i don’t care what you tell me. i don’t care what canon you cite: jason is a responsible gun owner.
his safes are always locked, and he’s got his guns and ammo stored separately. his guns never just sit around loaded except the one he uses for home security and it’s still locked up in a safe by his bed. he doesn’t point it at anyone he isn’t prepared to fatally shoot.
jason uses guns but he’s not an idiot.

Been thinking a lot about how smiling and making small talk for no reason are white social cues -- especially white American social cues -- not just in video games but in real life. Which makes me even more glad that Ratohnhaké:ton never compromised himself for white men's comfort.
It's a reality BIPOC in America have to face, even if it's in the context of work or school and not murdering people (lol), and God. It's hard.

the steven universe hate is insane bc people are (or at least were) more upset that fictional war criminals got fictional hugs than they recognize that it singlehandedly advanced queer rep in children's media by lightyears and then straight up ate heavy retaliation for the nerve.
It does have real flaws that are worth discussing, but it also put their male protagonist in dresses and skirts and played it straight and even empowering, they aired a lesbian wedding on television, it was a genuinely queer, genuinely diverse piece of media through and through. It did a lot of real good for the real world.
But also the fictional characters caused fictional harm to other fictional characters, and didn't get an onscreen firing squad sentence. So, you know, it's basically ontologically evil in real life.

Something Fabulous is very very funny, but I honestly just want to take both Tarletons out into a wood and abandon them there. Valentine might have a stick up his ass but to be honest I'd be a lot less restrained if I had to deal with Arabella. I get why he might have the hots for Bonny but good lord no amount of cherubic dick could possibly be worth putting up with a persistent litany of everything that's wrong with you in service of an idiot who doesn't want you in the first place.
Edit: Valentine accidentally hurt Peggy trying to get free of the chair they tied him to and now they've all decided he's a monster, including Valentine himself. He's shamefully allowing himself to be locked in the cellar. Kids, this is straight up abuse apologia. Fuck my OCD, I'm DNFing and deleting it from my Kindle. I expected better of you, Alexis Hall.

I Saw the TV Glow is such a uniquely, devastatingly queer story. Two queer kids trapped in suburbia. Both of them sensing something isn’t quite right with their lives. Both of them knowing that wrongness could kill them. One of them getting out, trying on new names, new places, new ways of being. Trying to claw her way to fully understanding herself, trying to grasp the true reality of her existence. Succeeding. Going back to help the other, to try so desperately to rescue an old friend, to show the path forward. Being called crazy. Because, to someone who hasn’t gotten out, even trying seems crazy. Feels crazy. Looks, on the surface, like dying.
And to have that other queer kid be so terrified of the internal revolution that is accepting himself that he inadvertently stays buried. Stays in a situation that will suffocate him. Choke the life out of him. Choke the joy out of him. Have him so terrified of possibly being crazy that he, instead, lives with a repression so extreme, it quite literally is killing him. And still, still, he apologizes for it. Apologizes over and over and over, to people who don’t see him. Who never have. Who never will. Because it’s better than being crazy. Because it’s safer than digging his way out. Killing the image everyone sees to rise again as something free and true and authentic. My god. My god, this movie. It shattered me.
