Prepare for mass censorship. Prepare for LGBTQ characters to become non existent as long as Trump has the reigns. Prepare to be secretive about your interests. He wants to enact Hayes Code 2.0 in project 2025.

Will we even get to see part two of Wicked the musical? Will James Cameron get to finish the Sully family saga?

I fear what the Heritage foundation has planned for media at large but "liberal" and discussions of queer themes and the planet dont align with the agenda at all.

I hate this timeline. Get me off.

Sometimes, it feels like we're living in the age of cowardice when it comes to queer representation.

On the one hand, some things we see onscreen today would've been unthinkable at one point in time.

However, there is this pervasive feeling of dancing around characters' queerness, timidly alluding to it via post-release interviews, and wishy-washy "up to your interpretation" characterizations.

"Be grateful you have anything at all," some might say. But I want more!!

I'm tired of this stupid dance, tired of characters who are obviously queer not being allowed to get too "out of bounds" for fear of the moderate/conservative straight viewers.

I know the state of LGBTQ rights seems in danger of rapidly declining, but that's exactly why I want raw, authentic, tender, joyous queerness to be normalized onscreen.

TL;DR This "abundant tame and toothless, sanitized queer rep in media" moment we are living in is getting me down.

I feel like this is deeply important for anyone and everyone to see. It’s introduction level, and good for teens/young adults/people who in general know very little about the history of film or pop culture

Remember, the Hayes Code was created to censor films in ways that reinforce conventional Christian morality. So the picture of 50s America being discussed is not just a false image, it's a censored image. The reactionary fantasy of prelapsarian American life is actually the product of censorship.

Duck Soup at 90

Hard to believe that ‘Duck Soup’ was released 90 years ago today.It is an American pre-Code musical black comedy film written by Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby, with additional dialogue by Arthur Sheekman and Nat Perrin, directed by Leo McCarey. and think there's competition. this woman wrote a FORTY page, SINGLE SPACED novel about spirk BEFORE WE LANDED ON THE FUCKING MOON... just banging this out on a fucking typewriter

just to show her friends!! she was rawdogging that fanfiction, no ff.net, no aff.net, no ao3! she went so insane she wrote 40 pages just for own friends to teehee about. we only know about it because spirk drove SO MANY other people insane, it was passed friend group to friend group across the COUNTRY just to be published in a zine without her consent... in 1987. this fic lasted in private, yet intense, celebration... for 19 years.

do you understand the type of RAVENOUS people had to be to have NO FUCKING INTERNET and keep a fic circulating for two decades???

i love sasunaru. no ship can match their... everything. but in terms of like... sheer contact-high insanity, spirk is on another level.

like spirk was driving people insane 13 whole years before the movie came out where spock died trying to press his hand against kirk's... some of the best spirk content had yet to come... and yet the girls went wild... truly wild already

sasunaru i love you but... like... spirk has lasted entire lifetimes. sasunaru has taken over half of my life... and yet we all know there is a woman in some retirement home remembering jerking off to a spirk fanzine before half of america even knew gay people existed. it's not the same.

I think films need more sex, more freaks, more filmmakers willing to break this sudden hayes code 2.0 we've found ourselves in. Fuck purity culture. Fuck anyone forcing conformity. This is supposed to be the land of the free. Stop clutching your pearls and break them.
