yknowwww there is something... deeply uncomfortable about the way mel never speaks directly to viktor in the 'build hextech weapons' scene. she really only speaks to jayce. plenty of people have pointed this out already but like the one scene they actually share a meaningful interaction and she treats him like he's beneath her. all this after jayce has emphasized how important viktor is, that hextech is theirs, together. she unequivocally ices him out, there's no other way to interpret this scene. the way it's shot too - from viktor's perspective, looking up at her, as though to reinforce the same belief in him. like he doesn't even bother expecting respect from her - or anyone from the upper echelon of piltover. he's fully accustomed to being dehumanized by everyone around him at this point. sometimes even by jayce, despite the trust they clearly have in each other.

then of course after this scene is viktor experimenting on himself. it's pretty clear that he has internalized his own dehumanization. crazy.

genuinely cannot stand when people villainize pony for being a traumatized 14 year old child coping with the death of both his parents and thinking darry hates him because of the sudden change from darry being his big brother to darry being his legal guardian. it’s a big change for a fourteen year old kid, and the book takes place a little over a half a year later. no shit he’s gonna be angsty and upset about darry’s switch from a big brother to a caretaker practically overnight.

while i despise darry being villainized i think we also have to acknowledge that ponyboy was also hurting and grieving throughout the duration of the book. it wasn’t just darry who lost their parents. pony is also, again, 14. every 14 year old thinks everyone hates them. and it’s not darry’s fault or is it pony’s. look at how pony is with steve. he has the mentality of a fourteen year old because-get this-he’s 14!

yes, darry works very very hard to keep pony and soda in his custody and safe. but people treating a grieving child like a spoiled brat for grieving will never not be gross to me. especially when y’all justify darry hitting pony. there is no justification for that and saying pony deserves it? i genuinely hope you never have a child.
