Just remember I got around 300 new hits in the last 24 hours. Do you want to know how many kudos I got from those hits?

Zero.

Does that mean my fics are horrible/trash/awful/not worth even of sparing a few seconds to clic on a button? Probably not. It means absolutely nothing. Maybe someone clicked by accident, maybe someone came back to re-read them, maybe someone forgot my fic opened in a tab and the page refreshed a dozen of times...

It's impossible to know. So don't focus too much on numbers. I know how demoralizing it can be to see hits continuing to rise and no real interaction, but that doesn't measure the time, effort and passion you put in your stories, or the quality of them.

Are you guys ever trying to write something but you can’t focus on it because you have another idea living in your head kicking around your thoughts because it wants to be written first so you finally write it and it comes out so fast and then you post it and suddenly you can write the thing you originally were trying to write? Yeah that feeling is the most beautiful and most frustrating thing about being a writer.

i think i’ve been trapped in this mindset of constantly staring at the numbers of kudos, hits, comments, etc on my fics and it’s gotten to my head a little. it feels like i’ve forgotten why i started to write in the first place: because i enjoy it.

i guess i have to remind myself that numbers don’t dictate the quality of my writing or diminish my love for it, in the same way grades aren’t an accurate indicator of who i am as a person.

I just realized I am very glad my family at least has some idea of the shenanigans I get up to because otherwise if they walked into my room and saw a corkboard with a bunch of papers connected by strings staying stuff like “aliens”, “time travel possible?”, and “memory manipulation” they would probably be kinda concerned.

reached a wordcount of 30k tomorrow and the pride i've been filled with since then is almost ridiculous. like. i've spent so much time just whining about having to write it just to barely ever actually go and write it. months of suffering. my best friend feels the pain the most because she's the one i'm always complaining to.

the moment i finish that shit will be the moment of my remedy.

Good ao3 summary FtD

I see lots of author notes claiming that they aren’t good at summaries (spoiler, most are just fine). Here’s part of one that was a standalone delight:
