Yeah, GO SPORTS! Picture it, you’ve had a full day at work and you have to get your kids ready for their sporting event or practice. You totally forgot that it’s your turn to bring snacks for the team. Now anxiety sets in and you rush around even more because now you have to stop at the store on the way. That’s okay. No worries, we got you covered. Some tips to help you make snack time easier: • Make sure there is a team list noting specific food allergies. • Take help from the store as much as possible. • Keep it simple. It’s a snack, not a 7-course meal. • Don’t break the bank. • Utilize that Costco membership and buy healthy, whole food in bulk. Some healthy gluten-free snack ideas: • Instead of sports drinks, bring water or organic coconut water for natural electrolytes. Sports drinks are basically sugar water, aren’t healthy and have food dyes in them. • Protein and veggies are ideal for recovery, such as chicken and veggie skewers with gluten-free crackers, or sliced apple or banana with nut butter or sunflower seed butter • A variety of cut up fruit, fruit trays or a bag of Cuties (clementines) and apples • A veggie tray with a couple of dips such as hummus or non-dairy French onion or ranch (Kitehill is yummy) • If you have time, homemade muffins work too. Sunflower and pumpkin seeds/butters are a great alternative to nuts/nut butters. If buying packaged gluten-free options, please make sure to read the ingredients list. The wife made one of my favorite quick meals last night a chicken, avacado and mango salad. She cooks the chicken in advance puts it in the fridge and all you have to do at dinner time is plate some greens (spinich or a spring mix) slice the mango and avacado and mix a simple vinegar and oil dressing.
