I love the way that fandoms work (especially in books) how I can discover something that came out 10 years ago (but is brand new to me) & fall into an entire world, full of fans (from its first debut to brand new members like myself). I can enjoy years of content in minutes, or enjoy minutes of content for years. And even when the “new-ness” of a series ends I can always fall back into an old favorite again & again; still finding new & old friends to obsess over it with. — Fandoms develop a life of their own & the love of stories that exceeds time; I just think that’s pretty magical in itself to watch.

“Why don't they want me to see what I already know now—that the world is broken.” ― Veera Hiranandani, The Night Diary
A hopeful and heartwarming story about finding joy after hardship, Amil and the After is a companion to the beloved and award-winning Newbery Honor novel The Night Diary, by acclaimed author Veera Hiranandani
At the turn of the new year in 1948, Amil and his family are trying to make a home in India, now independent of British rule.
Half-Muslim, half-Hindu, twelve-year-old Amil is not sure what home means anymore. The memory of the long and difficult journey from their hometown in what is now Pakistan lives with him. And despite having an apartment in Bombay to live in and a school to attend, life in India feels uncertain.
Nisha, his twin sister, suggests that Amil begin to tell his story through drawings meant for their mother, who died when they were just babies. Through Amil, readers witness the unwavering spirit of a young boy trying to make sense of a chaotic world, and find hope for himself and a newly reborn nation.

looking into reading the final reflection because it's cited as a big influence on the depiction of klingons in star trek from tng onward for looking past the warrior stereotype and fleshes them out really well and look at this.

Giggling kicking my feet at John Adams' first letter to Abigail Smith (later Adams) 😂😍
Figured I'd give my poor brain a break from fanfiction and read something perhaps more beneficial to my mental faculties, but then he's out here addressing his letters to "Miss Adorable" and formally requesting kisses as if he's placing an order for goods from a merchant 😂😂
I will settle for nothing less than a man that considers me his "dearest friend" BTW. I stand by that. That's a fact.

There are five book series that I read back in elementary which shaped me into the book nerd I am today.
Dork diaries
A series of unfortunate events
Wings of fire (this has to be the reason I got into GRRM)
Warrior cats
Diary of a wimpy kid
Would read so much back in the day, devouring these books like they were nothing.

November Reading List #1
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
This haul was a complete impulse buy and I don’t regret it.
I adore small pocket books, one of my all-time wishlist items is a leather pocket version of the LOTR and the Hobbit altogether.
Also, I really need to step up my classical reading skills which were pretty discouraging these past years.
This little book fits my small hand perfectly, and it has a hard cover which is just perfect. It also has a fabric bookmark which matches the pale blue colour of the dust cover, and! the hard cover, it has illustrations and gold sprayed edges.
I mean I want to open a shop where I re-print all my favourite books in this manner. Heaven, paradise, parallel universes unite!
If you are interested about the whole list of what I have read in November follow the link below:

How to Pursue a Princess by Karen Hawkins | Book Review
Title: How to Pursue a PrincessAuthor: Karen HawkinsSeries: The Duchess DiariesIssue: 2 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 3.5 out of 5. Rating: 3.5 I was angry with the duchess. She was annoying but the rest of the characters made up for it.Alright, so I didn’t like the Duchess of Roxburghe because she was nosy and thought the exact opposite of what she was saying. Case and point her claims of not intruding and…

December 15, 2016 - [video blog]
youtube
Along with doing an audio blog on my SoundCloud and two digital blogs on blogspot and Live Journal, I also did a video blog that I would record on my point and shoot and post privately to my YouTube. When I discuss journaling with the kids or friends I let them know there isn't one way to do it. You can speak your thoughts aloud or write them down. The thing that is very different about this video journal is I can clearly see I am having a depressive moment. Just the looking off in the distance and totally disconnecting I wish were acting, but was just how I was feeling, having trouble staying rooted in the present.
It was good to hear that I was in therapy at the time, more than likely Ms. Kennedy who was my last therapist of record. I have been doing so much better since this time, but am happy to see this moment from eight year ago. BTW I look amazing, so its great that even though I felt like crap I looked great! At the time I would record the videos post them and walk away, this is my first time actually looking back and viewing the content of the video. I actually changed it from private to unlisted just to share it here. I think I did about forty or so of these videos and I do think they were an excellent way to collect my thoughts and gage my emotional state. I think mental health is very important and whatever you have to do to healthily navigate these rough moments you should do.

One of VtM's most prominent characters is an eminent and adventurous scholar sometimes referred to as 'Indiana Jones with fangs', who sometimes goes feral and wolfs out.
He fucks Dracula.
(Dracula exists, and also has a first-edition copy of the novel, signed by Bram Stoker.)
In the process of getting dicked down by Dracula, he accidentally disproves a major tenant of vampire religion going back over ten thousand years.
King shit, really.
I always find it a shame that people assume Vampire: The Masquerade has to be a serious, gritty game and ignore the huge amounts of absolutely batshit stuff in that setting.
Al capone is a vampire, as was Rasputin. At one point in the middle ages there was a bloodline of secret vatican vampire necromancers working for the inquisition. There's a malkavian combo-discipline to turn into a scary clown. There are multiple versions of "the fleshcrafting discipline is actually a mind-controlling disease from space." Lasombra pirates in nuclear submarines. There is an evil ttrpg company that infects you with evil spirits if you play their games.
Not stupid enough for you? There is a Banu Haqim pro-wrestling tag-team duo called 2Hot Nation of Harlem Ghetto Posse Gangsta Experience.
Vampire is an extremely silly game at times.

WOTN: Network Effect by Martha Wells
Murderbot Is On The Move in Network Effect Network Effect is the first full-length novel to come from the world of the Murderbot Diaries. Martha Wells wrote this series following a rogue SecUnit – a partially organic bot designed for protection (and more). Murderbot has four novellas following their adventures, which is why fans (myself included) were so excited to see them getting a full novel…

Book Review: Stewart Copeland "The Police Diaries"
I guess I can call this my Year of The Police. In July I got to see Police guitarist Andy Summers live and he later shared my concert review on his social media. Then in September I got to see Police singer / bassist Sting in concert. My joke was that I needed to see Police drummer Stewart Copeland live before the end of the year and I will have seen The Police in 2023. Sadly Mr. Copeland is not performing near me. But the next best thing is that I got to review his new book Stewart Copeland's The Police Diaries which is being released this week.
Tumblr media
book cover and case
Copeland was the only American in the U.K. trio, but they were very much a personality band with every member playing an integral role in their sound. They were truly bigger than the sum of their parts. While it’s true that Sting was the main songwriter, singer and bassist, the entire trio were top-of-their-game musicians: Copeland was incredible (just try to not air-drum to “Next to You”) and their guitarist Andy Summers was a secret weapon in the band. For a group that incorporated various genres including punk, reggae, pop, new wave, jazz, and rock it takes a certain level of musicianship to rise to that sound and all of them certainly did. The band only put out 5 albums in less than 10 years before calling it quits. I’m kind of kicking myself for not seeing their 2007 reunion tour. Copeland is considered by many to be one of the 10 best drummers of all time. After The Police's 1986 break-up, Copeland became a go-to soundtrack composer for film and TV (that's his theme song on the Star Wars: Droids cartoon!). He has also collaborated with a ton of musicians including Peter Gabriel and Ricky Kej. But he is also a very creative force in other ways, such as his documentary Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out (made out of his super 8 footage while in The Police) and his 2009 book Strange Things Happen: A Life with The Police, Polo and Pygmies. Now he is releasing a book of his own personal diaries he kept from 1976 to 1979, along with some unseen photos. For context, The Police formed in 1977. Their debut album Outlandos d'Amour was released in 1978 followed by Reggatta de Blanc in 1979. This was the very moment that the band took the world by storm with their combination of reggae and punk, but in a melodic pop sound.

The Police: Andy Summers, Sting and Copeland circa 1978
In this book, Copeland shows his own personal diaries of those early years. Fans of The Police are going to devour this, but even from an archival standpoint, this is impressive in that you are seeing his daily planner, photos, flyers, etc. Some of Copeland's photos are museum-worthy. If you saw Copeland's Everyone Stares doc, you know he was constantly shooting super 8 and taking pictures. That lends itself to his own POV of what was happening, as opposed to some biographer piecing together the band's appearances on TV, in magazines, etc. At times, this definitely borders on For Fans Only, but I say stay with it because you are also getting a deep dive into the London music scene of that era with what was happening with the punk explosion too. Copeland truly rocks and this is worth checking out!

ೃ࿔:・ popular!reader finds nerd!rafe’s journal
Tumblr media
class ends with the clicks of a computers and the zipper of bags. you’re halfway out the door, lipgloss glinting under fluorescent lights, when something thuds to the floor behind you. a journal—cheap spiral-bound, cover decorated with pressed stickers and absentminded doodles.
“isn’t that cameron’s?” harper whispers behind you, her tone sharp with entertainment. “god, it’s his little diary. how sweet.” she pouts with a faux frown, her eyes glittering with anything but pity.
stacy giggles, “i almost feel bad for him. someone should grab it before he starts crying.” she chews her gum, popping a large, pink bubble.
you roll your eyes but your fingers are already curling around the cover. you’re not sure if it’s pity or power that possesses you to pick it up, but it may just be the way he looks at you. like you’re the sun and he’s a planet feasting off of your light.
you crack the journal open. the back of it facing your friends, shielding them from his deepest secrets…and jesus.
pages and pages. sketches of you biting your lip. of your thighs in that tennis skirt. of your bare back, your bra strap slipping off your shoulder. of you bent over a desk, mouth parted, lashes low.
you flip another page and almost gasp at the writing.
i’d ruin her. i’d kiss her like i was starving. i’d let her call me pathetic if she sat on my face while doing it. i wouldn’t even care.
your fingers are suddenly too warm, heartbeat clicking up a notch. you slam the journal shut.
“what’s it say?” harper asks, fingertips reaching to grab the book. you snatch it away, hoping they don’t notice your flushed cheeks.
“n-nothing,” you say too fast, voice an octave higher. your friends raise their brows. “it’s just school notes. nothing exciting.”
they huff and roll their eyes, muttering things about how weird he is. the conversation changes onto stacy’s new boyfriend within seconds. like rafe doesn’t exist, like you aren’t holding a journal full of nude drawings and fantasies of you.
~
you find him in the library after sunset, hunched over a laptop with his knee bouncing like a jackhammer. “hey,” your voice is sickly sweet. you’re clad in a mini skirt and an off the shoulder sweater. little did you know, rafe’s had many daydreams of ripping that same sweater in half.
he jerks up, eyes wide, and glasses slightly askew. his cock stirs in his pants. then he sees what you’re holding—the same notebook he’s spilled his every dream about you into. the color drains from his face. “i, uh-” he fumbles, hand shooting out, “shit, that’s not-i didn’t mean for anyone to-”
“i read it,” you say, soft, not cruel, not mocking, just honest. his lips part and he looks like he might pass out. you lean in, close enough he can smell your strawberry shampoo and feel the brush of your breath.
“next time,” you murmur, voice dipped in honey, “draw me in red. it’s my favorite color.” you press a kiss to his cheek and he almost bursts.
when you’re out of sight, he releases that breath he was holding. he sits there stunned, flushed down to the collar, journal clutched to his chest like a lifeline.
