CRUISING WITH EDES

Nearly a decade, when I first started research for my book and film OUT IN THE STREETS, I found an article about EDES—a Copenhagen-based artist pushing the boundaries of homoerotic graffiti with explicit, yet amusing vignettes. As soon as I could, I headed to Denmark for document his perspective.

Now seven years later, it was incredible to return to Copenhagen for his interactive, immersive installation CRUISING WITH EDES; celebrating both baudy homoerotic toilet graffiti and restroom cruising. The space was so convincing that several guests at the opening reception accidentally used the toilets thinking they were functional!

Curated by Freespace , and hosted by DRIPS CPH, the installation will be open until 13 April 2024.

The angst potential alone haunts me. How long do you think he waited for Ford?? When did it start to sink in that nobody was coming to save him, that nobody would miss him? Would anybody even want him back? How long did it take for his anger, his heartbreak, his grief to turn into acceptance and a belief that this was divine retribution? How long did he work, how many jobs did he take, how much wealth did he accrue, how many brushes with death did he have until he believed he’d “earned” the right to go home and see his brother?? i wanna say fuck you to anyone who shame disabled, chronically ill & neurodivergent people, especially homebound folks, for "spending too much time on their phone/on the internet/etc." when it's the only (Somewhat) accessible way for them to experience the world. many people don't get to get out much even if they want to because of their disabilities. shaming someone for trying to connect with the world, make friends and engage with hobbies in ways that are accessible to them is beyond cruel and unnecessary

when i was 17 and in the eating disorder trenches i saw people online talking abt how the fat liberation movement & unlearning fatphobia helped them recover and i did NOT like hearing that i was SO mad about it i was like well having an eating disorder doesnt mean im fatphobic!!! This is ableist etc etc. And then i learned abt the fat liberation movement and started unlearning fatphobia and guess what . it does help
