Schools need to stop ignoring the fact thomas jefferson was a horrible person. Please for the love of god school systems stop ignoring Sally Hemmings. She deserved so much better; she was a CHILD. She deserves to be recognized for what she faced. Just because Jefferson is so important to american history schools blatantly ignore the abuse he put this girl through and INSTEAD talk about how he was against slavery??(my school did at least.)
I hate it so much; like despise it. The founding fathers are not to be idolized. Their achievements can be idolized; but they should not be as PEOPLE. Schools lack the ability to mention the fact that whether they did good or not, most of them were absolutely horrible men. SPECIFICALLY THOMAS JEFFERSON!!! My schools have never once mentioned Sally Hemmings, and honestly they do whatever to avoid ot.
Its upsetting to see, in all honesty. Just because Jefferson and the other founders did good work does not mean they were good people. There are actions that even then were not acceptable(from my knowledge r@pe was illegal during the 18th century)-and those actions are certainly not acceptable now.
Justice needs to be done for Sally, and honestly every person hurt by not only jefferson, but other founding fathers. Whether they founded america or not, they are not people to be idolized and the fucked up shit theyve done shouldnt be ignored for the sole purpose its "innapropriate," or "controversial." Because no, its not controversial. Its a fact.
Jefferson specifically makes me upset because the knowledge of his abuse to Sally is well known. Its not some foreign consoiracy, people know that it happened and choose ignore it. Jefferson was a massive fucking piece of shit and his actions should not remain a "hush hush" topic.
Just because Jefferson is important to US history does not mean he gets a pass on this. Sally needs to be addressed, she needs to be learned about, and shoving into kids heads that the founding fathers were great people is absolute bullshit. This goes for every historical figure, too.
Dont need a whole lesson on it; just one mention. Just one singular mention about Sally and how horrible Jefferson was would suffice if its THAT controversial. Sally was a child. Not an adult. A 13-14 year old girl- Jefferson was over 40. For YEARS i was under this impression that the founding fathers could do no wrong yet here we are after i had to learn about it MYSELF.
I am aware schools lie all the time but my god this should not be something simply glazed over. American schools especially struggle with properly educating kids on topics like slavery and its just..why? Is it so hard to just acknowledge that jefferson was a bad person? The founding fathers are not to be glorified and idolized??
Im sorry for ranting but my god it just takes one brief mention to a class of kids and they have more knowledge on this than at least half of america.

day 1 of @tolkiengenweek: fingon & maeglin in mandos.
a little while ago i did this piece and @tanoraqui mentioned maeglin in the tags. anyways i was thinking about which nolofinwion would be best at dealing w maeglin's trauma.
turgon means well, but maeglin probably doesn't want to talk to him. aredhel is a) his mom and b) part of the traumatic backstory so that would also be difficult. argon never even made it past the grinding ice (and frankly i havent figured out his personality enough to do one of these). fingon, however, kept nicely to the theme of eldest son & youngest grandson and made sense trauma-wise.
so anyways here's fingon helping maeglin deal with the aftermath of his time in morgoth's captivity and the trauma of losing aredhel.

“Je me souviens / Que né sous le lys / Je croîs sous la rose.”
[I remember / That born under the lily / I grow under the rose.]
- Official motto of Quebec
Inspired by @historia-vitae-magistras' beautiful and heart-wrenching stories about Matt and his two fathers.
The first panel shows Francis holding baby Mathieu, who remained under his tutelage until 1763, the end of the Seven Years War. Canada grew under the “English rose” until the 20th century, when it relinquished most of its dependence on the British Empire.
The second panel shows Arthur kneeling before a young Matt and offering him a rose. In the next panels, Matt pricks his finger on the rose’s thorns. The thorns can be a metaphor for all the wars Canada had fought in for the empire.
Eventually, the droplets of blood morph into the red maple leaves, Canada’s national symbol, suggesting that Canada has grown into his own.

Hi! Sorry if this is well known I literally just got into the actual history side of hamilton a week ago.
But in James madison related works they make him super sick. Is that because of how his actor was coughing in the original thing or was he just really inbred in reality and tended to be sick lots. Or maybe something else (these are just my main two ideas,,)
im speedrunning this because my computer might die. also if one more of you come into my ask box apologizing for asking questions, i will be under your bed
James Madison is one of the most accurately portrayed characters in Hamilton: An American Musical because he's constantly coughing up a fucking lung. Because he was. All the time. He wasn't inbred as far as I know (which. you know. anything is possible, but these aren't royals, so they're not THAT inbred, at least not closely), but he was deathly ill most of the time.
So, in the 18th century, medicine wasn't exactly the best. For example, people believed that the yellow fever epidemics were caused by "a particular construction of the atmosphere", "fetid humors", and "mephitic vapors". Those people were doctors. As you can imagine, we're not working with the height of medical technology.
As a result of this, there was a high rate of specifically child deaths related to illness. During this time period, if you made it past 18, you were pretty much good to live a long life, but your chances of making it past 18 were not. great. So. Those who did make it into adulthood often had complications due to childhood illnesses. For example, Alexander Hamilton was continuously suffering from rheumatic fever throughout his life, George Washington had pock-marks on his face from smallpox, and Benjamin Franklin never seemed to be in good health.
So Madison's illness at the time was not by any means mysterious, but it did stand out to his contemporaries. I actually found this website that lists (allegedly) everything that was wrong with this motherfucker, so if that interests you, the link is there. I've perused it, and it seems to line up with everything that I've read on the little guy.
I would love to go into more detail about this, but unfortunately Ron Chernow isn't pulling his weight on this tumblr account and my computer is gonna fucking die so bye i love you xoxo gossip girl

cain killing abel
Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” And he replied, “I don’t know! Am I my brother’s guardian?” But the Lord said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground! So now you are banished from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand [...]” - Genesis 4:9-11 (NET)
