. It’s natives called ‘humans’ dominated the land with their stink and filth. He figured his pak must have accidentally been misplaced and jettisoned into space, eventually making his way to the far uncharted planet. Even though the earth was not marked for conquering in his database he decided he would take it over and present it as an offering to his Tallest. Even though he was supposed to be a science drone hopefully doing this for his leaders would give him a promotion of joining the Invaders in conquest.

He had overheard with his overly large borrowed ears that the latest machinery the parental unit had created could potentially plunge the world into darkness. Taking over the power would surely ensure that control would be handed to Zim! This would be easier if he waited for the body he was borrowing to grow out of smeethood but there was no time to lose.

The door was big, but nothing his pak legs couldn’t fix. Making sure to not make a sound he crept into the room and prepared to take out the scientists that were hard at work in the lab. Before he could reactivate his legs to engage in attack mode the smeet woke up and started fighting his mind. Not expecting much resistance, Zim prepared his attack again only to have his body sit back down on the cold floor and cross his arms in protest.

‘Give me back control you useless stinky smeet!’

‘No!’

An unexpected reply making him pause in his efforts. The thing had barely been cognitive for weeks. The only exposer it had to the outside world was through the giant humans and through himself… wait…

‘Have you been leaching from me? You’ve been looking at the same resources I have and gathering intel from the mighty ZIM!?’

‘No…’

Well it certainly had a one-track mind, expected of a primitive life form, but ultimately a hindrance.

‘Give me back control and shut down into a sleep cycle for the night you waste of space!’

‘No no no no no no bad no!’

The ultimate temper tantrum resulted in the body rolling along the floor like a sad fleshy ball, which is how the scientists found the smeet later in the night. The pitiful worm-baby had won this round for now.

“No school! Please no school! Noooo!”

Dib cried as he pulled harder from his father’s gloved grip. He had to pretend to be as smart as a normal kid so his dad wouldn’t try and force him into science bonding time. Dib prefered the quiet life of searching the internet for new things to learn. He didn’t need to be near other people so they could make fun of his life support and his silly hair. Sadly his dad didn’t really seem to agree with him sitting in his room all day.

“Now now Dib, you need room to grow and evolve. While your sister is sleeping I need you to unpack the books I got you so you can learn responsibility. I swear the only words you like to say since you’ve started talking are ‘no’ and ‘alien’ and both words are ridiculous in this household. Now hurry up, I have a science demonstration to attend to.”

With that his dad let go of his arm and hurried downstairs, leaving Dib to sulk on his bed. At five years old Dib Membrane had learned a lot about the world. Some of his teachings were through his father when he wasn’t busy. The internet was full of information, especially about strange and unexplained mysteries of the world that science had no real answers for. The last source was a bit more… unreliable and tended to be bad most of the time.

‘Your parental unit is so bossy…’ His inner voice grumbled as Dib started packing up the books into his arm bag. The life support made it impossible to use a normal backpack.

“You mean Dad?"

‘Yes! That’s what I said filthy worm-child!’

Dib rolled his eyes at the comment, noticing at the top left his glasses had a smudge. Another reason he didn’t want to go to school. The internet said people tended to have eye problems later in their life, while he had the luck to need them very early.

“You use big words a lot. Why are you so smart when I’m not?”

‘Ehh…That’s because… I was created with knowledge already programmed. Despite your fast learning capabilities, humans are born with blank slates and squishy matter that need stuff like time and repetition.’

That caused Dib to pause and scratch his head in confusion from the big words being thrown around, making a note to research them later on the internet. He already had a book filled with words the voice tended to throw around, making him want to understand.

“Aren’t you human?”

‘Yes yes! I am definitely a fully functioning monkey-child! I mean I am you but more superior with my technological upgrades… LEAVE ME ALONE!’

The volume inside his head caused him to wince, even though he knew it wasn’t real. It was strange. People don’t usually develop voices in their heads. Maybe the voice was part of his imagination, like an imaginary friend that also worked as a duel personality. He was smarter than most people his age, he knew that fact because his dad’s lab assistants always told him, but he was also a bit strange.

He stopped at the door, with his bag safely hanging from his right arm, hands pressed together in nervousness.

“I’m scared everyone is going to make fun of me. I’m too different. Why can’t I stay home? I learn enough on my own.”

He really didn’t expect the voice to reply back, but surprisingly it did with a bit of hesitation in its voice.

‘Despite how much I’d rather stay within the close confines of accessible technology, I agree with your parental unit when he says you need to grow and evolve. With height comes power, and with knowledge comes privilege to achieve what you must do. Don’t let those smelly man creatures be the boss of you. Beside’s, gathering intel from this wasteland of a planet will be beneficial for upcoming invas- I mean challenges.’

“You’re using too many big words again, but I feel a bit better. I want to find a real monster someday, and I need to learn about the world to get there. I know that much, I think? So…thanks voice. Or uhh… imaginary friend? I don’t really know what to call you. Maybe I should name you?”

‘I am no pet smeetling! You may address me as the Almighty Superior Leader Ruler Overlord and Master Zim!’

With one last roll of his eyes, Dib pushed the door open and made his way downstairs to meet his fate.

“Right, thanks Zim.”

Who cooks:

Mysterio! Although Chameleon is objectively The Superior Cook thanks to the long years of being a servant to picky russian nobility BUT exactly because of that, he really doesnt enjoy it, even less when cooking for others and not just himself. So it is usually Beck who prepares meals (that are not bad either, they are just simpler) but as often as they can, they eat out. That said, Cham is very well aware Quentin loves his cooking so sometimes, he makes them something. (Being sick isnt so bad when it means Chammy bringin you a big bowl of hot borscht :)

On the other hand, Cham has quite a sweet tooth which Q notices Fast and decides to learn how to bake. It took more effort and failed tries than it could have, mostly because he got cocky, how hard could this be and just. kept forgetting he put stuff in the oven.. But now he makes quite delicious cookies n cakes which make Dmitri almost tear up because tasty + Quentin baked something Specifically for him??

Who does the laundry and other chores:

Mysterio’s laundry is usually booby trapped so he has to clean it himself and he doesnt even let Cham near it. And he keeps forgetting gadgets in his civvies. Not to mention that again, for the same servant reason, Cham really doesnt enjoy house chores in general, so he usually just gets his own clothes cleaned somewhere else (especially since his fancy suits and even fancier gowns are the highest quality and delicate materials, he doesnt even Know how to clean them..)

As for the rest of the chores, its pretty balanced, although Cham has more of an eye for things that needs to be cleaned up (and Beck already has cooking duties) so he does a tad more.

How many children do they have + Any pets:

In my Patchwork universe there’s a whole Thing about Leon, the Chameleon of the Ultimate universe but I’ve tried to type up a short summary and failed, it’s a long story lmao ^^;; and anyway he isnt exactly their kid, he is just much younger than them and they ended up sorta mentoring him.

However, they have Celavi, the escaped ex-spy beluga.(Yes, it started as a joke based on this post that accidentally grew more and more serious until @herbofoo and me were too attached to let it go) She counts pretty much as their adopted daughter that they both spoil to hell and back, I mean no surprise, she saved Cham’s life once and sometimes, she helps out with heists. (Mostly for the show, you should have SEEN the look on Spider’s face when a beluga splashed him. He is used to humanoid sharks, to Hydroman.. not like. real life beluga that LAUGHS at him) Beck’s voice: “Dont you dare to insult her, SHE IS PERFECT AND FLAWLESS and A GOODNESS INCARNATE!! -she is literally a deserted russian spy that was trained to gather everything that could be used to harm USA-yea, i have a soft spot for those ;)“

She was always surprisingly clever so she never really counted as a “pet” and at one point, she even bonds with a symbiote (together they are Vague, again long story ah ha). They dont talk but have quite some range of vocalisations so communication isnt a problem.

Who’s more dominant:

They both have pretty dominant strong personalities (ok chameleon’s a bit more complicated with that but like.) with big egos who dont like others questioning their superiority. (Of course not at the level of like Doc Ock etc, they are surprisingly flexible and good team players that can be willing to let someone else take the spotlight if they are Nice) But the whole point of their relationship is that neither of them is dominant over the other, they get enough of that literally everywhere else. It’s very reassuring to be so sure that they are on equal footing, cooperating, no hidden nooses around their neck. Especially in their line of work of course!

(Also, for the other interpretation of this question: anythin remotely sexual happens Pretty Late in the story and both of them are somewhere on the ace spectrum so it doesnt happen that often but they are both verses tho Beck bottoms more)

Favorite nonsexual activity:

MOVIES!! Sprawled on the giant comfy couch, closer than technically needed, cuddling and watching old movies with great special effects and/or great actors! Listening to Beck excitedly rant through the most dramatic speech of the story as he explains how the next cliffhanger is done with hydraulics! Focusing so hard on the stars in his eyes and his excited tone and gestures and just the tone of his voice you forgot to listen to the words themselves! Watching Cham’s face flawlessly mimic the faces on the screen in a blink of an eye and secretly guessing which one will he pick next. Feeling his head slowly fall on your shoulder, eyes closed, his mask smooth but not tense, instead just.. peaceful. Slight ping of annoyance, after all, this is A Classic movie dammit, but it’s gone in a second because Mitya hasnt slept since thursday and you are just relieved he is finally getting his rest. Feeling his warmth under your hand on his shoulders and suddenly never ever wanting to get up again.. EHM. anyway

PLANING HEISTS TOGETHER!! and more or less successfully executing them but planning is actually even more fun aside from the Big Reveals and Entrances which are actually harder to coordinate than one would think!

Lots of shobiz/job talk actually, they really enjoy what they do! Lots of people already mentioned that in their hc compilations but i agree, they love goin to see all kinds of movies and plays and performances as well as acting various scenes with one another!

Their favorite place to be together:

NEW YORK CITY BABEYY. Sure they love to travel and see other countries (and cause mayhem there) but.. they love their mess of a city, it’s never the same without the webhead around as well as the bazillion of other heroes n villains bashin each other’s heads.

Any traditions:

Oh so many pop culture references and inside jokes, oh my god. One time, they spent the entire heist (and its planning period) speaking strictly in famous movie lines and titles, Max and other sixers tried to join but didnt last too long :’D

Beck also has a habit of taking pictures of people with Interesting faces or styles he sees and sends them to Cham. Also another fanon classic: together they have a running game, disguising themselves as moderately famous people and the other guessing who..

Their “song”:

‘This is me’ from the Greatest Showman, i just live for the two of them singin it in Cham’s car,off key but fully immersed and living it.

What they do for each other on holidays:

Neither of them are religious but that doesnt stop Beck from going ALL OUT at any opportunity, Sin Six doesn’t do any heists around holidays because you Know he’d make them dress for the occasion or worse, write them themed lines… They still meet for Christmas and Hanukkah and sometimes other holidays too because this is my AU and you can pry festivities-related shenanigans from my cold, cold hands. It’s always at Beck’s place tho because he can turn his hideout into the tackiest holiday-themed showcase but he aint roping them into it.

On the other hand, Cham despises American commercialized holidays in general and Christmas time especially, since it’s not a big thing in Russia and also once again, he has family issues for days. (Although relatively speaking, he is pretty over these, he is not gonna like mope around or anything)

Anyway, what they do for each other is that they try to compromise, Dmitri doesnt sneer at stupid kitsch decorations every 5 minutes and Quentin ..chills a little. :’D To be fair, Beck makes everything fun and having Cham there makes Beck appreciate the details more instead of just goin into BETTER!BIGGER! frenzy.

Where did they go for their honeymoon:

After the fuckin Ages of pinning, when they finally end up together for realsies, they wanted somethin Big and Flashy! (Well Beck wanted and Cham kinda too but also with the option to merge with the crowd unnoticed and take some chill time) Anyway they went on a whole world wide tour! Starting with a luxury cruise, they took their time, lots of crime sprees to plan and execute, lots of local shows to see, lots of dumb heroes to fool, they’re gonna have it all!

Where did they first meet:

Around the time when Cham and Hammerhead had their criminal empire running Fisk to the ground, Otto decided the Sin Six should team up with them for their ressources needed on one heist or something. They agreed but Cham insisted on actually going in the field, it’s been a while since he really stretched his face legs like this and the mafia life was starting to bore him. Doc made him team up with Mysterio much to the fishbowl’s dismay because why do they need another disguise artist?? He is the Master Of Illusions dammit, he can run circles around this guy, what the fuck Otto?? So at the start, he pouts and fumes under his helmet and in general he is his v unpleasant self but… He can’t help but notice that the new guy is a real professional, he even uses Traditional masks, he likes the same movies… And most importantly, he is actually interested in Mysti’s craft, asking questions and even LISTENING to his long winded answers… At one point he even wondered if that X thing was meant as a HOMMAGE to the Y movie, the Six never did that!! (Usually the rest of the sixers dont know the reference, heathens, and when they do, they mock him for it, that he’s copying ideas and mixin them ridiculously. BUT THIS GUY GETS IT!!) So it doesn’t take long for them to hit it off, of course at this point without any real Trust behind it but it’s a start.

(Though Beck does pay a visit to Otto like, buddy pal i know you’ve been planning on manipulating these crimelords to your end somehow and honestly, any other day i’d be down, i actually had a robot prepared for my own backstab but i was thinking they werent that bad and maybe we Could hold our end of the bargain this time and just. leave each other on good terms? Mabye? Obviously it’s purely out of respect for our teammate Kraven since him and Chameleon seem to have some history, nothing more, definitely nothing to do with how bright Cham’s eyes were when i was showing him the back of my stage… )

What do they fight over:

this whole post has been a mountain of cheese but im bringing more! Honestly, goin through my notes on Patchwork, their biggest arguments have always been about.. the other one not taking proper care of himself :’D Or them lashing out because they were scared and worried about the other and they cant stand being so vulnerable while the other pretends it’s not a big deal because they dont know how to handle genuine concern directed at them.

Do they go on vacations, if so where:

GIVE!!! BECK!!!! HIS!!!! ISLAND!!!!!!They actually do have one, it’s where Celavi spends most of the time and they visit her often. But never for too long, neither of them can actually spend too long doing nothing..

EPISODE 1 - “My Legs Were Not Qwoperating” - Kathy (Part 1)

One world ! 24 other players ! I

I'm too old to be here but... it's happening! I made it on Tumblr Survivor mom! Determined to not be first boot!

Also I'm aligning with Jordan Pines because I love chaos and these newbies won't know what hit them

Well this is certainly something. I'm going to try out seeing who pms me without me saying anything. I'll pick up the activity tomorrow, so it doesn't really affect me, let's see if anyone takes the initiative so I don't have to. If I get dragged into a majority alliance then that's cool. I don't think that this group is great in terms of teamwork as of yet, but we'll see. There's so many tribes our chances of going to tribal are pretty slim, even if we suck. We're kindof underdogs, so sucking might not be excusable.

First day of surviving the Survivor survivorship...survivor. These forms are going to take some time to get used to, but I'll manage. Got conversations from Beck and Sammy so far - might scope the field, see what's out there. Or, I can lay low and do what I need to do for my team until merge hits.

i actually really like the people on my tribe and i'm excited because i have hopes for us. i've also made some nice friends so far and i'm hoping that pays off later but even if it doesn't i'm glad my first day in a skype survivor org has been positive! woo!

Hello! Guess whose back? It me! Anyway, it’s been a fun first night. Things are going okay. I am worried a little bit about the One World mess, I don’t want to come off too social right now but at the same time I need to secure a good place. So here is the breakdown analysis of my tribe: Chris Stoner: hello ???? I didn’t know they let stoners into the Olympics, didn’t we drug test? I haven’t spoken to him much but we did play Crossroads together although not really together. Anyway, fun to see him. Don’t know if I’d work with him but I guess that’s to be determined. Karen: KARENNNNN! I wasn’t expecting to see them here but now that it’s happening I am very glad to have someone who I have worked with before around, and a solid foundation of working together. Right away I felt like I had someone who had my back and I hope I’m not misreading that, because Karen and I always seem to work together until a certain point. Hopefully we can work together longer than usual this time! Kevin: uhhh soooooo love Kevin but we don’t have the best track record? He was in Circle with me we had a little fight where I may have called him a racist for being mad at Asya anyway it SEEMS as though that’s not an issue anymore and I think we might be able to work something out. I don’t wanna have to vote Kevin out before Stoner or Tommy. Tommy: ok no offense to this man but he is so hard to talk to so far. Every conversation feels flat and even though we are talking about subjects I could go on about for a while, it feels like the convos are going nowhere. I feel like there’s a sort of slight bond between Karen, Kevin and I but then Tommy and Stoner are kind of...hopefully who they’d want to kill off first, I’m probably wildly misreading every situation rn. Outside of my tribe I’ve talked to Juls who I am going to take under my wing as my daughter and she will win this season if I don’t get to! I love her so much she reminds me of my old school Skype babies and I feel like a cool mom when I talk to her I’ve also talked to beck briefly, KING love him bc he’s dating Asya and I don’t necessarily want to bond based on that. I also know beck is a good as game player bc I’ve watched him play so......I’m gonna be nice and observant and maybe we can establish a threat/threat symbiotic relationship. I also talked to Jacob C. who I love so much and he and I have been comparing some notes. He’s already told me Sammy has an idol that he can only use for three rounds so heh heh heh. OH SPEAKING OF SAMMY I love that man he’s such a doll and I really hope we can work together if I get far. At this point I love this cast but I really feel like I am not gonna vibe with the newbies, they’re like very....quiet in the PM’s but loud in the one world chat? I find that backwards. I’m hoping the newbies I do like will be able to get rid of the newbies I don’t like so that when we merge the newbies I do like will help me get rid of the returnees I don’t wanna work with. That’s what we are manifesting, 2020 vision yeehaw.

Showmance, eh? I might play dumb, surprise them all later? I could play the role of disposable pawn while possibly orchestrating things behind the shadows. Could be a long, long shot, but it could work.

okay i forgot to talk about strategy lol anyways yeah I looOOOVve everyone on my tribe and that’s great but also sucks because there’s only 5 of us, it just takes 3 votes to send you out so I wish there was some oblivious cocky dick on our tribe we all could hate so we’d have an easy first vote like that guy Billy.. why is he on the respect tribe¿? anyways i love everyone but I think Will and I are becoming the closest we talked for a lil while last night yknow things got a little steamy 🥰😩 (you’ll have to pay for ts all access for that footage 😘) we bonded really well and I think for this first vote if we lose, Will and I are definitely gonna be voting together.

Alright, so here we are at the 2020 Olympics. I came in as a last minute replacement, so I feel like I have to prove myself more than some others who applied weeks before hand and made the cut. As well, got some past players, and past winners, which makes the competition stakes that much greater this season. Then, to top it all off, at the One World style camp, so can talk to everyone which is definitely a nice touch. Now, regards to my tribe, I honestly like the people on my tribe, and find that we're going to be a solid crew. Here is my actual impressions on my tribe mates thus far though: Beck - Probably one I recognize most, just due to being in a discord org vl with her, definitely seems like a friendly gal, and when time is right, I feel she could end up being my closest ally on the tribe Ben - Probably one so far who I have talked the most too, and I feel like we're connecting alright thus far, so going to keep building up a bond with him and his route could end up being as my first ally of these Olympics. Kathy - Haven't spoken one on one with her yet, just in the tribe chat somewhat and main chat, which she definitely seems like a cool person, and hoping to get to know her a bit better, but terms of this game, hard to say if we'll be on same side or not. Bailey - Speaking with her a little, but kind of same lines as Kathy currently with her, just not sure if Bailey will end up being an ally who will be with me, or someone who will be against me. Overall, time will tell how this game goes, but hopefully it goes well for me and I come out with at least something worth while.

okay i’m in a serious predicament... so I may not vote at the next tribal meaning there’s only 4 votes. While looking at the cast reveal i discovered something.. Nik is a drag queen, Eve also does drag as well... what if they applied together from some drag community or are bonding because of that. That’s 2 votes together already on a tribe of five.. that’s dangerous especially when I’m not allied with either of them! If they vote together and i don’t vote... they’d have half the votes already and may get rid of my ally Will! I’m hoping to god they don’t know each other but if they are aligned then Will or I could be out! I want this advantage but i don’t know if i can take it.... fuuUUUUCK

I’m really enjoying my tribe and I think that the people in this game are super awesome! However with that being said, I can definitely see who could potentially be an issue down the line and I’m keeping my eyes peeled for them!

whoa. this game is a lot. I managed to message everyone on day one because I just rely on my social abilities. I tried to be as relatable as possible to everyone but literally some people were dead fish. Some newbies have asked me for advice already and they said returners are intimidating so I said "I mean only the returners that won" hahah and they were like "oh yeah so true" sorry I threw y'all under the bus. But ummm kathy is playing and we are from the same hometown so I am hoping we end up on same tribe sometime soon. I love juls too!! OH AND JACOB IS MY RIDE OR DIE. we had a tribe call and I was so uncomfortable because I felt like I had nothing to add to the conversation. my fav 2 on my tribe are Jacob and Caeleb tho! umm okay last thing I searched for the idol....AND BIH ON DA FIRST TRY I GOT ONE BLSFSI only good for next three tribals I attend tho. This tribe seems to be working fine together, while I'm still terrified of losing, I think we stand a fighting shot. This cool little band of misfits would be a cool sight. I've kept my quiet for the first day, time to ramp things up just a tad. I've talked to Landen and I feel pretty alright about him, and given this tribe is as small as my will to life after playing QWOP, we only need one more! Landen's probably talking to everyone, so I just need to seal the deal with him. I think my challenge performance will suffice for being enough to keep me around, but I need a bit of a backup just in case. If we go to tribal, there's not a "stay UTR" option. It's either I'm in an alliance and I'm calling some shots, or I'm being (in)directly blindsided. But, I picked my strong suit in flash games for a reason fellas. The one world chat has quite a bit of activity. I'm quite and that's fine, if we swap I can readjust. Scooby-Doo "Gritty" Reboot Idea (part 2)

“Gritty” because it’d acknowledge some dark realities (like physical and emotional abuse especially of children, drugs and drug addiction, sex work, violence and death) and would deal with some darker lore. But all while still having goofy and slapstick overtones (a la Season 2 of “Gravity Falls”).

General Plot (with some Lore)

For Season One, they get caught up in investigating some local paranormal reports (maybe Daphne’s home to begin with a la Northwest Mansion Noire? she asks Velma for her expertise, who asks Fred for his help and muscle, who needs to borrow Scooby– for reasons … cat-themed ghost?—who Shaggy reluctantly brings) that all appear to be connected. This causes them to start working together *and* to start hanging out, becoming friends … while also dealing with teenage angst and high school drama. Not every reported event is a scam or a sham; some is actually caused by genuine supernatural/occult events. And most of what is supernatural is caused by two spirits in confrontation with each other, both trying to find “the Blaze”.

It’s eventually discovered Shaggy’s parents didn’t die in an accident; they were collateral damage in an attack by an Old God that was trying to destroy the Blaze. The Blaze, however, hid itself by fusing with 12-year-old Shaggy’s soul … which kept him/them alive through the attack and *could* grant him the Blaze’s great powers (one of the manifestations of that is how he is a Medium capable of seeing and communicating with spirits at all times, not just when they manifest; another of which is his therapy art, which turns out is Seer/Prophetic showing past, present, or future). But this also means Shaggy has a powerful enemy in the spirit world he hasn’t even known about. Also, some of what he suffers psychologically isn’t just his trauma, but the Blaze’s own memories/emotions.

The spirits who cause all the Season One trouble are respectively a servant of the Old God … and one connected to the Blaze (a friend? an ally? a servant? a servant of a friend/ally?). They had both managed to track the Blaze/Shaggy to that town after years and years of searching. The second ultimately fuses with Scooby to protect Shaggy/the Blaze. As a result, Scooby can now speak *and* has some of his own supernatural abilities. Also some memories and warnings— knowledge—to impart … but it all gets muddled in Scooby’s mind, so he can’t make much sense of it anymore. But at least he’s still unquestioningly loyal to Shaggy … Or is he?

Season Two follows them after leaving town to keep Shaggy and Scooby safe (gotta keep moving to avoid the Old God and their minions), ostensibly for a summer road trip to celebrate graduating from high school. This has them following reports of paranormal activity across North American in search of answers … and because it’s fun; they just really like solving these mysteries together.

Part of the group’s overall journey is seeking answers to who Shaggy’s and Scooby’s spirits really are, who the Old God really is, and how they can defeat it so as to protect their friends (also, eventually, having to stop an apocalypse … as one does). Another part of it is a found family narrative, with them all mutually falling in love with each other in one, big polyamorous quartet (with a talking pet dog), realizing they can make their own happiness and don’t need people who can’t appreciate them.

Some Character Arcs:

At some point in Season One, Fred’s father finds out about him “dressing like a girl and doing other gross, fag shit”, and disowns him. This makes Fred technically homeless for a bit, living out of his van, but his friends (and especially Shaggy’s aunts) give him a safe place to stay while he finishes his last year of high school. Fred will, after that, grapple with simultaneous rage at his father (never wanting to see him again, never wanting to forgive him) *and* a longing for things to go back to the way they were (because he still loves and misses his father). Very complicated, bitter feelings … He’ll eventually decide that, maybe in the future he might reach out, but for now he doesn’t owe his father shit, this is all his father’s fault, and he doesn’t need him because he’s got his friends.

Throughout the whole series, Shaggy is grappling with the question of who he really is now: Shaggy, the Blaze, both, neither? Is he still human? Is he a monster? Some sort of demi-god? Also, his relationship with Scooby has fundamentally changed, and they have to renegotiate that now that Scooby is, likewise, more than just a dog. For the record, though, Scooby is very much having a similar difficulty. How does he move forward knowing that both aspects of his identity (Scooby and the spirit) have been irreparably transformed by blending together as they have? How does he be himself when there isn’t a pure self anymore?

At some point in Season Two, Daphne has a crisis of christian faith after experiencing a lot of stuff that blatantly contradicts what she’s been taught in Sunday School and by her parents. It never fully gets resolved, but she grows thanks to realizing that she doesn’t have all the answers, that society and morality are constructs but her newer definitions of Good are still worth fighting for. In Season Three, her parents will threaten to pull her allowance if she doesn’t come home and be a well-behaved girl, but she’ll call their bluff by threatening to reveal a lot of the family’s dirty secrets if they do. Standing up for herself and her friends and keeping the income flowing through a little extortion (yay!). Although after that, they’ll look to make Mystery Inc. more of a self-sustaining business (just in case), which will be a major milestone.

At some point in Season Two, Velma’s need for approval from authority figures will nearly lead to her being taken advantage of in a bad way (sexual?). However, she’ll escape (in part on her own skills— cleverness and brujeria—in part by getting help from her friends), learning that she isn’t as helpless as she’s sometimes felt, that she can indeed take care of herself … But also learning that getting help from the people who care about her doesn’t mean she’s helpless (communal living means giving what she can give to others *AND* receiving what she needs from others, too– different but equally valuable contributions); plus, it’s just a smart strategy. Also she learns the opinions of some people are just plain worthless. In Season Three, her research into brujeria will probably start getting her into trouble as she begins to put too much trust in both academic sources and patron spirits (kinda the same issue appearing in a different form, really, which will make her feel like an idiot for a bit). From that, though, she’ll learn to think critically not just about authority figures (people), but also about “authoritative” sources of information (made by people).

Some Character Dynamics:

Fred and Daphne bond over burgeoning identities of genderfluidity, with her helping him to develop a flashier appearance in general (including helping him try drag a couple times) and him helping her to learn some of those combat sports she’s always wanted to try. They also bond over how much it sucked to have domineering parents who loved the idea of a perfect child more than their actual child. Both learn together to be more open emotionally, more confident in who they really are (not defined by their parents’ expectations for them).

Velma and Shaggy bond over being closet geeks for Pokémon and other similar stuff like Sci-Fi movie series (which, with typical teenage cynicism, is regarded as cringey by most of their peers); turns out, they both secretly write fanfic, and can beta read for each other. They also bond over being nerds who finally have someone to whom they can infodump about their interests, someone who actually listens patiently without making them feel self-conscious and weird—without triggering anxiety. Both learn together to be more confident in who they really are, too, and to care less about what others think of them.

Shaggy and Daphne bond over terrible puns and dank memes. They are both just the worst when it comes to those. Besides, they both find them to be surprisingly effective ways of expressing their complex emotions, be they positive or negative. It also helps both of them to be more emotionally open (a thing they all learn together, frankly).

Fred and Shaggy bond over what it’s like to miss a parent (Fred’s mom, Shaggy’s parents) and how hard it is to put into words. Sorrow and melancholy because they’re gone, anger and resentment because they left them behind, guilt because of these other feelings … also guilt that it somehow should’ve been them— that those left behind (Fred’s dad, Shaggy’s aunt) somehow blame them. This lets Fred learn that showing emotions isn’t “weak” while teaching Shaggy that he’s not alone in how he feels.

Daphne and Velma bond over interests in history (also frustrations at how whitewashed and man-washed the narratives of it have been). Turns out, they’re absolute nerds for various points/periods of World history in general and North American history specifically (all of which will turn out to be relevant to individual episodes), and they can collaborate about how those points connect and influence each other and their cases.

Velma and Fred bond over being working class and poor, and how weird it is to suddenly have two people who are pretty wealthy (for all intents and purposes) taking care of their financial needs. It feels like a relief, on the one hand, but also makes them feel insecure on the other. Like they don’t deserve it and are being a burden, like they need to find ways to pay the others back so as to square the debt and remain “independent”. Together, they learn, however, that worth isn’t determined by money— they learn that it’s okay to let someone else take care of bills (during this whole communal living thing) and that they contribute in different but equally worthwhile ways (communal living, again) … Yet also how to communicate this tricky issue (and how it relates, rightly or wrongly, to their self-esteem) amongst all four of them.

Fred learns a lot about women and PofC issues and grows from it. At first, he’s disbelieving and defensive (“not all men” sorta guy), but he learns to listen and ask respectful questions (“I don’t understand. Don’t all lives matter? So why’s the movement just *Black* lives matter?”), to think about what he’s learned (“Privilege means … there’s something that doesn’t make my social life difficult, but does for others. Like skin color, no one treats me bad for mine but they do to PofC. Or like class, Daphne doesn’t have to worry about money, but I do. Right?”), and to integrate it into his own behavior (“Wait, am I mansplaining? Sorry, I’ll stop.”). He’s kinda innocently naïf and ignorant about these, but learns and become more sensitive.

Same for Daphne vis-à-vis socio-economic class and religion. She takes money for granted, thus doesn’t understand why it’s such an obstacle or a motivator for most people (“It’s only $50, what’s the big deal?” or “Why not simply buy the land? Why go to all this trouble to scare people away?”). And much of her life was Jesus-this and Jesus-that, so she’s never really understood that other religions and philosophies are actually a real thing until being with the others (Shaggy is Buddhist, Fred is atheist, and Velma’s grandmother did folk brujeria while her father is Jewish).

They all learn a lot about queer issues and identities in general (especially from Shaggy), which allows them to develop their own in a healthy way (Fred and Daphne as genderfluid and bi/pan, Velma and Shaggy as demi and bi/pan … all of them as poly). With a bunch of kinks and fetishes along the way, maybe.

Shaggy learns a lot about the supernatural. He was *never* interested in the subject (in fact, he always kinda hated it because it terrified him … perhaps instinctively because the Blaze was within him), but the others were fascinated by it. So exposition on these matters is made to him for the audience’s sake.

So I saw Endgame! [spoilers]

To save your feed from nasty spoilers, here's a cut!

Overall, this movie was half-epic awesome and half...well, not.

The Good!

+As always, it was so great to see all of our favorite Avengers interacting and working together, especially at the end. Nebula and Tony playing games in space -- Natasha's friendships with Steve and Clint -- Scott fawning over Steve -- Tony and Steve teaming up to get the tesseract and more of Hank Pym's formula -- Nebula connecting with her past self and Gamora -- PETER REUNUTING WITH HIS PAPA TONY -- these characters and their bonds are what make all of these movies. There are a few I feel that got a bit overlooked, but to be fair, there are so, so many that it's not hard to see why not all of them could be in the spotlight.

+All of the action was well-choreographed and executed. It never felt one-note and it never dragged, at least for me.

+STEVE USING MJOLNIR, HELLZ YES. I cheered like an idiot when that happened.

+Even though I saw it coming, Tony's sacrifice was still well-written and not only fit his character but also the story. RDJ couldn't have asked for a better exit from the Marvel film franchise.

+Scott's reappearance after five years was great too! His reunion with Cassie got me kind of emotional -- such a proud daddy!

+As much as I do have problems with Steve's ending (which I'll come back to), I liked that it saluted the Falcon taking over the mantle of Captain America as he does in the comics.

+That whole bit with all of the ladies charging in after Captain Marvel -- total girl power, man!

+Tony and his daughter Morgan's interactions made me laugh -- who knew Tony could be such a good daddy? I always support good daddies. (And "I love you 3000"? My heart.)

+Thanos accessing Nebula's memories and thoughts because the technology in both her past and future selves are on the same network was actually kind of clever, and I loved how Gamora decided to fight with future!Nebula for the hope that they could really be sisters like she claims.

+All of the comments about Steve's ass made me laugh so hard. Looks like it's canon now, guys: Tony has given Steve's ass and what flatters it notable attention.

+Hey, Carol. Nice haircut. ❤️

The Not-So-Good...

+I must admit, half the reason I dreaded seeing this movie as well as Infinity War was that I knew that any deaths in Infinity War would inevitably be completely undone in Endgame, effectively canceling out any fatal stakes you could assign to the Cinematic Universe. It's something I hate about Marvel and DC comics, that in their long history, there are so many ways to bring characters back from the dead that you either don't believe they're actually dead or are left wondering why they're still dead. At least in Harry Potter, Harry surviving the Killing Curse (both times) was a fluke -- something that only came about by extreme chance that most people wouldn't have, something that could only have happened to Harry. That makes it so we still feel something when people die, and therefore care about what's going to happen. But yeah, sure enough, all the deaths in Infinity War basically get undone, thanks to some time travel and magic stones. It unfortunately almost had to be like this, if this story was going to be told, but that doesn't change the fact that I don't like that aspect of the story. This invalidation of stakes wouldn't hurt as much if this was the last film Marvel ever made, but really, with how much money Marvel could make with the remaining cast of characters, I sort of doubt that.

+The filmmakers try to give some logical explanation to the time travel thing, but in the end, thanks to Steve's decision (which I'll get into), it's kind of thrown into question again. The idea was that they wouldn't be able to change the future by going back in time...and yet I can't see Steve not trying to do anything to hinder Bucky's suffering in the past, if he was back there. Yes, maybe it wouldn't change future!Bucky, but it would still be his best friend. And Steve's return to civilian life in the past would surely influence some things, wouldn't it? Wouldn't him living a life back then involve him getting a job, earning accolades for his past service, making friends, having children...anything? The alternate universe scenario proposed by the Ancient One would inevitably have to happen if Steve stayed behind, which was the whole reason he supposedly went back to put the stones where they were in the first place!!

+Okay, and now finally what I've been leading up to...Steve. As appropriate as Tony's ending was, Steve's was just as inappropriate in my mind. Steve not only had gotten over Peggy in previous films, where he got to speak with her as an old woman and make peace with the life they never got to have, but Steve was actively moving on. He had been dating Sharon Carter. He had developed close friendships with the other Avengers. He had an entire scene where he preached to others the value of dealing with grief productively and growing despite it...only to run back to the past as soon as he got the chance? And this isn't even touching how terrible of a friend this makes Steve, leaving Bucky behind and not even bothering to talk to him about what he was doing. Steve barely even spoke to Bucky in this movie: even after Bucky came back from the dead, Steve never had a proper reaction. They never fought side by side, exchanged affectionate one-liners, hugged, nothing. And this is Bucky we're talking about, the guy who Steve let beat him within an inch of his life -- who Steve protected from Tony -- who Steve openly and painfully grieved during Infinity War. And Bucky not only is left out in the cold by Steve, but Bucky thinks the Falcon should be the sole person to talk to him after his decision becomes clear. Bucky should have confronted Steve. He should have been angry. He should've asked why Steve didn't ask him to come too, didn't ask if he wanted to. Bucky deserved a happy life just as much as Steve did, after all the horrible things they went through. Why did Steve deserve to go back in time and live happily, and not Bucky? Why was Steve okay with the fact that he wouldn't see his best friend for decades? Why was Steve comfortable with the thought that Bucky would have to watch his best friend die of old age not long after just fighting side by side with him? Not only does this ending break Steve's character, but it doesn't match his arc at all. He was adapting well to the present -- he was growing, he was evolving. And yet his ending ended up being running back to when things were simpler, running back to the past like a coward instead of embracing the future. FUCK. THAT.

+I really didn't care for either Clint or Thor's development in the five year time jump. For Clint, as much as I like the parallels the script made between him and Natasha in regards to the awful things they've done, I still have difficulty seeing someone who was so devoted to S.H.I.E.L.D. being a ruthless, lawless, out-of-control assassin, even if he did lose his whole family. But Thor's characterization was so much worse. Thor has always been funny in the movies, as are a lot of the characters, but something I always loved about him in the series was how he balanced humor, sincere emotions and being a total bad ass. In this film...yeah, he's almost entirely there for laughs. He had a few bad-ass moments, but he didn't get the chance for much sincere pathos, when he kind of deserved some. The loss of Loki and how Thor dealt with it is never really addressed after the five-year time jump. Loki in general actually doesn't get addressed after he gets the tesseract either -- that almost inevitably will have to be a spin-off, but...hey, yeah, if Loki's still unaccounted for, then Bruce's promise to not let any alternate timelines pop up is already going to be broken, isn't it? The God of Mischief has a hold of the tesseract.

+As much as I liked the thought of Bruce being able to balance out the two sides of himself, I preferred the execution from what little I've seen of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, where Hulk is the dominant personality but listens to Bruce more often and is therefore smarter than he was previously. In this version Bruce almost seems out of touch with his Hulk side when he tries to fight at first, even if he's now green all the time. It's just less entertaining, and seeing how Bruce evolved to the point where Banner and Hulk are interacting peacefully could've been an interesting thing to show over the course of several movies rather than something just alluded to after a time jump.

+Does everyone's vision of retirement involve moving out to a farm? Like, seriously, both Thanos and Tony do this. Thanos is almost comical, but Tony's just doesn't make sense to me. He just dropped his whole company, all of his weapons, protecting the world, everything?? Tony is a total control freak who became a superhero because other people were using his tech in a way he didn't approve of, yet he leaves his company and tech presumably in someone else's hands to raise his daughter out in the country? That just seems kind of unlike Tony.

So yeah, this film definitely is feels-worthy! I can see why there are so many strong reactions to it. It was a rather fun ride a lot of the time, but I admit, as an ending for quite a few of these characters, it wasn't all it could've been, in my opinion. Not a terrible way to end the Marvel Cinematic Universe's long run, but it's not an ending I'll have much fun revisiting. Once is more than enough.
