fixed a small inconvenient site issue that i'd been stressing about for a bit. i was worried it was going to cause issues with reading new updates but i've found a solution :]

#text #site revamp devlog #in short it was just a cache issue with the volume data file not updating #in other words the navigation buttons would only work when you cleared cache #which was annoying #but it's been fixed :] hopefully it won't cause issues in the future lol

windows/linux rant

unrelated to SMT or anything on my blog currently I guess...

I keep seeing the "prep for windows 11" thing show up on my computer, and it upsets me every time that you have to have a microsoft account to install it.

windows 10 reaches end of support next year~~

I hope by then the computer I"m using will actually let me run linux on it instead of an outdated windows os....

I want to run linux on this machine so bad but whenever I try to install it, it seems to install fine and dandy

and then it won't boot

I've snooped around in the BIOS, disabled the "smart startup" or "secure startup" or whatever else I thought was borking the boot for linux.

but it still won't boot~~~

and sadly i've got games on here that only work on windows anyway.

I'd much rather be able to stay relatively safe online and maintain an OS, than play the games I bought on steam....

something is preventing linux from booting on this machine, it upsets me when I think about it, and it upsets me more when I try to install linux and it goes fine, but then doesn't boot

cause I have to take the time to reinstall windows again.....

why computer? why won't you let linux boot? what do I need to do to you to have linux actually boot? I don't understand...

*confused screaming*

running an ASUS ROG Stryx gaming pc that I bought on impulse years ago. so you'd think linux mint would boot just fine, right??

how do I fix it? if I can fix it? especially if I don't destroy the data on the second hard drive of this thing. I've got stuff I don't want to lose on here, preferably....

stop putting see results in the polls you're skewing the data. if you want to see results so bad then either vote sincerely or queue the post to the date the poll finishes. be patient and stop skewing data especially if it's not for a majority demographic you are part of

ahhhh I missed you too!! Life has been insistent on grinding me to a paste but we perservere

#life has been so so so hard <3 #i've never fully recovered from long covid so an average workday was leaving me absolutely drained #and on top of that i had an incident where i was trying to look into a prior auth for a patient #the kid was trans and cried on the phone because he was afraid his insurance wouldn't cover his testosterone now that trump had won #his doctor was at her wit's end because she had been assured on three separate occasions that the authorization was all set #so since it was literally a dead day at work anyway i spent about half an hour playing phone tag with the insurance #trying to find out what their mcfucking issue was #only to eventually be told they wouldn't speak to a representative from the pharmacy about it and that the prescriber had to make the call #so i did let the prescriber know and found a goodrx coupon that made the price like $20 #patient was thrilled and very grateful for the effort #(this was like. the day before christmas and his last chance to get his medicine before he had to travel.)#pharmacist however immediately jumped my shit when i hung up for ''wasting time''#despite the fact that there was??? literally no other work to do???#we had three other techs on and i was keeping up with the data entry as things came in while i was on the phone.#tried to defuse the situation by apologizing but she was literally top-of-her-lungs screaming at me #in front of my coworkers and the like 2 customers nearby. so loud that one person could hear her clearly from the bathroom #had worked with this woman for 5+ years and she was the reason i went to this particular pharmacy in the first place #left and texted my boss what happened and told her that this gets fixed or i'm out. had a meeting with the store manager and everything #told them i would have a conversation with her to see if we could move past this. and she refused to speak to me #so i quit and my bestie quit in solidarity and we have been job hunting except that we both also got sick as FUCK the next day #like vomiting shaking massive headache unable to function sick #his fever was like 104.7 at one point? it was ungood #i'm finally about 85% better and back on the job hunt but like. yeah #thought i had something lined up that would free me from the shackles of customer service but unfortunately the guy changed his mind #and the one pharmacy interview i had they wanted to pay me $10/hr 💀 homie that's a $9/hr pay decrease #so yeah life is a prison etc etc BUT not having a full time job anymore DOES mean #that i have the time and energy to tungl again without all the chronic exhaustion #silver linings!!!

does anyone know a better way to try and reformat a research question for a survey because I am SUFFERING

#I already have a bunch of answers but this data isn't very helpful-#-and maybe I should not change the question so the data is at least consistent all around #i have multiple questions that are all poorly formatted and have not given me much useful data #but I don't know how I could possibly reformat them in a way that isn't a bu ch of open ended fill in the blank questions #my goal here is I'm trying to see like. Flanderization in fandom. Trying to see the canon vs fanon versions people have of characters #but not everyone might realize the version they consider canon IS fanon. So I can't ask it outright I have to fucking. like #idk trick them into telling me and then I can pop out and be like AHA YOU'RE WRONG #i m not sure the best way to go about this #the way I have it is like. I describe the character in 5-7 traits and ask people to pick 3 of them #and i also have an 'other' option if they want to elaborate #buuuuttttt #This question I feel like hasn't been super helpful #because again I can't just be like “do you think X character is just always lovey dovey 24/7 to character Y”#because again. That's too god damned obvious and people are gonna be like no! Even tho subconsciously they do think that #Also I don't think the traits I picked were very good either. It was just like. Too Broad #I'm planning on sending out my survey again and I wanted to see if I could fix some questions before I do so #there is just the issue of the data being inconsistent #I think I might just have to go in and change the character traits #that's I think the issue. But again I don't know how to ask what I want without being straight up like #��Do you think person Xs entire character revolves around character Y”#even tho the entire fandom acts like they do. testing fallout 4's next-gen update on console and it feeeels so weird!!! i'm used it being 30fps on console so now i have to get used to it being 60fps

looks like they've also changed the look of the loading screen + a new menu for installed creations?

should also say it runs really well so far, even without performance mode on you're getting solid 60fps (on series x anyway)

need to shell out for a new laptop before the end of the year - for a lot of reasons but mainly bc support ending for win8.1 makes fixing the current beast rather pointless :/ (and. admittedly. there is a lot to fix. she's old and she has suffered.)

but my current beastie is from the last gen of laptops with a disc drive and the thought of using an external/usb disc drive is enough to make me cry tears of blood

#really though it is time to upgrade #and i hate to say it because she /runs/ fine it's all hardware issues w parts that can absolutely be replaced #but if i can't use it to run the programs i need then shelling out the money for those parts would ultimately be a waste #but also the fact that this machine that runs fine is no longer worth fixing bc some google-based bullshit just won't support win8.1 anymor #is ALSO a fucking waste & a pile of planned obsolescence bullshit! and i hate it!#but uh. even though she runs fine and she totally does. she does need. uh.#new keyboard (only 1/3 of keys work; currently use usb keyboard)#new trackpad ribbon cable (trackpad does not currently work; using external usb mouse)#new power button and connecting ribbon cable (turning it on involves opening it up and causing an intentional short-circuit every time.)#(a problem largely solved by simply never turning her completely off- except she also needs)#a new battery (current battery does not charge at all; machine needs to be constantly plugged in or it shuts down immediately)#...ok i might be the 'this is fine' dog about this #but i am still upset! that i will no longer have a disc drive inside my damn laptop.#that's the disc drive's natural habitat; that's where it should be; it's weird and offputting to have it connected via usb!#ack. why do tech companies fuck everything up.#and that's without getting into the way new devices offer less harddrive space so people will use the fucking cloud or whatever???#yeah sorry no i'm not using your goddamn data mining corporate off-site storage i want to keep my shit on my own goddamn machine #go to actual hell if you're trying to sell me a pc with less than at least 500GB of storage i swear to fuck #...in essence you could say the whole process is leaving me rather grumpy

I love how I start playing DAO again for the first time in ages and immediately get hit with combat lag so bad that my spells don't land until after combat finishes. I have never had combat lag before. Are you sulking, DAO? Are you sulking because I stopped obsessing over Dragon Age to play a different fantasy RPG? I'm going back to BG3 if you don't sort your shit out, DAO.

#also if anyone has a solution to this i would like it #i've tried setting it to only use one processor and i've tried messing with the settings #which is what google told me to do and that didn't fix it #it's set up with laa #i've moved bg3 over to my data drive in case it's a memory issue but haven't run into combat since so i haven't been able to check yet #might repair the game files too #if neither of those sort it i really don't know what else i can do #might end up having to restart because i cannot play the whole game like this #it was fine up to ostagar idk what happened

i love making spreadsheets. the only problem with making spreadsheets is that i don't have enough things to turn into spreadsheets. the spreadsheet market is in shambles. but i can't just ask people if i'm allowed to make them spreadsheets, because if you go up to someone and go can i make you a spreadsheet they go literally why would you do that. but Sometimes you can social engineer your way into making a spreadsheet for someone and that's the most beautiful feeling in the world.

#one of my problems is that I will wholeheardedly feel as if a spread sheet would solves my other problems #unfortunately #I have little evidence to support this #I am however yet to properly examine the data by collating spreadsheet outcomes in a spreadsheet #this whole scenario of course raises the issue of too many spreadsheets #me: full of unorganized Thoughts that need Categories and Assosiations - a spreadsheet will fix me
