............................................. I'm regretfully writing a fanfic.
It's not gonna be big, but dialogue has been running in my head 24/7 and if I don't write it down I'll explode. Writing is a fun break from drawing besides and I genuinely feel like slowly dissecting other characters is helping me revisit my original stories, and dissect my own characters and bring more continuity and subtlety into them.
#FUCK ALL OF YOU YOU ENABLED ME#i'm kidding i genuinely love you all#but GOD FUCKING DAMNIT#these two just have far too much fun dialogue and since i've been casually watching while i draw its given me more of a character basis to#work off of#and this is like junk food for my soul#the more I write garbage the better I get at writing my own stuff#but the fandom still scares the shit out of me#given I also have a younger brother its fun to examine their relationship and see some parrallels to my own experience#and how family differs from friendships in the dynamic#you get way more baggage from their shared experience growing up#and where they diverge from each other's mindset and approach and how its shaped from the difference in their Older sibling Younger sibling#experiences which is a critical component when they have fights#anyway Dean being the huge “I'M COOL FUCK THE SYSTEM I DO MY OWN THING” then immediately shifting to “yessir three bags full sir”#in 0.5 secconds never gets old#and Sam's perpetual frustration at this hypocrasy sends me#given Sam's entire existense is based around him genuinely wanting to do his own Thing VS Dean tricking himself into going down his own pat#but they both still have that childhood need to be fullfilled by their parents and IF THAT AINT RELATABLE#but they both tackle it so differently due to circumstance#anyway tldr: sibling dynamics fun as hell you go from seamlessly working with each other#to having a massive squabble so fast its very entertaining

Rouxls having to do certain shit in secret despite being the single most conspicuous creature to have ever gleaned the face of the planet is something I think about. A healthy amount
The amount of divided by zero energy in this man is unparalleled. He’s playing 3836-D Chess with himself and losing bc he cannot figure out he’s actually playing checkers
Caring is a performance until Lancer comes along and fucks it up so not caring is also a performance and he makes them fight for dominance on the regular

Hey asking again here, hope you don't mind.
You said that Wood Aki and Skull Aki divergent wildly from Canon and the other Akis. So what's their story and how does their guardian treat them ?
Okay, now this is where things get REALLY interesting, as given how the situations surrounding Wood Man and Skull Man are vastly different compared to those surrounding the other Robot Masters, I had to get pretty creative regarding how Aki came into their possession, starting by having things diverge during the Hard Age rather than during the theft of Daini.
(Just a heads up, these dabble in some pretty dark subject matter, so trigger warning for those who’d prefer not to read about those kinds of things. Plus they're pretty rambly, and I know some people aren't really into things like that, so heads up for that as well.)
In Wood Man’s Aki’s timeline, Aki gradually obtained sentience overtime on the battlefield rather than gaining it after his first memory wipe but decided to keep it a secret and kept acting like a mindless machine out of fear of what Light and Wily would do to him if they found out he deviated from his programming. However, due to essentially being a very young child mentally, he quickly became terrified by the brutal violence of the Hard Age, with the trauma ensuing from said brutal violence gradually building up and making it harder and harder for him to properly hide his sentience, eventually culminating in him accidentally ripping a soldier’s arm off after being caught off-guard and running away into the wilderness out of both guilt regarding the incident and fear of what would happen to him. He traveled deep into the woods nearby before eventually stumbling upon Wood Man, who immediately recognized him as a creation of Light and Wily’s and intended to kill him on sight, but when the young boy responded by cowering in fear rather than trying to fight back as usual, he realized that something was off and asked him what had happened to him. After explaining everything he had gone through, Aki begged for Wood Man to take his sentience away as while he feared death greatly, he didn’t want to spend the rest of his existence haunted by his memories of the war and all the suffering he had caused during it. Wood Man, taking pity on the boy, instead opted to attempt to remove his memories of the war by modifying his systems as a way to give him the chance to undergo a fresh start and show him all the good the world had to offer. It worked to an extent, but due to Wood Man not possessing the same advanced technology as Dr. Light, he unintentionally left his Aki with some “residue” in the form of bad dreams and deja vu.
Meanwhile, in Skull Man’s Aki’s timeline, Skull Man and his troops launched an invasion of Light and Wily’s base of operations whilst Light was in the middle of erasing her (remember when I said that Brooke wasn’t the only girl Alternate Aki?) memories of the Hard Age, forcing the two of them to take cover due to being caught off-guard and woefully unprepared. The robots absolutely ransacked the place before coming across the young girl still contained within the capsule, as Light didn’t have enough time to take her with them amidst all the chaos. Originally, the robots intended to destroy her and use her for scrap metal, but Skull Man, seeing potential in the girl and potentially being of use to him, instead opted to take her back to their base and take advantage of her memory loss by training her to be fiercely loyal to their cause, resulting in her eventually becoming their espionage specialist.
These timeline divergences result in them being the oldest Akis mentally (being more around high school age compared to the standard middle school age) and changing their reasons as to how they wound up in Silicon City: Wood Man’s Aki went to go investigate the state of the outside world after the two of them spent nearly two decades hiding out in the woods and fearful of the potential current state of humanity and robotkind, while Skull Man’s Aki being assigned a mission from Skull Man himself to gain the Lights’ trust to learn the location of the Mega Key and stop anyone who might aim to steal it before they get the chance to. I'm also debating on whether this means they have Dainis/Namagems of their own, or it's just them and in a unique turn of events, it's their own trauma/internal conflict that causes them to serve as their own Daini/Namagem a la Omori.
As for how their guardians treat them, I do eventually plan on making full-length text posts properly detailing each Aki’s relationship with their respective Robot Master, but for now I’ll say that Wood Man and Skull Man have the most professional relationships with their Akis due to their militaristic natures, with both pairs having a more mentor-student relationship than a parent-child one, though both Robot Masters still serve as their Aki’s caretaker and father figure. Wood Man is more open and gentle towards his Aki whilst Skull Man is more cold and strict towards his, but both of them care for their wards deeply in their own ways and do their best to ensure that they’re well taken care of and know how to properly protect themselves.

i have been in community with profoundly developmentally disabled peers and peers with brain damage my whole life, bc i had a childhood diagnosis. i have also been leftist my whole life; my mother was a marxist and raised me that way, and while their politics were absolute dogshit, they were lefty dogshit.
my entire life, i have seen leftist educators throw mentally disabled people away as "lost causes" because they couldn't engage with the material the way it was being presented. leftist outreach and education does, genuinely, have a massive lack of accessible material. to be blunt, people are not interested in retrofitting their leftist outreach to be accessible to people who learn best through episodes of sesame street.
as in, i have repeatedly faced outright laughter and cruelty over the idea that this could be a priority. or even something that we consider doing at all.
"people who are that mentally disabled don't need to know about these things," the kindest interpretation goes. ("people who are that mentally disabled don't interact with the world, anyway, they're all in institutions or monitored 24/7 by their parents," the uncharitable underlying assumptions go. "they wouldn't be a worker who needs a union. or a library attendee. or a member of the community garden. or a volunteer at the food bank. or or or")
the people i have seen this hurt the worst, over and over again, are profoundly mentally disabled people of color whose lack of access to accessible antiracist education is causing real danger in their lives. institutionalized disabled people of color who have learned racist ideology and behaviors from white authority, whether they were adopted by white families or incarcerated in care institutions run by white staff. who are treated lower than garbage by leftist educators, who view them as "lost causes," as unworthy of time and effort and attention, as deserving of their abuses because they... what... internalized the abuses that make up every aspect of their lives since birth?
i see people saying things in this conversation like "disability isn't an excuse for racism or transphobia or whatever, people have the obligation to improve themselves." oh, believe me, i have seen again and again how many privileged disabled people utilize their disabilities to punch down on others, try to escape accountability for their punching down by citing disability. but individual weaponization of identity is just that: weaponization of identity.
the power structures at play are what they are. it is a noble and admirable goal to want leftist outreach and education to be more accessible to all. if that is truly your goal, you must eventually reckon with the existence of people who do, actually, really need it presented in a picture book. or an episode of bluey. or a conversation where you only use examples of people they know in real life, using things that happened to them personally. the existence of people who cannot grasp forms of abstract reasoning, who need information presented as rules, or as guidelines, or as categories. the idea that yes, fully grown adults who need daniel tiger to explain racism to them are human beings who not only deserve access to that very thing, but who also deserve to be a part of leftist spaces and benefit from leftist organizing. are people for whom it might be INTEGRAL they get to be a part of leftism. are victims of racism themselves and suffering without access to antiracist spaces and community and support.
and you will need to reckon with the abject cruelty of your peers who laugh and mock the very idea of this. you need to reckon with the fact that a lot of people you respect, a lot of leftists doing genuinely good work, will respond to this by making fun of the people you're serving, even outright telling you their violent fantasies about these people. that is the experience of organizing in leftist spaces for profoundly disabled people. that is why so many of us burn out so fast. there IS a structural problem with mentally disabled people being seen as disposable and not a part of community. and it is EXTREMELY present in leftist organizing and outreach efforts.

Schadenfreude when I think about how my roommate is going to come to the realization of how much they've taken me from granted when they move out in a month and suddenly their apartment no longer cleans itself
That's if they have the self awareness to even recognize that stuff isn't clean though

curiosity kills the cat: one shot!
parings: Touya x reader
word count: 1.3k
notes: this was originally gonna be a part in a fanfic I was cooking but i genuinely could not figure out how to write childhood friends with Dabi’s crisped ass.
warnings: none!
summary: Touya always sees kissing in movies, all dramatic and lovey dovey, is it really his fault that he wants to try it on you? just to see how it feels of course!
“this movie fucking sucks.”
“language Touya.”
currently, you were at the treacherous Todoroki household.
Why? You may be asking.
Because you wanted to watch a movie, 27 dresses specifically.
Unfortunately for Touya Todoroki, he’s your only friend to watch the movie with.
now the two of you have been friends since pre-school, kids bullied you- Touya saved you.
you stuck around him after that, much to his dismay.
“Why would you make me watch this garbage.” Touya says harshly.
You huff loudly, “to see if your cold, dark heart had anything in it.”
Touya giggles at your little comment, you liked his laugh.
you wanted to watch this movie for a week, practically begged Touya on your knees for him to even watch it with you.
Touya doesn’t enjoy cheesy rom-coms.
He’s made that quite clear throughout this whole movie.
when the two main characters tried on the dresses he complained.
when they went to the bar together, he complained.
when the characters sang at the bar, he complained then too.
yet when they kissed, Touya didn’t even open his mouth.
“yuck- want me to skip?” You say for Touya’s sake.
He’s quiet for a moment before speaking, “nah, it’s just a kiss.”
“What- you’re suddenly cool with lovey dovey stuff now?” your face is set perplexed.
Touya shrugs, “I see it in TV all the time, why should I care?”
You hum softly, “adults kiss too much.”
Touya hums in agreement, his foot starting to steadily tap.
the movie continues, you catch Touya scoff at one of the movies jokes, he seems to be…actually interested.
but that damn tapping won’t stop.
Doesn’t his leg get tired when he does that?
Finally, at the end of the movie the two main lead get married, and the main actress has her 27 bridesmaids.
cute movie.
“Did you like it Touy?” you ask with excitement bubbling inside your chest.
He responds bluntly, “No- terrible movie.”
“Liar- that was the most I’ve ever seen you pay attention to something!” You point an accusing finger towards him.
Touya swatted your finger away, “I was waiting for the guy to murder the girl.”
“What?!” You retract your finger quickly.
Touya shakes his head as if it were obvious, “He had serial killer vibes..”
You sit there on the couch utterly silent from the words that just came out of Touya’s mouth.
His brows furrow slightly, “What?”
“Nothing, weirdo..”
Touya melts into the couch, picking up the remote and scrolling through the streaming apps choices.
“Any thing else you’d like to watch?”
“Being a gentleman I see?” You hum.
Touya chuckles softly, never responding.
The room is on a comfortable silence for the moment, aside from Touya tapping his foot against the glass table his feet are propped on.
Touya’s foot staggers, “Why do you think adults kiss?”
“Because they like it.” You answer quickly.
Touya shakes his head softly, “yeah but why, why do they like it?”
“Why would I know the answer to that.”
Touya glares at your for a moment, “oh please- your parents basically make out all the time when I’m over.”
“So that means I should know why they like it?” You pick at the fur blanket that was thrown over you prior to starting the movie.
Touya hums a small, “yep” before his foot starts to tap again.
“Didn’t think you were so affected by the kissing scene…” you say under your breath, Touya heard anyway.
“I-I wasn’t affected, I’m just curious on what’s so good about it.” He says quickly, the tapping increasing.
You seriously doubt Touya’s even looking at the tittles on the screen by how fast he’s tapping the remote button.
“Well I wouldn’t know…”
Touya stays quiet for a moment, thinking.
probably about something stupid.
“We could know.”
yep, something stupid.
“What you implying Touya?” You elbow his ribs, making him yelp.
“Ow- I’m saying that…nevermind.” Touya rubs his ribs softly, dropping the remote next to you.
“I mean…you’re just curious right?”
Touya looks up at you, the tapping gets faster.
“Yeah- Why…?”
You pick up the remote, looking it over to act like your doing anything else other that what your about to do.
“We could- do it..” you say quiet and soft.
Touya doesn’t respond, the tapping stopped at least.
suddenly, Touya grabs the remote from your hand- setting it aside.
“We could.”
Great, now you’re forced to look at your best friend.
“Yeah?” You say barely loud enough for Touya to pick up.
Touya nods, his foot starting to steadily tap again.
You cup Touya’s face with your hands- oh gosh are you really doing this?
Touya places his hands on your lap, truthfully he has no clue where to put them.
the taps get faster.
You and Touya look at each-other for a moment, just to make sure you don’t absolutely ruin your friendship.
More like a “you really wanna do this?” stare.
but hey, you were curious.
so was Touya.
1 + 1 = 2.
Two kissing more specifically.
“Jus’ do it already..” Touya says quietly, his face growing red.
You press your lips to Touya’s, it was..nice? soft? kinda gross.
Touya’s lips were quite soft actually, he’d wear chap stick like he’d wear clothes though- he hated dry lips.
Touya’s hand steadily went to your cheeks as well, only difference was his were a lot warmer.
At some point, Touya’s tapping stopped.
you a Touya didn’t though, it’s normal for friends to experience things together- how is a kiss any different?
Your cheeks felt so warm.
wait no- that’s Touya’s quirk.
You starting patting Touya’s thigh as a signal to chill out.
And he got the memo, only after a minute.
You and Touya were only slightly out of breath- you might have 1st degree burns on your cheeks though.
“M’sorry…?” Touya says with his dumb cracky voice.
“you burned my cheeks.” You say curtly.
Touya groans, “I didn’t know I activated my quirk!”
“I’m never kissing you again.” Your tone gets slightly aggressive.
Touy burned your precious face though- so he deserves it.
“I said I didn’t-“
A sudden laughter breaks through Touya’s speak, one that didn’t belong to him.
You whip your head to the door way only to see Touya’s siblings, Natsuo and Fuyumi.
Natsuo is holding onto his stomach, dying with laughter while Fuyumi looks mildly disappointed- more like embarrassed.
“Touya-nii…” Fuyumi says softly.
Touya’s face goes completely red, even reaching his ears.
“You didn’t see a thing.” Touya says sternly.
Natsuo laughs more as he grabs Fuyumi, “dude we saw everything!”
Fuyumi covers her face and Natsuo starts to re-create the scene.
“Oh-la-la! Y/N please kiss me I’m so desperate!” Natsuo says through his giggles.
You can see steam coming from Touya as he jumps over the couch to get to Natsuo.
Natsuo sees this and starts to book it.
So now you have a wild Touya and a trouble making Natsuo in the house.
Fuyumi looks at you, then runs to her room- poor girl doesn’t even wanna face you.
how are family dinners your invited to supposed to go now?
curiosity kills the cat you suppose.
and you are the cat in this situation.
EP:
“Mrs. Rei, this is absolutely delicious!” You say while crunching down on whatever Touya’s mother made for the night.
Touya hums in agreement, basically halfway through his second plate.
Natsuo chuckles before speaking, “maybe you should ask her for some cooking lessons Y/N- mom’s experienced.”
Rei smiles softly, “thank you, Natsuo.”
Natsuo immediately gains the most devious smile you’ve ever seen in your entire life.
“Maybe some kissing lessons as well, since you and Touya like that too.”
Immediately silence hits the table.
Touya immediately slams his blow onto the table.
Natsuo runs for his life down the hallway as Touya almost jumps over the table to catch him.
As soon as the boys leave the room your met with a stone faced Rei.
you clear your throat.
“Fuyumi can vouch for me, me and Touya would never do something so sinful!”
Rei chuckles softly, “Fuyumi told me when I came home…”
You whip your head to Fuyumi as she takes her leave, doesn’t wanna face your wrath.
you look towards rei again, sweating bullets as you hear Natsuo screaming bloody murder from two rooms over.
“w-we we’re just curious!”
AN: yall need smth after whatever the hell that episode was😭

Leona Kingscholar
A lion beastman who’s usually laying around somewhere in the forest or in his house, sleeping.
As it turns out he only really walks around town starting from 7PM up to ungodly hours (cue a lot of passing out right in front of him cuz you couldn’t find him right up to 2).
Plays rugby with Ruggie and Epel every sunny Sunday.
He was actually born into an affluent family as the second son. He’d spent his whole life training to take over the company despite everyone from his parents to the housekeepers looking down on him and constantly comparing him to his older brother.
In the end his brother took over the company and after his nephew, Cheka, was born he left the city and moved to the quiet town of Night Raven. (Well, it was quiet before all the crazy residents started moving in…)
Loved Gifts: Meat/Meat Dishes (Except Bug Meat), Universal Loves
“Heh, not bad Herbivore.”
Hated Gifts: All Vegetables, Universal Hates
“Oi, do I look like a garbage can?”
Ruggie Bucchi
A hyena beastman who grew up in the slums of the city with his grandma and the kids he took care of.
When they hadn’t moved yet Leona would often hire him to run the occasional errand but before he moved he asked him to follow him and be his full time attendant for a ludicrous salary.
Immediately accepted and regularly sends money back to his grandma.
He takes part time jobs at Sam’s General Store and the town saloon as well.
Sometimes steals random veggies from your garden, the scarecrows aren’t just for the crow.
Is often found in the forests foraging or tending to a little vegetable garden that only he eats the harvest from.
Doesn’t blink an eye if he sees you rummaging through the garbage. If anything, he joins you.
Loved Gifts: Dandelions, Donuts, Gold, All Foragables, Universal Loves
“Really?! Shishishi, well don’t mind if I do! Here, have this~”
Hated Gifts: Sap, Anything Rotten, Universal Hates
“...Do I look that desperate?”
Jack Howl
The local botanist! His shop is a greenhouse and he specialises in ornamental plants like cactus, succulents and flowers! Most of the flower seeds are sold from him as well as fertilisers and pots.
Genuinely loves his job but prefers being more physically active.
Goes on runs with Deuce every sunny Wednesday but runs at 6AM every other day.
A wolf beastman who lives with his parents and his two younger siblings.
Is often found tending to his shop or working out outside.
Loved Gifts: Cactus Fruit, Pear Compote, Universal Loves

One fact about each murder clown because I lobe them.
Green Murder Clown has plushies of all of their partners hidden in their dungeon of a bedroom. When they are mad at one of them, they will carry the plush around and talk to it instead of the clown in question. They have chewed eyes and limbs off these doll before. Each one is assigned a scent that brings Green comfort and reminds them of their lovers - Mime Reader's doll is licorice scented.
Orange works part time at a pizzeria in an upper scale section of the city. They eavesdrop on parents getting drunk at the bar for the next best locations for the crew to hit up if they're ever in need of cash. They hate every second of working there, but their boss lets them take home whatever food is made that wasn't purchased so they can't complain too much.
Purple is glued to an old lighter they own. Eats fuel like a motherfucker, but it's the most important thing to them besides the crew. It's the last thing they possess from their previous life. Sometimes they write all the sappy garbage they want to tell Mime and the rest of the crew down only to burn them once they've finished. It's easier than saying "I love you." for them. Being insatiably horny for their partners is the closest they can get to being romantic most days. Let me hit it raw = "I love you and want to be with you for the rest of my days"
Pink is extremely protective of their hair. They wear extravagant wigs because they are pretty and because they are what Pink cannot obtain easily. Pink has short, damaged hair as a result of chemicals put in their hair over the years to make the perfect by those around them. They have too much trauma from this time to see a stylist for help, but they tend to it on their own and feels at peace when their lovers comb or brush it for them.
Red has Cataplexy - triggered mainly by laughter. It is incredibly hard to make them laugh as is and episodes can be far in between, but when they do occur Red may be unable to move or talk. Bouts of silence they have during times the gang are all relaxing together have sometimes been due to this. By now, the remaining clowns can detect when these spells happen and are quick to step in. This is also why they do not drink alcohol.
Blue has back/neck problems from slouching their whole life. They've always been the tallest person in a room and hates stigmas that come with their height. One source for their endless tears is the aches they feel when they stand up straight for too long. Massages or someone sitting on their back relieves some of the pain. They offer to carry Mime often because they love the Mime and they act as a back brace for them.
💛(yellow) is the only murder clown to have work professionally as a clown in the past. It is why they struggle with being around everyone else for long periods of time. It's hard to face genuine, loving smiles when all they've known were fakes. They also feel they do not deserve love despite everyone in the gang having blood on their hands as well. They sleep in vents or under the others' bed because all they ever had to sleep in was an old sleeping bag and as they grew up, it shrank, but the tightness brought them peace. Some days when they're in a manic state, the only thing that can keep them going is being buried beneath the bodies of their lovers in a cuddle pile.
They bail as soon as they're feeling better because touchy is icky unless they say it isn't.

My drawing skills suck are very unpracticed but I have a mighty need to create fanart of the garbage tarot. I don't even know anything about the source material but I am in love with these idiots.
Actually... I do a lot more mixed-media than I do drawing........... Hmm...
As a Completely Unrelated Thought, what do you think Zaraki's handwriting would look like?
I'm glad you asked because there's na specific answer for AEIWAM fic! Zaraki!
(Note: in AEIWAM, Kakiyo was Tousen's adopted sister, not an unrequited crush, and she raised money to go to the academy by working as a travelling schoolteacher for a while)
---
The first time Yamamoto gets a report from Zaraki, it genuinely throws him for a loop. Its a thorough if somewhat gruesome report about the 11th dealing with a pack of hollows that had been attacking isolated villages. Nothing Yamamoto was not already used to, but reading descriptions of mutilated villagers is somehow more unsettling when the descriptions look like this:
Tumblr media
(a stylistic example)
Yamamoto takes him to task next meeting.
(continued under the cut)
"I know you're still learning the job Zaraki, but you can't foist your paperwork off on Miss Kusajishi." Yamamoto growls.
"I... Didn't? What?" Zaraki looks extremely confused, but the Captain-General is not fooled.
"You mean to tell me THIS is your handwriting?" Yamamoto snaps, throwing the report on the table, sheets spilling out as it slid down the length of it, so everyone could see the bizarre cutesy hand it was written in.
Zaraki's face darkened, jaw clenched. "Yeah. What about it? You goin' blind as well as senile?" He growled.
"THIS IS THE HANDWRITING OF A LITTLE GIRL, ZARAKI, DO YOU HAVE THE SAME HANDWRITING AS YOUR DAUGHTER?" Yamamoto slammed his hand on the table, temperature sharply increasing around him.
Zaraki began to arch his back and crackle with Reiatsu as well, but was stopped by loud ringing chime and a hand on his arm.
Yamamoto blinked in surprise to see Tousen, of all people , holding the giant back. There was a click as Tousen fully re-sheathed his sword. Suzumushi's chime wouldn't effect either of them, but it redirected their attention very effectively.
"My apologies, Yamamoto-sama." He bowed his head before turning his ear up at Zaraki. "Kakiyo wrote about this to me. You could only afford for one of you to receive schooling, right?"
Zaraki huffed and shook himself before answering. "Yeah, I was a broke-ass bastard before this." He grumbled, scratching his neck in a de-escalation feature. "Yer sister was a fuckin' saint and a genius. Neither of you have any business tellin' the whole world though."
"I think it was an exceptionally brave and difficult thing you did." Tousen shrugged. "Even when she used that method, less than one in a hundred parents actually stuck to it, much less achieved what you have."
Zaraki started looking everywhere but at Tousen, thinking. "... wouldn't call it brave, it was just makin' sure she was doin' good in school." He muttered.
Tousen kept listening intently at Zaraki. May I tell Yamamoto-sama so he doesn't cause another scene?"
"You're going to tell me what you're muttering about whether you like it or not." Yamamoto menaced.
"My sister taught Zaraki-taicho and Miss Kusajishi how to read and write." Kaname sighed and took off his goggles to rub the bridge of his nose. "It's extremely common in the Rukongai to have to teach children whose parents have never had any kind of schooling. Many of the parents would like to go to school too, but can only afford to send their children- actually , usually only one child. It's not usually an issue of money, but time- the parents can't afford to miss fishing season, or spare any siblings because they're needed on the farm. But, when you have a parent who is as attentive and caring as Zaraki-"
"Tttch!" Zaraki huffed at Kaname, who pointedly ignored him.
"-You can get around the schooling fees and scheduling problems by telling the student that their homework is to teach their parents what they learned in school that day. The homework you give the students is for their parents to do after they pass the lesson on and grade them on how well they taught their family." Kaname explained, putting his goggles back on. "Kakiyo was in awe of Miss Kusajishi's dedication to teaching you, and immensely proud of your efforts."
Zaraki still refused to look at Tousen, but his ears were bright red.
"...ohhh." Ukitake realized. "Wow, that's... I thought it was impossible to learn how after a certain age, that's - well, I don't think it's something I could have done!"
"What?" Glared Yamamoto.
"Zaraki-taicho and Miss Kusajishi have the same handwriting because he learned how to read and write by learning her school lessons from her." Unohana translated. "-An exceptionally difficult way to learn, and commendable for even trying." She continued, arching an eyebrow at him as a warning.
"Yeah and with all due respect Yama-ji? You're not exactly in a position to be complaining about anyone else's handwriting-" added Shunsui. "Zaraki's handwriting is odd, but it's perfectly legible. Nanao-chan framed your last memo because she thought it was an abstract painting."
Yamamoto turned to Shunsui with an aggravated glare.
"I'm afraid I have to second Kyoraku-taicho." Tousen said, without an ounce of chagrin in his voice. "The kido spell on my glasses can translate nearly everyone's hand, but the only person in the ninth who can read your memos to me is third-seat Maegawa, and mostly because she's had several centuries practice."
"Wait, we were supposed to be getting memos?" Mayuri squawked. "Dammit! I thought that squiggly garbage was the fax machine breaking every other week! I disassembled that thing three times trying to fix it!"
"You can all shut up now." Yamamoto snarled, and everyone did, but there were still a lot of pointed looks around the table, and Unohana's eyebrow had not resumed it's usual curvature yet. "Please consider my complaint withdrawn."
Unohana's eyebrow arched further and she cracked her eye open to reveal a coal-black iris, going from Warning to Threat.
"...My apologies, Zaraki-taicho. That was. Inconsiderate of me." Yamamoto muttered.
"Ya gonna shut up about it now?" Zaraki asked, not quite facing Yamamoto, but back still arched.
"I will hold my judgment in check in the future." Yamamoto acquiesced, watching him.
"Sure." Zaraki grunted, shaking his shoulders to drop the subject. "Right, what the fuck were we doing?" He asked, returning to the agenda.
---
After the meeting, Tousen took a minute to stand in the late afternoon sun, exhaling and releasing the tension of the day, when someone grabbed one shoulder and plopped something heavy on the other.
"Yeh didn't have to do that." Zaraki grunted just behind Tousen's ear, his forehead resting on the small man's shoulder, half gratitude, half grumble.
"One of the responsibilities of a captain is to keep the general in check, and I had a particularly good opening to stop that nonsense for good." Kaname hummed, hand reflexively coming up to touch the giant's head on his shoulder, fingertips tracing over the scarred visage and peculiar hairstyle.
"Didn't read that in the employee handbook." Zaraki grunted, grin in his voice.
"Yamamoto wrote those handbooks, and he'd rather we let him do as he pleases. You have to learn how to read between the lines, Zaraki." Kaname teased.
Zaraki gave his strange, low clicking chuckle of amusement and affectionately mock-bit Kaname's ear before standing up, still holding his other shoulder.
"...Thanks. " he muttered, giving his arm a squeeze and stepping away. "Gotta go pick up Sensei, you talk to her if you think I need more tutoring!" Zaraki waved, striding off to collect Yachiru in completely the opposite direction from her school.
"ITS THE OTHER- oh, he'll figure it out." Kaname sighed.
The sun was low in the sky, but it was still warm, and the first Cricket of summer started chirping, startling him. Suzumushi chirped with it, singing her mournful loss of her original wielder, but not so despairing this time.
"Kaname?" Sajin asked, heard before he was felt as usual. The lieutenant's meeting must have wrapped up late.
Kaname smiled and put a finger up, indicating he should listen. Sajin did, helmet tipping slightly to hear.
"Crickets!" Sajin realized, and offered Kaname his gauntlets hand to lead him home. "...I miss Kakiyo too." He sighed.
"You're not really gone if some part of you lives on in someone else." Kaname hummed. "I realized she is not so far gone today."
"Oh?" Sajin asked. "Where does she live on?"
"Have you read any of Zaraki-taocho's reports yet?" Kaname grinned. "His hand is not his hand alone."

Okay, let's talk about Ming, and how some people are talking about him like he's an irredeemable monster. (It's okay that you don't know anyone who was emotionally neglected and you have a decent relationship with your parents, but it's not okay to pretend your experience is universal and everyone else is garbage)
I know some of you remember my loud defense of Ray from Only Friends, and here I am again, to fight for the loveability of the character who doesn't know what to do with all their big feelings.
Ming's family, from what we see, is not a warm, loving place for him to learn emotional intelligence.
May is pretty great, but there is only so much an older sibling can do when your parents are physically or emotionally unavailable.
Ming's mom had only been seen trying to control Ming's life, marry him off to a woman, and insisting he is incapable of being on his own. Not exactly mom of the year.
Ming is clearly incredibly lonely, and so, so sad.
He likes Tong, but mostly after his sister and Tong are already involved -- because it's safe to transfer feelings you don't understand to someone that those feelings cannot go anywhere with. When he starts to feel too much for Tong, he leaves the country, because he can't process those feelings, and he doesn't want to hurt his sister with his crush on her boyfriend.
He comes home, and he sees Joe first. His likeness to Tong is obviously what pulls Ming in, but it is very quickly apparent that Ming is genuinely interested in Joe, but he has no fucking Idea what to do with that interest.
And when Joe clearly likes him back? It gets worse. He lashes out and then feels bad, but mostly doesn't apologize, he just moves on, because apologies require reflection on what you've done wrong, and Ming doesn't know how to do that! We see him struggle with it multiple times!
He does not know how to deal with being wanted. With the expectation of care that comes with that. Because, ironically, Tong and May are the best example of a relationship he has to look at, and he had to tell Tong to go take care of May when she was sick.
His crush on Tong remains so deeply a part of his identity, even as it obviously fades, and it clouds everything because Tong uses Ming's affection for him against him! And Ming doesn't see that! He doesn't see Tong's flaws until after Joe's accident, and even then, I don't know that he acknowledges Tong's actions as cruelty and manipulation, or if he ignores that all under his own guilt and grief over losing Joe.
And this brings us back to Ming and Joe.
Ming didn't have a crush on Joe. He sort of accidentally fell into a situationship, but then became intensely possessive and obsessed with Joe. We see him be so unbelievably soft with Joe, in moments where he's allowing himself to be, to stumble through having feelings and carrying for other people. But there is so much holding on tight that Ming can't seem to turn off.
He holds on to Joe --both of them!-- so tightly. He sees threats to his claim on Joe everywhere, and he can't confront that idea, so he doubles down on being possessive, and he looks cuckoo-bananas.
But it really just reads to me like he doesn't know what to do with feelings! I know people --especially ND people, who needed a little extra help to learn how to person -- who had emotionally neglectful parents and didn't understand healthy attachment until years of therapy and some determined friends got involved.
I don't have the greatest track record for "healthy attachment", and lean towards codependent in a lot of my relationships.
Some of the people I love the most are "hold on tight even when it's not good, because if I let go you'll leave" people.
They are absolutely deserving of someone who loves them. They deserve a happy ending and middle, too. They deserve the chance to learn and grow and become better versions of themselves.
(and they deserve people to love and cheer for them even when they're being assholes and throwing tantrums and hurting people because they are still learning how not to do that)
AND THIS DOESN'T EVEN TOUCH ON HOW JOE ALSO MISSED A LOT OF EMOTIONAL LESSONS, BUT IT MADE HIM UNHINGED IN A TOTALLY DIFFERENT WAY THAN MING!
Idek if this is coherent, or everything that I wanted to say, but here it is, my treatise on why Ming is my baby, actually, and why I will defend him until he is either better or actively worse.
ETA: what Ming has done is obviously not okay, reasons are not excuses, but I do think he deserves a chance to learn. and to tell Joe he loves him.

Why are the qsmp family allegations on twt such a bad thing? /genq I'm genuinely curious, I'm not a fan of people found family claiming everything these days, but I was wondering about your reasons for this specifically! Feel free to ignore this ask if you want o/ cheers!
i think there's a few big issues i and many other people have with this:
usually it's based on nothing, or on nonsense jokes. like cellbit clearly jokingly calling phil dad. that's not basis for anything. putting that dynamic on the wiki after one joke is fucking insane, and i think the fandom wiki editors are actually nuts for that and all the other stupid shit they pull like this.
it's used to avoid shipping people pretty often, which frankly is ridiculous in the first place and is also often an issue of dumbass misogyny/cooties bullshit. you can maintain a creator's shipping boundaries (if they even have them, which, sometimes they don't even!) without having to family code them with every other character. phil does not need to be techno's dad for you to not ship them. and on the cooties/misogyny angle, it's used CONSTANTLY to avoid shipping women with men. like, firstly, people's insistence against shipping female characters with men serves to continuously sideline them in fan content. 90% of the time the most popular ships are m/m and women in canonical relationships with popular male characters get treated like garbage for "being in the way." secondly, it's cooties shit, like i said. women and men can be friends and don't have to be related for you not to ship them. just don't ship them if you don't want to. this goes for any set of characters. if you don't want to ship phil and cellbit, just don't do it. and don't get pissy with other people when they do want to do that.
for phil in particular: it serves to infantilize characters who are grown adults and pushes phil into a constant parental position with people. like, phil is very dad, he's just like that, he's very responsible and good with people, but he's not EVERYONE ON THE PLANET'S DAD and acting like it's his responsibility to care for everyone he interacts with sucks. case in point, the way people treated him during dsmp when fans would not let go of family sbi dynamics, even when he said that tommy wasn't his kid and was not his responsibility. phil does not owe any other character anything, and that expectation is a sore spot for many people, especially phil mains. and the agency it takes away from the characters that people child-code is annoying and shitty.
people make it super nuclear and weird when that's almost directly opposed to the notion of chosen family in real life
basically i think it's a really weird practice that people have fallen into that often feels regressive and annoying and removes character agency and independence. like, i enjoy family dynamics when they're actually relevant and when they don't ruin character's individual personalities, but the automatic reaching for that when it's not true and the insistence that family dynamics are somehow morally better than shipping is obviously very stupid and very much fandom purity culture.

With the return of Misaki and the uncertainty over Miri’s custody, I think it’s time to talk about the cat.
Because the cat is a direct parallel, and the reason why I believe things will go differently this time around, since they’ve both grown a lot over the last year.
The argument over the cat perfectly illustrates the crux of Rei & Kazuki’s issues at the start of the series.
Tumblr media
Kazuki tells Rei that buying food for the cat isn't enough, you have to be willing to put in the work — and, given that he was gone for one night and comes home to an apartment filled with smoke, along with a pile of take-out and garbage, he was 100% justified in refusing the stray. Genuinely I don’t get why Kazuki taking this stance got the hate it did, any responsible pet owner would look at the Rei of Ep 1 and agree he was not ready for a cat.
However, this is something that Rei grows to understand when he’s left to care for Miri on his own in Ep 7 and Kazuki isn’t around to shoulder that responsibility. Rei realizes that his actions, or inaction, can negatively affect the people in his care, and it gives him a reason to change. I think it also gives him a new appreciation for everything Kazuki does, hence his attempt at French toast.
But I feel we don't discuss Kazuki's reason for giving up the cat enough, because they’re two sides of the same coin.
Tumblr media
What he’s saying is objectively true and you can tell he’s speaking from a place of experience with what happened to Yuzuko. However, he is only focused on how what they do can affect the other people in their lives. No mention of how it would feel to lose someone or any lingering on how lonely this life is.
It’s a contrast to Rei, who brings home the stray without a second thought, simply because he wants to, not considering the impact it would have on the cat. Kazuki takes this to the opposite extreme, only considering what’s best for the cat and completely ignoring his own wants and feelings.
So, as we know, the cat is left where Rei found it. Not an ideal situation, no — much like leaving Miri with her mother would be, considering she did abandon her before — but it is the safer option in both cases.
Tumblr media
Watch these scenes and tell me he isn’t fond of the cat. And when he realizes it’s cold and comes back with food for the little guy? Yeah, don’t tell me he wasn’t already attached.
Tumblr media
But he comes back to an empty box. Implying to Kazuki, and to us the audience, that the cat was taken in by someone who could give it the normal, loving life that it deserves, which is why Kazuki leaves with a smile.
It is interesting to note that despite his disagreement, Rei went along with Kazuki’s decision over the cat, just as he went along with Kazuki’s decisions regarding Miri, whether that meant taking her back to her mom or committing to being her parents.
Tumblr media
I always read this scene as Rei seeing how happy Kazuki is having Miri around. And thus he questions if this is really what Kazuki wants to do, resulting in that startled expression on Kazuki’s face. Like he hadn’t even considered that possibility.
Rei is perceptive, recognizing that Kazuki will be sad to see her go, yet he doesn’t argue when Kazuki firmly negates this as an option while looking upset again.
Tumblr media
Kazuki has made strides in moving on from his wife’s death, but the idea that it’s okay to move on doesn’t erase the insecurities and tendency toward self-loathing he’s displayed, which were probably there long before he met Yuzuko. Even when he reconciles with Karin, her words of encouragement are, “I bet you can make her [Miri] happy!”
So if he truly believes that Miri will be happier or safer with her mother, Kazuki will absolutely choose to let her go.
And it will be up to Rei to go against his decision for once, because he knows that remaining a family is what they both want.
Tumblr media
Here, Kazuki looks sad and resigned. I was always sort of disappointed we didn’t get a scene of Rei & Kazuki during Ep 7 when he was at his lowest and most self-deprecating. Now, though, I wonder if they were saving such a confrontation for this moment right here. Where Rei will have to convince him that his own happiness is a priority, too, and that their family is worth fighting for.
Now, uh. I do think that Rei’s decision that they stay together as a family will result in tragedy — there is too much foreshadowing to pretend otherwise — and that maybe Miri will have to stay with her mother for a bit out of necessity. But the point of this episode I think will be to highlight how much these two have grown because they wanted to be better for Miri and that it isn’t selfish to want to pursue that happiness for their own sakes, too.
