Te Ara Whakamārama or The Pathway to Enlightenment By Conny Huaki and Graeme Smith The journey of creation, from the first seed of an idea to its full expression, is a sacred and transformative process. “Te Ara Whakamārama,” or “The Pathway to Enlightenment,” is a design and development framework that mirrors the natural progression from dusk till dawn, a symbolic representation of the journey…

I have define my specific methodology, which is the triple diamond method. I have map the stages of methodology to a timeline with a brief explanation why the methodology I have chosen is appropriate for my project. I have indicated key milestones and sub-phases across the remaining weeks of the semester.

Do you need to build a static website for fun or profit?
Try the Simple.css Framework. It is a CSS framework that makes semantic HTML look good.
A good-looking sans-serif local font stack.
Typographic best practices.
Automagic flipping to dark mode.
Fully responsive.
Sensible defaults that format standard + HTML elements.
Super lightweight (10k css).
Give it a try @ https://simplecss.org/ (my home page https://vivekgite.com for live demo).

every time someone mentions the way music-related algorithms work in the best interests of major labels pushing their artists for their own gain and therefore are often embedded with bias and cut off new avenues of discovery everyone comes out of the woodwork to mention "well, anecdotally to my specific circumstance, I've discovered (5) new artists with sub-one thousand regular listeners completely detached from any information or scene or cohesive idea of taste on my weekly currated playlists so therefore algorithms actually work amazing" like what are you talking about. can we be serious please.

started watching Lucifer because I like to have a few different shows in rotation (I knew nothing about Lucifer so imagine my surprise when I discovered that I was taking a break from my crime procedural about a hypersexual british weirdo with daddy issues who consults for the american police by watching... yeah)
but this show is really frustrating to watch because it feels like it's constantly holding itself back from its own potential. every once in a while they do a scene or even a whole episode really well and you see a glimpse of what the show could be. sometimes there are single shots where I'm like "wait that was good" but they always pull back into their safe quirky crime show box. they've got The Literal Devil as a protagonist and when they actually remember to do things with that from either a narrative or characterization standpoint it's great, but about 70% of the time it feels like they're trying to be another Elementary for some reason, which is... and odd choice and a terrible mistake because you really don't want to ape another show's gimmick closely enough for comparison unless you can actually pull it off and Lucifer cannot pull it off. there's also this odd sense that they're trying to somehow write a character whose main strength is his unique understanding of how humans work, and whose primary quirk is his inability to understand how humans work.
also the classic "the bisexual woman character is only bisexual on screen when it's hot and the bisexual man character is only bisexual at all when we need a punchline" thing is pretty severe in this one. which is kind of insane because I can't think of a context in which it would make more sense to play up a bisexual character even if you're only doing it to shock your straight audience. it's. the protagonist is The Devil. and you're being cowards about it.
I don't want to say I expected more because I was not expecting it to be good in the first place, I just thought it would be bad in a less milquetoast way.
I'm still watching it because 1. I need something less good than Elementary to have on while I'm doing art/modding, and 2. I have to know if it will ever get over its identity crisis and turn into a good show.
anyway this has been "unprompted rants about decade-old shows with tearless" tune in next time when I finally get around to watching hannibal probably.

#I'm still waiting for the formal offer letter but let me tell you how i got this job#a hiring manager reached out to me on LinkedIn asking if I'd be interested in the team he's building#so i was like yeah I'll throw my hat in#i had an easy coding screen with him (valid palindrome lol)#then i had a screen with another manager around QA practices#then i went through four more interviews as part of a 'final loop'#one was a more difficult coding question. one was design a test framework. one was QA-behavorial#and the other was communication + collab behavorial#each of those six interviews was a 45 minute video call btw#this all took like. three months lmfao#then a week after that i heard back that they didn't want me for that role#but that one of the guys i interviewed with is a hiring manager on an adjacent team and he really liked me#when i looked back at my notes sure enough that guy is the one who ended our call with 'i hope i get to work with you!' lol#so they wanted to put me for this other slightly less technical role#and i was like yeah sure why not i liked that guy too lol#so the next day i had one final interview with a senior leader asking about my priorization and conflict resolution skills#which makes sense since this is a more cross-functional communication role with lots of talking to developers#and that guy was awesome and definitely someone I'd work for#so a few days later i got the verbal offer!#i will also add that during all of this i also went to the final stage for a different team at the same company#but was plain out rejected from that one lol#plus i did beginning screens for two other roles as well and didnt make it as far#all this to say i did like... over a dozen interviews with this company since October lol#and i studied like CRAZY. i spent hours on leetcode and hours putting together stories from my experience#i worked very very very hard and it finally fucking paid off!!!!!#back in october i said to my wife 'i want to get a job at (company). i think that will be my goal now.'#and she was like lol ok. but i kept getting interviews and studying for them#working harder than i ever did in college even lmao. and she was like oh wait you're really serious#and then she helped me sooooo much by taking care of the kids while i studied and stuff like that#but yeah i did it. i put my mind to it and i fucking did it!!!!!

What's Masks?
love languages don't exist but if they did this exact question would be mine
Masks is a rules lite ttrpg that recreates the "Teenage superhero" genre, stuff like Teen Titans and... uh. Spiderverse? I'm gonna level it's not my favorite genre, which says a lot about how good the game is that I still adore it more than anything else.
It's easily, easily my favorite ttrpg of all time, and it's extremely obvious how much it has influenced the way I approach ttrpgs and the way I write my own games. Every part of the core systems is so fucking smart. The way your stats are in flux as your identity shifts and you grow as a character, the way that the Moment of Truth system literally lets you hijack control of the narrative away from the GM, the way that every character has a natural timer until they have to become an adult and leave the narrative - it genuinely just Works. I adore this game with all my heart.

maybachstraße // köln neustadt nord
for me, the railway bridge over maybachstrasse is always a rich and inspiring source in terms of different lighting situations. i hope that it will be preserved with its columns and clinker walls for a long time to come and not fall victim to redevelopment as a boring concrete monolith.

i think that some peoples' reaction to that person's post about addiction/recognizing problematic substance use was really disproportionate, not least bc the op was informed about/by disability justice principles and outwardly advocated/advocates for autonomy for all people, pwud included. the fact that people find addiction - physical/behavioral dependance - a useful shorthand for a constellation of e/affects that can cause long-term distress does not equate to an unproblematized acceptance of pathologizing frameworks of nonnormative behavior. op identifies as an addict themself, and i think we as Madppl just have a lot to reckon with as far as whose lived experiences & perspectives are valued versus dismissed, whose are taken in bad vs. good faith.

I have been doing A LOT on this project
I finished the pages related to seasons/expansions. I have finished the lore book page and all the sub pages for them.
ALSO
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are a lot of things I need to do to make it faster and more efficient. But that can wait until after all the pages and functionality is in place.
I need to finish the home page (no idea on that yet.) The archive pages for lore entries and grimoire cards. Fixing/updating the search page. A FAQ page and a sitemap. THEN it will be time for error checkers and stuff.
(I have no idea on how to make the searching faster and to find more entries unless I make a tag system. Which will have to be manually done most likely)
Also also,
I have been making a guide for accessing the Bungie API that might help new coders.

Environment design: mental framework for designing buildings
A building isn’t born from blocks. It’s born from attention.
For a long time, I struggled to draw cities. No matter what thumbnails I sketched, they didn't feel right. They felt boring and soulless. Until I decided to treat each part of the scene with care. I rushed, quick to iterate my thumbnails. I thought the more I iterate, the bigger the chance to find the layout I liked, that something would click. But the issue wasn't the layout - it was the soul. I drew boxes, but they felt empty and weird.
Out of desperation I decided to draw some buildings separate. Frontal. I didn't know what to do, so I stayed longer on one building — added shapes, cut shapes. Varied the size of shapes. Doors, windows, columns, patterns... Until I realised — this finally felt right. It transformed from a soulless box into a beautiful building.
Tumblr media
I noticed the result. I stopped. I reflected — how did I feel during the process? I didn't rush. I tended this one thumbnail with care — like I had all the time in the world to care about it until it becomes beautiful, like it has a soul — and it got one.
The problem wasn't the layout. I can't create a scene that feels like something with big shapes alone, even if I try to make them interesting. Generally, city street layouts are pretty boring — streets are just straight. Buildings are just boxes. Sometimes shaped more interesting than streets, but still boxes. The detail is what makes the scenes feel alive — not the layout.
Intended outcome feeling:
Sci-fi + Hawaiian. Eerie symmetry and order. A city that feels "too clean".
Technical skills applied in this path:
Perspective (behind the scenes, for composition thumbnails. Not that important for designing buildings if you do it in frontal).
Shape language
Color psychology
Color contrast
Value contrast
Composition in design (focal point = most contrast)
Big, medium and small shapes
Scale indicators (the little human figure at the sides of the buildings so you can imagine how big the building is)
If you’ve ever felt like your environments were hollow, maybe they’re not empty. Maybe they’re just waiting to be seen.

like somewhere in me the wires between 'excitement' and 'dread' got mixed up and now they feel exactly the same and i cant enjoy stuff without taking a dozen steps to reassure myself that something bad is NOT happening and it's all fine we're just going to the movie theater to have a popped corn and see a big screen. it's ridiculous. it's outrageous. it's unconscionable
