The curve of your nose, the way your delicate hands slid over the page of the textbook, the way your eyes scrunched up at the bottom when you laughed at something stupid someone had said. Megumi sat, watching you in class as he always did. Since the moment you had joined the class, he knew Gojo sensei’s lessons would make even less sense than usual. And when your eyes landed not on him, but Yuji, he knew Gojo sensei’s lessons would be even more agonising to attend. He had watched as you grew closer and closer to his best friend, and Yuji in turn fell for you. How could he not? Every time Yuji placed his hand on the small of your back, guiding you, or rested his head on your shoulder, Megumi felt that same ache that had become oh so familiar. But with it brought that same gut wrenching stab of guilt, because he knew if he asked, Yuji would let him have you. He also knew what that would do to his best friend; rip out his heart worse than Sukuna ever could. And so he watched, watched as you began to lean into Yuji's touch, shared those glances with him that you thought were so secret. Megumi watched, and he ached. Did Yuji love you like he did? Could he? Or was this soul consuming love saved for those who didn’t deserve it. And he sure as hell didn’t deserve it. His best friend's girlfriend? It was almost laughable, how cliche it was. In those rare moments, where he allowed himself to think of you, it was him who held you, him who kissed you. And as euphoric as these moments were, they only drove home the truth. You weren’t his, and you never would be. He could only hope it was a stupid crush, that you would free his heart as the years flew by. But he knew that would never happen. Megumi was many things, but he wasn’t stupid. And so, he continued to watch. He watched as those pretty hands were decorated with a ring, and Yuji’s large hands held them as you spoke the words he had imagined you saying a million times over the years, but always to him.

And Megumi ached like never before

I just finished the bonus episodes of AoT and y’all…ya boi really has been through it. Any time mans made a friend the writers were like “absolutely not”.
