Horrific news of suicides from Parkland students (Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School).

17 dead in Florida. 17 futures wounded. What shocks me the most. Its that, I mean, no one is talking about LIKE they used to. Like, Hey, there is a hate-crazed gunman killing kids in a school of Parkland, Florida, cool! School Shootings are common in America. Please, stop this.

Florida Shooting
We aren't just protecting the right to protect ourselves we're protecting the right to kill. Murder is wrong regardless of anything.
How many people, how many children have to die before our lawmakers realize that the very guns soldiers use to protect the lives of our nation are being used to kill our nations children?

When I heard how many died in the Florida shooting I shut down, 17 lives were lost yesterday. 17 families are grieving, 17 children told their parents "Goodbye" for the last time. This is now America's deadliest school shooting, 17 dead, estimated 20 injured. The media portrays these mass murders as though the body count is a bar, it displays "12 dead, 24 injured" as though they are waiting for someone to say "Only 12? As if, I could kill 30."
This is a catastrophe in our day and age, this isn't 1999, this is 2018, nearly 19 years later, you would think we would be advanced, we wouldn't be in this predicament, and yet...The shooter pulled the fire alarm in order to get A) Easier shots and B) A higher body count. The internet has posted the idea of doing such a thing to get a more fatal shooting "If they were smart they'd pull the fire alarm so everyone is lined up."
We live in a day and age where everything we think is circulated if we make it known if you say "I HATE Becky from 5th period, Shes rude and is a terrible person, it 's a straight fact that Becky from 5th period will know that you hate her. Gun Control will not solve this issue, gun regulations, stricter gun license testing, mental health checks, and less media coverage will.

I know the shooting in Florida was a lil bit ago but I feel like I need to put forward my opinion. The parents of American and/or other nation kids should not have to pick up their phones to messages that either say “we’re very sorry to announce that your child has been senselessly murdered at the hand of an unstable school shooter”.
Or even worse, a message from their child themselves saying that “they may not make it out” and that “they love them dearly” followed by their last goodbye.
Wanna stop this shit from happening, voice your opinions as much as you can to get the message around so we can stop the former messages from needing to be sent to our loved ones vice verca. Instigate heavy gun laws, because yeah we may not be able to stop the use of guns...but we can definitely make the schools of America and hopefully in time the world, a safer place.

My thoughts on the most recent shooting...
I wasn't going to say anything about the shooting because I'm not always comfortable saying my thoughts on social media. However, I've realized that I need to voice my opinion, because it's a different one. I've seen an equal amount of both opinions over the past few days - guns or people? Do we need to get rid of the guns, or do we need to pay more attention to the people?
I've seen this debate tossed back and forth for so long with so many supporting points that, honestly, I don't know how to pick a side. I'm a strong advocate for mental health, and I do believe that childhood trauma and mental illness can affect a person's decisions. On the other hand, guns are frequently abused by all types of people, and I do think that they should be kept under a better lock and key.
So I guess what I'm saying is that I believe both sides to be true. A shooting happens because of a person, but it also happens because that person was able to get a gun so easily. People are arguing that there are other weapons that could be used if guns were to be restricted, but while it's true that someone could do a lot of damage with some kind of bladed weapon, guns are more impactful.
And while mental health does not excuse anyone's actions, it should be taken into account when these things happen. A shooter with mental illness should be treated for that illness as part of their incarceration. Kids in public schools should be evaluated on their mental health every so often, because they often wont speak up if they feel like there's something wrong. Teachers should be alert and aware of their students' behavior, and of the behavior of their fellow faculty.
I'm not choosing a side - blame guns or blame people - because both sides are to blame, and both issues need to be addressed and dealt with.
I'm tired of going to school every day with a little whisper of fear in the back of my mind that someone might pull out a gun. I fear for my friends still in high school, I fear for my family members who are in school. I'm sick of the constant fear, and it needs to end.
Prism, formerly Queers&Allies, at FLCC will be holding a letter-writing day sometime this semester, where students can send a letter to any active political figure about a current issue they feel strongly about. This will be the subject of my letter, and I hope I won't be the only one.
I would appreciate it if any comments posted on this are not written in anger. I don't want to start an argument. I'm just speaking my thoughts.
