About the ROs getting together? SAME here! If they end up together when MC dosen't romance them I always feel like MC is the third wheel or even worse, as you put it, a "home wreaker". It just feels like the two ROs were ment to be together but because MC flirted/pursued one of them they got sidetracked..worse in some if I've read there was the concept of "soulmate"...so basically the two ROs were soulmates, but then MC happened, so they stay platonic soulmates instead of "upgrading" (🤣) to romantic soulmates as they do otherwise. It make me feel like MC is stealing away their significant other or that the ROs together are the canon couple instead RO+MC is the fanfic one 🤣🤣. No judging who likes the ROs together, I understand the appealing of seeing loved characters being happy (even if I do strongly believe that happiness is not strictly dependant on being in relationship with someone), and in if in which you can choose to push the ROs together (they don't end up together automatically) or the ROs have to get with someone ( for political marriage for example like Kingdom and Empire) I don't feel that way. Sorry for the rant 😅 it's just the first time I found someone that feels the same way!

With the amount of people coming out to me about our shared dislike in ROs getting together, we should just start a club at this point. I'm thinking "ROs Together? Nah."

Perhaps there are more people at there who feel this way. Maybe they hide amongst those who like the idea of it, feeling horrible that they dislike ROs getting together.

But I definitely agree with your points! I have been answering asks like this all day so I'm somewhat exhausted, but I'll give my general opinions for you anyway :)

I don't like it if ROs were meant to be soulmates if MC does not romance them. If there is an obvious chemistry where you would feel like a homewrecker, I don't believe they should be ROs.

They don't get the upgrade and remain platonic friends if MC romances one of them. Like, imagine if you have a phone and you don't have the latest updates. It is laggy, slow, and you get annoyed quickly. There's obviously tension and it feels like you are in a in-between, almost. That's basically what it feels like with ROs who are interested in each other.

And yes, you should not be required to be in a relationship to be happy!! Happiness can be from anything--family, friends, pets, hobbies--and characters don't need love to be happy!

This applies to real life, too ;)

and it hurts because hes no longer his mother’s constant.

sally has paul now, she has paul to help her through her issues and she has a child that doesnt get expelled from every school shes been in

and percy has his family. but its not the same. annabeth has always been there, but she doesnt understand, thalia has been through the same childhood as percy but she doesnt know what its like to watch the bad go to good in the same household, grover has always listened but he just doesnt understand

because hes happy estelle has the life he always wanted. hes glad his mother has the life she always wanted. but hes not in that life. because hes moving out soon. and hes no longer his mothers son, at least not in the way he was before

Hornigold's Izzy was the worst, of course. A version of himself that never escaped that terrible place, who lived his life as little more than an object. He still has nightmares about all the things Baz told them, about all the things he didn't.

It doesn't really surprise him, after the first ones, not at its root. To be Izzy Hands is to be someone's after all, though seeing his own face on someone so fundamentally different to him never gets less weird. The people who these other Izzys attached themselves too often left him with more questions than answers. Jack's Izzy, he can understand, from a certain view, though the man himself felt like a fever dream. The less said about Stede's Izzy the better, he's never going to forgive him for the ideas he put in his Stede's head.

Then there was Sam's Izzy.

The first thing anyone noticed about him was that he was happy. He smiled and laughed without thought, and went through life with an ease Izzy didn't think he had ever felt. The crew took to him immediately, accepting him in a way they never did the other Izzys, and certainly not their own. They prodded him and asked him endless questions, and he took every touch without a flinch and answered every question without a hint of a grumble. This Izzy was free. He was open, unburdened, trusting. He was happy.

Sam's Izzy was the one that hurt the most to see. He could accept the worst that Hornigold could've offered, that he would have suffered and been broken. It was infinitely harder to see that he had a chance to be this happy. That it slipped through his fingers.

He's never looked back before, but now? Seeing what might've been? He can't stop himself from considering the possibility that maybe he made the wrong choice back then, going with Ed.

this whole thing being abt rage is also really interesting. I feel like it comes up so much in fiction as a motive because it's the one emotion that's unifyingly restless while everything else can be petrifying, and just personally nothing hits like impotent rage for me, esp. with teen characters, esp. with characters whose rage is stoked by Someone Else to further that Someone Else's cause. like you'll have done all that in a bout of passion and when you're done you look around you and nothing has changed. those sentiments don't get quelled by being satisfied. righteousness withdrawal is a horrible thing to intentionally drag someone into, least of all just some kids.

after the whole reveal in tsoh, the next time thalia sees into jason is when zagreus takes him out as a hunting dog and the two run into artemis and the hunters. zag and artemis decide to gang up together in a joint hunt (zag's not a boy and jason is technically a dog so it's chill) and thalia is just swallowing around regrets and loathing and quiet dislike of zagreus because much like his father, zag sees jason as a pet more than a person but jason is so happy to be sprinting around in the woods, no shoes, no armor, no weapon but his teeth and lightning stained hands

he clearly understands words and he communicates in rough choppy sign that thalia doesn't understand and growls whenever anyone gets to close to zag, including artemis, and she's gritting her teeth, holding back words - how long has she known, why hasn't she done anything, who else knows - but all the while artemis is blind, or at least acting like it, to thalia's internal trembles

she treats jason like he's zag's pet - which he is, for all purposes here, a hunting dog and little else. she throws him the scraps they use to treat the dogs, dried off-cuts of meat and undesirable vegetable leftovers. he's a pup, he's a pet, he's a dog, he's a wolf - well-trained and vicious, crouched low to the ground with blood across his mouth, and thalia's heart is sinking
