as I said, act two left me with genuinely mixed opinions. that said, I slept on it and I think I'm able to verbalize it a little bit.

let's start with what I think went right in this act. first of all, obviously, the animation and art. if possible, they're outdoing themselves. I love the experimentation, I absolutely adored the pastel tones they used for vi and jinx's childhood memories, the way isha's point of view sequence feels like it's straight out of a ghibli movie, I loved the distortion effects used on jayce and every single visual effect they used for viktor to convey this sense of absolute inhumanity, the entire messianic visuals were insane, warwick was gorgeous especially during sequences where we didn't get to see him but rather we got to see the camera following his massacre. gorgeous. no notes.

episode four, in my opinion, was near perfect plot-wise too. seeing the new state of the military situation in zaun, getting to see sevika as the rallier of the revolution, isha's drive to be a fighter for zaun leading her to impersonate jinx when needed, the whole mission to enter stillwater - I genuinely think it was incredible. most of all, it was probably my favourite jinx episode to date. and that's saying a lot. this is a character I've resonated with and held very very close to my heart for three years now. seeing her gain not only a younger sister through whom there could be a process of reclaiming her own past, but also very importantly seeing her gain new objectives and seeing her gain community, was deeply healing and heartwarming to me. that one scene where her followers touch her, not only as an idol but as an equal, is so so moving and good. isha was the kickstarter to jinx's reclaiming of powder and a sense of stability, sure, but living in a fantasy with isha alone could have very easily led her to the same old mechanism of co-dependency - thus never breaking the cycle that silco himself perpetrated onto her. but no, they made her respected. they made her see a nation of people who saw something in her. they gave her goals, even if she reasonably only started giving a fuck about said goals when her sister/child went missing. it was everything I never thought could happen to her. it was healing.

episode five is where the issues start, I think. first of all, there's been way way way too much space dedicated to the black rose. much as I love mel, much as I find her truly intriguing, her plotline is so severely disconnected from everything else and it feels un-cohesive. before s2 started, one of my main fears was that they would give noxus an excessive screentime in order to prepare the viewers for a future noxus project and I hate to see that I was right. this leads to the second issue, which is pacing. and specifically, vi. vi stans, how are you doing? because to be fair, the show kind of fucked you over and there's no sugar-coating it. the fact that vi's fighting pit era lasted three minutes was genuinely ridiculous. the entire plotline involving her, jinx and warwick in episode five was way, way too rushed in order to make space for black rose content - and again, I love mel, I love ambessa. but there's no doubt something was off here in terms of pacing and screentime. now, I don't think the episode was bad. I loved the dynamic between jinx and vi. with jinx having gained some sort of a stability (at least, for her standards) and vi having nothing else to lose, the fact that their conflict turned into a half unwilling cooperation felt very real and believable to me and I loved their interactions, especially in the micro expressions; it all screamed family bond where something went awfully wrong but here we fucking are and the love is still there at the roots. I just, you know, would have liked to see more of it. the final hug with warwick felt, to me, less earned than it could have been if we just had a little more time with these characters in this arc. was it emotional? sure, but could it have hit harder if the episode was just structured a little bit differently, a little more cohesively, especially regarding vi? yeah. and another question: would the zaunite revolution arc have needed more than just one episode before being pushed aside and sort of forgotten? probably, yeah, even though there's no comparison with how vi's arc was reduced to three mins. so again, pacing issue. still, I had no particular issues with the plot and the contents of the story itself. I would say episode five was rushed, crammed and structurally weak, but the story still hit me in all the right ways when it needed to. vi and jinx's reluctant steps to some sort of understanding hit me hard, in spite of any structural weakness.

episode six... well. episode six leaves me so conflicted. 'cause the thing is, it's dope. I think it's a fucking bomb. they managed to fit nearly (nearly - mel being, again, dissociated from the main storyline and in this case, absent) every character's plotline into a cohesive arc. it kept me on the edge of my seat near the whole time. there were so, so many things I absolutely adored - the imminent attack on the commune from ambessa, the way they managed to make warwick a center plot point and use that plot point to show us both the benefits and the limitations of viktor's hexcore messianic utopia cult, everything regarding jayce's return (whom is getting so much hate, but come on, it's clear the man has seen Some Things), the way the episode starts off with a plan but not necessarily a sense of deep urgency and then the urgency slowly creeps in and it explodes into a fucking battlefield. again, warwick. vi and jinx's slow re-building of some trust, slow reclaiming of family love. viktor. man, I adored their work on viktor. I just found it dope. the thing is, episode six has two major, major issues that I just can't seem to get past and this time it's plot issues, which makes it worse than 2.05 for me.

the first one, caitlyn. sure, I get that caitlyn wasn't fully onto ambessa's methods. but there's a very huge leap from 'I distrust this person and I question her methods' to 'my ex told me that this savage monster that just brutally mauled our men is her father so I'm just gonna help her save him'. like jesus, come on. caitlyn deserved better than this. (again, shoutout to vi stans, cait stans and caitvi stans, they did you dirty.) especially when I think they did such a good job on her descent in act one. the second one, isha. look, I'm gutted if she's dead. like fucking gutted, mourning, red-wedding level in shock, like, can't even think about it without wanting to cry. but this is not just an emotional thing. in fact, I love some good angst. no, this is a narrative issue. they spent the entire act - the entire season - building up jinx's healing and to take it all away like this, to bring her back to step one, just feels like fucking trauma porn for the sake of it. it feels unnecessary and cheap, and cheapness is the one thing I can't forgive arcane. like, what was the point? why not have her spiral from 2.01 if this was the direction? it's beyond me and it makes me feel so bitter, so sick, that at times it's hard for me to remember that there were so, so many things I adored in these three episodes. again, 2.04 is up there as my favourite jinx episode to date. 2.05 gave me some of my favourite siblings moment in the entire show. 2.06's work on viktor and hexcore and magic is otherwordly. I'm so glad I got these episodes, genuinely. and yet.

'cause the thing is, - not considering the isha thing for a minute - aside from my critique regarding caitlyn, and aside from having to make peace with how rushed/crammed the pacing is, this show is still absolutely gorgeous to me. it's still gorgeous art to me. sure, s2 has its very real issues. and for sure, it's absolutely reasonable to recognize them, critique them, and still find it an incredible story. but this. fuck, this could change everything to me. if isha's truly dead, then it means they wasted six episodes on what could have been one of the best, most genuine, most earned stories of unexpected healing I'd ever seen on my screen just to throw it away and I'm not sure how to forgive them for that. episode six itself was dope. episode six isn't really where my gut-deep fear and bitterness comes from. it's where it could lead from now on. I'm so holding out hope on ekko saving the day, even if it's a deus ex machina. it's a deus ex machina I'd accept if it means not throwing away jinx's entire road to recovering. but I don't know, guys. I don't know. making her spiral as a general s2 choice would have been one thing, and I would have been on board, but this is something else entirely. this is cheap betrayal and if true, if confirmed, if real, it's a sour taste.

I was thinking about what each losers' 4 favourite movies on letterboxed would be and then I proceeded to wrote my thoughts about their general taste in movies, enjoy.

Bill is a "horror fan" and by that I mean he has only watched the most digestible and acclaimed horror movies. He actually kinda likes shitty 90s slashers but thinks it will make him look like he has bad taste so he says he prefers the recent elevated horror stuff despite not liking or understanding them. Bill is also an MCU fan (or maybe was before phase 4). He goes to see every blockbuster no matter the quality. He also watches all of his wife's movies, of course, and only sometimes lies about he liking them (Even when Audra is saying that she fucking hated them). Bill says his favourite director is Nolan despite not really understanding half of his movies. Bill is an 'Avatar' (the movie) fan... what I'm getting at is that Bill is the one with the basic bitch taste (who doesn't even dabble in the one unique thing they like with the fear of having bad taste), sorry bill.

Richie has watched a lot of movies from every genre and has actual good taste. When asked about his favourite movies however he would only list shitty b movies (he has a Neil Breen movie in his top4) or popular horrible/funny bad movies (think cats, suicide squad, madame web, a minecraft movie etc). He watched all the Dreamworks movies, depending on the day his favourite is either 'Shark Tale' or 'The Bee Movie' (His actual fave is Shrek 2). His favourite horror movies are the Evil Dead movies. His fav director is Tarantino, watched all of his movies countless times, says his fav is Shyamalan instead. Says his fav recent movie is 'Old, the movie with the beach that makes you old' (never watched it his actual recent fave is Challengers) .

Eddie used to be the kind of guy who watched like 5 movies a year and said that his favourite movie was 'The Godfather' despite never seeing it. After Derry 2.0 is when he starts to actually watch movies. Eddie complains through most movies about 'logistics' and stuff and thinks he might just not like movies, but every once in a while he will find a movie like 'The Holdovers', get so engrossed in it he will watch another 100 movies trying to find one with similar 'movie magic' where he's loving the movie too much to complain about anything.

Richie loves his complaining though so he makes Eddie watch bad b-movies with him and watches Eddie complain more than the movie itself (Richie loves his husband). Eddie will say that "He doesn't want to watch another shitty movie again" as he sits down on the couch  because he does enjoy complaining about movies that are made to be complained about (Eddie also loves his husband).

When asked his fav director he says it's Spielberg, he has only seen 'Jurassic Park' but he did like it. He finally watches the godfather, it's okay. He likes the 2nd one better.

Stan is a documentary guy, he has also watched so many of them that he started to be very pretentious critical about their quality. He is also someone who from like 15 years of age said that he only likes movies when they are "realistic". (He does have a couple of guilty favourites that are not "realistic". Nobody but Patty knows, even then everybody accuses him of this which he denies) Aside from documentaries, he mostly like biopics (if they are good) some dramas (if they are good) and 3 hour epics (if they are good). His fav director is probably Scorsese. Patty says Stan's fav movie is 'Goncharov', Stan does not get the joke.

Mike has at least 1 Ghibli movie in his top4 although he watched almost all of them. He is also an old movie lover, most of the movies he has watched are like from the 50s, 60s, 70s. His favourite genre is mystery, he has a list ranking all of the murder mysteries he has watched. He doesn't watch a lot of recent movies when he is not watching with the losers, he does however occasionally watch some feel-good movies from the 2000s and 2010s. He also watches some documentaries although Stan calls him a fake documentary fan because "Most of what you watch are just the unhinged ramblings of conspiracy theorists disguised in a documentary shaped trenchcoat". His favourite recent movie is 'Nope'.

Bev has watched a lot of sapphic movies, there is something appealing about them to her (which could mean nothing). The "good for her movies" are very hit or miss for her. Sometimes it's a fun time and sometimes she turns the movie off halfway through and watches a feel-good movie with Ben instead. She is a lynchian girl, those movies speak to her. Her favourite superhero movies are the spider-verse movies. She does also enjoy a good chick flick once in a while although Ben enjoys them more. She is also the only person who likes shitting on shitty movies with Richie and Eddie

Ben loves musicals and romcoms. He likes sappy movies and sings in the shower. Ben is a Disney/Pixar guy, he cries a lot during most movies but especially these ones. He loves the 'High School Musical' movies despite being like 30 when he first watched them. He is a Wes Anderson guy, his style and the colouring of his movies are very pleasing to him (Also the sets, he loves Anderson movies' sets). He and Bev watched the 'Twilight' movies as a joke and then got way to into them, now they rewatch these dramadies every year.

i’m not looking for someone to save the world. i’m looking for someone to make tea.

I used to be into very different things.

Before the world cracked open—politically, personally, physically—I loved media that was big, intense, and morally weighty.

Captain America. The Winter Soldier. Black Sails.

I was deeply involved in fandoms built around epic stakes, masculine grit, and emotionally stifled characters carrying impossible burdens.

And honestly? That made sense for who I was at the time.

I was deconstructing from Christianity, and those stories became a kind of ethical scaffolding. I was walking away from a belief system that had shaped how I understood good and evil, right and wrong, sacrifice and redemption. Captain America was trying to do the right thing in a system that no longer reflected his values. That was me, too. Fandom let me explore those questions with passion, community, and even joy.

But then came real-world devastation.

Between two awful U.S. presidential elections, I was diagnosed with multiple areas of breast cancer.

I lost parts of my body to surgery.

In the middle of recovery, I lost my brother—who I had only just reconnected with. He was in his early fifties.

That’s when something changed.

I needed a new space to breathe.

I found that space in softness.

I read Wintering by Katherine May, a book about surviving dark seasons gently. I watched Helen Cryer’s peaceful YouTube art videos. I played games like Animal Crossing, Cozy Grove, and Mineko’s Night Market, where the stakes were small and the worlds were kind.

Cozy became a cultural buzzword around then—cozy cardio, cozycore—but for me, it wasn’t a trend.

It was a lifeline.

And slowly, my taste in media transformed.

I started watching BL dramas from Thailand, K-dramas from Korea. And while I don't watch much anime (Ghibli aside), I felt a deep pull toward all that was happening in Eastern storytelling in general. These shows weren’t just gentle—they were emotionally rich. They dealt with trauma, grief, queerness, isolation, longing—but they did so with care.

Where Western stories so often demand resolution through force or righteousness, these let emotions unfold. They lingered. They felt.

I didn’t just want softness—

I wanted stories that could sit in sadness without trying to fix it.

And another part of the shift surprised me:

how my sense of beauty and attraction changed.

In my Marvel era, I admired actors like Sebastian Stan and Chris Evans—broad-shouldered, hypermasculine, rooted in a very Western ideal of physical strength. But I’ve since realized that what I often called “attraction” was actually admiration. I wasn’t yearning. I was analyzing.

Now, I find myself drawn to something entirely different: the softness, fluidity, and expressiveness of many BL actors and K-pop idols. It’s not just about being pretty—it’s about presence. About vulnerability. About being seen in ways that aren’t armored.

There’s elegance and openness, and a kind of aesthetic rebellion in how these artists present themselves. They don’t just accept the feminine—they own it.

And maybe that’s not new.

Maybe it’s a return.

As a Gen X kid, I was shaped by artists like Bowie, Prince, Grace Jones and Annie Lennox.

I grew up in a world where androgyny was electric, where softness had teeth.

I lost touch with that somewhere along the line.

Now I’m coming back.

But this evolution hasn’t just been about what I don’t want—

It’s also about what I’ve found.

There’s joy here.

There’s fun in K-pop and BL, in the backstage teasing and tiktok treads, in watching entire production companies function like found families.

There’s a giddy warmth in seeing people who like each other (Or love) work and play and create together.

It’s not just that the shows and music are healing—

It’s that the people behind them are, too.

The fandoms feel different.

The stories feel different.

I feel different.

I’m not looking for someone to save the world anymore.

I’m looking for someone to make tea.

So yes. My taste changed.

Not because I got bored. Not because I gave up.

But because I lived through things that hollowed me out—

And what filled me back up wasn’t just tenderness.

It was community.

It was beauty.

It was fun.

I used to need stories that taught me how to stand strong.

Now I need stories that show me how to live full—

grief and joy, softness and sparkle, all of it.

Sometimes I feel too afraid to express myself through writing fanfiction or artwork online, and sometimes I end up not posting anything at all, this will also reflect to my personal life outside of this. I know it's not healthy to do since it hurts my own mental health. I understand how happy I get when I become more expressive, but I get scared into hiding sometimes and I don't know why. Sometimes I have so much on my mind, but when I go to speak, I won't talk. It might be shyness or anxiety, but I wanted anyone reading this to know that even as an adult, I also have struggles sometimes and that's okay. It's okay if you're struggling too.

I think it's important to just remember you aren't alone in something and there's always the fact that you're doing your best and you'll be okay.

I wanted to share some of my biggest idols for me as a kid, maybe they might help you too like they did for me. I know these people aren't as famous as influencers today, but their words impact me to this day more than anyone else's words do. I believe they might have something to say that you need to hear.

Obviously Spider-man is not an actual person, but as a kid, he taught me a lot about responsibility.

I may not have known about Hayao Miyazaki as a kid, but I do know how much the movies of Studio Ghibli impacted my art and mental state growing up though. Movies from a studio like that is what helped me become emotionally intelligent when I struggled to understand something, all without words, and that's beautiful. And the artwork he does is what really clicks to me as well. I have always liked colorful and detailed things and I still do.

hehe im coming to say hi here instead of the other way around :3 but omg i think it just hit me now that.... w gwangil gone that's gonna be a very long time without an ot4 comeback and part of me just wants wonsang to enlist as soon as possible so that the time will be shorter until theyre back :( but i wonder if hes working on a lot of songs to put out while theyre enlisted since hes the producer.... i could def see yechan and sangyeop doing some type of comeback or putting out new music and maybe even collabing w other kbands like they did with daybreak. i honestly just hope we still get some new music cause idk how ill survive 2 years with no new lucy music (ik ill survive somehow but ive consistently been able to look forward to amazing comebacks from lucy since i stanned in 2022 during play era so... it'll def be a change of pace) BUT YEAH EMO HOURS HERE I COME 🫠

id be interested to know what you think their plan is for enlistment era. whether wonsang is gonna enlist sooner or later and new music timeline etc!! recently also been thinking about what type of songs lucy would write for you...

yechan would make a super emotional song and ofc its gonna have a beautiful violin section in it, i feel like he could even incorporate some classical music into it and it'd be soooo pretty. but more frequently than writing his own songs for you he'd always take your requests for anything you want him to play

sangyeop would probably put you through some emotions like he'd be singing his heart out to you and after hes done he'd be his usual bright cheery self acting like he didn't just make you cry from his pretty voice

wonsang 100% gonna write an admiration song about you like he did with holly LMAO and would poke fun at your habits or your relationship together, would prob sound like an anime opening too CAUSE HES WONSANG <//3 (my bias rly showing through damn why do i have so many thoughts abt this) but knowing how many songs he writes he'd prob have a range as well with some sadder or just more emotional romantic songs

gwangil is gonna write you the cutest and most heartwarming song ever just like his song would you dance with me !! i feel like hes really into the bright and fun side of love and while his voice is rly suited for slower softer songs, he would want to make you smile with his song, not cry so he'd stray away from that vibe skdjks

Seeing the photos from their schedules really made it hit home that he isn't there. Stoppp it hadn't even occurred to me that we won't be getting ot4 comeback for a while. I do hope that Wonsang goes soon, but you're right he's probably busy working on stuff that they can put out while he's gone. That would make most sense anyway. I think he'd maybe go around Dec/early next year? I'd imagine they'd want him to be there for award show season if they perform and then he'd go after that? I really hope Yechan and Sangyeop put out music or at least just do schedules while the others are away. Alot of the videos that I had seen when villain came out were just Yechan and Sangyeop, so I wasn't sure if that was them preparing us for how it will be over the next couple of years lol. I think they'll continue to thrive even as a duo, isn't N.Flying still doing well despite being down 3 members? (I haven't kept up to date with them, so I genuinely don't know. All I know is Seunghyub has been in a couple of dramas lol)

Sangyeop would be such a menace, writing such an emotional song that makes you bawl and then he'd probably have the audacity to tease you for crying after. I think his would definitely be acoustic (so that you can focus on his voice more) . I think the lyrics would be so beautiful, I NEED him to write me a song lol. I would cry if there was a key change in it, I am a sucker for a key change

Wonsang's song for Holly was so cute oh my goodness. Another song like domino would be so funny. It's such a funny song, especially with the intro ahaha. Maybe he would put funny sound bites from videos of you both in the intro, from clips of you doing the most stupid things (but he finds it endearing because he is so in love with you). Oh and the bit between the verse and chorus could be him listening off things that he loves about you (in his really cute voice 🥺)

I feel like Gwangil would write such a goofy song. I definitely think he would be able to write a really emotional song like Sangyeop, but he's not gonna show you that yet (he's waiting for the right moment because he's going to ask for your hand after, I need to stop lol). I could see it being a really cheesy song or one that's filled with stupid puns because he knows that you hate them but you love him and he's going to be annoying about it. I love how you said that he's "into the bright and fun side of love", I definitely agree with that. I agree that he wouldn't want to make you cry, I feel like his is the only one who wouldn't make you cry with his song (Wonsang wouldn't want to make you cry, but he writes such beautiful songs that I think he would do it accidentally lol)

I think I'm getting a little to in to this, I need to stop (but this will definitely be all I think about for the rest of the day lol). That was very fun to think about

Digimon Tamers - Episode 33

OMG INSTANT CLASSIC! This was seriously my favorite episode yet. It had the writing and pacing of a Ghibli movie (My Neighbor Totoro in particular). It had everything: pastel aesthetic, slice-of-life vibes, childhood innocence, adorable/badass digimon, BUNNIES (kinda). I'm obsessed with Shiuchon's little pink digivice. Yessssss.

I wonder if this is the point in this season where things shift. Both this episode and the last had a slower pace and felt less shounen battle-of-the-week than some of the previous episodes. Hope it continues this way.

Shiuchon sliding around on the couch was a mood. I actually used to dangle off the couch like that when I was little lol. Kinda strange to think Jian's parents are just living normally with the knowledge that their son's in another dimension.

Jian's dad falling down a playground slide on top of Yamaki was a pretty hilarious visual. I wanna see them become friends.

So when the other kids went to the Digital World they had to go through a portal/opening, but Shiuchon is basically abducted/beamed up? They do remark on the weirdness of this, but I wonder why...

Loved Shiuchon's childish reactions to things in the digital world. She's not afraid or really questioning her new surroundings much, just acting like she's in a surprise theme park or something.

I've just met Antiramon, but I already stan them. First of all the hugeness/height difference with Shiuchon is fun. I also like their weirdly long arms, little scarf, and Dutch rabbit-looking face (I've owned 2 Dutch rabbits). Also love their kinda androgynous voice and cute little mouth.

Antiramon humoring Shiuchon's whims was really adorable, but also...guess they didn't care about their job that much eh? Quite the softie.

The reveal that Shiuchon is the tamer of a Deva was kinda badass. It's funny that she instantly gains such a powerful partner but has no idea what's going on lol. It will be interesting to see her learn to use cards...

Lopmon has arrived!! You could fill the entire cast with just bunny-like digimon and I think I'd be happy tbh. Terriermon's mix of jealousy and relief was great.

Orcs by Stan Nicholls - my brother lent?? gave?? this to me several years ago and it's been languishing on my shelf ever since. i wanna read it just so that i can give it back to him and get it out of my house. i have no idea if it's supposed to be good.

The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty - i read City of Brass by this author a couple years ago and loved it and i need to finish the series but can't mention those because of my self-imposed Rules. this one looks like it'll be super fun though.

Hild by Nicola Griffith - i did actually start this toward the tail-end of 2024 but i had to put it on hold because i had too much other stuff going on by that point and i realised i'd need my Big Brain to get through it. i was enjoying it, though!

The Iliad by Homer, translated by Emily Wilson - i got this for christmas 2024 and i reeeeeally wanna get to it soon!

The Ninth Rain by Jen Williams - i have heard nothing but good things about this series.

There Are Rivers in the Sky by Elif Shafak - this one was a christmas present to myself, i just think it sounds right up my alley.

How Do You Live? by Genzaburo Yoshino - studio ghibli's the boy and the heron is based on this and i really wanna watch it but i wanna read the book first so hopefully i'll get to it soon.

Chain-Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah - i meant to read this last year but time got away from me so it's high on my list!

The Mars House by Natasha Pulley - i always start the new year in a real sci-fi mood and i also love natasha pulley's writing so this one was a no-brainer.

Inspired by this video, and out of a desire for something fun and stupid to do in the midst of the avalanche of work and responsibilities that is my day-to-day existence, I have decided to rate a bunch of common fanfic phrases. No one asked for this, but you're getting it anyway.

And hey, if there are any other writers who follow me, I'd love to hear others' ratings on any of these as well.

Some are spicy as a heads up, so 18+ just to be safe V

"tongues battling for dominance" - 4/10, not my least favorite in the world, but definitely been around for so long that it's lost impact. I understand that the original intent was to evoke a sort of combative intensity between the lovers, but now I can only think of it as like, two of those inflatable tube guys slapping each other around

"Scrambling for purchase" - 7/10, totally fine when not overused, there are enough variations on this phrase that I think we're at an okay place with it for now.

"[adjective] orbs," in reference to eyes - 2/10, literally there are so many better ways to talk about eyes that don't make me think of the eyeball separated from the body and floating in space. This is what I mean when I say that every word that exists has connotations and evokes something beyond its literal definition.

"the younger male..." "the shorter man..." - 1/10, this phrasing is very clinical and separates the viewer from the character by discussing them like a specimen in a lab. It only gets one point from me because I have been veeeeery close to falling into this from time to time because it is very difficult to talk about two same-gendered, roughly same-aged people using only pronouns and their names to indicate them. But people who use this way of referring to people frequently tend to overuse it, and then it becomes incredibly obnoxious. Incessantly referring to someone by their hair color is more understandable, but still irritating when overused.

"hard as steel," "soft as silk," etc - 8/10, I really don't mind it, though similes can become distracting if you keep piling them on until we have this image of some homunculus with tree-trunk limbs and a barrel torso and steel rod penis and waterfall hair and so on and so forth.

"Letting go a breath they didn't know they were holding" - 6/10, it's a dumb cliche, but I understand why people use it. Just give it a bit more time to imagine the moment and I think you'll find a more creative and evocative way to get the same idea across.

"___ toed off their shoes" - 8/10, I haven't actually seen this used that much? It's fine though, gets across a very specific and nice image, like the details of how people put their shoes on and off in Ghibli movies.

"Can I kiss you?" - 10/10, flawless, stunning, superb, we stan clear and direct consent. Plus, I have used this on dudes IRL to great success- a lot of guys are weak for a direct and straightforward proposition lmao.

Licking someone's lips to "ask for entrance" - 0/10, nobody fucking kisses like that, this is one of the clearest signs of an inexperienced person writing smut. Really pay attention to how you kiss, or how actors do it on screen. No one pauses to knock on the door and then open it- the mouths just tend to open naturally as things escalate. When people kiss, they can feel the tensing of each other's mouth muscles enough to anticipate roughly where things are going.

"[hair color]-ette" - -2/10, fuck this entirely. "Ette" isn't even a common suffix for describing hair color IRL, literally only brown-haired people are referred to this way, so I don't understand why fanfic writers have turned it into a template.

"carding fingers through their hair" - 7/10, pretty good, no complaints here, it gets across a nice, intimate motion that's nice to envision.

"mewl" - 5/10, a slightly odd choice when we already have moan, whine, whimper, sigh, and several other tone-appropriate choices, but not a big issue for me.

"smirking" - 8/10, I don't care if it's cliche, smirking is hot, fuck you

"keen" - -5/10, my least favorite by a huge margin, largely because when I noticed it was being used a lot, I looked it up and the strict definition is more like "mournful wailing at a personal loss," so this conjures the image of tickling a guys prostate and causing him to cry out in anguish for the deceased. I know language is flexible, but I will perish before I use this word in an erotic context lmao

"globes," referencing boobs or butt - 2/10, I get it, but no. Same issues as "orbs" above.

"blushing" - 9/10, don't make it the only reaction a character ever has, but over all, super cute, love it, practically essential tbh

"locks" referencing hair - 6/10, no complaints if it fits the tone of the writing over all.

"ministrations" - 2/10, yeah, I'm kinda done with this one tbh. I have legit used this in older writings, but I found it was a bit too much of a "smut dogwhistle" for my tastes lmao, like, when was the last time you heard ANYONE use this word in any non-smut context. Kinda seems like just whipping out an SAT word to sound fancy.

"Oh. Oh." - 9/10, pretty cute when used properly, and I have actually witnessed reactions like this IRL, so it's not overly gimmicky.

"[character] smelled like ___. ___. and something uniquely [character]" - 4/10, I get why we do this, and I have definitely used it in the past (I can honestly think of a couple examples), but I think we need to be a little more subtle and brief when it comes to scents. Smell has been called the most evocative sense, and humans have a lot of quick and subconscious responses to it, so over-writing it like this feels clunky.

Referring to siblings as "bro" and "sis" - 1/10, awful, I have a brother and sister and not once have I uttered these words at them. A sure tell that the author is an only child.

"Peppering kisses" - 9/10, it's cute, it creates a specific and pleasant image, I'm into it.

"Pregnant pauses" - 6/10. I don't see this much in fanfic, but I don't mind it. But I could see this bothering someone a lot more if they're less comfy with pregnancy as a concept and topic

"___'s heart skipped a beat," - 7/10, totally fine, just don't overuse it, it becomes pretty conspicuous pretty fast, and there are definitely other ways to express this feeling

Beginning the story by describing the weather - 4/10, only acceptable if the weather is the most important thing about getting the reader into the proper mindset. Plenty of famous novels do it, but they do it with intention.

"pillowy lips" - 2/10, no

"digits," referencing fingers - 8/10, totally usable when it fits the tone, I know I've used this one plenty

typed-out stuttering, "b-b-baka!" - 0/10, this is not how stuttering works, I'm begging you to go speak to a human. My fiance has a noticeable stutter, and it's way more common you get "stuck" on a word or full syllable, then shake yourself out of it and continue.

Euphemisms for naughty bits: member - 10/10, I use it practically interchangeably with 'cock,' but really just to avoid word overuse lmao length - 7/10, fine to use, but not as flexible as 'cock' or 'member,' makes me think more of the shaft part specifically manhood - 7/10, good to use once as a 'higher-impact' word to put a really firm emphasis on size and masculinity, but don't overuse rod - 4/10, not my favorite, but doesn't enrage me organ - 0/10, sounds gory sword - 1/10, goofy and kind of childish weeping erection - 3/10, 'weeping' is the main issue here, I'd rather use 'drooling' or 'leaking,' and even those can overstay their welcome mound - 4/10, I get what it's going for, but it makes me think of a mountain rising up from someone's crotch clamshell - -2/10, what are you doing, I do not want to jerk off to sea creatures folds - 6/10, serviceable when not overused heat - 7/10, also a fine option, if not very specific tunnel/channel/canal - 0/10, I have no desire to excavate my sexual partners flower - 2/10, sounds like the 'nice guy' way of referring to a vagina

I wanted to get into watching anime (I was looking into trying sailor moon and some studio Ghibli movies because those are popular) and wondered if you had any recommendations?

There's this preconceived ideas that older anime (80s-90s) were less harmful than today's.... which is true to some extent (especially when it comes to female representation : don't you find interesting that WOMEN are absent from modern anime/manga? only teen or children..... which breeds a generation of pedophiles/men who can't cope with mature women. At least in the 80s we had Versailles no Bara, Cat's Eyes, City Hunter female characters, etc. The FEMME Fatale trope was thriving) but there was definitely toxic/creepy things even in old gen manga.

I grew up with Sailor Moon, and most of this stuff flew over my head back then, but for example Usagi daughter (Chibi Usagi) had a flirtatious relationship with her father. Little Light studio YouTube channel has a whole playlist of videos exposing the cursed messages in anime I linked one of their video in one of my post in the my #animewasamistake tag, and they go as far as the 90s (with Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, etc.) So it's not new

I like flexing over the fact that I never watched a Ghibli movie. Most adults obsessing over those movie scream emotional retardation syndrome. I feel the same about Disney fans too (both demographics overlap anyways). Ghibli movies are filled with paganism so I'm losing my mind whenever I see Christians worshipping them🙄

The Isekai genre is a whole escapist cope anyway (beside Ghibli movies, there's also Kimi no Na/Your Name that did a lot of waves a few years ago) It's only featuring kids or teenager through coming of age stories, and it baffles my head that grown adults are obsessing and identifying so hard over such thematics.

Adulting in Japan sucks, that's why most of their entertainment revolves around glorifying youth & childhood (and entertainment material for adult is often sex related), a time where they are still free of pressuring social expectations, have an entire future before them to create and fantasizing about parallel dimensions where we can fix everything.... but we don't need to bring this regressive copium in the West. I think anime culture is part of why so many adults act & sound retarded today. I'll get roasted for saying that, but people above 25 years old enthusiastically watching anime have something wrong with them.

Ultimately I wouldn't recommend you to watch anime bc there's an obvious (mental & emotional regressive) agenda in it.

The only safe and clever anime I can think of is Shōkōjo Sarah. I grew up watching it and it made the person I am today. It's really emotional and bittersweet (still an happy ending though !!) but watching it will really show you how much of a gap there is between today's anime. Shōkōjo Sarah tackles real stuff (death, abuse, poverty, bullying, social class injustice, etc.).

Anime stans would argue that nekketsu too explore great values (friendship/newfound familly, courage, perseverance, etc.) but all this positivity is overshadowed by all the trash around. Senseless fighting, violence, ABSOLUTE ABSENCE OF ADULTS, PARENTS OR PARENTAL AUTHORITY, female characters devoid of any personality beside having big breast and being a side buddy/love intereset of the main character (hence why most male anime fans have such a warped view of adult femaleness)..

Avoiding manga/anime written by males is already a great way to sort out shitty manga. But even female author are shoving mysticism (Fullmetal Alchemist), weird romantic dynamic in their material (I'll never forget CLAMP obsession to do child/adult couples in Cardcaptor Sakura) and unecessary (underage) female sexualization (let's not forget Kimetsu no Yaiba main character's 14 y.o sister having her breasts doubling size & popping out of her kimono whenever whatever demon who's possessing her comes out).... I feel like the anime/manga industry is so porny & scrotified that even female author go with the flow to get success.

MUSIC TASTES AND GUILTY PLEASURE SONGS bros + undateables

Lucifer

Jazz, classical music, if he has to choose a modern artist then aurora or Videoclub, he vibes with French music a lot of the time. He also likes Piano and violin covers of more popular songs but cannot stand the originals. Satan and belphie are aware of this and take full advantage, much to his chagrin.

Guilty pleasure: mamamoo, hwasa specifically radiates Lucifer energy and I can 100 percent see him vibing with it. Levi swears he once saw him at a concert but would never say so, he gets a death glare from Lucifer every time he brings up mamamoo in conversation so he knows he saw correct but also he *doesn't want to die*.

Mammon

90s hip hop jams, queen, classic rock, overall has pretty good taste in music, adores abba

Guilty pleasure: he cries at the shrek soundtrack and he doesn't know why. Just straight up starts bawling to all star. Also romantic songs get him crying. He just can't. He has a playlist named 'MC' that's full of romantic songs he wants to dance with them to, but any time any of the songs plays he starts crying.

Levi

K-pop and jpop, he stans Loona. Listens to a mix of male, female and mixed groups and artists. surprisingly enough he goes to the most concerts out of all of the brothers, even beating Asmo out (since he tends to go clubbing instead). It's the only time he voluntarilly goes into such an enviroment. When he goes to a concert he doesn't mess about, VIP tickets and gets the best merch. He loves anime themes, also see him liking anything 'niche' so is a bit of a hipster and a massive music snob. Likes things like horrible histories songs and asap science elements song where he can study without studying if ya get me. Deffo can name every Pokémon. Pfft you like the original poke rap? Catch this boi listening to BDG's better pokerap and reciting every word, also rocks out to Richie Branson.

Guilty pleasure: Ariana Grande but hates that he likes it cos it's 'normie music'

Satan

Studio Ghibli soundtracks, heavy metal, baby queen, MCR, AKMU, Triple H, Gang of Youths, Paramore, good taste but very varied so his playlists are always jumping between genres.

Guilty pleasure: the front bottoms, esp. the song 'father' for obvious reasons, also likes Videoclub but knows that Lucifer also likes it so adamantly denies he likes it. Catch him alone in the library jamming out to 'En nuit' tho I dare ya

Asmo

Techno and clubbing music, as well as anything on a girls night playlist, you kno he knows all the words and has definitely sung every song while crying at 3am on a karaoke machine, also the Orion experience and anything normally played at a pride parade or rave

Guilty pleasure: babymetal. He knows it's not the vibe he gives off but he finds them adorable, deffo attends every concert but will deny it. Levi saw him at one once and it was the Spiderman meme. He swore him to secrecy.

Beel

Happy upbeat music he can work out to, modern pop works but really anything with a rhythm. Likes African drums because of this, can play the djembe drum. Probably attends a Zumba class and makes all the fellow demons drool, from his abs and the fact hes eating a 30 course meal while he does it

Guilty pleasure: Shakira? I'm gonna say Shakira. Beels hips don't lie but catch him dancing and he'll get embarrased.

Belphie

Green Day and anything anti-authority, MCR, bmth, he is vibing to emo bops and you know it.

Guilty pleasure: country esp. dolly parton cos he's a cow boi.

Diavolo

He loves country music and because of this he plays it on repeat in the castle and Lucifer cannot stand it. If only belphie knew his guilty pleasure songs would drive Lucifer insane, he would play them full blast every day just to piss him off. Yeah maybe it's good he doesn't know.

Guilty pleasure: Explicit rap music. He know it's not good for his royal image to swear but man, he loves it so much. Got a sweet spot for Nicki Minaj but only Barbs knows about it.

Barbatos

I can really see him liking Bollywood dance and music for some reason? I feel like his favourite instrument is the sitar. He definitely watches Bollywood dramas in his offtime and gets very invested. Will do the same with Kdramas, Jdramas, Mdramas, a secret drama hoe. Only a dramatic bish would !!!SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 20!!! Guilty pleasure: Nicky Minaj, who do you think introduced Dia to her huh? Also weak to kidzbop but don't you dare call him out on it. It's one of the reasons he and Luke get along so well. They vibe to kidzbop while they bake.

Simeon

Hymns I don't know what to tell ya, but also MUSICALS, Boi is a massive musical nerd and knows all the words. Luke once make the mistake of bringing up Hamilton and had to sit through him singing the entire soundtrack. It was good, don't get me wrong, but he was trying to do his human history class hw..

Guilty pleasure: lil naz x and Beyonce, but he blushed bright red the WHOLE TIME and prays for forgiveness after. Has definitely danced drunk to single ladies tho. Probably with mammon or Asmo.

Solomon

SALSA MUSIC this man can DANCE and dance he shall. Bachata all the way. But also shamelessly loves Nickelback. I'm sorry. I know. I can see him liking fall out boy, and purposely playing songs that reference angels and demons to get a rise out of them. He is the one that showed Simeon Lil Naz X.

Guilty pleasure: the spice girls. When Asmo found out they both had a mini concert in his room.

Luke

Kidzbop and hymns, but mostly kidzbop. He also likes studio Ghibli music, he listens to it while cooking, but he hates that satan likes it because *demon prejudice*.

Guilty pleasure: Avril Lavigne, more specifically girlfriend and skaterboi. Also likes Ariana Grande and Cardi B but has only heard their kidzbop versions and not the originals.
