Hey everyone remember Egon? The really old guy from the Renegade Rangers? My brain just created headcanon saying he died of dementia and it's currently breaking my heart thinking about his last gatherings so I'm inflicting it on you guys too

Angsty headcanon time 😊

I've talked about this before in the tags of a post I reblogged I think but I wanna write it out properly

So you know Egon. Old man ranger guy. He's dead now. He died because he was old and got sick, as old people do often.

So Egon was sick and just slowly dying and because he was a retired ranger at this point he was living in Castle Araluen and staying at the hospital place there.

He and Farrel the cool axe guy were really close and had some kind of uncle nephew relationship. Then one day Farrel died because he was fighting some people and got stabbed with his own axe or something cool like that.

Halt was visiting Crowley for work or relationship reasons when they got the news that Farrel was dead, and Crowley said that he wanted them to be the ones who told Egon that Farrel was dead. They were scared to do it though because Egon was so close to death that they had a feeling/knew that the news would probably kill him from shock and grief. So Halt and Crowley made an agreement to stay with him and to not leave each other.

They told him, and they were right about Egon not being able to handle it, but Crowley couldn't either, and when he saw Egon was about to die he freaked out and ran out of the room, breaking the promise he made to Halt. Halt stayed with Egon until he died like he said he would, but then afterwards he went to go find Crowley because he was fucking pissed.

He found Crowley and Crowley tried to apologise and shit but then Halt just pushed and/or punched him and they had an arguement and didn't talk to each other for a while after that, which really sucked because two of their close friends had just died and they probably needed each other at that time.

#6, Mentor

This is Charlie, Egon's apprentice and one of my many ocs! You can read the origins of their story below the cut, and there's a second illustration too :)

Trigger warning: sickness, it's not heavy but still I'm putting it here in case anyone has trouble with it

Egon was on one of his usual weekly patrols. It was nothing special, just a small round through the fief. It mostly took him two days in total, which was far from long in his opinion.

It was his second day, and the prospect of getting home and resting was a very appealing one. He rode over a forest path and looked a bit at his surroundings, when suddenly he saw a moment. He halted his horse and looked right in the face of a young boy.

'What the... hey, kid? Why are you here? Where are your parents?'

'They're dead.'

Egon had to resist the urge to give him a surprised look. My god, what did he get himself into now? He dismounted his horse and kneeled down next to the boy.

'You look pale, are you alright?'

'Food poisoning, probably.'

Could he just have a normal conversation without getting short answers? Apparently not. Well, he had to try and help anyway...

'What's your name?'

'What's yours?'

'I'm Egon, King's Ranger number twelve. Can you tell me yours?'

'Charlie.' The boy hesitated, he had no idea why. 'Charlie Bliss.'

'Alright, thank you. Well, you have to come with me. You need help.'

'I don't need it.'

'You'll starve, or get some other disease. How old are you?'

'Almost fifteen.'

'That's too young to be wandering around in the woods. Come on, please let me help you..'

'I told you already, I don't need your help.'

'Do you really prefer to stay alone here then?'

'I'm used to being alone.'

‘Let me take care of you. You can always decide to leave, but atleast give it a chance. I don’t want to hear something happened to you because I left you alone here.’

The boy gave him a tired look, but soon he noticed Egon's determined look. He accepted, but Egon was sure it was just because otherwise he would not shut up about it or leave him alone.

Egon helped him on his horse and quickly sat in front of him. He had seen the boy's scars, and they did not seem like just a few... he had once, like all Rangers in the neighbouring fiefs, wondered where The Lost Son had gone. The boy did look somewhat like the old Baron and Baroness...

Egon wasn't going to make any conclusions here, but he would for sure send a letter to Terry, the Ranger of the fief where the accident had happened almost fifteen years ago, for more information about how the couple had died.

For now, he had to make sure to save this boy from suffering. Neither of them said a word, but that was fine. Egon wasn't going to push him to talk if he didn't want to. They would talk later, in his cabin and when the boy had some of his strength back.

I think most of the Renegades would still be in action because there's no mention of them being all that old (aside from Egon, and Berwick, with his greying hair), but I could be wrong. Also not accounting for any untimely deaths.

Clarke and Skinner, who graduate in KoC, would be apprentices. And our Will, of course.
