scaramouche x g!n reader

The scent of buttered popcorn and the sugar of cotton candy wafted up your nose as you set foot onto the football field. Lumine and Hu Tao were arm in arm ahead of you, running ahead off to eat instead of watch the game.

You, on the other hand, followed behind Aether to the seats. You were about to join him, since Heizou had abandoned you to go sit near Kazuha, but once you caught sight of Xiao you were left by yourself as Aether ran off. He waved you over, offering you to be the third wheel, but you shook your head and awkwardly walked away. You weren’t a big fan of college football anyway, you were only there for Venti and so you and your friends could hang out afterward.

You let yourself walk past the stands, eyeing the snacks available until settling on a bag of popcorn, sliding into line as you rummaged around for your card.

“Hey, what can I get you?” a green-haired girl spoke, voice lacking any care as she asked.

“Just a small popcorn,” you say, watching as she rings you up and gestures for you to move aside to wait for it.

You lean against the counter, about to pull out your phone when the same girl let out a loud laugh.

“Scaramouche! I didn’t expect you to be here!” she giggles, leaning forward on the counter.

You look beside you to see Scaramouche, who was apparently behind you in line, looking disinterested as he tried to avert eye contact with her.

“Can I get a popcorn?” he sighs, waving around his card.

“If I can get your number,” she hums, stifling a giggle. You want to look away but it’s too intriguing to watch. It makes you feel funny.

“Popcorn,” Scaramouche repeats, raising a brow at her, completely disregarding her advances.

“I’m Haypasia, by the way,” she says, taking his card and slowly ringing him up, “I sit near you in English.”

“No offense, but I do not care,” Scaramouche mutters, snatching his card from her and making his way towards you. You try to turn around but he’s already caught sight of you.

“Hey,” he greets, leaning against the counter next to you, “Don’t tell me you like football.”

“No,” you answer, giving up on trying to hide from him, “Came with my friends but they all ran off with their partners,” you sigh, grabbing the popcorn you ordered, wincing at the glare Haypasia sent your way, “Do you know her?”

“Who?” he repeats, grabbing his own bag, though slightly tugging on it since the green-haired girl wouldn’t let go, “Oh, not at all.” he answers, following beside you as you leave the food stand.

“Does that happen often?” you question, bringing a mouthful of popcorn to your lips.

“Yeah, pretty annoying being this desired,” he smirks, “You can’t relate, can you?”

“Shut up,” you counter, “Where are you sitting?”

He points to the lower stands, “Childe got me good seats when I would rather hide in the back.”

“Can I sit with you?” you ask, you’d rather sit with someone you knew then alone in the stands, surrounded by people in pairs.

“I thought that was assumed,” he scoffs, grabbing you by the back of your top and holding onto you as he directs you through the crowd so he doesn’t lose track of you, “Otherwise I would’ve pretended I didn’t see you.”

He led you to the decent seats, more or less. As decent as any sticky seat would be at a college football game.

Scaramouche settled into the seat beside you, letting you in first before plopping down himself. You busied yourself with your popcorn as Scara scoured the field for the only head of ginger hair, which was currently doing cartwheels on one end of the field.

During the first half of the game you really tried to pay attention, but the commercials on the big screen seemed more interesting and playing 8 ball on your phone with Scaramouche was much more enjoyable.

During half time, you look over to see a group of boys smacking each other and pointing at the scoreboard. There had previously been an ad for Ei’s new fashion line and interviews with some of the players on the team, but now it was a shot of the stands.

A bright pink heart border appeared on the screen.

A kiss cam, you hadn’t expected one to show up during a college football game. But it was cute.

It landed on a middle aged couple, the male kissing the woman on the cheek before getting playfully slapped on the arm, her face looking happy. The camera moved to a pair of young girls, who gave each other a kiss on the cheek while giggling hysterically.

“That’s cute,” you smile, staring up at the screen.

Scaramouche shrugs beside you, “Unless you’re next to someone you don’t want to kiss.”

The camera flicked to a pair of teenagers, blushing a bright bloom of red before shyly pecking each other on the lips. A pair of men who kissed happily. A couple where the woman flashed her ring to the screen before grabbing her wife’s face and pulling her into a kiss. And then, Scaramouche and you.

“This can’t be happening,” you mutter, mouth open and hand halfway to your mouth that was full of popcorn.

Scaramouche looks up from his phone and at the screen, pale cheeks dusted pink at the implication.

You immediately start shaking his head, not wanting to make him even uncomfortable after his confession.

“Oh, for fucks sake.”

Much to your surprise, he lets out a quiet string of curses before you feel a hand gently touch you cheek and guide your face towards his. Scara’s lips pressed against yours, tasting like salt and butter, rough and awkward. You couldn’t tell who pulled back, but when you both eventually did the kiss cam had already found its next victim.

The crowd near you let out wolf whistles and cat calls. Scaramouche went back to his phone, thumbing through it once again and falling back into his usual self as if they hadn’t just kissed in front of thousands of people. As though this was something normal for the two of you.

Another three to four couples appeared on the screen until it was focused back onto the game. It was rather anticlimactic, but your hands were sweaty and your cheeks felt heated. You glance to your side to see Scaramouche texting someone, disregarding what occured moments before.

You weren’t quite sure what happened, but your lips still tasted like salted butter.

“ahhh, why doesn’t she like me back? i’ve been so nice to her, i thought she’d fall for me already.” heizou groaned as he threw his arms up into the air, his head on your lap.

you stopped running your fingers through his burgundy hair, that familiar clench in your chest as you swallowed his words. you always knew he was.. a player, of sorts. with his flirtatious personality it wasn’t a surprise that he has had many relationships, or in your case, situationships. but this time it was different. some girl at his job had caught his eye, and it wasn’t just a fling or flirt for the moment. he admitted to you that he felt something different for her, something he hadn’t felt before.

something he’d never feel for you.

it didn’t matter how many times you tried to ignore that fact that he talked to so many girls in the same way he talked to you, every time he brought it up to you it still hurt. that sick feeling wallowing up inside of you.

it made you feel ashamed more often than not. a day after he’d be holding you in your bed, he’d be going on about that mystery girl like nothing between you two happened.

“i don’t know heizou.. she’s just missing out on a good thing.” you half joked, patting his head as he pushed himself up to face you. his warm hands reached out, cupping your cheeks as he held your face in his hands.

“i guess i should tell you (y/n), if she accepts me i won’t be going to sumeru with you anymore. i know we’ve planned it since last year but, i don’t want to be where she isn’t.”

you couldn’t hide your expression as your face fell. a frown on your face as you muttered a soft “oh.” you could feel his annoyance in his glare as he scrambled to his feet, making up some excuse that he had to go back to work despite it being his day off. that was the last time you saw him under that cherry blossom tree.

every time you messaged him to meet up or have lunch together your messages would be left on read, to delivered, to not being sent at all. when you’d see him at work or in public, he wouldn’t spare you a glance, his fingers laced with the girl from his work. at least you knew a face to a name now.

that numbness ate you up inside. it was just supposed to be a no strings attached relationship, friends helping each other out when the sheets got too cold.

but oh how his gentle touches felt like something more, his smile that you felt was for you and you alone.

it wasn’t fair. you’ve known him for far longer than she had. so what did she have that you didn’t?

so here you were, finding yourself in the wrecked chaos of your room, your phone hugging your ear as it rung. you couldn’t hide your sniffles as you heard him pick up the phone.

“(y/n)? are you crying?”

“haitham!” you sobbed, your knees coming to your chest. you knew you shouldn’t be bothering him with something like your feelings. but at the same time you felt as if you had no one on your side. heizou was one of your only friends, and alhaitham was your closest friend before you came to inazuma.

“what happened?” you could hear his stern voice on the other end of the line, anxiety bubbling up inside of you.

“it’s just, i can’t handle it. i feel so alone, i know it’s my fault, before you start. but it felt different! heizou was—“

“archons, (y/n), you’re still on about this? that indecent relationship you had with that man? you knew through and through what would happen if you fell for him, but you still allowed him into your home. id appreciate it if you didn’t call me to waste my time. have a good night, (y/n.)

the phone beeped with alhaitham hanging up, your phone clattered onto the floor at the sound. arms wrapping around your knees, you buried your face into them. now you were alone, not even alhaitham cared to hear about your feelings. and that’s what you bet on the day you agreed to enter that relationship with heizou.

"Can you stop yelling in my ears!" Wanderer yells, catching your attention from the other side of the screen. He saw you flinch before slowly turning to look at him.

He smirks in triumphant, striking his idle pose.

You eye his figure carefully. Instead of looking towards the mountains, he faces you grinning.

You lean over hesitantly poking the screen.

"Wait Scara what did you say?" You poke his cheek making him angrier.

You recoil in surprise, creeping towards your bed. His gaze follows you as you move this time. As his gaze follows you, you tilt to the left and right. "The fuck?!" He laughs.

"My exact words, Oh Mighty [player name]!" He crosses his arms and rolls his eyes. You crawl at a snail's pace towards the computer. As you approach him, he smugly looks down at you.

"Down on the ground where you belong, insect?" You roll your eyes, as he sneers.

"How are you talking to me right now?"

"Everyone in Teyvat has always heard you." He makes eye contact continuing further.

"We've always heard you talk about your crush and what you want to do with them." He makes a disgusted look as he recalls hearing his name uttered again by you.

You frown as you recall Shikonin Heizou and the other characters you berated for not returning home. You can't help but worry if they'd be repulsed or terrified of you if you spoke to them.

"We hear everything Y/N." You quiver, hovering the mouse to over x button. Scaramouche's eyes widen seeing the exit symbol highlighted. Before the game ended, you heard his voice.

Itto, Ei, Ayato, and Wanderer are the current banners showing on the screen banner. Instead of their usual expressions, they were disgusted. You saw their eyes meet yours as you exited the pre-load up screen page. Your eyes were met with anger and disappointed sentiments.

You hurriedly exited the room after clicking off your computer. You didn't know how Scaramouche spoke to you, but you didn't want to see it again.

Shaking it off you began to get ready for bed.

After weeks of not playing Genshin, you returned to wish for Ayato Kamisato, whose banner was expiring. You log in and quickly launch the game avoiding their stares. When you click on the door, instead of the symbols, a message appears.

"Have you finally chosen to return?" You ignore the message while waiting for the game to load, assuming it's Scaramouche speaking.

After 5 minutes the message didn't disappear. You move your mouse clicking along the screen.

"Why so eager to return to Teyvat, you abandoned it after all~"

This was not Scaramouche talking at all. You try to exit the game like last time only for a lock to appear over it.

You exclaim in anger trying to click pass the text.

"Trying to flee so quickly? No, I don't believe so." To your chagrin, the individual, whoever it is, wants you to keep playing genshin.

"What's the deal with these new game events?" You take out your phone to look for the error message, but there is none. You gather your belongings and prepare to leave the room.

"Nope! You can keep this game Satan, i dont want it anymore!" You gather your keys and other valuables and prepare to leave the room.

"[player name]!" you exclaim as you go out of the room. When you turn around, you see Wanderer on the screen.

"Scaramouche?" You return your gaze, peering over your shoulder.

"Where are you going?" He looks at the items you had in your arms.

"I'm just going to leave for a minute." When the wish banner music plays as you try to exit the room.

"How did you do that?" You put the stuff down approaching him.

"Didn't you want to wish for Ayato?" His beautiful words drew you back into the room, closer to the computer. You return to your seat and hover over the ten pull to make a wish for him.

Scaramouche smiles darkly, as the screen goes black. The wish banner music glitches in the background.

"Scaramouche did what?"

"He spoke to me." Seeing the unamused look on your friend's face you continued.

"Then he started claiming that Heizou hated me and that Kazuha would find me disgusting." You exasperatedly wave your hands to prove your point.

"If Scaramouche really spoke to you, wouldn't you be pleased, after all "He is your husband right?"

You slowly nod calming down. "Yes, but the situation is so weird." You take a seat next to them laying back against the couch.

"How about this?" They stand gathering their belongings.

"We go back over to your house and check your genshin account. If Scaramouche really is self aware we'll send a video to mihoyo asking them to check it out."

When you returned to the house, you heard nothing except a ringing in your ears. You come to a halt in front of your computer that turned off.

"I expected him to be peeking around a corner." Your friend teased as they checked the rooms thoroughly.

When you start the game, you immediately notice the picture of the first Archon quest has been replaced with Scaramouche's photo from his promotional Archon quest. His eerie smile draws your attention to a different corner of the room.

As the Mondstadt music plays, you examine the load up screen for more information. Once you were sure there were no errors, you entered Teyvat.

Facing the TV, you were met with a albino playing a leaf like a flute.

"I swear Wanderer was here the last time I logged out." You inspect your party setup only to discover that he is completely missing.

"What's wrong Y/N?"

You show your friend the missing person from your party.

"That's strange. Let me check your character archive." They take over pulling up the character archive and hovering over Wanderer.

"You already have him. I'm curious why he's not on your list of playable characters." Wanderer was standing where Kazuha was as they exited the archive to return to the main screen.

Your friend shrugs, handing you back the remote. "Maybe it was just a glitch."

Looking at him in disbelief, you turn back to stop your friend.

"Wait no stay!" You rush over trying to stop them from leaving. While your back was turned you miss the dark look Wanderer sent your friend.

"Look Y/N, I don't know what you saw, but clearly you playing genshin for 24 hours on the weekends is starting to fuck with your mind." They eye the bags under your eyes from gaming.

"Go take a nap alright? Call me later." They let go of you returning to their car. As they drive away, you clutch the door tightly.

"I'm not seeing things!" You yell in retaliation to no one. Wanderer's voice line causes you to turn around. Instead of his normal idle line he wore a smug look crossing his arms staring into the camera.

"Are you done with your whining yet [player name]?"

Genshin Characters as Sky COTL players Notes: Not an ‘x-reader’ for once? That’s new. X-readers will be back in a few business days and I will be writing for Twisted Wonderland and Tears of Themis. I have been playing a lot of Sky COTL lately after I found my veteran acc. Login so I thought why not make a headcanon post. So far we have few one shots and 3 series in the ‘currently’ writing. I should probably plan things and make notes so I won’t lose anymore ideas and drafts oof.  [Grand masterlist]

The Musicians - These players probably have a huge collection of instruments ranging from the local spirits to seasonal spirits. They might also probably own a musical instrument that is no longer available because of an ultimate gift. It’s not unusual to see them playing at places like above the pipes at the graveyard or at the second floor of the vault because the music key they needed are located there. They also probably strayed for days in the Harmony  hall when the season of performance got released.  ---Kazuha (this guy is prolly always straying either in Prairie or the forest), Xinyan, Venti

The explorers - These players know where the winged lights were located in each realm starting from the easiest to get to the hardest ones. Need help in locating spirits? They can go with you and lead you. These guys have probably come across one or two bugs while exploring and like oob exploring too and makes easy routes for others to use. Sometimes they travel alone and sometimes in groups, they might also pair up with oobers from time to time. If you have time to listen they have the compiled theorized lore for them to tell you too. ---Mika, Aloy, Lumine and Aether, Kazuha, Kirara, Tighnari, Zhongli, Beidou

The Loners / Solo Flyers  - Either they leave the game once one of their in-game friends go online or they immediately hop to another map when they hear the online notification. These players take their sweet time exploring alone and they might also go ninja mode from time to time just to avoid other players. Inventories either have several instant recharge spells or they carry an item that helps them charge. Given that they fly solo, they know just how to converse their flight power and know where every campfire and lamps are located. These players might also help you if you need help but after that they will just disappear and you might never see them again. Ps, they never get to finish those quests like holding a friend’s hand or following a friend. ---Diluc, Rosaria, Wanderer, Shenhe, Xiao 

The Ikemen/Ikejou -They get followed by moths. They get followed by chibis. They either get flirted on or they flirt. Pretty chill players from time to time and most of them are flexing their seasonal or cosmetics that are not obtainable anymore. If their followers are unavoidable, they’ll light up, bow and then maybe an emote or two, and then leave. Might be tiktokers.  ---Kaeya, Ayato, Lyney, Heizou, Childe, Yun Jin, Dehya

The uncoordinated players  -Hits wind barrier. Gets trapped inside the Prairie cloud tunnel. Gets trapped like clothing inside a washing machine in Wind Path cloud tunnels. Runs out of flight power mid-air. Randomly losses flight control and goes crazy mid-air. Gets kidnapped by mantas at Prairie villages. Gets hit by a krill. Gets hit by a crab. Gets hit by players randomly passing by. Land on dark water after losing flight power. Land under acid rain after losing flight power. Land on, wait, did you just land in the middle of the graveyard without flight power?  ---Benneth, Razor, Collei, and surprisingly, Chongyun (someone tell him that krills can’t be exorcised) 

The helpful ones - Normally holding the hand of a moth or two that they randomly adopted at the lobbies. Deep calls to recharge players that they come across or those we find on random places with high density of dark waters and enemies. Initiates plant burning and makes sure crabs won’t touch their adopted moths. They carry lighting props as well if deep calls are not enough or if there’s a lot of people in the group. They usually travel in groups and most of the time if they are not winged light running or collecting spirits, they are finishing quests from past seasons. It’s rare to see them alone and their friend list is so long.  ---Thoma, Amber, Jean, Candace, Aether, Lumine, Noelle 

The krill chasers - They are beauty. They are grace. They love the krill’s warning light on their face. If they are not saving other random players from krill attacks by making them the krill targets and then they are just randomly flying around messing around with krills. They have the map of the wasteland memorized at the back of their hand and they are the players to stay on the battlefield once the gates open. They also collect crabs from time to time but nothing tops the thrill of dodging krills. If the wasteland krills are unavailable or if there are innocent players around that might become collateral damage, they can always go play fetch with the krill at the forgotten ark.  ---Hu Tao, Childe

Scaramouche/Kunikuzushi - one of the most notable forwards — student players, in general — of this time. as the star player, he is the captain of their soccer team, with his mother as the coach. took up business despite having a hidden desire for the arts because he’s secretly a people pleaser.

Shikanoin Heizou - kazuha’s said friend from the soccer team of their rival school. he plays as a defender and loves seeing the expression on the striker’s face as he blocks them. as a criminology major and an aspiring detective, he craves for information (including gossips, yes) and finds fun in putting pieces of them together.

Aether - initially joined the soccer team because a senior asked him so that they could fill the slots and he found it hard to refuse, but actually turned out to be a valuable player. his flexibility and adaptability shine as a midfielder. took up psychology because he thought it would be fun.

so genshin related question, but do you have any tips on how to read and learn the characters compatibility and skills just by looking at their desc. I feel utterly lost whenever I try to make sense of games where I got to learn a characters skills and utilize that properly when matching them up or giving them artifacts etc…

idk what desc means (description?) but yeah really all you need to read is their second and third talents to get the gist of the character. sometimes some stuff is hidden in cons you may have, but often nothing game-changing. most times a characters talents will tell you basic stuff that you should look for first: what they scale off of and what their kit is primed for (healing, dmg, support, etc). if it's not clearly stated, they probably scale off atk

Usually, a DPS "build" is their stat-of-choice sands, elemental goblet, and crit circlet. An example of this: Hu Tao is a DPS who scales off HP. This will often be found in the second talent/skill slot. So Hu Tao has her ATK increased based off her HP (stat of choice). It also states her atks when you activate her skill deals pyro dmg and a charged atk applies "blood blossom" which is a fancy way to describe off-field dmg she can inflict on enemies. The thing is with genshin, DPS chars are often the easiest to understand their kits right off the bat. Even though it has flowery language, most DPS kits are quite straight forward in that their E or Q hits big dmg and that's all you really gotta build towards. Some DPS talents will explain "stacking" that some chars have, such as Heizou or Raiden, which is sometimes harder to parse out in all the word fluff, so if you feel you're not quite understanding what the talents mean, watch a guide video and *see* it in action. That often helps me if something is just confusing, which especially for supports it is...

Now the actual bread and butter confusion I think comes from Hoyo making shit way more flowerly than it needs to be, especially for support characters. I think reading Furina's talents for the first time gave me an aneurysm I won't lie

Within this absolute mess of an explanation, you should always find where stuff is highlighted in color, that will often help you find the "important" sentences in the sea of words. Furina deals hydro dmg based off her HP. When she's on your team and you use her skill, your team members lose HP in order to deal more DMG.

Fanfare stacks are just another fancy stacking mechanic that you as the player have to meet the "reqs" for in order to get bigger dmg, that's all stacks mean at the end of the day. You don't need to really try to understand every single thing here, but that you found her stat-of-choice, how to trigger her stacks (fanfare stacks when chars heal or lose HP), and what it does (increase the DMG dealt by party members). This all points to Furina being an HP scaling support or sub-DPS, as she isn't necessarily DPSing anything herself. All her dmg comes from her elemental skill, which does a lot of dmg, but a majority of her kit also comes from her dmg-boosting burst.

Overall, that's really how I "quick read" talents to understand their skill and burst quick. Otherwise, a great way to understand them is just to play them in the trial, take your time reading and seeing how the character work. Most times characters have either their E or their Q be their main source of dmg, so you can scan talents to figure out which that might be as you check them out. Ei is a burst DPS and her major damage stacks will come from her burst, whereas someone like Heizou gets all his stacks in his skill and his burst is a just some minor crowd control, for example. So not every character is minor skill damage and massive burst damage, and sometimes that can be helpful depending on the playstyles you prefer.

In terms of team comp, oof. I would say that knowledge comes from two places: check out meta theory crafters who in-depth can explain a char's best teams for X, Y, Z reasons or test them out in your own teams if you have the character waiting. Second, elemental reactions is a huge part of this game. If you dislike playing certain reactions, this will limit the roster of characters you need to worry about since a lot of characters in genshin aren't really universal supports, but geared to support a specific char/reaction. You may have heard of teams like National/Rational, which utilizes a core team of Bennett, Xingqiu, and Xiangling. These three are considered like universal good supports in the game no matter the reactions you're playing, for the most part, and they're always safe bets to pair with your DPS or on-fielder. Some characters like Gorou for Itto, Sara for Raiden, or Yun Jin for Yoimiya are niche and made for those 5 stars, so throwing them into random comps won't often benefit you much. Otherwise, a team really can work as long as you understand the elemental reactions you're trying to get from the team. For example, my favorite reactions are vape (pyro and hydro), overload (pyro and electro), and i guess taser (hydro and electro). So when I saw Gaming, I decided I wanted to try him in a vape comp, and grabbed units that would create those reactions I wanted to try (Mona, Xingqiu, flex slot). That's often a good way to start testing out team builds: slot characters into elemental reaction comps and go from there. By playing with them, you can feel if the rotation flows well or not or if you just dislike a playstyle. Many characters are flexible enough that as long as you're aiming for certain reactions as your starting point, you should be good testing. But if you're still not sure, again, check out theory and build guides! I watch so many even now because meta can always change and sometimes I want to change my builds or teams and get stuck too.

Artifacts really depends on the teams you wanna run a character in and there are many builds that can slot as more universal, most characters have best in slot artifact sets and for the last two ish years genshin really curates an artifact set to a newly released character, making it more obvious "what" you should farm. ofc, there's lots of good artifact sets that can work on characters you wouldn't expect depending on how people are using that character. I recently put some golden troupe pieces on my fischl to make her more geared for dendro teams, and it's been fun, but i wouldn't have necessarily thought to do that unless i checked out some updated fish builds online and learned she was a good support in dendro comps. but really, if you stick to *their* artifact set you're likely gonna be just fine.

But also Genshin is quite forgiving in many ways and you should always try to play teams that feel fun and comfortable to you. One of my favorite teams since Furina's release is Raiden, Furina, Jean, and Kazu. It's not super meta, it's not anything insane, but it works well because I understand Jean supports Furina's kit, Kazu is my crowd control, Furina does her sub-dps stuff, and Ei funnels energy into everyone else to make sure Furina can reach her max stacks, and since everyone has so much ER, it benefits Raiden whose own stacks come from making sure the rest of the party bursts often. I've played with many of those characters long enough to figure this team out for myself based on information I learned from the community (Jean being a great support for Furina) and my own learning from having played with Raiden and Kazu for longer. So again, a lot of the time teams can be slapped together and work just fine as long as you're goals are being met, whatever they are, from that team.

And it's always more fun to play teams with characters you enjoy playing even if it's not "meta". Also idk how long you've been playing genshin, but eventually a lot of this becomes very intuitive so don't stress too hard. there's a learning curve, and then suddenly you'll be reading talents and understanding new kits with ease and forming teams better bc you've had just had the characters longer and have used them longer. easy peasy.
