I think a lot about this scene because I really do think Katya loves Goncharov, but its so much more complicated than a love story tied up in a bow.

Say what you will about Martin Scorsese and Matteo JWHJ 0715 but it was incredibly progressive of them to show not one(1) but two(2) gay kisses onscreen in Goncharov, a film that came out in the 70s. Even more impressive that nobody seemed to have anything to say about it until now, almost 50 years after it was in theatres.

Did time mean nothing, or did time mean everything? After rewatching the cult classic Goncharov (1973) dir. Martin Scorsese, all I could think of was the other queer cult classic from the 70s. That’s when I blacked out and my hubris took over and now this exists. (link to redbubble shop here)

when sofia called katya “kitty” 🥺 and forced her to see herself as someone soft and precious and not just as a body for the men in her life… when kat was allowed to feel young and happy for the first time, not just this sharp-edged femme fatale (which she of course also is). but somebody finally sees her as something she didn’t know she could be. ugh my heart

My live thoughts while watching Goncharov (1973) for the first time. Please ignore all the spelling mistakes, I was very distraught at the time of writing lol. It was an amazing movie and it's probably going to be one I keep rewatching over and over again an unhealthy amount.

It’s gonchorav saying “the only thing I think about in the darkness of the night is you” while he has his arms wrapped around Katya standing on their balcony looking quite literally into the darkness of the night, but they both know he’s more so speaking that to Andrey who’s miles away. But katya doesn’t gaf cause while she’s looking into the darkness of the night all she’s thinking of is Sofia. And it’s the picture perfect romantic husband and wife scene on the surface, but then the camera softly zooming into both of their eyes and they both hold such forlorn longing looks in them as they think about their secret (ish) lovers. The level of read between the line TENSION in this movie is marvelous. Marvelous.

sorry for all the gonchposting it’s just one of my fav films and i’m glad it’s being talked abt on here. the art is sooo good i love katya and sofia content especially the fans are so talented. might write them a fic tbh
