Toonami Weekly Recap 10/14/2023

FLCL Shoegaze EP#03 Finale - Gene-Bato (Generational Battle): Kana tries desperately to stop Harumi from bleeding out on top of the tower as the various ghosts become visible across town. Meanwhile, Harumi becomes a purple ghost, and is absorbed by the giant purple bird ghost atop the tower, seeing visions of herself buying candy with a long-lost friend and riding on a space shuttle to a colony on Mars. Masaki loses control of his N.O. Channel as the world begins to merge with an alternate universe, but the power of the channel threatens to explode out of control. Suddenly, a giant, flying. snake-like creature bursts out of Masaki's forehead and swallows the power source, forcing a shutdown and splitting both universes apart. Masaki looks around for Harumi, only to discover that everyone on this world but him has forgotten her existence. Some time later, Masaki can still see the ghosts everywhere, as they have become invisible to everyone but him again, and despises this world. But at the end, Masaki finds himself able to cross over into the world where Harumi exists and shows them his sketchbook, thanks to a mini version of the snake from before, named Atomsk.

#poorly drawn mdzs #mdzs #wei wuxian #sect leader yao #This episode has a lot of scenes I know people are excited for and starting here seems odd but here me out:#The sheer hilarity of this opening scene was too good to not give a highlight to.#Dare I say it? I think this is THE most underrated scene in the whole series.#You have one guy flashing WWX his prosthetic leg. Another complains about his dead parents.#And the third guy? He has no personal grievances at all. He's just here to be included.#You cannot get better comedic timing than that. Sect leader Yao you will always be famous to me.#There is also something to be said about how this scene is about shifting blame and holding a false trial.#And we also have the main theme about rumours vs truth in how Sect leader Yao is only here based on what he's been told to beleive.#And WWX is so exhausted by the blame! He was one breath away from saying 'form a queue and I'll take your complaints one by one'#WWX (overall) didn't do those things directly but he's the one the responsibility falls on.#Despite the fact that the first siege was *not* incited by him. It's like hitting someone and getting mad your fist got hurt.#What a brilliantly frustrating scene!#Anyways next up are the long awaited pheonix mountain flashabck scenes. We finally made it.#and AHH Season 3!!! The last stretch! Thank you all for rooting me on up until this point!

Rewatching Adventure Time, I can't help but think so much Princess Bubblegum discourse would be non-existent if people actually watched the show to completion instead of randomly hyperfocusing on some of PB's bad deeds.

There's a very bizarre and commonly held belief that Princess Bubblegum did terrible things and got away with it, that nobody held her accountable. When the show makes a point, repeatedly, that Princess Bubblegum is well meaning but deeply flawed, and to some characters, straight up evil.

I see fans point to "The Cooler" a lot as proof that PB is an irredeemable character, and while it is her worst act in the entire show.... I think people forgot that that was the point. Near the end of the episode she stops spying on people in Ooo because it was an invasion of privacy. In another episode she's called out for exploiting some aliens and lets them go. She feels ashamed that her own people are terrified of her. She loses her entire kingdom, and realizes she needs to get her shit together.

I'm pretty critical of shows that are way too lenient on flawed female characters but Princess Bubblegum isn't one of them. She's awesome, and heavily misunderstood.

#txt #and i wouldnt even say this is a fandom problem because most fans who are actually dedicated to the series love her #its people who stopped watching after like season 5 and then watched a few eps and then the finale #its just a version of PB in their head that doesnt represent her entire character #like damn i rewatched rattleballs and this episode fans treat as proof that she's immoral was just the equivalent of doing a couple recalls #or how lemongrab was 'abandoned' when he is a grown ass man who physically and verbally abuses her people.#AND SHE STILL WENT OUT OF HER WAY TO PROVIDE HIM A KINGDOM AND SOME FOOD.#thats not even getting into the massive misunderstanding around her relationship with finn #how finn only survived the first fight with the lich because she gave him a sweater out of concern for his health #and then there's people complaining about her doing necromancy??? ARE YOU SERIOUS #FINN KILLS PEOPLE. LET THE GIRL DO SOME NECROMANCY
