“Who was included in the original tournament ?” We started with 64 opponents readied their duelling pistols to defend their own hotness! I included men from Pride and Prejudice 1940/1995/2005, Sense and Sensibility 1971/1995/2008, Emma 1996/1996/2009/2020, Northanger Abbey 2007, Persuasion 1995/2007/2022 and Mansfield Park 1983/ 1999/2007 as well as a couple from Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, one from Sanditon and one from Love and Friendship/Lady Susan. Most are the main hero/anti-heroes but there are a few others scattered in too.

Have you included Spin Offs ?”  In the Silver Foxes Poll - Yes! However the only strictly none Jane Austen adaptation in the original poll were from Pride and Prejudice and Zombies because it is set in the correct time period, the characters are basically the same in terms of personality and I thought the casting was great! In terms of Sandition, Sidney Parker is the only man I have entered as he is mentioned in the book as well as the TV so sadly as much as I love the other Sanditon Men they aren't included!

"How have you paired up the men ?" I did start to try and vaguely seed the men but I will be honest I did get a bit slap dash towards the end which means a couple of the match-ups are maybe a bit too even but fun I hope!

What records will you be listening in 2020? “I don't listen to many pop records now really. I tend to listen to film soundtracks by people like John Barry and Bernard Hermann.”

Will there still be records? “I think there will be records still. There'll also be many more video discs, and holophonic records, like the one Psychic TV brought out, may be more widely available.

What will your job be in 2020? “Hopefully by 2020 I won't have to work. And I hope nobody else does either.”

Will The Rolling Stones still be around? “If the Rolling Stones are still around they'll be in their seventies. Imagine Mick Jagger and Keith Richard with white hair and walking sticks. It would be grotesque.”

What will you be wearing? “Probably my old leather jacket and jeans.”

Will boys still be boys and girls still be girls? “Yes I think so. And they'll always be those inbetween.”

What will you have in the front room besides the TV and the stereo? “It would be nice if eveyone had a Brion Gysin dream machine. They have the same effect as LSD, but without taking chemicals. There's also the possibility that by that time we'll have 3D TV. They've already started work on it in Japan.”

What instruments will people be playing? “I think instruments will be pretty much the same as they are now. But the emphasis could be on microtones rather than the conventional tones and semi-tones in a scale. That opens up a whole spectrum of sound, rather like having grey notes on a piano.”

Will people still be going to concerts? “Yes. But people will be sick of everything being really loud. There'll be different ways to stimulate a crowd. Various doctors are already researching in psychoacoustics, although nobody in pop uses them. It's a lot more exciting and it wouldn't damage you.”

What's your favourite science fiction book and film? “I like J.G.Ballard's books - particularly Crash, The Atrocity Exhibition and a story called The Concentration City. For films I like Scanners and A Clockwork Orange.

Do you believe in UFO's? “Yes. Although I've never seen one. I'm sure there must be other forms of life that travel about like we send rockets to the moon.”

What sort of robot would you like t have around the house? “I'd like a robot I could programme telepathically. But I wouldn't want it to look human. That would be too much like having a slave.”

Will Big Brother be watching us? “Big Brother has been watching us for several years. Already lots of government computers are linked together, the growth of home computers will give a better picture of how we live and make it much easier for the authorities.”

Bearing in mind the current nuclear debate, so you think we will still be around by 2020? “I think it depends on America. People are paranoid about the Russians but I think America is the biggest threat to mankind.”

I would not be me without Finch Cortes so here's Finch in the Olympics AU

So at the time of the 2024 Paris Olympics Finch is 18 and competing for Team USA in Archery, but he's been semi well known in olympic spaces since Tokyo when he was 15

He's known since he got into archery as a kid that he wanted to be an olympian, and that's partially bc that's obviously a very cool thing to be, and partially because he's obsessed with the Olympics as a concept

He got fairly well known on Tokyo 2020 tiktok for being kind of an olympics expert, making videos giving a basic run down on each sport, the events within them, how they're scored, and who to look out for, and between Tokyo and Paris continued to make videos about the games with more of a focus on social/political/economic factors as well as just updates and general information

He's not so much interested in athlete drama unless it's institutional, he's more there to be the one stop shop for olympics knowledge

So Paris 2024 comes around and he's posting his sports guides etc (pre-filmed) until someone's watching the archery and is like wait that's the guy from tiktok

And yeah he definitely has a heavy focus on archery but everyone has interests doesn't mean the kid's an olympian

So he gets a bunch of comments being like ??? bro are you patrick cortes ??? and he's like yeah here's my bronze medal and also here's a ton of information on the Paris 2024 medals I'm going to do a series on medals throughout olympic history after the games

Kuk Kok Leung is a veteran director who started his career in Hong Kong's TVB. He's been nominated for the prestigious Magnolia Award and is known for wuxia and serious, warm-blooded historical dramas (he's adapted 7 out of 8 Jinyong novels). His works include...

He's also a frequent collaborator and producer on Johnny To films, including Election, Election 2, Mad Detective.

So you get the picture. He makes TV for men who are ready to bleed for their country. This all makes him a really interesting choice for TTEOTM (and tells you a bit about the ambition and creative vision of the producers), especially since all his more recent idol dramas were widely panned.

Wang Haiqi, Director & Action Director

We don't know too much about Wang Haiqi because TTEOTM is actually his directorial debut. He started his career in stunts and has worked as the action coordinator on Ashes of Love (2018) and Immortality (unreleased) alongside Luo Yunxi. He was also a stunts man/double in a bunch of Hollywood films, including Mulan (2020) and the Foreigner (2017) through the Jacky Chan stunts team.

He's responsible for most of the action/battle scenes in TTEOTM, and his experience working on films probably explains why the fight sequences are unusually cinematic for TV.

Luan Hexin, Art Director

Luan Hexin is a Magnolia Award nominated art director best known for Huanyu productions, including Story of Yanxi Palace, Winter Begonia, and Royal Feast. He's a serious art guy, as you can tell from this interview.

(Note: Huanyu is Bai Lu's management company. There is a rumor that Luan Hexin is part of Bai Lu's "dowry", but the parties have since clarified that Luan was brought in after she was cast.)

He's also an interesting choice, having never worked on costume fantasies before and better known for his authentic representation of the look and feel of bygone eras.

Huang Wei, Costume Designer

Huang Wei is one of the most sought-after costume designers working today, especially for xianxias. She started her career as a Vogue China editor and was in fact the person responsible for TTEOTM's Dunhuang-inspired aesthetics.

Her better known works include A Dream of Splendor (2022), One and Only (2020), Love O2O (2015), Back from the Brink (2023) as well as a bunch of highly anticipated dramas like Immortality and The Last Immortal. (The joke on Chinese internet is that there is an "expensive" vs. "cheap" version of Huang Wei costumes - her design can be much simpler on lower-budget productions.)

I'd like to think that after designing 40 mostly white costumes for Luo Yunxi in Immortality, she decided to go nuts on color with Tantai Jin.

Tsang Ming Fai, Makeup Designer

Tsang Ming Fai is a big name in the xianxia circuit. He and his team of “students" have worked on a large number of costume dramas, including Ashes of Love (2018), Love & Redemption (2020), Under the Power (2019), Noble Aspirations (2016), Sword of Legends (2014), as well as the... wait for it... unreleased Immortality and Luo Yunxi's currently filming drama Follow Your Heart.

He's sadly been receiving a lot of hate in fan circles over the heavy makeup in TTEOTM (which may or may not have been his call). What I do appreciate is his ability to help actors craft distinct characters with varied hair and makeup choices. For example you can distinguish between different Luo Yunxi characters and their personalities with Runyu's clean cut tie-back half ponytail (ethereal & straight laced), Tantai Jin's slightly brown hair, messy bangs and heavy eye shadow (dark & sickly), Chu Wanning's angular eyebrows and geometric hair puff (strict & proud).

He also excels at creating unusual, iconic looks even for side characters, e.g. Chen Yao's dark lipstick paired with gothic jewelry in Immortality and Chen Duling's retro updo in TTEOTM.

japanese actor, got popular for her work in the 2000s as a teen actor

battle royale (2000), she was 16 at the time and did some of the best acting in the entire movie imo, and just like. look at the still. if i was there i'd just accept death

kill bill (2003), the film she was nominated for TWO awards for even tho she was a side character and WON one of them (best fight). she was amazing and was my favourite character between both movies. she was the best possible casting for the role (gogo yubari) and i was fucking devastated when she died (sry for spoilers, it's a great movie u should go watch it, but it was a plot death and was obvious from her introduction)

now, like, sry to be a fake fan but those are the only movies with her i've watched so far (this will change soon) but here are a few other notable ones:

shikoku (1999) - haven't been able to find a copy of this online (not even tgx), but she plays another... less sane character, the horror of this horror movie. if anyone can find it online somewhere please reach out bc it seems like an interesting movie

ju-on: the curse (2000) - this one is available online! unfortunately, it's v low quality and is likely a rip of a rip of a rip, but subtitles are pretty decent. haven't watched the whole thing but kuriyama was brilliant in this too! despite the fact that it's a rlly cheap and shitty horror movie, she had excellent acting and was obviously into the role

she has since played several other roles in several movies, shows, and has voice acted/dubbed for some projects. she's also going to be in the upcoming season of a semi-popular japanese tv show called Ōoku, coming out in 2024.

ALSO sidepoint, i forgot to mention this earlier, but she is a badass and could beat most people on here in a fight

and, last but certainly, absolutely, definitely not least, she has released several songs and even the 2011 album circus which is really fucking good and you need to listen to it right fucking now, please and thank you (if you're wondering, it's pop/rock)

It’s available as a digitally and physically copy, and has a total of FIVE tracks. "I'M THE STANDARD", being its tittle track. MELLY promoted the album for four weeks, having performed the tittle track on various music shows, while the other four besides were promoted through live acapella and band performances posted to the groups official youtube page.

Sadly I'M THE STANDARD did not received ANY music show wins. Much to the company and fans dismay. However they did stay extremely active on youtube and tiktok in their period of promotions. Their physical album only sold around 2,500 versions out of the 8,000 that were originally made.

––  Honeyco had a MAJOR panic attack when IM THE STANDARD didn't chart in the top 50 in the first 10 days of its release. Unlike Lost Ravine and Cry Babies, Melly was their first group to 'flop'. So as you can guess, it was hectic and pretty scary for the girls seeing their company panic like that.

––  IM THE STANDARD charted at 64th on the chart, living in that spot for 2 weeks before being demoted to 89th place. Which it stayed for 2 more weeks. Before leaving the charts.

-- The girls were nominated for ROOKIE OF THE YEAR on KMA, but sadly they did not place.

-- For this era Sooah rocked pastel orange hair. In which she boldly stated that she disliked and preferred black.

-- The girls released the first episode of their variety show 'Make It MELLY' which airs every Thursday at 21:00 KST.

-- The girls also released 2 MV teasers, the official MV, a fan chant guide, IM THE STANDARD jacket making film, an official dance practice, an MV reaction, a album unboxing with the members, an dance MV performance ver. And the making MV film.

-- Nancy vlogged a lot in this era. Sharing her experience producing in the studio and her daily life with the other members. She filmed at least one blog with each member except for Sooah. Saying something along the lines of "Sooah would prefer if the entire blog was about her, and it isn't, so shes not invited". of course this was taken as a joke, fans knowing that Sooah had an extremely extrovert and 'all camera must be on me' personality while filming.

-- Meili and Cupid released a few cover songs from popular kpop groups.

-- A video of Melly making small mistakes in their dance practice went semi-viral within melly's fandom, Jellies. Netizens pointing out that Hinata was having difficulty keeping up with the others members, despite the dance being described as rather easy.

-- Nancy revealed her unexpected releationship with DOLLIFY member Jaxie, the two filmed two tiktoks together one to IM THE STANDARD and the other to the most resent DOLLIFY song. Jaxie was also featured on one of Nancy's blogs for a short second. Nancy mentioning that she got a text from Jaxie asking if she could go out for boba with her soon.

Kaiju Week in Review (June 18-24, 2023)

The big news of the week, of course, was Netflix finally releasing Skull Island, the first new Monsterverse story in over two years. It's a surprisingly standalone piece, with no Monarch and minimal references to Kong: Skull Island, and going off his Twitter, creator Brian Duffield largely prefers to let the work speak for itself. I have quibbles with some of the creature designs—not enough florafauna!—and the characters can be too flippant about their life-threatening circumstances, but overall I had a good time. Annie's a great character—think Saeko from Son of Godzilla as a bloodthirsty teenager—and the obligatory Titan nemesis is a cut above most of the Monsterverse's original creatures.

As for its future, Season 2 is already written and recorded, but won't happen unless Netflix sees big enough viewing numbers for Season 1. I'm frustrated by that, especially given how many loose ends the season finale had, but it's pretty typical stuff from the company.

Dismal news about the American Shin Ultraman Blu-ray/DVD from Cleopatra Entertainment: they didn't bother to include translations for the ample on-screen Japanese text. That was enough for me to cancel my preorder; I tend to be pretty tolerant of the various unforced errors by the companies releasing this stuff, but that level of laziness (the translations already exist!) just renders the discs pointless in my eyes.

Toho is crowdfunding another Showa suit replica for a character's 50th anniversary this year... Jet Jaguar! If successful (or semi-successful, like last year's Gigan campaign), it'll feature in a new short film to premiere on November 3, as has been tradition since 2020. Interesting that they went for Jet Jaguar over Megalon; I suppose he'd be cheaper to produce, and the largest film studio in Japan seems hellbent on hamstringing these wonderful little shorts.

Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons #1 is out. Hard to judge it so far as it's mostly setup.

In other news related to Godzilla vs. Megalon's 50th, Bandai will release a Movie Monster Series figure of the 1973 Godzilla (MegaroGoji) on July 28 as a Godzilla Store exclusive. Pretty big news, as they've only released figures of the tweaked '74 and '75 suits previously, and those were back in 2003 and 2004, respectively. NECA didn't get to this one either.

In 2016, Kate Bosworth and Michael Polish purchased the film rights to Greg King’s book, ‘Sharon Tate and The Manson Murders.’

In 2018, she announced on Instagram that they would be making a film simply titled ‘Tate.’ The film would focus on Sharon’s life, and Sharon’s sister Debra would be a producer. Subsequent IG posts and articles implied that production was imminent, if not already underway.

Multiple IG fan pages said that they had DM conversations with Polish in which he claimed the film was finished and a trailer would drop by Thanksgiving 2018. I had one DM conversation with Polish which basically consisted of him sending me an article criticizing Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” which hadn’t been filmed yet. It had only been announced and plot details were still being kept secret.

By 2019, Bosworth and Polish stopped talking about the film altogether. Debra Tate made a few cryptic statements on her social media in which she said she didn’t know what was happening with the film.

In 2021, he was sued by art director Jack Renner who alleged he was assaulted by the director during the filming of “Bring On The Dancing Horses” in 2020. The suit also said that Bosworth witnessed the alleged assault and screamed at Renner’s wife, the COVID coordinator on the project, when she and her husband were leaving the set.

In her 2022 court documents, Bosworth said that she and Polish separated in 2021. Their divorce was finalized this year.

Since 2019, people have asked Bosworth about the state of ‘Tate’ on her IG page on a semi regular basis—and never received any reply.

Today I received a DM from her on IG finally confirming what I’ve believed for over three years, the biopic is not happening.

Georgia Tennant is recalling the moment, at the start of the pandemic, when she realised she was going to be locked down with her husband. ‘David was supposed to be filming in South Africa,’ explains the 38-year-old actor and producer. ‘But then there was a series of phone calls, South Africa shut down, and he turned to me and said: “I’m not going back”.’

Georgia and I share a look that speaks volumes: about the slo-mo dawning experienced by wives all over the world when it became clear they would be trapped with the man they’d promised to love and cherish – but not, crucially, have lunch with every day for weeks on end. About what became more like the premise of a twisted reality TV show when those weeks turned into months

‘I remember having this sudden realisation…’ Glancing at her Scottish stage and screen star husband, Georgia pauses, blue eyes wide, and at this point I’m already smiling because I think I know what’s coming. ‘That, oh my gosh, David’s just going to be here, the whole time.’ I nod compassionately. ‘Which obviously I’d never had before.’ Another nod. We’ve all been there. 

‘And just thinking: that’s really exciting!’

Oh… It’s a needle-across-vinyl moment and I stop mid-nod and stare. Georgia and I are not on the same page. In fact, she seems to be reading an entirely different book: this wife can’t think of anything nicer than being holed up with her husband of 12 years.

‘We just really like each other,’ she says once all three of us have stopped laughing. ‘Even now, we like hanging out with each other more than we like hanging out with anyone else.’ Some might say that’s a pretty good basis for a marriage. ‘Exactly. And when all the kids are around it’s like a commune here, which I love.’

With a semi-apologetic shrug the 52-year-old Doctor Who and Broadchurch star confirms, ‘It’s true.’ There’s no way around it: he too just really likes his wife. ‘In fact, the more time we spend together the more we get on,’ he says. And although I’m not sure I can deal with any more bombshell revelations so early on in an interview, this is probably just as well. Because the Tennants didn’t just end up marooned on the couch together for the duration of the pandemic – with their five children, Ty, 21, Olive, 12, Wilfred, 10, Doris, seven, and Birdie, three – but filming a lockdown TV comedy series, Staged, which became the surprise summer comedy hit of 2020.

The whimsical meta sitcom follows David’s fractious friendship with Welsh actor Michael Sheen as they plan various ill-fated ventures from either side of the world on Zoom. Only this isn’t reality TV, but a hammed-up version. Its two actors forever making a drama out of a crisis, as their partners watch, bemused, occasionally stepping in when things get out of hand.

Georgia and Swedish actress Anna Lundberg’s attitude is probably best described by the bumper sticker quote: ‘Behind every successful man is a woman rolling her eyes’, and audiences liked them so much that their roles get progressively bigger with each series.

Amazingly, Staged outlived the pandemic premise it was built on and I’m here today, in a sleek home office at the back of the couple’s west London home, to talk about the third and final series, which is currently airing on BBC One. Having spent the past 24 hours binge-watching six episodes of the show, I’m slightly thrown by how dialled-down the real David and Georgia are compared with their on-screen personas. He’s far less wild-haired and neurotic in real life – perhaps in part because after a trip to the dental hygienist this morning, he’s not yet been allowed his coffee – and she’s just as beautiful, with the same poise she maintains throughout Staged, but more amused than exasperated, today, by her man.

‘This wasn’t our first project together,’ David reminds me when I ask whether working on the show together over three years didn’t tip this perfect partnership over the edge. ‘After all, Georgia and I did meet on set.’

It’s true that it was while he was playing the Tenth Doctor in 2008 that he met his future wife, who was cast as his genetically engineered daughter in the BBC show. Does Georgia still get endless joy from that? ‘Oh, I’ve had 15 years of joy from that,’ she flings back. ‘Of course, I was already 900 years old at the time,’ David deadpans.

After the Doctor Who years, the pair went on to co-star in the 2017 film, You, Me and Him, which Georgia also produced. Still, when it came to filming Staged, he got ‘incredibly nervous’, he admits. ‘I think we were quite anxious about what that would… do, weren’t we?’

His wife murmurs her agreement, although like her Staged character she seems serene and in control and it’s easy to imagine her talking David down from various ledges in daily life. 

For all their harmony, they seem quite different. Certainly, they come from different backgrounds. As the daughter of actors Peter Davison and Sandra Dickinson, Georgia was born into the profession, making her debut at 15 in ITV’s Peak Practice, before going on to appear in shows such as Where the Heart Is, Like Father Like Son and The Last Detective.

Bathgate-born David, meanwhile, is the son of a Presbyterian church minister, who attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and established himself with the Royal Shakespeare Company and National Theatre early on. After winning the game-changing role of Doctor Who at 34, he has continued to demonstrate his versatility as an actor, flitting from hard-hitting TV dramas like Des in 2020 (playing serial killer Dennis Nilsen) and Litvinenko in 2022 (as the former Russian spy) to playing a demon in Amazon’s ongoing fantasy series Good Omens. Then there’s his stage work: the recent West End play Good, in which he played a professor drawn into Nazism, and a forthcoming stint as Macbeth at London’s Donmar Warehouse in December.

Despite his success, the actor has suffered from acute anxiety ever since he was a boy, fretting about everything from ‘not being good enough’ and ‘being found out’ (as he told one interviewer in 2019) to the loss of anonymity he knew he’d experience back in 2005, when he was cast as a TV hero he’d idolised from the age of three. ‘Because with a show like Doctor Who,’ he tells me, ‘it’s on a different scale.’ 

As anyone who suffers from anxiety knows, the primary, all-consuming worry is that everything ‘probably will go wrong’ at any given moment. In 2018 something did go very wrong when Georgia was diagnosed with cervical cancer – something she shared in her blog, despite usually being a private person. ‘I thought it was easier than having to phone everyone and tell them,’ she explains today.

‘It was a very weird experience,’ muses David. ‘Because we found out the bad news after it had been dealt with, so we had the relief at the same time as the horror.’ 

Following an abnormal smear test result, Georgia had a biopsy and a cervical excision to remove the tissue causing concern. It was only after that procedure that test results showed the cells had been cancerous. David pauses, looking at his wife. ‘At least we were spared the prospect of living with, “You’ve got this, and can it be caught?” But I still have these flashbacks of “What if you hadn’t…?”’ He shakes his head. ‘I don’t think I acknowledged at the time how serious it could have been.’

The couple were too busy ‘just dealing with each stage’, David goes on. ‘The slightly funky test and then going in and having the biopsy.’ 

‘But I did make you answer the phone, when we were waiting to hear [the results],’ Georgia cuts in. ‘I obviously knew there was going to be something, so David got the news first: that it was bad but that they’d got rid of it. And then he made me get on the phone so that I could hear it from the doctor myself, because he knew that was something I needed to do.’

Afterwards, ‘both of us were just numb,’ David murmurs. ‘It was such a Sliding Doors moment. Even a few months later it could have been too late.’ 

‘Which is why now,’ Georgia concludes wryly, ‘I’ll tell everyone with a cervix: go and get yourself checked.’

With the couple’s eldest son Ty now a successful actor – having starred in the TV series War of the Worlds and HBO’s House of the Dragon – and Olive, then 10, making her big-screen debut in Kenneth Branagh’s Oscar-winning film Belfast, two years ago, I’m curious to know how they both feel about their brood following in their footsteps? ‘I just want them to be happy and to be able to survive in the world,’ Georgia says. ‘So if acting is what they want to do…’

It helps that the industry feels fairer now in almost every way, they believe, and we segue into a discussion about inclusivity and ‘real representation’ in acting – meaning, for example, that only LGBTQ actors should play LGBTQ roles. Until we’re all caught up, David maintains, ‘you have to protect those spaces for actors who come from those communities’.

It also helps that the industry is a safer place for women now than it was 10 years ago, says Georgia. ‘Because it 

definitely is,’ she adds. ‘Things happened to me when I was younger that I now realise were not great, but at the time I thought it was all part of it – that I had to laugh them off. I’m talking about situations that made me feel uncomfortable,’ she explains. ‘Now I would be able to say so, but at the time the dialogue just wasn’t there. And I don’t think any of our kids would have to feel like that now. Even if they did, they would have the words and the people behind them to say: “that’s not OK”.’

David is currently filming the Disney+ series Rivals, based on Jilly Cooper’s famous bonkbuster, he tells me. ‘And there’s an “intimacy co-ordinator” on that because there’s quite a lot of shagging, so everyone’s being very appropriate and careful.’ 

But doesn’t it feel strange having your sex scenes ‘co-ordinated’? ‘Oh, it’s ludicrous.’ He grins. ‘Because it means you’re making the most intimate, private moments very compartmentalised and that there’s someone there asking the embarrassing questions nobody did historically – but that’s because you’re not doing these things with your actual partner. So that’s another thing that has got better over the years.’ He tilts his head to one side, narrows his eyes: ‘That said, there are still lots of reasons not to become an actor.’

This seems as good a place to end as any, and as the Tennants take me back through the garden to a side gate, Georgia tells her husband she’s ‘going for a manicure – and you have to come with me’. When I leave they’re still bickering gently, with David asking: ‘Why do I have to come?’ I don’t catch his wife’s reply, but I suspect it’s just because she really likes him.

ooh thanks for the ask! Honestly I consume media across all genres, so I'm not sure if there's a specific vibe you're after, so I'll just list a couple of different things I really enjoy:

all of Donna Tartt's books obviously :) TGF and TLF are my favourites, but TSH is of course a classic

Wind, Sand and Stars by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (referenced in TGF and is the most beautiful prose work I've ever read, no joke)

Orlando by Virginia Woolf (incredibly funny but very heartfelt and is a beautiful reflection on humanity, time, youth, and identity)

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton (can't believe I only read that for the first time this year)

Max by Avi Duckor-Jones (written by a New Zealand author and is a wonderful coming-of-age story featuring themes of sexuality, family, art, and indigenous NZ culture)

The Lost Boys (1987) - iconic, summer vibes are amazing, love me some campy 80's films, the Walk This Way hazing scene lives in my head rent-free

My Flesh and Blood (2003) - a documentary film about a woman named Susan who fosters a group of children, many of whom have disabilities or terminal illness. I love the way it was filmed and how it portrayed the realities of the situation, neither glamorising it or revelling in misery.

Mysterious Skin (2004) - adaption of the book I mentioned before. HUGE tw for sexual abuse/pedophilia. It's extremely respectful of the issues at hand, and is overall a beautiful work of art with incredible performances

yeah for sure!

basically for a couple years I would pick up roles as a background extra in random movies. terrible pay but i always had a good time. I was in movies like Black Panther, Pitch Perfect 3, Love Simon, and The Conjuring 3 (as well as a couple random movies that no one watched). my scenes were cut every single time but you can see me in the background of one scene in Black Panther

and the scene I was MOST excited for in Conjuring 3, seen only in the trailer

That's me!! In the dead center of the crowd of ghosts!! Lorraine was supposed to then throw the curtains open and it's actually the paparazzi and we start taking photos of her and ed. I was DEAD CENTER. MY FACE. ON THE BIG SCREEN.

but whatever.

the scene goes on to the two of them running out of the motel and into their car and we chase them with cameras. because of that, when we were calling cut and hold, all of us were kind of standing around, Patrick and Vera included. I was a nervous wreck all day because I love Patrick anyway and my husband (then fiancé) and I had a joke that Patrick was going to sing at our wedding.

this was my chance, I thought, for some damn reason

so, down time between shooting. I tried as hard as I could to be cool and casually start talking to Patrick Wilson. Obviously he's super wary of some rando extra talking to him out of nowhere, especially when I looked like this

but I mentioned I knew Leigh (Whannell) and he was like oh?? how? and I said we've been talking on twitter for a bit (he then was like -_- Oh.) and I mentioned how Leigh was involved in my engagement story (true). Patrick laughed, congratulated me, and asked when the date was. I panicked and said January 2020. (Humongous lie)

I then did the stupidest thing possible and tried to explain the Sing At My Wedding idea/joke. you've never seen an adult man get so uncomfortable so fast. I tried to cover my ass and say it was Leigh's idea (when will the lies end). Patrick did not believe me.

and then we had to go back to filming like this was a normal day.

the shoot ended a couple hours later and as Vera and Patrick left set, he waved at me and said good luck with the wedding! what a guy! thank you for being so gracious!

"I'll see you there!" I called back, like a fucking idiot.

Patrick mumbled some uncomfortable "Uh huh..."

and then I rolled underneath a semi truck and died the end.
