Paulina Bryan’s vision for the Live Lawyer App @livelawyerapp stemmed from her son’s frequent police stops after buying a new car. He would call her, anxious and unsure how to handle the situation, sparking her idea to create an app that connects users with lawyers via video chat during police encounters. Paulina, in a moment of frustration and creativity, mused that it would be ideal if one could Skype a lawyer in such situations. This idea sparked the beginning of a journey that would take several years and immense dedication. In 2014, Paulina began the patent process for the Live Lawyer App. However, the path was not easy. Tragically, in 2016, her son was murdered, a devastating loss that strengthened her resolve to bring her vision to life. Paulina channels her grief and determination into developing an app that aims to provide immediate legal representation for individuals stopped by the police. The Live Lawyer App operates on a simple yet powerful principle: if stopped by the police, users can activate the app to connect with a lawyer via a FaceTime-like feature. This immediate legal support can help navigate the complexities and anxieties of police encounters, ensuring that users’ rights are protected. The app also alerts pre-selected contacts of the user’s location, adding an extra layer of safety.

today i learned about library apps for scanning and categorising your book collection so you can imagine the fun i have been having all evening

#the app is called libib btw #at first i thought it kinda sucked but the other contenders were all paid #but then i realised the app is only really a support to the website which is actually nicely designed #i've had an excel sheet trying to keep a log of all my books and whether i've read them but this is way more fun #and when i say all evening i mean it literally since 5 i've been doing nothing but scanning or amending the listings. it is now 10pm #talking

Within the last month, I have wanted to read/reread:

Jane of Lantern Hill by L.M. Montgomery

The Electrical Menagerie by Mollie E. Reeder

Valiant by Sarah McGuire

Retellings in general (especially Cinderella retellings)

Golden Age mysteries, especially Josephine Tey and Agatha Christie

The Moon-Spinners by Mary Stewart

Books set in locations that are not America or England, especially warm climates

Books set in wintery/cold weather settings

Science fiction/space opera

Superhero stories

Civil War history/Presidential history

D.E. Stevenson books (and other mid-tier vintage light fiction)

Wilkie Collins books

Graphic novels

And I'm sure there are others that I'm forgetting

#books #monthly reading lists #some of these may just make up my july list #this is not great in terms of getting books read #because as soon as i start one a different craving hits #or i want to satisfy all cravings at once #yesterday i started five different books #jane of lantern hill (good it's already on my reading list)#a sci-fi (hopefully short and quick)#a sample of the second book in that maid maleen trilogy (prob not in the mood to go further)#a wilkie collins book (excellent so far)#(will unfortunately take a while but since there's a librivox i can make use of driving time so it's like a free space)#and an una silberrad that was a total impulse when glancing at the epub reader app #i also stayed up way too late reading these #and MEANWHILE i've got a whole stack of library books i need to get to #AND i'm SUPPOSED to be reading some books from my shelf #impulse control and me are not on great terms in the summertime

i know that others have already commented on this but most of my high school interns are so helpless when it comes to technology that doesn't completely spoonfeed the experience that it is actually terrifying

#tbc our awareness of this means we now spend extra time on these skills but it is a shock at how many cant navigate basics on a desktop #let alone use a program like excel #ppl just assumed these kids would be 'digital natives' and be far ahead of us naturally #but the reality is they grew up on phones and tablets and apps that strongly handhold and control your experience #and computer skills - esp on desktop - are something you have to learn #and that includes learning where to go to try looking for an answer yourself first #not st #doctor's log
