a/n: thank you for requesting !! i made this a high school au bc i had a lot of inspiration for the idea i hope that's okay lol this is being posted after valentines day so i just made it into a normal confession fic. it means so much that you like my writing <33 i really liked this idea, i hope you like it :))

requests open !! read my rules first

you’re met with the overwhelming smell of flowers as soon as you open your locker. you can’t help the smile that spreads across your face at the sight before you. a bouquet of purple dahlias sits delicately placed between your textbooks. 

“i take it you like them?” jake asks, leaning against the locker next to yours. you smile, taking them out and holding them against your chest. 

“i love them,” you smile, pulling him into a quick hug. “thank you!” 

a light flush spreads across jake’s face when you pull away. “i’m glad,” he murmurs. he absentmindedly plays with the strap of his backpack. “hey, i was wondering-” 

his question is cut off by the shrill noise of the school bell, officially announcing the start of the school day. slowly, the student body begins dispersing through the hallways, entering various different classrooms. “shit, i have a test in second period,” you curse to yourself. “oh, what were you gonna ask?” 

“it’s nothing important.” jake’s blush gets a little darker as he waves you off. “i’ll walk you to class?” 

“sure.” you set the flowers back as you close your locker, eagerly returning to jake’s side. his hand brushes against yours before he slowly reaches over, taking your hand into his. 

you dramatically sigh, throwing your head back in frustration. jay stifles a chuckle as he watches you roll onto the floor, laying on the carpet. “math sucks,” you whine. “i hate it here.” 

“what are you working on?” 

“trigonometry.” you nearly hiss the word. 

“come on, it can’t be that bad.” you lift your head to glare at him through your fringe before dramatically laying back down. 

“i am but a poor teenage boy. i can’t be expected to memorize the unit circle!” 

jay laughs, setting his notes aside and kneeling down next to you. “alright, why don’t we take a break?” you sit up as he walks over to the other side of his room, grabbing his guitar from it’s resting place against the wall. 

“ooh, gonna play me a song, pretty boy?” the nickname makes a dark flush spread across his face as he sits across from you. 

“i wont be able to if you keep flustering me like this,” he whispers. you chuckle. jay sets the guitar across his thigh, positioning his fingers along the neck. “i’m a little nervous, i haven’t played in front of anyone before.” 

“well, i’m honored to have the privilege of being the first.” he nervously repositions his fingers on the chords, staring down at his hands. “hey,” you reach over to grab his hand, making him look at you. “you’ll do great. i’m sure of it.” 

jay smiles, nodding. “thanks.” he takes a breath before he begins, slowly strumming the strings. “‘cause i’m off my face, in love with you / i’m out of my head, so into you / and i don’t know how you do it / but i’m forever ruined by you.” 

jay lets the final chords ring out. you sit in a comfortable silence for a few moments. “you’re incredible.” a flustered smile makes it’s way across his face, blush deepening a little. 

“thank you.” he whispers. an odd tension hangs in the air when he looks up at you. you stare into his eyes, deep brown pulling you in. their darkness is alluring. in the next minute you sit staring at him in silence, taking in every part of him, you decide you’d like to get lost in them forever. 

you sigh, setting your belongings onto the library table. jake stifles a laugh as he watches you. “you know we’re gonna have to pick all of this up later, right?” 

you playfully glare at him, ignoring him as you set your bag down on the floor. across from you jay smiles. “you know y/n. he can’t study if he doesn’t have a highlighter in every color in case he needs to take notes.” 

“at least i’m prepared,” you retort, opening your computer. “what are we working on anyways?” 

“chemistry lab.” 

“don’t you actually need to take notes though?” your eyes widen as you look over at jake. 

“notes? did i miss something?” 

his eyebrows furrow as he looks at you. “for history. about the korean war?” 

jay chuckles. “did you forget?” 

“i think so.” you close your laptop, sliding your chair back to stand up. “can you watch my stuff? i need to get my textbook.” 

“go ahead.” 

“thanks.” 

jay waits for you to leave the library before leaning in a little closer to jake, voice dropping to a whisper. “are you two going out?” 

“what?” jake cocks his head at him. “no, why would you think that.” 

“i heard about the flowers.” 

“oh, that’s just a little joke we do every year.” jay nods. “why do you ask?” 

“i was planning on asking him out.” jake nearly freezes as he stares at his friend. this time it’s jay who’s confused at his reaction. “what is it?” 

“i, um…” jake glances over his shoulder before dropping his voice even lower. “i like him too.” 

“i thought you did.” jay has to stop himself from laughing at jake’s shocked expression. “come on, you’re not exactly… subtle.” 

“oh, and you are?” 

“listen, i don’t want this to affect our relationship, but i also don’t want to miss out on a chance with y/n.” 

“so, what are you thinking?” 

“i’m thinking we both ask him out and let him choose.” 

“choose?” jay shrugs. 

“i mean, unless you have a better idea.” 

“no, no. when were you planning on asking him?” 

“sometime tomorrow. probably at a cafe.” 

jake nods. “that works for me.” 

the cafe is nearly empty when you enter. you spot jake and jay immediately, both sitting together at a table. jay waves you over, smiling when you sit down. “sorry i’m late, i wasn’t expecting the rain.” 

“don’t be.” jake shakes his head. he slides a cup across to you. “we got you an americano.” 

“oh, thank you.” the cup is warm against your hand. you take your jacket off, setting it on the chair beside you. jay and jake share a glance together. you cock your head at them in confusion. “what are you planning?” 

“we’ve been talking, and we wanted to ask…” jake begins. 

“we both like you.” jay finishes. you raise an eyebrow at them. 

“and you want me to choose?” 

“that’s… kinda what we were planning, yeah.” 

you have to stop yourself from laughing in disbelief. “i’ve also been thinking and i like you too. both of you.” 

“so, you mean…” 

“listen, i really like you guys. and i’m willing to try this if you are.” 

jake is the first to react, reaching out to take your hand. “i really like you. i want to try.” 

you look over at jay. he contemplates for a second before nodding. “as long as we take it slow.” 

“we don’t have to do anything until all of us are comfortable.” jake squeezes your hand. 

“does this mean i can call you mine?” jay smiles. 

“i’ll be yours as long as you’ll have me.”

Here’s a part 2 on my ideas for Wish if I rewrote it!

So I realized I didn’t explain why Magnifico was experimenting between wishes and memories and here is why. Wishes are an “if” thing that Magnifico tries to use as an “always” thing but it doesn’t have as much power as he would like to take. But memories were always an “always” thing, therefore having more power for him to take. The only memories he took from was a young Asha. This is because she was right there and easy “to work with” since she was his daughter. But when he tries to only extract the memory from the night, it backfires causing him to almost take most of the memories from her childhood. Including the memory of Cyrus and the seven friends. And this does affect Asha and show the repercussions of destroying someone’s wish or memory. When Asha was younger she used to be competitive and always ready for a challenge, making her witty but at moments having those little spots were she was sweet and most of all, kind. But when Magnifico’s extraction spell backfired, it caused a complete shift in Asha’s personality, making her lose all memory of who she was in those memories taken away. Which is why she is emotionless, strict, monotone, and at times lash out at people at the beginning of my version. Her whole life, she only remembers training to be the queen she was destined to be. But in the beginning of the movie before Asha’s “saying of wish ceremony” when her parents tell her she can’t become queen on her birthday it makes her start to think and ask questions. And when she meets Cyrus and re-meets the seven friends, she slowly finds her way back to her old self with some help over the course of the movie.

I do want there to be a scene where Cyrus and the seven friends discover the memory and a book going along with it. This book will be the certain book missing when Asha, Cyrus, and the seven friends look through Magnifico’s old observatory for answers on Cyrus and if there were other like him. This is also the place we’re Asha’s birthday ball will be held which is suspicious and starts up some questions as well. But the scene will look a little like this: Cyrus and the seven friends break into the study to try and steal back all of the wishes from the royal family(after Asha and Cyrus were separated after Simon split them up somehow by convincing Asha that Cyrus’ family tried to kill her’s and got his wish) and find the missing book. But what was inside shocks them and Cyrus immediately drops the book sprints out of the study and they all follow him. The camera then pans to the open book that reveals his plan to steal the life forces of all of the guests at the ball. It also reveals the studies and experiments he has done on Asha and plans to take the rest of her memories as well.(the memory he currently has is also in his scepter so after he is defeated, Cyrus takes the memory from Magnifico)

Also I have been seeing many people talking about the demo of “At All Costs” and it being a duet between the star boy and Asha and I LOVE that idea. It would fit into my version like this: while Asha, Cyrus, and the seven friends are searching Magnifico’s old observatory, they all split up into groups. Safi, Bazeema, Dahlia will be a group. Hal, Dario, and Gabo would be a group. And Asha, Valentino, Cyrus will be a group. Once they all split up Asha and Cyrus explore the main part of the building which is where the ball is supposed to be held. And to their surprise, some of the wishes have been moved to this location which is weird because Magnifico keeps the wishes with him all of the time. But when Cyrus is looking through some old books, he turns around and sees Asha practicing dancing with an imaginary partner for the ball. He sees this and admires her for a moment before a voice in the background starts singing the beginning of he demo of “At All Costs” as if it was Cyrus singing it.(He is mute in my version so he can’t actually sing it, it will be something like “Can You Feel The Love Tonight”) Throughout the song Cyrus shows Asha the importance of these wishes to her people and they also partner dance in it. They ALMOST kiss but Gabo interrupts the by complaining that they didn’t find anything other than star maps.

There will also be another important change in the version and that is having Queen Amaya die trying to save Asha. Amaya’s character development will represent a parent trying to fix her ways of parenting. Near the end of the movie she confronts Magnifico and tells him to stop bringing Asha into their villain business. Magnifico would usually stop at the mention of Asha but with the book taking over his mind, he disagrees and traps her in a prison made of a green shield, and doesn’t even try to break out of it because of how heartbroken she is seeing Magnifico like this. During the battle she realizes what she has to do and the green shield melts away at this realization. She enters the main area of the ball and sees Magnifico fighting Cyrus and Asha with her magic wand. Amaya quickly runs over and blocks some of his attacks but Magnifico also uses verbal abuse to try and bring Asha and Amaya’s spirits down to make them weaker. Under the influence of the corrupted spirit of the book, he decides to try the “taking away life force” spell on them both first. Amaya doesn’t hesitate to tell Cyrus to get Asha out of there. Asha refuses at first but then Amaya tells her she needs some time to recover from her casting all of those spells. Asha still refuses while Cyrus is hesitant about leaving the queen. Amaya then tells Cyrus to get her out of there and that that’s an order. Cyrus takes Asha’s hands while Amaya says to Asha that she is sorry she didn’t try to be a good mother while she could. Asha is taken back by this and Amaya tells her again to go with Cyrus. Cyrus tries his best to get her out of there as gently as possible while Asha fights against him. Once they make it near one of the exits from the main room, the camera will shift into slow-motion as Asha is reaching out her hand to her mother as a blast from Magnifico’s scepter hits her. This will prove that Amaya would’ve done anything for her daughter which results in Asha forgiving her mother after she dies.

I would also like to talk about the music. The music in this movie is good music but not good music for this certain movie. I think they should’ve done the same thing when combining the old with the new with the animation. I think they should’ve had some song writers that are strong in orchestral music like in the renaissance era of Disney along with some modern song writers used in movies like Enchanto. Having those types of songwriters work together would be difficult but it would’ve brought something creative to the table for this movie.

wish rewrite but Queen Amaya has a minor influence on the plot, aka: Divorce arc! + Bonus song context changes

(it sucks that a person with so much potential was put in the story but just utilized as the Villain's sounding board. You could have replaced her with an animal sidekick! She could have been a classic evil cat! Anyway.)

Tl:Dr: Amaya and Magnifico's relationship is utilized more in the movie for both plot and character development.

Plot: the same but Amaya is having a mid life crisis and relationship issues with Magnifico, giving them both more depth than "childhood trauma made me a control freak + evil book possession" and "I'm the indicator that something is going wrong with my husband".

(tw: verbal and emotional abuse tactics.)

Movie opens on a book. It's not adorned or flashy, just a simple journal. Amaya is writing in it, narrating.

Teen Amaya arriving on a boat with a small group of people. She looks up, enraptured by the stars but no one else does and she's left alone. There's no voice, but you can see that she says "I wish". Then someone calls for her and she leaves. The next night Magnifico appears from the forest, performing magic.

Then we get "City of Rosas" montage going through years. Amaya as the singer, giving the tour. You see the 7 friends interact with her as quick help, then Asha pops up, first next to Amaya then taking over the tour guide spot.

There's a quick establishing walk around the Castle. Amaya checking in on the 7, the servants and people. Everything is going well! The Castle is humming along perfectly! Amaya doesn't need to lend a hand, or explain what's needed. She's a bit of a workaholic and doesn't know what to do with herself.

She ends up in the kitchen with the 7 and Asha. Dahlia gets a check in, her new medication is working well so she's just got her crutch today instead of a full wheelchair. Asha is told "you care plenty, but don't let it blind you." Asha is the one who says that her grandpa Sabino is having his 100th birthday. And wants his wish granted.

Simon is sleepy, everyone is concerned. Amaya excuses herself.

She goes to Magnifico. "Mi rey. You need to give Simon's wish back. He's not well."

"You mean grant it? what do we need Knights for? We're perfectly safe!"

And with Sabino - "there's nothing that needs changing! I'm all the inspiration the Kingdom needs!"

There's hints that Magnifico doesn't like people too much. "we have to keep these safe. They are the best parts of our people." Implying that he just likes what he can choose and control out of people.

And cue "At all costs" as a duet between Magnifico and Amaya. Starting as a love song addressed to Amaya, but then his focus shifts to the Wishes. Her face falls as she realizes that he won't do what she asks. And she leaves.

(what happens when your picture perfect life falls apart? When the job you have chosen, put your whole body and soul into, doesn't need as much time or effort? When the person you love, that you have partnered with for over several decades, doesn't have the same goals you do anymore? Doesn't value you like they used to?)

Only to find Asha was eavesdropping the whole time. "Wait. Are you. Having an argument? I thought you were happy?"

"we are. It's just difficult right now. It's a disagreement. We're fine."

Cut to Asha in the kitchen gathered with the 7. "They are not fine." So. Lighthearted scheme to get the Queen and King back in love by setting up a romantic date.

The lunch date fails. Amaya asks questions, probing more into Magnifico's self serving logic. He launches into "This is the Thanks I get?" (Less of a solo tantrum, more of a mocking dialogue between them.) And shuts her down. Amaya is stricken.

"if they break up, who gets the Wishes? Who's in charge? I don't think divorce is a thing that Royalty goes through!"

They retreat - Magnifico to a wish granting and Amaya to the kitchen. Asha wants to convince Amaya to keep going, keep pushing for the wishes.

"Has he always been like that?"

"Magnifico - oh he always wanted an audience. He hasn't changed since the day we met. He was fun. We needed that support, people who believe in him, in our rule. back then, when there were so many unknowns."

"But it's not back then anymore. We deserve our wishes. Maybe if we can show him that a dangerous wish won't be so bad, he'll come around!"

"Asha, don't tell me-"

"my Grandfather Sabino! He just said wanted to play the lute, right?"

"not exactly..." Amaya felt the true nature of the wish, to inspire.

"what more time does he have! My father already lost out on his wish! I'm not letting anyone else lose!"

"this is what I can do. For now. Go home."

"I can't wait for this change. Until I'm 18? Then what? I'm just supposed to give up my wish like everyone has? Be like Simon?"

Amaya doesn't have an answer to that. Asha goes home. She talks to her family and has her solo "This Wish" song.

The Star shows up. But as in the concept art, it's a mute boy! He starts the animals singing "You're a Star" - and eventually joins in once he gets the hang of talking. "Here I are!" Is his first line.

Once that's over, Star explains. "The Stars grant Wishes. Sometimes they come down to help out personally. But that was a while ago. I want to find them, but you're the first person in a long time to make a wish on a star." They make a plan to release the Wishes themselves.

Meanwhile, Magnifico and Amaya see the light show from Star coming to the Kingdom. Amaya has vague recognition, Magnifico is mad. "Absolutely not. No one is stealing my Wishes from me."

Amaya takes this time that he's distracted to find Simon and Sabino's wishes. She sings a solo version of "Knowing what I know now" with more personal touches and she sends the wishes down the dumbwaiter.

Asha sneaks Starboy into the Castle. Gets her friends to help. They open up the dumbwaiter and find the wishes. Simon gets his back, starts to feel better. Asha grabs Sabino's and runs.

Magnifico starts to build up power. He gathers the town and tells them that there's a rogue magic user on the loose.

Asha brings the wish to Sabino. And he immediately starts to inspire people to question Magnifico. (Seriously. That was the easiest thread to follow through. And it didn't happen!!! What- who dropped the ball?)

Asha regroups with her friends. Does the full "knowing what I know now" song. Runs away to distract Magnifico while her friends release the wishes.

Star looks at Amaya - "your wish wasn't granted. There's a trick to it, if you want to hear." Amaya looks sad again.

Big courtyard confrontation. Magnifico has been absorbing Wishes to get more power.

"I haven't granted my first wish. A lot of them, actually. I won't leave." Magnifico stands his ground.

"unless I retract it."

"you won't." Magnifico laughs. "Who would love you? You're past your prime, far too bossy-"

"You. Wanted love?" Asha asks.

"I was younger than you are. I had lost everything. When I came here and looked at the stars, I thought I could have anything I wanted. And I wanted love. After everything that happened, I wanted love. That was only mine. But not like this."

"we love you. We see you. Even if you can't do magic or fix everything. We love you." Asha and the 7 say to Amaya.

So she reaches into Magnifico, pulling out her wish herself. Everyone sees that and starts to pull theirs from Magnifico.

And it leaves him as a slip of a silvery man. Star taps on him and Magnifico turns completely into his silver white star form. "That's where you've been!"

"so Stars can't stay on earth for too long or they'll go mad?"

"pfft. No. It's just this guy. C'mon let's get you some perspective." And Star takes him away into the sky.

It fades into a picture that Asha is drawing. Her and Amaya are making a book to explain what happened.

Amaya narrates the ending, telling us that it doesn't really end.

The 7 friends and Asha are made apprentices to Queen Amaya. Amaya starts to give the Wishes back, setting people up to achieve their dreams. Star pops back to say hi and go and grant more Wishes.

The handwritten book closes and Amaya stamps "Wish" on the cover with leather tools.

just a nice, harmless, old-fashioned disney movie. not disney's best by far, but far far FAR from bad

the soundtrack. julia michaels is an amazing songwriter and I feel like her style gives this movie soundtrack a very unique vibe among disney classics. maybe she went just a little too pop-ish in some parts that required more broadway styled tunes and lyrics

loved the introduction with the classic disney book

some critic said the disney easter eggs and references were distracting or like,, they were trying to cover up a bad plot with easter eggs for fanservice. well not true lol. I don’t consider bambi’s mom blink and miss cameo as fanservice I consider it childhood trauma coming back. where’s the fanservice in it

“welcome to rosas” was okay I just wonder if she does this for any person coming to rosas. like. like it’s a job? she’s getting paid?

asha is a nice character, despite falling a bit under the "adorkable" main girl stereotype. I still feel like she's well characterized, she is stubborn, selfless and will do anything for her family. stan

“at all costs” listen. this felt a little out of place. that’s because they apparently changed the context to the song. it was supposed to be a love duet between asha and a scrapped human version of star who was like. a jack frost-y character who fell in love with asha. in the final movie, asha and magnifico are singing to the wishes. it still kinda works, but I really wish we got to see the other way round. looks like they really didn’t want to go full classic love story route, but it’s a shame. I’m sure that would have been beautiful and very very disney. the demo version sung by julia michaels and benjamin rice gives you a glimpse of what might have been and it’s just so good, you should really listen to it

A BIT SALTY ABOUT THE ENDING. it's not bad but that would have been WAY more emotional if they let us see asha say goodbye to star. especially because they say it's gonna happen soon, so what's the point in not showing us?? asha and star hugging and crying and then star flying up to the sky. asha looking up at the stars, smiling with tears in her eyes and then the camera moves up to the sky and star has become THE star like the one in pinocchio and princess and the frog. all of this with the "this wish" instrumental. that was a perfect way to wrap it!! also oh my gosh imagine asha saying goodbye to star boy!!! ç_ç

the credits with various characters were a nice touch but why on sweet planet earth did they put yokai as a representative of big hero 6

the credits song, "a wish worth making" just... exists. the lyrics though. they hit hard

I really stayed until the end of the credits just to watch 3 seconds of sabino playing music

• Review: Blood Orange + Black Rose •

If you often find yourself reading vampire books and wishing for something a little bit darker, then Karina Halle’s Dracula Duet is for you.

A cleverly reimagined Dracula, the story is centered on Valtu Aminoff, the vampire who inspired Bram Stoker – and whose story was wildly fictionalized in the infamous vampire book.

In Blood Orange, Dahlia – a witch who is a vampire slayer – is sent to Venice to pose as a graduate student, get close to Valtu, and get rid of him. But she begins to have vivid nightmares where women who look like her die in horrible ways, and she feels an undeniable pull to Valtu.

And their story is a five-alarm fire situation. These books are *spicy* – I mean, there’s a place called the Red Room in it , so! – and Valtu has very particular tastes, if you get what I mean. So definitely check the tw before diving in, especially if you’re new to dark romance.

It’s hard to talk about the rest of the story without giving massive spoilers, but know that when the plot of Blood Orange kicked back in (it, uh, takes a pretty massive backseat to all the *ahem* for a while), the ending left me absolutely gobsmacked. And then Black Rose is basically just a whole lot of erotic angst – which, from me, is a compliment.

That said, I do think Blood Orange is a stronger book than Black Rose, but there are a few unresolved plot points, perhaps signaling a spin-off? I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

I honestly don't know what they were trying to do with Wish. Because Asha and Magnífico are so stupidly similar. Even their assigned colors (which are very clear in At All Costs because in Magnífico's part there is blue light around him and when it cuts to Asha'a part the light is replaced by lavender) are similar.

And their duet??? It's an okay music, although the visuals are not the mot exciting thing I've seen in a CGI 3d movie, but Magnífico and Asha are just so similar here. What do they want?

To protect the wishes.

A duet is supposed to highlight the similarities OR differences of two characters, me thinks, and At All Costs is a song about how they both want and care about the same thing.

Which could actually make for a very compelling narrative: Both the hero and the villain want the same thing, but what they think is the right way to achieve that are conflicting and that causes the plot to move. But the problem with this movie is that they don't seem to know what they want.

A good guy with a grey morality? An utterly cruel villain that abuses his power? A lesson about how we all have power in ourselves to achiev what we want? A warning against the dangers of trusting what is important to you to another person? What is it? They don't seem to decide. The villain is characterized as this nice person for half of the movie and then we have an unexplained 180° turn and he becomes an evil for the sake of evil baddie. The protagonist doesn't have an arc, none of the characters have, but the movie drags them along many paths and doesn't decide where to land, trying to deliver a message. But which is it?

Wish is clearly trying to say something. It just doesn't have nothing to say.

And I also hate the characterization on it because of that. The most consistent character is Dahlia. She's a supporting character.

Sam was close. So close. So infinitesimally close.

Bucky couldn't stop staring at Sam's eyes.

They were a warm sunset in the eclipse of Bucky's heart. They were Sardonyx, Andalusite, Smokey Quartz, Feldspar, Agate sparkling in the dazzling light of a mood-lit gemstone exhibit. They were Table For Two irises, Duet dahlias, Odessa calla lilies, True Love helleborus rustling in the wind.

Sam was a vision. He was awe. He was sublimity. He was kindness and joy and a ball of stress all wrapped up in a body built through hard work and dedication.

Sam was an uncle in a bathing suit who asked Bucky for some reason to come with him, Sarah, and the boys to the brown waters of a Gulf beach.

Sam was a very shirtless man sitting on a towel next to Bucky's completely buried body who was staring at Bucky as if he wanted something from Bucky. Attention? Love? One of those Captain America popsicles?

Bucky would bust out of his sand prison like the Hulk and sprint to that ice cream truck driving off if Sam asked him.

"Do you trust me?" whispered Sam, pseudo-serious.

Bucky laughed a little too loudly.

"Always," said Bucky a little too sincere.

"You got a..." Sam whispered, low and rumbling and hotter than a summer in Delacroix.

Sam's finger moved towards Bucky, the tip grazing Bucky's face, brushing Bucky's skin in a way that made Bucky want more. Sam moved his finger into Bucky's line of sight.

"Eyelash," murmured Sam, like bourbon mixing with honey, a low purr that made Bucky's brain short-circuit, "Blow it and make a wish."

Bucky immediately blew it, unable to break eye contact with Sam.

Bucky could wish for a lot of things. He could wish for the Russians to have never found him. He could wish for the snap to have never happened. He could wish that he wasn't the type of fella who needed a pardon.

He wished for Sam's happiness.

Because. If wishes were real, and if he could wish for anything, that felt like a good wish.

Sam smiled at him, the gap in his teeth hypnotic.

"You ever wonder what magic is real?" asked Sam as he lay next to Bucky, his face still so very close, "Now that we know magic is real?"

"I try not to think about it too hard," said Bucky.

Bucky's mouth felt too wet yet too dry at the same time. How was that even possible?

"Thanks for coming, James," said Sam, sounding uncharacteristically shy, "I know I keep inviting you to these family things. I hope it's not too weird for you."

"No, never. I love your family! I love - !" Bucky started, then faltered.

Because.

Because.

Sam's eyes widened.

"Sorry - " Bucky started again, meaning to explain and apologize, but he was stopped by a kiss.

A chaste, quick peck.

"You too," said Sam, sounding like he was rambling, despite him only saying a few words, "I'm - you know - with you."

Bucky couldn't help but smile at Sam, melt at his words.

"Me too," said Bucky softly, "I love you too."

Sam laughed.

"I think you sort of said that already," said Sam before going in for another kiss.
