Little do they know that their daughter and Brienne might enjoy their time alone a bit more than anticipated.

“This is so boring”, you groaned as you slumped onto the cushions that laid in front of the big window in your chambers, looking outside and watching the snowflakes dance their way to the ground.
Your parents, the King and the Queen, have been gone for a week now, and they won’t return for another. Being alone in a big castle with nothing to do except for reading and simply… existing… wasn’t too thrilling for you. There was, however, a little light at the end of the tunnel. Your parents decided that you shouldn’t be alone whilst they were gone, and therefore left you under the watchful eyes of Brienne of Tarth.
THE Brienne of Tarth. The strongest knight in all the seven kingdoms and your secret crush. Yes, it's true. You’ve admired her for a long time, and being alone with her was the cherry on top of the cake. One week alone with her and one week still to come, and she still kept a respectful distance, no matter how many times you tried chatting her up. On some occasions, even tripped on purpose so that she would have to catch you, only for her to set you on your feet and immediately take a step back. You loved how respectful and careful she was with you, but you just wanted to be able to cuddle up to her and run your fingers through that short, blonde and so soft-looking hair. You let out a frustrated sigh and leaned your head on the windowsill.
“I’m sorry you feel that way, my Lady. Perhaps we could go into the library to read?” Brienne offered, pulling you from your thoughts. You jumped slightly and turned to look at her. Since when has she been standing at the entrance to your room? She stood there in her royal Knights tunic, a belt fastened around her waist. You couldn’t get enough of the sight, staring at her without noticing as your cheeks flushed a light pink hue.
“My Lady?” the blonde tried again, ripping you from your thoughts once more. You let out a sigh.
“I don’t know… I don’t really feel like reading” You turned your head to the window again, not wanting to make her uncomfortable with your very obvious staring. Watching the snowflakes get less and less, you suddenly had an idea, sitting up quickly, which made Brienne jump a bit at the abruptness of your movement.
“Let’s go outside!” you suggested, turning your face to look at Brienne again with a wide smile. “Just for a walk!”
“I don’t know, my Lady…” Brienne was clearly hesitant and whilst you didn’t want to push her, you still wanted to do something else than just read and lounge around. You decided to give her your best puppy eyes.
“Please? Oh, please Ser!” You flutter your eyelashes and look at her with a pleading expression. The Knight thought for a second, then sighed and nodded.
“Alright.” She said, and you sprang up in excitement. You walked to your closet, pulled out your winter coat and furs and set them on your bed. Looking up, you saw Brienne still standing there. Was she waiting for you?
“I can meet you down in the hall so you can get ready too.” You offered, and she waited for a second, thinking and then nodding.
“I will be awaiting you in the Great Hall, my Lady.” She replied before leaving your room to get ready herself. You quickly threw on your coat and wrapped the furs around your shoulders, attaching them with straps so they wouldn’t fall. You put on your thick winter shoewear, grabbed your gloves and after a last look into the mirror you left your chambers. Just as promised, Brienne was waiting for you in the great hall, clad in her furs and thick boots. She had her sword strapped to her belt again and was holding the grip, resting her hand on it. Brienne looked absolutely stunning, standing there, hand on her sword, clad in her winter coat. You swallowed dryly and felt your cheeks flush as you approached her. Smiling sweetly at her, Brienne nodded and opened the door for you.
The cold air felt nice as you stepped into the open. Brienne and you walked through the garden towards the little forested area in silence, just enjoying the fresh air. The forest was dark, snow covering every surface. No tree, nor branch, nor leaf was showing. It looked as if you were walking through a magical portal. The only sound you heard was the soft whistling of the wind and your and Brienne’s footsteps in the snow.
“It’s beautiful, isn't it?” You asked, turning your head to look at Brienne who wore a soft, almost invisible smile, and she hummed in agreement. Her cheeks and nose were pink from the cold, and her eyes sparkled in the cold atmosphere. She looked ethereal. Your ears grew hot with a blush and you decided to look around. You reached an open area, surrounded by trees, and that’s when you had an idea. Bending down, you grabbed some snow, rolling it into a ball and then throwing it at the unexpecting blonde. With a soft ‘thud’ the snowball broke apart against the Knight’s coat, and she looked at you with surprise. You giggled.
“Let’s have a snowball fight!” You said, already leaning down again to pick up more snow.
“My Lady, I don't think this is a good idea. Maybe we should go back now. Your cheeks are all red. I wouldn't want you getting sick!” Brienne replied, but you didn’t answer, simply throwing another snowball at her with a teasing smirk.
“Come on Ser! It’s so nice here and the snow is perfect!” leaning down, you collected some more snow, creating another snowball and throwing it at her. Brienne seemed unsure, you saw it on her face. She wanted to let go and have fun, but she held herself back.
“I know you want to! Just do it! Promise I won’t be mad if you hit me. IF you manage to hit me.” You tease, hoping that would get her playful spirit up. The smirk on your face widened when you saw Brienne resting a hand on her hip, looking at you with a raised eyebrow.
“IF?” she asked “I don’t want to brag, but my aim is rather precise,” she said warningly, staring you down, but there was a playful smile tugging at her lips. You got her right where you wanted her.
“I’ll only believe it if I see it. Until then, I guess you’re just bad at snowball fights!” You teased, taking a step closer, and watched Brienne break her protective wall she built up. All the talking and the time you got to spend together made Brienne want to open up to you. You didn’t know it, but Brienne fell for you, hard. The first time she saw you, she was starstruck. The way your lips curled into a sweet and welcoming smile every time you saw her, the way your eyes sparkled and how animatedly you talked to her about your favourite topics, and she absolutely adored how clumsy you are. This week was difficult for Brienne for she wanted nothing more but to confess her feelings for you. But she didn’t. She was afraid you would reject her, so she kept her distance, but you made it more difficult every single day.
“I think you’re just a coward,” you test her, playful smile on your face as you throw another snowball at her. Her gaze turned into a competitive smirk, and at that moment you almost regretted teasing her so much. You knew her strength, her poise, her grace. You knew she would have you yield within seconds in a snowball fight, but you stood your ground. Wanting her to let loose and have fun for once.
“I’ll give you 10 seconds,” she simply said as she leaned down and started collecting snow for a snowball. It took you about 3 seconds to realise what she had just said, then your eyes widened, and you started grabbing snow, running away with a wide smile, a laugh threatening to spill over your lips. The moment you thought you had enough distance from her, you turned around, only to be hit by a snowball with deadly precision. It hit your chest and the snow trickled down your coat into your garments. You shrieked and just threw a snowball blindly, trying to shake the snow out of your coat. When you looked back up, a single laugh left your lips. You had hit Brienne square in the face with the snowball. Trying not to laugh too much, you took shaking breaths.
“I am so sorry, Ser. Are you okay?”  You took a step forward, then stopped dead in your tracks. Brienne wiped the snow off her face and looked at you with determination, a dangerous smile on her lips.
“I’ll get you back for that, Princess!” She said as she started charging towards you, snow in her hand. You squeaked and started running away, unable to hold your laughter back any more. You stumbled and tripped over snow, slipping and sliding the more you tried to run.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” you repeated over and over again between gasps of air and laughs. You turned around, wanting to see how close Brienne was, when you suddenly slipped and fell over, rolling onto your back with a laugh. Brienne came to an abrupt halt, which caused her to slip, falling onto the soft snowy ground next to you. She had a huge smile plastered on her face and quickly gathered some snow to throw it on you. You squealed again, wriggling around to free yourself of the snow. Brienne started giggling quietly and watched you, cheeks and nose rosy from the cold, the soft wrinkles next to your eyes from laughing and the wide smile plastered on your face. She was madly in love with you. With a swift move, you turn towards her, thinking it to be the best way to get rid of her throwing snow onto you. Rolling around, you suddenly realised that she was much closer than anticipated. You bumped into her chest, coming face to face with the strong blonde, who instinctively wrapped her arms around you. Your laughs came to a halt, just looking up at her with a smile, admiring her face. Brienne blushed darkly, she wanted to separate again, give you space, but she found herself unable to when you slowly leaned up and pecked the corner of her lips. She closed her eyes, just for a second, taking a shaky breath.
You did it. Suddenly, the realisation of what you did just hit you as you made eye contact with the Knight. Suddenly, you felt afraid. Before you could pull away and start rambling, the blonde cupped your cheek, pulling you close to plant a soft kiss on your lips, which you reciprocated gladly. She pulled away, stroking your cheek gently, looking into your eyes deeply. You smiled at her and your smile was so wide and happy, Brienne felt her heart burst. All the smiles, all the accidental touches, all the moments where you were so close to her and she pulled away. She now realised that you felt the same all along, and it filled her heart with joy and love. You pecked her lips again quickly, and then a shudder went through you, making Brienne frown.
“Are you cold?” she asked, sitting up and pulling you up with her. You nodded.
“Let's go back then. I don’t want you to get sick. Come!” She stood, pulling you up with her, and you held close onto her arm. You couldn’t believe it. She felt the same, she actually felt the same. This was no one-sided love. You were overjoyed.
The walk back to the castle was quiet. The both of you enjoying each other’s company, basking in the closeness that both of you have longed for so long. Walking into the castle, Brienne and you made your way to the library to warm up in front of the fire. Both of your coats were taken by the maids, taking them back to your chambers to clean them and put them back in the closets. The maids brought some tea for the two of you to warm up whilst you sat in front of the fireplace on the heaps of pillows and furs to warm up.
You leaned against Brienne as she had her arms wrapped around you, holding you close to her. You turned your head, looking up at her and pressing a kiss to her cheek, making her smile.
“Brienne?” you asked, nervous about her reaction to you using her first name. The tall blonde blushed. Her name sounded so beautiful coming from you. Like a melody, like a prayer. She hummed in response, urging you to continue. You sat up, taking a deep breath and looking into her eyes. She grew nervous seeing you so anxious.
“May… May I court you… Brienne of Tarth. Properly court you?” You watched her reaction before continuing. Her eyes widened as she watched you, speechless. Was this really happening?
“I- I have found myself a fool for you ever since I laid my eyes on you for the first time. So..- here I ask you. Will you allow me to court you, to cherish you… to love you?” You looked at her, holding your breath in nervous anticipation of her answer. Brienne nodded gently, tears threatening to swell in her eyes. She couldn’t believe her ears. But you were so sincere, you… you really loved her. She sat up, went on one knee and held your hand, looking into your eyes.
“My Lady… Y/N,” she started, “I will shield your back and give my life for yours if it comes to that. I swear it by the old gods and the new. I am yours, eternally.” You smiled at her, not being able to hold back your tears, as you wrapped your arms around her and kissed her lips. Her arms wrapped around your waist, holding you close to her as she let her emotions flow freely. Not once has she felt this loved and cherished. You pulled away, cupping her cheeks and wiping her tears from under her eyes.
“My Brienne,” you whispered, sealing the promise with a kiss once more.

~I need a favor~ Part 2
Part 1
Tumblr media
Pairing:Brienne of tarth x Reader
Warnlings : (+18) None I think.
Gender: mostly fluff.
Summary:Returning from a big battle, your friend Brienne has news that will change both of your lives forever, your relationship and your lifes.
><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><
It had been a few days since Brienne brought the baby home, several days in which the blonde had not left your side or your house, days in which she spent thanking you for your help whenever the opportunity presented itself. Every day that passed, the more you learned about life and the less you slept, the baby was a big responsibility and had strong lungs to cry and scream whenever something didn't agree with his standards.
It was a little tricky to manage the work and care of the baby, but when you went out to work or buy stuff, Brienne stayed behind to take care of him. The only problem was that when you got home, it was a complete chaos, the baby was probably asleep, but there were toys and clothes everywhere, some splashes of food, milk or water that you would have to clean up in the morning, and Brienne was full of stains that you didn't want to know where those came from.
However, that night when you arrived it was different, the house was clean, tidy, and quiet. The only light that illuminated the place was the brightness of the moon that came in when you opened the door, not a single candle was lit. Worried you took a knife from your bag, you knew how to use it thanks to Brienne teaching you, so you could defend yourself. You walked to where you usually let the baby sleep, but he wasn't there either, there were only his blankets. You kept looking around the house until it occurred to you to look at the cozy chair you had by the window, there was Brienne with the little baby asleep and lying on her chest. The blonde looked absently out the window, she conveyed a peace and tranquility that you had never seen in her before, she looked so happy and calm that you didn't want to interrupt the moment. You carefully lowered your knife letting out a sigh of relief that you didn't know you were holding, your friend smiled and turned to look at you, it was obvious that your presence could not go unnoticed by the trained knight
-"Good evening, how was work?"- She whispered very calmly to avoid waking up the little boy who was sleeping on her
-"It was good... I managed to bring more milk from the kitchen at work, the good quality kind so it doesn't give the baby diarrhea"-You also whispered and stood in front of them-"You want me to take him to his blankets?"
-"No, it won't be necessary anymore, I brought a gift" -she said, pointing with her head to a beautiful and delicate wooden crib-"we can place it wherever you like, preferably near your bed in case he wakes up at night or drowns... You like it?" - she smiled seeing how you inspected the crib, it was a great job of a craftsman carpenter, something that would surely be very expensive
-"Did you pay for this? It's beautiful but it's sure to be very expensive..."-You looked at her in surprise and she laughed softly
-"I had it made by a carpenter who owed me a favor after having saved her family... She even made us a wooden rocking chair for the baby, so we can put him to sleep..."-The blonde commented looking at you with a relaxed smile, you were surprised to see her so peacefully and so committed to the baby.
-"It's really a beautiful job, thank you for bringing it..."-you whispered and she handed you the baby carefully, smiling you laid him on your chest and smelled the scent of his little head instantly relaxing, you hadn't realized how much you missed him and how important he was to you until you held him in your arms again after a long day. Even though you hadn't seen him for just a couple of hours, your arms had felt empty at not having him. Delicately you caressed his little back and saw how he smiled asleep and relaxed and snuggled more into your chest making tender little noises. When you looked up, you saw how Brienne was watching you affectionately, smiling like a fool, you laughed and raised an eyebrow-"What?"- Your voice brought the blonde back to reality, she cleared her throat shaking her head
-"Nothing... I'll go put the crib next to your bed"-she whispered blushing and lifted the crib marking the muscles of her arms, leaving you and the baby alone in the dining room.
After a few minutes, when everything was settled, you put the baby on the crib carefully and covered him, relieved he didn't wake up. Brienne must have been playing with him for a long time if he was so deeply asleep. When you started to change your clothes, the blonde was about to retire to go to sleep in the living room, but you took her hand and stopped her, your friend blushed when she saw that you were in your underwear
-"Don't you want to sleep here in my bed? It's more comfortable than blankets on the living room floor and I know you're tired after taking care of the baby all day..."- You whispered a little embarrassedly and saw the doubt in her eyes thinking an objection, but before she could say anything, you interrupted her again-"I don't want to sleep alone, and if I fall into a deep sleep I'm afraid I won't hear the baby if he wakes up... Please..."-You pleaded in a whisper and she sighed nodding
-"Okay..."-she agreed. After the two of you put on your pajamas and went to bed you tried to sleep but couldn't, sleep had left your tired body. Instead, your head had begun to reproduce everything your life had changed in those few weeks since the baby arrived
-"Bri... Are you awake?"-You whispered and the blonde babbled tired but awake-"You know, I was thinking maybe it's time for us to give him a name... If it's going to be our family we can't keep calling him baby or little one, he needs a proper name"-You spoke in a whisper and turned on the bed coming face to face with the blonde who was looking at you with a sleepy smile
-"I think it's a great idea, have you thought of any name?"-she asked curiously
-"Gisli..."-You barely whispered
-"Why?" - she asked
-"'Cause it means ray of sunshine, and you are the sun, the sun that brought this little sunshine home and into my life..."-You whispered and she stared at you - "if you think it's silly we can choose another one..."
-"I love it, it's a very beautiful reason for choosing it... It's cute... Like the baby and like you" - she whispered and kissed the tip of your nose making you giggle and blush. In what little light there was, you could barely make out any shape, but you could feel the heat her body radiated so close to yours, the only thing you could make out was the reflection of the moonlight on Brienne's hair. The moment you shared was very intimate, the whole last weeks you had spent together had been intimate. The two of you were very close, her breathing was very near to your lips, so much so that if you leaned in just a little you were sure you could kiss her. She and you had kissed before on a night when the two were drunk and made embarrassing decisions, but this was different, you were both very aware of what was going on. Slowly you grabbed her hand, Brianne's lips brushed against yours, as if some sudden movement would break the magical bubble you were in, where no matter what life she led, you could be together, where you could truly be a couple, a family, where anything was possible. You didn't know who closed the distance, you or her, but finally your lips connected with hers letting out a big sigh of happiness, it was as if every cell in your body woke up one by one just to think about her, to feel hee. Your hands grabbed her cheeks and she took your hips, gently tickling you under her touch. Your body began to rise in temperature and all you wanted was to be closer to her, for your body and soul to become one with her, not necessarily sexually, but in every sense of the word, to be hers and for her to be yours, for the two of you to give yourself to each other without fear of the future and without any restrictions. To get closer to her, you wrapped your leg around her hip while still kissing her and she held your thigh possessively, making you gasp from the force with which she was holding you. Her leg slipped between yours, brushing her thigh at your crotch which made you feel hotter and more restless, letting out a soft moan on her lips . You had no idea where that could go, but no fantasy was fulfilled that night as the baby cried while still asleep, dreaming about something, breaking the moment and bringing you two back to reality. Your breathing was ragged and so was hers, neither of you knew what to say or do. After checking that everything was okay with the baby, you went back to bed and the blonde was turning her back to you, compared to the heat that her body radiated minutes before, now a shiver ran through your body because of the distance you felt from her
-"Brienne..."-You whispered but she ignored you—"do you want to talk or..."-You insisted, but she interrupted you
-"It's too late, we have to sleep. Good night" - She replied curtly and you sighed turning and hugging yourself to keep warm, trying to relax a little so you could stop overthinking and sleep even a little.
The next morning when you woke up, it was still very early but Brienne wasn't in bed and the baby wasn't in his crib either which made you sigh sadly, you could still feel the ghost of her kisses on your lips and the rejection when she realized what she was doing. Without much desire, you got up and walked to the dining room where you found the two of them sitting while the blonde fed the little one, you couldn't help but stare at her, she looked and felt very good at your house and next to you, as if she belonged there with you, but you also knew that if you talked to her about that and about what had happened the night before, if it didn't end well, it could make everything very complicated, not only because of the friendship you had but because now you were taking care of a child together. You sighed, running your hands over your face watching as she gently patted the baby's back to get the gas out, the little boy laughed every time a small burp came out of him
-"Good morning Brienne... Can we talk please?" - You spoke determined to put an end to the insertitude that was in your head, Brienne carefully left the baby in a blanket with a stuffed animal you had made for him
-"No good conversation ever started with that phrase" - she joked as if to make you laugh but it didn't work - "look, If this is for the baby or me being to much at your house, I'll try to make things easier for you or take him with me a few nights... Anything that you want... You have done so much for him that I can't ask you anything else..."-She whispered a little embarrassedly and you sighed
-"It's not for him, it's for us, for what happened last night... The kiss, the electricity, the connection... I know I didn't imagine that feeling..."-You replied and this time it was her turn to sigh
-"We've had this conversation before... You know no matter how many feelings we have for each other, we can't be together, I don't want to hurt you..." - she said, avoiding your gaze
-"But you hurt me anyways, that's what you don't get it... Being with you feels good and this house feels like a home when you're with me, I'd rather have nothing but having you and the baby, than having all the riches in the world, because if I have you two, I have everything I need. I know you're afraid to do this because you're scared of the future, because you don't want to make me suffer if you get hurt in battle and don't come back. But I suffer more every time you're with me putting up a wall to keep your distance from me, I suffer more in those moments, than when I have to wait for you to come back from the battles... I suffer anyway waiting for you whether we are a couple or not, because even if we are nothing, I still love you and for me you are everything...I'll suffer more if I don't have you, than if you're mine and I have to wait for you to come back"-Brienne looked at you in surprise as she listened to you
-"You what?" - she asked
-"I said you like it or not, that I love you...I love you both and our little and unconventional family, because that's what we are, a family, even if you don't admit it"-You said more confidently and she smiled at you making you a little uncomfortable for not understanding why she was smiling - "Why are you smiling?"
-"Because you love me..."-she replied in a mocking tone
-"Look, if you're going to laugh at me for what I said, I'll get you out of the house and I won't let you in even if you're freezi..."-You said with a frown but the blonde grabbed your waist tightly and pulled you closer to her by sticking you close to her body, causing a small cry of surprise to come out of your mouth. Brienne was still smiling and caressed your cheek looking into your eyes, making you blush a little from the intensity of her gaze
-"I love you too... A lot... I love you, the baby, and our little unconventional family... And I'm terrified of hurting you if I ever get wounded in battle and I can't come back... But I'm more afraid that if I try to avoid a relationship with you, someone else will come and take this little piece of heaven away from me... So scared or not, I want to be with you if you'll let me... I want to be with you and the baby, I want our little ray of sunshine to grow up with both of us... "-she gently kissed your lips smiling, making you smile too-" I'm yours, and if you let me, I want you to be mine..."
-"I wanna be yours"- You whispered and hid in her chest, taking advantage of the warmth while she hugged you. The little baby, seeing how the two of you were together without including him, started screaming making you laugh. Carefully you picked him up and hugged him, putting him between you and Brienne, the little one curled up in your chest and frowned at Brienne-"I think you're already late, you'll have to fight for my love with him"-You whispered laughing and the blonde started tickling the baby making him laugh a lot
-"It will be a tickling fight until someone gives up, the winner will stay with you and your love, everything is allowed"-She said jokingly and the baby took advantage of the blonde's closeness and grabbed her golden curls with great strength, pulling them roughly-"Okey Okey, I give up"- the blonde said and you carefully opened the baby's hand to let go of her hair and she breathed a sigh of relief - "Cheater"- She muttered looking at the baby
-"You said everything was allowed" - you laughed and she pouted at you, carefully you gave her a little kiss on her lips-"You don't have to fight, there's enough of me for you both..."-Brienne smiled hugging and kissing your foreheads, her heart full of love and happiness with her little perfect family.

Goodness she was beautiful, wasn’t she?
The most beautiful woman ever. In all of the seven kingdoms. In all of the world.
Not even the glistening snow beneath the Northern sun could compare to the way her hair shone like gold. Not even the blue of the Westerosi sky could hold a candle to the ice of her eyes… the brilliance in her stern gaze… the heart behind her iron. And not even the music of a humble bard or the playing of a prodigy could create the same song that was found within her voice. It was deep, melodic, enchanting in a way that many couldn’t see.
And how they couldn’t see- how they could judge such a brilliant woman without knowing her- how they could look at her and think she was beastly…. Well that was something you’d never be able to understand. That was something you’d never be able to wrap your little head around because when you looked at her, you pictured the way that scar on her lip would look when she grinned; when you looked at her, you imagined how lovely it would be to make her laugh. And weep with joy. And rush over and drag you into her arms and pick you up and swing you around. And as far as you knew, no one wanted any of that from ‘the Tarth woman’. No, no one wanted to make her smile and no one wanted to hold her hand and no one wanted to whisper the sweetest of nothings into her ear at night in the same way you did.
And because of that, they were idiots.
All of them. Every single one. Every person or creature that looked upon Brienne and thought her anything less than magnificent were to die the most horrible deaths. And those that spread the rumors of her existence, calling her the filthiest names, were due to die by your hand - even though you didn’t have much experience with a sword. That wouldn’t really matter anyway in the heat of an angry moment; fueled solely by the mental image of her tears. She had never cried around you of course, but you knew she did. You knew that sometimes her eyes were rimmed red and sometimes her chin quivered at the end of a particularly difficult day. You also knew that being a warrior- being a noble soldier- was hard. Hard and taxing and draining in a way that left her aching for peace and quiet once the sun had set.
Unfortunately, she never really got any of that when spending dinner with everyone else. They were all too loud and drunk, not even caring about the exhaustion that plagued their peers. You ate off to the side as a stable-hand, but even from that angle you could see the blank darkness in Brienne’s eyes. It was like clock-work. The stars would show themselves and she would sink into a state of sleeping while functioning. Standing, walking, eating, drinking, but sleeping on the inside. It would have been far more adorable if it weren’t so worrying. You didn’t know how she slept but if the circles beneath her eyes said anything, it was that her nights weren’t exactly filled with the sweetest of dreams. If there was any way to remedy that, besides sex, drinking, and extreme physical exhaustion, you would do your best to find it and present it to Brienne. But you weren’t sure such a thing existed. Hell, even sleeping by yourself had become difficult. You always shared a bed with your siblings when you were younger- and sleeping in quarters with others once you began traveling had become the new normal. Unfortunately, that meant that when you found your own path and eventually stumbled upon Northern lands, sleeping alone was foreign to you. Just as foreign as the Starks and just as foreign as their rule. Yet somehow, despite your inclination toward shivering when winter surrounded you so frequently, you wormed your way into a job and found yourself becoming friends with the horses. And since you fit in there, everyone left you alone.
That was probably the only reason why no one had caught your straying eyes just yet. You could flit between the shadows and rest within the musk of the beautiful creatures you tended to and no one would look your way. It was a shame then that Brienne existed within that ‘no one’, as well. In fact, you weren’t sure she even knew who you were. That wasn’t her fault though. She was extremely busy and always had one more thing to do - and every time she approached the stables, someone else would rush to help her… and you’d be left in the dust, watching forlornly as they readied her steed.
It was tough to live like that - detached, alone, full of an earnest ache. You watched as everyone lived their lives and yet all you could focus on was Brienne. Always Brienne. And how she didn’t fall asleep next to you each night. And how you didn’t get to assist her in putting on her armor, or combing her hair, or merely keeping her company as she sharpened her sword or filled out her paperwork.
It was torturous… but it was better than getting close and being rejected. After all, Brienne of Tarth was not one for love in the same way she was for honor. No, not a soul could change the way she stood for her morals and stuck to her path. And with that- no love could lead her astray. It was a good defense mechanism; it was an ‘iron will’ way of living… but it also meant that any of her admirers were thrown into the dark. It also meant that you, the one with a heart that whispered her name while you slept, had no chance of getting to know her better. And that led you to wish upon meaningless stars. That led you to fill your nights without a fire, sitting on bales of hay, staring up at the sky and asking the old gods and the new why they had decided to keep something so brilliant just out of your reach. To keep a sapphire locked away in a cursed treasure chest. To keep you tripping over yourself whenever she walked into the light - strong and tall and strapping and alluring in ways you never could be. And even though you had things to do during the day; horses to care for and feed and wash and stables to clean and stock; you were carried away somewhere else whenever Brienne showed up. It didn’t matter if it was for a second or for an hour - time was no issue for your heart.
And on warm nights like that one, where her eyes slowly traced the grooves of the wooden dinner table, time became nonexistent once more. There were men and women exchanging stories and laughing their asses off and raising glasses for whatever celebrations they were commemorating - but Brienne didn’t care. She ate slowly, she listened, she shuffled her feet, and sometimes she looked up at the stars. As if praying for something no one else was privy to. And you, who ate your dinner silently while leaning against the inside of the stables door, observed her as though she were a painting. Admiring the way the light of the flames lit up her pale skin and wondering if there was any chance at all that you might be able to feel it one day. To perhaps press your lips to her hand and kneel at her feet and run your hesitant fingertips along the lines of her muscles. It was all wishful thinking, yes, but that didn’t stop the way your heart burned whenever she lifted the spoon to her lips and licked them idly afterward.
Those thoughts would, of course, always remain your own - locked inside the depths of your mind, never to be pulled into candlelight, but even so…. even so….
Well, that didn’t matter. None of it mattered; for soon enough, dinner was over and everyone was returning to their posts or their chambers. Your eyes followed Brienne until she drowned into darkness…. and then you were left alone once more.
The other stable-hands were off to bed with everyone else, but you were known for lagging behind. ‘Double checking everything’ was your usual excuse - but you weren’t really checking a damned thing. Other than the shape of the moon, of course. Yes, the shape of the moon and the twinkle of the stars and the fluffiness of the clouds.
They were really moving quite quickly that night - dancing across the sky like old friends holding hands. Disappearing into another part of the world, traveling with the birds, keeping the stars company. And the stars, you could hear, were whispering amongst themselves. Murmuring about the humans and how they looked sleeping in their beds and how the animals were licking their pelts and nuzzling their young and how souls like you were spending far too much time staring up at stars like them. All while they skirted around the moon, some close and some far, mingling like guests at a party. And the moon herself - brighter than all of those silly stars and smarter than the most intelligent king - was listening out for more of your lamenting. Keeping a metaphorical ear open as she usually did, all while giving you a knowing look.
Though really it was your fault for falling into a routine with the moon. She was very sassy but very kind- understanding and expecting things that you had no idea existed. And thus, she began to expect your words before you nodded off to sleep. And sometimes, when you were deemed worthy enough, she shared her thoughts about the universe too. But if it was just between you and her - if you were certain no one else was around - you’d speak of the one good thing that made your long days feel like scented lily water swirling about within an ivory bowl. The one good thing that made you smile to yourself when you remembered a wicked comment she had made to a rude fellow during dinner one evening…. The one woman who had so thoroughly stolen your heart. And who did not even know your name.
“Oh, my moon… I am absolutely fucked, aren’t I?” You shook your head and crossed your arms. “So so fucked- and not in the good way, mind you. Oh no, not at all. Never. Not in this part of the world - and not with these people,” you couldn’t help but snort at the mere idea. You? With those in armor or royal robes? Hell would freeze over. And you could hear the moon laughing gently in reply. “Yeah yeah… not in a million years, I know. And not with the person I want, oh gods. Could you imagine, moon? Me with her? I’d need at least a thousand showers before taking one step toward the Brienne of Tarth.” Your voice (and your eyes, admittedly) grew soft when you said her name.
And when you blinked up at your conversation partner, the edges of her round shape seemed softer too. As if she were really listening… and knew of your struggle. At that thought, you tilted your head.
“Ya know, in all of the years I’ve talked to you, you’ve never mentioned the sun… I wonder if she means anything to you.” You looked down, picking at your nails while rambling into nothingness. “That’s an interesting thing, isn’t it? The sun and the moon… two star-crossed lovers. Literally. Against all odds and all that… Man, I wonder if that’s the truth……… Is that the truth?” You curiously peered up through your lashes - only to find that the moon wasn’t going to give you an answer. Of course not. Some things she preferred not to share. And you nodded your head at that. “Fine, fine, keep it to yourself. See if I care.”
Things lapsed into silence…
…But eventually your lips turned up into a smile.
Honestly, talking to the moon, although therapeutic, was always like a little game. You felt comfortable with her - and unbelievably connected; you only wished that others spoke to her as you did. Yes, if only people made friends with the moon more often - perhaps then the world wouldn’t be in such disarray.
And at that, you huffed, sagging against the wood behind you.
“Today was slow. Everyone was actually doing their jobs for once. And Brienne was busy- and then she was tired this evening. She ate so slowly. Gods I can’t imagine the stress she’s under…” and then came a pause before you cleared your throat and wrung your hands, a bit embarrassed by your next words. “Would you- um- perhaps- gift her a better sleep tonight? One filled with stars and clouds and poetry and music and- and even love? Please? I know it’s a big ask, I know I know, but- gods she really deserves it. She really really deserves it. More than anyone else, I think.”
And of course it was just another silly wish but still- optimism bred good results, didn’t it? Maybe not all the time but on occasion it did. And if being optimistic meant that the chances of Brienne getting better sleep were higher, then you’d start to believe that things were getting better. Or that life was truly enjoyable beyond your infatuation. Or that the love you had for her wasn’t pointless. Yes, you’d even start to believe that everyone would live forever. That no one would die. That Brienne would always be safe.
The sigh that fled from your lungs was bone-shaking.
“There’s really no hope for someone like me, hm?” You knew your eyes were sad when you stared up at the moon once more. “I’m just- meant to be this way forever, aren’t I? Until someone comes along and somehow just sweeps her off of her feet… and then when that happens, she’ll be too busy to care about seeing the stable-hands. Or hell- even visiting the stables at all! Gods….,” You shook your head, putting a clammy hand up to your temple and rubbing at the itch near your hairline.
Despite the warmer temperatures, the wind was still chilly - and it sent a shiver through you then. It ran straight through your thin uniform and pierced your skin. Your hands reached for your biceps, crossing themselves once more as you sniffed.
“…Welp… I guess that’s that, then. I know my conversational skills are not that polished tonight, but I’m too worn to bother. I’m sorry,” your eyes gave the moon an apologetic glance.
And you were sure then that if she were a real person, she would have likely waved away your sorry and merely shaken her head at your pathetic little thoughts.
‘Like a lovesick dire wolf pup… tsk tsk tsk…’
“Well they’re not terrible,” a smooth quiet voice spoke into the night, “but your whispering could use some work.”
You turned, nearly startled out of your skin as you jumped off of the hay bale you were on and faced the direction of the voice. It came from the shadows - along with the sound of footsteps that you hadn’t heard before. You gulped, your hands clenched at your sides as the figure stepped into the light.
And there- there-
“Oh…” you breathed, feeling a lightness to your bones that you hadn’t felt in many many years.
Oh…
Oh…
Oh gods…
And there she was…
There she was.
Goodness she was beautiful, wasn’t she?
Most certainly.
The most beautiful woman ever.
In all of the seven kingdoms.
In all of the world.

Hope you all enjoyed! I’m still working on requests lol - this was just a filler. I may dive more into Brienne later. Let me know what you think <3 - Ripley

The Dance (Larissa Weems x Reader)
Word count: 1589
Warnings: None, just fluff.
Notes: This is my first Larissa fic so pls be nice! Any interactions will be much apricated.
**
Darkness filled the sky, sun setting and moon rising. Tonight was the school dance. I'd been dreading it, but also looking forward to it. On one hand, there would be a whole hall-full of teenagers. On the other hand, I knew they would all be having a good time, they deserved a break from their studies.
I was a teacher here at Nevermore, and I was one of the teachers, herbology to be exact. This was my one year anniversary that week actually. My job was great, assisting all the students gave me joy. It was my dream job. And not just because of the teaching.
Suddenly I heard a gentle knock.
I quickly slipped out of my daydream, realising where I was. Sitting in my car and staring ahead at nothing in particular. I turned my head to the side, seeing an angel outside the door.
And by angel, I meant Larissa Weems.
God, she was exquisite. The way her crimson red lips twitched into a smile, the way her liquid blue eyes focussed on me, making me feel like the only woman in the world. Her platinum blonde hair was perfectly styled, framing her face perfectly, cheekbones highlighted. I could go on and on about this woman, and given the chance, I would.
My hand fumbled quickly to open the door, subsequently bumping Larissa with it.
"Shit, sorry-" I slipped out of the car and looked at Larissa with worry. "Are you okay? I didn't hurt you did I?" If I was ever the reason to harm this angel, I would never forgive myself.
"I'm okay, darling, it was just a bump." Her words were smooth, tinged with amusement. Good to know she didn't mind my clumsiness.
I smoothed down my shirt, worrying that there were any creases. I had to look my best when Principle Weems was around. My head tilted upwards as I met her eyes. The height difference was significant, but that never bothered me. To be honest she deserved to be looked up to.
"Are you going to stay here or join me inside?"
I nodded quickly, a blush forming on my cheeks. "Yes, sorry, I was lost in my thoughts." She laughed at this, that deep laugh that I loved so much.
Then the doors to the dance opened, light spilling across us, as I was parked near the doors. Her eyes travelled down to my attire, noticing it for the first time. And a smile appeared on her lips. "You look.. very nice."
My heart sunk a little, I wished I looked more than 'nice' to her, but I grinned nonetheless, because she didn't have to comment on my outfit at all, she chose to. I was wearing crimson suit, not too fancy but a little more than casual. I was well dressed, I had to admit.
"Thank you." God, did I have no range in my vocabulary at all?
With this light, I then noticed her outfit. A light blue dress that hugged her curves perfectly. I cleared my throat, not commenting on it because I knew I would probably stutter out a pathetic 'you look drop dead gorgeous'. She seemed to notice where my gaze was, and I was sure I could see amusement behind her eyes, as if she knew what I was thinking.
"May I walk you inside?" Larissa moved her arm in a fluid motion, pointing to the building. The idea of arriving at a dance accompanied by the most beautiful woman.. it gave me butterflies. Though there was always that sadness, because she would never see me as more than a colleague.
"Yes of course."
Together we made it through the door and the decorative arch made of balloons. The students that had sorted this all out had taste, because not many people could style balloons and not make it look tacky.
"So as this is your first time chaperoning at the dance, it's only fair I-" Larissa was cut off when she noticed a group of students taunting Ajax, a known gargoyle.
"Sorry, I'll be right back." She left, her Principle Weems side showing. I was curious as to what she was about to say but at the same time I knew that Ajax didn't deserve to be bullied. My gaze lingered on Larissa, she had finished correcting the situation, but another teacher had started a conversation with her. I didn't mind, it gave me an opportunity to admire her. She was so beautiful, so graceful, in every movement and every word.
"You're so in love it makes me retch."
I jumped at the voice, turning my head to see the infamous Wednesday Addams. I chuckled nervously. Wednesday noticed everything, and she was nearly always right about things (not to the amusement of teachers).
"I'm not in love, I don't know what you're talking about." Yes, play dumb. Pfft, as if I were in love with Principle Weems.
"Just tell her. It's pathetic seeing you both moon over each other." And with that, Wednesday left, joining her date to the dance.
Did she mean.. Larissa was 'mooning' over me? Ms Addams was usually right, as I said, but surely..
"Hi." I jumped again at another voice next to me. I looked over and saw Larissa Weems.
"Hey.. do you want a drink?" I gestured to the several bowls of fruit punch that had been organised by students.
"I better not, it wouldn't surprise me if one of those students managed to get alcohol in it." She let out a laugh, but her eyes never left my face. "You're welcome to have some though."
I shook my head, "I'm a lightweight, I'd probably be hungover in the morning." I chuckled as she laughed.
"Fair enough." She then spotted Wednesday who was throwing us annoyed looks. I could take a guess as to what she was sulking about, but Larissa on the other hand sighed, turning back to me. The music then changed, from upbeat to a more classical piece. Wednesday almost smiled, almost.
I looked away from Larissa, because all I could think about was what it would be like to dance with her. Swaying to the music, my hand on her waist, hers on mine.. in a perfect world. Sadness washed over me. The woman I was in love with most definitely didn't love me back. Why would she? I was just the clumsy herbology teacher.
"Is something the matter?" Larissa asked, her eyebrows furrowed, a sign that she was concerned that I had been staring into space again. I nodded quickly, plastering a smile on my face.
"Yes. I just need some air." Turning away, I walked to the back exit, opening it and enjoying being hit with the cool evening air. I inhaled, trying to rid myself from the self pitying thoughts. I guess I could moon over her in bed tonight, as I did most.
"Dear, tell me what's wrong." Principle Weems had followed me out and stood in front of me, so I couldn't look away. Fuck, how was I supposed to come up with a believable lie? Or maybe I shouldn't lie, maybe I should tell the truth. I took another deep breath, preparing for the rejection I would sure face after admitting the truth.
"I like you, Larissa, more than I should. I just get sad sometimes that I never will have the chance to dance with you." My eyes moved anywhere but her, focusing on the gravel eventually. The silence was thick, making me cringe, wishing I had never been born. Until..
"What makes you think that we would never dance?" Her tone was soft, causing me to jerk my head back up in surprise.
"Because I know you'd never like me like that." My heart only sunk further, did she not understand what I meant? There weren't very many ways to interpret my confession.
"Darling, for a clever woman, you sure are silly." Larissa took a step forward, her hand raising to cup my cheek, causing my face to heat up like an oven. She'd probably burn herself from my skin.
"But-" I was about to protest, to make her see clearly, but before I knew it her lips were on mine. My eyes widened, frozen in place, before relaxing, kissing her back. It was a sweet and gentle kiss, one that left me breathless by the time we parted.
My cheeks were flushed, taking a step back and looking at Larissa with wide eyes. She let out an adorable chuckle, the corner of her lips curved into a smile. There was a silence, I tried to think of something to say, but I was speechless.
"I've been wanting to do that for some time now." She admitted, breaking eye contact for a moment as she glanced to the floor. My my, was Larissa Weems going shy on me?
"Me too, it's very hard not to want to kiss you, all the time." I let out a deep breath, because all these months longing over her had finally paid off. We'd kissed, and everything in the world finally made sense. She was the new piece in my life that I so very needed. "We should do that more often." A cheeky grin as I watched her laugh in response.
"How about you meet me in my office after the dance is over?" Her proposition had my head swirling. She actually wanted to meet me, in a way far past professional boundaries. I smiled widely, fighting the urge to dance.
"I would love to."
And after that, we shared a few more kisses before going back inside the dance, acting to everyone as if nothing had happened. Though I caught Wednesday looking at us with a slight smirk on her face.

have you ever wondered what captain phasma looks like without her helm? perhaps i have an answer to your burning curiosity…
Tumblr media
in this i’d like to also discuss some headcannons for miss phasma that i had mentioned with @agathaandgwenslesbian because cappie phazzie is just so… 🥰😍🙏✨✨
- the scar on her eye is both a cut and a burn. when she fell in all that fire the only spot unprotected by her armor was the break in her helm, and now it's a patch of burned skin. the harsher scar pictured here is present as well because that scar comes from the initial blow from finn.
- i'm also willing to bet phasma doesn't wear makeup either. "there's no time for it nor is there a need". however she would, on free time/when she's training, wear industrial/cargo pants, thick military/combat boots, and a gray tee tucked in neatly with a simple black belt. the logo to accompany that shirt is a small first order sigil near the collarbone and on her pants she would wear patches with her name, rank, and perhaps home flag on it as well as the first order's sigil as a patch.
- she's not offended by the assumption of masculinity, because she takes on the role of forceful and brutal commander whilst maintaining a strong reputation amongst the ranks of the first order. secretly, though she sees him as freakish and only tolerates him for his status, she's quite amused by kylo ren and wouldn't have it any other way. “the first order is not the same without him." she would also quietly tease him for his inability to find the map to skywalker.
- she would also probably take great pride in how shiny her armor is and routinely keep it clean on her free time, desperate to keep scuffs and marks out of it. she doesn't like deformalities, especially when it comes to her personal items.
- in terms of where her loyalties lie , she is ultimately loyal to herself despite her position and rank amongst her fellows. she would never admit it out loud though, and keep to herself about that opinion, but if it came down to her or a few members of her troops, she'd be fine with the sacrifice.
- phasma would probably pretend her baton is a lightsaber on occasion, side training with saber combat on either opponents or training dummies. if she is caught doing so, she would most certainly threaten the life of whoever caught her playing pretend. "you won't tell a soul if you value your life. now get back to work.”
- she probably secretly drinks tea in her quarters as well because she's british and it's natural.
in my humble opinion , she is most certainly , “gaslight , gatekeep , girlboss”.

. .
“Beg." Larissa smirked. "please... please mommy i'll be good I promise." You whimpered.
Larissa giggled, not a single thought behind those big beautiful eyes, nothing other than her.
She lifted her hand, slowly, pushing a sweaty hair from your forehead. "Good girl." Larissa cooed gently, a hint of mockery in her voice.
You turned your head, blushing a deep crimson and clenched your sore thighs together.
She knew what she was doing to you and she loved it, craved it almost. Nothing turned Larissa on more than seeing you all submissive and obedient, like the good girl she knew you to be.
"You can wait a little longer can't you? Can you do that for mommy, my sweet girl?" Larissa asked in fake pity.
Without hesitation, you nodded your head. Larissa smiled, her good girl, all for her.
Larissa turned around and walked over to a full body mirror and sat on a leather chair. " Come here my love." She spoke gently, as she patted her lap.
You hurriedly walked over to Larissa and sat on her lap, excitedly awaiting her next command.
Larissa wrapped her arms around your thighs, spreading them and revealing your glistening core.
"Watch." Larissa whispered, as she licked the shell of your ear. "If you turn away I'll stop, and we'll have to re start, do you understand?" Larissa asked, making eye contact through the mirror.
You nodded your head vigorously, not daring to break contact. "Use your words, darling." She added, as she swatted your left thigh. "Y-yes mommy." You trembled with anticipation.
Your eyes immediately looked down when you feel a bolt of electricity on your clit. A staggered moan erupts from your chest at Larissa's already bruising pace.
"F-faster!" You stammer out chocking on moans.
Larissa smirks as she complies with your request, and adds two fingers. "How does that feel, dear?" Larissa asks teasingly. "Good, so so fucking good." You moaned as Larissa sped up and applied more pressure of your throbbing clit.
Larissa planted small kisses up and down your neck, leaving a fresh trial of hickeys. She raised her other hand, palming your left breast and began rolling your nipple between the pads of her fingers.
"I- I'm going to- to cum!" You shouted as you threw your head back on Larissa's shoulder.
"Not yet darling, I need you to wait a little longer." Larissa mumbled as she went back to attacking your already bruised neck.
"Mommy, please." You begged, feeling the coil in your stomach tighten. "You can do it, my love." Larissa encouraged, not showing any signs of stopping or slowing down.
Loud moans filled Larissa's ears, as you hung on for dear life, doing everything in your power to hold the sweet release you so desperately needed.
"Almost there." She muttered.
Your breaths were ragged as your legs began to shake. Larissa smirked evilly, as she watched your poor already spent body spasm out.
"Cum for me, darling." Larissa said, finally giving in. Your eyes rolled back as your orgasm washed over you. You were on cloud nine as your body shook more violently.
Larissa helped you ride out your orgasm and gently pulled out when you had finally calmed.
Your breathing was heavy and irregular as you were still feeling the aftershocks. Larissa pulled you closer as she help your sweaty body.
"You did so good for mommy, you're such a good girl." She praised as she kissed your sticky forehead. Larissa picked you up and stood from the chair and placed you onto the bed.
She went to the bathroom and returned with a washcloth. Larissa's soft humming was the last sound you heard before you were engulfed by a much needed rest.

Laundry Service (NSFW)
Larissa Weems x Reader
Larissa helps you out.
Author's Note: Short smut (600 words). This was originally about one of my oc's, but I couldn't resist adding the Headmistress in instead.
Tumblr media
You stretched down into the washing machine. You couldn’t believe how hard it was to get to the bottom. You always felt as if you were average height, but as your fingers barely reached the last few socks at the bottom.
When Larissa passed by the laundry room, she had to do a double take at the sight of you bent over into the washing machine. You were in your lazy Sunday clothes - tight leggings that showed off every curve and an oversized sweater that shifted out of place to expose your midriff. Your feet dangled off the ground as you struggled to snatch up all of the little pieces of laundry alluding you at the bottom of the washer.
Larissa couldn’t resist coming up behind you. Her hands slowly moved to grip your waist, giving your body a light squeeze.
At first you jolted in surprise, but you soon realized it was Larissa from the familiarity of her hands on your skin, “Oh, honey! Can you help me?”
“Happy too.” Larissa cooed, curling her fingers around the band of your leggings and underwear.
The shapeshifter was often reserved in her sexual pursuits of you, but that reservation was nowhere to be seen as she dropped to her knees, pulling your pants down with her.
You gasped, hands gripping the edge of the washing machine. Your cheeks flushed red as you exclaimed, “Rissa!”
“I'm helping…” Larissa husked as her hands palmed your ass for a moment before shifting her hands to cup it gently. She used the leverage of her hand placement to spread your thighs to access your cunt.
You sucked in a breath when you felt the shapeshifter plunge her tongue into your cunt.
Larissa was eating you with a starving fervor that had you mewling and humming in response. The rim of the washing machine was digging into your abdomen, but that was feeling like far less of a priority at the moment.
In the few moments Larissa would come up for air from your cunt, she was gasping phrases of adoration - ‘I love you’, ‘You’re perfect’, and ‘You taste incredible’ were repeated over and over.
You couldn’t last long. Between the setting, the dominance, and and the sensation, all of the elements combined in a way that had you gushing on Larissa’s chin.
When the shapeshifter took to sucking on your clit, you had no ability to hold back any longer. You came with a cry, but just because you came didn’t mean the shapeshifter was about to stop.
Larissa lapped at your cum until she was sure she had cleaned you up enough.
When Rissa was satisfied, she pushed herself to stand, pulling your pants back up with her. She wiped her face and with a strong arm around your middle, Larissa pulled you from the washing machine and manhandled you into a position where she could seat you on the dryer.
Larissa then moved away from your dazed form, leaning into the washing machine and yanking out the remaining laundry with a single hand. The shapeshifter tossed the few socks into the nearby laundry basket you had been using before turning her attention back on you, “I hope that helped, darling.”
Larissa turned on her heels, leaving you wide eyed, “Wha- Rissa?”
“If you need anything else, let me know.” Larissa called from the hallway.
“Rissa-“ You called, jumping down from the dryer, cut off by tripping over the basket of damp laundry. You were scrambling as you picked up the laundry from the floor and shoved it in the dryer, continuing to call Larissa’s name as you turned on the dryer and chased your wife down the hall.

The letter
Tumblr media
FLUFF babes, wholesome happy ending kinda fic, but if u know me there’s always a dash of angst thrown in. LOVE CONFESSION!
Words: 1.5-2k
Warnings: non just anxiety.
———
You had to do it, it was killing you not to. There you were hands trembling smoothing down your hair and picking the invisible lint of your black v-neck’s long sleeves, your vision almost blurring due to the nerves. The piece of paper that lay on the dressers surface crumpled and worn already, every night you would reread your words over and over as if trying to memorise a script, it’s been a week since you had written the letter and the only thing to come of it was nightmares of how wrong this could go.
The plan of attack is to go find Larissa, preferably in her office confined in privacy and confess the two years of emotions to her, what will happen next is beyond you. Standing from the edge of your bed and stimming your hands as if to shake away the impending panic attack you pace to the mirror to straighten your silver necklace and fix any possible discrepancies with your simple make up.
Larissa and yourself had a great relationship, well friendship. You enrolled as an art and outcast history teacher two years ago and since then the dynamic between the two of you has been nothing short of amazing and domestic, you would go shopping in Burlington once a month and occasionally go out for dinner every Friday, as well as the random night caps that prolonged for longer then they should leading into the early hours of the morning on a school night.
Larissa had been adverse to opening up for the first six months or so, never really wanting to rely or put her trust into someone who could possibly hurt or cause harm to her feelings, understandably of course, the first personal conversation she really initiated was about previous experiences with friendships and or relationships, mortica and Marilyn being just examples. You though, seemed to understand her on a different level, having shared the same kind of difficulties, ranging from friends to past lovers and many otherwise distasteful people. She caught onto how understanding and empathetic your were, the fact that you listened and heard what she was trying to say, but not in the way other staff would listen, you didn’t show any kind of frightened emotion because of her authority, instead you saw her for her, you saw her as Larissa not principal Weems.
Finally with enough courage mustered, you snatch the letter and exit your quarters making the nerve wracking trek to her office. It’s about 6:30 when you leave, having had time to get changed and prepare after dinner and settle in the meantime. You shoved your phone in the back pocket of your navy jeans and keys in the tiny front pocket, the only sounds emanating within the stone halls are the steps of your flats and the deep inhale and exhales of breath.
Once you arrive the gold plaque with her name displayed, almost mockingly showed your reflection as if to say don’t do it, don’t fuck this. But you did it, you knocked. Larissa sat hunched over her desk and rested her elbows on the mahogany rubbing her temples to release the never ending headache when her door rang with three prominent knocks. “Come in?” Who the hell would be needing something from her no- oh. “Hey.” You said slipping through the doors and gently shutting it. “Oh y/n, how are you sweetheart?” She asked straightening up and closing her laptop.
“I’m ok…” you said quietly eyes flicking about the room as an awkward silence lingered in the air. Larissa was the first to speak again. “Is there something I can help you with?…Or?” She asked tiling her head to try catch your gaze. “Yes-no, I..I don’t know.” You stuttered. Her tense shoulders relaxed a little and her mouth involuntarily twitched into a hopefully helpful smile, even though she was confused. “Sorry I’m just…” you began with a sigh trailing to one of the seats in front of her desk and slumping into it whilst shaking your head. “It’s ok, take your time I’m all ears, you know that.” She spoke clasping her hands gracefully upon the wooden surface.
In the palm of your hand rested the yet again scrunched piece of paper, your thumbs rubbed at the corner of the page with a tremble. For the first time since entering the threshold you looked at her, properly, meeting her glittering cerulean eyes and sweet expression. She was breathtaking as always dressed in one of her finest matching cream coat and skirt suits and white silk blouse, her jewellery glistening to polished perfection and hair meticulously crafted, and to top it off the signature red lipstick you were oh so fond of.
“You look wonderful, are you off somewhere?” She asked in a smooth voice. “Hmm? Oh no.” You muttered letting the silence fall yet again. “I um…” deep breath. “I want to say something, but…I would like it if you could let me at least attempt to finish before you respond, if that’s ok.” You said gulping half way through your sentence. “That’s ok, if it’s something you’ve done I’m sure we can work through it, but I must admit your making me worried darling, you’re never this formal.” She confessed.
Abruptly standing, you turned you back to let your eyes close for a moment before continuing, putting a healthy distance between you both, you shakily unravel the paper and look to her. “You know better than anyone that I like to say and do things face to face right?” You asked as a prompt to actually stop procrastinating. “I do.” She confirmed. “And no matter the circumstances I try to face every single confronting situation.” You continue. “Of course, I try to encourage you to do so…” she trailed never taking her eyes off of you. “Ok.” You whisper.
One last look before the potential disaster you’re about to cause. “Dearest Larissa.” You began reading from the page pausing every couple of moments. “For the past two years… you have been my companion, confidant, wingwoman and best friend.” You say taking another breath. “You have listened, you have learned and tolerated much of me over this time… for that I will be infinitely grateful, just as I am for all the time we have spent together.” Your eyes flitted to her for a fraction of a second to see if she was following, she was, hanging off every word.
“Your trust and faith in me is my motivation to get up in the morning and try to succeed in the job you have generously handed to me, it also gives me a sense of pride that I am the one you choose to trust with your most inner thoughts and feelings, about people, about values, about whatever you wish to share, another thing I’m greatfull for.” You pause again to collect your bearings and hold it together. “You are kind, intelligent, sweet, beautiful and all round incredible in every sense of the word. You have a talent to command a crowd to your will and a gentleness that is rare to just the average person. I’ve never once been disappointed in who you are, not once, because it’s you and anyone who meets you in their lifetime should thank themselves lucky for having that privilege.”
Larissa sat wide eyed with her lips slightly parted in anticipation of hearing the rest. “I think I should finally own up to being the one who leaves the random flowers, sticky notes and occasional hot chocolate when you haven’t the time to get them yourself, not that you should have to, I apologise if it was too invasive and if you wish for me to stop I will do so, I believe that you deserve to have something to brighten up your day with something as simple as those, because you do.” You say starting to feel the tears prick in the corners of your eyes and hands unsteadily grasp the paper.
Resuming in a breaking voice. “On that note you deserve so much, someone’s hand to hold or shoulder to cry or collapse on, an unasked for embrace and a warm bed filled with tender care. You have no idea-.” You cut yourself of by sniffing and wiping the free falling droplets rolling down your cheeks. “No idea how much it pains me to know that you feel unseen, overlooked and unappreciated by others, but you have to know how much I see what you do, I see the sleepless nights behind your eyes and the insults scared on your heart.” You said holding back sobs.
“I know that you don’t-.” You bit your lip suppressing the pain just for a while longer. “That you don’t feel what I do… that my feelings are unrequited, but at this moment I wouldn’t want to spend my time doing anything else then making sure that you know.” Tilting the paper down and raising your eyes to meet hers you spoke again. “How loved you are, how much you are loved by me, and that you will always have someone who is proud of you for everything, and is interested in all the things you have to say.” You lifted to paper back to you frame of vision and read the last part of you letter.
“Because you Larissa are cherished and held in the most sacred part of my soul and have a home in my heart. I love you with every fibre of my being my sweet girl and I hope you don’t ever forget it… yours, y/n y/l/n.” The second you finished the tightnesses in your throat felt like your breathing constricted to only the most minuscule of air. Gasping for it you dropped to your knees and held onto your chest as if it would help in some way.
Larissa’s own tears fell as you pressed on, the second you fell to the floor she sprung into action by coming to your side, she knelt on the ground and placed a hand on your shoulder to signal her presence. You looked up at her and instantly reached for her face with one hand and the other still holding onto your chest. “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, I’m so so sorry Larissa, please, please, please don’t hate me I’m sorry, I ruined everything, I just- I…” you mumbled almost incoherently between gasps, and just like that when you truly saw her through stinging tears you yourself asked her if she was ok.
“Oh, no don’t cry! Please, no you’re ok, you’re ok.” You squeaked using your other hand to remove the mascara streaks down her porcelain skin. Larissa was stunned by the way you selflessly still even at this point managed to be more concerned about her then you own breakdown. Larissa had never in her life time experienced something like this, not a single person has ever expressed such concern and care towards her and she doesn’t know how to react. She knows that this isn’t the first time you have told someone you like them, but she also knows you have never told someone you love them, let alone that being her.
“I can go, I’ll- I’ll go and I’ll leave you be, ok? You can forget this ever happened alright?” You said sitting back on your thighs to reach the dropped letter, but Larissa stopped you by grasping your wrist and making you look at her. “Stop. Just stop… you’ll stay.” She said in a groggy tone. “But-.” “No.” She cut in. Coming back full force your body wreaked with more uncontrollable sobs. Larissa guided you into her arms and let you be broken just for a moment to release your pent up adrenaline. She held you and rocked you until you calmed and slowed with the pouring apology’s. Gently she tried to coax you out of your state by quietly shushing and running her palm over the crown of your head to the nape of your neck over and over.
Neither of you knew how long it was that you sat wrapped together, but when it felt right Larissa pulled back and cupped your face in her hand and peered into your swollen and puffy eyes. “Thank you.” She breathed. You stared back at her almost emotionless drained of any and all energy, you were confused as to why she chose to thank instead of ask you to leave in disgust. “I’m sorry that I did this.” You started. “But I’m not sorry that I fell in love with you.” You said picking at the skin around your nails. “Nor am I.” She replied. The crease in your brows deepened at her words.
Slowly Larissa lent her forehead against your own and breathed deeply. “What did I do to be graced with you?.” She whispered. “I’m the one who should be proud of you darling, you said it. You said what I’ve wished to say for a long time, and… I know that must have been very difficult to say, but I’m glad you did.” She said. Your eyes fluttered close to just enjoy this small moment. “Look at you comforting others with the words you wish to hear, y/n…” she retracted just a little. “You are the one who is loved by me. I’m just not as brave as you to say it, but I am now and I don’t know what this means, but I see how much love you have to give, I feel it when ever your around… you told me once you believe that you were only meant to give love and not receive it, but if you will let me, I want to give mine to you.” She smiled.
This isn’t how you pictured this to go, not in the slightest, but who could ever complain. You peered into her eyes so intensely to make sure there was no underlying malice or false intention, but you didn’t find an ounce. You took ahold of Larissa’s right hand and opened her fingertips to lay a palm on your chest. “Rissa…” you started, not being able to find the right words. “I know.” She said pulling her hand with yours on top and cupping your cheek, you leaned into her touch just to relish in her warmth. More tears fell down your cheeks burning from following the same tracks as previous ones. “I’m so tired.” You hummed. “I know.”
Larissa removed her heels tossing them aside before shifting herself to a grounding position on her knees. She held the back of your calves and wrapped them around her waist and moved your arms to brace around her neck. You caught on to what she was doing and almost resisted not wanting her to hurt herself by your weight, instead she leaned back putting one arm around your waist and one under your ass holding you to her as she stood. Larissa guided yourselves through to her quarters adjacent of her office and without letting you go she knelt on the bed and laid down without disturbing the position.
That bed, the same luxurious place the two of you shared so many memories in, watching movies, bickering, watching her remove her make up in the vanity’s reflection, the same place she perched her head in your lap to brush out her hair and loosely braid for her to sleep in. This was the place you knew you loved her, you saw Larissa for everything she was and only you have had the privilege of knowing who and what she really is.
Your head moved from the crook of her neck to the same pillow she occupied and breathed her in, you moved one of your arms to the little space between you and used you fingertip to trace over her face, her cheeks, nose, eyes and lips, Larissa felt peace, she felt whole like a missing part of her returned, she always felt that way when you were around, even the times she would walk past your classroom and though she couldn’t see you her stomach would erupt in butterflies knowing you were close.
“I love you y/n.” She whispered. Your gaze turned upward to her eyes and you smiled, a genuine smile that only she could bring to your face. “I love you more.” You replied. “Larissa?” You asked after a moment’s hesitation. “Mmm?” She hummed. “Would it be selfish of me to ask if I could kiss you…” you said hoping for a yes, but if she still has boundaries-. Larissa didn’t even respond, within two seconds of finishing your question she kissed you, gently but passionately, she swallowed every breath of yours and you hers.
After a while your limbs were together intertwined, soft breaths as well as shuddering ones from the after effects of crying and shy strokings from nimble fingers were what made the pain from many prior months seem to wither away. Larissa and yourself had moved off the bed to change into something to sleep in, she wouldn’t let you leave and for that you were happy because you didn’t want to.
You rested in her clothes in her bed under the sheets curled to her side as she rested against the headboard, eyes fluttering from exhaustion. Larissa played with your hair tracing the shell of your ear before reaching to her bedside table pulling out the small notebook from the draw, she rested it in her lap and opened it flipping through the first couple of pages and she began to read aloud.
“Tuesday 11th. Something wonderful happened today, something I didn’t think I was akin to anymore. It seems I have fallen into love with my best friend, I know history repeating itself, but this is far different to a teenage obsession, I love this woman, I love her far greater than anything else in this world, however I’m afraid she will never know. But I’ve waited this long to feel something like this again I’m ok with it staying like this, for now at least.” She said not stopping her ministrations the whole time of reading.
You looked up at her while she read with a twinkle in your eyes and a sleepy smile plastered to your face. Larissa tore out the page and rested it and the notebook on the table and told you to keep it if she can keep yours, she shuffled down and wrapped herself around you and together you both fell into a blissful sleep. This was the first night of many more to come, your last thought was finally, and hers was exactly the same.

You sat in your little office at the news station of Jericho, finger hovering over the mouse of your computer. You were hesitating. The cursor sat neatly atop the ‘send’ button, ready to send your email to its recipient. But you hesitated. Why? You didn’t know.
It’s true that it was frowned upon to interact with the outcasts, but you just couldn’t believe that they were as terrible as everyone said they were. You have seen them plenty of times strolling through the little city, shopping and stopping by the Weathervane for a drink. None of them ever seemed malicious or evil to you. With a deep inhale, you pressed send and quickly shut your computer off. There's no going back now.
The next day at the office, you were surprised to find that the Headmistress of Nevermore Academy, Larissa Weems, has replied. With a nervous breath, you opened the email:
Dear Miss Y/l/n,
I am pleasantly surprised about learning of your interest in outcasts, my students and the school in general. There are, however, a few things I would like to clarify first.
Now, if I understood correctly, you wish to catch a glimpse into the life of an outcast to then create a report about our differences and similarities with non-outcasts?
Because of the nature of this request, I have to let you know that I will not tolerate any sort of mockery or bad-mouthing of my students or my school.
You will have to follow our rules, outcast or not.
I won’t allow you to follow one of my students around, as this would pose a serious safety hazard for my students and yourself.
However, you are very welcome to settle yourself into my office and follow me around for however many days you deem necessary.
If this is alright with you, I would be willing to meet you coming Monday at the Weathervane and take you to the Academy.
Sincerely,
Larissa Weems
You released the breath you were holding and smiled to yourself. You replied to Miss Weems, agreeing to her terms and wishing her a wonderful weekend.
The following two hours consisted of preparing everything you needed for your report: a few notepads and notebooks, your laptop, a tablet, your camera and some pens. You couldn't help but feel nervous at the prospect of having the opportunity to report about the outcasts. This was not a subject anyone had ever really done research on, and you were adamant to figure out why everyone seemed so fearful of a bunch of teenagers in a school in the woods.
Over the weekend, you exchanged a few more emails with the Principal, clearing up any last logistical problems you’ve had.
You asked if you were allowed to stay for a week, to which she replied that it would be no problem if you agreed to stay in one of the empty studios that were meant for teachers at Nevermore.
Of course, you agreed.
Monday rolled around, and you were standing in front of the Weathervane, waiting for the Principal of Nevermore to pick you up. You have heard descriptions of her, and you knew she frequented the little Café a lot, yet you have never seen her in person before. Absentmindedly, you sipped on your hot chocolate, typing something on your phone, when suddenly:
“Miss Y/l/n I presume?” A soft voice with a wonderful British accent sounded from beside you. You turned your head to be met with a beige coat. Having to look up you finally made eye contact with the woman whose beautiful voice ripped you out of your thoughts.
You smiled up at her, nervousness flooding your chest as you took in the beauty of the woman in front of you.
“Principal Weems. It’s a pleasure to meet you!” you said quietly, nerves completely taking over your logical mind and body. You reached your hand out to shake hers. She took her beige glove off, and took your hand in hers. Her hand was soft, warm and wrapped perfectly around yours. Perfectly manicured red nails decorated her pale skin.
“Likewise!” She smiled down at you and removed her hand, putting her glove on again, and you immediately missed the feeling of her hand on yours.
“Are you ready for us to leave, Miss Y/l/n?”
“Oh… yes, of course!” You grabbed your bag with your equipment and personal items and followed her to her car. You set your luggage in the boot and sat in the passenger seat. Larissa sat in the driver's seat and started driving towards the Academy. After some silence, you spoke up again.
“Thank you so much for letting me stay at the Academy for a week.” Larissa smiled to herself and quickly glanced over at you before eyeing the road again.
“I should thank you. My students usually don’t get this sort of… exposure to the outside world. We are used to people avoiding us because of… fear or discrimination… whatever you want to call it.” Her tone shifted to a quieter and more serious one, her hands gripping the steering wheel just a little tighter. You sensed a shift in energy and gave her a reassuring smile.
“I believe everyone deserves a chance to be understood and seen.” You replied, and that seemed to relax the headmistress. She shot you a thankful smile, then focused back on the road, the rest of the ride being spent in comfortable silence.
Once at Nevermore, Larissa showed you around the grounds, having one of the teachers carry your possessions to the on-campus studio flat, which will be your new home for the following week.
Roaming the halls, it didn’t seem much different than a school for regular humans (besides it being incredibly fancy, of course) and you found that the students seemed like sweet kids. Truly, you couldn’t understand how there was so much hatred and fear surrounding these kids.
Larissa led you to her office, offering you a separate desk to work on. You set your laptop bag on the desk and turned to look at the headmistress, who was standing next to her desk.
“Now, Miss Y/l/n, you are free to follow me around the Academy whenever you want, but I trust you understand why I wouldn’t want you roaming the halls on your own.” She looked at you with a raised eyebrow.
“Of course, Miss Weems!” you reassured her quickly. “I understand how important it is for you to protect these kids… but I can assure you there are no ill intentions by me being here! After what I’ve seen thus far, I cannot believe why anyone would be fearful of outcasts. This is why I’m here. I don’t believe that these kids are as dangerous as everyone in Jericho, let alone the rest of the world, believes them to be.” You looked at her, and there was a slight shift of emotion on her face. Hope? Distrust? Surprise? You didn't know. After a few seconds of silence, the headmistress spoke up again.
“Very well,” she said, grinning at you with her million-dollar-winning smile. “If you ever feel like you would like to see more of the school or learn about its history, don’t be afraid to ask.” Her smile softened slightly. She seemed very fond of her students and her Academy. It truly warmed your heart, and you couldn't help but blush slightly. With a slight nod, you thanked her and sat down, getting your things ready to start your research.
Every now and then throughout the morning, you caught yourself glancing over at the tall woman. She sat in perfect posture, working on her laptop and typing away on some emails or documents. You didn’t realise how long you had been staring at her. The way her eyes flicked over the screen and the way she swiftly moved her fingers over the keyboard had you in a trance-like state. Her perfectly painted red lip curled up on the side, and she raised one of her eyebrows.
“Has no one taught you that staring is rude?” Her eyes flicked over to yours, and you quickly averted your eyes back on your own screen, mumbling a quiet ‘sorry’ her way. Your face felt hot, and you knew you were blushing, hard. Larissa chuckled and shook her head a bit in amusement. She stopped her typing and leaned back against the seat, turning to look at you, studying you as if she were… considering you. Shyly, you moved your gaze back to her.
“Would you like to have a look at one of the classes? Our subjects can vary drastically from the ones in your schools.” she smiled at you and tilted her head slightly.
“I-I would appreciate that, yes.” You answered, nodding, and quickly moved to grab your notepad and pen. When you looked back up, Larissa was already standing and walking towards the door of her office, only stopping to wait for you to catch up.
This morning, the headmistress took you to several classes, telling you about all the different subjects they have. You eagerly took notes, asking questions and listening intently to subjects you’d never heard of. Magic, transformation, siren song, etc. You were fascinated, and that didn’t get lost on Larissa. The longer she watched you, the more fond she grew of you. Your interest and amazement made her heart swell with pride for her school and her students. Even though she was rather careful of what to show you, she felt that this might be the biggest step ever made for outcasts to be accepted into everyday normie lives.
The day went by way faster than you would have wished for it. You have learned so much and were eager to learn even more. Larissa had taken her time explaining their school system to you and while you saw drastic differences, it still didn’t feel too out of the norm. There was one particular student that caught your eye. A rebel, you thought, someone who likes to prank and go against the rules. Those exist in every school, of course, but this girl seemed different. She did it with such nonchalance and elegance that it was almost invisible to the untrained eye.
After asking the headmistress, she told you about the student. Not much, just enough to answer your questions. Larissa seemed tense so you decided to change the subject, asking her about her own time at the school, and from then on the two of you got completely lost in conversation. Hours passed, and you shared your school experiences and collectively decided that they weren't all too different. With a heavy sigh, you leaned against the couch and watched Larissa refill yours and her wine glass.
“I have to be honest, even after just one day I have seen enough to tell you that this,” you waved your hand around, “is definitely nothing to be afraid or weary of. I mean… I always knew that the other… “normies”... are being way too sensitive when it comes to this place and its students but seeing it for myself… I simply can’t understand why there's so much hate and fear towards these poor students.” You sighed and took a sip of wine. “I mean… they're just kids aren't they?” You glanced up at the headmistress to see her smiling at you softly, humming in agreement.
“I have to be honest, Miss Y/l/n-”
“Y/n! You can call me Y/n if you want to,” you interrupted her with a smile, looking back into your glass as you felt your face blush.
“Y/n… I am surprised and… relieved.” She smiled sweetly at you then looked into the fireplace, a sad expression crossing her face. “I wish more people could see the kids for who they are instead of for what they are.” A sigh left her lips and she took a sip of wine. “It’s not easy being… different… an outcast. You can try all you want, there will always be a hint of fear and doubt in non-outcasts.” She turned to look at you, her icy blues piercing yours. “Are you afraid, Y/n?” she asked, quietly, almost inaudible, but you caught the slight shiver in her voice. It broke your heart to see her like this. You didn’t really know that woman except for what she was willing to tell you, but you knew, without a doubt, that she was the most precious being on the entire planet, and you would move planets just to see her at peace. Without really thinking about it, you set your glass down and moved to hold one of her hands.
“Miss Weems… Larissa… if I may?” you started, gently, and she nodded at you, “I do not claim to know what you and your students have to go through, day by day. Being villainized, misunderstood and what not. But what I do know is that I want to help you make a difference. The kids are nothing but kids… Powers and mutations aside… No matter how different you may seem from me, you are still a person. You don’t deserve to be treated like they treat you… all of you.” You smiled at her with a caring expression on your face and gently squeezed her hand. Larissa looked at you, eyes trained on your face, searching for lies, but she couldn't find any. She inhaled shakily and took a big sip of her wine then squeezed your hands back.
“Thank you,” was all she replied. You didn’t need more. You knew she meant it. You felt it. With a last gentle squeeze, you let go of her hand, grabbing your glass again.
“To my… to our project!” you smirked and raised your glass to her. She chuckled and shook her head slightly, looking back at you endearingly and raised her glass as well.
“To our project.”
As the week went on, Larissa and you started to develop a little routine. You would meet her in the morning to go to the Weathervane and get some breakfast to-go, spend the morning in her office or with a teacher of her choice (mostly Marilyn Thornhill), have lunch with her and the teachers, writing and researching in Larissas office, a dinner with staff and at the end of the day, a glass (or sometimes a bottle) of her favourite wine on the couch in front of the fireplace. Being around Larissa was incredibly easy. You loved talking to her, listening to her, discussing topics other than schools and outcasts. You felt safe, comfortable… you felt at home. And you weren’t the only one who felt this way. Larissa would catch herself, more than she’d like to admit, looking at you, watching you with adoration as you wrote and researched. She liked you. It wasn't a secret. She loved being around you and was looking forward to the evenings at the fireplace. A refreshing difference she desperately needed. Larissa had grown very fond of you, and she hoped you felt the same.
When Friday evening rolled around you were already sitting on the couch in Larissa’s office, waiting for her to come back with the wine as it suddenly hit you. It was already Friday… you’ll be leaving again on Monday. You’ll have to go back to your office and finish the report. Would you be able to see her again? Could you stay in contact? Larissa entered, placing the bottle and glasses on the table then saw the light crease between your brows as you stared into the flames of the fireplace, obviously deep in thought.
“Y/n?” she asked softly, and laid her hand on your shoulder, and you snapped your head towards her, not having heard her appear next to you. “Are you alright dear?”
“Yeah!..yeah.” You smiled up at her, watching her sit down next to you and opening the wine bottle. “I’ve just realised that it’s already Friday… The week really went by in a flash, huh?” You took the wineglass she held out to you and looked at it, swishing the red liquid around absent-mindedly. Larissa’s heart constricted seeing you like this.
“It did! But… as upsetting as it is, I am glad to see that you enjoyed your week here!” She took a sip of her wine and watched you closely. “That being said, seeing how my students seemed to like you being around,” and I, she thought, “you are more than welcome to return whenever you feel like it.” She watched you closely, seeing your eyes light up made her feel warm and content.
“I would love that Larissa. Thank you! And you are always welcome at the news station. I’ll make sure the others behave, don't worry.” you giggled and winked at her which pulled a small laugh from her lips and she shook her head amusedly. “I mean it!” You smiled as you snuggled into the couch and took a sip of wine, humming as the liquid hit your tongue, “If any of your students ever wants to know more about journalism or is interested in it, let me know. Matter of fact…” you sat up and straightened your back, holding your hand out to the blonde, “give me your phone I’ll give you my number so you can just let me know in case there is something.”
Larissa hesitated. She looked at your hand for a second, then smiled shyly and grabbed her phone, unlocking it and handing it to you to type in your number. She watched fondly as you typed your number in her phone. A slight tingle spread from her chest over her body as she took her phone back after you’ve saved your number.
“Thank you!” she said quietly, “I- really do appreciate it… everything you do. For us. Me and the students.” A soft pink colour kissed her cheeks and she gave you a truly heartfelt smile. You smiled back at her, butterflies spreading through your whole body. Her smile was the most beautiful thing you have ever seen. You knew right there, she had you wrapped around her finger. You have fallen.
You were able to finish your report on the last day of your stay in Nevermore, handing it in to be reviewed by your boss so it could be printed and released asap. With a heavy sigh, you leaned back into the chair, stretching your arms and back. Larissa smiled over at you and set her paperwork aside.
“I take it you’ve just handed in your story to be reviewed?” she asked with a gentle smile. Her eyes held a hint of sadness at the realisation that her office would be empty once again. You smiled over at her and nodded gently.
“Yes! Just handed it in! If everything goes well, you’ll be able to read it on Tuesday! And Larissa… thank you again… for everything!”
The blonde stood up, walking over to your side, and placed her hand on your shoulder, squeezing it gently.
“I should thank you. This… means way more to us than you could ever imagine!” Her smile was warm, eyes soft. You felt a shudder rush down your spine as you realised that you haven’t seen her this soft with anyone but you. All of this vulnerable affection was only directed towards you, only to be seen by your eyes.
You wanted to tell her… tell her that you like her. Tell her that she is the most beautiful woman you’ve ever had the pleasure to lay your eyes on. Just as you were about to open your mouth, she pulled away.
“If you want to, I can drive you back. I could drop you off at the Weathervane or.. At your place, if you prefer?” Larissa spoke, closing her laptop and putting her paperwork into a drawer. The headmistress didn’t want you to go, but she knew that if she would let you stay longer, she wouldn't be able to hold herself back. Certainly you wouldn’t feel the same… right?
“That.. that would be nice! Thank you!” you replied, feeling defeated. Maybe it was better to keep your feelings to yourself. Who knows, maybe she wasn’t interested in women.. Or simply normies. You took a deep breath, collecting your things and going to your room to pack the last few things. When you returned to the headmistress’ office, she was already waiting for you.
The drive back to Jericho was rather quiet. Neither of you knew what to say to the other. You wanted to tell her everything, pour your heart out to her and so did she, but you stayed quiet. Once you arrived at your Flat Complex, Larissa turned to you.
“It was really nice having you at Nevermore. Again, thank you for doing this for us. And… If you should ever want to come and visit, you are more than welcome to do so! I am sure the Students would love to see you again sometime.” and herself… but she didn't say that.  You gave her a genuine smile, nodding slightly.
“I enjoyed my week there! You truly have wonderful students. And, I mean, you have my number so… if you or any of the kids should ever need something, just feel free to contact me!” You hoped she would contact you, but only time could tell.
It has been a month since you’ve last heard from Larissa. Your article got approved, and she complimented you on it, thanking you again profusely. That was the last, and only, time you’ve heard of her after staying at Nevermore. Sure, she was a busy woman, but you couldn’t help but feel upset. And you wouldn’t text her first, no. The anxiety that arose in you every time you tried to do so was enough to completely freeze you. So when you walked into the Weathervane on a Thursday morning to grab a coffee, you were more than delighted to see her there, quickly walking up to her.
“Good morning, Principal Weems” you said softly, watching her turn around and seeing her eyes light up as she saw you.
“Good morning Y/N!” she replied with a smile. That darn beautiful smile of hers. “Are you also here to grab some breakfast before work?” she asked, turning fully to you, all herattention focused on you, your face, those eyes she came to admire over the time you’ve spent at her school.
“I am but.. Uhm… if you’re not in a hurry, would you like to have breakfast with me?” you did it, you asked her. The second the question left your lips, you felt your cheeks heat up. Larissa looked at you with adoration and nodded.
“I would love to, actually!” She smiled and tilted her head slightly. She noticed your blush and couldn’t help but feel giddy about it. Was she the reason you blushed?
“Wonderful! What do you want? It’s my treat!” You smile, feeling a bit more confident now, seeing her soft and happy gaze directed only at you.
“Oh, you really don’t have to-”
“But I want to!”
Larissa sighed, shaking her head slightly with a grin, and chuckled at how adamant you were.
“Fine. Next time, it’s my treat!” She gave you her order and went to sit at a booth, waiting for you to join her. You couldn’t believe your ears. Next time? There will be a next time? The smile that spread on your lips could only be described as the smile of a happy fool. Truly, you were a fool. A fool for her.
After you’ve ordered and paid for your coffees and pastries, you made your way over to her, slipping into the booth.
“So… how have you been? How have the kids been?” you asked, trying to make small talk. You felt so awkward, but that feeling quickly washed away as you saw Larissa’s soft smile.
“Very well! Your report had quite the impact on how people from Jericho treat my students. I just wanted to thank you again. The effect this has had on our lives is way greater than I could have hoped for. The article… your words… truly left an impact.” She reached her hand out, grabbing yours and squeezing it lightly.
“Thank you!”
Your smile grew tenfold, and you squeezed her hand back.
“I am so happy to hear that this has worked out so well for you and your students.” You shyly pulled your hand back and thanked the waiter when he placed your drinks and pastries in front of you.
“How have you been y/n?” Larissa asked. She was looking at you… into you… into your soul with those beautiful ice-y blue eyes. You felt your cheeks heat up and grabbed your cup as well, trying to ground yourself.
“I’ve been well! The Article has caught a lot of attention, so I’ve been rather busy lately…” You smiled at her and took a sip as she watched.
“Though I do have to say, I miss being around the kids…” and around you, you thought to yourself. The blonde eyed you over her coffee mug and smiled sweetly.
“In that case, would you like to come to the Rave’N this weekend?” She did it… she asked you. Her heart was beating like crazy but seeing the light blush covering your face she couldn't help but feel proud of herself.
“The Rave’N? Really?” You asked, not believing your ears. Larissa nodded and tilted her head.
“Yes really! Our theme this year is ‘Climate crisis meets extinction effect’ and the dress code is white.” She took a bite of her pastry and smiled at you. You thought for a second. You didn’t have any white outfits, so you’d definitely have to buy one, but you’d be damned if you wouldn’t agree to her invitation.
“In that case, I’d love to!” The smile you gave her made Larissa’s heart melt. How were you so precious? She nodded slightly.
“I’ll have Marilyn pick you up here at around 5:30pm on Saturday. The students will be excited to see you again!” She finished her coffee and snack and stood up.
“I’d love to stay longer, but I have to get back to Nevermore… I’ll see you this Saturday, dear.” and with that, she left your flustered self in the Weathervane.
Shopping for an appropriate but also impressive garment was not easy. You currently had 2 dresses in front of you and couldn’t decide which one to pick. One was made of silk and rather simple but had an extravagant high slit up your right thigh and a very low back, whereas the other covered more of your back and arms but was a bit shorter with a princess gown puff skirt. You sighed and decided to put them on again, took a picture of you wearing them and sent them to Marilyn. You and her had gotten rather close during the week you spent at Nevermore, and you’d kept contact even afterwards. She was such a sweetheart, but she was also a pain in the ass as she has been nagging you about your outfit all afternoon already.
It didn’t take long for you to be flooded with messages of Marilyn going crazy over the silk dress.
Marilyn:
“Oh, you SO have to get the silky one! Larissa won’t be able to keep her eyes off of you”
Y/N:
“What do you mean? Why would you say that?”
Marilyn:
“Oh come ooooon… It is SOOOOOOO obvious that you have the hots for her… just pick the silk one.”
You were sure Marilyn would laugh at you if she could see you right now. Your face was bright red because you’d been found out. Was it really that obvious? Did Larissa know? Was that why she invited you? Could she... no. No, that probably wasn’t the case... Just wishful thinking. With a sigh you looked back on your phone.
Y/N:
“Fine. I’ll get the silk one. But just because you picked it 😛”
You got dressed again and went to buy the garment.
Once back at home, you took your time to look for hair and makeup inspiration to complete your look and be ready for Saturday. Marilyn and you had been texting back and forth all day, and she’d helped you pick the perfect hairstyle and makeup for the Rave’N.
You were nervous… of course you were, but there was this little glimmer of hope starting to take hold within you. Maybe Larissa really did like you.
You were waiting in front of the Weathervane for Marilyn to come and pick you up.
Were you nervous? Absolutely!
Were you excited? Definitely!
But you couldn’t help and worry… worry about… you were actually not sure. Your nerves were getting the better of you and there was nothing that could be done against it. Not that you haven’t tried… you definitely did! You went through every trick in the book.
Breathing exercise? No effect.
Meditation? Nothing.
A tea? That just made you worried that you would spill it on your dress, so that wasn’t helping at all.
So you just stood there… waiting.
“Hey! You good?” you suddenly heard someone call out to you and released a sigh.
“Marilyn! Hey!” You smiled at your friend and got into the car, leaning over to give her a hug.
“Not really… my nerves are taking over right now.” You groaned.
“You’re just making yourself crazy over nothing! Relax! You’ll be fine!” she smirked and turned her gaze back onto the road, starting towards Nevermore.
“You look amazing by the way!”
You chuckled and looked out of the window. You did look nice… it also took you forever to get ready. You had braided some hair along the sides of your head and pulled everything up into a fluffy space bun, which you decorated with some crystal pins. Your makeup was soft, in nude colours, with a soft peach lip and some sparkly eyeshadow on your eyelids. The dress fit perfectly and hugged every curve of your body, and you had found the perfect off-white heels in your closet.
“Thank you! Wouldn’t have managed to pull this off without you!” You smile and look over at the redhead. Marilyn was grinning to herself.
“If you two hook up, I deserve to be invited to dinner by you!” Your shocked gasp caused her to laugh out loud.
“Oh come on! I know you want her… and to be quite honest…” She raised an eyebrow and glanced over at you with a mischievous smirk. “I think the feelings are mutual.”
The blush that spread on your face was all Marilyn needed to know she was right.
“You’ll see! She’ll be absolutely smitten with you looking like this.”
“We’ll see…” you reply, watching the scenery outside.
Marilyn parked the car and ran around to open the door for you with a dramatic bow.
“M’lady.” she chuckled, and you rolled your eyes amusedly as you got out of the car.
“You’re an idiot!”
The teacher smirked and moved to hold her arm out for you to hold. She led you into the building and guided you towards the great hall.
You weren’t expecting to be swarmed by students the second you entered the ballroom.
“Hi Y/N! What are you doing here?”
“You look gorgeous! Who invited you?”
“It’s so nice you’re back! Come! Let's go dance!”
“Do you want something to drink? I’ll get you some punch!”
You were being surrounded and swarmed by the students, and it warmed your heart to see how excited they were by your presence. Marilyn slipped away from you without you noticing, the second she realised someone was walking up to the newly formed commotion around your presence. You struggled answering all of their questions when suddenly you felt a hand on your shoulder and the students grew quiet.
“Now, now… dear y/n has just arrived, don’t crowd her like that. You’ll have enough time to have a chat with her tonight.” The smooth British voice echoed from behind you and a pleasant shudder ran down your spine. The students nodded and went back to their friends on the dance floor. You turned around to look up at the principal.
Larissa couldn’t help but let her eyes roam over your figure. The dress you chose was absolutely exquisite, your makeup complimenting the simplicity of the outfit and your hair that just looked too soft. Vulgar thoughts flooding her mind as she finally caught your eyes. You were looking up at her with big doe eyes, so innocent and sweet.
“Come in! Want something to drink?” she asked as she gently took your arm and led you into the ballroom. You couldn’t believe your eyes. Larissa looked… She was a goddess. Her hair was up like always but decorated with some intricate curls, her usual red lipstick a wonderful contrast to the silver dress she was wearing. Looking up at her, you saw her eyes scanning you, your heart skipping a beat. Her pupils dilated as she finally landed on your eyes, and you had to suppress a whimper. This woman will be the death of you. It took you a few seconds to register her question and notice her arm intertwined with yours.
“I- yes… please!” you answered quietly, not being able to suppress the grin gracing your lips.
Larissa handed you a glass of punch and took one herself. You stood at the edge of the dance floor with her, watching the kids having fun.
You really wanted to dance with her, but didn’t know how to ask. Should you ask? What if she said no? What if she thought you were weird, and she only wanted to invite you for the kids’ sake? But… What if she said yes? What then? You didn’t know how to dance. Sure, you have visited your fair share of parties, but you didn’t think you were a good dancer. And what if you started dancing, and you didn’t do it right, and she would start laughing and-
“What's going on in that head of yours, darling?” Larissa’s soft voice pulled you out of your thoughts. You looked up at her just to catch her already looking at you. Her eyes were soft, a hint of concern shimmering in them. She looked so… soft. You just wanted to pull her into an embrace, a kiss, soft and full of affection. Taking a breath in, you set your glass on a table then held your hand out to her.
“Would you like to dance, Larissa?” you asked, heart hammering in your chest as you saw her eyes widen ever so slightly in surprise. A sweet pink hue coloured her cheeks as she blinked at you a few times, registering what you just asked her. Larissa quickly placed her glass on the table next to yours and moved to put her hand into yours, looking up at you with a shy smile, nodding.
“I would love to!” she said quietly, almost above a whisper. The bright smile that appeared on her face was enough to get her heart racing and head spinning. Your eyes were practically sparkling with glee, and it made her feel so fuzzy and warm inside. To have such happiness and excitement directed towards her was a privilege she’s never experienced before. You giddily pulled her onto the dance floor, not believing your luck.
Marilyn was watching from the corner, watching as you pulled Larissa onto the dance floor. She smirked at the two of you, but something felt weird… the music!
A mischievous smirk graced her features as she waddled off to the DJ and asked him to play a slow and romantic song. The second the music changed, you and Larissa shot a look over at the DJ, seeing Marilyn standing there, innocently waving at the two of you. Oh, you were so going to get revenge on her for that. Your anxiety started kicking in again, but before you could start overthinking it you felt warm hands on your waist. Larissa was pulling you closer, and she just hoped you wouldn’t pull away.
“Is this okay?” Her piercing blue orbs held steady eye contact with you, and you felt your face heat up. With a nod, you move to place your arms on her shoulders, hands close to her neck. She smiled and started swaying with you to the rhythm of the song. Seeing you so shy and flustered by her gave her the necessary courage to take a step closer. She leaned her head down to your ear, causing a shiver to run down your spine.
“You look absolutely delectable tonight, my dear. Have you picked this outfit just for me?” Her hot breath on your skin caused you to bite your lip. You nodded.
“I was hoping you’d like it.” You replied quietly. Larissa tightened her grip on you, squeezing your waist gently, which caused a gasp to leave your lips.
“Dressing up nicely just for me?” She husked, feeling herself getting more confident. Emboldened by the way your body… you reacted to her.
“You’re such a good girl!” You could hear the smirk in her voice. Closing your eyes, you took a deep breath, trying to steady yourself.
“It’s a shame this dress will be laying somewhere scattered in my quarters after this ball is over.”
You tightened your grip on her shoulders, pulling her closer. Your heart felt like it was beating out of your chest. The tension was high, atmosphere thick with desire. You felt your knees tremble, ready to take whatever she was willing to give you. You pulled your head back a bit, just enough to look into her eyes, and what you saw almost made you whimper with anticipation. Her usually so pale blue eyes were dark, lustrous, her breathing heavier than usual and her lips were slightly parted.
Before either of you could say or do anything, you felt something drip on your cheek. Confusedly, you blinked a few times, and Larissa eyed your cheek in concern.
The drips quickly multiplied, and soon you were showered in, what you believed to be, blood. Your eyes widened as you looked around, unable to move. Everything was getting soaked with this red liquid. What was happening?
Larissa was the first to move. She pulled away from you but grabbed your hand and quickly led you outside, the other staff helping the kids get out of the ballroom as well. Some fled into the courtyard and some into the school halls. There was a big commotion amongst the students, and you and Larissa immediately sprang into action, trying to calm the scared kids. Marilyn came running with a pile of blankets and towels to wrap around the sopping pupils.
Whatever had happened, it was clearly meant as an attack of sorts. You were fuming.  Even after all the positive feedback you got for your report, there were still some bad apples in the normie bunch. If you ever caught who did that, they would surely regret pulling a stunt like that.
After the, you now knew it to be, red dyed water attack, you helped Larissa, Marilyn and the other employees to bring the kids inside and to their dorm rooms. After the last student was brought to their room, you stood in the foyer, watching Larissa talk to the Sheriff. You could tell she was agitated… mad. But yet she kept her composure, talked calmly and was respectful. A light bump against your shoulder alerted you to the presence of your friend.
“Hey… thanks for your help! You really didn’t have to, you know?” Marilyn smiled defeatedly at you, and you returned the smile.
“It’s okay! I really didn’t mind… Just wished that this wouldn’t have happened… it’s not like they already have it hard enough and now that… I was really hoping that my report had a bigger impact but-”
“Don’t say that!” Marilyn interrupted, “Your article was eye-opening for so many people in town! It definitely helped! Big time! There’s just always gonna be a few assholes trying to ruin everything again.” She was clearly frustrated as well. You looked at her and chuckled, then shook your head.
“I guess you’re right..” You sighed and rubbed the back of your neck. The two of you stood in silence for a while until Marilyn noticed you watching Larissa again and smirked.
“Such a shame the two of you got interrupted! It almost seemed as if you were about to kiss.” She teased and your, admittedly already red, face started blushing furiously. You hit her arm lightly.
“Stop teasing!” You hissed, but Marilyn just laughed and nudged you again.
“What are we laughing about?” You both turned your head towards the voice and saw the headmistress standing in front of you. One perfectly sculpted eyebrow raised in curiosity. Marilyn just chuckled and smirked at you, then at Larissa.
“Oh nothing important…” She took a deep breath and then clapped her hands together, “Well… I’ll be off… gotta get that red dye out of my hair somehow. Bye bye.” She waved at the two of you, leaving you alone with Larissa once more. She really had the audacity to leave you in situations like these every single time she had the opportunity to. You sighed and pinched the bridge of your nose. Larissa watched Marilyn in confusion, then turned to you.
“Y/N… thank you for helping out with the students! I- am so sorry you had to experience this…” She sounded… sad, upset, worried? You looked up at her and saw her looking at you.
“It’s quite alright! I’m just sad they had to experience that! It’s not fair… they’re good kids and I just don't get why anyone would want to harm them in any way…” You gave her a sad smile, then shyly reached out and grabbed her hand to squeeze it lightly.
“But I did really enjoy dancing with you, Larissa…” she smiled back at you and squeezed your hand back.
“As did I… uhm… would you like to come back to my quarters and get that paint washed off? Maybe have a glass of wine?” She was nervous. She was nervous and you could tell. The way her hand lightly trembled, and her eyes darted away from yours while asking. It filled your heart with that fuzzy warm feeling. You nodded and stepped to the side, still holding her hand.
“Lead the way!”
In Larissa’s quarters, she quickly went into the bathroom, returning with a damp cloth and some makeup wipes in the hopes of getting the dye off your skin and hair. You managed to wipe the paint off your face without any issues, but it really stuck to your hair. Larissa went to quickly shower off the paint, and you couldn't help but think about her in the shower. Water streaming down that smooth alabaster skin. You wished you could have joined her.
As Larissa got out of the shower, your breath got stuck in your throat. Her damp hair framed her face in gentle curls. She wasn’t wearing any makeup now, and you seriously didn’t think that this woman could get any more beautiful, but, alas, it seems you were mistaken. Before you stood a goddess in champagne coloured silk pyjamas.
Larissa blushed lightly and smiled at you as she saw you staring. She walked up to you and gently examined your hair, your nostrils filling with the scent of her shampoo by the close proximity of her.
“Seems the dye really stuck to your hair… here.” She handed you a fresh towel and some spare pyjamas.
“You can take a shower if you want to!” She added quietly. You smiled back at her and nodded, taking the items in your hands.
“Thank you! I’ll… uhm… I’ll be right back” You stammered out and quickly made your way to the bathroom. It was luxurious, like the rest of her quarters. You weren't surprised that she handed you the probably softest towel ever and the most luxurious pyjama you ever had the honour of wearing. This woman had an immaculate taste, and it was evident in every aspect of her life.
After your quick shower, you tossed the towel into the laundry hamper in the corner of the room and walked out, your dress in your hands. That was definitely ruined now.
You entered the living room again and saw Larissa sitting on her couch in front of the fireplace, two glasses and a bottle of wine on the small table in front of it. You put your dress in your bag and sat next to her. She looked over and smiled softly, handing you a glass of wine, which you took gratefully.
“Thank you! And thanks that I got to use your shower and… borrow some clothes! I really appreciate it.” You smiled at her and took a sip of the wine. Holy mother of god… of course, the wine was absolutely spectacular. Larissa smiled.
“Don’t mention it. It’s the least I could do.. Plus, I do have to admit I like how my Pyjamas look on you.” She smirked and took a sip of her wine. Larissa eyed you as you just looked at her with wide eyes and a bashful look on your face. You sat the glass down and turned to look at her, clearly gathering your courage to say whatever was on your mind. She thought you looked adorable like that. However, what came out of your mouth next was not something she’d expected to hear.
“It’s truly a shame that you didn’t get to take my dress off and discard it somewhere in your room…” You smirked at her smugly, but before you could continue your teasing, she had you already pressed against the cushion of the couch. Looking at her, you saw her eyes were full of lust, full of hunger. She gently lifted your head with her finger under your chin, forcing you to keep eye contact as she gently pressed her knee between your legs. You inhale sharply and look at her, lust evident in your gaze.
“If you want me, all you have to do is say it.” She husked, ghosting her lips over yours. Larissa loved the way you trembled underneath her, but every time you tried to close the gap, she would pull away.
“You have to say it, darling,” she whispered. You were getting restless, a needy whine escaping you.
“Please Larissa…” You whimper and look at her with your best puppy eyes.
“Please what, darling?”
“Please… I need you… I want you,” you breathe out. The heat began to build, and you could already feel that you were soaked. Larissa grinned down at you.
“Good girl!”
You didn’t have time to react as Larissa finally closed the gap, pulling you into a bruising kiss. It was so full of need and lust. Your lips moved against hers in perfect harmony. Wrapping your arms around her, you pulled her close.
The kiss quickly grew hot, passionate. Larissa bit your lower lip, causing you to gasp and giving her the perfect opportunity to deepen the kiss. She explored your mouth with her tongue, leaving you in a state of dizzying bliss. Her skilled tongue fought with yours for dominance, kissing you with such fervour that both of you almost ran out of breath.
You pulled apart just quickly to catch your breaths before Larissa attacked your neck with hot open-mouthed kisses. Trailing her tongue over your pulse point, then latching on to it and sucking hard. Your back arched into her, head tilting to the side to give her better access.
The aching between your legs became almost unbearable. You wrapped one of your legs around her hips, pulling her closer, but Larissa gently pulled away, causing a pathetic whine to escape.
“Patience darling!” She husked as she sat up and swiftly picked you up, carrying you to her bedroom and dropping you on the bed. The second you laid there, she was already on you again, her lips continuing their assault on your neck. Larissa moved to slowly unbutton the pyjama shirt you were wearing, but you were too impatient. With a swift motion, you helped her unbutton the rest of the shirt and pulled it off of your body, leaving you with a bare chest. Larissa chuckled darkly.
“Impatient are we?” she roamed her hands over your soft stomach, cupping one of your breasts. Dipping her head down again, she moved to the other breast and took your hardened nipple in her mouth, teasing it with her teeth and tongue. You moved your hands in her hair, pulling gently at the sensation she was rewarding you with. Larissa moaned against your breast as a reaction which caused you to buck your hips up. You were so desperate for her, and it was so pathetic, but you didn’t care. All you could feel, small, taste, hear, was her. And you needed more.
“Rissa please,” you groaned as you felt her lips travel towards the hem of the pyjama trousers.
“Need you,” you breathed out. Looking down, you saw her smirk up at you. As she pulled away again you were about to protest but seeing her take her blouse off silenced you immediately. You sat up, reaching out to her and running your fingertips over her body, watching goosebumps spreading over her skin. You cupped her breasts and massaged them, teasing her nipples with your fingers as you leaned in to kiss her.
Larissa melted into your touch and kiss. Quiet sighs and moans leaving her lips as she laid you back down.
“I need to taste you darling,” she whispered between kisses, and you whimpered in response, nodding gently.
“Please! Please…”
Larissa kissed her way down your body again, pulling the trousers down as she moved her kisses down your legs. She threw the trousers somewhere into the dark of the room, then moved her hands to your knees, spreading your legs gently. She groaned at the sight of a wet spot on your white lace underwear. The blonde looked up at you, watching your reaction as she ran her thumb over the wet spot, pressing down on it gently. Your back arched off the bed and your mouth opened in a quiet moan.
“P- please Rissa… need you so bad,” you whimpered, rolling your hips against her thumb, needing more friction. In any other situation Larissa would have loved to tease you more, but she was just as desperate to taste you as you were to feel her tongue on you. So without further pause, she swiftly pulled your thong down your legs. She almost moaned at the sight of your glistening cunt in front of her.
“All of this because of me?” she groaned and moved to kiss the inside of your thigh as you nodded.
“You’re such a good girl, y/n.'' Larissa couldn't hold back any more. She had to taste you. The smell of your arousal made her mouth water and her head dizzy. The second her tongue made contact with your wet and hot cunt, the breath got stuck in your throat and Larissa let out one of the most vulgar moans you’ve ever heard, causing your eyes to roll to the back of your head.
Larissa wasted no time in eating you out. Her tongue danced around your clit before she captured it between her lips and sucked. You moaned out loud, her name falling off your lips like a prayer. The way she used her mouth on you made you feel ecstatic, you felt like you were on cloud nine. The world, every responsibility you had, everything that has ever bothered or hurt you, everything that has been on your mind and stressing you out lately was just gone.
Larissa never slowed her ministrations on you, listening to your cues, noticing how your body reacted to certain things. She loved how easily your body reacted to her. It's like you were made to be pleased by her.
“R-issa… need more..” you gasped out between moans. You needed more of her, needed her in you. Larissa smirked and ran her tongue over the length of your slit one last time before rubbing two of her fingers against your entrance gently, coating it with your slick. You were so desperate to feel her fill you up, your hips rolling against her, motioning for her to stop teasing you. She easily slipped one finger in as soon as she thought they were wet enough. You let out a low moan and moved against her as she started pumping her finger in and out slowly. After a while, she pushed a second finger in and watched you grip the sheets.
“You take me so well, my love.” She praised and moved kisses up your body as she picked up speed with her fingers. Larissa managed to hit spots no one ever had, curling her fingers against that soft, spongy spot that made you see stars. Your walls clenched around her fingers, and you felt the coil tighten in your abdomen.
“M’close… Riss-ah” your moans only spurred her on more. She wanted to hear you, she wanted to see you come undone, she wanted to hear her name on your lips over and over and over again. Larissa picked up her pace again, using her thumb to rub small circles over your sensitive clit. The coil in your abdomen was about to snap, and she felt it.
“That's it! Cum for me, y/n. Let me hear you,” she husked into your ear as she nibbled on your earlobe. That was all you needed for the coil to snap. Your legs and arms wrapped around her, needing her impossibly close as you came on her hand with a cry of her name. Larissa was gentle. She helped you ride out your orgasm and then very carefully pulled her fingers out. Your limbs went weak and dropped from her. You lay on the bed, breathing heavily and exhausted. You felt a shift on the bed but didn't have the strength to open your eyes. A few minutes later you felt the mattress dip again then felt a soft, damp and warm sensation between your legs. Larissa had gotten some towels to help clean you up. She used the damp one to clean between your legs and used a dry one to dab the sweat off your face.
A soft smile spread over your lips as the blonde returned the towels, then came back and laid in bed next to you. Pulling her closer, you started to press soft sleepy kisses to her chin and neck, but she stopped you gently. You looked up at her with a pout, and she kissed your forehead gently.
“Rest!” She whispered and pulled you close. You frowned at her.
“But I want to make you feel good too,” you whispered back and held tightly onto her. She just shook her head, a content and also sleepy smile gracing her features.
“You can. Tomorrow! We have all day to ourselves tomorrow,” she replied and stroked your cheek gently, looking into your eyes lovingly. You smiled and nodded, snuggling into her embrace, you let out a quiet and content sigh. This felt right. This felt like home.
“Good Night Rissa.”
“Good Night y/n.”

For as long as you could remember knowing Brienne, she was always taller than you, stronger than you, braver than you. She was meant to be a warrior and you were meant to be a queen, but that didn't affect your friendship, when you were alone, she was just like you, just a girl with dreams and hopes.
The two of you grew up side by side, you being trained to rule and she to protect, when you were alone in your room, you taught her how to be a lady and she how to defend yourself. Brienne was your best friend, she told everything, she told you about all the men she fell in love with and you just said that you didn't want to date anyone, even though the truth was that you were in love with her, but you knew it wouldn't be reciprocated. Brienne liked people with power, princes or governors, she had good taste to be honest, but their taste were limited to men only.
Your heart contracted every time you had to hear how she fell in love with someone new, how you wished that the young woman would speak so adoringly of you, how you wished that those eyes would look only at you, that those arms would hold you at night and embrace you during the day.
A lot of times you praised her and said nice things to her. You always insisted that the islands of Tarth did not bear the nickname of the Sapphire Island because of the color of its waters, but because of the pure color of her eyes. You always said that if you looked into her eyes for too long, you would drown in the depth and feeling you saw in them. But Brienne just laughed, saying that you were such a casanova and loved to say silly things, she never believed you.
Even when you told her you loved her, she just laughed, saying she loved you too, even though you knew it wasn't in the same way as you did.
Brienne quickly fell in love with the boys but never did anything to be with them, so it was up to you to listen to how much she felt for them, how in love she was and how impossible it was for them to pay attention to her. Twelve, so far Brienne had told you about twelve different boys throughout your life. You listened to her talk about each of them and comforted her every time as she cried. You understood her more than she imagined, you were also in love with her and it was impossible for her to pay attention to you. Every time she told you about a new boy, you waited until she was gone to cry in your bed.
When you were kids, Brienne and you promised to be together forever and you honestly thought it would be that way, and that if any of you broke that promise, it would be her the one to do it going after some love of hers. You constantly thought about that, the promise and the reasons there would be to break it. Could it be that one day she would leave you to marry someone else? Or maybe you'd leave her so you wouldn't hurt yourself anymore by her side. The truth is that you didn't know what would hurt more, a life by her side but without being with her or a life away from her. The truth is that you could never leave her or walk away from her no matter how much you wanted to. You never imagined a future without her, in all your dreams Brienne was included... That was until your father called you into the boardroom to discuss some things, things that would change your life forever and make you break the promise and your heart in the process.
That night, you went to Brienne's room to spend time with her like every night, she was talking non-stop but your head was somewhere else, you barely listened to her, you just wanted to cry. Everything felt overwhelming, being with her these moments was overwhelming...
-"And this king visited us, he's so beautiful, his name is Renly, you should have seen him, he was gorgeous! I don't know why you're never present when invited kings come, they're so beautiful..." - she talked but you couldn't liste to her anymore
-"Shut up Brienne, please..."-You whispered teary-eyed and rubbed your face with your hands. The blonde looked at you surprised, you had never stopped her, you always said you loved listening to her voice. She looked into your watery eyes and worried
-"Hey... What's going on?"-she asked
-"I... I can't stand this anymore, I'm tired... I'm sad and tired of listening how you talk about other people, I'm tired of putting up with things I've wanted to tell you for years, things that burn me inside, things that make me sick for not saying them. And this is my last chance to be sincere and honest, and if I don't, I will hate myself eternally..."-You muttered playing with your hands nervously, you were about to have a nervous breakdown
-"What are you talking about? What's going on?" - She asked and sat down next to you on her bed, watching you attentively
-"I... I'm your best friend, we've been friends for years, for as long as I can remember we've always been together. You're always with me and I'm always with you, I'm your handkerchief of tears of unrequited love. My shoulder has a special place for you to lay your head on when your crying won't stop. You always stare at me and ask me why life is so cruel with your feelings and I just hug you and comfort you every time. You ask me for a thousand tips to protect your heart and I always promise that next time I will make sure it doesn't happen again... But what you don't know is that I would like to be that for whom you stay awake and despair, I would like to be that cry, the one that comes from your soul. I would like to be the one for whom you will wake up excited, I would like you to live always in love with me... When you talk about your loved ones, you stare at me and and always ask me if something is happening to me when I sigh listening to you, but if you knew that I was dying and that I wanted to tell you what I feel every time, but I was afraid that you would reject me and that only in my mind would you live forever, 'cause I'd rather live in pain than have a life without you ... How I wished that your sighs of love were for me, that your looks and your laughter were for me, that your love was mine... I always wondered what it would have been like to be loved by you, to have a love reciprocated, I always wondered what it would be like to sleep in your arms instead of being alone in bed, crying until I feel sleep thinking about you... But... I think it doesn't matter anymore, it doesn't matter that I'm saying this, that my love isn't reciprocated or that you would walk away from me... None of this matters anymore because I'm going to other lands, to marry a man I don't love, a man I don't even know, to bring children into the world for him, to serve and obey him. None of this matters because my father told me that I have an arranged marriage and I'm leaving tomorrow... It doesn't matter anymore, but if I didn't vent, I'd die one day from the grief and shame of never letting you know how many years I've loved you and how many more I'll love you even if we don't see each other anymore. Even if we are thousands of miles apart, even if I am married with a man, even if my feelings are not reciprocated, even if you don't love me back, my heart will stay here, with you."-You sighed without looking at her, on one side you felt relief to finally speak, but on the other, you felt incredible pain, you knew that no matter how she responded, this would be a goodbye.
-"You... You what?" - She asked, trying to process it all
-"I love you..."-you whispered, you didn't mind hiding your tears anymore, they were running uncontrollably down your cheeks
-"No, no that, you're leaving?..."-she asked with pain, You felt pain too, you had the small hope that she did care about your confession, but apparently she only cared that you were leaving
-"Yes... In a few hours... I..."-Your speech was cut short when your maid entered Brienne's room looking for you-"I have to go pack..." - you whispered without looking at her and hugged her tightly still crying, Brienne hugged you tightly against her body still bewildered and not understanding what was happening.
As you packed your things, you constantly stared at the door hoping she would come to see you or say something, at least to say goodbye, but she never came to see you. When you were already on the ship you lost your last hope when they set sail and she never showed up. You didn't know what you were expecting, maybe that she would beg you to stay, that maybe your love would be reciprocated or that she would just say goodbye to you, but that didn't happen. Your friend of years, of all life, didn't even come to say goodbye to you.
As soon as you arrived at your new home, the wedding took place, he was a young and loving prince, affectionate and delicate, you knew that for an arranged marriage, you had been very lucky with the partner who you got. It would have been the perfect match if it wasn't for the fact that your love was on the other side of the ocean, your heart, torn to pieces, was left with her.
The years began to pass, years in which you sent letters to Brienne, hoping for an answer, to know something about her, to know if she missed you or at least thought of you as you did, but you never got an answer, and after a few more years, you stopped insisting. The only thing you knew about her was news from your soldiers or your parents when they came to visit, Brienne left the lands of Tarth to go and serve other masters, she had become a strong knight and had gone on with her life as if you had never been important or relevant to her.
You also continued your life, carrying out your duties as queen, giving the king a son, managing the country and its people. You were very good at your position, the country was overflowing with riches and was fruitful thanks to your leadership, the king commanded the army and you the country, the people respected you more than him. In many places you were called the ice queen because you never give nobody a smile, no matter how many riches you achieved, how many battles you won or how good you were to the habitants of the kingdom, your face and tone of voice were always kept controlled and serious. The habitants knew very clear that your marriage to the king was simply convenience for the kingdom, that you respected him but did not love him and would never love him.
On the other side of the ocean, after seven years of knighting, Brienne had to go as the queen's representative to make an alliance, she had to go to a brimming and prosperous kingdom, with an immense and powerful army. Brienne knew very well where she should go, she knew that you were reigning in that place and that she had to see you after seven years. She insisted on sending another representative, but the queen insisted that it should be her.
When the blonde arrived with her army in your kingdom, the king greeted her with a hearty banquet. During the whole dinner, you didn't show up, only the king talked to her. As there were still details to be ironed out, the blonde and her men stayed a couple of days in the place. For several days the only thing she heard from you were the whispers of the castle maids. It wasn't until the third day that he saw you pass through the boardroom, your expression completely serious and cold, your dress and crown perfectly placed, your decisive steps and your head held high. A little boy followed you like the tail follows the dog, holding your hand and running little runs every now and then to keep up with you. Brienne knew you'd heard she was in the castle, but you didn't even give her a glance. She quickly stood up from where she was and started following you
-(Y/N) hey!-she spoke in a powerful voice but you didn't turn around, the only thing that stopped you was that the king called you too, very gracefully you turned facing the two of them
-"My queen, I would like to introduce you to our next allies, she is Brienne, the commander of the army" - Your husband spoke, and you just glanced sideways at Brienne, not letting go of your son's hand and not changing your serious expression
-"A pleasure lady Brienne" - You muttered under your breath and the blonde bowed slightly- "Now, if you'll excuse me, my son and I have things to do" - You muttered and turned to go on your way
-"You must excuse my wife, she is a serious woman of few words"-the king commented to the blonde who was still watching where you had gone. He didn't even know you, you weren't really like that, you had the sweetest smile and the most contagious laugh, and the way your eyes sparkled when you said something that moved you was the most beautiful thing, Brienne knew those things because she did know you.
More days passed and Brienne noticed how you were avoiding her on purpose, you didn't even show up to eat most of the time, the king apologized for your behavior, but she didn't care what he said.
After eating Brienne saw how you were training your son in the garden, you still had the same grace and quickness with the sword as when you were children. The blonde looked at your movements for a while, paying attention to them, and how you smiled at your son when he made a good defense, how she missed your smile... Your seriousness quickly returned to your face when you saw her standing there watching you, without saying a single word, your son grabbed his sword and went to clean up a bit. The blonde took this as a sign to get closer to you
-"Your child doesn't talk much, and neither do you, and to think that not even the king himself could silence you before"-Brienne joked and you put your swords in their place
-"My son has been deaf since birth, he only speaks in signs and I speak to him the same way, or there are times when he reads lips... What are you still doing in my palace? Your men already withdrew a couple of days ago and the alliance is made, you have no reason to be here"-You spoke seriously while keeping your distance from her
-"I was looking forward to spending some time with you... Like the old days, talking about a little bit of everything" - she whispered hopefully
-"We're not little girls anymore, we're not friends either, I don't have anything to tell you, I have no reason to speak to you"-you answered dryly
-"Why do you act like we don't know each other, like we haven't been friends for years?" - she asked
-"Because we have changed, many years have passed and the things you thought you knew about me no longer exist. I'm not the same anymore, you don't know me anymore"-You responded angrily- "I tried to keep in touch with you, maybe if you had answered even once, our friendship would still stand, but that's over now. We're not friends anymore and I don't want to see you again."-You walked past her to go inside the castle but she grabbed your hand
-"You know, the morning you left, I had prepared everything to go with you, after you confessed I realized that I had never tried to move forward with anyone I was attracted to because no one could be like you, at first I thought I was doing it because my love would not be reciprocated by them because I am not very graceful, but I didn't really try anything because they weren't you. And I had to listen to your confession to realize that I was in love with you, a love that I was mistaken for friendship...But that morning, when I went to the port to meet you, the ship had sailed earlier than agreed, and you were already gone. I decided to look for a ship that would take me to where you were, but a crow arrived in the kingdom announcing that your marriage to the prince was already official, I realized that it took me a long time to decipher my feelings and it was too late to go looking for you...I didn't answer any of your letters because it hurt so much to think that you now belonged to someone else and that I had been too foolish to realize earlier what I felt"-Brienne whispered and you let go of her grip
-"Did it hurt you a lot? How do you think I felt? They took me out of my home to bring me to a place I didn't know, my family stayed in Tarth and I was left here alone, married to a man I didn't know. I didn't care about my confession of love anymore, I just needed my best friend to comfort me and you disappeared. You can't come here and pretend like nothing happened when you abandoned me when I needed you most"-You ended up shouting your last words and then went to your chambers.
Brienne stayed in the garden and was frightened when the king spoke to her, he had heard everything
-"It was always very clear to me that she didn't love me, but I never imagined that it was because she loved a woman..."-he talked
-"I'm so sorry my king, I didn't mean to...-she tried to apologize but he stopped her
-"She's an excellent queen, the people loves here and the country has never been so powerful. But to be honest, she isn't a very good wife, do you know how many times she made it clear to me that having sex was only to fulfill her duty as a wife, only to give me a heir... She doesn't even kiss me or hold my hand, when we're alone, we only talk about the realm and politics, nothing personal... She despise me because I took her chance to be happy and in love... Our son's name is Brian, she said she named him that because it reminded her of someone she missed a lot, now that I know your name, I know she named it that way for you... Even though she's angry, she's still in love with you. Every morning she writes letters for "her life", that's how she signs them and always says that she left her life behind, she always writes for you but she never sends them, she just keeps them... She's still missing you, she's just too proud to let go of her anger to let you know that... But I know that if you apologize to her, things will work out...-The king spoke, looking at the woman as she got surprised
-"My king, I would never overlook your marriage just to pursue a clandestine love" - she said and the king laughed
-"She's miserable next to me, and even though she doesn't love me, I want her to be happy. You have my blessing to be together as long as the people of the kingdom don't find out. You have to maintain the reputation of marriage in front of people... But inside the palace, you can do whatever you want, I won't get in the way... So take advantage of this opportunity and go fix things as soon as possible"-The king smiled and walked away slowly, letting Brienne think of a way to set things right and win you over.
The next day Brienne organized a small picnic with the help of the castle maids. A servant told you that the king needed to see you and your son in the palace gardens, but when you arrived, Brienne was waiting for you, not the king. You were about to turn around and leave with your son until you saw that she started talking to your son in signs
🤟"Hello, my name is Brienne and I have known your mother since we were children, I have missed her a lot and I wanted you both to tell me how you have been, that's why I prepared this picnic, would you like to stay?" 🤟- You were surprised at how clearly Brienne was signing, your son looked at all the food and nodded excitedly sitting on the blanket and eating cookies
-"Using my son and cookies to keep me should be considered treason"-you murmured to the blonde and sat down next to your son. Brienne handed your boy a notebook and brushes and he painted amusedly. -"Why did you bring us here?"
-"I still remember..."-she whispered
-"What?"-You looked at her in confusion
-"I still remember that night, where we hid in the throne room, eating cookies and thinking about our future. I remember the promise we made, no matter where fate takes us or the miles that separated us, we would always be friends... I know I failed by not answering you, but that doesn't mean I didn't think of you... Still, after all these years I remember your laughter, your perfume, I remember how you would steal my blouses when you thought I didn't see you and then wear them to sleep. I still remember how you’d be there for me, through both the thick and the thin, I remember our inside jokes, I remember and miss every minute we spent together... I miss you, I miss my best friend, I miss feeling my heart pounding every time you hold me, I miss laughing and crying with you... I made a lot of mistakes, the first one was letting you go, but the past can't be changed, we can only forge our future... And I don't want a future where I don't have you... I miss you so much... I love you...so so much..."-She whispered the last part and you sighed
-"Brienne, We can't define the future either, I have a path to follow and you have one too, I'm a queen, I'm a mother now, I can't just leave everything to go back to the way things were before, we're not kids anymore, everything has changed... We've changed..."-you said sadly
-"The king gave me his blessing, he gave it to both of us, as long as we keep our affairs within the castle, we are free to live as we wish. I don't know if you still love me, but from the day you left, my love for you just continued to grow... I just want a chance to revive our friendship and see what happens from there, I won't pressure or push us to do anything that doesn't happen on its own. I just want my best friend back, these years without you were torture..."- She spoke looking into your eyes with sincerity
-"I...I think" - You started talking but your son touched your shoulder getting your attention, he showed you the drawing he had been painting
-🤟It's me, you and your friend Brienne eating cookies and painting together, I like her🤟-Your child said in signs smiling
-🤟It's beautiful my boy🤟-You answered and then looked at Brienne-"I think we could try to be friends again..."-You replied and the blonde smiled taking your hand with great joy-"How did you learn to sign fast?" - You asked her
-I only learned that phrase so I could communicate with him, your husband taught me and I was practicing all night, I would like to learn more so I can talk to him, if you could teach me I would be very grateful" she whispered and you nodded smiling
-🤟I still love you and it makes me so happy to have you around again🤟-you sign smiling and looking her in the eye
-""What does that mean?" she asked with confusion
-"It's something you'll understand in time" you replied with a laugh.

It started about two months ago. Russia went down first, then Mongolia. China. India. And in the midst, Finland, Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom, down to the very southern tip of Africa. The Ocean is no killer of disease, frozen or not, and encouraged it to ravage South and North America, then Canada and Greenland. Until every place was overrun by dead freaks. Stinking corpses and moving gore.
They traveled in herds, packs, whatever it was that people wanted to call them—murders, perhaps—and shuffled aimlessly across any land they could find. Eager for food, for sustenance, to fill the empty bellies that would never be full. Gorging themselves on creatures like you.
Officially ‘the other’. Officially ‘the enemy’. The sole survivor of a good group that was attacked some days ago because an idiot forgot to shoot one of the creatures in the head. And by sunrise, it was over. Screams echoed into the silence and you soon found yourself alone… running for your life with a duffle bag over your shoulder (slowing you down) and a gun in your hand (low on ammo). Trekking through thick woods in a heavily-infested Vermont town was not a good idea, but you had no choice. The house you were camping in was left behind, ravaged by bullets that you put into your friend’s heads, and every other spot nearby had been looted. You couldn’t move all of those bodies yourself. You couldn’t do much yourself. There was no army background attached to your name, no conspiracy theorist survival-obsessed gene in your body, and not much training in fighting either. All you could do was run. Run and run and run until you were miles away and your lungs started to burn. Not the most useful skill considering most people could run, but if you were quick enough to speed past the shuffling bastards, you were quick enough to make it to safety.
Safety…what a joke. A shit joke. A joke that was, quite honestly, the worst joke to ever exist. There was no safety. No place, nowhere. You’d been walking for a few hours, hearing nothing but the forest’s silence, and stumbling over leaves and branches. They ravaged the animals, took them into their mouths like they were people, and ate until there was nothing left. Not even a squirrel, or a fox, and the birds had grown weary of the vast number of hunters (both dead and undead) that found themselves in the woods looking for food. So no birds either. And no houses. And you were pretty sure, as you paused to catch your breath, that you were doomed.
Only a few bullets left and your aim was never perfect. One knife tucked into your waistband but it was getting uncomfortable, digging into your skin, and caked in blood. Creature blood. Everything smelled horrible. Like burning flesh or dirty meat, raw and soiled. You probably didn’t smell too good either. It wasn’t like the world still worked without the people; only a few places had running water and you couldn’t trust the creeks and rivers. The undead enjoyed walking through shallow water, knowing somehow that there’d probably be prey nearby.
But you hadn’t seen anything in a while. A long while. A suspiciously long while...
Everything was green and brown around you, whisked by wind and soil, and you stood out like blood against snow. The last thing you saw was yesterday. Ever since? Not a single flash of undead flesh.
You swallowed, throat embarrassingly dry, and tapped your fingers against your thigh.
It wasn’t good when everything was still. You were vulnerable, out in the open, and without a good few rounds of bullets to spare. Every muscle and organ in your body screamed for mercy, crying with the effort it took to keep surviving even when you didn’t want to.
You thought about it a few times; gave the gun in your hand a long look on several occasions, but ultimately decided that ‘opting out’ was only a last resort. Somehow, even amidst the chaos and hatred and swill of humanity’s nature, you managed to hold hope. And often wondered where it would get you. How it would get you. While you were sleeping? While you were already wounded? Fighting off the hands of a loved one? The twist of hope’s rope… would you feel it closing in around your neck? A literal metaphor for the eventual death you’d experience?
Thinking about it gave you a headache.
For where was the point in wondering?
You had no one else. Whatever form of death awaited, it would end up being your fault. Probably because you couldn’t run fast enough. Probably because-
Because-
Wait.
Somewhere behind you, on the right, was a low sound. A hum. The smooth whoosh of something quick. The parting of wind… the low growl of…
“Fuck.”
You shot off in that direction, bag smacking against your shoulder blades, and instantly felt the exhaustion pull at your body again. It lingered like a plague, like the undead disease, and you yearned to fall to your knees - to give in - but it wasn’t the time for that. You had to at least try. You had to at least make it over the hill. Right over the hill. So close but so far. You leaned forward, threw yourself at the ground, and grasped onto gnarled tree roots. The Earth smelled wet with decay, sweet with promise - you huffed against dry leaves. They crunched and scratched at your fingers, eventually crinkling into nothing when your arms worked to drag you up. You probably looked a little mad, scrambling up a steep hill to reach something that probably won’t save you, but there was no other option. The hum grew louder, the quiet was broken, and you only had a few moments to get this right.
“Help!” Your lungs caved around your scream, but the forest swallowed it instantly. Greedy trees with their greedy barks, wanting to keep you hidden from salvation. The hum grew louder. Your fingers grew clammy, sweating and slipping against rough wood.
You’d be bruised to high heaven later, and probably exhausted, but the hum and the growl of an engine meant a road and a road meant civilization and goddammit you just needed to get over the stupid fucking hill.
There was a loud ringing in your ears, nearly deafening, and making your voice sound fuzzy.
“Help! Help!”
Was that you? Were you the one screaming like that? Why couldn’t you be quiet? Those things could have been lurking… wandering nearby… coming up behind you, eager to grasp at your ankles and drag you back down to Hell.
A glance back over your shoulder, aching from the duffle bag, found nothing but blurred terrain and darkened leaves–a symptom of the setting sun. Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck. If the light went out, you’d be screwed. You couldn’t use the last of your matches and the world went black when evening struck. So there really was no choice. As the growl turned into a roar… there was no choice. Just a little higher- a little more. Your arms pushed, biceps straining against the cotton of your shirt, and your pants threatened to get caught on wayward sticks and tear into rags. The boots on your feet pressed hard against loose rocks, kicking them out of place, and gained just enough ground to push you up - over the ridge. The final stretch. Your chest pushed to the hard dirt and forced a grunt of effort from your tired body; the sound echoed through the woods, through the ground, and through the air that sat above the concrete road in front of you. Hard and vast, grey and long… you looked at it as though it were the holiest of grails, lying just beside it with your arms outstretched, your fingers still pulling at dirtied grass. Soil covered your skin, masked your features, caked beneath your fingernails, and when the roar of the speeding vehicle grew so close you had to close your eyes and wince, you knew raising a hand for help would not be enough. In the shade of the forest’s edge, half draped over the peak of the hill, you were inhuman to other survivors. Your dry mouth opened, your throat croaked, and your legs moved to push you up–closer–just short of the wind that caressed your hair when the car, the truck, ran past you with no second glance. You looked after it, watched it pass, and felt the burn in your heart grow into its own inferno. It licked at your insides, at your desperation, and had you hauling the duffle bag off of your shoulder and out onto the road. It rolled, a shuffling sound, and you followed after it with deep growls of effort and dwindling strength.
“Please,” you wheezed, panting for breath as soon as you staggered up to your feet.
In the distance, the car turned into a disappearing black spec. It drove and drove, out of sight, and you stood there, putting your arms in the air to wave it down and bring it back. To beckon it back. To beg and plead.
“Please please no-,” your voice was soft, weakened by days of rugged survival, “no…” rough and lost to the wind, it dissipated into nothing and you were forced to swallow again.
The thick smell of car exhaust settled against the steaming road. You watched the horizon, tracking the space in the atmosphere where the gold traced into a deep blue, and felt your bones quake beneath your skin. Their final cry. The last hurrah as you watched your future, the tatters of it, drive away from you.
Too late.
You were too late.
And you’d die there, on that road, and they may never come back and find you again in the morning. And your corpse would be chewed upon by undead bastards who would never give you a proper burial. And you’d be just another stupid human that found themselves trampled beneath the stinking feet of the walking dead.
Tears teased your eyes, burning the dry lands of your irises, and you felt the heart in your chest lurch against its cage.
 Too late.
You were too late.
You had a duffle bag, a handgun somewhere off to the side, and the clothing on your back. One lasting water bottle, the knife you felt poking your side, and small bags of food that wouldn’t last you long at all. The tent, too, was destroyed by animals the night before. The most you could go was perhaps one more day, but your feet were aching so terribly that each step was a journey within itself. And you couldn’t push yourself to go further. There was no further. There was nothing in the woods and there was nothing beyond the road and you were running on fumes that no longer existed.
But you couldn’t just lie there and take it. You were about to reach over, bending at the waist, to grab your bag. To pull it up over your shoulder and trek on, even though it was pointless. But something stopped you.
Something–a sound–made you freeze.
It was faint. It didn’t sound like the undead, with their discordant groans and disgusting squelches, no… it was far. Getting closer. Closer. The hum and the growl. The purr of a motor. The hiss of pavement.
Your head snapped up, eyes bulging wide as you looked over the horizon to see…. Yes. Yes! Yes, it’s them! The car! A grin pulled at your lips. Halle-fucking-lujah! You felt the anxiety ebb, slowly falling away from your body, as they got closer. The black spec turned into a black blob, then a figure that took shape, and finally you could make out a Vermont license plate and the dirt that stuck to big wheels. Up close, it was a sleek thing, tall and well-built. Midnight black and aside from the splatter on the rubbered wheels, it was polished and clean. The dark paint reflected the bright world around you, turning it into weird warped versions of a faux-paradise. You swallowed at the feel of warmth against your legs, the exhaust from the truck flooding over the smallest sliver of skin around your ankles. Suddenly fearing a changed mind and bad intentions, you stumbled back until your heels pushed against your bag.
Tinted windows stared down at you, menacing and opaque. Not a thing to see behind them, even if you squinted. Nothing moved, nothing jumped, and you watched with bated breath for a window to roll down - until finally, it did.
The driver’s side. It went whirr-ing down, sliding for the shortest period of time in the world until only a shadow met you - and then a flicker of movement. And then-
“Oh my god! Jesus! Okay okay!” You flinched, not even hesitating to raise your hands above your head. You spread your fingers out, desperate to prove your innocence to the stranger in the car. And the gun they were holding, pointing at you, through the gap.
“Were you bit?” A rough voice, muted and deep, broke the atmosphere.
You shook your head.
“Words. Use them.”
“No,” you licked your lips, instantly deciding to turn around in a slow circle. “Not bitten. Not scratched.” You tried to ignore the way your hands shook, even as you shifted all the way back to face the gun’s muzzle.
“Ask where…” a voice, soft and feminine, came from somewhere beyond the driver’s seat. It was saying something, telling something, but faded into a whisper so quiet you couldn’t hear a thing. Your eyes shifted to the dark backseat windows, trying to see something- anything- and found no surprise in the lack of life.
“Any weapons?” The driver seemed to ignore the other person, and instead held the gun steady. You watched it with weary eyes.
“Yes.” And before they could ask, you tugged the knife out of your belt and the gun out of your pants pocket. They were held up in the air, another white flag, and you twitched the hand that held the firearm. “At least three bullets left, but that’s it.”
“And the others?”
You blinked. “Others? What oth-”
“Where is the rest of your ammunition? In the skull of a human or scum?” The stranger spat, and you detected the hints of an accent.
Scum… you’d never heard them referred to as that before. Your last group called them walkers, and some others claimed flesh-eaters. You were tempted to use ‘zombies’, but it felt rather silly. The world took that term too lightly, and the undead were nothing if not a very serious problem. But scum? Like they were beneath humanity and not its current destroyer? You’d ask about it later, you decided, if they deemed you well enough to take in.
“Both,” you breathed honestly, dropping your weapons to your sides with a heavy sigh. “They um- weren’t quite there yet. Got ambushed overnight.”
The gun still didn’t move.
“They don’t ambush. What really happened?”
Hm. They weren’t wrong. Animated corpses didn’t ‘ambush’, but when a herd of them went lurking about, it certainly felt that way. You didn’t think logistics were entirely necessary, but you understood the need for specifics. Trust among men was eviscerated in the face of danger, especially against those once living. You’d seen paranoia before, in others. Humans simply didn’t take each other in anymore… not without some level of severe mistrust. The second thought after seeing the truck drive off was that you probably wouldn’t be accepted anyway - you’d killed without technical reason. Could have just left. Run away.
But you didn’t.
You didn’t want to see them turn into those… creatures.
So what else was there to say? You stared at the gun, willing a click and the shot of a bullet, as you opened your mouth.
“A herd. A lot of them. Just… descended upon the place. Someone might’ve been walking around in the woods or something, and there was just not enough protection,” you paused, licking your lips, “...I was the last one alive. Had to shoot them and go.”
“How long since?”
“Few days, give or take,” you shrugged. The exhaustion only built as you stood there, trying not to sway and collapse in your spot. The truck was still running, hissing hot exhaust; it was the first genuinely warm thing you’d felt in so many days that you wanted to crawl underneath and take a nap. The world, turning to autumn, was growing chilly. There was no chance you could survive winter on your own.
“...Give or take,” you heard the driver scoff and laugh, bitter and mean. You frowned.
Then the window started going up, and you couldn’t help yourself. With a hard thunk, you pushed your shoulder hard against the car, and knocked on the thick glass with the butt of the knife. A look of utter desperation crossed your features, heavy and thick. Urgency, anxiety, fear forced any sense from your mind. There was no chance. There was no survival at all.
“No please- please I can’t be out here alone please- I’m smart and- and I can run fast and be an asset. Please,” you shook your head, searching with worried eyes, “please, please you can’t do this to me-”
Something dark spliced through the corner of your vision, dragging a shadow with it, and you just barely dodged the sudden swing of the truck’s backseat door. It bounced with force and you glanced back at the driver’s window once before stepping back and hastily swinging your bag over your shoulder. The knife and gun were slipped back into your clothing, concealed, and you held yourself strong as the black leathered interior bore itself to the world.
“-we can’t just leave them-”
“-on’t be stupid. They could be a liability-”
“-not stupid. We need more people-”
Voices, at least two, were rushed and tangled in an argument. You didn’t pay much attention to what you could hear, though the growing irritation was hard to ignore. It would be a hassle to be accepted, you knew, but you’d deal. There was no choice. The backseat door was open and there was a figure hustled back against the other window.
“The offer won’t last,” the stranger murmured, somehow louder than the two people in the front seats, and you decided not to take any chances in the world alone.
With a grunt, a push, and a final slam of the door, you found yourself in the truck. Your bag was pushed down by your feet, you tugged your knife out to rest it on your thigh, and you turned to say thank you- but was cut off by a cold blade at your throat. It grazed the soft dirty skin, less than a centimeter away from pushing, and you felt saliva pool in the back of your throat. Swallowing would have pressed you closer, so you fought the urge and only stared.
“Woah-”
“Try anything and you die. I don’t want a peep, not a shuffle. Do I make myself clear?”
The driver’s voice, clearer in such close quarters, was deep and mean. Accent, as you had clocked, from somewhere in the United Kingdom. It held a natural growl, a gruffness from years of smoking, perhaps, and you couldn’t help but sense the intimidation. It wasn’t fake confidence, you noticed, as you looked up and met the cool sharp grey gaze of a woman. Her hair, a deep blonde, was slicked back and short, ruffled slightly by the nape of her neck. A long neck… that led to strong looking shoulders. They were half covered by a jacket, but you could see the strength in the chords of her muscle. A force to be reckoned with. A leader, perhaps. She was pale, with a defined nose and lips twisted into a permanent sneer, and you probably would have thought she had some potential for post-apocalyptic modeling, if it weren’t for the scar that covered one half of her face. Slashed across the left eye, the wound was jagged and rough - it dragged from a point close to the exact middle of her forehead, right to the corner of her jaw. Thicker at parts and thinner at others, it split through a pale eyebrow and seemed to have permanently rendered her blind. The lid didn’t even move when one stormy eye shifted, and you suddenly felt extremely creeped out. Something about her was undeniably cold. Almost reckless, but her hand was so steady with control you knew not to make a move. She’d probably kill without hesitation, dump you back into the road, and drive off with the duffel. There was no choice but to answer, answer quickly, and do as told.
“Yes, clear.” Your head shifted half an inch up and half an inch down, still cautious of the blade.
But she didn’t move.
It was a battle of wills for just a moment, with your hands in your lap, empty and docile. You weren’t looking for a fight, or a staring contest, but the stranger didn’t let up until the figure to your right decided to sit up and speak.
“Ah they do not seem so bad. Look at them. Tired and scared, like sad city mouse,” another woman, one with a Russian accent and a voice a hint too loud, cooed.
Silence followed, persisted, for only a minute- and then the blade was tugged back so quickly you swear it nearly cut the air in two. The driver tsked as she twisted herself around, murmuring as she went.
“More like a rat.”
And then you were thrown to the side with a heavy wheeze as the truck lurched and began moving, working into a turn so you could go back the way they’d come.
You glared at the back of the headrest, not feeling above a little bit of irritation for some poor handling, but eventually grew bored. With some apprehension, your eyes flicked over to the person in the passenger seat. Their profile was strong, feminine, and you noted the unbelievably well-kept head of snowy hair. She looked clean, just like the driver, and a spark of hope welled up in your tired heart. Running water and food existed where they came from, wherever they were camped out, and if you played your cards right, you could finally indulge in some good hygiene. Unless the woman in the passenger seat was stingy with her water… god her skin was so clear, and she seemed to be wearing makeup. No one wore makeup anymore. Not the people in your old group and not the few stragglers you’d stumbled across. It simply wasn’t a necessary luxury anymore, but the woman sitting across from you, back straight and hands in her lap, seemed to think it was of the utmost importance. You wanted to speak, wanted to ask her name, but found yourself turning to your right - and catching the gaze of the person that opened the door for you.
“Anna,” your savior spoke, tilting her head to the left and regarding you with curious eyes. A pale hand, big and long-fingered, shot out and hovered above your lap. You glanced down at it, at the clean skin and the perfect fingernails, and knew that you hit the survivalist jackpot.
With a nod and a quick clasp of her hand, you whispered your name in reply. She nodded before leaning back against the door and crossing her arms; she seemed quite comfortable there, with a rather large gun resting across her lap. Her hair, blonde as well, fell in gentle waves to her shoulders. She saw with deep blue eyes - a contrast to the cold steel of the driver - and didn’t hesitate to flick them over your body in some sort of analytical search. Weapons, you figured, is what she was looking for. And the knife in your lap, which she eyed with some interest.
You wanted to say something, wanted to thank them, but it didn’t feel like enough. Nothing felt like enough those days. Asking something of someone was a risk every single time. And you’d asked—begged—them to take you in. You needed to pull your weight, no questions asked.
“Um- thank you for-”
“Shoot them.”
“What?!” You straightened up, eyes going wide as, in your peripherals, you saw Anna’s hand inch toward her gun. Through the rear-view mirror, you caught the way the driver’s brow twitched.
“You heard me. Shoot them.”
“Pha-”
“I said no talking,” the stranger growled, not even bothering to address the woman in the passenger seat. The white-haired woman looked frustrated, her red lips tugging into a frown, as she watched the driver double down on her focus. “Didn’t I say that?”
“But I-,” you wanted to plead your case, wanted to defend yourself, but were cut off.
“I am not going to shoot,” Anna said before you could speak. “Why do you expect her to be quiet hah, Phasma? We just saved her жопa. No need for fighting.”
You glanced at her, picking up on the Native tongue. Fresh off the boat, or perhaps visiting, with the way she said it so easily. Zhopa? Given the context, it wasn’t hard to tell what she meant. Yes, they had just saved your ass. And yes, you wanted to say thank you. Even if that Phasma person wasn’t too keen on a bit of gratitude.
“I hardly think thanking us for a kind deed is worthy of execution, no matter how much silence you require,” the fair-haired woman across from you said smoothly, throwing a slight glare to the woman on her right. And finally, she took that moment to turn around in the seat and make eye contact.
Something that proved to be far more difficult than you thought it would. Good lord, she was gorgeous. Pale skin, deep admiral blue eyes, and lips redder than blood. Not even a scratch on her face, not even a single spec of dirt - as if the apocalypse never happened and there weren’t dead people roaming every street in the world. In fact, she didn’t seem incredibly worried about the predicament the human species found itself in, and was looking at you with kind eyes, a furrowed brow, and a smile that she hoped was welcoming.
“My name is Larissa,” her hand, gloved in white fabric as soft as silk, reached out as an olive branch. You wanted to take it, wanted to feel something so lovely for the first time in a long time and create some sort of bond, but your hands were very dirty. A part of you guessed that Larissa hadn’t put them on earlier that day with the hope to return to camp holding soft fabric smudged with dirt and dried blood, so you only looked down at your palm and then back at hers.
“Oh uh- I don’t wanna get your gloves dirty-”
“Oh,” she glanced down, realizing that she was, in fact, wearing hand-coverings. “Later, then,” a warm smile shone back at you - and you were helpless, instantly offering her a nod in return.
“Finished?” The driver piped up, eyes cold as she stared at you in the rear-view.
As if on cue, Larissa turned back around in her seat, rolling her eyes as she went, and you could only fall quiet. Introductions were over, you were warming up to the easy heat in the car, and Phasma–if you dared address her by name in your head–had a good handle of the wheel. You were safe. For now. And with one last suspended look at the gun on Anna’s lap, you reached over for the seatbelt, tucked yourself in with a click, and leaned back in the seat. It was so suddenly comfortable, such a huge contrast to the shit you’d dealt with recently, that you couldn’t help but close your eyes and revel. Even for a moment. Even for a second.
“Get up,” a mean grunt, paired with a quick rush of piercingly cold air, tugged you from the depths of sleep.
Before you could even open your eyes properly, a shiver set itself into your bones. Eager to escape it, and the confines of the car, you jolted and scrambled for your seatbelt. Leaning against the open door, watching you grab your things, was the driver. Phasma? Weird name, but there was no time to dwell - especially not when she was looking at you like that. Eyes sharper than the knife on your lap, holding a polished chrome pistol in one hand, and waiting with some tension for you to hurry up. The duffel was pulled up onto your shoulder, the knife was tucked into your belt, and your hands scratched at the leather as you looked around wildly for your gun.
“We took it. You’ll get it back when you prove you’re not a complete imbecile,” she spat, peering down her nose at you. Disgust danced in her expression, sparking flames of unwanted insecurity, and you felt compelled to look away. Her nostrils were flared, her pink lips curled into something disdainful and mean, and you couldn’t help but watch the way her jaw shifted as she tensed, watching you watch her. The hatred seemed a bit out of place, too strong for normal trust issues, and you briefly wondered if perhaps she’d always been that way - even before the end of civilization. She was clearly a bitch, and not interested in showing you kindness any time soon, so you decided to forgo a response, ignored her glaring, and slipped out of the car without a word.
Before your feet were completely on the ground, and your bag was out of the way, the door slammed closed behind you, quick and sharp. The speed of it nearly clipped your shirt, and you whirled around to face the stranger’s irritation. She seemed to have lost interest in you and side-stepped your figure without another glance. One finger on the trigger, a shit-ton of audacity-filled swagger in her walk, and a back broad and strong. She looked like an outlaw, tall, mean, wearing grey with a belt around her strong hips and a leather jacket over her shoulders. You wanted to throw your gun at her and watch it hit the back of her head, but there was no way in Hell you’d be able to run away faster than she could catch you.
“Come,” you heard Anna speak, interrupting your train of thought as she trudged up to your left. You turned, seeing the way she cocked her head. “I’ll introduce you.” The gun swayed in her grasp as she turned, making little shuffling sounds in the grass.
The grass.
You went to go forward, but stopped. The grass. It was… terribly neat. Very well maintained. Not like apocalypse grass, which was flat and bloodied and mudded and dusted, but like rich person grass. Striking green grass, healthy, it bounced back behind you when you stepped on it. And the air… you took a deep breath and closed your eyes. It was fresh. Pure. Free of the smell of death and free of gunpowder and spraying blood. Just where on Earth were y-
oh.
Oh.
You looked up, finally, and found yourself in a courtyard. On all sides was a wall, sections of it made of brick, others of stone, and the rest of wrought iron fence, bolted hard into the ground; and across the way, piercing the sky, was a manor. Or what looked like a manor. No - what was definitely a manor. Dark, illuminated slightly by the deep blue of the atmosphere and the torches that littered the ground in neat paths, splitting off into cobblestone sections. You swallowed. It was gorgeous. Untouched. A world that seemed to run on and on while the rest of the globe went to shit.
How fucking lucky were you?
“Come! I must say twice?!” Anna called, giving you an exasperated beckon as she started disappearing behind the dark stone brick of the main entrance.
Sparing a quick glance behind you, you found a fortified gate and short stone walls - reinforced and built upon with barbed wire, wood, and sheets of metal. It must have opened up for the truck when you were still asleep, but was very much firmly shut and impenetrable once closed. You wanted to explore it more, wanted to study the mechanism and the layout and come to understand just how they managed to get the place so protected, but you didn’t want to leave Anna waiting. And a low rumble of thunder, far but rolling quick, told you that rain was eager to make her appearance - and you did not want to get caught in that.
After adjusting your bag and patting the knife in your belt for reassurance, you set off after the Russian stranger.
“So I am Anna, this you know already,” she pointed to herself, tapped her chest twice, then rolled her hand over to gesture to the clearing ahead.
It was beautiful, outlined against a dark wood. Rocky paths led to a big circle in the middle, and the ruins of stone benches and statues littered the camp. You could definitely see what it used to be - a beautiful place for the elite to sit, to bask, to enjoy the nice air and the wind. But the end of the world had gotten to it, not with the bearings of total destruction, but with the promise of change. A big spruce shelter had been built to the far left, reinforced with four beams and no walls - clearly just meant to keep the rain at bay while they worked outside. Beneath it, there were wooden benches and designated spots for farming equipment, guns, and even a water purifying system from the looks of it. If you assumed that sleeping quarters and showers existed in the castle, then they seemed to be in the best shape anyone could be in.
Even the people, who were busy going about their evening and tending to their duties, while you watched by Anna’s side and felt your excitement grow.
“Phasma was woman driving. Not so kind,” she tsked, giving you a knowing look, and you found yourself unable to ask about the strange name. You figured she wouldn’t have known the answer anyway. Then her hand moved, stealing your attention. “That is Jane,” she pointed to a pale woman sitting on one of the large stone benches.
Her back was turned, but you could see the severity of her expression in the reflection of a hand mirror. She was handsome, free of makeup, with jet-black hair. The strands fell from between her fingertips, spilling like water, as she threaded them into a braid around her head. Her movements were slow, methodic, and you watched, sort of hypnotized, as the long sleeves of her hooded dress stretched across her slim back. Tight along her arms and resting over the black pants covering her thighs, leading down to knee-high leather boots. Fit for an apocalypse, but somehow still chic. You watched her hands for a moment more, and turned slightly to her right when Anna gestured to the woman beside her.
“Miranda. Good girl, but way too skinskie,” she nodded to herself while crossing her arms.
The stranger in question–Miranda–was holding up an antique hand mirror for Jane to look into while doing her hair. They seemed to be the same height, though Miranda’s build was lankier and toned. The sleeves of her white top had to have been torn off, leaving freckled shoulders free to the air, and around one wrist was a black watch. It nearly matched the same leather as her belt, which held an attached holster and a sleeve for a walkie-talkie. Its antenna stood out against the baby blue of her uniform pants; tight by the hips but baggier toward the ankles, tucked into dark laced boots. Her hair was styled into a fair blonde bob, probably recently cut by the sight of such clean edges. It looked unbearably soft kissing the back of her neck.
“She was policewoman. Strong.” Anna commented, gazing at her from your spot by the castle wall.
You nodded absentmindedly, looking over the two strangers and the chess board that sat between them on the bench. Jane had black and Miranda white. The latter seemed to be focusing quite hard on the game, holding a pawn loosely in one hand, as the dark-haired beauty tsked and adjusted the hand mirror that slowly slipped to the side. You watched Miranda jump and offer what you assumed was a sheepish apology, as she tried to multitask. Her small smile was pink and soft, warm and welcoming. A friend, perhaps.
“Very…domestic,” came your soft murmur, sparked by the surprise of such a peaceful camp. In the past group, everyone was too busy trying to sleep, find food, or talk themselves through panic attacks. Maintaining sanity with comfort was not a priority.
“Da. Comfortable,” your companion nodded. “Jan is there, washing.” And you turned, yet again, to find a figure standing in front of a clothesline.
The combat boots made her seem tall, though they were a bit out of place—not really matching the long white sleeved shirt and full red skirt combo. Immaculate and clean, you noticed, though that was to be expected from a woman trying her hardest to get blood out of a white blouse. Her hands were covered by blue rubber gloves, with one clutched around a sponge and the other around the neck of a bottle of white wine vinegar. On the ground by her feet was a large pale jug of hydrogen peroxide and a bucket of what you assumed was water. And the blouse in front of her, held up by wooden clothespins, rippled from the breeze. It seemed to get colder and windier the longer the night went on, probably bringing the rain with it at some point. With any luck, it would clear up the light splotches of pink that covered most of the shirt’s chest up to the collar, but ‘Jan’ didn’t seem too patient and satisfied with that. She got back to her scrubbing a moment later, the strict waves of her blonde hair bumping gently against her neck.
“Jan is very chic. You go to her for fashion advice, no?” Anna tilted her head at you, dragging dark blue eyes over your face. The lawn lamps stabbed into the grass lit everything up with a sweet warm glow, bringing out the flames in her expression as she peered at you curiously. Very handsome, in her own sharp-featured sort of way. You couldn’t help the snort that bubbled up.
“Respectfully, I think fashion is the least of my concerns right now, Anna.”
“Hm. Maybe,” she hummed, shrugged, and gave you a once-over that set your heart racing before turning her attention back to the group.
“Brienne!” You jumped, flinching away as Anna’s loud voice carried into your ear. In the distance, a hulking figure shifted and unfolded, moving to look up at the call. They were sitting on a big pile of cut logs, holding a stone cylindrical sharpener in one hand and a… sword… in the other. Anna waved, talking to you gently as you both watched the figure’s expression change into one of suspicion. She was handsome. Pale, with the lightest blonde lashes and brows, and eyes that sparkled even from that distance. They squinted, drawing frown lines across her face, as she straightened up in her spot. You tried desperately not to stare at her figure, but it was impossible. The deep blue ribbed shirt clung to her torso like a second skin, wrapping tightly around strong biceps and broad shoulders. It was tucked into muddy green cargo pants, offsetting the brightness of the steel that covered the toes of her dark boots. You tilted your head and watched as she glanced between you and Anna before she finally decided to shoot the woman a firm nod. Anna’s lips quirked up into a smile. “She was once soldier. Good woman - she will protect you if you’re in trouble. Saved me many many times.” Her blonde curls swished as she nodded to herself.
That was good to know, you reasoned. Everyone seemed quite strong. Tall, too. And pale. The camp was gorgeous, the people seemed mundane enough, and the company was… well. Your eyes drifted over to Anna’s side profile, a silhouette of soft dips and curves, and you couldn’t hide the attraction you felt even if you tried.
“Larissa, you know too. She is leader, xорошо?” You didn’t really know what ‘harasho’ meant, but the light intonation of her voice had you saying ‘Yeah’ anyway.
Then an arm was winding itself around yours, jostling the bag on your shoulder and the gun slung around Anna’s body. It rested against her back, hitting her thighs, and you were suddenly powerless to the way she steered you further down the gravel path. Toward the right, there was a makeshift driveway; a patch of land ripped up from the grass and replaced with gravel, soil, and rocks. The black truck made an appearance again, probably having been driven up from around the back, and you watched with curious eyes as Phasma busied herself with a few bags and boxes from the trunk. Jesus, she was fit… tall and lethal. A small grunt left her lips when she hauled two boxes up into her arms, never faltering or pausing. Damn. You found yourself getting lost in the sight of her legs in those cargo pants, filling them out, until Anna clicked her tongue.
“Lucifer is strange, but ultimately harmless. Do not worry, they are not naked under the robe.”
Lucifer? Naked under the what?
You were going to take a quick glance around, to find whatever the hell Anna was talking about, but there was no need. Some feet in front of you, lounging on a red and gold velvet chase, was a lithe figure. They were almost glowing in the reflection of the walkway lamps, with the deep crimson of a flowing silk robe offsetting the smooth pale planes of soft skin. One elbow was propped up on the arm of the chair, and you traced the folds of flowing sleeves up to a slim forearm, wrist, and a delicate hand. Slender fingers were curled under the curve of a pale cheek, and you felt your heartbeat speed up at the sight of soft features and  crystal eyes. And their hair, curled so perfectly into handsome shining ringlets of spun golden-web… goodness, they were…
“Luxurious,” you murmured, tilting your head as you watched the stranger chat with Larissa. She was standing over them, in front of the chase, and even at that height, you had a feeling that the one laying down was somehow a little bit taller. “Is Lucifer their real name?”
“Da,” Anna nodded, “little strange, no?”
“Yeah,” you gave her an odd look. “Strange as fuck.”
“Don’t get comfortable,” a voice growled from behind you, making you slip away from Anna’s hold and turn around. Phasma was walking past, holding a big bag under each arm. Her muscle was impressive, but dear god she was an asshole. You had to sort out that situation as quick as possible.
“Hey what’s your problem, man?” You spread your hands out at your sides before letting them slap against your thighs. “You picked me up, and while I’m grateful for that, I am, you didn’t have to-”
“Exactly,” she bit out as she whirled around and marched right back to you. Her breath was cool, washing lightly over your face, and she stood so close that your foreheads nearly touched. From that angle, looking up, you could reach out and trace the jagged line of her scar. It was quite attractive actually, even if her eyes narrowed as she watched you look at her. They were cold. Not an ounce of care.
“Don’t. Get. Comfortable.” Her lips twitched, carrying a silent threat.
“Okay,” Larissa’s voice, sing-songy and weary, cut into the conversation. “Why don’t we all take a moment to calm down, hm?” Her smile was blinding as she turned to you. One gloved hand hovered above Phasma’s right shoulder, but was instantly shrugged off the second it made contact. Her sneer didn’t fade even when she stepped back, eyes still flaming with anger. Larissa cleared her throat. “Y/n, you’re new here. Why don’t you and I have a little chat?”
Her expression, although kind, hid a sharpness that you didn’t think was wise to fuck around with. If Larissa was the leader, according to Anna, then it was her you had to charm. You didn’t really know why she was the top dog, especially because some of the other group members seemed more… abrasive… but clearly something about her was good enough to be the one in charge. And pissing her off, messing around with her people, was a one-way ticket to possibly turning into those fuckers lurking in the woods. So you didn’t really have a choice - and you didn’t really want one. No matter what, you’d stay. You’d be of some help. You’d stay on the soft grass, smelling the clean air. You’d become best friends with Larissa, the group would learn to like you, and you’d try not to combust when any of them looked your way.
Easier said than done though, of course. Especially when Larissa’s smile knocked down all of your reservations at once, in one big swing, and coaxed an obedient nod from your body.
“Okay. Yes. Sure.”
“Perfect,” Larissa’s grin, somehow, grew even wider.
“It’s getting late,” were Phasma’s parting words before she turned away and headed off toward two big wooden double doors.
You watched her strut without much thought, and found yourself on the other end of a staring Larissa. Her eyes were utterly striking in the evening light, and the outline of her face… a sight to be seen for a person as weary as you.
“So… is your group considered women only?” You murmured, peering up at her through your eyelashes.
Red lips twitched.
“Not intentionally. Though we have had the discussion before,” she contemplated her next words carefully, looking all over your face before resuming, “and we think it’s best if it’s just women. And Lucifer.”
“And Lucifer?” You still can’t get over that being their real name. Probably just picked out in a moment of edginess when they were a teen. Lucifer did sound cool, sort of bully-worthy. Like they were emo kid once upon a time.
“Lucifer is what many would refer to as non-binary. Not a man and not a woman. I hope that won’t be a problem?” Something flashed behind her eyes. Not a threat, but a warning. You couldn’t help but smile.
“Not at all. They and I are… one and the same,” you shrugged and adjusted the bag on your shoulder.
“How lucky I must be…,” someone purred from over your shoulder.
You tensed up, surprised by the closeness, and felt yourself grow a little weak at the tone. Like spiced honey, their voice was intense and smooth. You wanted to lap it up.
“Ah right on time for a proper introduction,” Larissa, ever the most efficient woman from what you could tell so far, found herself a golden opportunity. One hand shot out and gestured over to you, then to the person slinking around to your right. “Y/n this is Lucifer, one of the strongest members of our group. Lucifer and I make most of the big decisions, with the necessary input from everyone else. And Lucifer,” Larissa’s grin relaxed into a smile, “this is Y/n. Depending on our discussion of the rules, they may become a familiar face, so I suggest you play nice.”
You found that you couldn’t look to the side without short-circuiting. There was something.. something… about their aura that had you wanting to shy away and cower. It wasn’t the explosive intensity of Phasma or the consuming strangeness of Anna, or even the gentle but strong hand of Larissa… but instead a subtle sort of consumption. Utterly intriguing and fascinating - like they were put on the Earth to confuse humans. You didn’t even look at them and you could feel that. Didn’t even know them and you could feel that. Standing so close. So much body heat.
“It’s a pleasure,” they murmured, turning to you fully.
You swallowed, braced yourself, and looked up to your right.
Sweet holy Jesus. They were even more handsome up close. Just absolutely soft and glorious. And carrying the faint scent of… firewood? You cleared your throat.
“Um yeah- likewise. Hi.”
A flash of black, followed by measured footsteps in the grass, had all three of you shifting to see Jane walking past. Miranda was not too far behind, taking her time to cross the yard.
“Dinner is being prepared. Show face in the next 20 minutes or go to bed hungry.” Jane didn’t even spare you a glance before she disappeared behind the same doors Phasma had gone through.
“Thank you, Jane,” Larissa managed to call just before they closed behind her with a dull bang.
“Three moves…,” Miranda was muttering, holding the box for the chess set in one hand. “She beat me in three moves.”
“Oh it’s not hard. I would’ve beaten you in two,” another voice entered the fray, polite but amused. Jan, you recognized, as she sidled up between you and Larissa with a small smile on her deep red lips.
Miranda scoffed and turned to look at Anna, only to find that she was gone. One glance behind you revealed that she’d wandered over to Brienne, probably prompting her to go inside for dinner. You hummed, hiding the amusement of friendly banter. It had been so long since you felt even the smallest sense of normalcy. If they were so comfortable with each other, then it must have been a bit since they were all alone out in the world. You’d probably ask Larissa about that later - once everything was said and done.
“I would’ve beaten you in one,” Lucifer smirked as they pulled away and went walking inside. Had they been barefoot the entire time?
“That’s not even possible!” Miranda yelled, but the door was already shut. “...Is it?” She turned to Larissa, then to you, then back to Larissa.
“I don’t think so, Miranda,” Larissa smiled before looking at you. “Any chance you’re good at chess?”
Dear lord, having two sets of beautiful blue eyes on you was nerve-wracking, but you ignored the flush building up on your cheeks and nodded.
“Um yeah- it’s possible to beat someone in two moves. But it’s only black, I think.” You gave Miranda an apologetic smile and a shrug as she pouted.
“You will beat her next time Miranda,” Anna returned with Brienne in her wake. The sword she was sharpening earlier was still in her hands. “She cannot win forever.”
“I wouldn’t be so sure,” Brienne cut in, her voice strong and deep. Her mouth was pulled into a light frown, and you noticed the scar that cut through the upper lip on the right. From the time before, you suspected. Otherwise she’d be turned. “She beat me and Phasma one after the other.”
Miranda sighed, tsking beneath her breath.
“Then there’s no hope…” Goodness, she looked like a sad puppy.
“Why not?” It slipped out of your mouth before you could grab it.
And of course, all of the attention then dragged itself over to you. Five sets of sea-blue eyes, all gorgeous in the glow of the evening lamps, traced lines over your tired body. In comparison to them, you looked a sight. Obviously having been picked up from the side of the road, unclean and awkward, somewhat detached from society. In your bag? Not enough clothing and not enough supplies. In your belt, peeking out from beneath your shirt? A knife, dirty and growing dull. And in your eyes? Lurking sadness and horror - the same which probably lived in the women that were observing you.
Larissa, thank goodness, finally broke the lull of silence.
“Brienne and Phasma were in the military,” she said gently.
“Oh. That makes sense.” And it did - Jane must have been an intellectual force if she beat people that used to be in the military before the world ended. Though that made you wonder… “What branch?” You turned to Brienne, not really surprised that you had to look up to meet her eyes. It seemed you’d been adopted into a camp of skyscrapers. Though the sharpness of her eyes had you swallowing. “I mean- if you don’t mind me asking.”
She seemed to consider it, sizing you up, before saying, rather shortly, “SAS. Then Delta Force.”
You couldn’t hide the way your eyes widened.
“Oh.”
“Oh, indeed,” Larissa hummed. “But I think now would be a good time to head in, wouldn’t you say?” She spared her smile for everyone, meeting the gaze of each woman, before finally looking at you and raising her eyebrow.
It wasn’t really up to you, so you just shrugged and waited for Anna to say ‘Da, da, xорошо’ before heading in. Brienne followed after her, then Miranda, who was studying the back of the chess box, and Larissa, who started taking off her gloves. Jan, meanwhile, stayed where she was and kept her eyes on you. They were curious and deep, never-ending, and lined with mascara and eyeliner. Mascara and eyeliner that… well it suited her, but goodness it was certainly intense. Dark and shadowed, but beautiful nevertheless. You couldn’t look away.
“Jan Stevens,” she breathed and gave you her hand, elegant and admittedly quite charming. Her nails were painted a deep cherry red. Utterly flawless.
At the sight of it, you weren’t entirely sure what to do. Your palms were still dirty, and sort of calloused, and you didn’t want to… ruin her. So you hesitated, stared at it, looked back up at her, and found her kind smile to be unwavering.
“Go on,” Jan finally whispered, giving her hand a pointed look, and you fell prey in an instant.
Quickly, you shot out to gently cup her hand into your own, and gave it a gentle shake. You felt strangely compelled to bring it up to your lips, but you weren’t sure that meeting a stranger in an apocalypse really called for such formalities. Even though you yearned to feel her skin beneath your mouth. It wasn’t proper; though you did think that Jan’s expression fell just a little bit. Like she was excited. Like she wanted you to kiss her hand.
“Y/n. It’s nice to meet you.”
“Likewise,” she purred, looking you up and down, before turning toward the door. “Come quickly now. If we’re late, Jane will send us off to bed without dinner. And we wouldn’t want that.”
It probably would have been wise to consider and contemplate the fact that you were in a stranger’s camp, with a stranger’s group… but the saucy little wink that Jan threw over her shoulder sent a deep blush crawling up your cheeks. And just like that, without fail, you were one of the flesh-eaters… caught in the pretty paws of eight different beasts.
