"I know that as a detective, you probably have to take a lot of notes so I couldn't think of a more fitting gift," He shyly holds out the notebook, knowing that with its cutesy outer appearance, it might not be best suited for solving cases but maybe...it could have other uses.
"Maybe...you could use it to write down memories with your friends...or like stuff that we could do together..." He trails off, now beginning to shyly fumble with his hands. "E-Either way, I know you like the colour blue and I wanted to get you something that could be both practical and cute! 'Cause well...you're pretty cute, s-sometimes...!"
White Day
It was too cutesy for detective work, but it didn’t mean there were no uses. A journal of some kind because this didn’t deserve to be filled with notes on robberies and the like. Even though there was nothing inside, she opened the book and flipped through its pages. There was a decent amount of organization to be found; yes, this would do nicely for matters unrelated to crime.
She was about to say thanks, but stopped short just as he uttered...
Her mind protested against blushing, but her body reacted faster than she could process it, cheeks heating up ever so slightly. With her free hand, she tugged the bill of her cap, obscuring her face as best as she could. Cute. A descriptor that only family used and only when she was still in the single digits, age wise.
“Well, I... Thank you for the gift, Ryuji. I’ll be sure to put it to good use.”
It was a miracle she was able to say it coherently.
So when a ghost becomes injured, they have a last ditch defense where they retreat into their core. And I mean, injured badly where their body is rip apart to the point they can’t hold a solid form anymore. And they basically go into a hibernation state until they are strong enough to form again.
Ellie, Danny, and Dan are all injured in a final battle against the GIW. The organization was destroyed and the ghosts were safe but the halfas ended up being so injured that they reverted to core form and then went to sleep for a bit. When they woke up, they were still weak but at least recovered enough to gain consciousness. And realize…they are in some kind of auction…in the middle of a heist. It appeared that two furries (one in a bat costume and one in a cat costume) were ducking it out. And they…they were a necklace. All three of them had been turned into a necklace with their cores as gems accompanied by sapphires, pearls, and opals. And frankly gorgeous craftsmanship as the metal was crafted around their cores as if to cradle them and the other gems.
Unfortunately, they were too weak to take a form properly, they could still feel the strain on their bodies. But at least they could still communicate through their auras. Then the cat lady punched a hole in the glass container surrounding them and grabbed their necklace.
However, the bat grabbed the other end and it resulted in a sort of tug-a-war. Meanwhile, Danny, Ellie, and Dan were having a back and form commentary on the situation and what they should do. Completely unheard by the other party.
In the corner of their eye, the three halfas finally noticed a third contender. Some kind of clown who was…hold on…holding a gun?! And it was pointed straight at the two fighting furies who had yet to notice him. The ghosts’ protective instincts went into overdrive and they frantically tried to shout, yell, move. Just do something to warn the two but their cries fell on deaf ears. All they succeeded in doing was faintly glow which immediatly caught the attention of the fighting duo. The two turned to look at the strange necklace but right at that moment, the clown fired and a gunshot rang throughout the auction room. Having no other options, Danny and the others poured every ounce of ectoplasm they had to try and phaseshift, making the two furries intangible as the bullets passed right through them, but in their shock, the two jumped away in opposite directions and accidentally ripped the necklace apart. Gems and pearls went flying and the three cores bounced along the ground.
Luckily, the two finally noticed the clown and went to deal with him and his minions who had appeared. Seemingly putting their fight on hold and forming a temporary truce. The three halfas could only watch as the battle finally wound down, ending with the cops barging into the place and arresting the clown and his grunts, the cat managing to escape with half the scattered gems and pearls from the broken necklace along with a few other jewelry pieces (none of their cores though) and the bat leaving through a skylight.
The auction continued and in the end, despite being broken, their necklace seemed to have caught someone’s interest. A man named Bruce Wayne bought up every piece of the shattered jewelry wear. The auctioneers appeared relived that the item managed to sell in the end and gratefully gave it to him.
Bruce had no idea what happened at the auction, but he could have sworn that some of the gems faintly glowed right before he and Selina were shot. If the necklace was some sort of magical item, then he needed to understand exactly what has been brought to Gotham. It was unfortunate that Selena had taken some parts of the necklace but he utilized his vast wealth to make sure all the other parts ended in his possession. Now he would take them back to the mansion for examination.

Today, when Naoto opens the red envelope that has mysteriously appeared in her bag overnight ( After he'd bribed the cat for his help with promises of sushi ), there is not a poem written on the little white card inside. Instead, there is a drawn snapshot of the northwest corner of Kichijoji. A red X marks a building on the map, with a time stamped beneath it: 8:30pm.
Following it would lead her to Jazz Jin. He'd taken her there before, of course, but those were really just opportunities to talk; to indulge in their shared interests. This is quite different from his usual requests to meet there.
When she arrives, instead of the usual songstress in her vibrant red dress, Akira is sat at the grand piano in a suit of the same shade of scarlet. A Kiss To Build A Dream On, by Louis Armstrong, sang with his own accompaniment. When his eyes are not cast towards the keys, they find hers in the crowd, glittering with affection.
At the end of his performance he thanks the patrons and the management, and graciously returns the stage to the singer and her pianist. He retreats backstage for just long enough to take off his blazer and retrieve his gift for Naoto: A box of chocolates just as she gave him. Only his was wrapped in a silk red box with a sparkled black ribbon over the top. Inside, the chocolates were actually lollipops, one for each of the Neo Feathermen masks, with colored white chocolate to decorate them accordingly.
❝ Happy White Day, Naoto... ❞
White Day (Nuisance edition)
Arriving at Jazz Jin by 8:30 was an easy task, especially for a detective who lived by the idea that on time was too late. When she entered the building, the usual singer she’d grown accustomed to wasn’t on stage. It only took a millisecond to recognize who it was. Perhaps it was a tic she’d picked up from him, but Naoto played with her bangs then quietly sighed, avoiding his gaze.
She hung her coat over the back of the chair, then took a seat at the table. The heater was cranked up a little too high, so Naoto rolled her sleeves, leaving them at three-quarters. She half-wondered if this was another plan of his, but decided it was too absurd even for Joker, leader of the Phantom Thieves.
Every so often as he played, he’d look at her, an expression she recognized as pure affection. When he wasn’t being a nuisance or every synonym of the word, he could be charming. Saying as such would boost his ego, and give him a complex he’d never come down from.
He bowed and returned the stage to its rightful owner. She didn’t follow him backstage, only rested her chin upon her hand and closed her eyes. Allow him the element of surprise. Only when she heard the familiar cadence of his footsteps did Naoto open an eye, a light hint of a smile on her face. “Aren’t you the gentleman,” she commented, in old and most likely outdated French.
Naoto opened the box. Inside... well.
“I won’t repeat this again.” She loosened the top button of her shirt. It was unbearably hot. “I have no heart to give, for you have already stolen it. Just for today, I’ll concede defeat, but don’t get cocky. Every thief has a detective on their trail.”
She gestured for him to sit, and once he did, “And I’ll have you know, it’s difficult to shake me off the trail.”
She kissed him then, and the surprise on his face was well worth it.
A random Honchkrow appears! It comes bearing a gift in the form of individually wrapped homemade dark chocolates in the shape of Pokémon. They are packaged in a transparent wrapping neatly tied at the top with a soft blue ribbon into the shape a small pouch. A couple forget-me-nots are stuffed in alongside the ribbon. The crow lingers just long enough to watch her reaction before returning from whence it came.
Huh? What's this?
After thoroughly emphasizing how much today was just like any other old day, Blue hadn't expected a delivery straight to her balcony. She stares down the bird with the widest eyes, trying to make heads or tails of the situation, before taking the little bag carefully in her hands.
No way...?
Homemade chocolates—dark chocolates, which are her personal preference and pretty much the only candy she will ever indulge in on occasion. The likeness of the pokémon represented in the batch seems carefully chosen ; many of them match her own partners though there are a few others thrown in the mix, like Liepard and Zoroark. Is the person who sent this perhaps Unovan? Nobody immediately comes to mind, though.
Then there's the matter of the forget-me-nots. Her favorite flowers, though that is a small detail about her that's not well-known. Who could possibly have sent her such a beautiful, personalized gift on WHITE DAY, of all days?
"I... um... Thank you?" she stammers, and she swears the Honchkrow smirks at her in amusement.
