Among all of those associated with the Akademiya, none are considered as calculatingly cold as the former Acting Grand Sage and his girlfriend. Students and Sages alike tend to tread warily around them both, lest they earn their sharp ire and harsh denouncements.

Of course, among those who consider them their friends, such worries are unreasonable (though not, admittedly, entirely unfounded). If a person is on the receiving end of their criticism, it is most certainly because it is deserved. Nor is the matter of how that criticism is taken either of their problems to deal with. After all, to both Alhaitham and his partner, brutal honesty is not "brutal" - it simply is.

Fun details:

The two of you definitely met because of an overlapping interest in a personal research topic. The fact that it continued to overlap again and again - well. Whether it was intentional or not, neither of you will admit to it one way or another, even under Cyno's line of questioning. (This is partly out of spite, but mostly just to see your friend group's frustration upon failing to get a straight answer out of you.)

Both of you are misunderstood by the majority of Sumeru. Alhaitham is perfectly fine with this. You tend to simply not notice. Whenever Kaveh or another friend brings it to your attention, you both logically remind them that the opinions of your friends matter more than those of complete strangers.

You and Alhaitham will be the death of Kaveh, by the way. There's a distinct lack of care for the fallout of your barbed words - those egos of yours, really! - that he tasks himself with trying to clean up for you afterwards. Maybe one day he'll learn to let it be - in the meantime, you and Alhaitham can amuse yourselves with the many shades of red his face turns.

You both HIGHLY value honesty. Admittedly, Alhaitham acknowledges that truth sometimes "means nothing at all" - but between the two of you, it is one of the greatest tenets of your relationship. It's what makes it truly work so well, your openness to feedback and complaints as they crop up.

Not to say that you don't have your differences. You indulge your friend's bad ideas often enough that Alhaitham is not unused to hearing about the consequences of your own actions, and being entirely unsympathetic to any resulting plight. Meanwhile, you think Alhaitham could stand to live a little more - there is only so much to be learned through words on a page, after all, much as you both enjoy reading. But you respect one another's choices.

You are both not the types to bring your baggage out to air in public. Or private, either, really. Whatever skeletons you each may have in your closets, neither of you will ever try to pry the other's open - that is to say, you'll let them come to you with those things if and when they're ready to share that burden.

Alhaitham can definitely keep pace with your racing mind, managing to follow your leaps of logic and thoughts without you having to explain them often. The two of you value sharing time with one another - most evenings are spent in one another's space, whether it's cuddling as you discuss your days and engage in lively debates or silently sitting on the couch, nudging each other with your feet as you read into the night. Learning for learning's sake is a shared love of yours.

Alhaitham is not the type to be overly physically affectionate, but he shows his feelings through actions and gifts. Dinner, brought home after a late work night; a new book over your shared interest topic, with a brief handwritten note slipped inside the front cover; a new piece of clothing to replace the one mucked up recently by a scuffle with some fungi, in the exact same shade and size as the old one - he gives you things he considers both valuable and practical. (Unfortunately, anything "aesthetic" he gets you will probably be... erm... eclectic. 50/50 whether it'll actually match YOUR aesthetics.)

He likewise values your thoughtful gifts to him. You'll find them proudly on display and scattered around the house, or carefully tucked along the bookshelves near the things he inherited from his grandmother. (The rest will fit in his pockets, somehow, or be incorporated into his daily routine.)

Maybe you're both a bit too harsh, in the eyes of some. Those opinions hold little stock in the grand scheme of things. Certainly, to your boyfriend, they have little meaning to them. [-> Another thing that he appreciates is your love language, he's mainly robotic with the only thing still really allowing him to 'feel' in a traditional sense is well, his head. Or lips, depends on the mood.

[-> Lyney is also similar to BootHill in the fact he encourages your little stunts and shenanigans but is also probably significantly more subtle about it and a little bit more concerned than BootHill is - that much is probably due to his siblings Lynette, Freminent and Father despite Father's claims of them being strong enough to fend for themselves he probably still worries greatly

[-> He's a magician so he's always trying to make up new tricks to impress the crowd and by extension impress you at every chance he gets so he figures, why not make it a competition, in these he's normally a lot more ridiculous and often throws out ideas that wouldn't be feasible just to hear your opinions and probably, if he thinks both him and Lynette could pull it off, would fully back your ideas - maybe he'll even make you a little special seat in one of his next perfomances

[-> After you two get together and he trusts you a decent amount I feel that he would let you know he was with the fatui, about father, and about what he and his siblings do - he doesn't expect you to get involved in what they do, frankly he doesn't /want/ you to get involved, but he feels like there shouldn't be secrets between the two of you after that long if being together and he doesn't want enough time to pass that's its be impossible to drop a bombshell like that and still stick together

Eventually, Lynette actually was the one who ended up promoting the two of you to meeting - having most likely done it through a magic trick that wasn't scripted into the show

✣ of everyone within genshin impact, I believe baizhu would be the one most suitable for you. Let me explain.

✣ from your traits, I can surmise that you are a prideful and competitive person when situations involve you, and it seems you take pride in properly safeguarding what you do not wish to be prided into. You want someone who is patient, honest, and understanding— but you also seem to want someone who can match your wit playfully, someone who is enigmatic and interesting to incur your time. Genshin Impact x Reader - Being an absolute Genius Invocation TCG nerd

Feat. Itto, Cyno (of course), and Kaeya because those are the ones I know who are into the game. Can be seen as mostly platonic but I added a bit of optional romance headcanons at the end for each character. Reader here is gender-neutral.

Ok so I’m getting some brain worms today in the form of the genius invocation tcg event like bruh

As someone who loves the card game and gets REALLY into it, can you imagine a reader agt the genshin cast while playing? Reader who’s such a dedicated player that they know the strats, the meta, and different deck playstyles. Reader who goes to the Cat’s Tail to hang out with fellow players and duels them on the daily enough that they have a reputation for being a pro.

It would be even more hilarious if they don’t exactly advertise this hobby (cough obsession) at all to anyone else outside the game, but the moment someone engages them in a duel or they go into places like the Cat’s Tail where many other players gather, or they attend any tcg related event? They go hardcore mode.

Itto sees you buying the latest tcg cards and he saunters up to you, bragging about how good he is at the game in an attempt to impress you lmao. Except you wipe his deck off the floor and Itto is. Flabbergasted while you try not to laugh too hard at his reaction. Like bruh even his gang spectating the duel had lost their hopes of their boss winning at all when they witness how outmatched Itto is against you the whole game. Itto’s character cards are all gone and yet only ONE of your character cards has taken some damage. That’s how skewed the matchup was.

Of course, as it is with Itto, expect him to challenge you again and again until he gets a win. In the meantime, you start coaching Itto about the game more, help to optimise his deck, and point out his mistakes and what he could have done better. Itto is an eager student and is in awe when you explain the strats and reasoning behind them. Itto isn’t exactly the brightest but damn even he can see that you know what the fuck you’re doing (if he’s crushing on you he’ll think that’s hot af. You’re so amazing?? And he gets to learn and spend time with you hehe totally not part of his master plan to get closer to you).

The moment Cyno notices you have a tcg deck, he’s going to immediately challenge you. Cyno goes all out and dramatic in calling out his challenge, as how it’s done in those card game medias. He absolutely HAS to battle any fellow tcg player since he’s that hardcore of a tcg nerd. The two of you will eventually engage in a duel (if you’re in a public place, expect to attract a LOT of attention because Cyno is too well known as the general mahamatra AND a proud tcg gamer). The man even narrates some of his actions while playing since he’s that much of a fucking dork. How adorable.

It’s a tense yet action-packed match. Cyno is a very good player, but evidently so are you. Spectators (if you guys are somewhere public) are starting to exchange bets on who would win. No one knows who’s going to come out on top because the two of you are so evenly matched that it could go either way. Cyno has that determined glint in his eyes as he figures out ways to beat you, yet somehow you anticipate his strategy and neutralise it, and vice versa.

Regardless of who wins though, it’s by a close margin. Cyno extends an invitation to play more matches with you whenever he’s free. How could he not when he just had the most thrilling duel of his life? You take up on his offer, since there are few players who can go toe-to-toe with you, and you can recognise that Cyno is a fellow tcg nerd like you. Boy, you two are going to get along so well. I can imagine both of you having conversations about the card metas and deckbuilding, which can sound like absolute nonsense to anyone who isn’t as hardcore abt the game. (And if Cyno has a crush on you, rip Tighnari because he has to witness the man blunders about in trying to earn your affections - keyword: TRY - and the fennec fox hybrid facepalms when Cyno keeps using tcg as a incredibly convenient excuse to hang out with you. For love of Lesser Lord Kusanali-)

Kaeya somehow picks up the fact that you’re into tcg (even if you don’t bring it up to him at all, he will know thanks to his ability to get others to share info with him, and some ppl might have mentioned you being an absolute BEAST at the game). So what does he do about it? Bring it up to you, of course, and ask if you wanna play a round or two.

Note that Kaeya isn’t a full-on hardcore nerd about the game. That’s not his thing. He doesn’t exactly know the ins and outs of the cards, but he has an incredibly strategic mindset that helps him beat most players. How else do you think he got to the final round in the tcg event competition? Still, Kaeya is absolutely intrigued when you match up against him, and said intrigue increases when you’re clearly winning. Seems like it’s true when he heard those rumors of you being an expert in tcg. He’s full on smirking when you beat him, and he claps slowly while congratulating you on your win and complimenting your skills (yet with the way he’s acting, it seems like he’s won somehow).

After that match, Kaeya will occasionally play a few rounds of tcg with you in his free time. I mean, he gets to sharpen his mind, hang out with you, gain information and be entertained. An all-round plus in his book. (And if somehow Kaeya has feelings that a biit more than platonic towards you, he’s going to use tcg as a way to get closer to you. Heck, he might even start paying closer attention to your tips and strategies to formulate a game plan. Be wary if he makes a bet with you through tcg, cus that means he’s got something planned. And if he happens to win the game and the bet? Well, hope you don’t mind doing a favor for him in the form of a kiss, maybe even a dinner date.

Even though you chose him I can see you and him being compatible! At first I think he would’ve been pretty chill with you, since you both are similar in a few ways, one of them being because you appear cold at first. You guys are always using sarcastic comments back and fourth at each other (playfully of course).

There may have been some misunderstandings since you both act the same way but later(soon) on it’ll get way better, he likes that you act flirty too you’ll see him acting wayyy more flirty with you later on in the relationship, I believe he has broken some hearts before so you guys can relate to that a lot. I can see that you guys always cope with each other, always talking about each other’s problems, I DEFINITELY believe he also isn’t a morning person either so you guys would stay in bed for a very long time until one of you has to get the other person up.

He is head over heels for your villainess style in clothing, he’s always there to compliment you whenever you dress in those clothes whenever, he’ll even buy you some accessories (or maybe steal…) for your outfits! I can see you guys playing video games, I think the games he would play are like action games and horror games, those are always fun to play with, you guys are always training together too whether it’s shooting or sparing you guys will always end up saying who’s better. At first I think you guys would be enemies to lovers, probably because of the way he acts as he looks down on anyone, but later on he’ll start to warm up too you and hopefully be less selfish…

I think you guys would kinda get along at first because really he does seem to be respectful at the very least, he’ll probably be the first to approach you but I’ll let you decide how that’ll go, I totally can think that he’ll be able to open up your feelings to him! After all he is a scientist of course you can trust him! (don’t. never trust him.) I can see you guys throwing flirty but sarcastic comments at each other every once a while, you were probably the first to put him in his place because he made you upset one time. But anyways, you’ll probably have to be the person where you’ll have to force him to go to bed because personally he’ll stay up all night working on inventions. He’ll probably use you for business because he sees how creative you are which nah or mag not be an issue but that’s completely up to you either way.

I think with his style and yours… you guys stand out a lot, and he likes your style! just he doesn’t really pay attention often, I think he would buy you pretty jewelry to wear! He thinks your very cute too, you guys get competitive with each other sometimes which someone will have to stop you two eventually. I personally think he likes true crime!
