The fire, revisited

I have a crack theory that might not be too cracky.

Previously, I'd thought the fire at Phantomhive Manor was started by either the attackers (and/or John Brown) or by Tanaka (on Vincent's standing orders, in case something like this happened to him).

Well, I'd be surprised if Tanaka somehow managed to do that, considering he'd fallen from that stab wound to the back. Either John Brown or the other attackers on his/the queen's orders is still a good possibility. Particularly since I expect that John and the queen already know by then that Undertaker is a reaper.

But there's another possibility I'd never really talked about before: the reapers who came to collect all those souls. I was thinking of this during discussions about ch209, because this new reaper states there're no additional comments to make about Snake's death, even though he's in a space underground where there are body parts stored, blood transfusion equipment, and a bizarre doll who is actually Snake's killer.

You'd think he'd at least mention the odd circumstances of Snake's death, especially when there's a hunt for Undertaker and his latest bizarre dolls. I don't think this reaper is completely oblivious to what's going on; it seems to me he might be trying to actively cover up what's happening, so he's not including such details in the official documentation. It could be for selfish reasons (to avoid overtime), or it could be based on special orders he's been given.

I say that because for a long time, the reapers weren't talking about Undertaker, and Grelle didn't even know about Undertaker's past as 136649. Othello knows because he was there and he was trained with 136649. But if he's a "fugitive of legend", why aren't reapers like Grelle and Ronald aware of his history? William has been at least somewhat aware of him for a while... but he's in management. The "superiors" are finally getting reapers in collections involved with this ongoing case against Undertaker, and I suspect it's only out of necessity. If they could, they would keep the vast majority of the reapers in the dark about this deserter.

Because they consider him to be that much of a threat to their organization. For quite some time, I've thought he knows something (bad) about the organization itself, and if he spread that knowledge around to the reaper masses, there could be an uprising. We've seen it with the maids turning against Heathfield, Ada and the patients turning against the Aurora Society, and now with the top students against the orphanage. When people realize they are being controlled and harmed for someone else's benefit, they tend to rise up, and I think that's what could happen if enough of the reapers learn whatever Undertaker knows.

The "superiors" finally got serious about it, according to Othello, when they sent him from his lab to the human realm. They seem to have hoped he could make this problem go away by talking to the deserter, destroying him, or capturing him. But once Othello realized it really was him, of all reapers, he knew he couldn't handle the situation on his own... and that he and Grelle wouldn't be enough, either. That's why he sent the dove for backup.

But I think someone else in the reaper organization already knew Undertaker was involved and tried to stop him without properly documenting anything -- they tried to cover up his activities. The night of the attack, one or two reapers were sent to collect souls from the dying, as per usual. While looking through their cinematic records, the reapers saw occasional instances of Undertaker showing up in them, but the most instances would have been in Vincent's records.

Vincent's records would have had extensive chunks of memories involving Undertaker, and the information in those records (things they said to each other) could have been damning somehow. To the organization, at least. What if Undertaker admitted to being Vincent's father? What if he told Vincent secrets he knew about the reaper organization? What if he mentioned the experiments he'd already been conducting on cinematic records and corpses?

Any reaper reviewing such records might think the best thing to do is destroy all this evidence, which might hopefully destroy the information, too. Why would a reaper destroy evidence about the organization's activities, if that information could help spawn a revolution? Too much of a hassle? Doesn't understand the full implications? On someone else's orders? Perhaps the reapers sent to collect these souls were specifically told to burn Vincent's body and the manor, and those reapers did as they were told, regardless of the circumstances. I wonder what happened to any reaper who saw whatever they saw in those cinematic records.... 🤔

Whoever ordered the fire to be started, or whoever decided to start it... they did so to destroy evidence.

As well as to keep Undertaker from collecting Vincent's body and cinematic records. Because whoever this person is, they know Undertaker would have found those things useful. And they didn't want him to have access.

The end result is pretty much the same, except that now I think reapers might have actually done it, instead of attackers/John or Tanaka.

"I mean, how would you feel if Guinevere blamed Merlin for your death? for not saving you in time?"

"i know she wouldn't. but just think. if someone you loved said something like that to you, if Gwen said that Merlin let you die on purpose, how would you feel?"

"I'd..." he turned his head, avoiding eye contact. "I'd feel awful."

"well, there's your answer then."

the king laughs incredulously. "my answer? to what?"

"to who is in the wrong."

"Arthur."

the king looked like he wanted to hug his fiancé, or apologize, or start to yell at him. he did none of those things. instead, he asked: "care to explain why, on our whole journey here, it was pouring rain, but not a single drop touched us?"

the sorcerer looked taken aback for a moment, before a smirk started to grow across his face. he glanced at the ground, then Kin, then folded his hands behind his back, straightening his posture. "well, sire," he said, smugness dripping from his tone, "I believe that would be Arc's doing."

he heard Kin muffle a snicker from next to him, but both men elected to ignore it.

Arthur expertly schooled his expression to one of neutrality, but Merlin could see the shock beneath.

Arthur spluttered.

"Kin!" Merlin looked around frantically, as if his mother might pop up at any moment.

Lancelot, who had previously been quiet, let out a large laugh, startling even himself.

Kin grinned at him, all teeth and perked ears. "C'mon, Lance, let's go chat while they make up."

hesitating, the knight looked between the spatting partners. they seemed to silently agree. "alright," he said.

"there might be some pie left, if you'd like a slice?"

"that sounds lovely! too bad Gwaine isn't here."

"That's what I said about my friend!"

I'm a college student who enjoys writing in my free time (I know this is like code for "I'm a bad writer with 2 stories and then I drop off the grid" but I promise I genuinely write for stress relief, and I am very stressed at school so we'll be good!)

I mostly write fluff and angst x reader

As of now, I don't think I'll be writing nsfw mostly because my ace ass hasn't even been in a relationship and I want to become more comfortable with writing in general first.

That being said! I'm 100% here for short nsfw headcannons or asks so please minors DNI. If I do end up writing any smut it'll probably end up on ao3, though I will post a link here.

I'm not comfortable writing for or talking about minors, though there are a few characters I am ok with writing for if they're aged up (Damian Wayne or certain Persona characters off the top of my head)

Non-con is a hard no. Yandere is almost always a no. Dub-con is on thin fucking ice and usually depends on a whole lot of things.

Sometimes Tumblr eats asks!! If you think you sent something that was totally reasonable and I don't respond to it in like a couple weeks, try sending it again!

(at the end of the day, if you send something I'm not comfortable with, I'll let you know, or in extreme cases I just won't respond, so don't stress about it too much!)

Honestly I'm going to be writing either way, and I really just want to get my stories out on the odd chance someone has the same interest. Some of these stories are kinda niche or the reader has traits that I personally have or want for them. If someone enjoys them, great! If it's not your cup of tea, that's fine too! They'll be here until Tumblr gets sold off for the 57th time and loses so much money the shoestring holding it together falls apart.

Feb 22 - Gamed a bunch, mostly No Man's Sky but also started playing a tiny Timberborn map (the one called Diorama), just because. Made saffron risotto for supper, with ground beef for the protein.

Feb 23 - More gaming. I had a log of lasagne in the oven before my brother let me know he wouldn't be home for dinner, so I had some of that for supper, and the rest went in the fridge for lunches/snacks.

Feb 24 - What a shocker, even more gaming. Still farting around with the tiny Timberborn map; reached my goal (of capping the one badwater source and setting up a way to direct water way from the city during badtides) but decided I wanted to try for a couple additional goals. Mainly, putting up hazard barriers along the badwater river so I could still use it to generate power without poisoning adjacent lands, and then to see how many happiness-raising items I could build before running out of usable map space. Made ground beef vindaloo, barberry rice, and steamed green beans & peas for supper.

Feb 25 - More tiny map (very close to running out of space) and also, yes, yet more NMS. Made a vat of tomato-vegetable sauce to freeze. Added some more books to my library. Supper was pork ribs, mashed potatoes, and mixed steamed vegetables.

I'm so fucking angry and I feel so betrayed and most of all, above all else I feel absolutely hurt. Heart wretched sadness. I don't understand why hes so insistent that I was being a dick. Over text message. Don't get me wrong, I can see how it can 100% be read in a passive aggressive tone which I interpret to mean kinda sarcastic? I'm such a fucking weirdo, I shouldn't have danced? stimmed? whatever it is when I tried to talk. That "no" and that look, that LOOK, it's literally seared into my brain. I'm so fucking awkward and everyone hates me and i don't know what to do.

I don't trust a word Bryan says anymore. Not out of lack of sincerity but due to lack of reliability to deliver. There are so many misunderstandings between us and truths that he has to face on his own. It's been about a week since we learned we both wanted to see each other while he was dying. My messages and requests and pleas to see him werent relayed. Some things are bigger than a really shitty decision and DYING is one of those things.

Thank God I use this site as some sort of diary because I had a draft saved from the night of/after everything where I specifically mention I don't know how to correct someone I've just injured. The fact that everyone is convinced I'm lying is hard. This isn't new context I'm magically providing, it's just the first time I've been able to relay anything and be heard.

Nothing excuses what I did which is why I'm taking the necessary steps to fix it. We were already separated, we were actively having two different conversations. I'm not even the one pushing to see if we can still make things work. Why the hell would I try and fabricate shit? I'm with you guys FOR LIFE. I hate all of this.

It's the conversation with my friend that made me realize I may actually be wrong in my view of the situation. Because that friend is logical and fair and I trusted that if they had all the data and still felt the same then I must be missing something that I have to face. It sent me on the path of facing the truth and now nothing I say is believed. If it weren't so damn heartbreaking I'd make a quip about it being ironic.

I could go on for days but I know it doesn't matter. I lost a friend and I'm hurt and pissed about it.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A South Carolina man was found guilty Friday of killing a Black transgender woman in the nation’s first federal trial over a hate crime based on gender identity.

After deliberating for roughly four hours, jurors convicted Daqua Lameek Ritter of a hate crime for the murder of Dime Doe in 2019. Ritter was also found guilty of using a firearm in connection with the fatal shooting and obstructing justice.

A sentencing date has not yet been scheduled. Ritter faces a maximum of life imprisonment without parole.

The four-day trial over Doe’s killing centered on the secret sexual relationship between her and Ritter, the latter of whom had grown agitated by the exposure of their affair in the small town of Allendale, according to witness testimony and text messages obtained by the FBI. Prosecutors accused Ritter of shooting Doe three times with a .22 caliber handgun to prevent further revelation of their romance.

Doe’s close friends testified that it was no secret in Allendale that she had begun her social transition as a woman shortly after graduating high school. She started dressing in skirts, getting her nails done and wearing extensions. She and her friends discussed boys they were seeing — including Ritter, whom she met during one of his many summertime visits from New York to stay with family.

But text messages obtained by the FBI suggested that Ritter sought to keep their relationship under wraps as much as possible, prosecutors said. He reminded her to delete their communications from her phone, and hundreds of texts sent in the month before her death were removed.

Shortly before Doe’s death, their exchanges grew tense. In one message from July 29, 2019, she complained that Ritter did not reciprocate her generosity. He replied that he thought they had an understanding that she didn’t need the “extra stuff.”

He also told her that Delasia Green, his main girlfriend at the time, had insulted him with a homophobic slur after learning of the affair. In a July 31 text, Doe said she felt used and Ritter should never have let Green find out about them.

Green said that when he showed up days later at her cousin’s house in Columbia, he was dirty, smelly and couldn’t stop pacing. Her cousin’s boyfriend gave Ritter a ride to the bus stop. Before he left, Green asked him if he had killed Doe.
