any dave music hcs? :) my playlist for him mostly consists of relatively popular rock music. besides wacky but awesome garageband beats, i personally think he’d be a rocknroll radio hits kinda guy, at least for pre-sburb dave, i don’t think he’d have as much freedom to really explore music the way he wants before then. some of my favorites for him are all mixed up (311), superman’s dead (our lady six), bound for the floor (local H), everything to everyone (everclear), inside out (eve 6) and birds (butthole surfers). i also think he’d like metal too! particularly nu metal. even if mixing music and rapping is an outlet for him, i see him relating to these types of songs a lot and maybe at the time when his #ironiccoolguy persona is most prevalent + affecting his interests/personality heavily, he’s embarrassed about admitting his popular favorites b/c it’s not cool to him to like what’s mainstream. but you know character arc! and besides when the earth explodes no music is really popular anymore LOL. btw i liked your davejade music posts ^_^ so i’m very curious if you have any thoughts for dave music on his own!
one of the first things we know about dave is “You like to rave about BANDS NO ONE'S EVER HEARD OF BUT YOU” but its never brought up again. so i can see him having a bit of a punky existence. but its pretty impossible to list bands that people havent heard about but him. it doesnt mean he can’t like known acts. pink floyd are one of the most well known music artists of all time but i think he would like it for instance
but of those known acts i know his ass does not listen to fallout boy or whatever
idk dave he strikes me as someone who listens to both brian eno and death grips but at the same time theres a lot of stuff i CANT see him listening to
i think he probably likes beastie boys. paul’s boutique (1989) is probably one of his top albums. deltron 3030 (2000) too. both experimental hiphop, paul’s boutique utilizing plunderphonics while deltron 3030 is a bit more epic and psychedelic.
i think both wouldve changed his life. paul’s boutique for for his pragmatic bent (sampling)
and deltron 3030 on the psychological / reflection / journey / listen and close your eyes rock opera side (“It is a rap opera concept album set in a dystopian year 3030. The album's story casts Del in the role of Deltron Zero, a disillusioned mech soldier and interplanetary computer prodigy rebelling against a 31st-century New World Order. In a world where evil oligarchs suppress both human rights and hip-hop, Del fights rap battles against a series of foes, becoming Galactic Rhyme Federation Champion. Del the Funky Homosapien's lyrics veer from serious social commentary to humor to epic sci-fi battles, while producer Dan the Automator creates an eerie and dense atmosphere.”)
Tumblr media
come on man
nmesh dream sequins is another album i can see him listen to, the cream of the crop for experimental vaporwave (the type of slowing samples in vaporwave was a technique pioneered by dj screw who i think dave would also dig, as it essentially manipulates time and thats Cool). probably likes oneohtrix point never too, an experimental electronic artist who also took inspiration from screw
maybe a bit of biting tongues, one of my favorites. he couldve been led to it going down the eno hole. probably his favorite album being recharge (1989)
as for rock i’m pretty sure dave strikes me as a psychedelic / experimental rock type of dude. so yeah pink floyd is still on the table especially early with syd barrett (the piper at the gates of dawn (1967) and a saucer full of secrets (1968)). but i think he can like later after that (of COURSE he feels drawn to the song ‘time’ lol i bet he’d want to replicate the atmosphere of the song’s beginning in his own stuff). he likes this kinda sound. he i can definitely see him being a ween fan for sure, especially quebec (2003) or their satire art/prog rock album the mollusk (1997) —the latter of which i could see him bonding with jade over DEFINITELY just listen to the titular song — but really the whole discography. or a zappa fan. maybe a dip into metal if its experimental or funky like primus or zillatron (bootsy collins alias)
i have to mention that these are all bands i like to some degree because to know what they sound like and if they fit dave ive had to listen to them lol. but yeah so that could put some bias into it and theres surely more stuff he would listen to i dont know but heres a portion of what i see from where i am
the common denominator between all the music i talked about was that theyre experimental

okay as a person who was raised on new wave but has gotten into goth recently. how the ever loving fuck did tiktokers think rock lobster was goth. how??? they out there listening to love shack and own private idaho and somehow thinking that was goth???😧
couple factors
tiktok kids do not seek out context generally. this is how we got any/all pronouns cartman. they engage with south park based only on the sound clips that become memes on tiktok. similarly, i think they just heard the song and accepted it at face value and didn't look into who the b-52d are or notice that these are the same people who made love shack.
goth is a very broad (group of) genre(s). rock lobster admittedly sounds like it could have been made by the cramps.
goth dad (@awfullysinister) has admitted to playing it at the clubs he djs for years
there are a lot of bands whose goth status is contested like strawberry switchblade and even the fucking cure.
in my opinion rock lobster on its own is goth purely because a lot of goths like it. same with strawberry switchblade even tho stylistically they're more like an early ancestor to vaporwave.
goth classification in general is quite complex tbh there's a lot of nuance. imo its more of a vibe check. and rock lobster passed the goth vibe check to those kids.
the blind leading the blind is kinda the guiding principle of tiktok and none of those kids talk to people older than them.
now now it turned into drama. hot takes coming.
i think a lot of them have tricked themselves into thinking that gothery is objective and easily quantifiable and not largely vibes-based.
they've tricked themselves into thinking that "music based subculture" means the music itself IS the subculture nothing else that grew out of the goth scene is important (they do this while stanning elvira and collecting bones and ofc wearing tradgoth apparel but ignore that doublethink is at play here)
i'm blaming the influencers with amazon affiliate links here. they're seeing girlies posting their looks plus a shopping list for how to replicate their life exactly plus affiliate links (or worse, tiktok shop links ew) and it doesn't pass the sniff check for them, but because they don't talk to people older than them and because the version of goth that's presented in mainstream media is stripped of its anticonsumerist ideals, they only way they can think to counter it is to parrot "goth is a music-based subculture" back and forth forever
not thinking about how the fashion being antique and vintage and reused and diy and gloomy and spooky are extensions of the ideals put forth in the music, as applied to a more everyday form of self expression.
they get that goth isn't something that you can buy but they don't know how to articulate that
um in case you haven't noticed, tiktok, a highly trend-based and consumerism driven platform, yanno with all its influencer shills and brand accounts and ads disguised as content and clones of each other and viral song of the week and they've recently baked shopping right into the app itself and every other video you see has that damn "eligible for commission" badge under it, where everybody is copying each other to sell shit or as an audition to sell shit, just might not quite line up with goth ideals.
which imo is more important than the music but obv the platform itself doesn't really lend itself to putting that into practice. again frankly tiktok as a platform is fundamentally incompatible with the goth subculture.
ok back to rock lobster bc the politics have been cut out all these kids have to back up their sense of gothenticity is music based subculture. meaning when they find out they've been dancing to a song that isn't even technically goth, that's really fucking embarrassing.
cue one zillion identical "um we can still listen to other genres and still be goth" tiktoks. which, like, true. still funny that you were preaching that shit while dancing to the boomer equivalent of like. idk old town road. what does the fox say. i don't fuckin know.
anyway now everybody's having a damn identity crisis calling each other posers and elitists and the influencers are laughing all the way to the bank. also setting their makeup haul videos to rob zombie who while liked by many goths is DEF not goth.
oh yeah and dollskill have been making the sponsored content rounds too. because this wasn't already enough of a shitshow

So I've been massively obsessed with listening to FNAF songs lately I'm definitely very mentally well about it, ah. anywAYYY
Music headcanons about what the egos listen to??? 😁 Feel free to do as many as you want to, but I'm most curious about Murdock, Illinois, engineer Mark, and Wilford. (Also, I have some idea of what's in ur brain with Dark, but any more details would be welcome~) (Also also, Y a n c y)
Murdock - Industrial and Aggrotech are his shit, but also very much into Power Metal and Rock, the heavier the better. Appreciates Classical and Jazz, though prefers songs that sound more brooding and ominous in both cases.
Illinois - Definitely listens to and enjoys all sorts of cultural folk songs and the like native to the places he visits in his travels. Indie, Blues, and Jazz round out his typical tastes. People who don't know him tend to assume he'll like Country music, but he can't say he cares much for it.
Wilford - Disco is a very obvious choice here and it is true, but Wilford's been around for quite a while and has an appreciation for pretty much all types of music. He does, however, have quite a strong fondness specifically for Electroswing.
Engineer - Listens to a lot of sub-genres of Electronic and EDM. Like Wilford, a big fan of Electroswing, and also likes Chiptune a lot. Will put on heavier music like Industrial when he's angry or frustrated and trying to work something out. If he gets too strung out, though, he'll find some sort of rain or - especially after the Wormhole Incident - heartbeat ambience to put on and go decompress. Preferably with the Captain nearby.
Yancy - Musicals is really on the nose but also so very apt. Also Rock'n'Roll, Rockabilly, and Doo-wop, considering the whole 'greaser' vibes he's got. Also likes some sub-genres of Rock and Alternative. Doesn't actively dislike any genre of music, even if it's something that isn't to his tastes. Boy just loves music too much.
Damien/Dark - Classical, Oldies, and some Blues and Jazz are all very obvious and fitting picks (all moony and lovesick), but only very close friends and family know that he also adores Metal, with Symphonic Metal being his favorite of the genre. You'd be hard-pressed to catch him listening to it, though, especially after the events of the Party. It reminds him a little too much of a certain someone who used to listen to and play it with him...
Bonus (cause his music taste jumped out at me):
Bing - Vaporwave and Chiptune are his favorites, but he likes almost all kinds of Electronic and EDM. Always surprises people when they find him listening to Industrial music and its sub-genres, of which Dark Electro is his go-to.
[Partially me projecting really hard here, partially honestly striking me as making sense, but I can see pretty much all the Egos enjoying Post Rock. Some more than others, and some only when they want something to help them wind down, but still.]

Kloktober 2023 Day 20
Original character or self-insert
I'm not much for OC content but I do have an OC called Molly Rttengerlrtn that I created at the beginning of the year. And today's prompt is a great opportunity to introduce more people to her :) She's a silly little girl. <3
Below is an illustration of Molly, drawn by my friend! This entry also features his OC, Klokateer N°479 :D
Tumblr media
It had started so long ago. Four years ago and 6 months with 2 weeks and 1 day to be exact. Molly had been dragged by her friends to this metal band, Dethklok or something. Apparently they were big but Molly wasn’t really into metal. She liked vaporwave music and 8-bit music, so when Dethklok started playing, she was convinced it wasn’t for her.
In her boredom, she tried to hunt for any signs of homoeroticism within the band. If she wasn’t going to enjoy the music, at least she could try to entertain herself with some good old fanservice.
Unfortunately, these Dethklok guys were really devoted to their instruments, barely paying attention to each other. Vocalist and guitarist were such a classic duo with lots of tension in between them, however neither the huge black-haired guy or the tall blonde seemed to care about anything besides looking hardcore as hell.
She did notice, however, that there were two guitarists in the band, which piqued her interest just a little bit. Wasn’t sharing instruments totally gay? It also, sort of seemed like the brunet guy was copying the poses of the tall blonde, though she wasn’t sure. From then on, she zoomed in on the guitarists and stopped paying attention to fuck-else.
And then, the blonde one started playing a solo and she could not help but gasp. No, she didn’t care about the solo, that wasn’t the point. It was the fact that the brunet was looking at the blond with almost bitterness in his eyes. Bitterness and…jealousy? The brunet looked away and Molly could not be entirely sure because of the distance but she could’ve sworn he had rolled his eyes. And she felt it.
Like the second coming of Jesus.
Like the ascension to Nirvana.
She had found her new life’s purpose.
And it was…to ship these two guys!
Tumblr media
From then on, it had all happened so fast. She urged her friend to tell her more about them and learned that their names were Skwisgaar and Toki, and that they were Scandinavians. She also learnt that Skwisgaar was the band’s womanizer and also the most popular amongst women. On the other hand, Toki was the youngest band member and also regarded as ‘the cute one’. All this information was incredibly fascinating and only fed her growing obsession.
When she got home, she started watching band interviews and found out that Skwisgaar and Toki’s English was pretty poor and that Skwisgaar was quite arrogant vs Toki’s more friendly manner. She took notes, she studied it all. 8 hours of footage and no sleep later, Molly felt like she was starting to get a grasp of these guys. However, the music was a fundamental part of their relationship so she started listening to her albums. Turns out, it was a lot more bearable now that she was doing it with a specific goal in mind. And, man, was the way their guitars complemented each other absolutely gay.
She kept researching for the rest of the weekend: theories, fanforums, articles, random comments under their performance videos, anything she could find. She even found out there was an already shipping fanbase and that the name of the pairing was Skwistok.
On Monday morning she faked having a fever so she didn’t have to go to school. As soon as her mother left the room, she grabbed her laptop and started typing furiously. A few hours later, Molly posted her first Skwistok fanfiction online. It was a short little story about Toki having a secret crush on Skwisgaar. It was a massive success, with commenters asking for more and linking to their own stories and drawings.
She had found her people.
From then on, Molly kept writing more and more and befriending fellow Skwistoks, with whom she shared her own theories and ideas about the nordic guitarists. SSoon enough, she realized the Skwistok community was not only pretty big, but also that a lot of them lived in California. And so, Molly decided to found the first Skwistok club ever, based in LA. They met every second Sunday of the month to discuss their findings and artworks.
Life continued, some of them grew apart, some of them died (Dethklok fans died a LOT during concerts), but new people joined too. Molly finished high school and got a part job at a smoke shop while taking Scandinavian studies during the day. Even when life was busy, she always had time for Skwistok.
One day, while looking at her commenter’s section on her latest fic, she noticed someone under the name of ‘anon479’ had written the following:
Hey skwistokfujo420
Your works are great.
I have something you might like.
Message me.
Curiosity getting the better of her, Molly immediately opened the commenter’s profile and wrote him a ‘hi :3’. Less than 10 minutes later, 479 replied to her, claiming to be Klokateer for Dethklok and that he could give him inside information on Skwisgaar and Toki if she agreed to write really specific stories about Murderface.
Understandably skeptical, Molly asked for proof that he indeed worked for the most famous band in the world. 479 shortly after sent her a picture of Toki’s underwear drawer and Skwisgaar sleeping in the infamous Mordhaus hot tub, guitar on his lap. He claimed that he was putting his life at risk with this, but he was truly desperate.
It was a no-brainer, Molly accepted and 479 sent a long detailed list of kinks that he wanted to see Murderface subjected to. In exchange, he would report any interaction between Skwisgaar and Toki he had witnessed, as well as send any pictures she wanted. Molly asked why he had chosen her out of the hundreds of Dethklok shippers out there and 479 said that he had been scurrying the fandom for a long time but didn’t like any of the Murderface content she saw. In his desperation, he had started reading stories of other ships. When he stumbled with one of Molly’s fics, he grew enamored with how perfectly in-character he was, and thus decided to deposit all his dreams and hopes in her. Molly was flattered, but mostly she felt very lucky.
And like that, started the most productive business relationship of Molly’s entire life. They talked every two weeks, in which Molly would deliver her latest story featuring Murderface and a brand new kink, while 479 would dump all the footage he had been able to collect, as well as gossip on Skwisgaar and Toki’s lives. It was fascinating really, she was now able to see facets of the men that she would’ve never gotten to otherwise. Evidently, it affected her writing as her characterization now had to take in account Skwisgaar and Toki’s behavior behind the public lens. She didn’t tell anyone where she was getting it, though, both because she knew they wouldn’t believe her and also because she didn’t want to share.
Eventually, 479 and Molly became friends too, casually chatting about their everyday lives.
skwistokfujo420: yoooo
anon479: Hello.
skwistokfujo420: whatcha up 2
anon479: Just cleaning some coworker’s blood. He got accidentally impaled by Sir Toki last night.
skwistokfujo420: oh noo :((
skwistokfujo420: was he cute while doing it at least? :3
anon479: He panicked for about 30 seconds until Murderface tripped with the blood. And then they all started making fun of him.
skwistokfujo420: LOL
anon479: It gave me a new idea for a story.
skwistokfujo420: oh??
anon479: I’ll send the concept later.
skwistokfujo420: oki
skwistokfujo420: a costumer just said my skwistok shirt is rlly cool :3
anon479: Is it the purple one?
skwistokfujo420: nop, the pink one
anon479: Oh…the purple one is my favorite.
anon479: I gotta go, Sir Nathan is screaming that his chips are too salty.
skwistokfujo420: bye bye!
anon479: Talk to you later.
Molly put her phone back in her pocket and glanced at the time. With delight, she realized her shift was almost over, so she packed her things and waved his coworkers goodbye.
The customer that had praised her shirt earlier was sitting at a bench right by the entrance. She waved at Molly, walking up to her in a hurry. “Hi, I wanted to ask you about something, if that’s ok.”
Molly raised her eyebrows and then readjusted her glasses. “Sure.”
The girl glanced to the sides and then leaned in to say. “I’m a Skwistok shipper too…” She pulled back hesitating before talking again. “I heard there’s a group in LA…do you know anything about it?”
Molly’s face turned solemn. “I might. But I need to make sure you’re not a spy.” Over the years, Skwistok antis had tried to get in the club for their own wicked purposes so Molly had developed a security test before letting anyone new in.
Nervously, the girl stood straight. “I’m ready.”
Inhaling, Molly took a long look at the girl. She had long brown hair, wore oval-shaped glasses and was dressed all-in-black. “Favorite Skwistok fact?”
“That Skwisgaar accepted Toki into the band!”
“Top or bottom Toki?”
“Both is good, but I prefer top!”
“Dom or sub Skwisgaar?”
“Dom all the way!”
“Is Skwistok mutual or unreciprocated?”
“It’s complicated but it’s mutual! They’re meant to be!”
“Name your favorite Skwistok fic!”
“Skwisgaar’s Not Good, Very Bad Time with Tentacles and Other Kinks by jizzgaar!”
Molly smirked. That was her friend’s epic Skwistok erotica. “Any Skwistok merch?”
The girl searched in her backpack and pulled out a Skwistok pin.
“Stand down!” Molly said and the girl stood straight again. “What’s your name, soldier?”
“C-Clara!” The girl stammered, her eyes on the front.
“Well, Clara…” Molly shoved a card inside her hand. “Hope to see you this Saturday.”
Clara looked down at the card, where the exact address and time for the bi-monthly Skwistok club meeting would take place. She gasped with excitement, her free hand covering her mouth, eyes welling up with tears. “Thank you…”
Smiling, Molly patted her shoulder and turned around. “Skwistok canon!” She shouted as she walked away.
“Skwistok canon!” Clara repeated behind her.
Molly rubbed her hands, an impish grin on her face. The Skwistok family had gained a new member.

FF7 Characters' Taste in Music Headcanons: Part 2 (Non-playable Characters)
Sephiroth: Classical, if he's picking anything, though he finds it equal measures off-putting and relaxing, so it kind of just leaves him neutral. Also, the deeper he descended into madness, the more he developed a taste for metal.
President Shinra: Dad rock
Rufus: Hip hop. Thinks it makes him cool and rebellious. Imagines he could be the next Eminem.
Elena: Vaporwave and Scandinavian pop. Follows Eurovision every year.
Reno: Classic punk like The Clash, The Sex Pistols. Also ska and 90s rock like Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters.
Rude: Smooth jazz or reggae, depending on his mood.
Tseng: Instrumental world music
Elmyra: Folk and Celtic. A bit of bluegrass. Also listens to a lot of evening public radio shows.
Scarlet: Sexy high-end bar music. Basically the genre "Scarlet's Theme" is.
Palmer: Unironically listens to Kids Bop
Heidegger: Doesn't listen to music that much. Mostly listens to sports talk shows if he has anything on.
Hojo: Static/white noise/ambient if he feels like he must have something on. Sometimes puts on classical to further unnerve his specimens, big Clockwork Orange vibes. Incidentally, this is why Sephiroth listens to classical since it's the music he grew up with.

Was tagged by @rivetgoth to list my nine favorite albums right now. This is going to be some amalgamation of all-time favorites and stuff I've revisited lately with newer (i.e. within the last couple of years) fixations -- neither an exhaustive list nor a snapshot of the specific moment. Here are just some albums I like and have been thinking about!
Public Memory - Elegiac Beat: I know I've been annoying about them lately. I've been a fan since their first album, but when I listened to this album for the first time last fall it was one of those love-at-first-listen moments. Like literally the first few notes gave me intense goosebumps and I knew I was in for a major treat. I adore the ultra-spooky downtempo sound and the dub influences, and I love how so many of the songs flow into each other. The result is extremely cohesive and artfully executed. Favorite song: "Tall in My Room"
1000 Eyes - Duality: This is the newest one I've listened to multiple times. More spooky downtempo stuff, which you will learn is a common theme in my favorites. This one leans more ambient and is mostly instrumental. It exists in the same space as Silent Hill music essentially, which makes sense because 1000 Eyes worked on the soundtrack to the game Signalis -- one of my two favorite survival horror games of the last few years. The only problem is that if I'm not careful I will fall asleep listening to this, haha. Favorite song: "Affirmation of Null"
My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult - Confessions of a Knife: I saw them live a couple of weeks ago and so I've dusted this one off a couple of times recently. I think most industrial fans would say this is TKK's most popular album. It's nearly perfect; there are only a couple of songs on it that I don't love. Favorite songs: "The Days of Swine and Roses," "Waiting for Mommie"
George Clanton - 100% Electronica: I WILL BE seeing him again this weekend, so we're about to listen to a bunch of George Clanton again! If I had to choose a favorite album of his then I guess this would be it, but Slide is a really really close second. Actually it's almost too close to call. Most would classify him as vaporwave, but I think people who aren't fans of the genre would like him because he mostly just makes pop music that sounds like it's from the '80s and '90s. I wore this album out in 2019 after I had worn out Slide and needed to move on to more of the same. Last time I saw him live I got to meet him, and he was wonderfully charming and funny. Favorite songs: "Bleed," "Warmspot," "Never Late Again"
Sacred Skin - The Decline of Pleasure: Sacred Skin is my new Drab Majesty -- I basically proselytize about them to anyone who will listen, lol. Like I imagine how I feel about certain pop-driven darkwave bands is how Christians feel about Jesus. This album has been out for a couple of years, but I still listen to it maybe once a month or so because it's pretty much flawless. I especially recommend them to fans of Tears for Fears and Duran Duran. Favorite songs: "Far Away," "Alive in the Night"
Drab Majesty - The Demonstration: Ah hell, might as well list them too. Here's another flawless album that I still listen to semi-regularly even though it's seven years old now. When I first listened to them (it was actually the song "The Foyer" that hooked me) I couldn't believe how they sounded so much like an amalgamation of my favorite classic gothy bands -- like if the Cure, Depeche Mode, and Cocteau Twins all collaborated. This is a concept album about the Heaven's Gate cult, for added fun! Favorite song: "Dot in the Sky"
Night Sins - Violet Age: I was listening to this obsessively at the same time I was listening to Sacred Skin obsessively. At the time the closest goth event to me was in Tulsa, which is a fucking nightmare of a 2+ hour drive from where I live, so my favorite thing to do on my way home was queue up this album right after the Sacred Skin album. The association lingers. I've waxed poetic about Night Sins recently so there's no need to restate all of that. I just really love their hooks and how unusually swingy a lot of their songs are. Favorite song: "Corium"
Body of Light - Bitter Reflection: I like a lot of songs from their earlier albums, but their newest release is so good and so consistent. It has a beautiful melancholic and atmospheric vibe that sets it apart. I actually preordered this on vinyl on a whim and was so glad that I did when it finally came out. Favorite song: "Never Ever"
Underworld - dubnobasswithmyheadman: I'd feel stupid if I didn't include it. This album is 30 years old and is generally lauded by gen X former ravers everywhere. I am a millennial and have never technically been to a rave (unless Happyland Music Fest counts), but I also love it very much. I've been listening to this since 2017 and it's still what I put on when I need to do some mindlessly repetitive work or just need to kill an hour and 12 minutes -- both somewhat common occurrences. A few of their albums are notably excellent, but this will probably always be my favorite. Favorite songs: "Dark & Long," "M.E."
As usual, I will not tag anyone specifically, but do it if you want!

Character I adopted from https://www.furaffinity.net/user/asthmatic/ I'm naming them Jelly Rave, which is 2 name suggestions I got that I really liked combined together. (Jelly as in GRAPE.) Can be just called "Rave" or "Jelly". :)
He is ftm trans, he/him pronouns only! Dragon/Fox hybrid. He loves vaporwave, hyperpop, and other music you can dance to. HATES sad music, even if it's a good song he will refuse to listen to it.
I'm gonna use him as a positive vent OC, I think!

⚠️ READ: Please do not repost/reupload any of my art here or to any other platform, or I will be forced to do anything to get it annihilated.
Vijay's theme playlist.
Netrunner His main theme song represents his hobby and profession: being a netrunner. ever since he knows how to use a computer he's living 50% of his time on the net, exploring, discovering, reading, understanding the net and all its facettes, always learning something new ever since he got his cyberdeck. He uses it for fun as much as he does use it for work. Sometimes simultaneously. He loves recreating the interface and his own is a fully Vaporwave-y world in bright neons, with grids and typical Vaporwave art icons. The sound of the song is like his character: friendly with a Vaporwave-y touch, showing he's got a warm soul and is rather playful and cheery than dark and mysterious.
Malware Injection sounds more professional, like when he's working serious business now, ready to infiltrate through the net. He knows his way around active defense programs when he tries to enter data fortresses in different ways, knows how to rewrite codes, cloak himself, even create chameleon programs to avoid to get caught and uploads daemons to breach easily into systems for deleting data or mine it simultaneously to get all the information he can find. It's addictive and thrilling.
Damage can be seen as his battle theme. He's a pro level netrunner and capable of inflicting serious damage to his enemies via hacking their (cyberware) systems (he is a good gunslinger in real life as well btw). Most of the time he uses non lethal quickhacks and supports his teammates rather than taking active action in fights. He plays with his enemies causing several weapon glitches, system resets, reboot optics and overheating. No matter what he does; it's definitely some kind of damage. And if he wants to he can be dead serious and cause huge damage as well, therefore 'I'm the damage". The song has a sort of threatening melody. What V says, he means and will do.
Synapse Burnout is another battle theme song that tells he's no casual netrunner and capable to do lethal damage if he needs to. When he does, it hits unexpectedly. One moment you were fine, the next your synapses are burning out bringing you a painful end as your brain gets deep fried.
System Malfunction serves as the song for his almost never showing dark side. Even his system can malfunction if he loses control over it (gets or let himself get hacked). When it does, it sounds like this song. He did actions in the past where he clearly wasn't himself and that he regrets having done. He knows that his netrunner abilities are a powerful weapon once you know how it really works, but he does not fully make use of it. It is dangerous and can make you feel almost untouchable. Therefore he fears it will consume him one day if he makes use of it. He gained full control over it but he senses there's something locked away in the depths of his mind lingering there, waiting to be released to inflict serious damage, to kill, sounding exactly as brutal and hard like this song shows. He also senses there's something in the net that wants to make him do again what he did in the past. It's subtle but Vijay clearly senses it unable to make out its source. And it frightens him because he noticed the signal gets stronger with every year passing by he spends in Night City.
Memory Upload is the song for the good moments. Moments he treasures by uploading pictures and recordings into his personal cloud so he has access to them whenever he feels like replaying them. Moments like those with Ryder full of fun and stupidity, hotheaded situations and rave-y long nights or just chilling in their personal spaces listening to good old Depeche Mode on vinyl. And Moments with Arki sharing sweet togetherness and a love he never felt before. Pictures of the man he loves when he looks cute in private, hair all rebellious curly, sweet smile on his lips that seemed to grow with time passing on since they met, red eyes always looking desirably back at him. Moments with Hizumi spending time at the temple, having onigiri and talking about everything that comes to their minds. But also moments of Ryder and Thyjs together V secretly did especially when the two looked super cute together. And all other moments with his other beloved friends in Night City he treasured as well.

Todays rip: 06/03/2024
Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and the days of high quality rips?
Season 7 Featured on: Rips of Christmas Present
Ripped by berg8793
youtube
Requested by itsyeeted! (Discord)
Funny thing - I was supposed to have posted this far closer to new years, but then somehow convinced myself that I'd...already posted it? Just marked it as done in the spreadsheet and everything. Bizarre. Well, its never too late to celebrate the new year, is it? Especially not with a rip as sincere, wholesome, downright pleasant as Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and the days of high quality rips? - This is the kind of rip to remain on the laid-back playlist all year long.
I'm sure a lot of people were a bit puzzled to see a game like Tetris on CDi even *get* rips, let alone any form of non-ironic memes. I mean, its the Philips CDi, it's the meme console with Hotel Mario and the bad Zelda games! But this is another case of what I brought up back in Viva La Robocop, another case of one of SiIva's most fascinating phenomena: when otherwise wholly obscure games are kept in discussion through the surprising quality of their music. With only some exceptions (such as the games composed by the Follin brothers) that discussion seldom becomes widespread, usually staying contained to enthusiasts of VGM: such as the very people behind the SiIvaGunner channel itself! And while many of these soundtracks are kept relevant by chiptune artists, with examples like the aforementioned one, Never Gonna Give Up Mahjong and Beautiful! ~ Curveball of Sean Kingston - Tetris on CDi is, as the name of the console suggests, full-on CD quality, with a sound so stunning beautiful and atmospheric for a game series otherwise so content in reusing and remixing the typical Tetris theme. In the words of Jack Yarwood - "Before 'Tetris Effect,' There Was the Vaporwave Bliss of Tetris on the CD-i".
The wonderous atmosphere of this otherwise entirely obscure release of Tetris has kept its heart beating ever so faintly in the 32 years since its release, and Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and the days of high quality rips? feels just as much like a love letter to this game's vibes as it does a soothing celebration of the new year's beginning. Level 6's soothing tune is used as the backing instrumental to an original cover of the Scottish folk song Auld Lang Syne, one typically sung to inaugurate the beginning of the new year. And it's one that I, despite being from all the way over in Sweden, swear I must've heard in a film or show at some point - its lyrics and melody felt immediately comforting and familiar as soon as I started listening to the rip. Part of that comfort is of course the vocals, berg8793's vocal performance is positively soothing, but it may also be from how the vocal performance is implemented into the rip. It's given a layer of compression to it that matches the quality of early CD games, and indeed the quality of the CDi games' soundtracks themselves, a comfy faint noise and static stitching the two pieces of the rip together as a seamless whole. berg8793 has previously mostly been featured on here in rips that appeared as if they were borderline painful to make, such as Banjostruck and Kirby Joins the Circus!, so it was a delightful surprise to see him having made a rip like this. Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and the days of high quality rips? not only feels like a welcome break in energy from the guy's typical output, but also shows me that he's got a genuine talent for singing - one I hope he finds use of in rips to come!
There's little else to say - Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and the days of high quality rips?, much like Wham! Into Dreams, feels like a cover from the heart, a cover made with the intent of pure celebration, to band us faithful viewers together for the new year in the comments section. Amidst all the shitposts and insane-scale collaborations, it's...nice, to have rips like these to return to for the quieter moments in life.

A. Thank you for your kind words on this, it's always cool to see people be normal about music instead of insisting I listen to bad stuff.
B. I see that you were unaware of Vaporwave as a music genre so I'm gonna overshare for a moment because I'm autistic about this and I hope that's okay.
Basically as I understand it, and I won't be doing a fully history deep dive but; Vaporwave popped up around 12 years ago with THIS video:
youtube
It's arguably a remix, but it was made via a sample of Chris Deburgh's Lady in Red, you can actually hear the exact sample here at 2:40:
youtube
The song was essentially slowed down and given a sort of reverby-ethereal vibe to the whole thing. Something I overall enjoyed but found a bit too repetitive for me in the original Nobody Here video.
This sort of "Reverbed Ethereal Vibe" carries through a lot of Vaporwave music such as this:
youtube
This one lacks any lyrics at all focusing heavily on melody and I honestly think it's a lot better for it in my opinion because I'm less likely to recognize the repeating than I am with literally two words lol.
Of course, it would be wrong not to mention MACINTOSH PLUS, who basically popularized Vaporwave with FLORAL SHOPPE - 02 リサフランク420 - 現代のコンピュー which you've likely heard before even if you don't recognize the name:
youtube
And now is where it branches off into a ton of different micro sub-genres, you have a ton popping up but the one that caught my eye specifically was Future Funk. A sort of focus on the capitalistic boom of the 80's where new tech was all the rage, and brands meant everything. Except with a sort of fun and lively vibe rather than dystopian capitalistic hell. Future Funk also makes use of a lot of anime aesthetics and city pop / J-pop influences.
The big Future Funk influence of the era was SAINT PEPSI, Pepsi was sort of the artist that people looked to in order to say "sure I like Future Funk, at least the GOOD STUFF that isn't like all that cringe shit, I only listen to SAINT PEPSI because he makes GOOD music." Which is :| but the music slaps. Like if Vaporwave is too slow for you, or you're in the mood for something a little more upbeat, here ya go!
youtube
Right out the gate we can hear so much more energy here. This was sort of set as the norm for Future Funk, but for a lot of artists it strayed too far from it's Vaporwave roots and some took to making music somewhere in the middle, still upbeat and lively but with more of that classic ethereal feel to it.
youtube
To this day I will use this hour long beautiful mix of upbeat future funk classics whenever I'm cleaning the house or driving anywhere or doing anything that really requires me to just have energy.
youtube
This SLAPS and I know it by heart because I'm dumb and I've listened to it significantly too much. I think what really makes it for me is that it's not just a playlist video, it's a proper DJ mix seamlessly moving from one song to the next.
ANYWAYS, yea Vaporwave has a ton of sub genres and stuff to look into if anyone has any interest in it. I admittedly got hardcore into Future Funk but there's almost always something for everyone when it comes to Vaporwave.
You've got artists like Blank Banshee, Manapool, VAPERROR, MACINTOSH PLUS, SAINT PEPSI, ΛDRIΛNWΛVE, Vantage, Future Girlfriend 音楽 , 悲しい Android - Apartment , ミカヅキBIGWAVE
There's a ton, including indie artists like Strawberry Station (who's actually a really nice guy, we've spoken on occasion and it was nice to learn he's a chill dude.)

2023 Year End List - #2
Tumblr media
Ooh Rap I Ya - George Clanton
Main genres: Baggy, Chillwave
A decent sampling of: Trip Hop, Dream Pop, Synth Pop, Vaporwave, Breakbeat
Okay okay so yeah I'm very late to the whole George Clanton thing. Look you guyz, vaporwave and its adjacent scenes have never really been my cup of tea due to the general over-saturation of super amateur "vibes" artists with no songwriting chops. The gratuitous Japanese has also always reeked of pretentiousness to me. But there's almost always at least one diamond in the rough.
And I know that Clanton is really more regarded as a chillwave artist, and I know that there's a meaningful distinction between these genres, especially since the term 'chillwave' is at least a year or two older. But I guess in my own mind I just kinda put him in with the former, so he wasn't particularly high on my list of things to check out.
That is, until I saw those peculiar genre tags on his latest record and the general praise it got on my favourite insufferable hipster website rateyourmusic.com (sue me bitch). Baggy and chillwave together? Now THAT was something I had to hear.
And it just so happened to turn out that his stuff blew me away completely. Even upon my first listen, this LP had basically already skyrocketed to the number 2 spot on my year end list and managed to hold on for the rest of the year.
Every note off of Ooh Rap I Ya is drenched in a multicoloured neon slush that tastes like pure fifth gen console nostalgia (yes that's the only thing I can recall about the 90s tyvm). A portal to a dimension floating in a solution of sheer serotonin, with groovy baggy rhythms and gooey, acid-y synths. Layers upon layers of unabashed awesomeness condensed into thirty eight minutes that feel like hours of non-stop raving that still somehow ends all too soon.
There's been way more than enough homages in the 21st century paying tribute to 80s synth pop and its related genres. I'm glad that someone out there finally decided that the early 90s British baggy scene and its related "Madchester" club culture deserved a work of similar celebratory fondness. Not that I'm honestly too well-versed in it myself, though hearing this certainly makes me feel like taking that genre deep dive next year.
But like all good throwback revivalism, this record doesn't just rehash the era that it's paying tribute to. There's a lot of contemporary production techniques and ideas being applied here, and it's all filtered through a very post-internet 2.0 chillwave online aesthetics lens. And while sonically it feels incredibly optimistic, the lyrics have definitely been injected with some of the generational existentialism of its time.
Moreover, this basically just kicks ass more than 98% of anything else released this year. The songwriting is tight, the riffs are infectious to no end, the sound design is simply godlike, and Clanton's trippy pretty boy vocal styling blends seamlessly into this genre. It's just some good fucking timeless music that happens to be heavily influenced by a very time-and-place sound.
"Justify Your Life" has a very particular vibe, as though it was written from that headspace you get when it's 2:00 am and you should be tired, but instead your mind is hyper awake and you're up just kinda reflecting on everything over the last six months. The whole thing rides on the wave of a breezy looped guitar feedback sample, taking little plunges into deep plasmatic psychedelics during the chorus. Very chill and daydreamy, but also a little agitated and melancholy.
The torrential, churning feel-good chaos of "Punching Down" is almost enough to make me feel sick. So sugary and whimsical, you'd be totally forgiven if you missed George's lyrics dissing on the subject of the song, who might just probably be himself. The combination of rubbery arcade synths and a blown out drum machine pattern absolutely buries this song in a totally orgasmic collage. Someone shook the soda can and let it spray all over the damn place. Makes my brain go all fuzzy.
"I Been Young" is a quarter life crisis anthem that's musically somewhere halfway between INXS and Chapterhouse. Very boy band meets neo-psychedelia. The lyrics are poignant in a way I think all of us are destined to feel at some point. But there's also a kind of bittersweet, triumphant silver lining at play here, as in "yeah, life is pretty fucked, but look how far you've come!". Clanton does the great big beautiful chorus thing in a way that I've heard very few artists really manage to pull off so cool and effortlessly. Those colossal piano chords are purely divine. No other song this year comes quite so close to the sentimental, end-credits energy that this song manages to emanate from its very core. Insanely potent, and plainly one of the greatest songs of the decade so far.
"You Hold The Key And I Found It" has me swimming downwards in slow motion. This is for the point of the night at the rave for when you're beyond blasted, and you're kind of just absorbing your surroundings, with every second being its own little eternity. More vaporwave than anything else off the record, but this is a brilliant example of the genre's potential when the songs have the right amount of pulse to them.
"Ooh Rap I Ya" glows like little flourescent fishies swimming in an aquarium. Little bit of a new jack swing meets trip hop vibe on the beat here which makes it extra comfy and danceable. Those "ooh rap I ya"s during the bridge that give the album its title are just so sexy and snappy; I believe I've caught myself singing it at random at least a dozen times in the last month alone.
The sluggish closer "For You, I Will" is insane. This. Song. Is. Massive. I can't get over how utterly consuming it sounds, like impenetrable walls being erected towards the sky that obscure the nature of reality. This one simply must be heard on headphones to get the full experience. George Clanton employed the help of Hatchie 💖 to do the backing vocals on this, which I personally thought was a really cute addition seeing as how her 2022 record Giving The World Away was basically the only other prominent LP of the last few years (or decades, more likely) to pay a lot of homage to the 90s baggy sound.
For as consistently brilliant as the album sounds to my ears, I do admit I have one gripe with this record that I just couldn't look past to give it a 10.
The gripe is that "F.U.M.L." to me is just a weaker, simpler take on "I Been Young". I guess the whole ultra-teenage upbeat pop punk "let's chant gleefully about being edgy and depressed" has never really been my thing either (Looking at you Wheatus, grrrrr), no matter how many layers of nostalgia or even irony you try to bury it under. Maybe an uncharitable take, it's still a pretty decent song and production-wise it's excellent, but I have basically no fondness for it when compared to anything else on the LP.
But anyhow, shut the fuck up already Bradley cuz this record is goddamn amazing. Ooh Rap I Ya has very quickly become one of my favourites of the decade - heavily grounded in the psychedelic baggy sounds it derives from, while managing to be so incredibly forward thinking in its maximalist production and songwriting. George Clanton just landed himself at the top of my list of artists to be on the look out for new releases in the next few coming years.
9/10

Today's Listens: Episode 003
August 7th, 2023
I almost considered not doing this day in full or just resorting it to a new mini-version of this series on the side, but that was because this day was quite busy and overbearing. I had to take care of some errands and deal with a good bit of a cramp, but by the end of the day, I felt much better and wanted to write more and more about each album I listened to today. So thank the unavoidable passage of time for this one. Let's get started.
Tumblr media
Valve Studio Orchestra – Fight Songs: The Music of Team Fortress 2 (2017)
Tumblr media
Yes, I kicked off this day after a very busy morning by treating myself head on to a soundtrack. Better yet, the soundtrack to one of my favourite video games of all time, Team Fortress 2. Seems a bit goofy for me to do, but even as I haven't played this game for a very long time (nor have I been able to thanks to my shitty laptops), I thought it'd be worth revisiting at least one of its greatest aspects. Obviously, this is a very good soundtrack. So many cuts on here are among some of the most iconic in video game history, especially to any fan of the game itself. I also just want to say that I love the album cover too and everyone's unique but stoic looks to the camera. I don't see why you wouldn't like something like this, most of the time, so I'd definitely go for it.
7.2 / 10
Highlights: Medic!, Intruder Alert, The Calm, Faster Than a Speeding Bullet, Drunken Pipe Bomb, Right Behind You, Team Fortress 2
Cut Copy – Bright Like Neon Love (2004)
Tumblr media
After that, I wanted to tackle this debut album from what I thought were a french house group at first. I thought they were that because I knew about this album from the one-two punch of That Was Just a Dream and Zap Zap that one of my favourite artists christtt had featured on one of his most recent mixes, plus the fact that he sampled both of them too. It was great to hear those two in context, but when it turned out that they were more focused on pretty scant electropop singing, I was not as easily invested. I still got some very good tracks out of it by the end, but maybe I had wrongly anticipated what they were capable of as a band. Still, very good album all the same.
7.4 / 10
Highlights: Time Stands Still, Going Nowhere, That Was Just a Dream, Zap Zap, Autobahn Music Box
P A T H S パス – ビジョンログ: S T A I R W A Y (2017)
Tumblr media
I had always adored what PATHS was composing in 2017. I discovered him through this short-lived ビジョンログ (Vision Log) series of super long tracks / mini-albums of constantly flowing, seamlessly & originally composed vaporwave material. However, when I was revisiting this second instalment STAIRWAY, I was going through a bit of a stomach cramp, so I was unfortunately far from the ripe mood to revisit this very underrated and obscure piece of music. Which is a shame because, as a result, this shrunk on me very hard. I reckon I'll come back to loving it at a better time and a better mood, but as for right now, it just wasn't the right time to vibe to it as much as I wanted to "force" myself to.
6.0 / 10
Highlights: N/A
Tim Buckley – Starsailor (1970)
Tumblr media
Now, you'll know this particular man for being the father of one of the most legendary yet sorrowfully short-lived prodigies in music history: Jeff Buckley. But that's not to undermine Tim at all, because not only does he also have a uniquely powerful voice, but he also has his own catalogue of critically acclaimed music. Albeit, in the case of Starsailor here, it was much stranger. This album is a freak; when I heard it for the very first time years ago, I was just in complete awe of what I was hearing. But as I revisit this one, what pulls me away from it was just that these individual songs don't hold up as… songs. It's a respectable listen, but one that I'm no longer anticipating to revisit myself, nor am I dying to recommend it.
6.1 / 10
Highlights: Come Here Woman, Moulin Rouge, Song to the Siren
魚魚 & Future░Λquariums░LTD – fishスプリット (2023)
Tumblr media
Now, this here is a random, newly released split record from the deep, fishy corners of the vaporwave community. This came about to me as a recommendation from an obscure vaporwave review Twitter blog and I'm glad I stumbled across it and took it upon myself to bookmark it then, because this was great first listen! 魚魚's side is especially dense, enrapturing and gorgeous, but Future Aquariums Ltd. deserves some credit as well, as their music seems to be more originally composed by comparison, even if it's overall thinner in sound. This was a great slushwave (wait, sorry, "fishvapour") offering from the two and I look forward to exploring more of their catalogues. Try it out if you're curious!
7.8 / 10
L. Media – new love rhapsody (for your entertainment, no. II) (2023)
Tumblr media
Finally, this one is a lot, but it's the sequel to L. Media's for your entertainment from back in 2021. This new one released on New Year's Day is a very heavy sound collage / broken transmission album and it overloads the senses constantly; it's even more complex and all over the place than that first album already was to begin with. I can't say it's bad at all, this was a very good listen all around, but it's just much more complicated to even comprehend, because it switches between samples constantly and leaves me having to go back a certain track or two to properly even rate this thing. Try this one out of curiosity though, because there are some great sample flips scattered all over this record! You just have to look more closely for them.
7.2 / 10
Highlights: prayer I-IV, BELL, prayer V / 90210, #wearetheworld, RAYTHEON
Tumblr media
There you go! Another day's worth of listens, reviews and ratings in the bag, despite all the hardships to get there. I may have rushed a few details here and there to get this out, some of these are complete rewrites, some of them are messy edits, but all the same, I hope you enjoy reading these.

hi. it's pride month. happy pride month. for pride month i have decided to share sketches that i have been doing for the past, quite a while of the 2 main guys from the gay schizo comic i am writing. i'll share like, one or two things a day until i either a. run out of sketches or b. run out of days. i've got so much of this shit though i think i'll run out of days way sooner.
right. okay. the fruits. this is isak and vincent. isak is the titular schizo, but that happens over the course of a while. anyway, isak has the longer dark hair and vincent has the shorter hair with the streak running through it. he dyed his hair like that to match with his sister (not pictured) his sister wanted them to match she thought it'd be cute (it is). uhmm they're in university and isak is a few years older than him but they're in the same graduating year. vincent's like idk 20 or smthn. they're both in their early 20s. isak is studying to become a botanist and vincent is studying to go into film. isak fucking LOVES plants it's his thang. his primary interest is plant genetics so he likes to crossbreed plants or graft plants together just for fun. just to see what would happen. the two of them also work on vincent's school movie together. "work on together" might be an overstatment though isak is just the grip he doesn't even take any film classes lol. vincent is the editor and director, basically he does the actual work of making the film Exist. anyway what was i talking about oh right these two uhm they are BRI'ISH isak is english vincent is scottish. isak is also german on his dad's side he can speak it fluently but he was raised in england he's got a nottingham accent he's FUCKING ENGLISH. vincent speaks with a glaswegian accent if you were curious. anyway uhm let's see isak is VERY farsighted he cannot see shit without his glasses unless it's like across the room or smthn he's very much blind. both of them make pictures vincent draws very cartoony sorta comic style isak can draw as well but he's better at painting his stuff looks very delicate and scratchy and it's usually painted/drawn from life. vincent's really into dragons he has a bunch of dragon ocs that he draws. uhm vincent owns a mega drive his favorite games are truxton, arrow flash, and ristar. isak tends to play it more often though his favorite game is mean bean machine he fucking LOVES puyo. isak will ask to come over just to play mean bean machine. vincent's cool with it he just gets editing work done in silence while isak plays on his mega drive parallel play moment. isak knows how to cook and he is quite good at it. domestic god. uhmm what else what else -tapping my head- neither of them really listen to music but if they did vincent would listen to downtempo, idm sort of stuff. if vaporwave existed at the time the story takes place he would have been all over that shit. isak would listen to noise rock. there's a lie in here i'm sorry i lied to you isak did listen to music when he was in highschool he listened to grunge and alt rock. he's probably heard ok computer too. at least once he's listened to it at least once. he thought it was pretty good. uhm isak is a smoker vincent is not he may smoke from time to time but not like isak. not like him. uhm isak has a lab partner in chemistry her name is kimmy (also not pictured) they are best friends <3. that's all the random facts i can think of. they are gay and in love in very normal ways but also in decidedly un-normal ways because i gotta make em weird with each other it's my god given right. you'll see what i mean as the days progress. yea that's it from me right now ask me questions if you want or don't i don't care okay bye see you tomorrow.
